Monday, all over again! As consolation, it's also Chocolate Milkshake Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Alaïa Paris by Azzedine Alaïa.
Reminder: 9/16 will be Harvest Moon Friday: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain / cereal note. If you don't have one, you could think of another note associated with the fall harvest season — apple? hay?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I’m in Forest Walk today. It’s nice and chilly this morning.
I’m rather sore today from tiling all day yesterday. The husband and I spent 11 hours putting up tile for our new back splash in the kitchen. A professional probably could’ve done it in half that time, but since this was our first major DIY project ever it took us a bit longer than expected. Still, it looks a thousand times better than it did and we still haven’t even grouted yet. (yep 11 hours just to get the tile on the walls)
That’s a great bonding experience and it may turn out even better than a professional job. We did that in our first house and knew that after we got through it without using the tile cutter on each other 🙂 our relationship could probably withstand many challenges.
Feel better soon.
It is a bit of a bonding experience and not once during the whole time did we ever get upset with each other. Actually, we never fight. The only times we ever got upset with each other or argued severely about anything was when we were house hunting and even that was mild by most standards of fighting couples that I’ve seen. We are kinda the oddball couple out of our group of friends because no one really believes that we never argue. Sure, we disagree on things, but it never gets to the point where we are being hurtful to each other.
He’s much more sore than I am because he was using the tile cutter and going back and forth hunching over the machine. I was usually helping him and at the end putting up the tiles that he was cutting.
It sounds like you have found an understanding of how to best use each other’s talents.
It’s so lucky that you and he can argue constructively. To acknowledge the other person’s feelings and perspective, then come to a satisfactory resolution takes not only skill, but certain elements in the relationship.
Wow! Tiling is a lot of work, but so worth it in the end!
Congratulations! I’ll bet it looks great even without the grout. I tiled the bathroom in my old house and will be doing the backsplash here in a few months. Sweat equity is the best!
Not sure if my husband and I would have been on speaking terms after that, but I bet your kitchen will look great. We had a really hard time picking the backsplash for our kitchen, but after we figured it out, we love it.
A light application of Triomphe (Rance). 🙂
I am wearing Creed Angelique Encens, one of my favorite scents of all time.
Hera- THAT sounds yummy, I am not familiar with it but will investigate!!
I am wearing Jasmin Angelique by Atelier! I wanted to smell fresh & pretty after a long weekend waterskiiing on the lake!!
You Must smell LOVELY! Perhaps like the bonfire on the lake after dark??
Creed is a house I have not explored at all – the sales people are usually very pushy and there are way too many things to try and keep one’s sanity.
Which other frags from this line would you recommend
I feel the same way about Creed so I don’t know much about other fragrances from the line but Angelique Encens is special, I felt in love with it years ago
I have Virgin Island Water, lime, coconut, and rum, and really nice on a hot day. I also have Jasmin Imperatrice Eugenie, woody jasmine and vanilla.
I am going with Avignon which is just perfect for the chilly weather we’ve been having. Fortunately it should warm up again later this week.
You smell great! I am enjoying the chill this morning, although I won’t be happy when summer ends.
Thanks. I do like a bit of chill but yesterday it didn’t get above 10 C and it drizzled all day. Should be back in the twenties for the rest of the week.
Iris Poudre by FM.
It is Monday again ?!
It is Monday, but at least you smell fantastic.
Every seven days… sigh!
I am sighing in happiness at the perfection that is Chanel No. 22.
I would be sighing in happiness too if I were wearing no 22!
I found my vintage EDC 🙂
ACK!!!! lucky! lucky! lucky YOU!!! 🙂
I love 22..I am going to put some of this on my other wrist
Scent twin!!!
I am in Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta, today. What a cheerful scent.
I am drinking a cup of black tea from Burma/Myanmar brought by a friend who visited. It is very dark Assam like tea with some smoke. It is pretty interesting, but I am not sure I have the brewing parameters dialed in.
Your tea sounds interesting. I recently tried a tea from Laos which felt like a cross between a Chinese tea (Panyong probably) and an Assam.
Austenfan, I am not a tea drinker, but the best coffee I have ever had in my travels was Laotian coffee. It was like drinking a cup of smoky, smooth, velvet.
I buy it online in small batches since my original hoard was drunk pretty quickly after returning from Laos
This coffee sounds interesting. Where to you buy it?
At Lao mountain coffee on line
Or Maria’s
in Los Angeles there’s a large Laotian population so it’s fairly easy to get.
I am so bad — I finally figure out the best way to brew a particular tea, then because I have too many teas, later I can’t remember what I figured out. I ought to put a sticky on every tin or bag.
I use a reusable chalkboard label on the bottom of the tin.
Smart.
That tea sounds lovely.
Wearing Gardénia Passion on yet another hot day in the Netherlands. Drinking a green tea fragranced with grapefruit blossoms.
First day back to work today after a long leave, so very anxious. I had planned to wear No. 19 EDP, but I think NSTers have influenced me to match my fragrance to my outfit. SOTD Pichola – to go with my pink and black dress.
You smell fabulous. Pichola is divine.
Hope your first day back goes well, and you certainly smell wonderful! I’ve been enjoying my small decant of Pichola and will be very sad when it runs out.
Bastet, I can send some your way if you like. I will check the NoVa meet up contact list.
That is so nice of you! Maybe I have something you would like as well . . .
Welcome back. Hope it’s a calm and satisfying day!
You smell and look perfect!
Hoping your first day back is smooth and welcoming! You smell lovely.
Have a great day back!
Viktoria Minya ‑ Hedonist Iris
Chanel Fatale lip gloss (a discontinued red)
Putting NO 22 on my other wrist
🙂
I’m wearing Lann-Ael which definitely fits the poll. It smells exactly like a bowl of Cinnamon Life with milk.
You smell delicious! I love Lann-Ael!
Did you try Fresh Cream by Philosophy? I love what they did, and it smells quite realistically of fresh cream, though mixed with vanilla and something sweet
I haven’t yet! I do have a sample of that milk perfume from Jo Malone somewhere…
JM Sweet Milk! that’s a good one 🙂
Oh, I have to try that one now!
Robin, how are you liking the Alaia today? I blind bought a tiny bottle and on first trying smelled violet??
SOTD is TF Vert de Bois. Sniffed the three new Vert scents and got a sample of this one. It is nice but masculine and a little soapy. The Boheme was cloying on my skin. The incense one smelled a lot like the incense scents I already have; immediately made me think of Byredo Incense Chembur.
I like Alaia, I’m just not dying, so far, to own it? I hope they’ll do a wonderful flanker — give it a bit of a twist without dumbing it down.
The new TFs sounds a little underwhelming.
The Boheme made me think of green lilacs and not in a good way.
Good morning Y’all!
SOTD: Flowerbomb.
Beverage of the AM: Iced coffee, followed by 44oz Mountain Dew now. Waiting for energy to load…..
That’s a lot of caffeine!
LOL!! Doesn’t seem to be near enough! 🙂 We did a ton of yardwork this weekend (sounds like you did a ton of work too!), so I’m glad to have a desk job this morning! I’ll sip on that soda most of the day….
*shakes just hearing about all that MD!*
Morning all, it is still surprisingly warm and sunny in the UK and set to get hotter for a few days, so I am still enjoying summer scents, although for some reason am wearing a sample of La Fille de Berlin today and not sure it matches the weather.
LFDB is very rich. I don’t normally wear it in the heat, but you will certainly smell good for a very long time. I get many hours out of just a dab. It is one of my fav roses.
Oh goodness, I’m all over the place this morning. Five days to the wedding! And I checked to see what Friday’s theme was and got incredibly giddy. Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” is the song we picked for our first dance, so this couldn’t be more perfect. I’m taking it as a positive sign. 🙂
Wearing Ginestet Botrytis, which also feels perfect at the moment (thanks Ari for the recommendation!).
AHHHHHH WEDDING AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
(Botrytis does indeed seem perfect, especially since Alyssa Harad mentions wearing it to HER wedding in Coming to my Senses!)
“AHHHHHH” is definitely how I feel, and fortunately, it can be adapted to every possible emotion 🙂
Have a great week of AHHHHs!
Have a wonderful week. It will all be perfect, even with the occasional blips.
Thank you! Hopefully the blips are minor
Have a wonderful week. Our first dance was a Neil Young song! “Over and Over”. You and the wedding will be beautiful.
Five days! Hope it is all positive signs, all week 🙂
Might be a fun Friday project–a favorite song and matching perfume…
Wedding! I have to admit that I didn’t really want a traditional wedding but enjoyed every fussy minute of planning it. Have fun!
Such an exciting time! That “week of” I remember like it was yesterday. Lots to do and yet, so very happy it is almost here!
Neil Young’s Harvest Moon is one of my all-time favorite songs!
Congratulations and the best of luck to you!
Good luck with all your wedding plans and your wedding day!
Yay! And great song. It all sounds perfect ????
Lovely song, and good omens all around!
Ahh, love that song, I’m a big Neil Young fan- what a wonderful song for you’re first dance!
How exciting! I’m sure everything will go well, and if there are minor blips, no-one will ever know 🙂
Harvest Moon is a perfect choice.
Congratulations and best wishes!
Hot, hot, hot! Breaking into a sweat with my morning coffee. Trying to psychologically prepare myself for stepping out to mow the lawn, which resembles a jungle with all the rain we’ve had.
Post mowing and shower, I’m planning on FM Vetiver Extraordiaire to perk me up and reset my engine. Right now, I’m sans fragrance, and wearing a most unbecoming outfit of running shorts, long sleeved sunblocking shirt, bright red wellingtons, and a huge floppy hat. I look ridiculous! As a service to the populace, I want reassure everyone I would never wear this is public. It’s just for cutting the grass, folks, so rest easy!
T-Rex is busy trying to get a frozen grilled chicken chunk out of her Kong toy and is really working hard at it. That will keep her out of trouble for about five minutes.
Happy Monday to all????
You will be smelling great very soon. VE is exceptional.
Gosh, I would love to be moving a lawn right now. No lawn in the concrete jungle, and I miss that smell and clipping away row after row.
Go conquer that lawn, take that shower and wear that wonderful fragrance! You can do it!
Hahahaha, sounds exactly like MY yardwork outfit but my wellies are green 🙂 We have evil biting ants and they can’t get past the wellies. So we’re anti-fashion twins 🙂
Tea is French Roast for the commute
SOTD sampling TF ombré leather, which I am enjoying very much
How would you compare it to Tuscan Leather? Is it similar to anything else? Trying to get an idea about it since it hasn’t arrived here yet.
I would say if Tuscan Leather is casual, then ombré leather is city.
On me, the black leather is deep and somewhat coffee/chocolate.
I am sniffing myself now and loving it. I think there’s room for both.
Much like his Tuscan Leather?
Appreciate the reply! 🙂
Ah! Eager to hear how this one is. Do tell!
I’m still wearing my summer scents, although it finally seems like fall might be coming to Virginia (after a very hot weekend). SOTD is AG Songes EDP, so beautiful but maybe too sultry for the office (I’m only wearing a small amount but I feel a bit self conscious).
Everybody’s wearing Alyssa Harad’s wedding scents today!!
I knew she was married in Botrytis, but did she also wear Songes?
Yes, she wore both! “I wore it at my wedding. I’m still glad I did.” http://alyssaharad.com/2012/10/a-dream-of-white-flowers-annick-goutals-songes/#more-794
(I’m a big, big fan of the book, if it wasn’t already obvious 🙂 The writing is nothing short of gently hypnotic.)
Also a big fan of her book. I found the bridal shower so moving.
Her book is what sent me down the Rabbit Hole. It gave me permission to “come out” as someone in love with scent, even though that seems to be a little politically incorrect right now,
You smell divine. I wore it yesterday and it still lingers on my wristband.
Songes edp is probably the most intoxicating sultry fragrance that I own. It is very special! I wear it to work every once in a while, but only a little bit.
I am in Donna Karan Gold edp. A pretty fragrance with a lovely lily opening note and a comforting amber and leather drydown. I find it very enjoyable with good sillage and longevity. Drinking lots of iced coffee. I have been in the office since 6am and still very, very sleepy…
Gold is one of my favorite fall fragrances – I’ll be breaking it out of storage soon.
You smell terriff.
One of my Autumn faves too, beautiful!
Scent is Hermès Eau de Rhubarbe Écarlate; tea is yerba mate and mint. A vacation Monday always feels like an unexpected gift; my spouse and I are going on another thrift expedition. Have a good one, everybody.
I have yet to hit a sweet spot with mate–maybe it just isn’t for me.
You smell great!
It’s so warm here that I’m wearing En Passant. It’s also supposed to have a wheat note, so my Grain Week game is strong!
Mmmmm, En Passant…
Wearing Mexican Cocoa…sampling La Danse de Bleue et de Violette (thank you Holly 🙂 )
Good morning, NST. Thanks, everybody, for the birthday wishes on Friday. I didn’t get back inside until too late to reply and the weekend was busy.
This morning I’m doing some tidying and housework while testing several things. Finally got my paws on some Cuir de Lancôme and now I want a bottle. Not to wear myself, perhaps. It’s a bit too candied and floral to be comfortable, at least in this weather, but I could spray everyone who came to visit: “Excuse me, you must be properly scented…”
I’m also testing Bapteme du Feu which is really odd and possibly addictive. I’m not sure if I like it but I can’t seem to stop huffing it.
I’m being entertained by the cats, who are finally settling down a bit after the trip from Mom’s. We left Newburg and brought home Haineko to see if being inside would help with her allergic dermatitis. The dynamics are interesting. Doolittle loves her sister, but I can almost hear her saying, “this is mine. Don’t touch. This is also mine, and this is mine. No, don’t touch that, it’s mine. You can have this, I don’t like it anymore. Both the humans are mine, but you can sleep here on the corner of the bed as long as you don’t touch them or me.” Poor Haineko is currently trying to birdwatch and being chased from one windowsill to another by Ms. Bossypants. They also just got their claws trimmed which Doolittle adores (because treats and cuddles), and Haineko hates (she won’t touch treats or wet food and loves her snaggy death-hooks).
Looks like I’m rambling again, sorry. Off to tackle the piles of laundry and trails of kitty litter!
Cuir de Lancome is a fragrance that is best in cooler weather so it can develop, I think.
I had assumed as much. It is really gorgeous, though. I was really surprised when the leather peeked through the sugared bouquet. Cozy and elegant. Too bad my favorite beaded cashmere sweater and wool and leather skirt seem to have been found by moths, because they would be a perfect match for it. I’ve been cleaning out my closet and just found the disaster. 🙁 The “moth proof” storage box wasn’t.
I love hearing about your family of purrs. Never stop!
Thanks. The feeling is completely mutual. I’ve considered that I might be boring people but then decided that I love hearing about other people’s pets (and families, jobs, wardrobe and makeup finds, etc.) and anyone who isn’t interested can just skip me.
Have you read
http://www.wsj.com/articles/yes-you-can-train-your-cat-1471016655
Starting a week of nut/grain secents with Parumerie Générale “Aomassaï”. There should be hazelnut note, but I don’t really get it, although the caramel is plenty strong.
That one reminded me of hazlenut flavored coffee creamer.
Yes, you’ve put your finger on it, there’s definitely something creamy running interference with the hazlenut! I should also have said, up to now the PG scents I’ve tried have been unimpressive weedy things (on my skin at least), but this one has a bit of power behind it. :^)
I love that one, so unusual.
It is, isn’t it – sort of gourmand and sort of not. The opening has a sort of dank green-ish tinge to it, which thankfully doesn’t persist. :^D
Funny, that’s the part I wish stuck around.
AG Rose Absolue over Caudalie dry oil.
I smelled the Caudalie perfume in Sephora yesterday and still think I need a bottle of that one. There’s something addictive about it.
Smelling good!
Huh! I like the oil, but am having trouble imagining it translated into perfume. Is it a beachy suntan oil type scent, or is it a straight-up floral? Or something else?
I think it was reviewed on BdJ some time ago (not favourably so, but it describes the scent).
🙂
Great combination!
I saw we’re house twins! Is Gardenia Passion anything like un Matin d’Orage?
No not at all! It’s not a gardenia at all, but a tuberose in disguise. It’s much more of a bombshell than Matin.
Now you have me curious about the Caudalie oil!
It is lovely, the fragrantica notes give it a lot of musk, but I don’t get that very much, I find it rosy with a hint of vanille and grape (not sour). I think I read somewhere Jacques Cavalier was the nose for this oil.
I wore Mayotte yesterday for the first time and really liked it.
I understand it is Mahora a bit watered down so I am looking at full bottles of Mahora on evilBay complusively. 😉
Has anyone smelled both please? Are they really that similar?
Was going to ask if there were different formulas/bottles for Mahora but it appears it was only out a couple years…
Tauer Tuberose Sotto la Luna for a sunny windy Monday.
I’m in Aroma Geisha Vanilla Hanoki EDP today.
Just a teeny spray on my chest and wrists so I won’t
get any negative feedback from my office co-workers
and bosses.
Smelling fab! Geisha Vanilla Hinoki is a marvelous choice for a Monday.
7+ hours of tennis watching this weekend, all worth it but I feel like I got nothing done! It’s the one sport I will give up time to watch for hours. Matches were outstanding and happy with both female & male singles winners.
SOTD for me is Cuir de Lancome.
Anyone try the new Bottega Veneta Eau Sensuelle? Curious.
You smell perfect.
Did you watch live or on TV?
Would have loved to see it live! But no, watched at home.
Ore by Slumberhouse today. I sprayed myself with Rouge Bunny Rouge Embers yesterday, and it lasted until this morning and even through the shower. But it is a little whiff and it kind of blends well with Ore. I got myself a sampler of Rouge Bunny Rouge, and I like pretty much all of them, but have to say that they seem to be working over the same themes…
I liked (but didn’t need) “Embers”. I have “Tundra” lined up for next week – have you tried that one and if so what did you make of it?.
You know, there is no Tundra in this set. So you will have to tell me what you think 🙂
I liked quite a few RBR’s, and I have Lilt (Best Peach Open Ever), Incantation (fig, blackcurrant, two of my favorite notes), and Arcadia (“woody metallic”). The line does have an overall icy/slick feel that I quite enjoy, when I’m in that post-modern sort of mood – lol
I really liked Lilt, but it was green+fig predominant for me when I tried it. Have to revisit it, but I remember thinking of putting it onto my FB list 🙂
SOTD is Safari by Ralph Lauren.
I wore safari yesterday, it’s so green and golden, perfect for early autumn!
Happy Monday!
1) Your girl is FINALLY all moved into her NEW home! Huzzah! Now, the unpacking….
2) And my goodness does my couch look ratty when placed in my new home! Yeesh! I have wanted to buy a new one for so long; now I have the perfect excuse to do so!
3) Also, this week will be interviewing tenants for my room that I am renting out. I have been very selective – wrote a very specific and detailed ad, and so I have about 5 people (out of 70 responses) to talk to.
4) SOTD: Prada La Femme, from a sample. I want to like this so bad, like L’Infuson de Iris, but the notes seem to combo of dryer sheet and old Violet candy from the bottom of granny’s purse.
Congratulations! Now you can set to work making it ‘truly yours’! :^)
Yay on the move! Boo on the perfume. Sounds like an anappealing description.
Congrats on moving in! I hope the interviews go well.
Congratulations on YOUR new place!
I can just see you sitting down your tenants and presenting them with a list of perfume related questions followed by a blind test. I suppose they need to be interested in perfume but not so interested that they sneak samples from your collection. Good luck!! Glad the house is becoming more home-like.
LOL! How did you know my question set? They will also be quizzed on the importance of Gustav Mahler, Jacques Derrida, Audre Lorde and chocolate.
To pretend to wear perfume, I actually wear perfume….Discuss
Clarissa lured me out to Tigerlily on Sat with promises of great pastry at a nearby bakery that has been getting rave reviews. The ploy worked. I am usually a frangipane tart kinda gal, but I was swayed by the banana cream pies….(and bought tarts and cake slices for my family)–which is a little odd for me. Anyway, I have been mildly distracted ever since. Amazing dessert—super fresh intense banana without any stewiness, and fresh cream that was not too sweet.
Perfume? Oh ya. Perfume. We are here on NST to talk about perfume.
At Tigerlily, Fitzgerald and Guislain, in full Victorian get-up, gave a charming (and I usually lose my hearing within 10 feet of anyone in period costume unless they are in a play or movie) talk about Victorian methods of enfleurage, tincturing, maceration, etc. After assuring the audience several time that they use vegetable fat, not animal fat for their enfleurage practices, they described their meticulous process for recreating period fragrances. They passed around essential extraits and other base scents, including real civet–The civet was an eye-opener. I have smelled ambergris from a perfumer’s pallet and immediately could understand its place in perfumery–even if straight-up it was a little rough going. The civet? It was errr hmmmm not errrr nice. I kept thinking about Marc Antony and Cleopatra smearing themselves in civet in anticipation of their next romantic rendezvous… All I can say is that they really had to like each other!
In other news, I am wearing Lampblack today.
What a perfect Saturday! That banana cream pie sounds dreamy. And civet certainly is jarring, isn’t it? 🙂
Lampblack is good stuff. So, did you buy anything? Pre-confession to Donatella is good for you, you know…
I didn’t. I am really on a very strict moratorium until I’ve paid off some school and medical bills for my kids… totally worth it. I can wait…. and in the meantime I am enjoying shopping my own collection of samples–hence the Lampblack. Which I really like actually!
It was a first time I smelled raw ambergris and civet, and man it was a trip. It was also really interesting to see difference between enfleurage extract vs. more modern methods – and I was surprised by how differently things smell.
Their fragrances were very interesting. I was captivated by (of course the name already escaped me) Eucalyptus based one – which was a shocker since this is the last thing I would want to smell like. But it was amazing and had a fairly decent staying power – at least 6 hours. It was a bit pricey so I exercised that rare emotion called self-control (is it emotion? whatever it is, it is rarely exercised by me), thinking I could always buy it online. Don’t see it online however – which is probably a good thing.
Tartine is amazing. It was the first time I tried banana cream – and I am smitten.
What fun!
Tartine?
Yup. Those folks are deadly serious about butter, I tell you!
Good to know you did your civet duty. Sounds interesting. I live an hour from the Steampunk Capital of the World (Oamaru) …the resting place of every discarded Harris tweed suit and waistcoat, and button-up black shoes.
Hope your son’s doctor visit went well. Been thinking of you.
Pastries are nearly as interesting to me as perfume. 🙂
I am pretty sure we are also here to talk about banana cream pie.
That’s it. I am treating myself to Magnolia Peanut Butter Banana Pudding!
HdP 1969. The chocolate seems more noticeable than when I’ve worn it previously. Which is certainly not a problem!
Soivohle Centennial today since it’s cooled down enough to wear it
🙂 You smell great!
After several weeks of moving scheduling, I’m back to my regular schedule. Yay! I’m such a creature of habit. In honour of normalcy, I’m in Eau des Merveilles, my usual Monday SOTD.
This morning’s SOTD was vintage Mitsouko. After I get home from work, I think I will move on to Lyric.
Andrée Putman L’Original – cardamom is kind of a fall scent, right? Anyway, it’s still summer-y here, so I’m not ready to go all out for fall.
Scents of the Monday morning = Après L’Ondée early, then several hours later a spritz of Geisha Vanilla Hinoki (following Filomena’s pick for today). These lovelies are getting along just swell.
Après L’Ondée had a bit of an almond-pastry feeling this morning. I wonder if it was my imagination, my hungry tummy, or the heliotrope? Anyway, it’s delicious, and I almost wish I hadn’t bought a decant in the Guerlain clearance at STC as it is disappearing quickly. #perfectperfumeproblems
I think that’s the heliotrope! I get the same from FM Hiver.
It’s fall here today! Time to break out the fall scents! SOTD is SL Ambre Sultan. mmm
Yum! Both to fall and Ambre Sultan!
Perfect!
I’m wearing MH Fleur Oriental this morning. I think I am underdressed for it, in my jeans and turtleneck, as it smells so…so…ladylike. Like a fifties housewife in one of those full skirt housedresses. Not that it smells dated, but just like it’s demanding that I sit up straight and cross my legs at the ankle. I’ve never had this kind of experience with a scent, it’s fun!
Miller Harris scents are works of art, aren’t they?
I love this one, it really is rather ladylike, a real cool weather beauty.. I’m thinking of January Jones’ character in Mad men, it would really suit her, forgotten her name, or maybe Grace Kelly?
It’s been 5-8 degrees above normal here for so long, I can’t even remember what fall is supposed to be like. I need to able to wear my favorite late summer-early fall transition perfume AG Eau du Sud before I can really think about fall scents. Yes, I’m feeling a bit cranky about it, too!
Test driving the new Chanel No 5 l’eau today.
Def No 5, but more (non-screechy) citrus.
Great longevity ( 8+ hours and still going strong)
Amber Oud by Killian today. This is delicious, so much more than amber and/or oud. Right now its floral and incensey. Really one of my favorite perfumes…
(failing to inhibit the impulse to list)
My Favorite Perfumes
NV Mohur Extrait,
Chanel No 22,
BK Amber Oud,
L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube,
VC&A Bois d’Iris,
Guerlain Apres l’Ondee,
AG Songes…
One for each day of the week!
Hmmm, what is the common denominator in this list?
I’m enjoying L’artisan L’eau L’Ambre extreme and Al Oud. Love your list ( of the ones I know). Do you like Wonderoud?
Wonderful list, I’m definitely going to sample Amber Oud, love you’re description of it, sounds gorgeous.
Today I am committing an act of courage. Work was so dreadful yesterday that just putting on clothes and returning today deserves a medal for all of us who do it. People! Honestly! Just….people!
So. As a result of these very mere people (and they’re everywhere, have you noticed? Like fungus or something!) I want a perfume that is untroublesome and mannerly, so I’m wearing Traversee du Bosphore. It isn’t the most exciting perfume I own, but it is lovely, and predictable, and behaves within acceptable boundaries. It doesn’t scream it will sue a student (oh, grow up and stop being an utter prat!) or threaten young staff with imminent unemployment (this is Aotearoa-New Zealand, mate, and you can’t just fire people or threaten to; it’s illegal) or behave in ways variously bullying, pompous, ungracious and threatening. I came home yesterday so fed up that all I could face for dinner was two pieces of toast and three cups of tea, and I was still dealing with phone calls and fallout at 9.45. You can see why the gentle, uncomplicated sweetness of TdB has appeal today.
Oh, and my very mature, considered response to all this? That life is short, thank goodness, so I’ll buy some shoes.
Think you need to buy an air ticket!!! I was just reading the post about Close Up. Can you please sniff it for me next time you’re in perfume World? It sounds good.
Having just read Angels’s review I’m keeping with a sombre theme, Lush’s All Good Things. Great perfume…and I am wearing Skive for a compare and contrast. Where All Good Things is herbal, Skive is boozy ( first few minutes) . Later Skive’s leather comes through whereas AGT softens and the bitterness becomes powdery. I think AGT is the vegetarian version of Skive.
You smell great, Robin!
SOTD is VS Heavenly fragrance mist (bergamot and orris) spritzed generously on my clothes. I live in the land of perpetual summer, so why fight it? I’ll be able to break out my fall fragrances eventually. You know, somewhere around, say, mid-November.
It’s not exactly a shake, but I do happen to have some chocolate milk in the fridge. I’ll raise a glass this evening to today’s ‘holiday’. ????
Hey, chocolate milk works! I might join you.
In Chanel 22. How did I know about it for such a long time?
Talking about Chanel – has anyone tried the new EDPs yet? I read a review by someone on Facebook, comparing Coromandel EDP vs. EDT – and he liked EDT better, as it had a sparkle, which EDP did not. EDP also had less chocolate and more patch.
Anyone else tried it? Chances of me making it to Chanel boutique are nil, so I need to rely on you guys
I have the Beige edp, which is richer and without the plasticky smell of the otherwise-pleasant edp version.
Less chocolate? I might like the edp, then. That white chocolate note overpowered everything else when I wore the edt.
You and me both with No. 22 – almost perfect scent twin so my wallet cringes in fear 🙂
I’ll make it to the boutique at some point. I do already have a BUB of Coromandel EDT.
A good hefty spray of Chinatown today. My cold has had a relapse and I need something I can smell! My co-workers will also benefit, at least I assume they see my perfume as a benefit, no-one has ever complained 🙂
I had a lovely time meeting Waterdragon over the weekend – lots of talking and sniffing. Wondeful to meet in real life, even if it was the coldest few days of winter! It does make perfume sampling more challenging, it’s hard to get access to skin under five layers of wooly garments.
Chinatown…YUM!!!
A green day today: started off with using the No.19 bath gel as shower gel, which was delicious, but would prove expensive if done daily. Put on some no. 19 edp to follow, and am wearing my most recently-bought summer dress for the first, and probably last, time for the season. It is pretty, although I notice the world’s largest green flower sitting on my hip…
SOTD = Bvlgari’s Omnia Crystalline L’eau EdP. My sample was calling for attention this morning.
And, in Chanel Les Exclusifs news, it looks like all the EdTs are gone from the Chanel website as of this afternoon. All I saw there today were the EdPs. So if you were still on the fence about getting them, they’re gone. 🙁
Hello everyone ! I’m checking in from Bordeaux, France ☺
I had two wonderful days in Paris, then three days in bordeaux. Tomorrow we leave for three days in Cannes.
I bought Caron Piu Belloodgia on the first day in paris . The manager of the store was very helpful and friendly. She put quite a few samples in my bag when I checked out and psid.
Next stop was guerlain where I bought some Shalimar tea. I can’t wait to try it when I get home. We then went to Galeries Lafayette , where I bought Chloe Love Story for my new daughter in la as a souvenir.
Our first day in in Bordeaux I bought Hermes coffret contains two small bottles of Rose Ikebana, one bottle of Paprika Brazil and one bottle of Poivre Samarcande. I also purchased Eau d’orange verte. I got to try Hermes Galop, which is so nice! And there may be a full bottle in the future for me. So pretty!
Sounds fabulous! Congratulations on all your new perfume purchases! How fun! Shalimar tea – wow! that should be interesting.
I thought Galop was quite nice as well. Would be great if that came in the coffret offering, but I doubt it.
Safe travels!
Very late today. We had perfect day with a definite shift in the weather. It is finally cooling off so I could wear PdNs Kiss Me Tender. I love this fragrance in the fall. I also wore L’Heure Bleue last night for the first time since the spring. i seem to crave these fragrances in cooler weather.
Late to the party again!
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Equestrian
I liked this well enough when I first wore it last week that I decided to make it on theme with fall harvest – apple (definitely) and hay (maybe). Anyway, I spritzed 4x from my travel spray, twice the normal for SSS. Apple top note – yes! I didn’t get any hay or leather; however, I got woody amber incense. Not bad overall but not what I expected either. I’ll stick to By Killian Apple Brandy and although I would love to wear this tomorrow, I can’t due to the booze factor that may be too prominent for an in-person meeting.
In other news, those who read The New York Times may be familiar with Bill Cunningham, photographer to the fashionistas in NY. Bill passed away in late June this year, still missed by many. In a fitting start to Fashion Week, Bryant Park paid him a tribute via an outdoor installation using the Park’s folding chairs arranged in the shape of a 35mm camera. I saw the chairs last Friday, spiffified by a blue cloth covering the back of the chair (the color of his iconic blazer) and what looked like a mass card with his picture and a tiny metal camera pinned to one of the corners. Anyway, fast forward to today and I walked through Bryant Park again and the chairs were still there, this time in disarray and some of the cards missing. So, in the tradition of mass cards, I decided to take one. Believe me, had I seen New York’s finest I would have asked if the cards were for the taking, but since I did not see one, I kept it. I may have to add art vandal to my resume!
Thanks for sharing that story about fashion week. It was lovely to read it. Lucky you, for getting a card!
Oh great story, you art vandal, you!
I am also surprised at how much Bryant Park has changed…I went to high school in the area in the late 70s /early 80s and Bryant Park was not a place you wanted to be near…now, wow, I could sit in there all day watching the tourists go by!
and thanks for the info on Equestrian…I have tried all of Laurie’s scents but that one and your description was not what I expected (better than what I expected as the idea of hay and barns kind of turned me off)
Love this story, Hajusuuri! Good move. I would have done the same. NYTimes is not the same without Mr. Cunningham.
