It's Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
Thanks to a very kind perfume fairy, I'm wearing Lush 25:43.
Reminder: 7/22 will be Flashback Friday — wear a fragrance you wore "back in the day". I think this was suggested by Bee and MikasMinion?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: image shows Lush Sunrise Soap.
Wearing my sadly discontinued Neroli Jasmin oil from the Body Shop, which, though supposedly being a white floral, does not seem particularly white floral-ish to me. It’s got a warmth that’s got an almost ambery quality to it, and this is a big part of why I love it.
I’m getting better with white florals over time, but many of them do still often have a kind of untouched stateliness that just doesn’t seem like me. But this could change.
Hope everyone is well!
You’re making me miss it too, and I never even tried it 🙂
It was lovely- a kissing cousin to Rodin’s body oil.
Ok, stop now please!
I’m right there with you on the Neroli Jasmin. Not particularly ‘white’ and almost-ambery warmth. That’s exactly how it seems to me, too (I have the EDT). What a pity it was discontinued.
Gardenia Batik for me today, along with the remnants on one hand of Kurkdijian’s Grand Soir from my trip to the mall yesterday. Boston’s Saks now has Le Labo
What did you think of Grand Soir please?
It’s pretty linear with a decent amount of labdanum I think. It’s almost all base notes and has great longetivity. Warm and cozy but has some lift
Thanks…I am looking forward to sniffing it.
I am wearing Eau de Cartier Zeste de Soleil. Very office friendly without being too dull.
I am drinking some organic genmaicha from Tenren.
You smell great! I don’t know why but genmaicha is pretty much a cold-weather only tea for me. Right now I am drinking a Yin Hao jasmine from Harneys.
If I waited for cold weather in South Florida, I would drink it three days a year! My office is pretty cold.
Ha!
PdN L’Eau Chic, which is classy and refreshing.
Yes it is!
So perfect!
You smell great!
One of my favs!
Jet-lagged and awake! I had a wonderful trip to Svalbard and did some damage at the Heathrow duty-free shops–Hermes, Chanel, and Memo purchases and some great sniffing of Dior and Miller Harris among others. I carried Wet Ones and had to keep wiping down my arms. Now it’s trying to get back into a normal routine.
That is such a good idea about the wet wipes. Courage for the normal routine, as the French would say, and it sounds like you found some good stuff at Heathrow.
Oooh – what’d you get what’d you get?
I third that request 🙂
Yes! And welcome back!
Yes, details please so we may live vicariously…
I bought a half-ounce of Bois des Iles parfum ($166 because the pound is low compared to the dollar) 75ml of Memo African Leather that I had been wanting for about a year, 100ml Hermes Rhubarbe Ecarlate, and four 15ml Hermessences–Brin de Reglisse, Osmanthe Yunnan, Iris Ukiyoe, and Vanille Galante. I wanted Santal Massoia but they were sold out. Chanel threw in two samples each of Cuir de Russie and Misia and Memo gave me a scarf and four samples.
Today I’m wearing Le Labo Neroli.
Excellent haul.
foxbins,
Could you kindly provide more details on the shops you visited? I’ll soon have to spend some time at Heathrow and your report sounds much more interesting than what I found there in the past. Thanks!
schaf, I shopped in Terminal 5. World Duty Free had the largest selection and it’s where I saw Memo, Miller Harris, Hermes, and Dior Privee. I also saw Amouage. Chanel and Hermessences were at their respective boutiques, but I also saw the Chanel Exclusifs in Terminal 2. If you have more than a 3 hour layover you can contact a Heathrow Personal Shopper who can escort you through security to different terminals. Terminals 3 and 5 seem to have the best perfume shopping in terms of variety.
Thank you! This is very helpful information!
Awesome; thank you so much!! That flight seems less dreadful now!
What a haul! Thank you for sharing 🙂
OOoooh, nice haul!
Ooh great stuff and good to know about Heathrow!
Good work! Thanks for sharing.
I have wanted to go to Svalbard ever since I was a kid reading about Gino Watkins. Did you get to travel around very much? Were you with a group on a ship or based out of Longyearbean? I guess you must have had 20 hours daylight? So many questions needing answers! what did the place smell like? Aaaaargh…take me with you next time! Hope Willow didn’t destroy your house in your absence.
It never really got dark at all up there. I was on a 70-passenger ship with 2 or 3 daily Zodiac excursions to land if there were no polar bears nearby (one day we couldn’t go ashore as there were 3 bears within a quarter kilometer area). We circumnavigated Svalbard. It smelled wonderful-like dirt, stones, sea water, and an ozone-ish smell from fog. Loads of puffins, kittiwakes, phalaropes, purple sandpipers, little auks, and glaucous gulls. I watched two Arctic foxes chase each other around for a good five minutes before they disappeared. It was a great trip. Willow went to a kennel just to be safe.
Sounds absolutely perfect. How brilliant.
So cool.
That sounds amazing!
Sounds like a great trip.
Accidentally up too early so I dabbed on some beloved (and dwindling) SL Chene sample to be cozy and thoughtful for some 6 am reading…
When desiring to be cozy and thoughtful, wood scents are always what I reach for too. I may need to spend more time with Chene.
It’s the fanciest way to smell like oiled wood floors and pencil shavings that I know, and I mean that in a very good way.
You smell good! I love Chene!
Someone needs to do a split now that it only comes in the bell jar size!
I actually want a couple of bell-jar-only Serge Lutenses. How do you do a split? And how are you gonna order it anyway, if it is non-export?
Oh I have no specific plans, as of yet. I was hoping someone in the US would do it (I’m in Canada) as they generally have better access…
I love Chene – it’s my only SL love and no one ever talks about it. You smell great!
Loewe Solo Pop. It energizes me and smells great in the sweltering heat we are experiencing. Loewe Solo is new to me but I’m liking the flankers I have so far!! Have a great day.
I wish it was easier to find Loewe in the US!
I saw the brand for the 1st time in Lisbon this Spring. They were completely new to me.
Interesting. I assumed they were all over Europe, but maybe not.
Oops – I wasn’t clear. I am Canadian, and never saw the line until I went to Lisbon…..
Oh, so sorry — I cannot keep everyone’s location straight!
I’ve got a limited selection of scents with me, so wearing my sample of Rhubarbe Ecarlate while sitting in the terrace and reading.
How do you like Rhubarbe Ecarlate? I love the opening.
I do like it, but wish the opening lasted longer. I think it works perfectly as a shower gel, though.
That sounds wonderful.
It is really nice. Haven’t done anything productive today except for cooking one meal.
You smell refreshing and lovely. On yesterday’s book question, I raced through Girls on Fire so something worked, but I was also annoyed by how much it depoliticized its subject. It’s an interesting read alongside The Girls.
Amy I’m wondering what you thought of your Memo yesterday? You said you felt like you were at the beach- does this mean it is only appropriate for summer?
Ilha do Mel I think works year round. The combination of bright citrus with gardenia and jasmine and a touch of vanilla makes it smell like a tropical beach to me, but it’s got a lot of backbone. I bought it at Nose in Paris where you do a scent profile and try a number of things; it stood out then and I do like it, but at the end of the day I am not sure it’s me. I’m realizing that white florals aren’t. But this is a good non-indolic one if it *is* your thing!
I think I will order a sample and find out if this one is my thing. Thanks!
Oh let me send you some. I’m ahollywood at hds dawt Harvard dawt edu. Don’t know why I don’t have gmail. Write and send me your address and I can send 5ml or more easily. The bottle is huge.
Thank you, Amy! I’ve just finished The Girls. It was better than I expected (but I did not expect it to be good): occasionally really effective, sometimes overwritten, generally well crafted. I’m glad I read it – it’s a quick read, too – but it’s not quite my thing.
This all sounds right. I think maybe Americans from the U.S. and my generation have a bigger fascination with the Manson family than is healthy. This was at least an interesting take, focusing on the relationships of the women and girls instead of on the Manson figure.
Yes, I’m sure you’re right about this. I was very hazy even on the basic facts, so my reading experience was dirrefent in this regard. Kurt Cobain is something I have more of a connection with, as he died when I was a teenager and there was a Cobain-craze in Estonia, too. I’m not a devil worshipper, though 🙂
Oh and Girls on Fire also taps into a particular US zeitgeist thing. The confluence of grunge and Kurt Cobain adoration with the widely held conviction of an alarming number of Americans that devil worship and witchcraft were on the rise. Oof.
Eau D’orange Verte today, the newer one, which is lasting surprisingly well. I plan on refreshing with a new mini of Lys Mediteranee before heading out this evening.
Mmm, two beautiful choices!
Thank you
Which Eau d’Orange Verte? The EdT, EdP, or the Concentree? I must admit I prefer the EdT and then a respritz after a few hours.
And that is the one I have – it feels so refreshing!
Oh, you smell fresh and lovely!
Hermes siblings!
Wearing Gucci Pour Homme. Going to be in meetings today and I think it’ll be the right touch for the situation.
Good luck!
Assam of India…I have already deleted three rows of elephants!
I had my niece try all the Berdoues Grand Cru samples and I just ordered her two full bottles of her favorites for her birthday…the oud one as well as the Lebanese cedar one (which also has notes of ginger and iris)….when I gift them to her I am going to remind her that I want those empty bottles….they are so appealing to me :)!!!! Fro my other niece I ordered the vanilla one for her birthday…(vanilla is her favorite note)
Hope everyone is having a good Wednesday!
How sweet.
Three rows of elephants! You *have* been spritzing!
I’m another fan of Assam of India. It has been in heavy rotation this summer.
I am completely gone to the tropical side with Memoire Liquide Vacances Liquide body cream topped with Kerosene Unknown Pleasures.
I smell of coconut and vanilla, tangerine, tiare and honey.
Off to the dentist this afternoon to make sure my recent power saw incident did not do any permanent damage.
Nice! I drained Liquide Soleil a few years ago…one of the best nerolis!
The Encens Liquide is an excellent vanilla incense too.
Ouch. Hope everything is intact.
Nothing is broken, and no teeth permanently damaged, but a lot of soft tissue damage. Estimate time to healing – 2+ weeks.
Ouf so awful. I am glad it isn’t worse, but so sorry.
SOTD is the Gucci EDP from 2002 – lovely orange blossom and spices. This likely would have become my one-and-only if I hadn’t fallen down the rabbit hole looking for a replacement for Jil Sander No. 4.
Love that one! My (now empty) bottle came as an add-on to an auction for a full bottle that I don’t care for. Alas, now the hunt is complicated by the fact that Gucci replaced it with a completely different scent with the same name. Argh! Why do they do that?! Now I can only find 1 oz bottles for a reasonable price…
In any case, you smell wonderful 🙂
Thanks! The one ounce bottles are the better option for this fragrance anyway – the bigger bottle is quite difficult to hold onto if you have small hands.
I’m not sure what I’ll wear today, but I’m thinking Tabac Tabou would suit me and wear close enough to the skin that it won’t bother whoever pokes around to figure out my dress alterations.
Finally testing Alahiiiiine courtesy of a lovely perfume fairy! It was a bit too spicy for me for the first hour, but I’m now really enjoying it.
I got my Rose Delight body oil yesterday, and had to add a squirt just now and have immediately thought of buying another one. So freakin’ good!
yeah, Alahine’s lovely, but not a summer scent. You might better tolerate the spice in the fall!
Thanks, galbanumgal! I did consider that I was probably being inappropriate with my choice of Alahine in the heat, and then decided to just enjoy myself anyway. 😀
You smell delicious on both accounts. That oil IS so freakin’ good!
Thank you, Elisa P! Andy has done such an incredible job with that oil – it’s a real Goldilocks scent for me!
Speaking of perfume fairies thank you again for all of the delights! I have been monogamous with Assam of India but I am still leaving space on one wrist to go through all of your goodies 🙂
and I have already put together a package for you including several homemade goodies (face serum, body oil, perfume oil and body lotion all incorporating that glorious amber from White Lotus) which will be sent out as soon as the weather cools down!
Oh yes, and all the samples that I have of the Berdoues Grand Cru collection and the Ateliers as well!
Thanks, chocolatemarzipan! It’s always fun to have a perfume pal to exchange things with, and I’m having fun with what you sent me, too!
Eau Premiere today, though it’ll soon vanish in this heat & humidity. Discovered yesterday that earl grey works very well iced, esp with a healthy squeeze of fresh lime.
Earl grey is delicious! I like it with a bit of cream, and you’re right it’s still wonderful cold.
I don’t care for cold tea, but my sister has been making cold brew tea concentrate with chai – I’ll have to suggest Earl Grey and lime to her!
Those both sound so good in the heat.
Dans Tes Bras for a pleasant cool morning, before the heat starts building again.
We had all the windows open this morning, it was such a treat!
In the mood for rose again but I had the faint lingering of Le Galion Aesthete on my wrist, so I went with Le Labo Rose 31. I plan on staying inside as much as possible as it will be scorching hot.
Where have you found the Le Galion perfumes?
I originally smelled one at Jovoy in Paris, but my husband ordered some minis directly from them. He wouldn’t say but implied shipping was outrageous.
Nice husband!
Shalimar PDT today. I really should wear this more often. I forget how much I like it.
I’m really going back in the day, with the first fragrance my mother allowed me to wear when I was 8 or 9 – 4711 cologne. We lived in Germany for seven years when I was a child, and this was the one constant fragrance that all of our German acquaintances wore.
Growing up in a European household 4711 was ubiquitous in my home of origin….I haven’t smelled it in about 40 years but I am sure if I did I would be transported to childhood.
What a wonderful scent and memory!
In so many Caribbean household you would smell either Florida Water or Kanaga water- everyone would splash some on after a shower.
My supervisor is going on vacation for the rest of the month so this is the last I’ll see of him before I leave to grad school. Sad to say bye 🙁
SOTD = last of my Bond No.9 Chinatown sample
May have to get a full bottle of this…but certainly not on a grad student budget. Something to look forward to, and enjoy in this moment.
fragrancenet often has this one discounted….I would check it out if you really want it…..
Bonjour from Calvi, Corsica, birthplace of Christopher Columbus. Our shop is anchored off the port so we had to be tendeewd un. The water is a deep blue, sparkling like blue diamonds, and the terrain is a myriad of flat sandy beaches and a dizzying spiral of shopping, residentrial and historical sights carved from the side of a mountain. Pretty does not do juatice to describing this place!
SOTD = Cedrat Enivrant
Ywaterday, my Fitbit registered 19,775 so I shimmied to top 20,000! 211k+ steps and counting with 3 more days to go!
YOU smell refreshing! Love that one!
I thought of you yesterday when I was trying to get motivated to do … a bunch of different stuff that I’ve ignored. Then the light dawned! Aha! I can do what hajusuuri does and set goals and then reward myself! My goodness, what exactly does my brain do instead of actually thinking? Anyway, thank you for sharing your system – it’s spectacularly helpful. I’m so glad you’re enjoying your vaca – it sounds wonderful and I know it’s well-deserved. 🙂
Wow- your vacation sounds really wonderful, and i think you smell perfect.
Your vacation sounds amazing! I can visualize the blue sparkling ocean.
I’m doing Phi layered over Rose Delight again today, because it was just so damn good yesterday.
I can’t wait for Rose Delight to arrive, and give this combo a try. Sounds like it will make a good base for many spicy roses.
I mean, everything likes to be on a bed of roses, right?
Indult Reve en Cuir today. Love it.
I’m wearing Michael Storer Stephanie, the last of a decant from a friend that I just dug out. It’s an unusual woody white floral.
I think of that one as “peppered gardenia.” Good stuff.
That’s a good description! It’s not sweet like most gardenia scents.
I don’t think I’ve seen this one mentioned before. Sounds really interesting!
Needed an easy day today with a spritz of JM Nectarine Blossom & Honey, and then a few dabs Philosykos. It’s just been too hot our for anything with longevity or heft.
Of course, my Flashback Friday will have to be the original Lolita Lempicka 🙂 I went through bottles of the stuff!
Ohh – I have both of these and never thought to combine them….
Happy Hump day!
1) Up all night with nerves about the bid on the house. To make myself drowsy, I went to a late night movie- the revamped Ghostbusters. Big mistake- it’s a very silly and exciting summer movie.
2) Apparently the heat wave that is over most of the nation has missed Portland metro- which is fine by me, given our broiling summers over the past couple of years AND our very hot spring days. To perk up, all over spritzing of Eau Universalle, then a tiny Boucheron (from a sample) on the wrists and ankles. Very rich, blends well with the background of Universalle. Perfect for today, which will reach 83F- just hot enough.
Good Luck Ede! You smell marvelous!
83F sounds really nice…
It was 83 at 9AM here. I’d cry, but I need the water.
Good luck on the house!
Wearing Child today from a sample I got a while back.
Speaking of Lush! I had my birthday party last night (even though my birthday isn’t for a couple weeks). Our lab friends always pool together money to buy a few good presents (being grad students, we’re all poor, and everyone seems to have a birthday, oddly enough), and my presents included some Lush products! I’m now the proud owner of Celestial, Angels on Bare Skin, aaaaaand Ro’s Argan!!!! I’m most excited about the third one. I also have Rose Jam, and I can’t decide whether to use them together or to use the Rose Jam until it runs out and then use Ro’s Argan to prolong the wonder of the Lush rose scent. Any tips on how to deal with this dilemma appreciated.
SOTD: the remnants of last night’s Arlésienne body oil. Now that I know for sure that l’Occitane is discontinuing the Arlésienne line (!!! 🙁 🙁 🙁 ), I’m glad I hoarded a bunch of the body oils and soaps, but at the same time, this means I’m not allowed to buy that glorious-sounding Tauer Rose Delight body oil, so it’s a mixed blessing, I must say.
Oh, bad news about Arlésienne!! Lucky you, though, that you snapped them up.
What lovely birthday treats, I adore Rose Jam shower gel, must try the others. What a shame about Arlesiene, will get some products if they still have them on my next shopping expedition!
What great presents! Enjoy.
Ro’s argan is wonderfully moisturizing but I find that on its own, its scent doesn’t last past the bath, so I say use them together!
I chose Cristalle today. I just love it during the height of summer.
Wearing Vanille 44 for the first time…
It’s quite nice but it doesn’t replace the bang and buck of Vanilla Flash for me.
Vanilla perfumes are the most interchangeable to my nose I think. I smell variation but not along the lines of the differences I can discern for florals, orientals, etc.
I was really happy Vanille 44 didn’t thrill me. Vanilla Flash on the other hand: pure love.
still sick and tired so I decided to make a dent in my body splash collection! today it’s & other stories’ Havana Blues, which is quite cheap and smells of jasminey, gently lemony florals over a nicely wilted tobacco-y note – nothing is actually pungent or real-smelling enough to smell like actual jasmine and tobacco, but it’s darn good anyway, in a slightly wistful, summery way. I quite like several of & other stories’ scents, they’re cheap but distinct and not dull.
Testing out Coqui Coqui Rosas Secas. Lovely rose, even if it doesn’t really do anything new or unexpected. I thought I might get bored with it so I had some Mohur ready to go, but I do really like the tobacco drydown; it’s nice and dry without being heavy or sweet.
Hmmm. Sounds intriguing!
Jardin en Med for today. I’m not sure why but this always makes me feel like I’m on a vacation in Italy (though I’ve never actually been there).
I have been tidying up my decants section, and am wearing a spritz of Avignon on one hand and Kenzo Amour Indian Holi on the other. The former is beautiful, but I can’t decide whether it’s actually a perfume, even in the winter. The latter I didn’t remember I had and is much more summery.
SOTD Bond No.9 Fire Island.
AA Herba Fresca for me today. I don’t have too many scents form back in the day for Friday, and the ones I have are a bit heavy (Hugo Boss Deep Red and Bennetton Tribu) for the warm weather we are having. I’ll have to do some digging and see what I can find!
I just finished my small decant of Herba Fresca yesterday. It reminded me of a mojito. That’s a good thing.
Herba fresco sounds lovely & refreshing, I’ve over bought this summer, so it’s on my ‘summer ’17’ list, along with Cristalle edt.
Aedes de Venustas Signature ( not the L’Artisan), which I found for a steal at an antique store. Unique and lovely though it annoys me on my clothing so I have to be careful spraying it.
It almost smells like the idea of Kyoto put into a real perfume, ornamented with rhubarb and something piney.
What an amazing find!, I really loved this one when I tried it.
I was shocked to find it! 90% full for 1/20 of the price. I’d never even smelled it before but I snapped it up. I almost felt guilty.
Dame Perfumery Mandarin, Neroli & Cedar. Zesty and uplifting. Great for the middle of the week.
Have a good one, peeps.
I need to try this one again. I didn’t care for it the first time, but I might change my mind now that the weather has. Or maybe the weather’s made me delusional.
Well, the weather may have made you delusional, but I think that’s a separate issue… ???? I’ve worn it a couple times before, but I didn’t realize until today how good the projection is (I was only wearing a few drops, as mine is a sample vial). I also realized how good a unisex scent it is. Do give it another shot! I can’t quite put my finger on the specific reason, but I think it is a scent that might be more likeable in summer…as long as you like neroli.
I do like neroli . . . unless I don’t. Sometimes it smells like cigarettes, but not in a pleasant way.
This is now my project tomorrow!
I started out in Bronze Goddess, and now that it’s faded I’m mulling over what will be next. My new favorite is Dilettante, but my little decant is emptying fast. I love it so much that it might mean an FB is lurking on the horizon. I could wear it year round.
Tauer Noontide Petals. Somehow I expected that something with the word “Petals” in its name would be more flowery and delicate. It makes more of a statement than I expected.
Continuing with Pretty Florals Week. SOTD is NV Pichola, yum.
Yesterday did some sampling, followed by a perfume snack of Demeter Honeysuckle. It’s the most realistic honeysuckle scent I’ve found, reminds me exactly of being a kid, pulling honeysuckle flowers off the vine, breaking off the stem-end and licking off the little drop of juice that came out. Good summer memory.
Dame does a reasonable honeysuckle soliflore. If you need variety…personally, i find it leans towards jasmine ( up close )
Love Pichola. You smell great.
Noontide Petals does make a statement on me, too, but I do like to wear it when it’s hot outside. I must put some of that on in the next few days. Today I am wearing AG Mandragore. Some of the AG perfumes remind me of the floral and other good smells of the farmers’ market, and since I went there today, I just had to spritz this on.
I won a slightly used 30ml bottle of A.G’s Ninfeo Mio on eBay, which came yesterday, and it’s absolutely perfect in this heatwave we’re having, so refreshing & satisfying, serves a similar purpose as the bottle of Corona with a wedge of lime I’m drinking now with supper. Also wore Fleur de sel this morning, which I really love, but doesn’t last long, but very happy to re spray with N.M!
Hello, all. It’s a dreary day here–wet and cold and cold and wet and for some variety, very wet and very cold. I long for some proper sun. But: That Lecture seemed to go OK yesterday, so I’m happy. To celebrate, I’m wearing a tunic thing I like, all soft but bright colours, and heavenly Coromandel. I feel all warm on the inside and lit up against the winter, and I’m trailing interesting clouds of chocolate-y patchouli behind me wherever I go. Also, a colleague used a word yesterday that appeals to me very much: “nonsenseness”, which she declared was rife in our school and in the world. I feel that “nonsenseness” must be a more intense form of nonsense, the mother of it all, perhaps. She was very funny when she pronounced the word, sort of like an indignant lamb giving a serious judgment. So there we are: Wednesday gave me “nonsenseness”. I’m off to find out what Thursday has lined up. Be safe, my beautifully-scented friends.
Dame Black Flower Mexican Vanilla matched with a cup of chai latte…very little difference scent-wise. Listening to the wind whistling in the trees and reading Schubert’s
Winter Journey :anatomy of an Obsession by singer/ academic Ian Bostridge – a beautifully produced book with good quality paper. Paper quality has gone downhill on most mass produced novels and the covers are so flimsy…so it’s nice to have something with a bit of weight. Off on my own Winterreise today…tent, sleeping bag and a torch to read with. Happy weekend folks! I will take Magie Noire. For Friday.
I’m such a big Winterreise fan. The book sounds interesting, and it’s true, Winterreise can easily become an obsession. Hoping you have a great trip!
It’s a beautiful book. A small square volume with illustrations . I really reccommend it …a bit similar in style and tone to Richard Mabey’s Cabaret of Plants, or Robert McFarlane or Edmund de Waal.
Have you got the hardcover or the paperback?
Lush makes some beautiful soaps. I was marveling at a new blue one I saw outside their shop just recently. All these gradations of blue, like marble.. so pretty.
I’m still loving my SOTD which is Cuir de Lancome. It’s softened up some but I still get a good whiff of it.
I’m wearing Rose Ikebana today. I really wanted to wear Une Rose, but it’s 94 degrees today. I decided to wear Rose Ikebana instead, and it’s absolutely what I needed.
RI probably beats UR at 94 😉
SOTD is Portrait of a Lady. Gonna have to break down and buy a bottle of that one, too. . . My full bottle list is growing beyond my budget 🙁
So good!
Its been a hectic couple of days, so little time to think about perfume. But today I grabbed Seville a l’aube. It may have been a bit much for likely the hottest day in the year, but nevermind ????
I like white florals in the heat.
I like Seville a l’aube and most orientals in the heat (including Shalimar). You smell great!
Reading throught your comments just now, I had an inspired idea for a perfume today, and now that I’ve reached the end of the comments, I’ve completely forgotten what it was! I’ve decided to go with Bois des Iles, which is always lovely.
That has happened to me more than once!
I’m in EL Sensuous today. It’s rather nice out today (it’s not 90F yay!) and I’m looking forward to doing some exercising outside- if my body will allow it. I got back on the weight training wagon and holy crap am I sore.
Late today and wearing one of the new D.S. and Durga perfumes, Atlantic Rose. Unfortunately I really like it. Rose, a bit of berry, and salt, with just the right airiness for a hot summer’s day, but it also lasts pretty well I think.
I used the last of a decant of Bas de Soie today. I wanted something cool and it hit the spot.
SOTD was the sample of “Années Folles” (Parfumerie Moderne) that I picked up in Jovoy at the weekend. “The fragrance features lavender, thyme, nutmeg, geranium, vetiver, tonka bean, benzoin and patchouli.”, says Fragrantica. On me, a momentary delicious boozy opening changes in seconds to a brilliant skankiness, and a bit later to the richest drydown. I really do recommend this for a trial, even though in the end I’m not sure I like it as much *on me* as I like it *as a perfume*, if that makes sense. Also, today was slightly too hot for it; it would suit cooler weather better.
We’re scent twins today, Robin. 🙂
Hey twin!!
Well I’m getting pretty political info fatigued right now, so it’s a nice break to come over here and just talk about perfume. Robin, I really appreciate your ban on those kinds of topics.
My SOTD is Coromandel. DH just smelled it on me and really likes it. I made Mexican tonight and somehow Coromandel really pairs well with smokey chili smells.
I really enjoyed Kevin’s review of Zoologist Bat today and I’m thinking about getting a travel size bottle of it.
We all need a break from politics!!
I wore Kelly Caleche edt. It has been a favorite of mine since its release, but I doubt I’ll want to wear it again. July 20th is my birthday and a man I’m crazy about dumped me. Not a great scent memory. Oh well…
Oh that is just terrible, PekeFan! So sorry for your very bad day. If it helps at all, some of my favorite scents have suffered similar fates, having the bad luck of being worn during events I don’t want to remember. But eventually, my love of the fragrance becomes stronger than the bad memories, and the perfume can return to me. Kelly Caleche will get another chance with you. The guy does not deserve one.
I’m so sorry, PekeFan 🙁
My SOTD is Guerlain Terracotta. Perfect for the latest LA heat wave, it’s delicious and tropical but not suffocating. As good in air conditioning as it is on a hot sidewalk. Particularly well-suited to wafting about in the dry evening breeze, the palms and bamboo rattling and the city humming.
