It's Almost-Friday, and it's Star Trek's 50th birthday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Memo Inlé. Tea at the moment is Fortnum & Mason Countess Grey.
Reminder: 9/9 will be Tea Time Friday: wear a fragrance with a tea note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Tea. Earl Grey. Hot. mug is $13 at Cafe Press.
I’ll try to find my sample of Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber for the occasion! Or maybe Black Vetyver Cafe, in honor of Captain Janeway’s coffee addiction? Who knew Jo Malone were such Trekkies? 😉 Live long and prosper, NST!
I miss Captain Janeway! And Jo Loves should make some new version of BVC, right?
Is there a raktajino perfume around?
🙂
Captain Janeway rules!
Taking a break from tea notes and Assam of India today….
Retesting “HOLLY” on right wrist (citrus, orange blossom, woods made from sampler packs from Eden Botanicals) and “HAJUSUURI” on left wrist (soft, subtle, sweet skin scent of vanilla, labdanum, lavender, frankincense, coconut pulp and bitter almond)
so far so good but I don’t expect much longevity so I may refreshen later with Orange Sanguine….
These both sound lovely, are they you’re own blends?
yes 🙂
Holly and Hajusuuri sound fantastic 🙂
Made for two fantastic individuals 🙂
Oooh, this sounds delicious!
Hope you like it…although I must say the projection and longevity is weak 🙁
Chloe for me today. Saving my other tea scent for tomorrow.
Vintage or new? I like both so I will say you smell lovely
I think it’s fairly new. It’s from a mini my friend sent me a couple years ago.
The new Chloe is completely different from the original Chloe from the mid-late 70s (which was a heady white floral as opposed to the fresh dewy rose of the current one)….I love them both…wore the original when it first came out (and still have a bit in pure perfume format) and a younger family member wore the current one so often it became her signature scent until she moved on to Peony & Blush Suede.
If you should ever decide you want more of the vintage version — I’ve got some to spare.
Elisa- you are a sweetheart for offering but I have enough as I don’t wear it that often anymore …besides, maybe someone else may want to give it a try at swap or freebiemeet 🙂
Amaranthine for me today, sometimes I think I can smell the tea note, but not really sure, but anyhow, delicious.
TOTD; Twinings Golden Darjeeling, and also been sampling some Pekoe tea’s from a local festival stall that I got at the weekend, very refreshing.
You smell good 😀 I should wear that more frequently.
I have no earl grey scents to celebrate Star Trek’s 50th anniversary. I love earl grey tea though. I’m wearing Dzongka today, and when it wears off in 4 hrs I’ll put on SL 5 o’clock au gingembre to make up for my lack of tea this week.
May all of your journeys be without incident today!
You smell fabulous!
Love Dzongkha, you smell great.
Dzongkha wears off on you?! If I put it on, I get that heavenly musky dry down for 24 hours no matter if I shower once or twice. I love it but it’s a commitment.
Yup. It’s almost gone, can still smell some where it hit clothing though. I’m still not sure if my skin eats it or if I just get used to the smell. It might be an iris thing for me, as I can only smell Iris Silver mist for about 5 minutes then there’s nothing. I only have these two iris scents, sounds like I need to order some more samples for further research 🙂
I am in 31 RC
Green tea by MF this morning
Remember when it got cooler in NYC for a NY minute..the heat is on today..
You smell mahvelous!
The Glen Frye song is dancing around my head “The Heat is On”!!!!
HA! I should play that song!
31 RC is Mahvelous!
You smell perfect, obviously.
Yep, heat is back! Arrgghhh…
You smell fab!
Oliver Peoples (Byredo). It hasn’t got any tea notes as such, but I have an herbal fruit tea that it matches very well.
I don’t know if you saw my reply last night since it was so late, but I’d be interested in the Clive Christian. Maybe I have something you’d want in exchange? Email me if you’re still interested! madtolive88510 at gee male. and you smell nice! I had a few samples of that but it wasn’t quite right on me, so I gifted to a friend who really enjoys it.
No I didn’t see your reply, so I’m glad you caught me. I will email you tonight.
In the remnants of 31 Rue Cambon from last night. I’ll likely repeat 31RC after I get myself together and manage to take to a shower.
Can’t go wrong with a 31RC reapplication!
Star Trek!
I’m wearing By Kilian Imperial tea. I’ve liked it since I first tried it, but not quite enough to get a bottle.
I like it the same..had a sample and then when it was finished I was not willing to dish out the $$
I also have L’Occitane Jasmine Green Tea, so I sort of have that niche covered.
ooo I love this one. I think it is my favorite Jasmine tea scent. I don’t have a bottle either, I am thinking at some point I’ll get one of the travel sets instead.
The travel sets are actually not that crazily priced, especially compared to some other stuff on the market…
I agree!
Tea is French roast coffee
SOTD TF vert d’bois.
Your aura smells very fabulous!
what do you think of it? I just smelled these last weekend.
love it. I went to a private TF event at my local Nordstrom and brought a bottle home w/ me.
Today I am wearing Speziali Fiorentini Te Nero EdP, which is really nice and easy to wear. The mild vanilla musk drydown also plays well with a bunch of other scents if you feel like changing it up mid-day. I miss having the soap.
I am drinking a cup of Laduree Othello which is a spicy black tea with a splash of almond coconut milk creamer. It is chai adjacent.
You smell wonderful and your tea is wonderful.
I started using a new bottle of lemongrass-scented shampoo today, and Bulgari Eau Parfumee Au The Vert partners well with it.
Has anyone mentioned that drugstore.com and beauty.com are closing at the end of September? I’m guessing the deals will get better as the month winds down, but there are a few things on sale now (like Patou 1000).
Oh, I had no idea! Amazon killed them, I guess.
And who makes the shampoo, and do you like it?
Amazon killed everyone…I used to purchase vintage stuff that was kept in pristine condition (even Chanels!!!) from a small brick and mortar store in California and they would ship to me with a mere phone call and credit card …when I called about two years ago to make a purchase for my mom I was told they sell on Amazon now…so the Avon bottle that she wanted which I used to get from this store directly for 12 dollars was selling on Amazon from said store for 70 dollars…nope, I’ll pass!
I am old enough to remember doing that with favorite stores , including a purveyior of Santa Maria Novella out iin Ashland, who would be willing to have a leisurely chat and then send my order of incredible (expensive!expensive!) soap. They still carry it ( lots of wealth San Frans who vacation there) BUT there is no longer time for a chat! 🙁
I’ve run into this with antique china and flatware also. What used to be found in small shops is now on national display, thus fetching a higher price.
My understanding is that Walgreens owns them and is shutting them down in hopes of redirecting traffic to their main site (where stuff costs more). I read someplace that they are going to revamp and add high end stuff. It won’t work on me since I’m already annoyed that my favorite feminine product, which is $6 at the grocery store, cost $28 at Walgreens before they stopped carrying them altogether. CVS has similarly irritated me but I like their cotton rounds so grudgingly support them.
Ah, interesting.
I am interested in the shampoo too..
Yup, MikasMinion is correct: Walgreen’s bought them and doesn’t want the online competition.
The shampoo is Acure Organics Clarifying, which I found at Whole Foods. So far, so good!
So they bought them to eliminate their competition. Ah, the American way.
Thank you Bexca! I have their clarifying conditioner, which also smells like lemongrass, so should have thought of it. Might have to get the shampoo too!
Thanks for the heads up about the stores closing
SOTD is AA Mandarine Basilic, which is perfect for this muggy heat. It does theoretically have a green tea note, although I can’t really smell it.
I like that one a lot for very hot and humid days. You smell great!
TF Noir Pour Femme, even though it’s supposed to be 93 degrees today. And because I failed again at wearing a tea scent, I think I’ll go brew a cup of Providence Perfume Co Brambleberry Rose to make up for it
I love Bramble Rose tea. Thanks for reminding me because I think I still have some left.
You know, I love that perfume, and while you have to be super careful to not overspray*, I think it’s marvelous in the heat.
*tiny fairy spritzes
🙂 “fairy spritzes”
I was going to wear a tea scent but I woke up wanting roses, so today I will wear CdG Grace Coddington followed by SL La Fille de Berlin. With a cup of earl grey, of course!
Those choices all sound perfect!
I am wearing Frederic Malle Carnal Flower. Okland Fresca, THANKS A LOT for sending me this sample. I had never tried it before. Better late than never! This is an absolutely gorgeous and amazing tuberose. I had not tested anything so great for a long time. I could not be happier with a tuberose scent. It is fresh, sunny and flowery. The jasmine note is very noticeable and I do not find it soapy, cloying and heavier like Fracas. It won my heart immediately.
You smell beautiful (although I enjoy Fracas as well).
I wore this last night, great stuff.
One of my all-time favorites! You smell great!
Very hot and humid here, thunderstorms expected this afternoon. Wearing Jour de Fête and drinking Kusmi English Breakfast tea.
almost tea twins here! I snagged some Kusmi Teas for the plane upon leaving the Ritz at an ungodly hour in Montreal last week, but I haven’t tried the English Breakfast yet. I had the linden last night before bed.
You know fall is on the way when Panera brings out their Pumpkin bagels, which is what’s making my mouth jump for joy this very moment!
Pumpkin aside, is still sweltering so I’m in my old faithful Corsica Furiosa. Dare I say it’s perfect…?
Pumpkin bagels??? Yum! Just last year my grocery store started selling pumpkin pasta sauce (limited edition) Sounds inedible but it was delicious!
I’m a pumpkin lover, so that sauce sounds wonderful to me. One year I made a pumpkin praline cheesecake to take to work and it was a huge hit! It may have been the best thing I ever baked. If they sold pumpkin toothpaste, pretty sure I would scoop it up ????
If you ever find pumpkin toothpaste, please get me one too!
Wait! What? Is that a new avatar? ADORABLE!
You may. It’s especially perfect in heat and humidity. I made a real dent in my bottle this summer!
I hesitated purchasing that huge 100ml bottle, but have to say I’ve put a good dent it it as well. I just never get tired of it, day in and day out, every time I spritz it, it just seems to reset and center me in the most beautiful way. Glad you are loving yours as well ????
which parfum d’empire perfumes would you recommend trying? I’ve only smelled and worn musc tonkin, (which I really love) but haven’t discovered the rest of the line.
Cuir Ottoman and Eqistrius are both nice. Good cool weather comfort scents.
I have four from this house: Corsica Furioso, Cuir Ottoman, Tabac Tabou and Musc Tomkin. There are a few others I would like to own as well. They are reasonably priced and long-lasting.
All of those are favorite of mine as well- wish I had bottle of each ????
I enjoyed Ambre Russe a lot – and it would suit Tea Week (and Leather week, and Booze week)
Have we done Boozy as a Friday challenge? That would be rather fun for the less inhibited among us. :^D
I love Corsica Furiosa, Ambre Russe, and Azemour, and I have a shaky but mostly glowing relationship with Tabac Tabou, which to me smells like narcissus, jimson weed, and horses. 🙂
Oh, thanks for bringing up Tabac Tabou! I keep forgetting I have a sample, but I really enjoy wearing it. Now I know what I’ll put on tomorrow.
Corsica furioso sounds wonderful for summer, I love Azemour, must try this one next.
Azemour is wonderful too! The lovely Petunia sent me some- instant love! Sadly, it doesn’t last on me, which is unusual. They are both beautiful in different ways and I could easily understand owning a bottle of each.
I am spending the morning in vintage Bal and shopping my collection to see what I can wear. There are so many that have fallen off of my radar that it’s almost impossible to make a choice. I think that I will stick with my initial choice of vintage Mitsouko. First world problems, I know.
????
That mug. Want! Star Trek TNG was must-watch TV for me and my friends in medical school. All us women had a big thing for Jean-Luc! SOTM is going to be Coco Mlle.
Interesting test of Sofia by Sofia Vergara in Walgreen’s last night (her first scent). It’s like a much less sweet version of LVEB or like Armani Si without the weirdness. Might be a new cheap thrill.
Wearing the last few spritzes of Cristalle that were left in my travel spray. I didn’t have time to refill it this morning so I will refresh later on this afternoon with PdNs Fig Tea.
Tea of the moment is Twinings English Breakfast.
You smell lovely! I almost went with Cristalle today, myself.
Good morning y’all….How can it be Thursday already?
SOTD: Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay. Good stuff indeed! 🙂
I was flipping thru the September Glamour magazine, and there are so many good launches (to my nose, anyway) this fall! Looking forward to trying Stash, Burberry Black, Mon Paris, and the new Chloe flanker…Always something new around the corner to try!
I am really excited to try Stash- I wonder if it would be as good as Boyfriend?
I thought it was more complex than Boyfriend.
Oh! even better!
I really like Boyfriend so that’s good news.
I’m sampling Tea for Two for the first time. I’m loving the spice.
1) ST: TNG was must watch tv in junior/high school- and later on, Voyager and DS9! That mug is EVERYTHING.
2) Tea is Double Spice Chai (Stash Teas) with Almond milk and palm sugar, with tea brewed double strong. Cleaning and packing has worn me out….
3) You know, for a person who swears she does not have a lot of stuff, packing and cleaning seems to take forever.
4) In TF Venetian Bergamont (from a sample) and the last of the Oscar Blandi Jasmin shampoo +conditioner. Not very early fall NOR late summer, but at least another thing I don’t have to pack! 😀
I swear time stops when you’re packing. Grrrr……
Could you downsize to 15 items like this guy?
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/07/fashion/james-altucher-self-help-guru.html?_r=0
I have more than 15 items but at least I don’t hoard cats…
James is a sweet man, but he is a bit extreme! 15 items alone is in my makeup bag!
LOL!
Great article! I once read an online post about minimizing to 100 items and seriously considered trying it but then chickened out! I do love this idea about downsizing, though and I am trying to do so with my perfume collection and clothes …..
SSS Jour Ensoleillé today! I expect it’ll speak up a bit more once I’m outside (it’s going to be humid and sunny today).
LOVE the mug, although I’ve always agreed with Garak’s estimation of Earl Grey . . .
One of my top ten scents of all time 🙂
It’s really nice! It is not, however, quite what I want it to be.
I had the opposite….did not think I would care for it but it was love at first sniff!
I’m getting a jump start on the tea thing today with some AG Mandragore edt. Love it! I only have two other fragrances with a strong tea accord – Dior’s Escale a Pondichery and AG Duel – so I’ll likely wear one of them tomorrow. Or Mandragore again. Tea (after coffee) is lemon balm.
Tackling the sample pile this morning and trying out something I had never heard of…Ebba Miss Marisa tropical. It is very fruity, like a candy. Not my typical fare but it is making me smile so how can that be wrong?
🙂
Trying to convince myself to get moving with a heavy dose of Nishane Wulong Cha from a sample. It’s nice and refreshing for this weird almost misty, very hot oppressive weather. It does smell a bit like tea but probably won’t last long since we are mixing and pouring a concrete curb for the other side of Mom’s cactus garden and I expect to have burned through every good scent in an hour or so. Rebar is done and were about to start my least favorite part – putting up the forms. There will be cursing and probably blood. Oh, did I mention the snout butterfly migration? We will be picking little fluttery bodies off of the concrete and each other. The kitties are enchanted by this phenomenon, though, and the butterflies are pretty when the sun shines and makes them shimmer.
I found that one fine but with no lasting power (on my toxic skin anyway) :^)
Yep. Inside for water and more perfume.
I’d never heard of a snout butterfly ( or your perfume for that matter!). Hope the curb building goes/went well.
They are really very interesting critters and the migratory swarms can be amazing. We called them bulls**t butterflies when we were kids because they tend to hang out on cow patties for moisture and minerals during hot, dry summers. We drove through a heavy patch of them on the highway yesterday and they sounded like big raindrops hitting the windshield, yuck!
trying Cosmos Flower today.
What’s it like? I don’t think Cosmos actually have a scent, but that hardly matters in perfumeville~
very sweet and fruity. as I’ve found with other Clive Christians, it’s lasting on my skin. I haven’t gotten to the dry down, but it’s supposed to be benzoin, caramel, leather.
Interesting. Not the fantasy scents I would associate with Cosmos…. Because they grow so easily around here, I think of gardens and wild flowers….seeds, flowers, and soil… is what I’d associate with Cosmos.
Finally remembered to wear a tea scent today!
Eau Parfumée Au Thé Rouge for me. Needs lots of spraying, but very pretty scent to wear throughout the day.
SOTD – Chypre Palatin.
I have a question for you guys – is Box of Eels supposed to have a lot of musk in it? Someone mentioned that to me and I was surprised because I could not smell it all
I don’t get a lot of musk in BdI. Musk might be used more for its fixative properties than for its smell. Or I could be anosmic to it.
I think sometimes people say “musk” when they mean anything in the basenote family…
Could not smell the perfume or could not smell the musk?
Could not smell the musk 🙂 smelled everyhing else 🙂
Perris Monte Carlo Absolue d’Osmanthe extrait. Another one I’m liking more each time I try it. I’m getting more of the leather facets from it today.
How is Osmanthus there compare to others? I have discovered I really like Osmanthus 🙂
Don’t know if you’ve tried Miyako, but if you like that one, you’ll probably like this. It’s a little softer and smoother.
Miyako is what started the Osmanthus love for me 🙂 ….
Get thee to Eden Botanicals and buy their osmanthus absolute essential oil…you will not be disappointed!
Goodness, I’m Robin’s scent twin! In Memo “Inlé” today.
Top: artemisia, mint, bergamot;
Mid: spices, osmanthus, jasmine and mate;
Base: iris, musk and cedar.
I think or rather hope that this suits Robin better than it suits me. Nothing wrong with it, but it’d definitely “someone else’s perfume” if you know what I mean. Also it doesn’t make me think of a Burmese lake (not that I’ve been within a thousand miles of a Burmese lake. For all I know, they all smell like this. The Burmese are welcome to it).
I was up to 01:00 failing to finalise the meeting pack which in the end went out late morning today, so I am whacked. Meeting itself went fine, so I have a little breathing space to stabilise and work out what I want to do.
Hey twin! I do like the Inle, but don’t adore it — don’t feel any need to buy it. And totally agree, have never been to Burma but it doesn’t smell like an “exotic” scent in any way.
I picked JM Earl Grey & Cucumber for today and it’s just the thing for this gray but soupy weather. Sophisticated? Maybe not. Cool and refreshing? Yes!
EG&C was my favorite when I sniffed the Jo Malones at Heathrow las winter. Nice choice!
Maybe I’ll wear this tomorrow!
I’m a little bit at a loss for this week’s tea challenge. Turns out, I don’t have any perfumes with tea notes. And that’s a great failing. After all, I do love tea. I don’t know. I could go for bergamot to go with an Earl Grey vibe? Or jasmine…
I’m in Arquiste Boutonniere today. Almost getting a gardenia impression from it.
I of course think you smell great 🙂
simply wonderful!
Cierge de Lune on this foggy, groggy morning. It was a good choice — it’s making a little comfort bubble around me.
I’m in Gris Clair today – my friend had to put his dog to sleep, and I wanted something comforting to wear today after I heard the news.
Is summer ever going to end? I am so ready for it to be over. Blerg.
Sorry about your friend’s dog. Double-blergh on the heat we just got back and it’s supposed to last through the weekend and then some – blergh and yuck!
So sorry!
In Scent (Costume National), which is things and tea—this one reminds me of the Diors and I think could easily be in Dior’s line-up of Collection Privée. Annoying name tho.
Scent is a very relaxing, comforting and peaceful floral ambery fragrance. I like it a lot. You smell wonderful!
I’m sampling Lune Feline this morning. So far it’s a musky vanilla, very soft. I’m hoping it will bloom more as it progresses.
I love the cardamon note on Lune Feline. A beautiful vanilla gourmand perfume. You smell fantastic!
And how is its progression?
It expired early after turning into a sweeter vanilla.
Today I’m wearing Dusita’s Oudh Infini, a floral oud that I really like as the oud is really subtle. Yesterday it was MFK’s Grand Soir, a really great unisex amber.
I need to get my hands on MFK Grand Soir!
smallflower.com sells it in sample size and shipping is free.
Perfume. Geisha Vanilla Hinoki. Two spritzes.
Nice avatar! On first glance I thought they were surf boards in the sand. I used to like making leaf collages in the Fall.
Thanks! and me too with the leaf collages. One of my favorite time & place combinations is October in the northeastern US. So many pretty trees.
I have a leaf collage I made when I lived up in Asheville, NC years ago. It’s somewhat faded now but I still love it- it brings back great memories.
I like your new avatar too (but I liked the other one also 🙂 !!)
Thanks, the avatars are fun. I still tickled every time I see your “owl.”
FYI: I got my nose on the new SJP Stash today at Ulta. I quite liked the oil version which seemed more intense to me, but it reminded me of something I couldn’t put my finger on at first.
On the way home, the bell went off in my head and I realized it reminded me very much of Nirvana Black.
Anyone else have a chance to sniff it yet? If so, what do you think…?
Sampling Dusita Issara today (on a break from painting the front door). Very pretty, but the musk drydown is quite sweet. Doesn’t fit my image of a fougere, but maybe I’m confused.
Been away from here for a few weeks but I’m making my way back. I was just overwhelmed with packing and moving and such. And all I wanted to wear was Rossy de Palma. She was giving me life, y’all. But I’ve been moved into my house for about a week and a half now and getting settled in. Had a few mishaps and frustrations to deal with, but I’ll get through it.
And I started tea day a bit early with a combo of Demeter Earl Grey Tea and Honey.
Congrats and have fun with your new abode!
Enjoy you new place!
Congrats on the move, sweetgrass!
SOTD is Elie Saab Le Parfum.
Syfy has a mini-marathon of Star Trek movies on repeat today, and BBC America has TNG on all day–nice!
I’ll have some Earl Grey today in honor of Captain Picard. What I’d really like is another ‘Warp Core Breach’ from Quark’s Bar; alas, that’s no longer possible…
What were those furry ball things that made everyone lovey dovey called….that’s the only Star Trek I can remember. Sorry, but as a kid I found it so boring…maybe not as boring as Bonanza or Petticoat Junction but close. Nice perfume! And sorry to offend Star Trek fanszzzzzzzzz.
They were called Tribbles, I think. Did they make everyone lovey? I don’t remember that bit.
I know it’s freezing (literally) where you are, Kanuka. I worry for the animals, especially the lambs. Be safe and warm on your walk.
The “Trouble with Tribbles” was the episode. I don’t remember them so much for making everyone lovey as them being lovey themselves — breeding faster than rabbits and taking over every space on the ship.
Did you ever see the DS9 episode “Trials and Tribble-ations”? The DS9 crew is inserted into the original episode with a time-travel story.
Tribbles! Yes. Ugh.
I’m not the biggest Trekkie ever, but I am fond of it. Now, on the other hand, if you started dissin’ my Star Wars or BSG… ????
I had a crush on Dirk Benedict way back when ……..
Me too, as I recall. Except because of The A-Team.
I haven’t even figured out what BSG is yet!!! Big Surly Giant? Blazing Saddle Girls? Batman Sings Gerswhin? Give me a clue!!!! Please. Star wars I know…oh, and love!! bahaha.
Battlestar Galactica!
OMG, get the rights to ‘Batman Sings Gershwin’!!! ????
I read “Batman Sings Gershwin” and laughed out loud! Startled the cat right out of her nap.
Hang on a minute…shouldn’t that be BG? Or is that sneaky ‘S’ addition correct in outer space abbreviation language? I’ve never seen it but it sounds wonderful. Is it as good as PNOTA? (PlaNet of the Apes) LOIS? (Lost in Space), LGSR (Logan’s Run)…HAFF (Have a fun friday!)
Umm, I didn’t watch any of the “flankers” of the original Star Trek series.
I did see and like the first of the new movies. It didn’t disappoint in the portrayal of Kirk and Spock. As for Battlestar Galactica I watched only the original TV series in 1978-1979
Oh my gods! OK, so if you liked the Trek reboot…
I vaguely remembered the original series and that I didn’t like it, so I didn’t watch the 2004 reboot when it started. But eventually I caught a few minutes of an episode in the 2nd season. I had absolutely no idea what was going on but I was HOOKED! It’s got politics, spirituality, action, you name it. It’s a space opera!
’33’, the first regular episode (there’s a mini-series before it), is one of the best pilot episodes ever. Watch it, and see if it doesn’t grab you at least a little. I’m willing to bet you’ll like it!
Decided to hold off on Dans le Peau since I can buy it at home. Instead, my birthday presents are things that I haven’t seen in NY or Boston– Black Angel from Mark Buxton and Volkamaria from Weinerblut
Nice! I’ve always admired Buxton’s work. I haven’t heard of Weinerblut, looking forward to your thoughts. Hope you’re having a great time!
I’ll go tea tomorrow, but today it’s vintage Poison EDC courtesy of one of our fabulous NST commenters.
Wow! You smell great! (and are making me feel nostalgic…I wore that one a LOOONGGGG time ago-LOL!)
You smell lovely. I was planning to snag the almost full bottle that has been sitting at the local antique shop forever but they marked it up from $37 to $187 when they re-inked the tag. It had been there for at least two years and I’m reeeaaly kicking myself for being cheap/lazy on previous visits.
Yikes! What a mark up!
Woke up early and wandered through to the kitchen. Caught sight of my dog humping my fake leopard skin coat (which I had left on the arm of the chair). One: my dog is a spayed female. Two: what was she thinking? Little leopardog pups? Little fake fur puppies? Baby coats? So many possibilities…well, not really. Maybe she is a closet furry…I suspect that dogs humping coats doesn’t happen in the Kondo decluttered household. Are dogs allowed in decluttered households?
Tokyo Milk Everything and Nothing lists tea leaves ( jasmine raspberry sweet and bitter tea) So, i am wearing that while I drink my morning black coffee and ponder the wonder of nature
Do you like the scent? I’ve been fascinated by Tokyo Milk for a while, but it’s difficult to get here.
Everything happens in the first few minutes. The tea smells exactly like leaves left in the pot after the cup has been poured. The tea comes through first but quickly fades…not quite to nothing but justa stain. There is a sweet, raspberry note…which others might sense as plum or even jasmine…though the notes on the bottle are sweet orange, pressed petals, desert moss and tea leaves. I find that aspect a bit raspy…so it could be the orange as sometimes that can be quite harsh to my nose. The raspberry/plum/orange does soften and a very faint rose (petal) comes through…a jammy rose petal. But the sweet fruit is the strongest element. Not much tea after ten minutes and I can’t say about the desert moss. I liked Bulletproof better as it was deeper ….but neither perfume has managed to hold my interest. If you like Lolita Lempicka Sweet you might like this one. Not as good as Coco Noir. I think it is quite well made though, having said all that….not like a typical fruity mainstream scent.
Very best of good mornings, days, evenings, whenever. This time difference thing is a real nark sometimes.
So. The dear man and I are off to Wellington today for the most mini of micro-breaks. I am so glad to get away from work and Auckland that I have no words. We’re flying into one of the coldest snaps if the year, and the remnants of a storm that raised 6 metre swells in Cook Strait, but I’m still glad to go. Also, I’m meeting Gaynor for coffee and sniffy stuff, which will be great, and I hope to take in the Gallipoli exhibition at Te Papa. Sing yay for weekends away!
I’m travelling wearing Bois des Iles, because it’s warm and enveloping and complex and just deeply satisfying, so right now I’m trailing clouds of sandalwood glory and Dakkie, who is Deeply Suspicious of the suitcase anyway, is avoiding me because I clearly smell all wrong to him. To me, I smell practically perfect, so too bad.
Your descriptions of your tea scents, by the way, have nearly but not quite convinced me to try the tea note again. I think I have an odd quirk (the dear one has just muttered,”Only one?” but I have kicked his ankle, so don’t worry) in that I don’t mind wearing boozy perfumes and I revel in sweet foody ones, but it seems wrong to smell of tea, because I drink it. Clearly, my nose has a very idiosyncratic logic!
I hope the wind will have died down by the time you land. I am not a tea scent person either. I think tea scents just remind me of tea…so they are too literal in a way. Same with rose scents. Though that’s simplifying things a bit. Have a great time in Smellington. What fun….And hope the Te Papa show is good. And hang onto your hats!
I am wearing Bois des Iles today too. Had to get all my fall and winter scents out yesterday.
Re Dakkie. In my experience, cats behave in one of two ways when the suitcase appears: sit in a far corner muttering to themselves that the servants have gotten too uppity to think they can take days off; or just go and sit in the suitcase to make sure that you don’t forget to take them too.
Sounds like you have a relaxing weekend planned and that you have your husband suitably in line. 🙂 Enjoy.
Dakkie is checking up on EVERYTHING. In his next life, he will be a man in a white coat with a clipboard and an absence of humour. His mother, on the other hand, has disposed herself in the suitcase at different times elegantly, cutely, and vulgarly (on her back, legs apart). So, Izzy, I think, belongs in your second category (I’m just too adorable to be left behind); Dakkie in your first.
First day of a two-week, sorely-needed vacation; after getting my MRI out of the way, my spouse & spent the day thrifting. I scored a full bottle of Anna Sui Original for $3 and wore it home.
As for tea, I’m developing a taste for bottled organic yerba mate infusion. It’s tannic and slightly bitter and tastes great mixed with sparkling quinine tonic water. Plus, it’s said to improve cognitive function, so why not 🙂
And mixing the yerba mate with tonic water means you won’t get malaria either. 😉
I actually make a drink at home that I jokingly call The Cure– tonic, spicy Jamaican ginger beer, lime juice and angostura bitters– takes care of malaria, indigestion, and scurvy in one gulp. 🙂
Sounds delicious!
Good morning all!
Star Trek’s 50th birthday – yikes, how time passes! I knew nothing about it till it rescreened here in the mid 1970s, then I was hooked, my mother too. I took her to the latest movie a few weeks ago, and she got a real kick out of being the oldest person in the audience by decades.
I was very surprised to find how few things I have with a tea note, so in Tea for Two today to celebrate Friday.
Very much looking forward to meeting Waterdragon tomorrow 🙂
Have the bestliest time ever!
Did the Friday project this morning as tomorrow is a no perfume day (training other volunteers to lead workshops). My only tea scent is L’Occitane The Vert which was the SOTRoom. So realistic that I don’t really want to wear it, but I do want the smell around for a while.
SOTD now is Missoni (2006 version). Gorgeously over the top as Maurice Roucel fragrances are. Helps make up for tomorrow.
L’Occitane The Vert is fantastic. So sad it was discontinued but maybe there is hope for a revival!
Oops, forgot to mention earlier that William Shatner fans might be tickled to see him on television in Better Late Than Never. Reality-style travel shenanigans along with Henry Winkler, George Foreman, and Terry Bradshaw. Adorably kooky antics with great tourist-eye-views of Hong Kong, Seoul, Kyoto and more.
Thanks for the alert, tiffanie! I love William Shatner even more than Captain Kirk. He did his one man show in DC last year, and that was more fun than anything I’ve seen in years – funny, touching, and illuminating by turn. Better Late Than Never sounds fantastic!
We’ve been watching this. It has some hysterical moments. The fish pedicure was a hoot!
I forgot to check when that series started–will have to see if I can catch up with my on-demand!
Oooh, I have to check this out. Sounds like fun! I also like your new avatar. So, I originally thought it was a colorful version of Charlie Brown’s shirt, but a closer inspection revealed the leaves!
Sick today so no perfume. Killer sore throat and waves of hot and cold temperatures. So unpleasant.
Yuck, sending Get Well wishes your way????
Feel better soon.
Eeek, sending healing thoughts your way!
Sore throats are the worst. I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you! It’s at it’s most unpleasant phase so I’m just hanging in there. Reading a great book: The Heart goes Last by Margaret Atwood.
Being sick in summer-y weather is the worst. Hope it passes quickly.
Eau de Merveilles today and yesterday because it was quite hot for September and saving the tea scent for tomorrow
You smelled perfect for a hot day in September.
So I wore EL Beyond Paradise for Men yesterday, which Luca Turin liked. The opening was a bit too melony for me to take it seriously. I liked it at some points in its evolution. It ended up as almost a vinyl-like leather. I think this sort of thing is probably better to follow on a scent strip than to wear, when you don’t know if what it’s doing at any given point in time will work with what you are doing.
Today I’m wearing vintage Guerlain Vetiver on one wrist and Annick Goutal (one version prior to the current one) on the other. Love them both. I’d also love to find a vetiver that is more floral than Guerlain Vetiver but without all that white musk in Vetiver pour Elle. 28 la Pausa is the iris version, but I’d like to also have one that is more unisex and not just iris, which tends toward cold/sad.
I never found a perfect floral vetiver either.
You might like trying out Paul Emilien “Une Belle Journee”, although the vetiver is dialled back and the flowers are prominent.
Thank you!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
I took a brief departure from tea perfumes to wear my perdect for any weather spine strengthener. The late-breaking dog and pony show was postponed to TBD – wahoo!
In iother news, I just picked up my Barneys Beauty Bag Event stuff and can’t wait to dig into the goodies when I get home!
Hurrah for the banishment of the dog & pony show!
Enjoy!
That goodie bag sounds aaaaaawesome!
Hooray on both counts!
