A Tuesday in July. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm extra tired again today. I'm hoping Soivohle' Jasmine Summer will wake me up, but I suspect it's going to take a third cup of tea as well.
Reminder: on 7/15, wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the Stump 18 oz teapot, which you can find anywhere (Amazon has them). I have two of them and am thinking about getting a third.
A sample of L’Artisan Al Oudh. Maybe it’s more impressive sprayed lavishly, but dabbed on (even with a fairly heavy hand) it’s a standard rosy oud with a decided laundry-detergent overtone. I’m not a fan.
Gosh, have not smelled it since it came out. But don’t remember it being more than competent.
In a moment of weakness, I ordered it when it was on sale on one of the discounters, and I’ve almost never worn it. Might break it out to try it again, and then put it up for swap at the next swapmeet….if I can get it together to play for that thing, that is.
Interesting – I get an incense-woodsy-animalic (aka “barnyard”) oud that feels slightly transparent. Agree it is competent, not a huge love. However, it IS great for layering. I highly recommend spritzing some Ostara over Al Oudh for an animalic narcissus!
This was horrendously skanky on me – pure BO.
Also in Soivohle — currently sampling Geranium Rose Mint which won’t be going on my full bottle list. Not even my favorite house can get me to like mint in a perfume.
Hey cousin!
I missed that one. Need to place a Soivhole order sometime, since there are several I haven’t tried and I want a bottle of Violets and Rainwater. I like mint in perfume but geranium is often rose geranium, which makes me think of cookies and feels all wrong as a personal scent.
Rose geranium cookies??
Yep. When I was a kid, Mom and I used to make a batch of Christmas cookies in the spring for her Garden Club Easter party. They’re an excellent rolled-out sugar cookie flavored with nutmeg, then iced and decorated with colored sugars. For springtime we cut them into bunnies and flowers, pressed various scented geranium leaves into the bottom of the dough before we baked them (peeling the actual leaves off when they had cooled), and decorated the icing with pastel sugars, rose petals, and rose geranium blossoms. It left them moderately scented and mildly flavored with geranium.
How fascinating! I adore any type of geranium but never knew that anyone ate it/cooked with it. I might have to try it 🙂
I’m with you. I think we just tend to think toothpaste, right? I don’t want to smell mint in a perfume or any body care products. Just no.
Oh but Roma! (Laura Biagiotti) I think the mint in that balances well with the warm vanilla-ish base. Makes it wearable in warm weather.
I’ll have to resniff my Roma. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed mint in it. Not that I would mind it.
Super tired myself, couldn’t get to sleep before midnight and then up at 6am. Morning nap needed.
I’m trying a new scent today, although its been out there for a while, but with my penchant for all chocolate focused scents I recently ordered a sample of HdP 1969 Parfum de Revolte. Verdict: very interesting.. I get the chocolate, but I also smell strong rose and lots of peach. I like it! It’s funky, but also sexy, I think. Reminds me a little of Rose Rebelle Respawn for it’s rose/choc notes, and even PHI since that’s very rose/fruity/spice to me.
Good lasting power too! That’s always a plus in my book.
It must be something going around, the July tired.
I got it too.
See? It’s an epidemic.
OOh I saw this recently and didn’t try it – will try to make sure I do next time, sounds maybe more winter than summer though?
Where can u try HDP in London Sophie?
I think you can do this one year round. The notes may seem fall/winter, but it’s not that dense.
Apparently it’s Angelina Jolie’s scent. If that means anything to anyone — /:
I tried 1969 but could barely smell it! Same with Rose Rebel. I need to try them again but sprayed for full effect. The notes all sound right up my alley.
Oh wow!!! 1969 smelled overwhelmingly loud for me! Is not it fascinating, how different our olfactory sense is.
Dang that sounds good. I had a sample and gave it away without trying!! The notes sound like something I would love
I felt that way for a couple of weeks, but suspect it was tree pollen, probably juniper.
Weekend à Deauville. Tea is the last of my Damman Frères Calabria.
Beautifully chic.
I had never thought of it that way, but it is. I hadn’t worn it in ages, but have surprised myself how much I like it. I tend to like Nicolaïs anyway, but this is so much better than I used to think.
A perfect summer day perfume!
I’m wearing Moschino Couture!, which is a favorite. I wish they hadn’t discontinued this.
Cartier Zeste de Soleil. Summery fresh.
Yum.
I’m testing samples of Memo perfumes that came in the mail yesterday. Fun! So far my favorites are Italian Leather, Irish Leather and Kedu. Of the others Inle and French Leather need more skin time. African Leather is not going to work –way too masculine for me.
The price point is high but Memo sells travel sizes of most of their line from their website. Neiman Marcus has a few of them too. (I’m not affiliated with any of these companies.)
I need to sample a few more from Memo — I’ve liked a few so far, though one or two had the dreaded shower curtain note (I think Italian Leather was one of these — so good, and then so vinyl-y on me). African Leather has been far and away my favorite, and it’s interesting that you find it masculine because to me it was the most feminine of the lot. Just goes to show you that trying to ascribe gender to perfume is a subjective exercise, at best!
Oh, me too, me too! AL is so gorgeous, and far more feminine on me than the other three leathers. As you say, though, Suzy Q, the price point is high :-/
OK, you all have convinced me to try African Leather again but I’m going to wait until winter 🙂
My husband bought me a bottle of Italian Leather for our anniversary and I LOVE it. I’m with you on the African Leather – didn’t work at all. Have you tried Moon Leather or Jannat? I liked them a lot too.
What a thoughtful gift! I haven’t tried the two you mentioned. I only sampled the ones that are available in travel sizes. Do you like them?
Just went on the site and couldn’t find any travel sizes. Am I looking in the wrong place?
Look under “Travel”.
Got it. Thanks!
OMG there is a four-leather travel variety pack!!! *drool*
Time to start dropping birthday hints to the boyfriend!
On another topic, work is double-plus-crazy at the moment, but after mid-August it will either have settled down or I’ll have been fired. When do you leave Toulouse? It’s still our favourite city of our tour earlier this year (joint with Carcassonne) and we should get a weekend away in early Autumn.
And now I know that there are travel sizes. 🙂
You have enabled without even trying! Well done.
Yes…now I know too.
I have a question for the modulators: can we have kind of a “sticky” with discussion of european online shops? There was a little bit of this discussion a while ago in a “scent of the day” thread, and I had it bookmarked for a while, but now my bookmark is gone, and I can’t find it anymore. It had quite a bit of useful info and personal experiences
Dang, sorry, this was not supposed to be here
I’m still dragging a bit too, but feel better than I did. I took yesterday to “rest” and I think it helped. I couldn’t actually relax because the piles of documents and receipts that needed to be sorted and filed was making me twitchy, but it was a physically undemanding job and getting a handle on it made me feel better. I also allowed myself to get sidetracked and found myself perusing the field guide to caterpillars, sorting an ancient pile of mostly-unusable gel pens, and cleaning out my old college backpack (how had I not done this, like, ten years ago?).
Today it’s extremely windy out and I HAVE to mow the lawn because we’re going to Mom’s tomorrow and it can’t wait, but I’m planning to take extra time and take more frequent water breaks. I’m wearing No. 5 again, for fortitude. Thanks, everyone, for your concern yesterday.
Glad you’re feeling better today.
No. 5 for fortitude and solidarity! I wore it last night. 🙂
I feel your pain. I was outside watering the Bonsai and giving them some iron supplement, yes, my trees get supplements, when I just could not stand being bathed in sweat for another instant! I came inside and did not venture out again. I also took a two hour nap. Lots and lots of spritzes of Elie Saab Couture L’eau made me feel almost human again. Be careful out there.
Catching up on the Blooms sample pack from May this week.
SOTD is “Otis & Me” from Jasmin Saraï. Listed notes are black pepper, bergamot, cardamom absolute, Turkish rose absolute, incense resinoid and coffee grains. The opening of cardamom and ginger is fresh in a sharp/ sweet way. I don’t get the rose. The dry-down of coffee and incense smells to me quite like a woody note I’ve smelled elsewhere (possible iso-e super? I wouldn’t swear to it and you shouldn’t believe me if I did).
It’s a fun experience but isn’t touching my heart. :^)
That is a beautiful teapot and so cheerful. Vintage (as in 09 or so) No19 EDP, sometimes I wonder why I wear anything else. Hope you feel less tired Robin – and I sympathise, having been really sleepy for a while.
I sometimes have that feeling about No. 19 as well, the “why do I ever wear anything else?” (And then I wear something else I love and I forget. 🙂 )
Haha, me too. That’s how we have so many “favorites” 😉
So true!!
Joining the exhausted crowd, and splashing on an ample amount of Santa Maria Novella Caprifoglia in preparation for hitting the road for our little family vacation. I know I’d said I wasn’t going to bring any perfume, but who was I kidding? My blind buy of a little travel size Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert showed up yesterday, and it seems like the perfect accompaniment to a summer jaunt. It reminds me a lot of Chanel 19, but with more citrus and yes, that “green tea” note that doesn’t really smell like green tea but does evoke a sort of serene, fresh, yogini-who-had-green-tea-for-breakfast sort of vibe.
Have a nice time!
Like that description.
SOTD is vintage Balenciaga Le Dix, on what is supposedly our last cloudy/slightly rainy day for a while. Warm weather will allegedly return just in time for the Friday summer-scent theme.
You smell great!
Forgot to put on perfume again today, so I reached into my lab drawer of underloved rollerballs and gave myself some generous glides of Aromachology Sophisticated and Sensual, which strikes me as neither the one nor the other, but has instead turned me into a green apple.
False advertising!
Joining the draggers today. I was binge watching Transparent til late. I think we need to incorporate the midday siesta in this country.
I’m in a full wearing Le Labo Iris 39 for the first time and am liking it so far.
My only Le Labo is Santal 33, and I’m very curious about the others. I think I’ve heard good things about Patchouli and another one, but not Iris. I hope to hear more about it.
I think the Iris is divisive – like the whole line in a way. I don’t care for it a – too sweet on me – but others love love love it. Neroli whatever number it is is the perfect smell like a day at the beach sent for me and many people love Rose 31 and loads of others.
My fav is Ylang 49. I like the Patchouli, but it’s a little too smoky for me to wear.
I remember a discussion here about the iris and it seemed to be a polarizing one for iris lovers, though I’m not sure why. For me it falls somewhere between Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile and Dior Homme. It’s a bit rooty for a while and then seems to become warmer and rounder. I just think it smells pretty.
I’m on holiday in central Spain and it’s very very hot! I’ve taken a handful of samples with me to use up and to see which lives best in the heat. The one that is outstanding is Jubilation 25 which I love but not decided whether to buy Salome instead as it’s cheaper and to me similar. But J25 is the bees knees…..it hangs on even in the 35degees plus heat that we’re having and stays beautifully on my clothes……FB for me when I get home as its my birthday in a few weeks…Leo…..and I feel old enough now to carry it off????
I’m in Spain too, yesterday was so hot I spent the day covered with a wet towel under the ventilator! J25 is a lovely and courageous choice ????
On the beach, under a parasol, in Vamp a New York. I share Austenfan’s love for this, FB worthy. Reading the Silk Roads thanks to Annikky’s reading list. An important book to understand the world. It mirrors a book my husband reads, Connectography, about the currently developed new silk roads and how in the end trade seems to ensure stability.
That’s on my reading list too. Currently reading “The Edge of the World: How the North Sea Made Us Who We Are” by Michael Pye. Not as dense as Silk Roads but interesting and enjoyable nonetheless.
And I wish Vamp were available here even for a sniff. I dont think I’ve met a tuberose I dont like 🙂
At work in a very light misting of JHAG Miss Charming. Off to the P.O. in a bit for work plus a couple of sample packages to new perfume friends. 😀
Finished off my OJ Osmanthus sample today. I liked this one, but don’t think it’s FB worthy.
Agreed…I still have to finish my sample but not compelled to buy it.
I am testing The Different Company Adjatay today. It is more flowers than leather, unlike I expected, but it is a very pretty floral nicely modified by leather, and evokes the image in the blurb (tuberose flower forgotten in a leather bag) quite vividly. I will have to wear it couple of times more, without preconceived expectations. I might fall in love with it, for all I know.
Ooh, that sounds rather nice 🙂
That sounds very nice. I have not seen many reviews of it
I received first compliment from a co-worker passing through my room. It’s the first time any comment was made 🙂
I really like this and am hoping it will be the one to break my person of his dislike of tuberose. I got a decant from surrender to chance, but otherwise haven’t seen it for sale in the U.S. Sigh.
It strikes me now as elegant and quietly luxurious. I have not met the djinn or incubus they speak of in the blurb anywhere along the road.
I don’t think I’m familiar with Adjatay, but your description makes me think I need to try it.
SOTD a sample of Bvlgari The Noir, which has finally arrived in store here. I have the other 4 teas and thought I’d love this one, but I’m not sure about it at all. It has a medicinal smell that is familiar from some other fragrance I can’t put my finger on. I’ll try it again in different weather.
SOTE Roberto Cavalli Oro. Cheap n cheerful.
Perthgirl
This one is tempting me! Let us know how it wears for you?
It was just okay on me – not as leathery as I hoped.
Because citrus scents and colognes seem to disappear completely on me, my go-to summer scent seems to be Eau Suave by Parfums d’Empire. This stuff lasts longer than most everything else does on me, which means I’m actually able to smell myself a couple hours after spraying. The novelty!
Doctor’s appointment soon – wish me luck. Pain has disappeared but I just want to make sure all is working properly.
Eau Suave is nice. And glad to hear you are feeling better.
Hope you’re okay. I missed commenting much yesterday.
Eau Suave is one of the few PdE scents I haven’t tried. I really need to complete my experience of the line, since so many of them are FBW for me.
I missed a lot yesterday too (stupid work interferring with NST-ing) and it sounds like you were having a rough time too. Hope you’re feeling better!
And as I’m sure it goes without saying, I would highly recommend experiencing Eau Suave. One of my two favorites (along with Azemour) of a well-done line.
I hope you both continue to feel better.
Good luck with doctors today.
Eau Suave didn’t last very long on me at all, so strange how our skin is all so different, part of the fun tho, so fascinating.
Perfume twins, fortunately not pain twins and hope yours stays gone!
This, and your decant inspired me to try this one finally. Thank you! A springy rose for a gal who isn’t necessarily a rose lover.
Wearing both At the Beach 1966 and House of Cherry Bomb Tobacco Cognac. 1966 has fast become a favorite for hot days when I want a 100% unisex scent, and it seems to layer well with everything, especially scents that lend a bit of richness and sweetness.
1966 is a great scent! I have not yet tried the Cherry Bomb.
Joining the dragging butt today. Should have known better than to go window shopping at Amazon since it’s Prime Day there and I’m a Prime Member. Still figuring out a SOTD because on one hand, I want to wear Memoir and on the other hand, it’s really hot outside and I would like to wear Courtesan in the heat.
I cannot find a single thing I need from Prime Day! Unless I’m forgetting, same thing happened last year.
It did happen last year but my Kindle Fire was still okay. I could not refuse a deal on a new Kindle Fire and some jeans. Nothing has been catching my fancy perfume wise and I really don’t need a new bottle of anything right now!
I ordered two of the Amazon dash buttons on sale for 99 cents each. My technology-obsessed son has been clamoring for a chance to test them out. I have a feeling he will be unimpressed, but it’s fun to give something new a try.
Prime Day is a joke. To me, at least. The only thing I would buy is a new computer, and I wasted an entire day last year clicking at exactly the moment the computer deals started, ending up #24,537 or whatever huge number on the wait list.
It’s muggy here (and will probably dump a bunch of rain later), so I’m in Silences pdt, big ol’ galbanum bomb. Feels like sitting in front of a fan.
Yes!! Great description of Silences
Happy Tuesday Everyone! Decided to dip into my samples today to see what could be a summer scent that I have never worn before. I went with Daisy Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs. This scent is described as a bubbly floral – fruity fragrance that radiates a sunny and sparkly energy. It is a pretty scent, but I feel it is for the younger girls to enjoy. I definitely would have worn this in high school.
My daughter wore this and Daisy, exclusively, all through high school. Could not talk her into anything else. As a perfume lover, that was a tough pill for me to swallow. ????
I’m in Mimosa Indigo by Atelier Cologne today.
Very nice!
Sampling Hermessence Muguet Porcelaine and it’s making me crazy trying to figure out what fruit this reminds me of!! There’s LOTV to be sure, but it is making me think of an overripe pear? Some white fruit past its prime…?
Maybe melon and/or cucumber. I really enjoyed it…but some melon haters out there (you know who you are 😉 ) have taken issue with it…
M e l o n!!!! That’s it!!
I can feel my teeth sinking into something green! I’m certain I had lots of this when I was little, a sort of sticky-sweet, spongy fruit. I’ve tried to figure it out forever and have failed utterly. I would buy melon but I’m not 100 % convinced.
Giving an oil from Auric Blends a test drive today. It’s called ‘Love’. Really enjoying it but it’s hard to discern what actually might be in it, as far as notes go. Seems like a fantastic smell as opposed to a proper perfume but still…
Hiram Green Voyage. Beautiful creation
Love the dry down. You smell great!
So beautiful!
Oh, and speaking of Hiram Green, I finally got my sample of Dilettante which, IMHO, is not for the faint of heart. It’s intense! Very rich and…pretty, but sadly not my cup of tea. I’m going to give it a little more time as I’m fascinated that it’s an all natural scent.
Interesting. I tried it last night from an also newly arrived sample and thought it might be the Orange blossom for me. It didn’t seem super big, but I was working from a dabber. But further testing required!
I’m wearing Caron Aimez Moi today. I have a decant of this and I’m considering a full bottle. It would be a nice souvenir from our Paris in September 🙂
That’s a pretty one.
Parfum de Therese, for the third day running. My summer staple.
You smell very beautiful.
It is supposedly summer but here in Portland, OR it is overcast and will probably rain. Therefore SOTD = Dune.
You either love or hate the aldehyde overdose in Dune, but there is no doubt that they are responsible for its unique character. Otherwise it would be just another cozy sandalwood with rose. The aldehydes render the sandalwood transparent, so this would actually work well in hotter weather.
I’m not an aldehyde lover, but Dune works for me. Such a great scent.
I recently saw perfume version of Dune on etsy. Wonder what that’s like!
AG Passion, definitely a summer favorite (although I’m not sure I could narrow it down to 10 – top 20 maybe). I’ve got both EDT and EDP versions of this, and decided on the EDT today as more office-appropriate (i.e. less sultry).
I’ve never tried the edt but the edp is definitely sultry. Gorgeous though.
I’m extra tired today too! This contagion is spreading like wildfire apparently. Early morning blood work, breakfast, then clearing out and donating my entire book collection. This will be my third delivery to the used bookstore with another huge load!
While doing the above, I was sporting Spiritueuse Double Vanille. I’m ready for a nap.????
You’re donating your entire book collection?
I feel like the only furniture we purchase these days is book shelves! Even with e-books and audible we still purchase lots of books.
Yes! Books I have been collecting and packing around with me for the past 40+ years. Still had some of my favorites from my teen years, and they’re just sitting around collecting dust. I am in “get rid of all non-essential items” mode. It’s quite liberating ????
It took me years but I finally got my husband onto a Kindle. We still have a ton of books to sort through and get rid of. Benefit of a smaller apartment is the limited bookshelf space.
I like my kindle too, but still don’t feel like it could ever replace a physical book. But then, I’m old ????
I love my Kindle, but there are some books I prefer to keep in hardcopy.
I love when friends come over and browse my bookshelves and I can lend them a book or two . . . one of the main reasons I continue to prefer books to my kindle.
That is a great reason to keep your books. I used to don the same but as I’ve gotten older my circle of friends has shrunk for various reasons. The used book store I donated my books to resells some of them, but others are donated to the local prisons and other facilities focused on literacy. So, I feel confident they will arrive in the right hands to be read and reread ????
Heh! When my grandmother died, my mother packed up TWELVE boxes (those were empty cases for office paper, from my dad’s CPA office) of her paperbacks, to donate to the charity shop. Then there were two more bookcases of her hardbacks…
Those hardbacks are back breakers. I had a ton of them and had to divvy them up. 12 must be the magic number because box numbers 10, 11, and 12 went out the door today.
SOTD again is Santal 33, but in the office this doesn’t seem to last half as long as at home. I’m sorry I didn’t bring it along. We are heading for a hot spell (90s) so I expect to be spraying lavishly all week.
Robin, I love those Stump pots but don’t have even one. I have a couple of other teapots. Why would you need three Stumps? Is it another collection?
Need seems like a word unknown to this blog????!
I’ve got more than 10 teapots. But these look very practical 😉
I think it’s a very simple and attractive tea pot, but “Stump Pot”?! What kind of name is that? Call it a Petite Pot or something a bit more, I don’t know, appealing. Just my opinion, which no one asked for, but being the generous soul I am, I thought I’d voice it anyway ????
It is sad, very, that I like to make tea more often than I like to wash teapots. So then sometimes one is soaking in the efferdent to remove the tea stains, and I only have one available, and then I can’t make another pot of tea until I’m done with the one I am drinking, so I can’t have a pot of green mint tea waiting before I have finished my pot of dandelion chicory, etc etc. It’s all silly and I want a third but will probably stick with the two I have.
I think my friend has that tea pot in green! I live the orange though if I’m buying something orange I prefer pop orange.
Went with 5 o’clock au Gingembre, which I could bathe in. I wish Serge had a 100ml option sometimes.
I love that kind of aesthetic! Sadly (in the case), when it comes to the preferred style, it is more Anthropology-like colorful/vintag-ey/over-the-top feeling that I prefer. As it is already mixed enough, I decided against introducing such sparse-modern odjects
Starting Summer staples week today with a year-round staple, good old Vetiver Tonka.
Twins! I love Vetiver Tonka.
Odd experience this afternoon. I was browsing in John Lewis and sprayed a squirt of Jour d’Hermes Absolu on the back of my hand. When I got on the train quarter of an hour later I suddenly noticed it had turned bright red, like ink. It wiped off quite easily with a tissue. No idea why that would have happened. I’m pretty sure I didn’t touch anything red while the perfume was still wet.
How strange..my newly acquired bottle of Jour d”Hermes Absolu does NOT turn red, thank goodness!
Must try Vetiver Tonka next time I’m in London, it sounds lovely.
Falling asleep in front of my computer and lots of calculations and plans still waiting for me to be finished, no matter what, by the end of the day. Up since 4am and in the office since 6am. Coffee is not helping that much…. Hope that my sotd Womanity byThierry Mugler helps me regain some energy with its sweet-salty vibe. I wish I could spray the whole bottle on me now, LOL, but I would be fired if such an idea could come true. I just dabbed some and I am enjoying it.
I had an iced coffee and now I just want a nap more.
We don’t do stickys here, so sorry! But give me more clues and I will see if I can find the discussion you’re looking for…
Best of good days, NST. The tiredness you’re suffering in TOH has spread Downunder, too. I was shattered yesterday, and I’m awake early, so it’s not looking promising for today either. I haven’t showered and dressed yet, but I have indulged in a couple of sprays of Coromandel to keep me and Dakkie company as we cuddle and huddle under a blankie on the sofa so as not to wake the dear man. I’m drinking very hot tea; Dakkie is thinking Deep Thoughts with his paws folded under, how cats do; Auckland is beginning to stir around us.
I love Coromandel–it’s perfect for my present occupation of doing nothing–but I don’t think I’ll wear it to work today. I feel like declaring my presence even more, so I’m thinking Epic or Lyric or Loukhoum…I will report back when the day begins properly.
All these options are wonderful, I haven’t tried Loukhoum tho, it is on my list to try in the Autumn.
and I ended up in none of these above! having dithered for fully five minutes, I sprayed Queen (the Queen Latifah one, just in case there’s another) and I’m wrapped up all warm and sultry. Well, semi-sultry, I expect. But I’m so tired at the beginning of my Wednesday that I fear the end of it…I couldn’t be bothered dressing, if you see what I mean, and I’m wearing distressed jeans and a trucker shirt, boots and a flat cap. I think I look vaguely like a Cockney delivery boy from the 1950s, and I should be whistling a cheeky tune and shouting something like, “Right you are, Guv’nor!” But you know what? Not a single solitary damn is being given in this office today. If anybody comments on my outré appearance, I’ll take a leaf out of Dakkie’s book, and simply fall asleep in front of them!
Heehee- love the disparity between you’re sultry scent and boyish clothes- certainly no cockney barrow boy ever smelt so good!, you’re work colleagues are lucky to have such a wonderfully scented coleague to cheer up their day!
Haven’t tried Queen, but read many good thing about it on NST, off to look it up on Fragrantica now.
Joining the tired bandwagon today…also concerned about my job as I am wondering if the corporate powers that be may close my office down based on a conversation I had this morning with a higher up…
But I am choosing to ignore the possibility right not and not worry for today…
Instead I am focusing on my house divided challenge…wearing 1932 and La Pausa today…I smell quite good. And I continue to debate what other Exclusifs I might need to acquire before September…
Oh dear, good luck!
That’s a cool looking teapot, not least because the lid makes it look like one of those little syrup pitchers like at Denny’s or IHOP. I like syrup. Hmm, maybe I should’ve had pancakes for breakfast…
SOTD is Elie Saab Le Parfum. Keep cool (or warm) and have a great day, NSTers.
I knew it was reminding me of something!
I don’t necessarily have the dragging tireds today, but this is the second day I’ve woken up with very puffy eyes. I think Nor Cal allergies are hitting. Heading home Thursday, so that is good.
Ostara today. Heading from heat to SF fog again. Ostara works with its wetness. I have a little travel thing of Narciso so may spritz that on later depending on the Ostara staying power.
Two calls before 8 am – one from “FTC” and the other from
“UPS”. In neither case did I have time to mess with them. So I interrupted, informed then they were thieves and liars and told them to stop calling and hung up. If I’d had more time I would have played along with them. Sweepstakes cons.
Oh Lizzie B, it breaks my heart every time I hear about the scams being pulled on the elderly. It’s truly astonishing what levels of sophistication they’ve achieved, and they actually almost got me once when I was visiting my parents. It’s particularly traumatizing when they make death threats against a family member that they say they have kidnapped, or is in the hospital and needs immediate emergency treatment and has no insurance. After one too many times, I called the police station and they sent out a detective to talk to my dad about all the various scams that are pulled, and I hope you will consider that at some point as it’s very helpful.
Good on you! I wish you had. Some scammers called my (immigrant, naturalized American citizen) parents claiming to be the IRS and told them that if they didn’t pay $30,000 in back taxes, they’d be deported. Luckily, my mother is quite intrepid and called the police on them. (Not sure if it helped.)
Those scammers are really terrible these days. They called my college-aged son and really scared him initially. Then he got on, thank goodness!
I’ve also found that Ostara works beautifully on an overcast, or rainy summer day.
I had a call from 646 area code. I pick it up. A very heavily accented dude tells me he is from Microsoft calling about a virus on my computer. I think I was not in a mood to just hang up, so we have a nice chat, with me acting scared and grateful for them alerting me. He then asked to be granted a remote control to my machine. I told him, “I did not know how”. He was explaining it to me, going through in great details and me acting all dumb. After wasting his time for about 10 minutes I told him I have a Mac and work for FBI Fraud detection team and I have been recording the conversation. Never seen anyone hang up so quickly.
I am not even mentioning all the calls I get because of exclusive cruise offers, magazine offers, lottery offer, other offers. The Do Not Call list is worthless!!
That’s a good one, will borrow it next time I get one of those nuisance calls.
A glorious sunny summer day, wearing Yves Rocher Monoi dry oil with Guerlain Terracotta spritzed over top.
I quite like that dry oil. It smells and feels great, doesn’t it? I got the sparkling kind, so that I can walk around feeling like a princess.
That sounds lovely.
Hey there, Terracotta twin! 🙂
Woke up to a very cold morning! No certain where summer went in NE Canada, but having the doggie bed warmers was darn handy.
Needed a boost. so lavishly applied Nobile 1942 La Danza delle Libellule.
Dancing cinnamon apple with vanilla, musk and citrus. I enjoy this sparkling version so much more than the extra-strong flanker they issued last year. That one strikes me a heavy and plodding, while the original sparkles.
I have the original too but wasn’t aware of a flanker.
It is an “Intense” version, but IMHO, tries to hard.

The playful nature of the original is one of the things I love about it.
You smell fabulous.
And “libellule” is one of my favorite French words. It has a musical sound that makes me think of a dragonfly darting about.
I always read that word as “Lulubelle”, one of my Tonkinese girls being named Tallulah Belle.
You smell great. I feel the same about the Extrait or whatever they called it. It’s too syrupy and the lack of sparkle makes it very boring. The whole reason La Danza, etc. is so great is that it has a sweet/gourmand side that peaks out but doesn’t go all bakery exhaust. I think it reminds me of having baked apples for dessert when I was very young. They smelled decadent but were usually mild and slightly tart, being sweetened only with a few raisins by my health-conscious mom.
Hello all!
Been out of town for a few days, and missed seeing the scents of the day! 🙂
SOTD: DKNY Be Delicious. Another easy, fresh summer scent….
When I see a Be Delicious tester bottle I always stop to hold it then give it a sniff. Such fun!
Ok, first time commenting here on NST, I have to tell you all how very much I enjoy reading all the reviews, articles and comments. For the past couple of years y’all (yep- southern) have freely offered some wonderful knowledge to what was then a new perfumista!!!
So for today, SOTD is Andy Tauer LDDM – I love almost all things Tauer. And Robin – thanks to you I had to try the Rose Delight body oil – yum! Thank you to each and every person who comments on this sight, I think you’re all totally fab!!
Hello and welcome, and so glad you’re enjoying the Rose Delight if I am to blame for your purchase 😉
Welcome, Cecilia!
Welcome!
Welcome Cecilia! So glad you joined us!
Hello Cecilia!
Welcome!!!!
Sampling Mona di Orio’s Bohea Boheme for the first and last time. Spiky cinnamon trudging towards the ubiquitous woody drydown, henceforth to be referred to as UWD.
Money saved for the sample 🙂
Do you pronounce “UWD” like “oud”? 😉
I am weari g Eau de Rochas today. One of my summer favorites.
You smell gooood.
Sampling Boy today. It’s hanging on at 6 hrs. I’m really liking it, darn it ????
SotD = Guerlain Terracotta, one of my favorite summer scents. Wearing a t-shirt I tie-dyed during a week at the seaside last year. I feel beachy.
U smell lovely & beachy! I’ve got the Terracotta sun cream, it’s wonderful stuff, pondering on whether I ‘need’ the perfume too.
What an awesome teapot. Okay, so yesterday I tested (NZ designer ) Karen Walker’s new scent Hi There! It’s meant to be masculine/feminine lemon, apple, pepper, wood something something. It was rather bland.
What to wear today??? Day 4 of my low calorie perfume diet…a tiny dab of Ostara? Waiting for the Gwyneth Paltrow detox righteousness to kick in as I flush all my trashy scents from my system.
Well drat, that KW looked fun! But just as well since I’ll never see it.
SOTD is Tiziana Terenzi Arethusia.
Today was the start of my summer favourites week. Jour d’Hermes Absolu accompanied me on a picnic with friends with lots of small people this morning, and my new, slightly used bottle of Philosykos edt arrived this afternoon, from eBay. just sprayed liberally, and am in fig heaven! Have wanted a bottle of this one for ages, such bliss.
Sampling AC’s Pomelo Paradis today. The opening note of sweet grapefruit plus a hint of Double Bubble bubblegum is awesome. Too bad that fizzles almost immediately into nothing. Oh well… money saved.
I’m wearing Agent Provocateur L’Agent today. It think maybe I oversprayed because it was kind of bothering me this morning, but it’s fine now that it’s settled down.
I wore L’heure bleu this morning in protest, because I’m really sick of 100+ degree days. Then I realized how horrible that choice was, and showered and switched to California Reverie. Summer won.
????????
I am wearing one of my summer staples, Guerlain eau de fleurs de cédrat.
