Happy Wednesday, and happy World Oceans Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Lush Kerbside Violet. Tea at the moment: Harney's Kukicha.
Reminder: 6/10 will be Fake it Friday — wear a cheaper alternative (it can be anything: a different fragrance, an essential oil, layered products, a combination of perfume and body products) to a more expensive perfume. Suggested by Hajusuuri.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Just last night I found my mini roll-on of SL Rousse, so I’m wearing it today — cinnamon, stewed fruit (smells like raisins!) and lots of wood. So gorgeous and dark and classically Lutens.
You smell fantastic!
That does sound nice. I haven’t sampled Rousse. Would you say it’s more of a winter scent or can it be worn year round?
Most people seem to think of it as a winter or even a Christmas scent because of the spiced stewed fruit, but I think it works year-round: it’s not heavy or sweet at all, and the wood is pretty dry. It’s actually kind of severe, in a way that I love.
Sounds nice!
Very nice! I need to replace my decant (or maybe even spring for a FB)
Today I’m wearing a sample of Cristalle. I wish I had a bottle to last me through the summer!
Where does one sample the Chanel Exclusifs these days? I’ve been missing them now that Chanel samples are harder to come by online… Would love to try Misia and Boy.
You can still occasionally find carded Les Exclusifs on eBay. Or, Chanel boutiques, Bergdorf Goodman, some Nordstrom and Saks stores.
You could go to a Chanel boutique or a Neiman Marcus. It’s possible to get an SA at NM to send you a sample, especially if you have been a customer. A Chanel SA might, too. They have always been very nice on the occasions when I’ve been in one.
Thank you both!
Twins! The edt is my fav summer perfume.
I have a sample of Misia floating about, that I can send you if you’d like. Not full but at least half- I think.
My email: laugsb at sbcglobal dot net.
NSTers are seriously the best!
Good Morning Beautiful People!
Aftelier’s Cuir Gardenia this morning..seems more tolerable today in the cooler temperatures.
That was a scrubber on me…it smelled of something rotting…glad that it is working for you 🙂 !!!!
There is a rotting note- anyhow the sample is all gone. I think 2 dabs and I finished the whole decant
I meant sample not decant
I hear you..the samples are super tiny!
I have a 2 mL mini…which will probably last me a lifetime. The Vanilla Smoke though I’ll probably get the 8 mLs as I will use it more often!
After my massage, my fever sick returned last night. On the plus side, so did my sense of smell (at least somewhat) so I’m taking off work today and lounging around sampling Note Vanillee from M.Micallef which is so far a rich, boozy vanilla caramel
So sorry you’re still feeling bad.
I’m not feeling bad– I’m thrilled that I can smell again. A day of total anosmia was discombobulating and I will hopefully never suffer that again
Feel better dear!
I know what you mean about the anosmia – so unsettling!
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Glad you got your smell back! Hope you feel better soon.
I went through a loss of smell last year after a hideous cold. It was so bizarre! Discovered it in Sephora when I sprayed Stella and literally couldn’t smell it. Only lasted a few days but was so strange. Glad you have it back.
L’Artisan’s La Haie Fleurie du Hameau, Tea is a black Nepal tea, Kanchan Gold.
You smell amazing — Haie Fleurie is one of my all-time favorites
It’s very lovely isn’t it?
I can’t believe I stupidly sold my bottle years ago. No more decluttering!!
I’ve never even heard of this one!
Continuing with the fake it Friday theme I am wearing a sweet incense essential oil blend that I made for my niece who loves Chinatown and SSS Incense Pure (but can’t afford either in full bottle). My blend is comprised of white pine tree sap (from a tree I cut down and collected the sap from), frankincense, labdanum, opoponax, bourbon vanilla, lavender, cedarwood, jasmine bergamot and oakmoss…not a tremendous amount of longevity but it smells good while it is there!
Wow, this sounds amazing!
And this was the bottle I gifted it to her in…..she loves moon images…..
https://www.bestbottles.com/pop_window.php?id=128
Hope the link works !
Wow, that sounds wonderful! I’d love to be able to make my own scents like that. Do you know about its stability yet? Have you made many blends before?
I have been blending for a while now and have made numerous blends for family and friends. If you are concerned about stability a few drops of vitamin E oil will act as a good preservative while keeping it natural. I am going to encourage you to try to make your own scents..it really isn’t that hard and as a perfumista you already know what notes you like…start out by getting a few essential oil samples from some reputable companies like Eden Botanicals and White Lotus Aromatics…then just experiment and have fun :)!!!
That sounds great 🙂 I don’t think I know enough yet, but it’s something I’d be interested in trying in a few years.
It worked! That’s a gorgeous bottle, thanks so much for the link!
No problem….and I am going to recommend bestbottles.com if you ever need bottles or perfume vials….I think hajusuuri uses them too and has recommended them…the prices are really good….
Wow! Sounds amazing
🙂
I love that you collected tree sap!! It does sound amazing.
That was actually a fluke! As my partner and I hauled the limbs of the tree I got some sap on my hands and it smelled divine…so in the evening out I went with a clean popsicle and an empty glass bottle collecting the sap…because it was so sticky I had to dilute it in a carrier oil and heat it up to blend the two oils so that I could work it into my perfume blends…(my partner all the while looking upon my endeavor as crazy-LOL!)
I think your partner was awestruck! How did it smell by itself after it was heated, diluted, etc.?
No , actually my partner thinks I am a kook with my smell addiction but after over two decades together he has given up trying to figure out why I am so scent obsessed…the sap on its own was glorious…sweet but woody….as a dilute it mellowed a bit but there was no choice in diluting in order to make it usable…the sap unadulterated was similar to pure oakmoss absolute in that it was sticky and non- removable without rubbing alcohol…..if you blend oakmoss with other oils it will never completely dissolve and leaves brown spots in the bottle….I don’t mind the brown blobs as it imparts a wonderful depth to any blend….I have tried wearing pure oakmoss on its own but it stains the skin….smells divine though….
‘from a tree I cut down and collected the sap from’ – whhhaaat! a woman on a mission!
hey! something useful had to come out of that cut down tree 🙂 !!!
Speechless at the creativity. I was wondering how you turn sap into something usable. Thanks for explaining.
🙂
Wow, collecting sap: that’s a ton of extra credit points awarded to you! Very cool.
I couldn’t resist because it smelled so good on my hands!
I really need to get to Lush to try Kerbside Violet. SOTD is Barbara Bui Le Parfum. This turned quickly into a skin scent on me, but very pleasant.
It is not universally loved, but it is worth trying! I liked Barbara Bui.
Good morning ☺
I’m wearing Chanel No. 19 (body lotion and EDT). It’s keeping me calm today, and I need cool and calm, with only 3 days until my son’s wedding. Family members from out of town started arriving and it’s all been great so far. I am trying to relax and just enjoy this time.
I’m sure it will be beautiful! Have a lovely, lovely time!
You smell great! No.19 will keep you composed.
PG Papyrus de Ciane, which goes back into the purgatory box. Sometimes it smells a little like a high end functional product layered over yesterday’s Mitsouko.
I am drinking a mug of BOP Uva Highlands Ceylon.
I’m wearing another old favorite, Silences.
I wore Silences last night. You smell great!
Silences is so eerie and contemplative.
Eerie is a great descriptor! I was thrown by Silences the first time I tried it, but kept thinking about it. It’s been in heavy rotation for me this spring.
I’m another huge fan…
SOTD is Hommage a l’homme
BV Knot for the first time this year, it was a favourite last summer and opened my brain up to orange blossom. Since my work day is over, I dabbed some APOM pour Femme on top. Delicious!
That sounds like a great combo.
It was a bit cooler here today, so I broke out Chinatown. I may have over-dabbed though. I’m starting to give myself a headache.
Too bad 🙁 I love Chinatown….it reminds me of my niece who had several of those “bonbon” samples and wore it often….
I like Chinatown, but it has a very fine tipping point for me.
I really like Chinatown too but I have to be in the mood to wear it. It reminds me of Jungle L”Elephant.
I still can’t wear that Kenzo ????
🙂
The hot weather has finally broken here, so I’m in Dior Homme. Heavenly.
Ha! Twins!
Hi twin!
ooh I have three blotters of that in EdT, EdP, and parfum for a few days now, they are all wafting out sweet incense! Most original.
Hello Hump Day!
A coworker is getting married this weekend and she and I both are in the “it’s ONLY Wednesday!” mode. Hurry up Friday!
It’s also National Jelly Doughnut Day. Last week was National Doughnut Day and we had the interns go get us some. The boss ranted (teased) about the few jellies they bought back, saying: NO ONE eats those! And then we pointed out today’s Day and he then said the interns would still mess up getting jellies for the office. *Le sigh* so no jelly doughnuts today. 😉
I’m in Dior Homme today.
Now I am craving a jelly donut!
Me too!
I eat the jellies! Krispy Kreme jellies are da bomb.
Aak! No reminders of Krispy Kremes as I am on a diet 🙂 !!!
I’m more of a cake donut fan, but I do like jellies every once in a while.
KK anything!
I miss good doughnuts. France does not make good doughnuts. Beignets, sure, but they’re no Krispy Kreme.
Oooh beignets are good for sure, but when faced with a chocolate cake donut – the cake will always win.
y’all are a really bad influence on me!!!! I am suddenly craving jelly donuts, Krispie Kremes, beignets, pain au chocolate, chocolate cake and macaroons! I am trying to actively avoid all sweets- and they are dancing in my head now!
Happy Hump Day! SOTD is Yohji Homme. 🙂
Inspired by Robin’s review, I went to the Chanel boutique today instead of having lunch and sprayed some Boy on my wrist. I agree, it is nice and light (would not have guessed it was EDP) and competent. I keep thinking of 1932: they smell nothing alike, but this seems like a more masculine version of a similar idea – very well blended, very easy to wear, not very exciting. Almost like a Chanel take on a mainstream fragrance.
I don’t need a bottle of this, but I’m considering gifting it.
Do you like it better than 1932?
Difficult question. I’m not crazy about either of them. I think 1932 smells better to me, simply because it’s more in my comfort zone. Boy is slightly more interesting because of that masculine edge.
Hmm really? I find it and 31 Rue Cambon different from the rest of the new offerings, that is excluding the original four. The shaving foam oakmoss accent that cuts through the aromatic lavender, musky vanillic fond is very interesting. Almost back to a Jicky in character without the civet.
Bear in mind, of course, that this is a snap judgement, I could be eating my words in no time. I think Robin also said that it smelled more complex after the first wearing. But I don’t think it’ll ever rival Rue Cambon, Sycomore or Cuir de Russie for me. I absolutely don’t mean to say it’s bad, but some other Chanels are my absolute favourites, so the bar is high.
And I resprayed in the office half an hour ago and have received TWO compliments, one from a man, another from a woman. So there’s that.
😀 Ah, yes, I did find Boy to be ‘the updated Jersey’ for the first try, too. I bought Sycomore first, and after spraying the sample vials liberally, I went back to change it.
It certainly hasn’t reached the signature level of the back catalogue like No.19, but I am happy to hear that you have garnered approvals with it already. I was told by my Estonian apartment mate that it smelled like edgy grandma wearing Brut and her lavender water 😀
And, lunch vs chanel 😀 Of course!
Ha! I thought the same thing.
Interesting. Thanks for this. I’d still like to try it at some point.
I think the exclusifs are always worth trying, this one included. I also got a sample and will definitely retry it soon.
Chanel boutique instead of lunch: Now, that is love and dedication to perfume. And completely understandable! ????
It’s sunny, but a bit chilly and quite breezy, so my plan to wear Hanbury today evaporated. I was thinking of vanilla, but went with a scent I think of as purple: Sous le toit de Paris. Later on I’m gonna spritz on some Iris Nazarena, which is another purple one. I also received my Purple Rain 4ml sample which may or may not feel purple. I have moments of thinking I’d better start layering all kinds of crap because I have so much perfume and I’m old. 😉
Goodness you made me laugh!!!! I am old as well and have also started “layering all kinds of crap” just to drain some bottles (and justify new purchases!)….don’t know what will happen to my collection when I pass on so I might as well try to make a dent in it while I am still alive!
My son has already been informed that some of the perfume here is valuable, but if he doesn’t want to be bothered with selling it or what-have-you he also knows about NST and the freebiemeets which undoubtedly will outlast me. 😀
You are a very smart woman! Your son could probably make a mint selling your collection on ebay! My partner could not be bothered and would probably throw everything in the dumpster!
I’m probably older than either one of you! My collection is so large, that even if I triple-layered, it wouldn’t put much of a dent in it. I have no idea what they will do with my perfumes when I am gone. I am sure my daughter-in-law will take everything that’s Chanel (that’s about all she is into). My granddaughter is only 10 and hasn’t expressed the perfumista gene as yet. I have lots of friends but only one who is into perfume. Maybe I’ll tell my kids to sprinkle a few of my favorite perfumes into my ashes!
Oh god. When perfume outlasts your lifespan 😀
Coming soon to a neighborhood near you. 😉
hahaha I am sorry to disappoint you because my collection comprises mainly of non-vintage Chanel samples. No garrage sale! XD
Hey, better revise your outlook. With our luck we might live to be 95.
????????????????
Hope you can see my emojis ????
I’m sixty. I’m working on passing on whatever I’m not in love with, making decants for whoever’s interested, donating to various places. As I mentioned above, my son knows what to do with whatever will be left over.
I with you Filomena! ????????
Only one thing for it: you’re going to have to hang on for however long it takes for your granddaughter to release her inner perfumista:)
Not sure I want to layer, except for the occasional “this one smells great over this simply-fragranced lotion” and “parfum + edt” – but I need to spritz more.
And sell some stuff I’m not wearing, too.
I’m usually pretty picky, and don’t even wear more than one scent a day. But after doing a reverse KonMari and pulling everything out and depositing it on every surface to shriek and hiss at me, I’ve clearly got to change things up quite a bit. Honestly, it’s primarily the samples and decants which are giving me the willies the most and which I’m most likely to layer.
Oh maybe that is what I should do…put everything within my eyesight so as to no longer be able to deny all that I have and shame me into using it all up before buying anything new….
How do you feel about leathers? I love layering my two most “leather” leathers with my more soliflore florals. Cuir Beluga is divine layered with almost everything.
Love this post! I have started randomly spritzing whatever whenever because I have more perfume than I can get through in 2 lifetimes. 🙂
Yes, exactly! Spray with abandon!
🙂
Yes!! ????
lol!
Love this post! LOVE!
Good morning Sweet Smelling You! Yes, You! 🙂
SOTD: Chloe. Smelling quite posh and elegant, thank you kindly!
Smelly surprise: I ordered a sampler kit of suncare products from Macy’s (on clearance for $14.99, if you are interested!), and was happy to get a generous sample of DKNY Be Delicious included! I have a rollerball of it that I don’t love, but for some reason this sample has a fresher, “applely” smell that is quite nice! Glad to add this to the ole collection…..
Chloe reminds me of my niece….I gifted her a bottle of it for her 14th birthday and for a while it was her signature scent….you smell lovely!
I enjoyed Salome so much yesterday that I decided last night give another chance to some other scents that didn’t totally work for me the first time. I went to bed wearing Femme, Maai, and Bal a Versailles (because it always helps to wear a scent I love when I’m assessing something I’m not sure about). Couldn’t have been too bad because I didn’t scare off the cats. 🙂
Wearing Maai again today because it won me over, too.
Love Bal a Versailles, but haven’t had a chance to try Maai yet. What do you get from it? Sounds like something I’d love too.
I usually have a hard time identifying chypres, but this is a recognizable one. What I really like are the resin and honey facets that make it just a touch sweet and warm.
It’s also not as frighteningly animalic as I expected. I could see it being overwhelmingly strong for some environments if you wear too much, though.
I really wish I liked violets. Sadly, I don’t, and therefore a number of perfumes (including the beloved Misia) aren’t for me.
Wearing Eau Suave today – a bright summer rose chypre that I can put on without even thinking. So glad to have my bottle.
A couple questions:
1) Has anyone tried Courreges Empreinte – vintage or reformulation? I got a vintage mini and fell in love, and I’m reading good things about the reformulation. Just thought I’d check.
2) Has Chanel already made the change over to eaux de parfum for the Exclusifs? Thinking of stopping by Saks to see if the eaux de toilette are still around and if maybe someone would be willing to make a deal. Cuir de Russie is calling my name and I wouldn’t have planned on buying a bottle, but I don’t think I want to spend the new amount for the eau de parfum….
So far amongst the exclusives only Boy is an EDP. The sales person I spoke to last week knew nothing about the others coming out as EDPs – although they can sometimes be the last to know it seems – and right now they are all EDT.
Yes, in my local Chanel boutique all others are EDTs as well. The SA pointed out specifically that Boy is the only EDP.
I wonder if that will keep.
Also – I could just be looking for an excuse to buy some Chanel…
I can relate to that. My thinking usually goes along those lines:
– it’s Wednesday, I should buy some Chanel!
– I stabbed my toe today, should buy some Chanel!
– I have a mildly important meeting tomorrow, should buy some Chanel!
– my new dress does not go with any of the Chanels I currently own – should buy some Chanel!
– I’m completely bankrupt, should buy a Chanel hair mist!
The latter is actually a true story.
Akkiny- that was hysterical…especially the last one!
I meant Annikky…sorry!
This is hilarious, Anikky. But, you have forgotten one: I should go for lunch; I go to Chanel 😀
All valid justifications!
Thanks for letting me know! I’m trying to remember where I read that they’d all be switched to EDP eventually. Not sure.
But later this year, according to my SA
Are they going to only have them in EDP after the switch? I am worried about things smelling different! So far I’ve just seen internet rumors.
Oops I see the answer below.
Aww, I love violets, but I hear you on just some notes not working for you.
If you want, I could send you a sizable decant of CdR from my bottle. I know it would take me an eon to actually go through the bottle I have. I’m glad I got it, but I kinda wish they’d make smaller sizes. It’ll have to be sometime after I get back from the honeymoon if you are interested.
Aww – that’s so sweet of you! I have a decant right now that I should probably use up first, but I’m so grateful to you – thanks!
And yes, isn’t it a bummer when you feel like you’re missing out on something everyone else has been enjoying? What are the notes that do it to you?
I’d love to experience tuberose the way everyone else seems to, and while I’m glad to say I don’t hate it anymore (I *recoiled* when I smelled L’Artisan’s Tubereuse years ago), I still just can’t seem to enjoy it. And not only do I not love the note, but I also have an irrational bias against tuberose-heavy scents as “snobby, wealthy Upper East Side woman” after discovering that so many up here wear them. Silly bias, but I haven’t escaped it yet, irrational as it may be.
Fig is a big one for me. I cannot handle it. And depending on the application, grapefruit also has me wrinkling my nose. I’m not a fan of Diptyque Philosykos and Byredo Pulp has me running, screaming in the opposite direction with garlic and crucifixes (so says the atheist – that’s how bad it is on me).
May you always be able to defend yourself against Pulp’s insidious fruitiness!
Ihadanidea, tuberose used to be my personal hell. Hated it with a passion. And I had the same snooty rich girl association too. Then one hot sultry night I tried BK Beyond Love and for some reason it just clicked. Tuberose even smelled different to me from that point. The light airy ones like Michael Kors still have that spend-a-lot-to-look-trashy feel to me but most tuberose now are all about hot and steamy tropical nights 🙂 waaaay betterer 🙂
Then there is hope for me yet. Though I will admit to not having had a hot, sultry night in a long, loooooong time….
I am with you! I wish I liked tuberose but so far, it’s a big no for me.
Eau Suave is so nice.
Isn’t it? Pretty, and yet with character to it. Delighted to have found it.
I was told by an SA that right now only Boy is an EdP, but in September all the other Exclusifs will be reformulated as EdP’s, so of course the price will be the inflated price of Boy, If any of you want to purchase an Exclusif EdT, do it soon before the new ones come out.
That’s what I’d read somewhere on the fragranced internet as well. Hmmmm….I am tempted.
http://www.basenotes.net/threads/422861-Chanel-Exclusifs-in-EDP-from-2017-no-more-EDT-production-after-Sep-2016
Holy cow! I already can’t afford the EDT and the EDP will be even pricier! yikes! And now that you told me your age do you remember when no 22 was not an exclusive (early 1980s which was when I wore it a lot) and you could buy the EDT in that refillable white lacquer gold rimmed rectangle bottle with the Chanel motif on the cap for around thirty dollars? Gosh I miss those days!!!!
Thank you Holly!
An EDP of 1932 would interest me. EDT smells good but not much, if you know what I mean? They need to increase the oomph factor! (Just for me, of course…LOL)
how much is Boy there? Here it is 222CHF or around 231 UDS for 75 ml. Very expensive. When a fragrance goes beyond 150, I have to wear again and again to make sure that I really absolutely love it.
It’s 185 US for 75 ml, so not quite as bad. But the others are 160.
Ach that answers my question above. I might have to invest in a big bottle of my two favs.
I hope they don’t do away with the EdT versions, but I’ll admit that an EdP for Bel Respiro (or extrait) is something I’ve been wishing for.
Ditto for me for BDI
Oy..although I can’t imagine Eau de Colognebeing an EDP – it would feel too heavy!
SOTD is Sballo over Bonny Doon Farm Rose Geranium shower gel and lotion. The shower gel and lotion are lovely. Not sweet at all and very nice for summer plus they use really good ingredients.
That sounds nice! I think I’ll try Sballo(thanks!) over something rosy.
Truthfully, I don’t get a lot of rose out of the BDF Rose Geranium products. It’s more of a mild peppery geranium scent. However, I think that’s a brilliant idea. I am going to steal your great idea and try that soon. 🙂
I bought some rose otto EO by Auracacia recently so I’m going to try that combo. That EO is gorgeous, but short lived. We’ll have to compare notes!
I think rose geranium is just the name of the type of (pink) geranium, not rose and also geranium. I sniffed several rose geranium-scented things a while back, got no rose, and looked it up. In France, you can never tell if something has rose in it or is just pink (lots of deeply disappointing rose pamplemousse stuff out there, too).
I’m sure that you’re right. I didn’t bother to look it up the notes for body products. I just know that it works for me.
BTW, I love the smell of geranium so it’s a win for me, even sans rose oil.
Have you tried Vetiver Geranium? The rose note is lovely, imo.
I haven’t but some scents that are primarily vetiver scents ignite my allergies. I’m very allergic to grass. Thanks for the suggestion!
Wearing the tiniest spritz of Bandit today.
Excellent choice
Infound a manufacturer’s sample of this while I was organizing my freebies. I need to get the courage to try this.
By the way, I got a bargain bottle of David Beckham Homme based on your comment. I didn’t even look at the notes bit also have not tried it yet. Enabler pin for you!
I woke at 5 and couldn’t get back to sleep so I got up and started the day. I’m wearing Ashoka but wishing I had put on something more floral, like Carnal Flower or Eau de Magnolia. Wish I had a donut. Might go get one!
Donut sounds yummy
Sorry to hear about sleep troubles. Share your sentiment for a floral scent (Seville au L’Aube). Hopefully you can still enjoy Ashoka.
Now I’m hankering for a donut…Hope you enjoy!
Chanel Cuir de Russie for me today. One of the rare Chanels I love; it’s not very strong on me though and wears more like a skin scent despite being extraite.
You smell beautiful.
They have kept the formula very nicely done even in the EdT. The parfum must be stunning!
I haven’t smelled the extrait but I bet you smell glorious.
I find most extraits wear as skin scents. Their longevity and beauty more than makes up for the decrease in sillage. Love CdR!
You smell fabulous!
Jour d’Hermès Gardénia
Sycomore today for some smoky vetiver that feels like a monolithic pillar of strength.
A very evocative description!
perfume and prose 🙂
You are in Les Exclusive de Chanel too 🙂
Somehow, when I ‘get’ Chanel, I find that it has such a quality with most, if not everything, they do. Even with the more mainstream Bleu de Chanel or Coco Noir, if not edgy or signature, there is quality. And, there is also that finesse in restraint — they do a patchouli in Coromandel, but it never goes into the realm of hippiedom or Borneo 1834. An oriental in Coco that never goes into the Opium den. Or, a lipstick-powder puff in Misia that never gets too sweet or powderyyy .
I tried some Chanels before – like the usual suspects, No 5 and few other “numbers” – but did not like them, they smell too abstractly of a PERFUME. Maybe, it’s the aldehydes? Chanel released a video where they talk about their perfumes being artificial, I find it very true about the ones i tried, and do not like that. Perhaps, it’s time to revisit them again.
I think it’s the abstract “perfume” quality that I love most in Chanels. My mother had a set of Chanels in the little glass dauber bottles with the tiny disk shaped tops when I was little, so they are part of my childhood scent memory. She wore 19 and 5 a lot when she and dad went out for the evening and I always used to sniff her perfume when she kissed me before they left. When the bottles were empty I got to play with them.
Indeed, those screams ‘PERFUME’ to me as well — 5 and 22 for me. Somehow I find that aldehydic shriek to be satisfying in some ways; I mean it gives a perfume and not just flowers mixed together. It’s like why do we even make cheese ‘rotten’ in various ways 😀
It is absolutely the aldehydes. They can register as “artificial”, however, almost all perfumes use synthetic materials to enhance their fragrances (i.e. Iso E Super), so I wouldn’t classify Chanels as especially “artificial”.
I think the classical use of aldehydes (well-blended, but packing a punch) doesn’t usually appeal to more modern sensibilities. If that’s the case for you then I highly suggest you try the re-imagined No. 5 Eau Premiere and No. 19 Poudre. Both retain the unique structures of the originals, so they can be a good way to ease into the classical Chanels. Good luck!
It’s just a thought but maybe that video was made in part because Chanel (here at least) has a reputation for continuing their use of animal ingredients long after many other brands stopped. Ive heard a number of women question the use of their ingredients over the years (not recently at all though). It just seems a bit odd to advertise artificiality when most brands are even more artificial, and Chanel famously uses a high percentage of Grasse grown natural oils. Or did…
Hi Nick, such a great description of the Chanels. I was thinking about re-trying Sycamore. On my way back from India this year, I tried all the Exclusives at Heathrow duty free, but I think my sniffer was still in an altered state from being in India so I didn’t really smell them properly.
That is very true. When I was in Bangkok last year, the tropical flavours and smells simply overwhelmed my senses. I stopped wearing perfume altogether there.
Great description of a great scent!
I’m in MCG, umm, Syconium. I needed a comfort scent today and this is doing the trick.
I hope that everything is okay and your day improves! I’m sure you smell wonderful.
Thanks Petunia! You’re very kind???? Nothing earth shattering, but just a couple of stressors today that need some TLC.
Sunny, breezy and quite cool here today. SOTD is Teo Cabanel Early Roses, from the bottle I bought off ebay recently (slightly used, 50ml, $53 with shipping).
Early Roses had been on my Consider Buying list, but it was well behind MFK Lumiere Noire pour femme until I found this deeply discounted bottle. I feel slightly guilty that I didn’t get LNpf first, because now I’m saving up again for it (my second 10ml decant is almost gone), but I couldn’t turn down the Early Roses bargain. Anybody else have something similar happen? You want Perfume X more, but then you find Perfume Y, that you also want, for such a good deal that you buy Y first?
That ends up being my strategy all the time – though perhaps it’s generous to call it such. My focus will be on one thing, but then something else I like becomes available and I take advantage of the opportunity. I think I’ve ended up with more bottles I don’t need that way. But it sounds like you’re loving Early Roses! Off to look that one up on Fragrantica…
All the time Mals. It’s hard to pass up a good deal. I recently tried A La Rose by MFK, really pretty.
Teo Cabanel makes some nice one! I bought a solid cheap off of eBay
Sure, you have to grab the deal if it’s really good; you may not see it again
Same – if the opportunity presents itself then I will grab it. Although I have gone on perfume hunts for a particular scent, especially around sale times.
SOTD is Bruno Fazzolari’s Au Dela.
You smell lovely!
Yum… I need to wear that soon. You smell great!
I was debating on wearing either Epic or Memoir and to decide, I smelled both. Epic won out, even though I get more compliments on Memoir than I do Epic. Epic must be too strange for most people.
Actually, I tend to have pretty tame taste and I absolutely LOVE Epic. Love it. To be fair, I only tried it once in a perfume shop, and it was maybe the fifteenth scent I tried, but I am pretty sure I would love it if I found it again. I can’t decide if I should get a sample or not, because even if I do end up adoring it, it’s not like I’m going to shell out 250€ for a bottle.
Get a sample! Surrender to Chance has it for a reasonable price, decant wise. If you do love it, you can get a large decant and save your pennies for a full bottle. Probably your cheapest bet might be on FragranceNet for a full bottle or go for the Epic bath stuff.
Absolutely STC decant is the way to go for some of the Amouages. I had a 5ml. rollerball of Interlude Man and it lasted about three years because the stuff is so potent.
You guys are enabling me!!! Hmmmm. I’m on a no-buy, but a $12 sample doesn’t count as a purchase, right?
And, Koyel, I will be sending you that freebie pack a general todsy. My office has been understaffed and overwhelmed with technical problems this week, but tomorrow there will be breathing room! Er, I mean today…
Should I take this as a hint to hold off on getting the sample of Epic, or as a reminder that I should be able to stick to my no-buy rule because I’m about to get a pile of fun new things to try? Sorry you had such a busy week! I’m glad things are settling down 🙂
You smell fantastic. They are two of my most complimented perfumes, but Epic wins maybe because it’s so hard to ignore. I get positive comments almost every time I wear it.
“Because it is so hard to ignore!” ROFL! Now I know which Amouage to test next!
I love today’s photo.
SOTD is Philosykos. I might top it up with a dab of Premier Figier later on.
Ooh. I tried this in Nordstrom last week. You smell lovely.
You smell great!
Yum. The great figs!
I’m saving my sample to wear to a wedding later this summer. It’s a lovely scent. You smell great!
Today I am wearing L’air du Desert Maricain by Tauer Perfumes that I received a sample of. It is a beautiful scent that is breaking my heart because it is killing my allergies. Le sigh…
Oh no… but you do smell good. Did you spray near your face? If so, you could try it again before you shower but spray it lower on your body and away from your face.
Oh no, that’s so sad!!!! That’s probably my favorite Tauer scent. I drained my sample of that so quickly. Do you know what is in it that is causing your allergies?
Sorry to hear about allergies! I also have them bad, but LADDM does not trigger them.
SOTD is No 5 Eau Premiere – inspired by Robin’s Chanel Boy post yesterday. But it’s fffreeezing here today! I should have worn a winter fragrance!
I recently began to appreciate Eau Premiere again. It had fallen off my list of “likes” but this spring it seems to have clicked for me.
Thanks for the reminder about Robin’s Chanel Boy post. Just checked and there are 104 comments. Can’t wait to read all the thoughts and recommendations.
What a great update on the original.
Absolutely. Eau Premiere was actually my gateway into No 5 and now I love all the iterations. But I wish they hadn’t tinkered with the Eau Premiere formula so much. I am very curious about the “new” L’Eau of No 5.
I can’t believe how cold it is! It was fine this morning then a storm blew through and took summer with it.
So true. Just now I went out to run an errand for the office and it was 56F outside with sideways rain. Ugh. Spring is drunk and can’t decide what it wants to do.
It is about 47 degrees here and the wind is blowing like H#^^ so it feels worse. I had to warm things up a bit so I put on a few dabs of Tauer’s L’ADDM. I swear you can layer that fragrance with anything! But it certainly helped make me feel better. Yesterday I was on our lake beach with my daughter swimming and today I’m fishing out my wool cardigans! Grrrr!!!
Commando, lots of bad legal news today, still processing it and regrouping. Health and family ok.
Oh I’m so sorry.
Ugh, hang in there. Wishing you a fragrantly uplifting day.
At least health and family are okay – hang in there!
Sorry to hear that 🙁 Fingers crossed for you!
Ugh, so sorry.
Very sorry to hear that! Sterkte
I wish you the strength to overcome these hurdles!
So sorry. I hope you get through this ok.
Oh boy, I’m so sorry. I know how tough that is.
Sending more sympathy. And put on some Joy…
Oh, gosh. Sending you strength and comfort.
That’s distressing. I’m very sorry to hear about it and hope things either improve or bring some unforeseen good fortune.
Best wishes for a good outcome for you. The worst part about legal matters is that they drag on for so long which makes the stress so much worse.
Yikes! I hope resolution is swift!
Yay for World Oceans Day. Let’s make it a great one! It’s chilly this morning, but I will put my toes in the Pacific Ocean today and pick up some trash at the beach.
My favorite Wednesday:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wednesday_Addams
SotD is Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue which I was reminded of when I saw the Pantone colors at the top of today’s post and then thought of a recent NST comment comparing Absolue and Prada Purple Rain.
Absolue because helped me realize that I am very sensitive to benzoin. It overwhelms my nose, so I sniff very carefully to find the other notes.
I love Pantone color chips. The visual stimulus is delightful and the order is soothing. I need calm today after a verbal smack down from a beloved family member who felt because I was not adequately fulfilling their emotional needs that I should compensate them monetarily. Ummm, no.
#teenlifecanbehard #momisnotmadeofmoney 😉
That stinks. But you smell great. And I too love Pantone color chips.
Wait… what?! That doesn’t even make sense. It just reeks of that family member guilt tripping you into giving them money. That’s messed up.
I like Pantone color chips too, but I rarely ever agree with what color they choose for the year.
Oh, tiffanie, that is just…so not cool. Do find yourself as much calm and soothing as you need today!
I applaud you for recognizing what was going on and standing firm!
Wha??? That seems like a seriously messed up thought process!
Oy on the benzoin (I love it).
Wearing a huge dose of Apoteker Tepe Peradam because the first time I tried it, it seemed super light. Now I am getting a strong sandalwood smell that is teetering on skanky (but not when smelled up close, just hovering in the air around me) and some cool dry iris. The reviews on Twisted Lily for this were very enthusiastic but it is not quite the religious experience I was expecting.
I find this one interesting and it is often a bit different in different readings, but religious experience . . . not so much.
I wanted to love this, but it was nothing much compared to my favorites, Tam Dao, Avignon, and Ancient Resins, so I passed my sample on…
Have you tried SSS Incense Pure or SSS Naturals Amber Incense? Those are my favorite “religious experiences”….
Ditto on Incense Pure. I haven’t tried her naturals, yet…
I wouldn’t really compare it to Tam Dao. It’s all about the orris for me!
I had a dinky dabber which I passed on because I found it meh. I don’t regret that, but now you’ve piqued my interest. Fortunately I have finally pledged never to take myself seriously when sniffing anything just dabbed, so perhaps I’ll buy a few dabbers and see what happens when spritzed.
Took an afternoon shower as I’ve been a little sickish today and inspired by you put on Peradam after. I really do like it a lot, the earthiness of it together with a certain refinement. It also suits my stomach today!
I only like the bottles.
I am wearing Chanel Gardenia today. One of my old favorites that I forgot about. I enjoy this a lot, it is one of the scents that each time I wear it, I ask myself why don’t I wear it more often.
I haven’t smelled Gardenia in years, but I was eyeing it up on the Chanel site yesterday. Which concentration do you wear?
Yes, I am curious about the parfum, too. The EdT is pretty and quality, but doesn’t strike me.
I am wearing an old bottle of edt. I am not sure if the new one is the same. I would like to try the extrait one day.
All this Chanel talk – I’ve doused myself in 28 La Pausa. To think I thought I didn’t like Chanels a year ago . . .
I also find it interesting how polarizing these pretty well-mannered scents are. Some I dislike, of course, but there’s very little I get actively mad at.
That is a massive iris butter you have on you 🙂 That is as Chanel-esque as you can get
Today seems quite a “Chanel” day. Or, perhaps, I am noticing it more, since I myself am in Chanel 🙂
After the Boy review, everybody gets inspired!
Exactly!
I am sad for Hamamelis and Tiffanie and grateful for having a moment of equilibrium, personally.
I decided to try the Sublime by Jean Patou mini I just got. Why is it I love so many perfumes? Is there something wrong with me?
I’m so opinionated in every aspect of my life (or if not opinionated, I do easily have choices) but somehow so many perfumes fulfill me in some way.
Amy just posted above me and it is a variation on the theme. Glass half full.
I think it is wired in us that olfactory monogamy is impossible. Even if one sticks to one perfume for a whole life, one surely has those favourite scents of foods and drinks.
Hi PrincessTonk, variety is the spice of life, especially where fragrances are concerned, yes?
Thanks for the kinds words. Things are trending upward today. 🙂
I had a very uncharacteristic layering moment today, and it worked a treat! First I doused myself in Yatagan which was all I planned to wear as the herbal dirtiness was perfect for the crispness of todays sunny cold day. Then I kept sniffing the bunch of jonquils I bought and decided I needed a bit of green floral warmth to combat the cold so layered some Ostara. The sweet green floral and the dirty herbs blended perfectly. Yummo!
I love it that you got your creative inspiration from smelling jonquils.
Ostara is jonquils? Have to try that…
Daffodils actually, but close enough seeing I dont have any jonquil perfumes… does anyone know of any?
I am going to recommend Dame Perfumery’s Narcissus but start with a travel spray which is highly affordable and free shipping in case you don’t like it….(it really is daffodil but my nose can’t differentiate between jonquil and daffodils in perfume)….
I tried, but his website specifies that he wont post here. I was thinking of finding a cute postcard with koalas and kangaroos and begging 🙂
But thanks for the rec chocolatemarzipan (btw everytime I read that I want choc marzipan…). Also glad to hear that they would be similar/same scents so Im not tracking different paths for each variation of the bulb!
If you are in Australia I am pretty sure that he is able to mail the soliflore oils there (Narcissus can be purchased as a soliflore oil for $35)…..another thing you can do is try the postcard sampling…send him a postcard with your sample request but make sure to ask for an oil sample…..
(I had really wanted my name to be “marzipan” but that was already taken and I was prohibited from using it…..and then I remember the dark chocolate covered marzipan bar from Europe I used to love to eat as a child so I went with chocolate marzipan…no one had claimed that name yet!)
https://export.dameperfumery.com/pages/frontpage
Perthgirl-
I was correct…click on the link to see what is available for international shipping….the offerings are even more than I imagined! and the shipping to Australia is free….. but I must warn you that Narcissus is potent…it is a love it or hate it kind of fragrance…others at NST have tried it so hopefully they will chime in….(that would be you MALS 🙂 !!!)
nature works wonders 😀
Jeez, how interesting that you’re inclined the same way as me today!
Lol! I laughed at your post. It made me realise however, that in order to get the most of my investments before I die, I have a hell of a lot of layering to do!!!
Yatagan is a great layering fragrance. I like it with Tea Rose and also jasmine soliflores.
Brilliant! I’ll have to try this and also stinker_kit’s suggestions.
Tom Ford has a jonquille perfume. I remember reading a review at What Men Should Smell Like.
Fantastic graphic, Robin! And great review of Boy yesterday. I tootled on over to the Chanel website and kind of drooled over all of the perfumes there. There’s something about getting a perfume straight from the house and not a discounter that feels so decadent. And I like the straightforward dollar amounts on the Chanels – they are a bit high but not out of the realm of possibility.
Day off today and will probably do my new warm weather jasmine bomb: a few drops of pure jasmine absolue layered with l’air de Rien.
Ooh! That sounds like a fantastic combo. Let us know how it works out!
Well one would think that jasmine oil would make L’air de Rien a little more respectable, but it actually has the opposite effect. It seems to put a focusing frame around the musky bedroom smell.
I can see that. Even more curious now, but I’ll try it at home.
Thank you!
That sounds *amazing* – wish I could smell you!
Also, I love the verb “tootled”.
Art de Parfum “Signature Wild”. Very lovely. Didn’t cope with a busy conference in a 1930s building with no aircon – but I doubt anything could. :^)
Koenigsberg, following up on your recommendation yesterday, I’m sampling Baruti Indigo. It’s reminding me a bit of L’AP Dzongka, I think, but more wearable. I like it, which means the line is batting 3/3 so far.
I mentioned yesterday that I had seen a footnote indicating that Baruti Berlin im Winter was a reworking of Indigo. That may well be the case, but they create a very different impression. Indigo seems like an incense perfume to me, whereas cassis is central to Berlin im Winter.
Excellent! Because now I am curious to see what I make of Berline im Winter – to me, the name is very evocative!
I know people get too cold, but conferences in the heat without AC send me over the edge.
It was all a bit hot and sticky by the end – an unusually warm and humid day in London, with thunderstorms that really didn’t help.
SotD is not yet released Iris Musque from Atelier des Ors
Mmm, did you review this? How do you find it?
Not yet, meredifay.
It’s a lovely powdery and musky iris.
Is it a musky iris? I like that combination in 19 Poudré hmm.
Yes, a musky iris 🙂
*drools*
Ooh!
😉
Horrible crazy week at work.
SOTD=Shalimar, newish EDP.
As I was walking down the long hall, I caught a whiff of Dolce & Gabbana The One, which is like Shalimar’s cheeky little sister. Maybe I will wear that Friday…
Yuck — at least it’s halfway over.
Yes, thank you!
SOTD = L’Artisan Seville au L’Aube
Spicy orange blossom! <3
Robin – what are your thoughts on Kerbside Violet? I was surprised it's not floral or sweet on me at all. Rather, it was such a refreshing green that I ended up with a bottle. Do you get more violet?
I reviewed it (link above) — I really like it, and do get violet, but it isn’t a feminine floral sort of violet.
Have you tried Don’t Rain on my Parade shower gel? I thought it’d be the same smell, but I think I recall the Kerbside being much greener.
I thought I’d love Don’t Rain, but I didn’t — sorry I can’t remember why!
I’m already complaining about the AC blasting in the office. Worst part of summer season! I sit all day wrapped in a dang blanket.
Also makes it tricky for scent since the temp is so cool inside I want cozy, wintry scents, but then once outside I’m a stinker.
SOTD is Cuir de Lancome
Blanket twins! I feel ridiculous walking around our office in a coat/blanket in the summer, but I dislike having my fingers turn blue from the cold.
I like that the volume gets turned up on my scent from the heat outside. It means that I’m going home and can relax in whatever sillage I want! 😉
Cuir de Lancôme is wonderful. You smell amazing.
Blanket twins! Love it!
me three! (except I pretty much have this issue of needing a huge sweater or blanket in the office all year round as I live in a temperate climate) and I also have the same issue with wanting the winter scents!
I have these nice merino cardigans, one navy, one espresso, one oatmeal. I wear the all the time. Today is a oatmeal day…
You smell great!
You smell fantastic!
It’s been so hot that the AC has been cranked and I think when the temp drops suddenly, they don’t adjust accordingly right away. It’s feeling especially uncomfortable now that my shoes are squishy and soggy from getting caught in the rain. Yuck.
Yes, that’s what I think happens as well. Off to get another cup of hot tea!
I have a cotton / polyester (I think) hi/lo black cardigan that I keep in the office. If I am not wearing a blazer, I wear it to keep me warmer when the AC is on at full blast. I sit next to the vents.
Narciso (white) is my SOTD.
Someone close by at work said that something smelled like Love’s Baby Soft. Now I’m fretting that:
A) I may have over-applied since I was about 6 feet away, and
B) that this DOES actually smell like Love’s Baby Soft which I was obsessed with as a child. Maybe that is why I like this so much?
Love Narciso!
It seems a lot of scents I like get compared to Love’s Baby Soft (I read that repeatedly about a discontinued Kenzo I used to wear). I’m not sure if LBS has changed over the years, but I’ve smelled it a few times at the drugstore recently, and I don’t think it smells like Narciso (though they might have had a point about Kenzo :))
Which Kenzo was it? We dont have LBS here so just wondering..
It was the little talked about Flower Le Parfum, which, I think was even sweeter and more powdery than the original (though I haven’t smelled the original in many years)
I find that Dame Perfumery’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla reminds me of a grown up version of Love’s Baby Soft…same for his Dark Horse…and I love and wear them both….
It’s the musk, right?
Great scent! Smell’ good!
I’d happily sit near you wafting Narciso. I honestly don’t remember how Love’s Baby Soft smelled… I think Narciso is beautiful and creamy, and I was generous spraying myself yesterday. Kept snuffing my arm…
My recollection of LBS is that it smelled like J&J baby powder.
SOTD is Dune.
So good that one!
🙂
You smell wonderful!
I guess this week is turning into a “summer roses” week for me: I’m in Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia. Mostly, I get citrusy roses from this, we’ll see what happens later today when the AC gets hiked up.
Oh! And for the curious: by my count the “winners” from the Chanel poll were:
1. 31 Rue de Cambon
2. No. 19 (I didn’t differentiate between formulations)
3. Bois des Iles
Some others that made a good showing: Coco, Cristalle, Cuir de Russie, Misia, Sycomore.
The poll seems to have inspired lots of people today.
Agreed
Ooh, I think I picked these exact ones!
I need to give Kerbside Violet a sniff one of these days, though so far I haven’t really loved any of the Lush perfumes (Flowers Barrow is rather compelling, though). Another chilly, foggy day here that called for a comfort scent, so I’m in my beloved Douce Amer, and can’t stop sniffing myself. 🙂
You smell great!
Someone mentioned Ineke Evening Etched in Gold the other day, so I decided to pull out my sample collection of Ineke scents. Bought it over a year ago and haven’t really cracked into them much.
I had hoped to get out there and get the leg some exercise but I’m hesitant with the rain. So…will probably wait till tomorrow to do a bunch of errands. Including, I hope, getting those freebies out the door!
that was me! Evening Edged in Gold is my favorite of the Ineke line and I recently drained my full bottle….will be curious to hear how you are getting on with the sample collection….Field Notes from Paris gets a lot of love from others here too!
Hey, we haven’t had a new Ineke in a good long time!
So true!!! I think Hothouse Flower was the last one released a few years ago…that mean the next release will begin with a letter “I”……
maybe I need to eat my words for my current research on fragrantica revealed that in 2015 two new fragrances were released…”Idyllwild” and “Jack & Jackie”….however, I cannot find anyone that sells them….they are not even listed on the Ineke website….
Fragrantica lists things as launched when they’ve been presented to the press, so possibly that means they are coming soon.
Wearing Maria Candida Gentile Finisterre from a sample pack I keep at the office. I ran out of the house in a hurry without putting anything on. Not quite sure what I think of this one other than it’s pleasant, but there are other Marine scents I think I prefer. Does anyone have thoughts on her perfumes?
I like Sideris and Exultat very much. I probably haven’t tried Finisterre, as I’m not crazy about marine scents (with the exception of Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel).
I like some of her offerings, but own only Rrose Selavy, which appears to be polarizing, and Syconium. I’ve also liked Hanbury and Sideris but haven’t invested in them. I love that she offers 15ml bottles and that alone makes me want to support her line!!! I generally feel like her stuff is well made and smells like quality materials, and she has some unique takes on common themes.
I tried and enjoyed “Elephant & Roses”, which I noted as ‘Hay with meadowsweet, some animal/ stable smell’. I have a bunch of other samples still to enjoy – pretty much everything bar Rrose Selavy.
I liked Noir Tropical until I didn’t. I gave the bottle to an NSTer. I kept a decant for reference and when I’m into that type of musky vanilla.
Sotd: Juniper Sling
Perfect scent as I’m on the elliptical, sweating and commenting up a storm today. It made my workout go by quickly- yes! ????
I’m planning on dropping in to my local Lush this week, so I should finally be able to sniff Kerbside Violet–woot!
SOTD is Demeter Pink Grapefruit.
Hi Creosote, We keep missing each other. I did not receive your email. Please try again or send your adress to me so I can give it a whirl.
Nuts. I sent two so it seems I must’ve decoded your address wrong–but I can’t figure out how. [facepalm!] So, I’ll give you my address: I’m seshat77 at yahoooo dawt com.
Emailing now.
So, please let me know if you don’t my email….this is almost comical. ????
Got it! And replied. (Fingers crossed, this one will work.) Comical is right! Story of my life! ????
Big Thing due today so I reached into the cup of swapped/inherited samples to put on something intriguing to hold my focus, a tiny vial with one application of Amouage Fate. It didn’t specify Man or Woman, and I can’t tell from the note lists what I’m wearing. There’s an incense-y, herby, almost mint quality. Anyone can help?
Sounds like the men’s version. The woman’s version smells like spiced, hot, cinnamony baby powder. And I mean that in the best way possible.
Thank you! This one is definitely more cool than warm.
Fun in a tacky, red bottle for me! Gucci Rush.
Rush!!! Love it!!!!! …at my old job I kept a bottle on my desk and the plastic broke and leaked all over…my office mate had a fit as it wafted throughout the room for days…..since she was such a nasty person I felt not a stitch of guilt!!!!
I remember liking that but can’t really remember now what it smells like!
Trying Ivoire again. It smells like it would be a good office scent, but it disappears before lunch. I’m tempted to step past the self-imposed 2-spritz policy for work (due to a cranky colleague) to see whether that would help.
I’m wearing L’eau de L’Artisan today. Fresh and summery without a laundry detergent vibe.
Does anyone know where I can get Chanel samples? I really want to try Boy and Chanel won’t mail samples. I don’t live near a boutique. Plus they stopped the online decanters from selling their fragrances. ????
I didn’t think about the world’s oceans when I chose a scent to wear today, but the seaweed note is perfect! ????
Wow, so many comments – I”ve got days worth to catch up on now. I’m looking out at a glorious pink sky this morning, which quite puts me in the mood for a rose perfume. I think maybe Le Galion’s Rose.
Lush Lust AND Mohur Extrait, because I’m going to the feminist demonstration and want my perfume to say we are not fooling around. It feels ginormous and super good, like Joy from a bigger, wilder planet.
Wow, that sounds the olfactory equivalent of “I am woman, hear me roar!” 🙂
Ditto!
Just a note: on Parfum1.com, 17-sample Discovery Pack by Maison Francis Kurkdjian is $58 plus there is a 20% off promotion (code right on the site) If your order totals $75, shipping is free, otherwise $5.95
Oops…did I buy the last one?
I’m using today’s rainy and unseasonably chilly weather as an excuse to wear the cozy Bois Farine, which I usually reserve for fall and winter.
I have not worn this in a long time. You smell good!
SOTD is vintage Coty L’Aimant to honor a former co-worker that a group of us visited today who’s turning 93 in a few days. She was on the cusp of retirement when I joined the organization years ago, and when she and several of her contemporaries retired they unofficially organized a Ladies’ Retirement group that met once a month for breakfast for several decades thereafter, as well as always attending various celebratory events for those of us who were still working there. Although I moved on to another organization to further my career I began joining them for breakfast once I retired a few years ago. These women were great inspirations to me, bravely and humbly soldiering on through loss of spouses, deaths of children, cancer, and old age until one by one they were all gone except for Margaret. Last year I convinced several other women I used to know there who were retiring to join me in the Second Generation of the group to carry on their legacy. Margaret doesn’t join us anymore due to various infirmities so we decided to bring the party to her. A very classy lady, she was always beautifully dressed and coifed and wore lovely antique jewelry she had inherited from several relatives. L’Aimant just seemed the right choice for today’s very gratifying visit.
What a nice story! Good that you are carrying the tradition. Good karma will bounce back!
A lovely story and sentiment. Thanks for sharing!
That is so very nice.
Laila, that is such a great story! And kudos for taking the party to her! I think that sort of regular meet-up is one of the only/best ways to stave off drifting apart among groups of friends together after graduation/retirement, etc.
So moving! I just got a little teary eyed reading that. Kudos to you, though it sounds like a pleasure for you.
Late to the party because I did not have a moment to myself! I had to scarf down lunch! I faked it again today!
SOTD = SSS Yin and Ylang (2 spritzes) + Chanel No.19 EDP (3 spritzes)
This approximates 31 Rue Cambon. I don’t know how much I saved by not just using 5 spritzes of 31RC but the combo gave me triple the pleasure because I got each perfume separately PLUS the approximation of another one. In hindsight, had my No.19 EDT been on hand, I would have used it instead of the EDP. I also think Prada Influsion Fleurs d’ Oranger or Le Galion Iris could have worked as well.
Yesterday’s fake it experiment involved using Cuir Beluga (which is not inexpensive); however, because I was able to avoid using 2 spritzes of SDV to achieve my normal SDV concentration, I saved by using more spritzes of a bargain-priced perfume.
I got your logic on these! Every pricey spritz saved is dollars for more perfume – and helping the less expensive lines stay afloat. It’s a gift!
Crikey, I bet that smells fantastic!
You’re getting really good at this layering business!
Ok, that makes sense 🙂 I hope to someday get as good at layering as some of you are!
Late again. Things are crazy here, but several spritzes of Cristalle improved the evening. ‘Night, all.
