French niche house Serge Lutens has launched Baptême du feu. Baptême du feu was inspired by the carnivals and funfairs (with their shooting ranges) of Lutens' youth in Northern France.
"My emotions are fluid. Like liquid wax poured into a mould, they determine what seduces me—like this gingerbread heart." Serge Lutens
Notes for the gourmand fragrance include burnt orange peel, ginger, cinnamon, osmanthus and castoreum.
Serge Lutens Baptême du feu is $150 for 50 ml, at Serge Lutens.

Hellloooo~~~!
Is this out already then?
Well, it’s for sale on the SL website. No idea if it turns out they won’t ship it for weeks….
Hmmm finally one in the better price range that peaks my interest a little. This sounds like it would be nice for the fall and the cooler months.
It does!
Boo hiss, Twisted Lily doesn’t carry this yet. The notes sound interesting!
Oh, good! I thought we’d lost mr. Lutens to cater only for people who can afford living in Dubai.
And very down-to-earth copy for once.
I know the name means ‘babtism of fire’, but what does that mean? Trial by fire? I need a few drinks before I’m fluent in French.
Yup, baptism by fire is a phrase that comes from the Bible that effectively means a very difficult initiation into a new role. Stiff learning curve, etc. What a fanciful name. I hope that doesn’t mean this scent will be difficult to love; it sounds marvelous.
Well, there is the gunpowder portion of the scent that will add a metallic tang.
Looking forward to this one, have a sample coming in a couple of weeks via a friend in France.
