Happy Almost-Friday, and happy Bloomsday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Kenzo Amour. I wish they'd done a flanker that intensified the "rice steam". Amour Riz? And why doesn't Demeter make a Rice Pudding fragrance? (They make a Rice Paddy, but it also has the water note which I do not want.)
Reminder: on 6/17, wear a fragrance by Kenzo, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
SL Gris Clair…. I was in the mood for that icy, ashy lavender. You know how it is.
You smell great.
Ashy lavender? That sounds interesting.
Interesting – I find Gris Clair more like steam iron lavender (smells like pressing linen with lavender-scented hot steam to me). Either way, I am now wanting to wear it, but alas, am at work. Enjoy!
Just sniffed this today and you have captured it perfectly. The lavender is not the camphoraceous or bracing creamy kind at all.
That IS interesting: I get nothing of a hot-steam sense from it. It really does feel very cold to me, like lavender kept in a florist’s refrigerator.
I found my sample of vintage Jolie Madame from ElisaP!! It took some searching (organizing my samples will need to be a weekend project) but I’m happy to have found it.
On my skin, it started out heavy on the violets (not a note I love), and those eventually faded, but now I’m having trouble smelling it….hmm. Maybe I didn’t apply enough. What little I can smell seems nice though!
Are you not a Violet’s person? I am slowly dipping my toes
I don’t seem to be, but you never know – it could change.
Have you tried Dame Perfumery’s Peach Blossom, Violet & Vanilla? It is very pretty and very office friendly and to my nose not too heavy on the violet….
Oh and if you are adventurous enough to explore the note you “don’t love” I am going to suggest Sonoma Scent Studio….no one does violets like Laurie Erickson!
I was hoping to work through more of the sample goodies I have before I make a DSH, SSS, or Dame order, but I may cave early…everyone says that each of them provides the best customer service, and I really would like to support the little guys.
Have yet to explore DSH but have ordered much from SSS and Dame and yes they are both wonderful one person operations….and Dame is by far the most generous man with his samples!!!!
Sorry it’s not rocking your world but I think you smell lovely!
When I press my nose to my wrist, I think so too, now that the violets have faded, but I’m not sure why it’s so faint. Do you have that experience with this one?
It goes on pretty well but does fade fast. I usually mix vintage EDT w/vintage Parfum.
I suspected it wouldn’t be up your alley because if the violet. Have you ever tried EL Azuree? It’s a nice floral/herbal leather.
I do like it when I press my nose to my wrist….I think I either didn’t apply enough or my skin completely consumes it. Not sure why that would be. You don’t have this issue with it, do you?
Azuree is on my to-try list, along with half the scents listed in the Leather category on Fragrantica. 😀
It’s not that potent on me. Spraying helps. Lasts a couple of hours.
I’m off to a lake cleanup with the water conservation group that my husband works with. Only three people signed up so I got roped in at the last minute.
Somebody mentioned layering jasmine with L’air de Rien and I was already thinking about wearing Poet’s Jasmine again so I’m risking the combination. It’s very nice and hopefully won’t offend when I get hot and sweaty pulling ragweed (if, indeed, anybody can breathe once we get started).
I’ll have to give this a try too. Despite the fact that L’air de Rien is one of my all time favorites, I don’t pull it out often.
Ha! Yes that combo is a winner in the hot weather. Yesterday I kept getting a sweet soft musk in the dry down. I think the jasmine actually pulls out some of the notes in L’air that I normally can’t smell very much.
Also, the jasmine oil seems to give l’air a bit more staying power. It lasted all afternoon and into the evening.
I tried the combo last eve and it is lovely. Sultry and musky, indeed!
Good on you for joining the lake clean up. Hope it turned out to be a nice day.
I tried it with my petit rien + my sample of jasmine et cigarette = !!
On a base of Dame Perfumery’s New Musk for Men perfume oil I sprayed Escada’s Limited Edition Turquoise Summer…another cheerful and uplifting combo….and I am really loving the new musk as a base for many other fragrances as well as on its own…it’s definitely unisex….
Robin, I would also love an inexpensive fragrance heavy on the sweet rice note….do you think Demeter would hear our plea for “Rice Pudding”?
Even without a plea you’d think they’d just naturally get to it eventually! They’ve got everything else.
Oh, and Tan Giudicelli Annam was a great rice pudding scent, but a long while back, 2000. If you ever see a bottle, buy it!
Adding to the list…..thanks, Robin!
Ok Demeter really needs to come out with a rice pudding because the Tam is close to thirty dollars for 1ml!!!! I guess it has a cult following! But it really does sound good……(I looked at the notes!)
So true!!! I am crossing my fingers…..
The Diptyque of the day is L’Eau Trois, which is rustic and wonderful. Tea is a Spring Flush Darjeeling, Singbulli if I’m not mistaken.
You smell great!
You really like that one, don’t you? I always thought I didn’t really like incense fragrances, but I think it depends on the fragrance, I’m loving this.
Kenzo Amour Riz! what a wonderful idea! Why can’t they make that? I would wear the heck out of that.
You & me and about 20 other people on earth, LOL…
21.
What? No “Goddess of Love&Perfume” today? Lol!
Have you tried “Midnight in the Palace Garden” and “Maxed Out” from 4160 Tuesdays? If so, what are your thoughts?
Not today! 🙂 And no, I haven’t tried those two yet.
If anyone loves Ginger they would love Ginger Lily that I am sampling today.
Have a good day ahead NSTers!
You too, how many more days of work?
You’re done after tomorrow, right??
I am working the weekend but off today and tomorrow. Yesterday I got a little Bon Voyage party- some NYers would appreciate that I got croissants from Mille Feuille from the west village ????
I am very excited about this change in my life and appreciate your support ❤️️
Yum! Croissants at anytime is a winner!
Just looked at the notes….nice! I would like this one….
Are you permanently ceasing work or just for the summer? In any event best of luck!
I am stepping away from my career for 2 years to be at home with the babies. I have been in my field for the last 11 years so I have worked really hard and saved enough to be able to do this
Fantastic news! Enjoy those babes while you can…they grow up too fast! And congrats!!
Agreed! I know you will cherish your time with them.
That’s awesome! Congrats to you. One of my best friends had a baby 8 months ago and has decided to stay at home. (I so wish I was able to do that). We all had lunch yesterday, and she was just saying how weird it was going to be to not return to teaching in August. But, if I had little Kate, I would do the same thing. Enjoy your time with your kiddos because they grow up so quickly.
I’m taking advantage of my officemate’s vacation to try out new samples. Today I’m trying Ormonde Jayne Frangipani, which I don’t love as much as I had hoped. For some reason all the OJ fragrances smell the same to me at first… but I will give it a few more tries!
They don’t smell the same to me at first, but seem to all end up in the same place. I like Frangipani though, it’s so uplifting.
They all have similar iso e super bases, which you either like or you don’t. Also, some people cannot smell iso e super very well.
Yes, it seems like the base just takes over my nose! Bummer! I will continue my hunt for this summer’s white floral…
SOTD is La Chasse aux Papillons.
No Kenzo fragrance so can’t participate tomorrow.
Oh that is the tester bottle I broke at Printemps in Paris. Associated with death by tuberose and Parisian stares.
Hysterical
Parisian stares have a force all their own.
I hear that in James Earl Jones’ voice.
????
I think there should be a tuberose perfume called “Parisian Stares”
Great idea!
Certainly!
Kris,
You are truly my scent-sister. I too have no Kenzo fragrnces. I wonder why that is? I wish we lived closer so we could raid each others perfume collection. 🙂
edit: fragrances
Yes, that would be nice wouldn’t it?
Guerlain Terracota on one wrist and the white, cubic Narciso on the other. The Guerlain feels more like smelling an actual flower, while the Narciso is softer, rounder and more perfume-like. It actually reminded me of Cartier La Panthère, am I nuts? Surprisongly, I like the Narciso 1.000 times better.
Your samples arrived today! Will try them asap, but wearing too much Trois to do them justice.
Do you mean the current Panthère?
Oh, I’m happy they arrived!! And yep, I mean the new Panthère. Will try it again side by side with Narciso soon, and will report back.
Did my package arrive at all?
Not yet… Brazilian douane is always stressfull…
I’ll keep my fingers crossed then!
I own and enjoy both Narciso and Panthere (the current version with the panther bottle) and agree they have some similarities.
I agree, too – it’s the floral + musk combo. A cheapie along the same vein is Jessica Simpson Fancy Love – spritz with abandon!
Thank you for the tip, I’ll try it!
Thank you!
I really like La Panthère, I’ll have to try Narciso! If only the names made it easier to keep the various NR offerings straight. 🙁
Just look for the white cube. The names are impossible.
Poison Girl has hints of Narciso white cube….if Narciso white cube was the NY guggenheim, then Poison Girl would be the Bilbao guggenheim …..though more likely the shop within the museum
Lol!!
Sampling Miyako, courtesy of a lovely NST perfume fairy! My goodness, this is a real shape-shifter on me! I knew as soon as I took a whiff out of the sample over the weekend that it would need a lot of skin time to figure out, so when I come home later I’ll properly douse myself.
I have been curious about this one since seeing Luca Turin’s rave review….let us know what happens after you douse yourself!
I think the natural osmanthus is similar to the osmanthus in Providence Perfume Co. Osmanthus Oolong with a strong leather element. Did you get that one? Much different from the citrus floral TDC Osmanthus.
No still haven’t gotten around to getting my sampler coffret set from Providence Perfume Co (but lovestosmellgood has been tempting me every day!)…I happen to really like the smell of osmanthus essential oil (used to buy it from Eden Botanicals)… it is so complex it is like a perfume unto itself….I have a feeling I would like both Miyako and Osmanthus Oolong (amoung many others from Providence Perfume Co!)
chocolate marzipan, I know that I have some Providence Perfume Co. samples drifting in The Sample Sea. I’d like to send them to you. Please email me: harukirumi in the land of yawhooo!
Holly- you are too kind and too sweet…will do!
Yes, I agree! How do you feel about it? I’m about to douse!
Giving Florabellio a second chance today. The first time I sampled it, the dry-down reminded me of Method Sweet Water hand soap. So far, I’m still getting apple blossom as well as an aquatic note. Watery scents just don’t suit me.
My favorite rice perfume is Fils de dieu. A cinnamony rice pudding fragrance would be amazing.
Florabellio was strange and yet incredibly addictive for me….
I love Fd D….one of these days a full bottle for me…I think it also comes in a 30 ml size which is nice …..
I was really intrigued by the description of Florabellio, but I think my nose just shuts down in the presence of aquatic notes so the interesting coffee/sesame thing never arrived for me.
My nose really honed in on the coffee / sesame thing and the aquatic notes were in the background…first sampling I thought I did not like it (it was “odd” to my nose) but yet kept sniffing my wrist for hours! By the third try I decided it was in the “like” camp but not enough for a full bottle…..
I’m in Dior Homme today – LOVE this stuff! If it stays cool tomorrow weather-wise, I may find my sample of l’Elephant. My only other Kenzo is Flower, and it and I don’t get along unless I’m in exactly the right mood. Robin’s review of Flower Oriental sounds very intriguing – need to check that one out.
Flower Oriental was probably my favorite Flower, but have not seen it around in years. Don’t know if you’ll be able to find it.
fragrancex did have it for around thirty dollars but it is sold out…however, I found it on amazon but….it is more than four times the price per bottle!!!!!!
Yeah. It is not that good.
In a spritz of Ambre des Merveilles this morning, as it’s still a little on the crisp side. Had a fun midweek perfumista meetup (cocktails were involved), so I have a few samples to test out over the weekend.
So much fun! Thanks to NST for bringing us (and many others) together.
I tried out the 1000 Flowers last night and enjoyed both. Asked my darling one which one he liked better, and he said “This one” (Fleur No. 1) “This other one smells of dirty sweat. Like a hippie?” It was a proud moment when we looked up the notes and realized he’d identified what was likely patchouli and ambrette. This is a major development for a guy that used to just say “smells like vanilla” for everything, including things like Vetiver Tonka and Avignon 🙂
LOVE Fleur No 1…to my nose it is a softer version of no 19…have you tried Reglisse Noire?…that one made me fall for licorice notes (which up until then I did not think I liked)…also Ode for Him is great on a guy…gave that one to my nephew….Narcotic Flowers is a modern version of the original Karl Lagerfeld Chloe and for an all natural it has excellent longevity….thanks for reminding me of the 1000 Flowers in my collection…I am going to have to revisit them!
SOTD is the gorgeous yet office-friendly Amouage Dia woman.
Dia is lovely, isn’t it?
Wearing ‘Shah Limar’ extrait — that is what I told my friend when he said, ‘Oh, what are you wearing? It smells like some deep Arabian dude stuffs.’ LOL 😀
Hsyterical…although I must admit it took me a few seconds to get it!
Apparently, the Shah connotes a masculine notion to him. Only later when I showed him was he willing to try more stuffs on the ‘ladies’ brand’ — surprise, surprise it is Chanel. He is liking No.18
hahaha! Of course it does.
🙂 I’ve never thought of it like that! !LOL!
I will never see Shalimar the same way again… ‘deep stuff’ indeed.
HA!
Deep Arabian Dude Stuffs is the name of my new band.
SOTD: American Cream by Lush
Still going on with the Lush flow. This smells a lot like Chanel’s Jersey on me; a powdery/dusty lavender with some faint vanilla. Oh, one more thing, impossibly weak staying power, like..30mins.
yes but for a fraction of the price! I happen to like Jersey so I may be on the lookout for American Cream…is it still in production (I know that Lush discontinues some of its fragrances….)
I don’t think its available now 🙁 It was a special edition release a while back. But do keep an eye out since Lush releases these special fragrances every once in a while!
thanks for the info!
Elie Saab L’Eau Couture for me right now. Later, closer to lunchtime, I will go to Colonial Drug and buy myself some Lorenzo Villoresi Tropicana and then some cannolis from Antoine’s
Sounds awesome. No Honey Oud?
Been craving happy fruit salad for some reason….
Happy fruit salad! It probably smells like total ambrosia on your skin.
I would meet up, but have a job this afternoon – too squeezed for time. Have fun!
My yahoo address is my screen name. I’m free Mon, Tues and Thurs next week if you want to get together
Juliette has a gun Mad Madame, from the discovery kit I impulse bought at Sephora (I love that they have discovery kits there!!). It’s described as a green and metallic chypre. I like it, it’s good for the rainy and cooler weather today. And it’s rose heavy, which is always a plus in my book.
Mad Madame is my favorite JHAG. You smell great!
I didn’t know Sephora had discovery kits! I used to love, love, love Sephora, but then they started getting rid of a lot of the things I loved there. I then went to Ulta, but it just never measured up to Sephora in my book. Sounds like I need to go back and visit Sephora soon.
My local Sephora does not carry the discovery kits but the Sephora online has many new discovery kits and also smaller size bottles of many of the niche brands…..
I think it depends on the Sephora. The ones in Memorial City and the Galleria are both pretty great and both have been expanded fairly recently. Do you ever go to either of those?
At my local Sephora, the discovery/sample sets are in two places: the perfume section and by the checkout (where all the travel size and impulse buy stuff is). They stock brands by the checkout that they don’t carry in my local store particular store, while the discovery/sample kits in the perfume section tend to be the really popular ones.
Smelling good!
I am totally with you on the rice flanker!
We can dream 🙂
Fou d’Absinthe, feels perfect against this steamy heatwave.
very nice!
I’m wondering about Fou d’Absinthe. It’s cheap in TK Maxx at the moment but Luca pans it in the Guide. It’s it good then?
Passage d’Enfer is also cheap and ubiquitous but doesn’t sound my sort of thing.
I like both of those… Fou d’Absinthe has the anise/licorice thing going on, Passage d’Enfer is a favourite bedtime scent for me, lilies and incense.
Fou is a favorite of mine – very herbal green on me. Passage was smokey on me and I wasn’t crazy about it.
Going for a little “What we do in Paris is Secret” this morning. Goes well with my tea (black coffee).
Enabler alert: There’s a Chanel spot on Zulily today and there are some discounted Chanels and Estee Lauders on there.
Oh, geesh! You’re gonna get me in trouble! Lol! 🙂
Is the 30% off just for the make up or do they also sell the fragrances? I was not able to browse…you need to be a member…and I would rather not join if it is just the make up….
There are some frags on there. I noticed Cristalle and Pour Monsieur among others.
You can browse (but not see the prices) if you click the link at the bottom of the homepage for “how Zulily works,” which bypasses the sign-in pop up. Then just search for Chanel on the search bar. The sign-in does come back up but you can scroll behind it and see most everything.
Hmm…you can only view the first page now so perhaps they’ve caught on. Still, if you’re interested in something specific you can check for it.
I caved in because I really wanted to look…they have 6.7 oz of Terres D”hermes for under one hundred dollars and 3.4oz of Bvlgari Rose Essentelle for under $36 so there really are some good bargains…oh and Chanel no 19 body lotion for $44…but wholey cow…the Chanel lipsticks…when did they become so expensive?
What we do in paris is secret does go well with coffee! Enjoy!
Thanks! Cherry pipe tobacco and black coffee reminds me of my grandpa.
I had a decant of WWDIP a few years ago and drained it within a week…I guess I like it!
It’s kind of a light hearted scent. The first hour or so is good on me and then it seems to get a stale/sour note, like grandpa has been sleeping in his singlet for a few days and needs to put on a clean one.
Osmanthe Yunnan, making the last drops last!
I am going to need more soon too.
I’m also smelling rice-puddingy today, and wearing Safran Troublant again.
I stopped by Sephora yesterday hoping to get a sample of one of the current Kenzos, but they didn’t have a single Kenzo in the store. Fortunately, I already have one for tomorrow.
Wow, not a one! Come to think of it, don’t know that I’ve seen Kenzo Totem anywhere in the US at all.
You smell terrific.
I’m wearing Roma Imperiale. Everyone smells great today!
So elegant!
🙂 Thanks!
Yum!
A planned tough day at work, so I went with the classisc…SOTD = Mitsouko.
Hope it’s not too bad. You smell great!
In some ways it was much worse than I expected, but in others ways, not nearly as bad. La la la…
????
I’m trying to figure out whether I find planned tough days at work are harder than unplanned tough days, because I think I might. But you smell great regardless.
I certainly didn’t accomplish what I planned to do. My job basically consists of an unending string of interuptions.
Mitsouko is always wonderful.
It is, isn’t it? I was introduced to it, when I got a set of 5 Guerlain minis for a present one time, it must have been in the mid ’80s, because I remember Jardins de Bagatelle was one of them. I kind of sniffed them and wore them all, and was surprised to find that Mitsouko was the one I used up first. So then I went and got little spray bottle of the EDT. 🙂 I have never been without it since. 🙂
Chanel #5. Mitsouko. L’aimant. Belladogia. Shalimar. Arpege. Fracas. Apres l’Ondee. Joy. Old Spice – my father had Old Spice aftershave… The oldies…
My Geisha Vanilla Hinoki streak continues. I think this is day 3. Still love it. I wonder what Friday will bring?
The weather here is warming up over the next few days, so I’m doing laundry this morning. I love clean sheets and towels at the end of a hot day. I visited Arielle’s Scents of Self blog for the first time the other day. I enjoyed her rundown on laundry detergent. Le Labo Rose 31 scented pillow cases sound wonderful to me. Here’s a link:
https://thescentsofself.com/2016/05/20/making-laundry-into-lemonade/
Hope you are feeling wonderfully fragrant today!
I *SO* wish that I had liked Vanilla Hinoki. I guess I ought to give it another shot since I already bought the oil [sigh]
Do try Vanilla Hinoki again. My first try was ok. I liked it better on the next try, I applied more than I usually would when testing a new fragrance. It became love when I accidentally layered it with lavender essential oil.
I’m wearing one of the fragrances I received from the Smell Bent Garage sale last week. I actually bought two full bottles because they were so cheap. One was discontinued and one was one of the two new Frankensmellies debuting this summer. Today I’m wearing the discontinued one, Mots Verts. It is described on their website as green carnations. However on Fragrantica, one person commented that it smelled like honey-baked ham. I got it because I love carnations, rhubarb and vetiver, all of which Fragrantica names as notes. However, I have to admit that I am not enjoying it as much as I thought I would.
Don’t you just hate it when a fragrance contains all of the notes that you like, but then when you smell it, it’s nothing that you envisioned?
That’s the worst.
One of my staff said it smelled like incense. Could be worse.
SOTD is NV Mohur, it was calling to me… yes, a rose perfume can call to even me! Some days I feel like I could be happy with a collection just made up of Neela Vermeires and Chanels. Oh, and Armani Prive Bois d’Encens, plus VCA California Reverie. That’s it. But wait, can’t forget Black Cashmere, or Nanban. Hmm need more fig, that’s for sure, so let’s keep Philosykos and AdP Fico di Amalfi. Oh but then I’m missing something with cassis… and… well… hehehe
Ha! That’s a perfect nutshell description of a perfumista’s mind process 🙂
Twin! I think I would be happy with nothing but NV’s and Chanel, too! Just a few Hermes and Hiram Green and, ok, a few other things.
I almost wore Mohur today (but was wearing the wrong colors). You smell wonderful!
Funny! I had the same dilemma today. My color scheme called for something green, brown, or yellow-smelling. But, I went with my SOTD(dusty pink) anyway. Hopefully no one notices that I clash 😉
I’ve been doing a top five perfumeries in my head and it keeps shifting, but Neela Vermeire is always there.
SOTD: Homemade jasmine/rose body oil, after showering with Rose Jam shower gel.
Last night I had to go fetch the down comforter from storage- it was chilly! I had to shop for a black dress, and wound up riding my bike through a very chilly rainstorm, so I was chilled to the bone! But fortunately I had pizza&beer dinner prior to biking home, which helped with energy and sleep.
OOTD:: Light blue suit, pink shirt, blue suede shoes, and a rainbow pin.
wow..homemade boy oil sounds great!
Homemade jasmine / rose body oil does sound AMAZING! Wow!
YOU smell fabulous!!!!!!
Sounds fab, please share your recipe!
Today, I’m in Andrée Putman L’Original, which I don’t love (yet?) but which is definitely inoffensive and might turn out to be interesting. I just want something I can ignore, as John Cusack puts it.
I liked that one! But have not tried the new version.
Derek Lam 10 Crosby 2am Kiss. It is chilly in Portland again and the lipstick-y scent felt right for today.
do you own or are you sampling? a SA gave me a sample of this but I haven’t smelled or tried it yet.
Happy “Friday Eve” everyone!
My SOTD is Ikat Jasmine by Aerin Lauder. Never knew that I was such a lover of jasmine until I noticed that a lot of fragrances I have or like has jasmine in it. Huh…
I feel that I’m always learning something new when it comes to fragrance. I love it!
Two things that I have on my bucket list:
1. to one day create my own fragrance
2. to write a series of children’s books
You can start playing around with #1…just get some essential and /or fragrance oils and vodka or grain alcohol…..
This one sounds good. I don’t have any fragrances by Aerin.
SHL 777 Rose de Petra today. I really love this rose
I’m sure you smell amazing. Every time you post about wearing this, I recall how much I want to try this, then immediately forget. Today, it is going on an actual list!
I can send you some to try. Hit me up at pretsky35 on the hot mail planet.
Blessings and good fortune to you for your generosity! I’ll email you 🙂
You smell lovely today. RdP is a beautiful rose scent. It reminds me so much of Mohur.
Thanks! I can see that. The rose has a similar, slightly fruity, creamy quality.
PG Tubereuse Couture
I have no Kenzo at all and I don’t believe I’ve ever smelled one, so tomorrow I’ll be wearing something else. I’m getting in the car in a hour for the trip to the Shakespeare Festival and then on to pick up Willow the Wonder Dog. Have a good weekend, everyone.
I hope you have a wonderful trip. And give Willow a scratch behind the ears from me. I can just imagine her with her nose poking out of the car window as you drive along.
Safe journeys to you and congratulations on your new furry companion!
Willow????????
I’m wearing Intoxicated by Kilian today. The antibiotics have kicked in so I’m finally feeling better.
You smell wonderful. Glad to hear you are feeling better!
Feel well soon, Elizabeth.
Dealing with tooth pain today and have to wait for a dentist appointment. I’m thinking I might have an infection. Today is a no 19 edt kind of day.
I hope you get some relief very soon.
Feel better soon! Nothing worse than pain in your mouth. Seems that area (nerves) affects the whole body.
Feel better. If you think it’s infected, find someone to see sooner.
If you think it’s infected, find someone to see sooner. Feel better.
Tooth pain is its own special kind of misery. I’m sorry you’re going through this.
JM Orris & Sandalwood is what I’m wearing today.
Currently drinking a cup of Douglas Fir Spring Tips tea.
I just couldn’t get into Orris &Sandlewood. Oh well, guess I can’t love them all! LOL!
Nope, and that’s a good thing. We’d all be broke lol!
I’m in TDC Bois d’Iris today. It’s a great weekday scent for the office, and I’m planning to finish up my decant today since there is less than a ml left. I’ve had this little plastic decant for a good 7-8 years! It’s time to say goodbye, as I only like it and not love, so a repurchase is not in my future.
SOTD for me is Vanilla Smoke. Warm, cozy and lasts a little longer than the edp but not much.
Yum while it lasts.
This one is on my FB wish list!
SOTD and Guerlain #4 is “Eau de Guerlain”. After the glory of yesterday’s “Heritage” this is pretty meagre stuff. It’s a fresh enough lemon as it goes on, but despite the long list of official notes there is little else to it. And it lasts about 10 minutes. This was a freebie from Scent Samples so “no harm, no foul”. :^)
Today I’m wearing a mysterious scent called Webber 6T. It was part of a massive estate-sale perfume hoard scored by Carol of the blog WAFT; she shared w/ others for a group blog project that I was fortunate to take part in. 6T is a spicy chypre with a cinnamon-tinged finish; I really, really like it, though I know so little about its creator, Mr. Webber. If you’re intrigued, visit Carol’s blog or google “6T Unlocking an Unknown” to read the group reviews….
That was such an interesting post, and a fascinating occurrence taht she found it.
I actually have dreams at night about uncovering a treasure trove like Carol’s! What an amazing stroke of luck, a tale to stoke a thousand scented fantasies.
I went with Timbuktu today. I love this one in the summer.
I put that on yesterday afternoon! It is great in the heat. (I guess that’s fitting.)
Maybe that might be a good one for your trip to the Carolinas 🙂
Considering the backstory, it might come in handy if there’s a groomsman I want to beguile. 😀
I’ll have to try it soon. I tend to wear it mostly in the fall.
At last I’ve tried the Yves Rocher Vetiver d’Haiti shower gel and it was worth the wait, especially for the price. Definitely refreshing and brisk vetiver, quite strongly scented. It does lean a tad aftershavey and maybe a touch woodier (I.E. Non-vetiver woods) than would have been my ideal, but very nice nonetheless.
Thank you for the report! So would you say synthetic fresh / ozone notes in addition to the vetiver?
Lea by Calypso St. Barth that I applied after a stop at the gym. I grabbed it out of the vanilla sampler to layer over Philosophy Fresh Cream Lotion that I put on after I showered. The lotion is rich and may be a good substitute for lunch, and the Lea is soft. The latter is discontinued, so hopefully I won’t like it too much!
Trying out Carner Barcelona Costarela, which is a very nice sun, sea, and sand scent. A little bergamot on the top, but it moves on and leaves a very smooth base, I guess from ambroxan? If you want the beach without the sunscreen, this is pretty great, although low key.
Wearing Kelly Caleche today.
I need to wear that soon.
Just read Robin’s post on the Tres Bien colognes so I’m wearing Weleda Grenade. This is really good. It reminds me of campari or bitters. Would be wonderful in summer but pretty nice in the darkest winter. The only downside is it stings a bit when applied so don’t spray on your delicate skin.
That’s odd, wonder why it stings?
Wearing Via del Profumo sandalwood attar over the drydown of Vetiver Tonka – fantastic. I think VT would make it into my top five if forced to forsake all others.
I’ve no Kenzo and have only smelled Flower on card. It was a bit insipid but I’m not a floral lover. A colleague loved it. Some of them sound quite nice; there is/ was a mimosa one I think?
Osmanthe yunan. It’s probably already gone, but was so pretty while it lasted!
Such a beautiful scent, I really wish it lasted longer. You smell fantastic!
Woke up late today and have to head out the door to work momentarily, but I “officially” found out yesterday, that I will no longer have to work night shift anymore!!! After 2 years of being “off schedule” with the rest of my family & friends, it will be sooooo nice to trade in my nights for the light! I am so done with working Wed-Sat nights.
I was planning on trying Green Water today, but woke up this afternoon to pouring rain & flash flood warnings and I think that is enough water out there today..LoL…so based on a comment I saw and a generous sample from fellow NSTers, I am off to work in Papillion’s Tobacco Rose.
Love love love this one! One of my favorite roses.
Congrats on switching to day shift!
Congrats! I worked nights for many years. It was hard being out of sync with everyone else, not to mention chaotic sleep schedules. I don’t miss it.
Welcome to the light! 🙂
Have had a few low key weeks while dealing with my aging mothers health. And been reaching for field notes from Paris or berdous grand cru – one of new ones — Oud al something supposed to smell like cedars in Lebanon. While it doesn’t exactly transport me to back to traveling there, it’s a nice enough year round scent and their bottles are beautiful. I did top it off with a bit of Assam since the elephants cheer me and I wouldn’t bother anyone on a plane today. Stopped at the bulgari store at airport but they don’t carry any fragrance at all.
I wish I loved the human race more today, but I don’t.
There’s always tomorrow, right?
Sampled a bunch of stuff today, but my official SOTD is Tauer Sotto la Luna Tuberose.
Cooler weather where I live today, so SOTD = sampling HdP’s 1826. I rather liked the spicy top notes. Too bad they didn’t hang around longer. Drydown is amber and patchouli, both on the light side. Very nice, but more of a fall scent, IMO.
After 2 days in bed with a cold, got out today and ran errands. Worn out now, and will fall asleep to a few spritzes of Sycomore.
Late to the party. I didn’t even have time to sneak a peek into NST. I was a few minutes late to a 1 hour seminar and had to sit at the edge of the room, barely able to see the slide show but the view was acceptable given that the speakers spoke confidently and I got the main points by just listening (I am more of a visual learner most of the time). Anyway 2 more people were even later than me and ended up sitting on either side of me. After a few minutes, the one to my right, who had a better view than me, got up to go to another seat that had a better angle. She then spent the rest of the session either responding to emails or texting. How rude is that and why did she even bother moving?
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP. I predicted that this will be my uniform all week and so far so good.
As to tomorrow’s project, eventhough I realized I have a decant of Jungle L’Elephant, I don’t like it (IIRC, it smelled like vomit and of course it may have turned – I got it from STC and tried it soon after I received it). I’ll just pretend that I couldn’t find it in time to participate 😉
Checking in late but enjoyed Eris Night Flower today. I really like this tuberose leather and it projects mightily at first but then calms down and wears close in the dry down. Very interesting line and worth trying out.
I like this one the best out of the bunch!
Tuberose leather? Is it skanky or clean (my idea of clean leather is bottega veneta btw).
So my back ordered Musc Monoi arrived today, along with the Ex Nihilo sampler featuring Fleur Narcotique, Sweet Morphine and Love Shot. In addition to those goodies, I have been trying to order many samples featuring violet. I seriously don’t know what to sniff first. The bottle of Musc Monoi is the first time I’ve been able to spray rather than dab, and it’s definitely different, but I still love love love it. I will be working through these samples, but so far I’m not a huge fan of Lokhoum or Cuir Ottoman. I will try again but may need to send those to a better home.
I love this place, and haven’t commented nearly enough, but I’m ready now. Hello everyone!!!
Hello and welcome! :^)
