Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, and welcome to August! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile, in the original Eau de Toilette, developed by perfumers Francis Kurkdjian and Françoise Caron.
Reminder: on 8/5, wear a fragrance by Francis Kurkdjian, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Jo Malone incense & cedrat today.
Providence Co Branch and Vine
Smoothie this morning: Dandelion greens with coconut milk and berries.
Went to the gym this morning because over the weekend this kid asked me if I had a baby in there…after giving birth in January my body clearly is not bouncing back.
Your morning routine is very inspiring. After some very lazy months (years…) I need to exercise more and eat better.
You smell great!
Inspired by you, I’m wearing Providence Perfume Provanilla. I wanted to feel comforted, but it’s going to be 90 degrees. Provanilla has a summer smokiness that is calming.
I may spray some Samarinda later if I’m feeling more extroverted.
Oof. Little kids’ comments have served as catalysts to changes in my life, too.
On another note, how do dandelion greens taste in a smoothie? As a former Californian, I’ve obviously tried kale smoothies, which were gross.
In the Netherlands we eat a lot of kale but never, ever in smoothies. It sounds utterly revolting, and I adore kale.
I agree. Love kale, but can’t imagine drinking it.
You two have reached the correct conclusion without needing to taste it. I am less clever.
Dandelion greens are very bitter-but good in a smoothie if you mask the taste with some fruit. That are actually really good for you, so I read. Most people have them growing in their back yard but I get mine from the farmers market.
Nice! I tested that one on Saturday….and to respond to your question from Saturday (better late than never 🙂 !!) I do like what I have sampled from Providence thus far…they have a very “earthy” and natural /herbal vibe that remind me very much of the blends that I make with essential oils…..in fact I am testing Divine on my right wrist this morning and a blend I made on my left wrist and they are uncannily similar…..
Thank you for leaving out the kale 😉
Ha! When I was pregnant I baby sat for my friend’s 5 year old girl. I told her I had a baby in my stomach. She looks at me and says ‘Wait, my mother has a stomach too, does it mean there is a baby in there?’ Then she asked her mom when her baby is coming out – I was in hot water for a while.
My kids keep asking even to this day if there is a baby in there.
I highly recommend Pilates – a month of 3 time per week will bring you 1 size down.
Thanks for your support!
You smell fantastic.
And kids can be artless and direct. Think about it: it took you 9 months to create a kid, with all the hormonal changes involved. Take it slow, you will lose weight and have the energy to keep up with your kids.
Kids! Well, I’ve seen you and I think you look fantastic and beautiful. Going to the gym is never a bad thing, however. It generally just makes one feel healthier.
True-it does make one feel healthier
And thanks for the compliment!
How is it possible that no matter how crazy my work gets (and it can get pretty bad), I always find a moment to check in and post about my SOTD, while during my vacation – when I theoretically have all the time in the world – I manage to show up once a week, if that?
Anyway, I’m back in Brussels and back in the office, wearing Apres l’Ondee. I’m also wearing some Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche thanks to Robin’s recommendation. I finally remembered to track it down during the lunch break and it really is nice.
It’s good isn’t it? I tried it as well, a couple of weeks back and was very pleasantly surprised.
Hope you had a great time in Estonia, I’m guessing the weather was pretty good.
It is, although I think I still love Pour Monsieur and Egoiste more.
The weather was good – for Estonian summer;)
The Chenel Allure Home Edition Blanche – EDT or EDP.? I’ e only seen the EDP and I’m wondering how different it is from the EDT?
Egads with the bad spelling – Chanel ! Homme!
I have to admit I didn’t check… I’ll do it next time, but I believe there was only one version.
I’m guessing it was EDT, I didn’t check either but they only seemed to sell one concentration.
Make that EDP, on the Chanel website AHEB is sold in EDP only.
Penhaligon’s Castile. Its soapy orange blossom is very welcome on a hot day like today.
I’ve been meaning to try this. A Penhaligon’s store is opening in the mall near me and I need to go in for a spritz! I want to try Castile and Juniper Sling.
I went to their store for the first time last month. Man they have a ton of things – and the salesperson at least in my experience has no idea about notes or could not recommend anything (to her credit I would be as confused around 20+ fragrances). I think I knew more than her (which is setting a bar really low there 🙂 g
Consider trying Blenheim Bouquet and Opus 1870 too when you are in the store.
I’m in La Chasse aux Papillons today. Needed something fun and floral for this dismal day.
Nice!
Snap!
I’m really enjoying my new bottle.
You smell great!
Hi scent twin! I love La Chasse.
Love La Chasse! My purse still smells wonderful!
I love the way La Chasse au Papillions smells. I am going through my sample rather quickly.
You smell so pretty!
As my 2 Kurkdjians are very expensive I thought that might be a nice theme this week. Pricey scent of the day is Songe d’un bois d’été. Which is lovely, and worth every penny.
I loooove that one. I’m working through my samples but I crave a full bottle. You smell fabulous.
I saw it on Beauty Spin!
At about 22′ Emma Thompson tells a very amusing Peter Rabbit anecdote.
?

I think this is the one. I’m sorry, trust me to forget my own head one of these days.
Thanks, figured it was a missing link! I know she wrote a Peter Rabbit book.
I’ve been in the grip of a lemon obsession lately, so Eau de Guerlain on one arm, Rosine’s Un Zeste de Rose on the other. I’ve hit the bottom of my decant on that one, and so not a lot made it all the way to my skin.
That’s ok; I can wear Hermes’ Un Jardin Sur Le Nil later, once it fades off 🙂
Have a great day, everyone!
I like lemon too!
I enjoy lemon as well!
Robin you smell lovely, didn’t know it was by FK till I read this week’s project. I’m wearing Une Fleur de Cassie which is beautiful.
You smell great. I’m planning to get one of those single travel sprays of this.
Thank you! I can’t remember if he did the EdP too.
According to Bois de Jasmin the EDP was by Françoise Caron on her own. I just checked to see if I had another Kurdjian in my collection, as I’ve had a bottle of IN in edp for years.
Thanks!
Sotd is a cheapie I’ve fallen for (don’t judge me! lol!): David Beckham Homme. Grapefruit, ginger, pepper, and rosemary, over a light woody amber base. Surprisingly well done.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Hey, falling for a cheapie warrants a congrats!
Cheapies are the best!!
No judgment on this end! If it smells good, it smells good regardless of cost!
Cheap doesn’t necessarily mean “smells bad”. Kudos to finding something that’s nice on both the wallet and the nose!
I agree!
I agree, too!
SOTD: Baccarat Rouge 540 (MFK). Love this stuff but it is very spendy. Acquired 3 samples recently (this, APOM Pour Homme and Lumiere Pour Homme) and really like them. 🙂
I scored a sample of that. Might wear it tomorrow!
Since I didn’t bring any of my own perfumes on vacation to my parents’ house, I’ve continued digging into my mother’s perfume collection. I’ve learned to stay away from all her scents that are my age-ish, so I’m in a scent I gave her long before discovering NST and the perfumista world: Fragonard Eclat parfum, a bright, citrus-y freesia.
My birthday was yesterday, so my mother made me a fabulous Indian feast. In preparation for the gigantic meal, I went running for the first time since last October! (I’ve been suffering from some major plantar fasciitis, which, even after most of a year, hasn’t cleared up completely, but my body is just so sick of not exercising properly.) I only ran a mile or so, but it felt so good to move again.
Happy Birthday! Good luck with the running.
Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday! And the most important question – what did you eat?
That IS an important question. There were actually two feasts: one on Saturday with guests, and one yesterday (my actual birthday) with just our family.
On the first night, for appetizers, she made fried salmon balls with a spicy/sweet coriander tamarind sauce, and dahi vadas (fried daal flour balls covered in yogurt and spices and tamarind sauce). For dinner, there was a bean-tomato-cucumber salad, the Indian equivalent of Scotch eggs smothered in a creamy onion sauce, salmon in a mustard yogurt sauce, carp in a cashew and raisin sauce, vegetable keftas, chola daal with coconut, a tomato-y daal, a cabbage-and-fish-head curry that I didn’t touch, rice, and tomato chutney. For dessert, there were cashew diamonds and sweet Indian yogurt.
Last night, she made an avocado salad for the appetizer. Then there were paranthas (these amazing triangular rotis), spinach with eggplant and zucchini from her garden, daal, fried fish egg balls, langoustines, and goat curry.
Yup, being at home with my parents means I eat magnificently 🙂 I’m so lucky my mother is such an amazing cook.
And payesum for dessert! I can’t believe I forgot the (arguably) best part!
Wow! That sounds wonderful.
I will spend some quality time with this description later. Thank you!
Wow, I need to get invited to your next birthday dinner! Hope it was a perfect day.
Happy Birthday ????Plantar fasciitis is not fun. I’ve had it before as well. Orthotics helped, though.
I did get orthotics last November, and then again in February. The second augmentation resulted in debilitating back pain that cleared up about a week after I stopped wearing the orthotics. I’ve come to the conclusion that modern medicine still has a long ways to go before understanding body physics 🙁
This information may not be useful after such a long time with the condition, but I was lucky enough to come across it early:
NEVER, EVER get out of bed in the morning and place your bare feet on the floor. That tears the fascia every morning. When getting out bed put your feet into shoes that have at least a one inch heel and decent arch support. The only exception is in the shower and preferably after you’ve been walking around in shoes for a while. Additionally never, ever walk around the house or outside wearing low heel, or worse, no heel flats.
There may be an exception if you are wearing something like high end flip flops with excellent arch support so that you foot doesn’t flatten out.
Additionally, the recommended foot exercises help.
I’ve always thought orthotics are useless for plantar fasciitis and do result in back pain from changing your foot position and gait.
My plantar fasciitis resulted from walking a long distance in flats while carrying a heavy load of books. Never again.
Eventually you will be able to move into 2 inch heels.
Good luck, and happy birthday. 🙂
Oof, I wish I had gotten this advice a year ago. I did the foot exercises and made sure to have shoes with support, but could’ve used the rest of this information earlier 🙁 Thanks though!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Two years after developing plantar fasciitis it dawned on me that I might actually be able to wear a small heel again, its definitely slow going. Glad you’re better, but don’t overdo.
Oh no, two years?! I thought almost a year was ludicrously long; it’s disheartening to know that even longer bouts of pain are not uncommon. Thanks, though; even after a mile, the pain flared up, so I will have to take it easy for a while longer 🙁
Oh I don’t think it took 2 years, maybe 1 year and 3 mos or a year and a half. Its just that I’d given up hope of ever wearing any heels again until this little voice in my head kept saying “You should try on a small heel…” Initially I was appalled, but darn if the voice wasn’t right.
Happy Birthday! I admire runners. I don’t even remember enjoying it when I was a kid and, as an adult, you won’t see me running unless there’s an emergency 😉 So sorry about your PF. Foot injuries suck and take forever to calm down. I still can’t wear proper heels for very long and it’s been almost four years since my tendon tear.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! Glad you’re getting to spend time with family and enjoy what sounds like amazing cooking!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy belated birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Love that your mom is spoiling you with food and family!
Happy belated birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Joining the chorus — Happy Birthday, Koyel!
Kinda late but I am joining others in wishing you a happy birthday!
SOTD so far is CdG Grace Coddington. It’s so pretty but will be gone by noon so I will find another rose for later.
You smell pretty.
I like CdG Grace. You smell lovely.
I’m glad you like it. I need to get my hands on a sample.
You smell WONDERFUL, Robin – that’s one of my favorites! I’m in Le Temps d’Une Fete today. I don’t know why I don’t wear this more often.
You smell beautiful!
You do smell lovely! I only have a decant left, so I tend to use it sparingly.
One of my very very favorites, and good, IMO, in just about any weather but bitter cold.
Bottega Veneta today.
I had a nice enough weekend up here in New York, but my mother’s hometown (and to some extent my second hometown) Ellicott City, Maryland was devastated by a flash flood in its beautiful historic district. Two fatalities, though it seems like we should be grateful that there weren’t any more. I don’t live there but it feels very personal, and so that’s very much on my mind today.
Wow, so sorry. I’ve never experienced flooding, it seems very scary.
I haven’t either, and would never have imagined it in a place I know so well, but the videos of the water rushing down the street and the rescues that took place are remarkable/terrifying.
I live in Baltimore County and the photos of the flood were heart-wrenching.
That is sad. And scary. Hope the BV is bringing you some comfort.
Thanks – wish I could give that comfort to those in the immediate area. It’s such a lovely place and I hope they can rebuild.
We are 25 mi. south and had the torrential rain and lost power. I was shocked and saddened to hear about what happened just up the road. We have been pretty lucky in this area compared to many parts of the US. But, the weather is more volatile everywhere.
So glad you’re alright. Do you have power back yet?
I was checking in with a lot of my relatives in Howard County on Saturday, and it seems that for the majority that was the worst of it, so I’m grateful for that.
We had a party in Silver Spring that night, and a few people weren’t able to come because of it. One family who couldn’t come lives in Ellicott City, and they didn’t have water or power for a while 🙁
My neighbors were talking about this yesterday. One used to live in Maryland and knows people who live there. The video she had seen had given her quite a shock. Nature has such awful power.
Yikes. I saw that on the news last night, and it looked terrifying.
Yikes! That was a terrible event!
Happy Monday! I’m on vacation all this week and we’re heading to Fire Island tomorrow, but as timing will have it, we have a kitty with new tummy troubles. Took her to the vet ER yesterday, got some Flagyl tablets for her, but having a helluva time giving them to her, poor kitty. She’s breaking my heart 🙁
My brother visited from LA over the weekend, which was fun. Got to play tourist and went to the new Whitney museum which is pretty gorgeous.
I’m in remnants of last nights HdP 1740 and it’s cooler and cloudy today, so may top it off this morning. It’s quite the comfort scent to me.
Oh, no! I’m so sorry about the cat. It really is hell trying to get them to take medicine, too. I’m crossing my fingers for you!
Thanks ajellyfish! I’ve taken Flagyl before, myself, and it really does taste terrible, even for the few seconds it takes to swallow it, so I can imagine how it is for her.
Poor kitty girl. Hope she feels better soon.
Thanks! Me, too.
Oh, so sorry about the kitty. Getting tablets down them is never an easy task. Mine are masters at the pill toss. But, I became a master at the swift swaddling.
Enjoy Fire Island!
Thanks lizzieb! The problem is I think the taste is so bad, she literally starts foaming at the mouth and gagging. She’s usually easier to medicate than her brother, who does the pill toss. We’re taking her back toger usual vet who compounds the pills in something that tastes better and is easier to give. Double vet bill but is worth the peace of mind.
Worth the cost. Has to be heartbreaking to see the gagging and foaming. Unfair to make it taste so bad. Animals don’t understand and can’t rationalize that it is helpful…. ????
So sorry about your kitty! It’s heartbreaking when you can’t reason with them (and I have vivid memories of trying to choke down a disgusting liver pill that was supposed to help with my migraines when I was young, so even reason doesn’t help that much).
When we had to give bad tasting meds to the late, great Mika, we had the foaming and bloody spit problem too. After taking her back to the vet and finding that he and the techs couldn’t get her to take the meds either, they not only re-compounded using an extremely strong sardine flavoring but agreed to medicate her once daily for free if I brought her in.
I’m an expert at pills that can be coated with butter and loaded into a pill-popper, but bad-tasting compounded stuff is beyond most mortal pet servants.
Last time we had to do this, she took the compounded ones very easily. The ER place just has standard high-dose tabs that have to be quartered. The good thing is, she seems fine otherwise: eating, drinking and acting like her silly little self.
I was just going to suggest compounding. My vet prescribed a bitter tasting drug in a fish flavored oral suspension ( the compounding pharmacy gave me a choice of fish or chicken!), and my kitty took it without any problem. I hope something like that works for you.
YES!! Most compounding pharmacies can do up a “delicious” tuna oiled Flagyl for ya! 🙂
So sorry about the kitty 🙁 We get our cat to take anti-cancer pills (why do cats have anti-cancer pills? why don’t people?) by stuffing them in treat pill pockets–is that something you might be able to do? I hope kitty feels better fast!
Thanks Koyel. We’ve tried those. And it would make life easier except she doesn’t like the pill pockets. She’s picky about her treats.
And I hope your cat is ok.
He’s stable, thanks 🙂 We had to go through a couple pill pockets to get one he was happy with; it must be so frustrating if none of them work with yours 🙁
Do I have you to thank for the Korean restaurant recommendations? I took my niece to Shanghai Mong and it was amazing! Unfortunately we did virtually no perfume shopping as she just wasn’t interested…not even Sephora (she does not like pushy SAs)…how did you like the HdP? I was eyeing the sampler set because they sell most of the fragrances now in small travel sprays (affordable and bottle draining capability)…I am hoping you say that they are not worth sampling because I really want to make a dent in my collection (which isn’t as vast as some others but still I would like to whittle it down to maybe ten bottles of things I REALLY adore)…..my goals is to drain …one bottle at a time…which is why I have been in Assam the entire summer thus far…..
and I do hope kitty makes a speedy recovery 🙂 !!!
I think I gave the Korean restaurants rec to jenkr, but glad you enjoyed yourself! What did you get to do here?
I do like some of the HdPs and the 15ml sizes for some of them are a nice deal. I just bought the Ambre 114 after draining a decant from the lovely floralgal. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s an amber I can wear. Something about the weight and balance of other notes makes it delicious to me. 1740 is a spicy, mild leather immortelle which hits all the right buttons. But, I don’t think you’d go for them and they are not worth your time ????
Basically we ate and shopped all day long-LOL! Thanks for not encouraging/enabling with the HdPs…although your descriptions make both 1740 (I happen to love immortelle) and the amber sound very enticing!
Eating and shopping sounds perfect-especially the eating part. Did a lot of that with my brother here.
I hope your kitty is feeling better soon!
Thanks Petunia!
Poor kitty! And they usually HATE taking their meds, don’t they? 🙁
Yes they do!
I hope kitty gets better quickly. The new Whitney is gorgeous. Did you stop by the By Kilian boutique?
No because the bro. Saw it and the Parfums de Marly boutique when we were looking for a place to eat, though.
SOTD- Assam of India
TORW(testing on right wrist) Divine
TOLW (testing on left wrist) a blend I made with a White Lotus amber send to me by a very generous NSTer that I combined with tobacco, jasmine and “raspberry” isolate among other e.os)
Whatever back pain I had has been relieved by imagining those scents 🙂
You are too funny Wendysue! and I really hope you recover soon from your back issue….I had to go to my recipe book to look up the e.os. I used in my blend because I am really liking it…vanilla, tobacco, “strawberry” isolate ( my nose mistakenly picked up raspberry),jasmine, sweet orange, sandalwood and the White Lotus Amber blend ….I am testing it out before sending it to the lovely lady who gifted me the very large White Lotus amber blend bottle (thanks, H 🙂 !!!!)
SOTD L’Eau d’Hiver but planning to test Mito EDP later. That version seems to be more loved than the extrait/ voile d’extrait?
Preferred the voile in the end but neither leaped out and insisted I buy it. Phew. I think I may be done with acquiring new perfumes. Just another back up or two. .
SOTD: Timbuktu. I had to play nice for most of last week, so I’m welcoming the chance to get back to weird. Even if it is Monday.
Timbuktu is gorgeous and hardly weird at all…
I think it’s slightly weird, and that’s what makes it gorgeous.
I’m wearing Sel de Vetiver by The Different Company on this hot day.
Happy Monday Morning to Everyone! Today is my first day back at work. All Principals and Counselors for my district returned today! I feel like we didn’t get a summer break at all. Maybe a total of 4 weeks. My SOTD is Aqua Universalis by MFK. Its pretty enough to get the job done today, but not FB worthy IMO. Hope everyone has a fabulous week!
SOTD is AdP Colonia. Light and fresh; I still can’t smell very much.
Our new (to us) yard has lots of overgrown shrubs, but 2 out front seem to be some type of jasmine. I can drink my cappuccino and watch the bees, butterflies and hummingbirds go to town. Total joy.
🙂
That is nice and peaceful. I have a jasmine and a gardenia which are blooming and smelling beautiful, and a flowering leafy plant which attracts busy bees. Enjoy your earthly delights! Nothing better than sitting and watching with a good coffee.
I’m wearing a cheapie today – Sung EDT – to celebrate my impending broke-itude. I CLOSE ON MY HOUSE TOMORROW! I’m excited and utterly terrified.
Congrats!! That sounds like a great reason for a cheap thrill.
Congrats on closing. Exciting times!
YAY FOR THE HOUSE!
Congrats and good luck!!! I’d rather find cheap thrills as a tradeoff for owning our own place, but won’t happen any time soon if we plan on staying in NYC 🙁
Yay!
Congrats sweetgrass!
I can so relate. The move, and then the realization of all the projects the house needs or you want to do will be the next overwhelming phase, immediately following the closing. Take a deep, perfumed breath…..
Congrats!
Congratulations!
How exciting! Congratulations all around!
Heard in passing this weekend:
“I wonder what Charmander smells like?”
“Like smoke. Bulbasaur smells better.”
Sotd = La Chasse aux Papillons. Today I will imagine I smell like Butterfree. 😀
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit indeed! I am so happy to be back! Finally 6 weeks of daily morning swim team is OVER!! Nothing like sunscreen, bug repellent, chlorine, “pool smell”, and sweat to mess with the urge to wear fragrance. There was just no point. I think the past 5 weeks was the longest I’ve ever gone without wearing daily fragrance for well over a decade. The only things I could bear was either lemongrass or jasmine e/o to go with after swim showers, etc. I have a lot of catching up to do.
SOTD is vintage Hermes Amazone edt. Cheers!
Man. I miss daily swim practices.
Every now and then I wonder why I don’t own any Amazone. I really liked the sample I had… I think maybe I have just given up on finding any vintage stuff at a reasonable price.
Mals, I’d be glad to send you a decant of vintage Amazone EDT. I found a big splash bottle at Goodwill a few months ago (amazing deal!) that I’ll never get through.
Hi Mals – I have a pretty big bottle of Amazone too so if you want double, that’s OK… There are still some OK deals on it via ebay, but if people are handing it out for free that’s even better!!! I like that it has an earthy sweet meadow smell. Not the norm with your average white flowers and oakmoss. The only great thing for me about swim team was that it really forced me to use my vacation time in a nice outdoorsy way, and I think I lost about 7 lbs b/c I’d swim with her when she was done.
SOTD Soleil de Jeddah. Why am I not wearing it more often??? It so gorgeous!! I need to rid self of some bottles so I can focus more.
Is anyone as excited as I am that Le Labo city exclusives are coming? I am eyeing a Paris and Tokyo and wondering what people’s experiences with them. Also if anyone is interested in splits (Robin I hope it is OK for soliciting) we could get a larger bottle and make it more affordable.
I saw that too! I am curious to sample, anyone have any recommendations I would love to hear..
A few of us Boston folk went sniffing the other night and we now have a Le Labo counter in Saks and they already have the testers (when asked) so we spent some time sniffing all the city exclusives. Apparently Boston will be the next exclusive but it’s not out yet. Vanille 44 (Paris) and Baie Rose 26 (Chicago) were the ones we seemed to circle back to
And Gaiac (Tokyo)
I am with you on Vanilla and Baie Rose and Gaiac. I have Baie Rose and it is excellent.
I love Vanille 44. It has the guaiac wood of the Tokyo ( Gaiac 10) with a hint of dry vanilla. Its more wood/ incense than vanilla in the traditional sense.
I’ve liked the Musc 25 on and off, but not enough to get more than samples so far. Also like the Tubereuse 40, but there are a lot of other special tuberose scents.
I love them both :-). I’m waiting for a basenotes split for Limette 37 to fill.
I’m wearing Au The Blanc, thanks to the generosity of those participating in the Freebiemeet. I’m liking it, especially on the first day of August in Texas.
It’s a good one in the heat.
It’s August already….how is that even possible? Hubby is back to school today, and the kids start next Monday. WOW!
SOTD: Versace Versense. I’ve been reaching for this one a lot this summer!
It’s like I blinked and 2/3s of the summer is gone!
Next Monday!! That is too soon.
I am wearing my new Frapin 1270. Gorgeous!
I may do a whole week of FK’s stuff…
APOM Femme today…
Hard to pick a perfume for today. Started in an air-conditioned apartment, then the sunny hot streets of Malaga, the stress of the airport, the flight, and now grey, rainy-but-warm London. I went with Escentric Molecules “Kinski”, which hasn’t really been equal to the task. I get the animal and vetiver, wouldn’t recognise weed unless very blatant, and all in all I just don’t think I’m the target market. :^)
Okay, re-applied the last of it in London and I get the cannabis note. Could be a temperature thing or a nose thing. Either way, it’s OK but OK isn’t good enough to take it further.
You travel A LOT! What happened to 2 weeks in Malaga?
Woke up a little later than I wanted, so I’m still debating on what I should wear today. I think no 19 will do today since it’s muggy today.
It rained last night so Boston has cooled down a little so I’m wearing Angelique Noire
Late to this:
SOTD: Molinard Jasmine, layered over homemade rose/jasmine oil. Very nice, and a (now) poor woman’s substitute for the delicious Rodin or a much lighter version of Joy.
OOTD: Blue embroidered silk tank top with white pants and black sandals. Wearing a tissue thin green cardigan because a relatively cool morning.
Home made Cafe Du Monde coffee with homemade almond/coconut milk. A big southern style biscuit with homemade jam.
love everything about this post from scent to outfit to coffee and biscuit — wonderful!
Hey there! Thanks! 🙂
I’m wearing Chanel Gardenia as I try to use up all my little decant bottles. I really prefer bottles to decants and I need the room they take up in the cupboard for the stuff I bought in London.
You and Chanel Gardenia smell fantastic. That one is my favorite gardenia scent.
Put Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan on about 4 hours ago, and it’s almost gone. Will probably go with Guilty after lunch.
Happy August, all! I started off the day in Aftelier Wild Roses — my husband gave me a small bottle for Christmas because he knows I love rose everything, which was so hugely sweet of him. Trouble is, I really don’t like this one. There’s a rose in it somewhere, but to my nose it’s almost completely drowned out by a huge wash of nag champa incense. I wore it bravely for an hour, then scrubbed and replaced with Une Rose. What to do when a loved one gives you a perfume you don’t like?
I don’t know… I have a bottle of Montale Highness Rose my DH gave me that just doesn’t work for me. Don’t know what to do about it. Would love to swap it – maybe if I swap it for another Montale it will go unnoticed? 🙂
If I have a bottle of fragrance I don’t want to wear but I very much do want to use, I put it in the kitchen or bath and use it for scenting the air. (I hope nobody gasped after reading that.) That gives me a chance to hold and look at the pretty bottle and think about how lucky I am to have it.
If the fragrance is something precious or expensive I use it for scenting a drawer, closet, bed linens, or a scarf. Some scents that don’t work on my skin will create a nice scented ambiance in a small space.
No gasps here. I do this often with scents I want to use up before they turn, or scents that I like the smell of but do not want on my body.
The real challenge is when it’s a fragrance he loves! If he buys blindly on his end then you can kind of get out of loving it.
Nice and cool this morning, so I took advantage to wear Micallef Denis Durand Couture.
Going out for brunch on a beautiful holiday Monday. Not even quite sure what the holiday is but happy to have the day off!
A little Cristalle sounds about right.
SOTD – sort of – is Carven l’Absolu by FK until about five minutes later when I decided it was a scrubber. Then applied l’Eau d’Ambre Extreme to counteract. Medicinal amber with a godly drydown. Phew.
SOTD is PdN Eau d’ete.
I bought – oh my gosh, unsniffed – a bottle of Acqua Colonia lemon and ginger from Amazon yesterday. I my defense it’s been so, so hot this summer that I need something I can spray with wild abandon, and it was all of $29.00. On the other hand, unsniffed!
That sounds perfect for the heat!
Let us know if it is fantastic!
SOTD Etat Libre D’Orange Fils de Dieu. I find it very exotic. Love the blend of the steam rice note with citrus and coconut. Very refreshing, invigorating, clean. It blooms nicely in the heat.
Just thinking about this one makes me smile!
You smell fantastic, Robin!
Like that one a lot.
I’m in BV lotion, generously sent to me by Elisa P.
Subtle version of the ‘fume, and nicely moisturizing.
Thank you, and I am sure you do too! I love scented lotions.
Hello, hello. Today I have all the ominous signs of a migraine about to arrive. Maybe if I’m careful I can hold it off. What a beastly botheration! I wanted to wear something gloriously warm and enveloping and wintry, but I think I will play it safe with the coolness of Cristalle. It somehow manages to have real presence, yet be an undemanding companion, and its crisp citrus and green are refreshing.
Ugh, migraine. I hope you get some relief from the fabulous-ness of Cristalle.
I don’t know if it truly helps, but my home-made “self care” regimen when I feel a migraine coming on begins with drinking plenty of extra water, taking half a dose of naproxen sodium followed shortly by another half-dose if the impending feeling of migraine-doom and pain persists or increases, and sniffing citrus, lavender, or wintergreen essential oil.
That sounds like the best self-care programme I’ve heard of. I shall try it! Thank you.
SOTD is Bulgari Bleu…it is a very pretty scent and I should wear it more often.
Gorgeous scent!
Mohur Monday for me today. It’s a little bit cooler and I’m taking full advantage!
Hooray for cooler temps and you smell Fantastic in Mohur!
Although my decant is still nearly full, I’m already worried about running out. ????
I’m taking a one-month vacation from NST, a desperate measure to prevent additional perfume purchases. Enjoy the rest of the summer. I will really miss you all!
NST really is the worst addiction self-help group ever! :^D
hahahaha!
Enjoy your guilt free August!
Cutting something out of your life for a while can be really good. Enjoy your break!
I think Iris Poudre for me today. Something I love, but haven’t worn for a long time.
SotD is Prada Infusion d’Oeillet
You smell fabulous! This reminds me thatbI haven’t heard from the Saks SA about a promotion. Maybe I got a voicemail — the last time I checked I supposedly bave 127 new messages and I am of course ignoring them because where to begin?
SOTD = Soivhole Studio Red Rose parfum oil, again. Fits both my mood and the weather, somehow. My small sample has lasted a lot longer than I thought it would.
Annick Goutal Gardenia Passion for me today, which is the last of my decant! I’ve been working on emptying decants that are low, so. It feels really good to be done with another. I enjoy this scent, but I will not seek out any more of it.
Well, you smell great in that decant’s last hurrah!
Why thank you! It is a perfect, easy choice for Monday.
While I love the smell of green teas, I am a coffee die-hard, so to bring me happily into the day, I spritzed some L’Occitane The Vert in the air. Later, it was Hermes Eau d’Orange Verte lotion — I love citruses an dthis won’t bother an asthmatic friend I’m seeing in a little while.
I love the L’Occitane The Vert. Too bad the shower gel was discontinued!
I’m beginning to think that if it comes from Lush or L’Occitane, “get it now” because it won’t be there long. 🙁
Every time I see a Lush anywhere in the world, I stop in to see if there is a forgotten bottle of Lord of Misrule perfume. Le sigh …
Ah, Monday. Boy am I late today! Spritzed myself while out running errands, so I’ve ended up with Patou Sublime on my arms and a bit of EL White Linen down my shirt. Weird, I know. But they’re not fighting each other because the Sublime is faint and not really projecting (maybe it was EDT?).
Nice combination!
Thanks! Though, I’m not sure how it would’ve worked had the Sublime been noticeable.
I’m wearing Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede.
We are taking a trip to the Denver area. We leave tomorrow morning. My daughter would like to do some mountain climbing and white water rafting. That’s a little bit different from my idea of a vacation, which is shopping, lots of walking, fine dining and maybe seeing a movie or live show. I hope we can come to a happy medium in our trip plans 🙂
Enjoy your trip. As much as I enjoy traveling with family, they cramp my style. I am no slug when it comes to being out and about but my sister is extremely type A with the must see while my brother in law does not have the energy to keep up. My sister likes perfume but does not understand my ummm ENTHUSIASM for all things perfume and my BIL and nephew cannot bear to be anywhere near perfume.
Have a good trip!
SOTD = 8-spray La Pausa
I needed something easy-to-wear, versatile and won’t overwhelm.
On my walk back to NY Penn this evening, I witnessed a serious case of bike rage. A yellow cab was proceeding cautiously crossing 6th Avenue. A biker decides to haphazardly cross against the light at the crosswalk and the cabbie honked his horn. And then the biker got off his bike and proceeded to PUNCH the hood of the cab. Either the biker was wearing brass knuckles or he was used to punching steel – there were serious dents on the hood! I made sure to walk a wide berth around the biker lest he decides to direct his anger at innocent bystanders!
I wonder which perfumes are good for diffusing anger?
Do disturbing to see something like that, plus, it can quickly escalate so its smart to keep that wide berth or run in the other direction.
Not sure there’s any perfume that can help with that kind of rage 🙁
Maybe something with lavender but you’re probably right that some things can’t be helped!
(Doesn’t the 8-spray for La Pausa go without saying by now? I think we’d all be concerned if you *didn’t* go with 8! ????)
Holy cow, I shudder to think what that biker would be like behind the wheel of a car! Good call on steering clear of the guy!
SOTD: Cedre Atlas. I think I’m finally growing as a perfumista, because this is the first fragrance where I actually identified every stage of the scent progression! That first burst of lemon, and then blatant cedar, and that vetiver. I love it all!!! I’m really hoping it’s not a fluke, because I’ve been terrible at noticing progressions in everything else.
Good for you! I forgot this was by Atelier! I could be in the minority here but I tend to enjoy perfumes that smell the same from beginning to end. Most Chanels to me are of this type but of course there are many who can dissect them into individual notes or accords and some kind of time lapse development 🙂
Awesome! Just don’t be disappointed if you can’t replicate that with tons of other perfumes–I know I can’t pick apart or even perceive the ‘known’ progression of some scents. Besides, not all scents have clear progressions, and your nose and skin chemistry can affect how you experience. My skin, for example, amplifies some sandalwoods so much that it overwhelms the perfumes starting at the top notes, and I can’t smell any of the progression of the notes that you’re ‘supposed’ to!
Wearing Armani Prive Pierre de Lune today. Love!
