Happy Friday, and happy World Elephant Day! Our community project for today is fabulous but fleeting: wear a perfume you love even though it doesn't last as long as it should. Today's project was suggested by Mariann.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am still on vacation, and I packed badly — I'm failing the Friday project for the second week in a row. I'm wearing Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess whipped body cream, which will surely last until I go swimming, and possibly last even through that. I will do better next week.
Reminder: 8/19 will be Perfect Friday — wear a fragrance that is nearly perfect, and tell us how you would change it to make it completely perfect.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Fab and Fleeting:1932
Would be curious to see if many people will be in this one today.
Ah, good choice! I am sure we will see a showing from the Exclusifs in general.
Twins!
That is a great choice and if I had it, I’d be wearing it.
you smell lovely!
Lovely choice, and so apt!
Dying to try this one! I really like their Olive and Sunflower.
1932 is lovely, but even more fleeting than I realised. I accidentally poured most of my sample over myself yesterday, and it still disappeared in no time.
I am wearing Speziali Fiorentini Te Nero, which is kind of like Bulgari Black’s light-hearted sibling. Just a little smoke and a tiny hint of rubber, but plenty of slightly odd vanilla.
I am drinking coffee with coconut creamer in an effort to improve my mood and general drowsiness.
Oh, that’s a nice one. And hope the coffee works!
Hmmm…never tried with coconut creamer. Sounds good though.
My fave non dairy creamer is by nutpods (I know). It is a Almond/coconut milk blend, but I was out so I got this one from Trader Joes. It is okay just a few too many additives for my hippie soul.
1) The fragrance actually sounds rather nice!
2) Am drinking down iced coffee with coconut milk. Very delicious and reviving!
Dying to try this one! I really like their Olive and Sunflower. (reposted as I mistakenly posted above – sorry!)
Ooh! That sounds nice!
There’s a new Coconut Milk Macchiato (I think that’s the name) from Starbucks that a co-worker raved about. I will try it this weekend!
Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat Guerlain.
Well folks, it is that time of the year.
Time for Madonna (next Tuesday) and I (Sunday) , to turn the page on another year. Time flies! 😉

Party hard Bear! Or maybe don’t party too hard?! ????
And happy bday!
Happy birthday in advance, Bear!
Happiest of Birthdays to you!
Happy Birthday, Bear! If you can’t be good, be careful! ????
I didn’t want to do anything fleeting today, so I chose to do the opposite. I’m wearing the fabulous Rien and the nearly as fabulous Rien Intense, which is actually fairly fleeting compared to the original.
Drinking my Gorreana Ponta Branca Orange Pekoe again. This time I got the brewing right, and it’s very lovely.
Mr. Beam and his friend Mr. Daniels are great party companions.
Happiest of birthday wishes.
I think this is meant for Bear?
That was supposed to be for Bear – clumsy fingers
If I were at home and participating in the community project, I would be spoilt for choice, as I have many if the Hermessences either in FB or 15ml travel size. So today my alter ego is wearing Hermès “Vetiver Tonka” and probably just crossed over from loving it to lamenting it.
Here in hot, sunny Málaga, SOTD is Linari “Mare Pacifico”. On me it’s a fresh green scent. I don’t really get the seaside vibe that other reviewers describe, for good or ill. It’s not performing very well either, even with re-application, so it will qualify for ‘fleeting’ but ‘fabulous’ is really pushing it. :^)
The upside is, this will wear off fairly soon and I can try something else.
Ha!
I didn’t follow the challenge today, but wearing Ambre Nuit again over a little of the leftover Oud Ispahan from last night. Delicious. 🙂
mmmmmmmm. great choice(s).
You smell wonderful – two favorites.
Most Demeters are the very definition of fleeting so I chose probably my favourite of all of them, Gingerale. It actually smells carbonated! I brought my bottle to work and had a co-worker try some on, and she had what’s almost the universal reaction: she laughed out loud in amazement. It lasts probably twenty minutes, but maybe that’s enough.
I think you’re bang on with your choice for today. And Gingerale is pretty awesome. (Yeah, I laughed out loud at it too.)
Honestly, it’s joyous. It’s so simple and so delightful.
I wish Demeter would do a whole line of carbonated beverages. Cola, root beer, cream soda, lemon-lime, orange, grapefruit (how I love Fresca!): I’d buy them all.
You’ve just triggered a Fresca + vodka craving and a trip to the Demeter website. Luckily, I have neither beverage so should be better able to exercise restraint.
The only Demeter I own, it’s always good for a smile.
I have a headache today and wasn’t planning to wear anything, but think some Gingerale would be perfect! Off I go to spritz!
Happy Friday everyone!!
SOTD: Britney Spears Island Fantasy. This is such an easy summer scent…a beachy fruit cocktail (with the little umbrella and coconut shell container, if you please), but it only lasts an hour or two! Fast and fleeting….just like summer itself! 🙂
I can’t remember if I tried Island Fantasy, but it sounds fun.
I wore 28 La Pausa for the project earlier, although when I spray very liberally, it does in fact stick around.
But I’m in Velvet Gardenia now, as I’ll be on my way to the Proms in 10 minutes. I’m going to be on the Eurostar train, wearing a floor-length black lace gown, full evening makeup and crystal earrings, as I have not time to change in London (I’m sitting like that in the office at the moment:)). Well, I can take the earrings off, I guess.
So looking forward to the weekend across the channel.
Thanks for posting whilst wearing a lace gown, full make up and being on a train platform! I am sure you look stunning.
True glamour – they should make a Eurostar advert about you. And the Proms, how fabulous! Have a wonderful time!
Just beautiful. Have a great weekend.
I’m thinking that you look and smell absolutely beautiful 🙂
Riding the train fully decked out sounds like fabulous fun. Have a great weekend!
Sounds like the only elegant way to travel…
It sounds totally fantastic! Your clothes sound amazing & gorgeous!!! Have a fun trip on the train!
WOW! You look very glamorous, like out of a old 1930s film where the heroine is a society girl working a job and wears her best for business wear….
And yes, 28 La Pausa is fleeting- I classify as a cuddle scent more than anything.
Sounds like you’ll be the best dressed! Have fun!
you smell lush.
Public transport can always use more glamour. I love seeing people out in formal attire/costume/stage makeup/dance wear. Makes life more fun!
So true!
Bon voyage!
Now I’m going to have to google The Proms. Have fun!
Have a great time at the Proms!
And thanks for classing up my day with the mental image of you dressed up in your office and posting on NST. You are absolutely fabulous! ????
New York feels like a concrete swamp today. I live for spring and fall in this city, but summer can be awful, and this month in particular has been atrocious.
I basically doused myself in Chanel Eau de Cologne from a VERY generous NSTer, and I actually could smell it as I walked to the subway in the oppressive heat. Definitely improved the walk. I’m in blessed, blessed air-conditioning now, but the bottle is in my bag and I intend to spray again in an attempt to survive the ride home.
Scent twins! Your fellow commuters probably enjoyed the bright scent in the crush of steaming humanity. Stay safe in the heat.
You both smell great! That is my mother’s favorite Chanel!
Thank you!
Thank you!! I’m trying.
You smell great. Beautiful cologne.
Thanks dear!
I know how hot it is here – I can only imagine how bad it is in the city. Last night we actually broke down and installed our window a/c – we’ve been in our house for 5 years and have NEVER had to do that yet! It is awful!
Weren’t you complaining about the long, rainy winters a few short weeks ago? 😉
With apologies, I think I am teasing the wrong person. . . Sorry!
No…I’d be complaining about the long freezing snowy winters. 😉
Woooow. But this does make me think I should consider moving to where you live!
I was wondering when I’d see the first EdC pop up on here! I’m holding a count between that and Cristalle for today ;). You smell lovely.
Oh goodness, after having heat stroke in NY when I saw RH in concert I do not envy New Yorkers in the summer. It’s brutal there! You’re basically in a radiating brick oven! Hope you can stay cool.
Thank you!
It always perplexes me why anyone visits New York in the summer unless they absolutely have to (Radiohead qualifying as an absolutely-have-to situation in my view). Spring = gorgeous. Fall = stunning. But summer can be absolutely oppressive, as much as I love my city, and this has been among the most oppressive in my years of living here.
Payback for the last few summers, which seemed to be much lower humidity than usual… Take heart! It is mid August, so we know the end is nigh.
From your lips to God’s ears.
you smell refreshing!
Why thank you madame!
It’s been a swampy summer in downtown Montreal as well this year, not enjoying it. Today is mercifully cool, I am loving it, but sadly it won’t last.
If it were like summer as it ought to be in August I would have worn Honore de Pres Honore’s Trip, which lasts 2 minutes but it is a gorgeous citrus. Or Fils de Dieu which doesn’t really last on me, or Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche which is fleeting too.
But as it is still chilly here I find comfort in Tauerville Rose Flash, forgot to put the body oil on which would have made it even more rosy.
Rose Flash body oil sounds lovely!
SOTD; Tom Ford Sahara Noir. It’s longevity is equivalent to a lightening bolt; it makes it’s noise and promptly dissapears. Sad as it’s the perfect incense for me (until i can convince Cire Trudon to make an edp version of the Spiritus Sancti candle). I literally get about 20 minutes of sweet sticky frankincense and then i feel like i’m not wearing anything at all.
I’d like to see an edp version of that candle, too. It’s my favorite if their collection. Though, I’d wear a room spray version of it since they don’t seem to plan in making personal fragrance.
that’s a bummer it doesn’t last on you! but you smell great either way.
I get a little more out of Sahara Noir by spraying it in my hair and a little on clothing, too.
Two fleeting fragrances today….Bath and Body Works Fig and Brown Sugar body wash which does linger for a while apres shower and Jo Malone Lime Blossom on my wrists…the rest of me is covered in Assam of India and how befitting with the elephants on the bottle…ironically I am wearing my elephant shirt today and I did not even know it was Elephant Day 🙂
Happy Friday y’all!
Lovely scent combining. You smell great.
Thanks, Wendysue!
Oh and I just bought a yoga mat which has an elephant on it 🙂
Sounds fun, but watch out or people will start buying you elephant figurines, tea towels etc, until you become overwhelmed. Happened to a friend of mine with frogs. 🙂
LOL! yes this was the case several years ago when I was obsessed with owls!
OMG, I am obsessed with owls as well. You, me and bookgirl! Pssst, I have more owl items than perfume bottles 🙂
And the Berthoud Barn Owls square dancers. My Morris side rents their space (upstairs over a laundromat) for practice and it has more owls than the wizard post office.
You smell like a perfect summer hug, honestly!
🙂
I’d say any of the Jo Malone scents qualify for today’s project.. I love many but they just don’t last!
Depending on which ones some of them get great longevity on my skin (like Pom Noire or Dark Amber and Ginger lily) but others don’t…..
Finally is Friday! I am wearing the terrific, amazing, fabulous… but unfortunately the most fleeting perfume in the world: Chanel No. 28 La Pausa. I adore, love, dream and enjoy this scent immensely for the fraction of the second it lasts. I hope that someday my dreams come true about this gem…..
It will be interesting to see if the EDP formulation improves on the longevity of La Pausa. I suppose there is little chance it will smell
the same.
I was wondering the same thing.
That is what I fear…..
Probably the sine qua non of fleeting but fab…
Yup. About to go drain my bottle (almost empty anyway) in hopes of getting an hour of scented bliss.
On Sunday I spent down my rubles (vs. taking a serious hit changing them back to dollars) on a small FB of 31 rue Cambon at the Chanel boutique at SVO before flying back to the States (and missing the Delta computer chaos by hours, thank goodness). I really wanted another FB of 28, but swerved at the last second toward something that lasts markedly longer on me.
31rc is always so lovely plus it’s coming up to a good time of the year to wear it.
I am so envious. I love 31RC but missed out on the small bottles and it lasts long enough that I really, really can’t justify a huge jug of it.
I love 31RC and need only 3 spraya to last all day! It’s 8 sprays for La Pausa.
Twins. Lavishly spraying 8 sprays from a bottle last all day on me.
I wish I were as fortunate as you are with the lasting power of La Pausa. I can bath on it and but it doesn’t last more than 2 minutes on me. So sad…
I wanted to wear Brin de Reglisse but I’d have to bring the bootle along with me to refresh and it is too hot for that. Therefore, Vintage Miss Door parfum. Galbanum, moss, then pffft.
Not that I don’t believe you, but if you put “vintage”, “Dior”, and “parfum” together, you’d expect the result to be “lasts until kingdom come”. You must have some interesting body chemistry!
Or age has messed with the Miss Dior, that’s possible too.
Nothing fleeting today – Lonesome Rider is my co- pilot.
No, that’s definitely not fleeting. ????
Still in Bois de Violette myself – I started yesterday with about half of the 5ml decant sprayer, and I’ve just sprayed the last drop! It should last me, oh, another couple of hours.
I used to think I was insensitive to violets in general, something that I understand quite a few people share. But Kerbside Violet lasts a good long while on me. Also I can smell real violets (I have a wild clump of them poking out of my garden wall, they smell fantastic actually). So I’m back to blaming Mr Serge.
I think I am insensitive to violets. Bois de Violette I cannot smell at all. Never tried Kurbside Violet though.
Sous le Toit de Paris is a violet that lasts forever on me. I have to be really in the mood before wearing it, because there is no going back.
Thanks! Adding it to the “to try” list.
It’s one of my favorite perfumes so I have no complaints about its tenacity!
That is a wonderful violet fragrance. I really liked that one a lot and it is definitely fleeting – or at least it was on me.
You smell beautiful in BdV. Such a pretty one.
I love BdV–it lasts 5-6 hours on me though everything after the first hour or so is pretty sheer and close to the skin. You smell fantastic!
Violets growing out of a wall! My gardening self is so jealous!
I’m in the only clean laundry scent I like, Cacharel Noa, which is evaporated or squelched to a whisper in this heat and humidity after only an hour.
You smell pretty fab though- such a pretty one.
Thank you! I tend to neglect this one and I’m always so pleased when I wear it. I need to drag it out more often. And spray lavishly.
Love love love Noa and must have drained at least 5 bottles in my lifetime from the time it first came out…ironically I could never smell it on me even with the first spritz but I always wore it as it garnered me numerous compliments especially from youngsters who always told me that I “smelled good” whenever I wore it…you smell great, Elisa!
and as I am re-reading my comment I am wondering why I loved it so if I could never quite smell it on myself…must have been all of the compliments I got whenever I wore it 🙂
Heehee! Good question????. The first time I ever tried it I couldn’t smell anything, but probably too many competing smells in the store. The 2nd time same thing, but after I left I kept getting little whiffs of something nice and wondered where it was coming from. It’s a little ghost of a perfume and it doesn’t smell quite like perfume. It smells like an ambience.
I sprayed my clothes today so that helped keep it around longer. No comments on it yet, though.
YOu are spot on…it IS like a ghost of perfume and you do get little whiffs of it from time to time…comments are coming from me…you smell great!
“little ghost of a perfume”……”like an ambiance”…. Next time I see this at T J Maxx (I think I did) I’m snapping it up.
I’m wearing Baiser Vole for the first time, so I have no idea if it fits the Friday project or not. It’s very pretty so far, although rather sweet.
That’s a pretty one. It has good longevity on me.
Baiser Vole goes for daaaaaaayyyyyysssss when I wear it. It’s as if the scent takes up residence in my head and won’t make room for anything else.
I find BV very cloying and so, of course, it lasts one million years on me
I am wearing Chanel Misia today. It is fleeting on me to some degree, but I still love it. I just spray again and again as the day goes on.
you smell great.
You smell lovely.
I’m in fabulous but fleeting Burning Leaves by CB I Hate Perfume. And yes, the spirit of summer is not very strong where I am.
I wore another CB I Hate Perfume — Wildflower Honey, which, on me, disappears almost immediately. it may be my nose that is to blame, though.
I really liked Burning Leaves. One of my favorites from what I tested from the line.
Considering the heat and humidity this year, we can box some up and send it to you!
I was going to wear La Pausa for a second day in a row. That was my plan.
However, my beautiful black bottle of Alaia was staring me in the face this morning. I couldn’t resist, so its Alaia today for me.
You smell amazing!
You smell great!
I am wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie for today’s challenge. In parfum strength, no less. Still fleeting.
Wow, I thought Cuir de Russie was one of those things last last until the following day! It’s still beautiful while it lasts, thought. The top notes especially.
Not on my skin, unfortunately 🙁
I thinks really strong longevity if you hate it. If you like, minimal longevity 🙂
🙂
One hour later, cuir de russie has totally lost to the faint remainings of yesterday’s Debaser on my jacket
Fleeting CDR must be the epitome of the word “bummer”!! (Have you tried the EDT for comparison? Sometimes EDTs can actually last longer.)
I’m in the lovely (and fleeting) Carthusia Mediterraneo today, and plan to take the bottle with me for re-spritzing. Wow, my spellchecker gave me heck on that – isn’t “re-spritz” a word? Happy Friday, everyone!
Yum, you smell fantastic!
Of course it is. Stupid spellchjeck.
😀
Arlesienne by L’Occitane for me. Or as I like to call it: Budget Misia. I can make it last a little longer with the lotion and shower gel.
You smell great! I actually like it better than Misia-it has a bit more oomph to me, and lacks the waxiness of Misia. I only have the shower cream, but I’ve washed my hair with it before and the scent lingers for a while.
Agreed with Arlesienne being better than Misia (ha! so much for price tags!)
Love Arlésienne. I got the body lotion and the oil at the Occitane Sale in July.
Thanks for the tip…always like to hear about less expensive versions…..
I’m in spritzes of Vanille Galante today and hope its icy spurts keep me cool until I get to the car. I hardly remember how long this lasts – I have the 15ml travel and I tend to save it since it’s not FB. So I’m kinda excited to take VG out for a whirl!
You smell fabulous. Vanille Galante is just the thing to keep cool and comfy.
Totally forgot today and put on some generous amounts of Beloved. Then I was excited to see Byredo in Space NK and so added Rose of No Man’s Land and some Gypsy Water on my right hand- fair to say my scent is holding on today!
Love Beloved, although fleeting is not quite how I would describe it. I tried the Byredo Rose the other way, perfectly nice, but not nice enough for that amount of money.
I keep on trying to decide- it’s an odd one on me which today is really nice and other days less so. Also Gypsy Water seems to be more noticeable, maybe both are better in the heat.
I think it was discussed on here a week ago or so in one of the comments and I saw it in a nice shop in Antwerp so gave it a try. I’m not at all familiar with the line (have only tried this Rose and Pulp). I think the name is great though.
More of an Amouage person myself I think.
I’m enjoying my sample of CdG Luxe Champaca – for less than half an hour per application.
That’s a nice one. I think I still have a sample somewhere. I recall it being a bit short-lived.
En Passant for me. Trying to make it last a big longer with some lilac body lotion underneath. I should head out into the swamp weather here…this fragrance seems to require heat to bloom.
Brilliant choice and beautiful perfume
Thanks for the “bloom” tip. 🙂
SOTD to beat the truly awful heat – even up here in the mountains! – is Annick Goutal Le Chevrefeuille. Lovely and fleeting.
My first Goutal, and my first niche purchase. Such a lovely summery perfume.
Pretty and refreshing. I had a sample last sumner and used almost the entire thing for one application!
That’s a pretty one! I got it when it first came out and drained it pretty quickly!
Twins! I’m wearing that right now, a little touch of sunshine on a wet and dull morning. I love Chèvrefeuille, but it is certainly fleeting.
It does smell like sunshine!
But SO lovely while it lasts 🙂
On purpose, my midsummer fragrances tend to be ‘fleeting.’. I can’t bear to wear anything heavy or perfumey once the heat/humidity arrives, plus my many outdoor summer activities have me showering and changing clothes – and scents – quite frequently, so ‘fleeting’ is a blessing at this time of year, not a problem.
So I’ve reversed the challenge for today and am wearing a fabulous – but lasting – summer fragrance, Hermes Eau des Merveilles. I can put this on once a day and still catch whiffs of it long after, even through high heat and humidity. Love it, love it, love it.
Wonderful scent, and though it does stick around, does not choke or suffocate. Wonderful choice.
I’m joining you in EdM. I love it love it love it, too! All day long 😉
I had intended to spritz MFK Aqua Universalis, but sprayed the Forte version in error, so I only get a half point
But you smell good, so all is well.
Once again, I had good intentions, I planned on wearing Commodity Mimosa. My mood got the better of me, and I’m wearing JHaG Mad Madame, layered over some bergamot body oil. A better mix than you would think, really.
That sounds like it would work pretty well. I bet you smell great!
Happy Friday and happy elephants day! Noble and majestic mammals who are so badly treated by their human cousins.
Am in Rive Ambre, which is citrusy, herbally and gorgeous and has the half life of a fruit fly. I have a couple of samples from a very handsome and sweet salesperson from Nordstrom’s, but even drenching myself in the scent does not keep the scent around for more than a couple of hours. It does not even become a salty skin scent (which I find happens with La Pausa) but just fades.
As I have said previously regarding this- this is a very lovely scent for men and women, but I could not endorse spending $220+ on a bottle. This is for those people who like spending that type of money just because they simple can.
Oh I would like to be one of those people 🙂
I have better luck with Rive. It’s great on hot days.
My scent-glue skin doesn’t understand this assignment. What is this thing called fleeting? I guess I only get half credit for fabulous. Scent of my vacation– Guerlain French Kiss
I was amazed at Jour d’Hermes as well. Lovely bright floral top and middle that lasted quite awhile — then a gardenia base note (!!) that lasted forever. Forever being overnight.
The Jour d’Hermes comment was meant for Jenkr below. Sigh, befuddled morning.
What I meant to say to you was that I too have scent-glue skin. Citrus top notes will disappear after awhile, middle notes last quite long, and bases last forever, ie overnight.
I haven’t tried the apparently well named En Passant, but even Apres l’Ondee had a reasonable (not endless) lasting power.
Heeelllllllooooo lovelies!
Missed you guys. Waylaid by the good, bad, and ugly for several weeks, it is great to read what everyone is up to in the perfumishere. My favorite fleeting may be En Passant, but this cool grey day is not putting me in the mood for it. Brin de Reglisse is giving me come hither eyes….
Good bad and ugly is my theme for this year! I hope you are doing better!
I’ve had way way worse years, but I’ve definitely been muttering under my breath ‘what goes down must come up’ lately. (Its physics, right? 😉 )
I got you covered in En Passant. Can you send Karl the Fog our way please? Just for a little while. It is hot fog here….
Ah. And now the sun is out. Love En Passant! Bet you get a compliment today…
Hi Oakland Fresca! I’m so glad to see you back here!
Good to see you back.
I finished off my Jour d’Hermes sample today. There wasn’t much in it, but I’m somehow amazed at how long it’s lasted in this swampy weather today.
Oops. I accidentally posted my reply about Jour d’Hermes longevity under an above post by thegoddessrena.
I’m fab and fleeting in Lys Mediterrannee, which I don’t think is spelt quite right but I’m in a hurry!
Quite close actually, just one “n” too many, and short of 2 accents. 😉
You smell wonderful, and that is the main thing.
Great choice but I hope it lasts a little longer than fleeting! It’s always a pleasure to reapply though.
You smell lovely. This lasts on me, so sad it doesn’t on you.
Ethereal SOTD is Apres L’Ondee. Lovely and fleeting. Happy Friday All!
Scent twins!! It is soooo fleeting…like a beautiful dream.
I remember putting on Apres l’Ondee but I must have been dreaming as there is no earthly evidence of it.
I just reapplied. I chucked the entire bottle in my purse this morning. It is lovely while it lasts.
Hah! Last week I was carrying a small decant in a screw-top atomizer. It unscrewed at some point, and I kept thinking I was smelling something beautiful…weirdly similar to Apres l’Ondee…until I realized what was going on, and by then it was too late, too late. The decant was empty.
Oh no. I hope your bag wasn’t ruined but what a way to go! 🙂
It’ll be interesting to see if your bag holds the scent longer than your skin. 🙂
Oddly enough, I’m one of the lucky ones, and couldn’t think of a single scent that doesn’t last all day on me. However, I think I remember Marni Spice losing some of its excitement partway through, so I went with that. So far, though, smellin’ great!
Wearing La Colle Noire today. I used the Lush Turkish Delight shower smoothie and Ro’s argan body conditioner so I wanted to stick with the rose vibe.
I have also discovered that a lot of perfumes that last all day on me are fleeting on others. so interesting!
Same here. I wonder if it is our skins or our noses?
And the other way around 🙂
I really like the Turkish Delight. I only have a sample so I use it as a facial cleanser. Very hydrating. I can smell it for quite a while afterwards-probably because it’s on my face.
Sounds like you’re in rose heaven ????
Wore that to bed last night, lovely stuff!
I cheat and don’t wash off Ro’s. Its longevity is off the charts! But I love it ????
You smell lovely.
Chanel Exclusif La Pausa…beautiful but very fleeting.
But beautiful. I have to feel grown up to wear it for some reason. True of all Chanels.
So many choices :). In Bergamoss today.
PSA Costco online has some really good deals on Hermes and couple of other designer fragrances. You have to be a member to even see a price thou
My god, Costco is selling designer fragrances now 🙂 What don’t they sell?
Bergamoss lasted all of 5 minutes on me. Great pick.
Costco is dangerous territory…
Oh yes. So true.
Oh I’m lucky as Bergamoss lasts a decent amount of time on me. You smell amazing.
My birthday is tomorrow and I received an early birthday present from my oldest son who lives across the country. It was a bottle of Tom Ford’s new Orchid Soleil…the first time I have received a bottle of fragrance from anyone for many decades.
Happy Birthday Filomena! I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow!!
Thank you Petunia!
What a terrific and thoughtful gift from your son!
Yes it was!
HBD! What do you think of it?
I know it received bad reviews but I like it.
me too, I think it is quite pretty! great gift! 😀
I agree!
Happy Birthday to you, and what a thoughtful gift from your son! Extra special to wear something given to you by a loved one.
Yes, I am enjoying it!
Happy Birthday! So happy you received such a great and thoughtful gift
Thank you!
How sweet of him! Happy Birthday! I haven’t seen that one in stores yet-though I haven’t searched too hard. I’m curious to smell that one.
Happy birthday. I still haven’t trained my family to gift me scent or gift cards to perfume places (with the exception of my husband, who just wraps whatever I’ve purchased for myself) but I am encouraged by your success.
It was a first for me in many decades!
Happy birthday!
Thanks.
Happy Birthday, Filomena!
Many happy returns and wishing you a wonderful birthday weekend. I think a fragrance gift from a son is truly special and sweet, enjoy!
Happy birthday for tomorrow! What a lovely present.
Happy Bday! I had to ask for a sample of OS after smelling it. Haven’t tried it yet, but pretty sure I’m going to love it. There are only a few Tom Ford’s I don’t like. ????
Kafka did a review of it and dampened my spirit 🙁
P.S. Hope you adore it! What a sweet son!
Happy birthday! And what a great gift your son gave you!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day tomorrow!
None of Ellena’s creations have any staying power on me, so I picked one of my London acquistions. I’m wearing 16 sprays of Osmanthe Yunnan and can smell the tea for the first time ever.
You smell wonderful.
Ha! I knew one of Ellena’s fancy bottled air creations would make the list. That one is definitely apt for today’s challenge. I could never really smell the tea note unless I stuffed my nose in the bottle.
Great choice. It is beyond beautiful but for me it became such a frustrating experience that I had to give it away.
😉
16 sprays – ha! So true with his stuff.
I spray it on my shirt. Then it’s more of an experience
And I thought more of us would be wearing this one!
You smell beautiful.
Twins! I was thinking of this one, but since I have been unable to smell it at all, I couldn’t refer to it as “fabulous” or even “fleeting.” However, since I just came home drenched in sweat from an unexpected outdoors adventure, I figured I’d try a spritz before showering again. Oh! I got it! How lovely! And whoops … four sprays gone in half an hour.
I was wearing Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte. It’s quite a bit like Chamade to my nose but slightly different. After an hour and a half, it’s gone. I wish Chanel made this to last a lot longer to make it bottle worthy for me but they don’t. So now I am sitting in vintage L’Heure Bleue. I’m not sure how vintage my bottle is but I’m happy to have found it for the price I paid for almost an ounce actual vintage parfum.
Regardless of the ‘vintage’ question, you smell fantastic.
I enjoy fleeting fragrances and often prefer them, especially in warmer weather. On deck for today:
Morning = Chanel Eau de Cologne
Afternoon = Iris Ukiyoe
Evening = Eau de Guerlain
Bedtime = Vanille Galante
Everyone have a happy fleeting and fabulous Friday!
Love your choice for the evening.
Thank you, austenfan, I think Eau de Guerlain is wonderful. If I spritz heavily I get a bit of a lemon candy note that is delicious and still refreshing.
Great line up! I guess if you’re doing to do fleeting, reapplying is the way to go.
And I’ve literally lined them up here on my desk for today. I’ve done two of the four fleeting scents so far. It’s fun to refresh often, something I don’t usually do.
I like this approach!
Thanks! 😀 And so far my nose isn’t overwhelmed.
Great! With fleeting scents, you can have a whole lineup!
The fabulous fleeting team is batting .1000 today. Just spritzed my third scent.
A perfume playlist! Love it!
I do not do fleeting. It just ticks me off to purchase perfume, no matter how good it is, for it to disappear. I could probably dig up a sample that would be in the fleeting category, but can’t be bothered.
Today I went with Juste Un Reve. It’s not a powerhouse of a scent, but it certainly lasts a good part of the day.
Happy Friday!
Acqua di Giò today. I remembered it as less tenacious as it’s being today. . . Last time I wore it, it seemed to disappear about three hours in, but it’s holding on longer today.
In Paprika Brasil today from a sample. This one is growing on me, but there are other Hermessences that I like more. I split an Hermessence travel set last month, and bought the Cuir d’Ange and the Vetiver Tonka. I LOVE both!
I like the ones you bought better too!
Wearing Amouage Lilac Love, which really blooms in the heat despite having no lilac in it at all! Have a great weekend y’all!
I am so behind that I haven’t even investigated, much less smelled, Lilac Love. If it doesn’t have lilac I might just skip it altogether.
And you have a great weekend too!
Yup, I’m still finding samples from two years ago. Lilac Love is quite good, essentially an abstract of the color lilac rather than the scent. But at that price…….yikes!
I am wafting the gorgeous 8 spray La Pausa, a great lead in to the weekend. I know I’ve complained everyday about the heat and humidity, here I am doing it again because it kinda takes over one’s life even just for however long it takes for you to get from Point A to Point B. Stay cool everyone!
How did your presentation go yesterday?? Hang in there with the nasty weather.
Let’s just say I could have used a vat of No. 19. There’s Parts 2 and 3 on Tuesday and Wednesday. I may have to be monogamous with No.19 for the next week or so. Thanks for asking!
A presentation trilogy? Oof. Well, that’s 1 down, then…
Maybe they should change the name to 8 La Pausa….
Started the day in Le Labo Vanilla whatevernunberitis, freshened up with Florida Water after the gym, am now wearing Cuir de Russie, and will wear some Vol de Nuit Parfum this evening. I like wearing fleeting scents, being an indecisive person.
That’s a nice collection of choices for a day.
Yay! for fleeting scents. 😀 They make me happy.
My most heartbreakingly short-lived scent is Holy Champa, a floral incense that Mark Buxton made for the French clothing company Antoine et Lili years ago. So good, for about 30 minutes.
I am now wearing Tauer Une Rose Chyprée to console myself.
Oh gosh, I vaguely remember that but never smelled it.
Happy Friday, NST!
My Fabulous But Fleeting scent for today is the one that started me down the rabbit hole of perfumistahood: *the reformulated version* of Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT–the very last wheeze of a spritz that I own.
I had an original 2004 bottle from the UK, before it was available in the US, which was glorious and long lasting. But it was clearly reformulated in recent years, and the result (a) smelled slightly different and (b) completely disappeared in under 2 hours! The reviews on the Sephora website at the time agreed. I don’t know if it’s been remedied since then…
It makes me so sad. It’s a frakkin’ crime!!!
Sorry 🙁
I guess I find it such a bummer because I have strong good memories associated with it. At least I can still sniff the original bottle!
I bought a bottle for my Mom a couple of years ago and it lasts very well on her. She becomes (even more) anosmic to it fairly quickly but everyone else can smell her lovely sillage all day. Maybe the problem has been corrected? It’s worth a tip to Sephora if you happen to be nearby.
Glad to hear it works well for your mom! I actually tested whether it was anosmia by asking my mom to sniff it on me, since she knows how it smelled before, and she couldn’t pick up any traces either. Plus, it didn’t even last on clothing! I tried the EDP in Sephora awhile back, and it disappeared, too. [sigh] I’ll just keep testing it out in store from time to time…
Great postcard image! I keep expecting one of my great grandfather’s postcards to come up (GW Morris publishing). His company put out many scenic postcards of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont during that era. He did all of the photography and had them printed in Germany.
Today I put on a little “what they do in paris is secret” but it is fading just in time for when I will wash it off anyway. It’s in the upper 90’s here and super humid, so I’m holed up in the rooms that have air conditioning. Seems like even the fleeting scents last awhile on me in this heat.
Enabler alert: There is a 30% off deal at STC for selected frags. The code is 30percent.
Also, there are several Floris EDTs, EDPs, soaps and shaving things available on Hautelook at a deep discount. I’m looking at picking up some more of their soaps. The Edwardian Bouquet soaps my husband gave me are so creamy and indulgent, and the scent is so beautiful.
Sanjini, I saw your post about your poor kitty earlier in the week. Best of luck to you both with her diagnosis.
Thanks Jalapeño. We’re just getting the hang of doing the injections and she seems to be a little better.
Sajini, how cool! I was thinking today of my grandmother’s playing card collections and wishing I still had them. Do you have copies of your grandfather’s postcards?
forgot all about this and put on the less than fleeting but certainly fabulous and elephant themed: kenzo jungle l’elephant! good fit with this impossibly rainy, windy day. Since I babysat my niece who suddenly decided she hated her snack, I also probably still smell a bit like mango puree!
What a good aunt ????
she’s lucky she’s so cute! 😀
8 sprays of Le Jardin de Monsieur Li – it’s fabulous!
Yum 🙂
Since I’m not going out until this afternoon, I first spritzed Demeter Gingerly, which lasted under an hour. I’m now in Hermes Vanille Galante, and might try a third perfume if it’s gone by my departure time.
My choice is Eau du Sud, which is a great wake-up perfume that comes with the bonus that if I spray it on to get me going in the morning, I can usually put on whatever I like a few hours later. 🙂
Eau du Sud lasts fairly well on me, but I tend to spray it on the back of my neck and hair. This will be my seasonal fav later in August and in early September once the humidity drops.
FYI, I came across this interesting profile of the Lauder family and businesses. It mentions their acquisition of By Kilian, Le Labo, Frederic Malle and other niche lines, comparing this to Leonard H. Lauder’s interest in collecting and presenting fine art:
“In his home or office he likes to arrange works so that ‘the art of the pictures talk to each other, because they feel comfortable in their environment.’ He sees his role in the company now in similar terms. ‘I do things today because I know they will increase family harmony today,’ he says. ‘Or prevent incidents of disharmony tomorrow.’
“Taking the analogy a little further, one could argue that the company acquires beauty brands with similar curatorial skill, choosing little treasures of the luxury market that possess similar DNA—that talk to each other—and that the company then nurtures to market leadership (most recently Rodin Olio Lusso, Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, and Kilian Hennessy’s By Kilian).”
As evidence of the Lauders’ continued “familiness” approach to management, the article also notes that “After the attacks in Paris, William [Lauder] and Leonard [Lauder] got in touch with Fabrice Penot [founder of Le Labo] independently, offering support for his Paris staff and a local security team in case anyone felt unsafe.”

Thank you — sounds fascinating and will read it this weekend.
I forgot, I do have one fleeting scent — Andy Tauer’s Cologne du Maghreb. It’s all natural so I give it some leeway and even Andy suggests that it works well if you spray on your top. It was free in a giveaway so I really can’t complain.
Meanwhile the SOTD is Eau d’Hadrien. Refreshing but not overwhelming on transit.
For today’s challenge I dug out my sample of Parfumes d’Empires Equistrius. Ironically today is the first time it actually has decent longevity on me.
I just fell for this one. Haven’t tested enough to get a sense of longevity.
Did you get it at Fumerie Parfumerie?
That’s where I realized how good it was and the lovely guy there gave be a sample. I bought Arso. ????
If it helps, It’s quite long lasting on me. I’ve never tried it in hot weather, though.
Late today as usual. Wearing the refreshing Corsica Furiosa today, which lasts longer on me than it seems to on others. And it is perfect for the horrid swampy weather.
Giving myself partial credit for today’s project. Like thegoddessrena, eleebelle, lindaloo, and a couple of other folks, I have scent-glue skin.
So I went with something fabulous: CdG’s Carnation. Hajusuuri’s comments about it piqued my interest, so I picked up a sample. I don’t know if enabler pins are given out for samples, but if they are, she gets one for this.
LOL – maybe if you got a ginormous “sample”. Did it last on you? I could have worn this today as it meets the fleeting and fabulous criteria for me 🙂
Not a ginormous sample, alas. It seems to be scarce as hens’ teeth now. But it lasted between 5 – 6 hours on me, which is far better than the Incense series.
Sampling HdP 1899 today. Not fleeting but pretty fabulous. The dry down is so familiar but I can’t put my finger on it. Drives me nuts when that happens.
Hotlanta has been more than living up to its name lately so I’ve been liberally spritzing the original fleeting but fabulous–4711. Refreshing, but lasts about as long as it takes me to get my wrist to my nose.
Today I’m wearing my other current favorite–Parfums et Senteurs de Pays Basque Lombok (a mouthful in any language) is a soft, glowing citrus that lasts a leeetle longer, but not by much.
I was wondering if anyone was going to wear 4711…that is a great one!
I decided since I had a huge bottle I could pour it in my bath tonight. Good thing that bottle is so big, lasted all of about 30 seconds.
Internet problems prevented me from logging in earlier but SOTD was Epice Marine, which I love and wish would last longer. Nevertheless I’m going to buy a small bottle as soon as I can now that my sanple is finished!
I keep a bottle of CdeG Peppermint from the Sherbet line in my gym bag because it usually only lasts as long as it takes me to get home and put something else on. I stopped at my daughter’s house on the way today, and my grand daughter told me I smelled like toothpaste, so I guess it lasted long enough for her.
Premier Figuier Extreme today.
Chose Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplune for our project today, layered over grapefruit body wash and lotion. I consider this very fleeting but the cashier at the grocery store just complimented me on my fragrance, 13 hours after copious application. Epic fail, but the nicest kind.
Wore Fou d’Absinthe this evening, lasted maybe 2 hours. 4711 in and after bath tonight.
Oh! Happy Birthday to Bear, Monkeytoe and Filomena!! That’s one heck of a collective weekend party. Enjoy, all.
