Van Cleef & Arpels In New York ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 8 July 2016 15 Comments

Van Cleef & Arpels In New York

Van Cleef & Arpels will launch In New York, a new fragrance for men, in September.

An aromatic fresh woody scent with timeless accents recalling Broadway, Central Park and Fifth Avenue. Vigorous opening notes come in with a dynamic rush – in this city, what else could you expect? The zesty citrus of precious Italian lemon essence and tangy mandarin mingles with marine notes, calling to mind the Atlantic breeze that blows along the city’s sidewalks. This burst of freshness is carried along by a potent aromatic heart of lavender essence – a classic of men’s fragrances – shaken up by the unexpectedness of clary sage. This underlying intensity deepens as it meets woods and animal musk. A warm amber facet, lightly touched by Tonka bean to give an almond-y hint, creates a refined and virile fragrance trail.

Van Cleef & Arpels In New York will be available in 125 ml Eau de Toilette.

Given their history of wonderful, imaginative bottles, that one is really a disappointment. It could hardly be more generic. It’s like they were assigned it by a glass manufacturer who’s going out of business.

I know some people don’t think the bottle is important, but I do.

It’s pretty conservative for sure — and not very New York.

I saw this image floating around earlier, what happended to that design? The one presented looks very rushed. And gray.

Better, but even better would be the round bottle AND the NYC skyline like on the box. Maybe the failure of Evening in Paris is still too painful for them…

Plus, different name! But that’s a much nicer looking bottle.

One is unlikely to get Atlantic breezes in midtown. Just saying….

I have not tried a Van Cleefs & Arpels fragrance. Any suggestions?

If you have a Neiman Marcus, or a VCA boutique, you might try the Collection Extraordinaire. But honestly I have smelled only a fraction of their line myself.

First is A Classic and LUMINOUS Fragrance for a VERY good reason… It smells HEAVENLY! Old School Gem is worth sourcing a small bottle for it’s a Good Old WHOPPER of a scent of the Alexis Carrington-Colby-Dexter-Colby Variety. I Personally LOVE their fragrance Reve… Some say it’s Bland, I think it’s Smooth, Feminine, Light, Diaphanous! And at Neiman’s… if one is near you… the Collection Extraordinaire the Orchidee Vanille is NOT to be missed under ANY Circumstance!

I liked their Gem, but it must be discontinued.

In Men’s Fragrance, Strangely, Most don’t find the Bottle appearance to have any bearing on whether they buy the scent or not, excepting when the bottle is perhaps TOO Decorous, which has been proven to shy many (not all, Not MOST, But enough of a demographic to matter) away from the bottle and also, prevent the women that buy for that type of man, to not choose such bottles as well knowing full well he won’t be likely to choose the juice in the Frou-Frou, Artsy-Fartsy bottle!

SOOOO…. Utilitarian, Clean, Minimal, Sleek, BORING some may say, Bottles sell better than more elaborate ones, even if the Juice is less the admirable. Many men are changing that habit at this point in time, But an Established house like VC&A isn’t REALLY going to tinker too much with that formula!

I don’t think this will be a match for de Nicolaï’s New York, which must be one of the best masculines of all time.
