Happy Roald Dahl Day! It's also International Chocolate Day (not to be confused with World Chocolate Day) and Milton Hershey's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Parfumerie Générale Musc Maori.
Reminder: 9/16 will be Harvest Moon Friday: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain / cereal note. If you don't have one, you could think of another note associated with the fall harvest season — apple? hay?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Mug is £8 at DotMaison. (And also check out Rococo's limited edition Roald Dahl chocolate bars.)
Journey Woman
I couldn’t help myself and ordered some red lipsticks. Shiesedo new rouge rouge came out and I have to try, and I ordered a Dior red color
You smell great. I should break out my bottle of this too. I’ve not worn it in a while.
You smell good!
You smell lovely and will look beautiful.
Journey woman is lovely..sometimes it gets overlooked in my small perfume wardrobe
I adore journey woman, it’s one of my top 10, I don’t have a full bottle yet, and treasuring my small decant. Love the sound of you’re new lipsticks too, will have to look them up.
In AG’s Hadrien today, in the form of the vintage bath oil (it’s maybe at least 20 years old but still smells amazing). Instead of pouring it into a bath (too wasteful!), I smooth it on damp skin, right from the shower. Will spritz with the edp before I head out the door.
Enjoy this lovely day, my fellow ‘fumeheads!
Wow, 20 year old bath oil! I’m surprised it’s lasted so long.
Robin, I was too but reading the ingredient list, it’s mostly mineral oil (which some have a issue with – I am not one of those people!), vitamin E and fragrance. Not a lot that could go rancid.
AN issue….ugh….where is my coffee?!
Wouldn’t it be nice if autocorrect would fix that kind of thing instead of what it actually does? 😉
Interesting. Betting that a 20 year old bottle of the scent would not be so stellar.
Also, let me know if you’d like to try it….I have 1 ounce glass bottles and can easily decant some for you. I think it’s lovely.
Oh, you are so kind, thank you, but do not waste it on me…I do not even use bath oil.
You smell beautiful. And the good thing about mineral oil, unlike plant oil, is that does not have active polyphenols to react with the atmosphere and go bad. I had a bottle of a fragrant bath oil called Corina (sp?) that was made in the 60s I think. Smelled like a love child of Chanel 5 and 1000. I was able to use it just as it was starting to die, and it was made with mineral oil.
You smell like summer!
I was reading too fast. I got “In Hadrian’s day, bath oil you poured into the bath….” that would be old bath oil!
Gee, maybe I should start reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the grade 4’s who are on their way in to the library. I had planned Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. I’m wearing Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet which is pretty forgettable IMHO.
I still remember an aunt reading a chapter of Charlie to us every night, one summer many moons ago 🙂
I found Miss Dior blooming forgettable too
A teacher read both of those to my class around that age. I love being read to. Audiobooks just aren’t the same 😉
Feminite du bois for me today. Another chill morning, but I’m loving it.
It is perfect weather — chilly in the morning, sunny and warm in the afternoon. If only it would stay this way…
This is my ideal weather scenario, too.
Exactly. I went out for a long run after work and may do so again today.
And if it was warm in the evening and then nice and cool for sleeping, I’d be be in heaven ????
Twins!
We smell good!
FdB is so beautiful, I’m waiting for the first cool day to bring it out.
I am wearing J. Crew number 31. I’m ready for some autumn scents, but the weather isn’t cooperating. It’s supposed to be in the 90s today.
SOTD is Ormande Woman (the perfume), I applied the body lotion before-hand, so it is extra lovely.
Ooooh, double awesomeness there. Love that scent.
You smell wonderful. Looking forward to wearing OJ Woman again once the weather starts to cool off here.
Mexican Cocoa all week for the nut note.
Testing (thank you to my one and only perfume fairy 🙂 !!) DSH L’opera des Rouges et des Roses)
Sounds yummy! It looks like it is only available in home scents now. But, I wouldn’t mind adding a cocoa candle to the collection
Ugh! Yes, Pacifica has discontinued so many of my favorites (Avalon Juniper, Egyptian Bergamot Rose, Tunesian Jasmine, Bali Lime Papaya, Vanilla Vera Cruz, Thai Lemongrass, Madagascar Spice, California Star Jasmine) but I was lucky enough to grab the last bottle of Mexican Cocoa at my health food store 🙂 !!! the candle is lovely , by the way!
And Nerola Orange Blossom….that one was a lovely and affordable OB …..
Frapin 1697 here. I also succumbed to Passion Boisee, which in reality smells like turpentine, but convinces the brains of its victims that it smells like the most luscious, freshest orange (with peel)-infused liquor. I now wear it to bed every night.
I found Passion Boisee to be awful on me. I think that it was the wood note.
i found it to be god-awful the first time, it stank of chemicals to high heavens. Thought I would never try it again, but got very curious about all those basenotes reviews that said it smelled like fresh orange or tangerine – what?!! Gingerly applied it again couple of days later; it stank for 2 minutes, then I could not smell anything at all for 5 minutes, then it reemerged in all its orange glory… or at least my addicted brain says so now!
I would never recommend it to anybody though
You smell nice!!
Thank you 🙂
Goutal Passion. It’s still really hot here, and I love White Florals when it’s warm.
Passion is so beautiful. I wore it to bed last night after wearing Songes all day.
I forgot to put anything on this morning, so I am wearing Vaara from a sample at my office. It reminds me a lot of Jardin sur le Toit ith the apple/pear and florals, but with saffron instead of the green, vegetal musk. If I remember correctly the drydown is dull.
I am drinking a cup of Dong Ting Bi Luo Chun from Tea Spring.
Hopefully the tea will make up for the dry down 🙂
Peach and melon in oakmossy Cristalle EdP, which fits the unusually hot September days we’re having in the Netherlands.
The heat is incredible isn’t it?
Really…almost looking forward to 19 degrees and rain…!
So am I, the evenings are lovely though, and I hate the short days of winter, still I am much more productive at lower temps.
It is a choice between warm feet and being productive!
Really? I have way more energy and am more productive when it’s sunny & warm. Cold weather drains everything out of me.
I am with kpaint…cold weather makes me want to hibernate!
I always have warm feet. Honestly, I don’t do much when it’s hot. I’m just not geared towards higher temperatures and have no problem at all coping with cold weather.
Same here in Brussels. I’m not complaining, though. I’m always cold and it’s so rare to have days when that’s not the case.
(I know you’re not complaining either.)
Yep, life in a cold climate 😉
I hope my family is soaking up the sun there (they live in Holland)..since it will be very cold when we meet them in upstate new york this fall!
Lovely choice, the EDP is on my FB list, after sampling the whole cristalle family, (thank u again!) but I love them all, so hard to choose between them.
Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking and commando for the better part of a month due to a sinus infection or whatever the bleep it is but luckily didn’t feel sick the whole time but let’s just say that the smell wasn’t pleasant eek! So gross! Anyway, I went for acupuncture yesterday and so far so good, time will tell of course. I’m finally getting around to Assam of India (thank you to chocolatemarzipan 🙂 ) and it’s great!
Welcome back! Hope you’re feeling and smelling better!
Oh my! That has been a stubborn one. The acupuncture may help stabilize many systems.
Hope you are enjoying the Assam if India.
You smell lovely and I hope you feel better!
Welcome back! And report on Assam- it sounds lovely! 😀
Welcome back!!!! we missed you 🙂
Glad you are enjoying the Assam…it is so good in sweltering weather!
And, of course, more importantly, glad you are feeling better!!!
Ugh. What a bummer. I managed to make it through August for the first time in years without an antibiotics-resistant sinus infection. I’ve been following a low-histamine diet but I’m not ready to attribute it entirely to that – I think the weather played a role as well.
Good to hear you’re back on your feet.
Whew, that has been a bad one for you. I’m glad you are on the mend.
Hope the accupuncture helps and welcome back!
Hope the better health holds!
Thanks for the well wishes, everyone! 🙂
So glad u are feeling better, and back with us!
Glad to hear that you are feeling better!
Hope you’re completely better soon. I tried the Berdoues sampler recently thanks to chocolatemarzipan’s enthusiasm and liked Assam, but loved Arz el-Rab.
Welcome back, dearest Holly!
It’s gloriously sunny and hot outside and I’m wearing Amouage Fate. I cycled to work as well, so I didn’t subject any poor people on public transport to my overpowering sillage. At the office though, all bets are off.
Fate smells way better than most public transportation so I’d be pretty happy to be subjected to that
Was about to say the same thing- would have been a public service!
How could anyone complain about the gloriousness of Fate?
🙂
Opus II (Amouage). 🙂
I have the Opus series all hopelessly mixed up my head — but I’m sure you smell great!
There are so many, and the naming doesn’t help. I like II, but just tried V on skin and scrubbed it off a few minutes later. Tried VII the other day and thought it was very light for the description.
Will eventually make it through all of them, but have yet to score samples of IX and X.
If brands are going to number scents, they should not do more than 2 or 3! A sequence of 10, hey, I have other needs for those brain cells 😉
Bois des Iles making its first outing this fall for me. So, so beautiful.
You smell great, I love bois des iles. I am wearing its cousin Samsara edt.
SOTD Si Lolita Lempicka. I have a mini and forget that I have it. I think I’d add this to the underrated list. Sheer, peppery spice perfect for a cool morning and warmer afternoon.
I am loving how we are easing our way into fall..nice sunshine coming through the clouds..no a/c
I have a mini of Si (the LL minis are all so adorable!) and it’s really nice. It’s at home but I’ll have to remember to wear it this fall.
Still summer in Atlanta, no doubt about it! (And I’m lovin’ it!) 🙂
SOTD: Replica Beach Walk.
Stop bragging, Hotlanta!
But seriously, you smell terrific! Perfectly light and fresh and pretty!
Beach Walk is lovely…reminds me of Sand & Sable (vintage from the 90s, I think)
I looove Roald Dahl. I saved up and bought an anthology when I perhaps 8. I carried it around Foote almost a year.
Going with Ostara today. Wish I had a bottle of it.
For. When would I ever use Foote, phone?
Ha, that’s ridiculous.
Coumarin. Are you in US? Email me if you are. I can send you a rollerball of Ostara. It is eabrit at the geemail dott com.
Perfect timing- just thinking about you and Ostara yesterday! I don’t have your email anymore. If you want my bottle, email me: laugsb at sbcglobal dot net
Hey twin!
Musc Maori today also!
Is it too early for a scoop of chocolate ice-cream..? Who cares, I will have a cup of coffee with it, then it’s absolutely breakfast 😉
Never too early- or too late- for a scoop of ice cream! 😀
Here’s a trick I learned from Italian friends: Get a small brioche bun, slice it part way, and then stuff with a scoop or two of your favorite ice cream. Serve with a really strong cup of coffee.
And now I want some 🙂
So good on a weekend summer morning! So naughty!
But a good kind of naughty-LOL!
Hey twin!
Likewise, anything at all that you eat with Irish Breakfast tea is, by definition, breakfast 😉
Great observation. 🙂
SOTD–my standard Milk of Flowers
I really need to try that… I think they have at Bigelow. Or maybe New London? Will sniff next time I’m down there.
Bigelow is where I got mine
SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays Sunshine and Pancakes. I wasn’t sure about it because of the strong lemony opening,. But the subtle honey vanilla that’s like the hint of breakfast clinging to your clothes is pleasant and lovely.
I didn’t know about Milton Hershey’s birthday, so I’m embarrassed to say I ate the competitor , Mars, M &Ms at the stroke of midnight. My brain must have know about chocolate day. I lost count, regret it this morning, but they were really good in the moment!!
LOL!
I have a hint of breakfast clinging to my clothes where my babe mooshed his smeary oatmeal mouth on my shoulder. 😀
My morning scent right now is Theorema. I’m enjoying having three days off right now, so I can wear whatever I want for the next three days. After my shower, I’ll probably wear Shalimar. I’m waiting to hear back from my sister. I’d like to visit her next month in San Diego. So we shall see if next month is a go. I’m already wondering what perfume I should take.
You smell fantastic, of course!
Hope you get to go! I live here in San Diego and I always say September & October are the best times to visit. Still warm and sunny, but the tourists are mostly gone! My mom is coming for a visit tomorrow!
I’m wearing Tom Ford London – it doesn’t match the weather (it’s very warm in Brussels), but I forgot the scent this morning and London was on the table in the hallway, so I sprayed that. I still like it a lot, it seems warmer and spicier in the heat.
Going to eat some Cadbury chocolate now to celebrate the International Chocolate Day :)!
Wow- I bet you smell terrific! And every day is a good day for chocolate, I think!
I am joining you! My supermarket started carrying this European chocolate for dirt cheap (“Schogetten”- Alpine Milk Chocolate with Hazelnuts) I am on a break and am going to enjoy some now with Republic of Tea’s Limited Edition Green Rooibus Peppermint Bark tea…
That is great tea!
It really is…I bought the huge 250 count bag last winter and am still enjoying it!
I love Cadbury chocolate. Have some for me too 😉
I want to live in a house where Tom Ford just stands on a table in the hallway!
Love this image!
In a velvet smoking jacket!
😀
Ahhh, me too ????
I’ve been on a Safran Troublant bender lately and I’m keeping it going today. Probably my favorite comfort scent.
So good!
One of my next bottles, totally a comfort scent!
Yum….
I’m in SSS’s Pacific Forest. It may be a natural frag, but it is tenacious. I applied it last night and it still going strong this morning. On me it is a fairly linear scent. It is the sort of scent I’d like in a hair oil or a candle… but it is not grabbing me as a perfume like many others by Laurie. I also have a little Incense Pure, and the two seem oddly similar–although I get distinct woods in the first, and distinct incense resin in the second. (I am now in Pacific Forest AND Incense Pure for making this comparison… I’m blogging live 😉 )
Love IP but haven’t gotten around to trying PC or the new one, Equestrian….thanks for letting me know if the similarities….
that would be “of” not “if”
Considering how much I like Forest Walk, I do need to try Pacific at some time. Incense Pure sounds right up my alley too.
Pacific Forest is WONDERFUL.
I like IP better, but they are both super potent.
I loved this one! It made me miss San Fran..though I smelled mostly eucalyptus trees in the presidio..
I really wanted to wear Fou d’Absinthe today but I accidentally sprayed on Timbuktu instead. There are worse mistakes I guess.
🙂
I can confirm that there are much worse mistakes than this.
Definitely. Timbuktu has ended up suiting this warm Fall day very nicely.
They are quite different from one another. But as you say, it could be much worse.
Whenever you spray Timbuktu, it can never count as a mistake.
Very true!
SOTD is Le Galion Snob. For the moment, the weather is perfect but I believe it will be getting hot later!
I’m perfectly happy to celebrate chocolate more than one day a year 😉
SOTD: Bottega Veneta original
Yesterday I had a few free minutes and was passing by the Bottega Veneta shop temporarily housed in what was a Crate & Barrel store for years, or at least half of the store, which was just an incredibly odd space for BV. Nevertheless I got my hands on the new BV Eau Sensuelle and of course now I want more. It is just lovely! The suede is in there, but it’s much more fruity and some floral too.
Eager to see this reviewed (hint, hint :))
very nice!!! I will have to smell that one..
So glad to hear it is good! I will look for it.
International Chocolate Day- well, I know what I am doing after work! Moonstruck Chocolate here i come!
It was chilly last night – 45F where I was. I left the windows open on the second floor to air out the house but need the blankets in the middle of the night. Am halfway unpacked, and will be interviewing people today and tomorrow for renting a room in the house. They cannot be opposed to perfume, good tea, early mornings, tidiness, good food and must be employed.
(The house, to me, is HUGE. 1500 sq ft (140 sq meters) and to have one person living there seems like a huge waste.)
SOTD: Molinard’s Jasmine, which is perfect for a warm late summer/early fall day. There is a warm, rosy note that keeps it grounded and not skanky at all.
If I were single and living nearby I’d apply 😉
It’s a lot of space for 1 person but I’ll bet if you stayed alone you’d eventually spread out and start to feel like it’s not enough room 🙂
You would have a spacious, carpeted bedroom and a full bath with a huge soaking tub!
Oh, I can see getting used to the space- I am already used to my kitchen, which is open to the lounge and so spacious. I love it!
And funny, or at least think you are funny. Funny helps a lot.
Funny and sense of humor is definitely a plus!
Sounds like a very nice space! So just curious – when you finally find a tenant and s/he is employed at the time of signing but then loses the job, what is your recourse?
Hey lovely! Good question! I am basically looking for a student or someone a bit more established so that an immediate job loss is not something on the horizon. And fortunately what I would be charging could be doable on unemployment insurance- but that only lasts so long, thus someone who is hopefully stable.
SOTD = Trayee. I’m really starting to love this. Why does it have to be so spendy???
I will be celebrating with some awesome 70% cocoa chocolate ice cream this afternoon from my fave artisan ice cream shop!
Wearing Tauer Noontide Petals on a glorious sunny day.
Yum, I am jealous.
That sounds divine! 70% chocolate ice cream – wow!
Morning all. It’s 3 a.m. here, and I smell of nothing yet, but you all smell wonderful. As I read the comments, I thought, “Ooh, that one….no, that one!” Of course, the inspiration is complicated by the fact that I own hardly any of the perfumes you’ve mentioned, but I’m inspired anyway. I’m going to be in the States next year, and I will make a push to organise myself some samples from SSS. I think that Ms Erickson will post to a hotel, and if so, I will be able to broaden my perfume education to that extent. Maybe we will get to the Perfume House, even. Don’t know the details yet, but the dear man booked tickets to San Francisco yesterday. Yay! It’s such fun to anticipate! Oh, and I’ve just decided to wear Fate today. There’s something enchanting about its sweet, slightly pollen-y golden-ness. Be very well in your busy days, everyone.
yes, if you can do get your hands on some SSS samples…Laurie does beautiful fragrances!
There are so many in her line that sound appealing. I wish she had a retail outlet, but I’ll sort something out.
Ooh a trip to anticipate. Tiger Lily is in San Francisco so there’s a place you can add to your sniff list even if you don’t make it up to Portland
Thank you for that idea! I think we will have two or three days in the city at the end of our trip, and Richard is very patient with my sniffery. He tends to deliver me to places, then he wanders off to contemplate railway lines and bridges and things. It works out very amicably. Usually.
If you’d like to ship perfume purchases to my house, I’ll be glad to collect them for you and deliver them to you in SF. Email me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of geeeeemayle.
You are so kind! Thank you! I would love to take you up on that exceptionally generous offer. I will wait and see how the dear one works out the bits and pieces of our trip, then see if our timing fits in with your commitments. I’ve been day-dreaming about trying some of the SSS perfumes ever since I officially became a perfumista, and this is a wonderful opportunity to try before I buy!
Do let us know your itinerary when you have it, I would love to be able to meet up with you if I am in the neighborhood! I haven’t been to Tiger Lily yet and need to rectify that.
I will! I’d love to meet as many of you as I can! I do know that we’re leaving A-NZ on the Monday of Queens’ Birthday Weekend but R is talking about going straight to Seattle to pick up a rental car.
Satsuma body mist, which I got (along with shower gel) from a Labor Day sale at The Body Shop.
Yesterday, I sprayed on Nirvana Bourbon from a sample. I liked it, but it seemed to fade quickly. Happened to be in a Sephora later, so sprayed on Atelier Mandarin Glaciale. I received three different compliments that evening. That never happens. Hmmmm….
I like Mandarin Glaciale too and it lasts pretty long on my skin….
It must. I sprayed it on about 4:45 and was still getting compliments three hours later. And I didn’t overspray….
I have found that Atelier scents tend to last on me.
Few perfumes last more than a couple of hours on me but a lot of the Ateliers are very persistent on my skin. I’ve not noticed Nirvana Bourbon being short-lived but I’ve only worn it at bedtime.
I think I can claim one of those compliments 😉
It was very nice on you. I wonder if they have one those small travel sprays of that one.
I bet Sephora does!
They do. That’s what I used…
Robin how do you like Musc Maori? I have been somewhat curious to try it
It is great fun to me — reminds me of chocolate egg creams. But not sure I’d pay for it.
SOTD – 31 RC. It has gotten so cold all of the sudden in Bay Area!! Time to get the ambers out
Smelling good!
I’m vacationing this week and have been unscented for much of the time, mostly because the natural smells here are so wonderful, but I just had to tell you all that I found a bottle of vintage Silences hidden behind the powder room sink in the house we’re staying in. It’s a vessel-style raised-bowl sink in a relatively dark little space, and I wonder how long the bottle has been just sitting there unnoticed.
Wow, that’s quite a find! How does it smell?
It’s perfect – better than my own vintage bottle from ebay. Makes me wonder who left it here, and whether they’re sad about losing it.
What a find, SheriG!
SOTM was Geranium Monsieur, which is nice but turns to mint on me. I wish it had more Geranium. Now in Iris Cendre.
SOTD is Neela Vermeire Pichola, thanks to the generosity of Okland Fresca who sent me a sample. I have tested it a couple of times already and I am really enjoying it. A nice and soft citrusy white floral which I find very, very lovely. Perhaps the combination of tuberose with orange blossom makes it delicate, pretty and amazingly wearable. A very happy and romantic scent that makes me smile. Going to my buy list.
I want a bottle of that one too.
SOTD: Union Celtic Fire. Feels like autumn here so a bonfire scent fits right in.
I like that one…also, Gothic Bluebells….
Joining floragal in BV. And putting extra chocolate on my cappuccino in honor of the day. Have a good one, everybody.
Hey twin 😉
It’s a warm, cloudless (!) sunny day and I finished off a decant of Diptyque Geranium Odorata. It starts off with a blast of tart green and morphs into a floral. It’s nice but I don’t need more of it.
I am wearing Le Plus Beau Jour de Ma Vie today…
It is very sweet…lots of almond. Probably too sweet and linear for me…it hasn’t changed since I sprayed it 2 hours ago.
Yeah, this one is about as sweet as it gets. I wear it when I’m staving off dessert cravings.
I am wearing vintage Samsara edt today.
I’ve been trying to think of nut/grain scents this week, busted out my sample of L’heure bleu on Sunday, and full-strength Bois d’Armenie yesterday (I have small decants of the original and the reformulation)…but that one is just more fall, and less “nut.”
Other suggestions around here? I should obviously be writing/researching for my grant instead, but… 😉
OK, I put on eau d’hiver, and because it isn’t at all hiver-like outside it’s actually much more almondy 🙂
A few ideas —
Parfumerie Generale has several with cereal grains. FM En Passant. L’Artisan Bois Farine or Noir Exquis. Thierry Mugler Angel Muse. Tom Ford Black Orchid. Kenzo Amour. Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu. Hermes Elixir Merveilles or Vetiver Tonka. Serge Lutens Jeux de Peau. Lab on Fire Paris*LA. Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze. Aedes Signature. Diesel Loverdose Tattoo.
Great list Robin!
Lostmarch Lann-Ael.
And that reminded me, could not say why (!) of Valentino Uomo, which has hazelnut.
Yohji Homme is supposed to have hazelnut in addition to coffee. I think Kevin liked the reissue, which doesn’t seem to get much mention here. It would be a good fall scent in terms of tone, too.
I would wear Nez a Nez Marron Chic, but it makes me crave a nutty dessert!
My longlist for this week:
Huitieme Art – Poudre de Riz [rice]
PG – 22 DjHenné [wheat]
Heeley Coccobello [coconut]
D S & Durga – spirit of the glen [malt]
PG – 10 Aomassaï [hazelnut]
Ys-Uzac – BOM incense [pistachio]
Ineke – Hothouse flower [corn silk]
Aedes de Venustas – eponymous [hazelnut]
Hermès – Vetiver Tonka [hazelnut]
CSP – Coco anything [coconut]
Testing the new Chanel No 5 L’eau. Pleasant, but I’m not sure I need this…
Pleasant sounds like good news – i am looking forward to testing this too.
It’s definitely in the No 5 family, but the aldehydes are turned way, way down.
Good to know! Sounds like I might like it 🙂
I think that is why I like it! Not a huge fan of No 5.
I’m not a big fan of No 5 either. Plus it’s my MIL’s signature scent, so it feels like wearing someone else’s clothes.
I was hoping this would be “my” No 5. It’s certainly more like me than No 5 or No 5 Eau Premiere, but I’m still not sure it fits.
I tested this yesterday, it really is pleasant. I did not get much longevity from it though.
Me neither.
Just tried it at Dillards, and same reaction: pleasant, preferable to No. 5, fleeting. Will retry later.
Very busy day, so only have time to say SOTD is Heeley “Coccobello”, which is slightly cheating because technically a coconut is not a nut (and certainly not the type of nut you associate with harvest festivals). I’ll be more ‘on message’ with my perfume choice tomorrow. ;^)
(It’s not bad, the Coccobello; I’m not crazy about the salty leafy note and prefer the smoother middle and end development)
hey…I counted NUTmeg as a nut even though it is not…it is a seed…your fragrance sounds interesting! I happen to love the scent of coconuts…
It’s rare to find a coconut neither gourmand nor especially beachy I guess. :^)
Slumberhouse Pear & Olive smell like straight up coconut except for the brief fruity topnote.
But nutmeg goes into pumpkin pie, which fits the harvest theme. 🙂
Mmmm…and super low-integrity pumpkin bundt cake which means I don’t have to make a crust.
Back from a dentist appt. this morning so I cheered myself up with some Ashoka. In chocolate news, I think I was Deva who mentioned Tony Chocoloney bars and their limited distribution, but I have a store 3 blocks from me who carries them and they are indeed wonderful. I’ve also discovered that Amazon sells Cadbury that is made in the U.K. and is far better than the stuff manufactured here by Nestle. The Fruit and Nut bar has actual almond halves instead of pieces almost too small to see with the naked eye. AND, I discovered another great chocolate brand, named Chocolove. I highly recommend their Pretzel or Almond Toffee bars.
I am trying not to think about making a Chocolate Banana Cream Pie and thus far failing.
Chocolove is goooooood. I recommend the raspberry and the ginger.
Seconding the Chocolove raspberrry! I also like their orange with dark chocolate.
Chocolove sounds fantastic, hope I can get some in the UK!
Ooh, UK Cadbury fruit and nut bars? Need to get me some of those. Yum!
I concur….Cadbury from Europe is definitely better! i used to have a coworker who was of Irish decent and whenever her dad would come and visit her from Ireland he would bring the cadbury bars and she would gift me some as she was well aware that I had a sweet tooth!
JLo Still – my favorite “yeah i showered today” frag ;D
Considering recommending the CdG incense series to a friend so I’m retesting them this week. Today is Tokyo. I can’t decide if I like it or not on myself, but I’ll include it in the samples I’m planning to provide.
Also, I got Luckyscent’s e-mail about Diptyque’s new Rose Incensee and am being tantalized to death by that black glass dodecahedron (or whatever it is) bottle. Has anyone smelled it yet?
Yes, it’s quite nice. Rose done up in Diptyque fashion. The geometric bottle looks great in person, too. I would still classify it as fresh, but different from Eau Rose. A bit deeper, but not necessarily dark or in the same league as Portrait of a Lady or Une Rose.
Thanks, Elizabeth! This is now at the top of my To Sample list.
Wearing M7 (Original Formulation. Sis got it for me as an Xmas Present in the early 2000’s) and It smells EXQUISITE!!!! SO GOOD!
Jealous!
Nice! I have a bottle too!
Wearing Gypsy Water today. Which was a really random pick since it was grey and drizzling out this morning… I haven’t worn this in a long time.
Chocolate of the day is a square of Chuao’s Honeycomb bar. Even better is that CVS has recently started selling some of their chocolate bars! It’s an easy walk down the street for me if I decide that I’m wanting some.
SOTD = same as yesterday. Omnia Crystalline L’Eau EdP. Works well as a “last hurrah of summer” type scent for me.
I will have to make stop into my CVS!
I love that bar, and had no idea CVS had them! Thank you.
I had some toblerone with a cup of Darjeeling this afternoon, so unwittingly participated in Chocolate Day. SOTD was Marc Jacobs Blush, so nice in this hot sticky weather, it smells like jasmine tea to me, and I smell something like anice or liquorice which isn’t listed in the notes, anyhow, very refreshing.
For those of you who are following the “NO-buy” rule like me DO NOT READ THIS…
for all the rest, Olfactif is featuring Dame Perfumery this month and with code LOVEDAME you get 10% off (or so my email says…the one that I just deleted 🙂 !!!)
You are NAUGHTY! I think we should rrade avatars as your Edible Siamese Twin owl is too cuddly.
LOL!
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Chypre Mousse
If ever there was a divisive fragrance among the resurrected oldies (you know what I mean – revived houses, perfumes made now using old formulas), this would be it. The on theme note is roasted chestnuts! I so love this scent but rarely wear it, partially due to a busted atomizer on my decant – I ahould just spray from my bottle!
As to being an art vandal (see my 9/12 SOTD comment which is at the bottom), I can now remove that from my resume. I saw a Bryant Park worker today and asked her about the cards and she said that they can be removed and taken by anyone. In hindsight, were this not the case, I think the cards would have been attached more securely (e.g. using a heavy gauge cable tie vs. a safety pin).
What to wear tomorrow? Perhaps Angel Muse for it’s hazelnut note. Or ELDO Tilda Swintin Like This for pumpkin. Can you see I am channeling Fall!
Yay for Fall! You smell great. I love roasted chestnuts, along with memories of eating them in big cities.
Also, yay! for your act of art (not) vandalism. I would have been tempted to do the same thing. Bill Cunningham’s shade of blue is one of my favorite colors.
Bryant Park is full of memories too. When my significant other was an NYU grad student we often wandered those neighborhoods. Good times. 🙂
Bryant Park is an oasis. I like to walk through it on my way to work.
SotD = Chanel Eau de Cologne from my happily dwindling decant, keeping things simple on my first day back to school, teaching little ones how to sing.
As I typed that last sentence i laughed at myself. Kids innately know how to sing, how to enjoy music on their own. It’s actually my job to help each child enjoy music as a student, and as member of a group. It’s cooperative play, really.
I like to listen to kids singing, on or off key. When they turn into teenagers, however, and sing as a pack at the top of their lungs inside a train for 10 minutes, I could just strangle them. This was my experience yesterday and I felt the equivalent of road rage.
Another day that started out cool and gorgeous so I broke out Perfumerie Generale’s Indochine.
Chocolate of the day was Lindt Excellence dark chocolate with intense orange flavor.
