Our standard-issue open thread poll: talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, the last perfume that spoiled before you managed to use it up, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Record heat is expected today and tomorrow here in Oregon, so I am wearing my summer staple–Zeta.
I am trying to get all my chores done this morning so I won’t have to bustle around in the heat.
And then, strawberry picking! My favorite u-pick farm is open for business, and the local strawberries only last a few weeks, so I need to hop on it and get out there. Most will be eaten fresh, but I’d like to make freezer jam and berry syrup, too. Might wait on the syrup for when I won’t be canning in 90+ degree heat, though!
I haven’t been strawberry picking in forever! Fresh sun warmed juicy berries eaten 2 seconds off the plant equals heaven
Agreed! There’s always a bit of attrition as I pick them due to necessary “testing of the merchandise.” 😉 And I wish I could bottle the true scent of fresh berries in the field. Nothing “strawberry” I’ve sniffed so far comes close.
Love the smell of fresh strawberries.
Love any kind of fruit picking! Great way to enjoy the weekend????
I feel so fortunate to have so much fresh produce locally! I do berries every year, peaches, pears and apples later in the summer, and nearly always go get my squash from the farm in October, as well!
There’s nothing like fresh picked strawberries that have been sitting in the sun. I’ve got great memories, and not so great memories (from over eating as I picked) from when I was a child going with my family to the local fields.
Enjoy!
Thanks, floralgal. Now I get to enjoy eating (and overeating) berries for a few days! 🙂
I wish Andy Tauer would bring Zeta back — it came and went before I had a chance to try it, and since linden and Andy Tauer both rock my world, it sounds heavenly to me. Have fun strawberry picking! I have happy memories of gorging myself at a U-pick farm near Warwick castle during a high-school trip to England, followed by a picnic of excellent bread and cheese and even more berries. And I agree that no one seems to have captured the true, mouthwatering smell of sun-warmed ripe strawberries!
I emailed him when I decided I needed a back-up bottle, and he said that he checked and there wasn’t any left–not in the warehouse here in the States and not in Europe. 🙁 The tone of his response was friendly, but did not give me any hope that he would bring it back. Occasionally there’s a stray bottle on ebay or something, but obviously, not a great idea to blind buy.
And I’m pretty sure eating berries as you go is a given. 😀
Sounds great, I’ve got lovely memories of strawberry picking as a child.
Most of my friends who grew up in the valley have a sort of love/hate thing with berry picking. Most were made to do it as a summer job and it’s miserable work, but they can’t help but still love the fresh, delicious berries! I grew up on the coast, so that wasn’t a part of my upbringing–I get to enjoy it without the child-labor nostalgia. 😉
I just looked up the weather for Portland – holy melting asphalt, it’s 95 degrees! Time to head for the mountains or the beach. 🙂
Berry picking, now that brings back memories. We picked blueberries when we were at the beach (the Long Beach peninsula used to have blueberry farms) and raspberries and blackberries everywhere. The smell of those raspberries was pure heaven.
The mountains are just as hot! It’s a beach or river day for sure. 97F on my shaded patio thermometer.
“Holy melting asphalt” – 😀
Strawberry freezer jam is the best — such a bright, fresh taste, as well as so little work.
My sampling sprees were when I was a teenager picking cherries.
Sniffed Rue Cambon yesterday for the first time courtesy of a lovely NSTer which I had never gotten around to…
It is amazing! I don’t remember the last time I have been this excited over a perfume. Kind of restores your faith in modern perfume making. I went to bed thinking about it and woke up with it still on my mind. When I sniffed it all the perfumes I’ve ever swooned over came rushing back. What great stuff.
Debating if I should get the smaller bottle or 6.8 oz. size. Does anyone have the big size and if so is it unwieldly? Seems like a toe could be broken if not careful.
Isn’t it the best scent? I absolutely fell in love with it and like you could not remember ever being this excited about a perfume. I did get the smaller bottle and have been happy with that decision as I don’t wear 31 RC every day. If I was wearing it more frequently I probably would have gone with the larger bottle. I have a tendency to wear it on more special occasions, but still reach for it on a regular basis.
I just can’t pay that much more per ounce to have a smaller bottle, even if I won’t use it*. One day I expect I’ll buy the big bottle and be very free with large samples/spray my sheets/dump it in my bat water/whatever to use it up. I hadn’t thought of the difficulty of spraying from such a large bottle but I’m sure I could make it work.
*This is why I can’t shop at Costco or Sam’s without a level-headed sidekick. I do know that I’m not actually saving money but I can’t resist.
Bath water. I don’t plan to make flying fox soup 😉
I dunno, maybe “bat water” is some sort of beauty aid?! “Just dab a little bat water under the eyes before you go to bed. . .”
The newest Korean beauty craze? 🙂
You know, it’s what’s left over after you bathe your bats. 🙂
😀
I’ve had this same debate myself – if you have man-hands, you would be fine. The only reason I got the 6.8 oz bottle of Sycomore despite having small hands was 1) I needed to spend a little bit more to get a larger discount 2) I knew there was interest in splits and 3) I don’t have a monogamous relationship with it. All my other Les Exclusifs are 2.5 oz, even 8-spray La Pausa. I have the same dilemma with Dior Collection Privee and I chose the smaller bottle option.
I love the big bottles, despite the slight unwieldiness.
Wow, I’ve never tried this one (I think I may have sprayed it on a card??). But your overwhelming love for it is encouraging me to try it! There’s nothing like swooning!
I love 31 RC, and not to be an enabler, but its so elegant and lovely. I have some from the split meet if you want to wait until then
It’s not really oriental-perfume-weather around here today but I’m in Blocki This Grand Affair. It’s very much in the style of a vintage oriental – like Emeraude or Nuit de Chine – but it’s citrusy enough to work in warm weather.
I remember this smelling really nice when I did my Twisted Lily sniffathon.
Love This Grand Affair. I got a good-sized decant in the swapmeet and hope it’s still around when I finish the decant. It is like a deeper, more sophisticated version of Jean Patou Sublime (to me).
Taking my son for a haircut today. He is almost 14 and has decided that long hair is cool, basically because he wants to look like a rock star. I can compromise with him, but right now he just looks like his mama doesn’t care. sotd is VS Very Sexy Now 2014 edition. It matches the smell of my self tanning lotion I just tried.
Some day he’s going to see a photo of himself and ask, “Mom, why didn’t you make me cut my hair?” as his significant other guffaws in the background.
Ha, my son is 17 and has looked like his mama doesn’t care since he was 12 or 13. All I can say is it could be way worse…I put my foot down about the scraggly teen “beard”.
I don’t want to think about facial hair yet.
My 17-yo has a cheapie electric razor which he uses maybe 2-3 times a week. The 15-yo is starting to sport a faint mustache…
Wearing by Killian Rose Oud today. Heading out to the Chicago Botanic Gardens, but I think the rain will eventually chase us out. So far I haven’t had any of my perfumes spoil (thank goodness!), but I have had samples evaporate, and that makes me sad enough. Last night I ordered the Bruno Fazzolari sample set, and I’m looking forward to trying those. I like that you get $15 off a full bottle if you order the sample set through them.
The Chicago Botanic Garden is one of my absolute favorite places. I love the English walled garden (along with the Japanese gardens, all those roses, etc.) So wonderful. Hope it doesn’t rain on you! And you smell great!
Honey Blossom today from a sample,
How are you liking this?
And I’m in Cacao, one of the Aftelier’s I received yesterday.
It’s very interesting, lots of citrus, some jasmine and then the cacao. Definitely more orange/chocolate coming thru.
Perfume strength is the way to go with her stuff.
Interested to hear about the Honey Blossom too!
I need to get around to trying Cacao. It was the first fragrance of hers that I’d ever heard of, and the one that led me to try so many of her others, but somehow I’ve never ordered a sample. LOVE Honey Blossom, tho’.
I like orange and chocolate
Honey Blossom is very nice, after having to fails with 2 of her samples I got.
Honey Blossom is very light on me, and feels like you have been rolling around in the hay with some honey added in. Does anyone else get grassy hay note in this?
Cuir de Gardina, Palimpset were both fails on me.
Anceint Resins was nice
I have a sample of the Chocolate Saffron body oil that I still have to try: ( Enabler Pin goes to Floragal)
Anything else you recommend?
I find the chocolate saffron body oil weirdly compelling, and I have a soft spot in my heart for it since I was wearing my sample of it the day my son was born. 🙂
And I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve been salivating over Vanilla Smoke.
I ordered Vanilla Smoke but the sample had leaked into the boxed and I haven’t gotten replacement yet.
I wished I had smelled as sweet during the births of my children!
Weirdly addictive is more like it for me.
More rain in Houston, heaven help us. I’m not messing around in the last of my sample of Miel de Bois. I have to try the new one before getting discouraged, but I love the original.
Yum yum yum. I am afraid to try the new one at all.
I’m going to try it when I go to LA in August. I’ll bring my own sample vial and report back.
Do report back. If it’s bad news, I’ll do my best to forget.
Also getting varying responses to it.
Sampling Prowl from Neil Morris. I like it as a floral from a distance but nose closer to skin it’s a bit more animalic so probably not work safe but I’ll enjoy it until I have to wash it off
SOTD started at 4am (!) with Vanille Sauvage de Madagascar by La Maison de la Vanille just so I could stand in line to get prime pick for a kayak from a local outdoor store here in town which was hosting a huge annual sale on kayaks, paddle boards, and dive gear. I was number three and smelling fine! They opened the doors at 930 and it was worth the early wakup and five hour wait because I got the exact kayak I wanted at a heavily discounted rate and they threw in the PFD and paddle free. Woo Hoo????
By the time I left, the crowd was smelling pretty ripe from standing out in the heat and humidity all morning. I had to make all kinds of adjustments to my roof rack, which was swarmed with ants in the parking lot. The vanilla is long gone and I’m drenched with sweat (and ants!) and headed for a shower. I see some Vetiver in my post shower future!
Hope you have a great weekend and the weather is kind to you????
Woohoo, and Yuck!
Exactly!
That is a very satisfying victory. Enjoy your new boat!
I will try my best, thank you ????
Congrats! I want to go back to bed just hearing about your morning.
I had a nice nap this afternoon ????
Congratulations on the kayak! Did you have T-Rex with you?
Thanks! Moratorium on perfume purchases for the rest of the year, but it’s worth it. T-Rex stayed in bed this morning while I did all the hard, sweaty work. I put her dinner bowl in the kayak this evening and after a little hesitation, she jumped right in and ate. No paddling this weekend, sadly, as there is a “disturbance” that may brew up into a tropical depression or storm, so we will be land lubbers the next couple of days.
Congrats! I’m sure you and T-Rex are going to have a lot of fun with that.
I hope so. I really need to stop watching shark videos taped by kayak fishermen, though…????
Uh, yeah….
Congratulations. Oh yes, Veitiver.
Vetiver is the answer to most all of life’s troubles ????
Well done! Isn’t scoring a huge discount satisfying?!
Yes, it is! I didn’t even know about the sale and rarely shop at this store because they NEVER have anything discounted. I just happened by there to try out a paddle board and kayak last week and the sales guy told me about the sale. It drew a huge crowd, everyone had to take a number, and the entire staff was in to deal with the masses. People camped out last year, but we had some evening and overnight storms, so the earliest person arrived around 2am this morning. She wanted a used demo SUP that was about 1/2 price, so she scored a great deal too. Thankfully everyone was polite and well mannered.
Nice! Love kayaks.
Yes, and so happy they threw in the paddle and PFD, because that was quite a savings as well. Plus, it’s pretty! Ombré lime green to white with a matching paddle! I will have to wear a very green perfume when I finally get it on the water????
Ahh, I can just see you paddling forth in a cloud of Corsica Furiosa! 😉
You read my mind????
Have a wonderful time, Deva, sounds like great fun.
SOTD is Quel Amour! and it fits the cherries pic, and my mood. A fresh, warm and happy scent, aromatic peony and soft pomegrenate. Not too sweet, not too sour.
Wish everyone a good weekend!
Hmm, based on that description, I find I would like to sniff Quel Amour! I couldn’t decide before…
If you can’t find it I am happy to send a sample. I find both the newest and older versions are lovely.
If I can’t manage to find it elsewhere, I’ll take you up on that kind offer!
Have a good weekend!
Sampling phoenicia by heeley. It’s very nice, also I think very appropriate for any circumstances.
What is it like?
To me, it is soft leather and probably the notes of dates, incense and vetiver combine into the impression of not sweet very good black tea. Other people smell these notes strongly on their own, I think they are somewhat understated. Strong incense irritates my nose; this is completely absent. Dates I tend to think of as sticky-sweet, here it’s either not sweet or, perhaps, just a tad. Vetiver I smell as understated. Oud I am not very familiar with, but it certainly does not remind me of any oud perfumes I tried. Overall, to me, it’s elegant, if somewhat soft-spoken. Also, people say it’s better for a man; I do not see it at all. Although I am known to wear and like some fragrances intended for men
Thank you Natalya, very helpful. It sounds like something I could like in winter.
A lemming just got born!
Yours or mine? ????
Like I said, it kind of requires liberal application for me. I can’t even offer you a sample, because I used it up in two wearings, which is very unusual for me. That combined with price significantly reduces my desire for a full bottle. On the other hand, I might have very personal nose insensitivities, I know I can’t smell iris, for example
Ours 🙂
Now sitting in Starbucks at my grocery store, answering on-call pages from the hospital. SOTD = La Fille de Berlin. 🙂
You smell fantastic!
Good Morning All! Working on a Saturday at my school today to make up a day we lost during the floods. Ugh! At least its quiet without the kids being here.
My SOTD is Slumberhouse’s Pear& Olive. I sprayed my last few sprays this morning. I would love to get another bottle. It’s so expensive to me. Does anybody know where I can find it at a discount price (full bottle)? If you do know, please share with me. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
I love pear and olive! You smell fabulous! Unfortunately, I don’t know where to get a bottle at a discount; if you get an answer, share with me 🙂
I doubt you can find any of Slumberhouse at a discount 🙁
Well, I found 95% full bottle of Ore on eBay at a discount 🙂
I know Twisted Lily carries Pear + Olive, and sometimes they have 20% off sales.
Okay. Thanks for that tip. I will keep an eye out on their site!
Just went to their site and saw that they had $30 off the order of $150 until May 30th- bummer!
Those usually exclude some brands – Slumberhouse is one of them (learnt the hard way)
Double bummer 🙁
I’ve only seen the 20% off coupons at Parfum1, not Twisted Lily. I have seen the discounts that Natalya mentions though (get $ off a purchase of $).
Thanks everyone! I know that perfumes like that rarely get marked down. Just thought that since it was discontinued, it might be on sale. ????
Oh, it is being discontinued? I better grab me some now!
Back from the UK. I’d bought a bottle of Ivoire edp at TK Maxx and a 1/3 full fan-shaped bottle of Avon Persian Wood in a second-hand shop, and thought myself the very model of restraint — but then I had a couple of hours before my flight home and went crazy in the duty-free. Now I have a bottle of JM Velvet Rose and Oud, JM roses bath oil and some No. 19 bath gel. Feeling dazed and broke, but definitely caught up on perfume shopping…
I love the No. 19 bath gel!
Love the JM Velvet Rose and Oud and roses bath oil, great picks!
Fun, enjoy the results of your spree!
Jacomo Silences for me this fine Saturday morning. I never ever think to wear this and I only thought to wear it as a last chance before the chopping block. I’m absolutely loving it today but in general when I feel like this I reach for Chanel 19.
What to do, keep it in purgatory or just let it go?
#perfumistaproblems
Put a sticky with a date on it, your choice — 3 months, 6 months? Then forget about it, and if you don’t reach for it by that date, out it goes.
That is a most excellent idea!
I had a bottle of something I never reached for so I swapped it, but kept a small decant for myself which I didn’t reach for either so off that went as well. And it was something I liked when I smelled it. Tough decision when it’s actually something you like. Robin’s idea is great. I did that with clothing-not-worn-in-a-year had to exit the premises.
Yesterday, I was at Nordstrom and took a little stroll by fragrance. My thought process: “Hm, I don’t have many summer-appropriate scents I really love. I should look at…Oooh, Opium! I haven’t tried that one yet!” The lovely SA said, “That’s really not a summer scent.” I know, I know. I still sprayed some on and really enjoyed it; I’ll have to put some in the rotation when it’s cooler. Meanwhile, I’m planning on applying some Ninfeo Mio shortly (which is one of the summer scents I really love).
Years ago they did some “summer” flankers to Opium. I have the Orchidee de Chine and it’s still a powerhouse
Love NM! You smell great. I have some 90’s era Opium and its a humdinger!
I just can’t fathom what SAs are thinking when they say stuff like that! “I am interesting in purchasing this thing you have for sale!” “That’s a terrible idea.” …
Hello all, another hot day in my area today.
I grabbed some Le Galion Cologne in the morning and I have to admit that it perfectly managed to keep me going through the date and I felt more refreshed rather than overwhelmed by the temperature and humidity.
Le Galion Cologne sounds so refreshing.
I’m having a lazy-ish Saturday which started with weeding samples and decants for the freebie meet. Then a few errands, some more organizing at home, potting some new zinnias and black petunias, and dinner out later.
Got my Twisted Lily sample order today and I’m trying Gri Gri Moko Maori since I read Angela’s review. So far it’s a dry grassy, hay, and mossy affair with something leathery. which is making it a bit sharp ATM. Maybe a hint of honeyed sweetness but not sweet in the least. It’s nice and earthy and so far I’m enjoying it. I should’ve ordered the others but I was most curious about this one.
That’s your lazy-ish Saturday? Gosh, I feel really lazy now 🙁
Ha! I guess it doesn’t read that way. I’m moving at a snail’s pace though.
LOL — yeah, me too. Elisa, I need to give you some lazy lessons.
Ok, so here’s the real deal:
Errands were around the corner and took 15 minutes tops and then I sat and had coffee.
I only made it to bringing the flower pot and soil out into the yard.
I did do some laundry and unload the dishwasher.
And I read comments and checked the freebie meet postings at intervals.
But that’s it!! I swear! Can I have my lazy pin back now, please?
Ok, but I can still beat you 😉
And the Gri Gri went all Pine-Sol on me 🙁
I almost ordered those samples too but figured that someone else here would test some of them and report back. Thanks Elisa for taking one for the team! ????
Glad to help out Petunia???? I think it’ll have fans. I’m not into piney scents, personally. I’d still like to try the other 2 but I’ll wait to test them in person.
Good idea!
Interesting name
Trying out SSS Jour Ensoleillé today, and so far am enjoying much more than my earlier (aborted) attempt to wear it. It’s much warmer today, perhaps that’s helping JE out? Anyway, none of that rotten banana impression I was getting. I’m probably going to be outdoors much of today, and I’m interested to see how this plays.
I’m didn’t get rotten bananas exactly, but there is a sense of flowers on the verge of rotting that I get. I actually like that about it.
I also get the impression of flowers-on-the-brink, and I really like it! But rotting food is too viscerally unpleasant. Actually, I find food smells cloying if they stick around too long, even perfectly fresh food smells. This has made finding my ideal gardenia kind of difficult.
Hmmm, I’ll have to try this again to see if I get the edge of rotting. I love this scent so to me you smell wonderful. I will likely do a FB but am not in a hurry.
Yes, I think I smell pretty wonderful too!
Hmmm…. I get that from AG’s Songes as well, i.e. rotten bananas . I attribute it to the Tiare flower ?
I occasionally get a banana-ish funk from some tuberose scents. Has that happened to you?
Does anyone know if L’Artisan’s L’eau de Jatamansi (2007) and their Jatamansi (2015) are the same fragrance/formulation?
I have the 2007 and like it a lot. Have not smelled 2015. Happy to send a 07 sample if that helps.
Thank you for your lovely offer but I have a decant of the 2007 and love it. I’m thinking about buying a full bottle of 2015 if it is the same.
I showered today with Orange Sanguine gel and then put on the Absolue. I think I smell rather mouth-wateringly good.
You do smell wonderful. Have you tried the Cedrat Enivrant shower gel?
No–I have the Absolue but not the shower gel. Is it wonderful?
The shower gel is wonderful – true to the perfume!
They do a really good job that way.
Feeling unmotivated to do any work today but report card deadlines are up next week, so are abstracts for conference papers. Everything seems to hit you all at once, like an avalanche of sorts.
Sampling a “cool” scent today: Smell Bent’s “The Yard Next Door.” Picking up some damp, earthy, grassy notes but this novice nose of mine cannot identify the rooty powdery aspect of it. Any ideas?
Lastly, do iris and violet share similar compounds? I sniffed a couple of scents featuring both blooms in the past and am not sure if its the former or latter I was intrigued by…
Off to the library to avoid distractions and divertissements of all kinds!
Like Nick alerted me on this site, yes – ionones! That is why likely I almost can’t smell either! Look up iPhones in perfume, I’ve read a very nice shirt article about them, but I did not save the address
Ionones, not iPhones 🙂
hahahaha 😀
It looks like I am a fan of ionones and iPhones. I looked up the former on wiki and also found this
http://colognoisseur.com/olfactory-chemistry-ionones-irones-and-methyl-ionones-purple-rain/
and this
http://boisdejasmin.com/2005/11/ionones-violet-methyl-ionone-powdery-perfume-materials.html
Also this: gizmodo.com/5913813/the-secret-to-how-violets-steal-your-sense
I am guessing for me, perhaps certain ionones shut off my sense of smell for longer periods of time, or something of the sort
I never noticed the smell stealing property of Violet’s ever before: will have to test it out .
This is the first time I’ve seen/noticed your username, and may I just say, it fully describes my life.
Re: Koyel:
I literally need to be locked up in an ivory tower to focus!
Read your post about the antiques market at the Jardin des plantes and can’t help but feel nostalgic. I lived next to the Pantheon at the ENS residences a few years ago and used to walk to the gardens. My one regret is not having stopped by the mosque for tea.
ME TOO!!!! On rue d’Ulm?!
Exactement! Rue d’Ulm! The communal showers were disgusting : I made sure my skin never made contact with any surface. The best part about the location was the proximity to the Luxembourg gardens and rue Mouffetard where I picked up my rotisserie chicken . No AC in the room; attacked by mosquitos during the summer. There in 2010, you?
I was there all school year from 2009 – 2010!!! I wonder if we overlapped, and if so, if we might’ve crossed paths 🙂 Yes, I always wore flip flops to the shower. I also spent as little time in the kitchen as possible, aided, as you say, by the shops on rue Mouffetard! What were you there to do?
Our paths must have crossed because I arrived in January of 2010. Studied art history : visiting scholar for a year . Once someone took our my laundry before it was dry: I took a bucket of water and poured it over their clothes in the dryer! Food frequently stolen from the communal fridge so I hung stuff from my winter during the cooler weeks. Left a nasty note on the fridge . What did you specialize in?
Oh wow! Hahaha. I have never done that 🙂 I wonder if we were on the same floor! I am not sure which floor I was on, but it was somewhere around the second or third floor. Are you French, or visiting from abroad? (I ask because you wrote “divertissements” higher up.) I was doing chemistry. It was the best commute I’ve ever had: a three-minute walk to lab 🙂
Hung stuff from my window.
I was on the floor where the first set of showers was. A Canadian studying at the U of Edinburgh, visiting the ENS. If you are going to tell me that you are a Canadian too or studied at my university , we must share some kind of twinship!????
Nah, it ends there 🙂 Although I was also on a floor with showers (I didn’t realize there weren’t showers on every floor!), so it’s not impossible that we were on the same floor! Nope, I’m American and was just doing a post-bac Fulbright at ENS (so I wasn’t affiliated with another university at the time). But what a lovely twinship to uncover here on NST! Based exclusively on your username.
I’m re-trying a few Serges that I haven’t sniffed in some time — Sa Majeste la Rose last night, Fleurs du Citronnier today. The last time I tried these, a few years ago, I recall finding F du C heavenly, and Sa Majeste completely pleasant but not quite compelling, given the large number of roses already in my collection. Now I’m finding F du C to be too soapy and rather underwhelming, and Sa Majeste nothing short of sublime. Do I need another rose? NO. And yet… YES!
I like FdC, but admit it does not shine like the other florals in the line. Sa Majeste -> totally agree.
Sa Majestie is wonderful!
Question floating around my brain– do scents smell different with a tan?
I bet they do, because skin usually gets more dry when being tan or sunburnt. I think that would make some sort of difference.
Today I’m test-driving a decant of Rose Ikebana (Hermes newbie here) and I am very much enjoying it. I’ve seen the comparisons to Kelly Caleche (on this blog and others), so I was wondering if anyone could tell me–if I like Rose Ikebana, is it likely that I would also like Kelly Caleche? I’m quite tempted to blind buy the latter. Thanks so much for any advice you can lend.
I think you would like Kelly Caleche if you like Rose Ikebana. To me, they are quite similar in spirit but Kelly Caleche has a little more heft to it with the addition of a touch of leather.
This helps so much. Thank you. I think I would like a little more heft, actually. And the idea of rose and leather is alluring to me. I’m forever chasing after lovely leather notes since the long-ago discontinuation of my favorite Kors Michael Kors. Thanks again!
If you can make it to a Sephora, you can try the Kelly Caleche. I like the EDP and I like the parfum even more so.
Thank you! I wasn’t aware there were testers of Kelly Caleche at Sephora (I guess I’m always so distracted by other things when I’m in there). There’s an auction I’m eyeing that’s ending soon, so I think I might just take the leap!
Agree with this. I like the parfum more than the edp or edt, and I prefer the edp to the edt (to me, the edt seems more herbal or green, with less rounded warmth than the others). Love RI.
that said, if you love RI, I would recommend YSL In Love Again as the less formal younger sister to RI.
I do adorable KC parfum though and reach for it more than the other 2 combined.
Thanks! I took the plunge and bought KC edp yesterday for a great price. And thank you for the YSL In Love Again tip. When that first came out, there was an Yves Rocher fragrance (one of their Folies de Saisons scents) that was quite similar so I ended up with that. I never would have made that connection and I wish I still had my bottle of the YR (sadly, it turned a few years ago) to compare.
Love Kelly Caleche. Don’t own it but will at some point. I happen to like the EdT but I know others like the EdP. Leap of faith!
Thank you! I indeed took a leap of faith and got the edp yesterday. Fingers crossed!
Meh…I love RI but am not that enthusiastic about KC. It is perhaps too late though. If you ended up buying it, I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you! I did end up getting the edp yesterday. If anything, I’m now extremely curious to compare them myself!
Ah, and I am underwhelmed by RI but really enjoy KC edp. Don’t like the edt at all. (Guess I’m the weird one. 🙂 )
Petite Cherie for me…sample from the Annick Goutal bag. Pleasant enough, but not grabbing me. I think I was in the mood for greener…
SOTD = Prada Purple Rain, a very light application since I want to do a gourmandish layering experiment later.
R.I.P. Muhammad Ali – I have a fond memory of going with my dad and brother to one of his sparring bouts before a heavyweight championship fight. It wasn’t very kid appropriate but I think my dad realized it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and somehow managed to obtain tickets.
Kudos to your dad!
Thanks! He was the friendly sort and knew someone in professional sports and this guy was probably the ticket connection.
Oh wow that you got to see him fight! What a great memory. RIP indeed. They showed a 60 Minutes segment with him playing a practical joke in the reporter. He had a wicked sense if humor.
I’m glued to the coverage!
To answer your question from yesterday…..I like all of the Dame Perfumery’s offerings and I love several…for a newbie perfumista? That is kind of tricky without knowing the notes he/she likes…I will say that all the Dame’s are pretty versatile and office friendly with the exception of some from the soliflore collection ( I love Narcissus, Mimosa, Tuberose, Gardenia but I am not sure someone new to perfume would appreciate them). I would try New Musk for Man, Citrus Man, Passionfruit, Orange Flower & Vetiver and Black Flower Mexican Vanilla….bear in mind that to me the entire collection can be worn by a man or woman …case in point a very petite and feminine woman smells great in all of the Dame scents geared towards men and my dad has multiple full bottles of the womens scents…
I would suggest she do the postcard thing…you send Jeff a post card listing the name of the sample you would like to try…not only does he send you the sample but he sends you multiple samples as he is a very generous guy 🙂
Also, she can try a travel spray…$8.50 for one and free shipping and loads of samples for free…
Let me know how it goes 🙂 !!
Thanks for the info…sending the postcard is a great idea. I think we’ll do a sniffatour of Saks so I can get some clue of her preferences and go from there!
That is so cool of your dad.
:-)….and the cooler part was he allowed us to play hooky 🙂
Holy cow, you got to see Ali?! Wow!
Just chiming in on Dame: I would recommend Desert Rose. On me it smells surprisingly similar to La Fille de Berlin, just a bit lighter/fruitier and a bit less spicy–so, perhaps, a more accessible/wearable version of an accessible niche scent.
It was a long time ago but yes, it was special!
Thanks also for the Desert Rose recommendation!
What a great thing to have been able to do. My mom was a big Ali fan, oddly enough. He was such a big presence when I was growing up.
My dad really was not into spectator sports so it was a surprise that he even thought to go to something that was sure to be a madhouse. While I don’t remember much about the sparring, I remembered the throngs of people and a palpable excitement in the air.
Now that’s a cool dad. What a special memory for you.
I can see my father doing something similar. He enjoyed exposing us to new things and unique opportunities.
A single drop of Fumérie Turque. Even so carefully applied, a bit nauseating for a bus trip up the hills. Dreaming of a good, crisp cologne after this and yesterday’s acidental bath in Noontide Petals, which traumatized me about the tauerade for the next five years.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Back at ya!
oh, I love Noontide Petals but I can still appreciate that bathing in it might be a bit much!
Yes, it is potent!
Poivre 23 today for me. At the tech fair with my son, watching all the little kids building robots, zooming around etc – I feel so last century!!!
I was at my son’s (the 7th grader) Migration story night on Wed–think history fair like a science fair– and most of the entries were websites so about 5 dozen laptops were set up on tables in the gym for folks to log onto the kids’ websites…!
SOTD is Victoria’s Secret Heavenly Summer body spray–refreshing bergamot and orris–because it’s gonna be a scorcher today. The expected high is 110-112, depending on the source. It was late hitting 100 this year, but we’re making up for it now!
I’m not a boxing fan, but I am really sad about Muhammad Ali’s passing. He was a champion athlete and a champion human being, one in several-million.
112! Remind me where you live?
Tucson. Thankfully, because it’s a bit higher and thus a few degrees cooler than Phoenix, Yuma, Lake Havasu, etc. (Plus, it’s prettier ????)
Somehow I missed that AZ is going through a huge heat spell. Hang in there!
The official high yesterday was 111, but there’s a Weather Underground station right near me, so I know the actual high at my house was 113.5. Crispy.
Crispy!
Ditto on both topics. Ungodly hot here with sky high humidity- ugh!
My family was not into boxing either but we all liked Ali. He always had such a sparkle in his eye during interviews, etc. Hope his passing was peaceful and pain-free.
Sorry about the humidity–that’s rough! It’s so dry here (eg, a whopping 5% yesterday!) that it’s a complete shock when I visit somewhere with normal humidity. It’s like, “Why is the air trying to drown me?!?”
THIS. Dry air is one of the things I miss the most about the Southwest. It’s kind of hard to explain to people who haven’t experienced it.
Cleaning my house at a snail’s pace today. So far I’ve worn Black Jade and now Flora Nymphea. I have no idea what I’m in the mood for today.
That’s exactly how one SHOULD clean house- slowly or better yet, avoid it altogether. The most important thing is you smell great, I’m sure. ????
Thanks Deva. I’m having one of those days. ????
Just noticed that you updated your avatar. Too cute. T-Rex is all grown up.
Yes, really starting to fill out and gain muscle mass, but still has all the sass of a 12 week old puppy. She never met a stranger, everyone is her bestie. She has wonderful temperament and would have a blast with your avatar ????
I’m wearing Azzedine Alaia today. My son’s wedding is exactly one week from today. I’ve been playing with my hair today and trying some hairstyles to see what looks best with my dress, which is charcoal grey with silver beading.
I also have going through my head “what perfume should I wear??”.
I think I have it narrowed down to Czech & Speake Dark Rose, EL Private Collection, Chanel Cuir de Russie or Marni. Or I could just go all the way and wear Shalimar. Or, I could wear Alaia because its smelling so good on me right now.
Oh! How would you, personally, describe Alaïa? I’ve decided I need to try it and am contemplating a blind buy from a discounter.
Congrats to your son! Your dress sounds lovely. …You know, weather-appropriateness permitting, I would think the Alaïa would be a great choice that few other people would be wearing.
Creosote, Have you sampled Alaia? I can send you some to try before committing to a bottle. One of the main notes is mountain air. I guess the scent is pretty much representative of that. It’s a soft scent, quite pretty. A friend gave it to me as a gift.
Wow, mountain air? That’s really interesting! That sounds incredibly rejuvenating.
Ooh, thanks–yes please! I haven’t sampled it, so it would be helpful to know for sure.
Hi Creosote, Just saw your response. Email your address to me at llombardi underscore 4 2 where the mail is hot and I’ll pop it into the mail this week.
How exciting Barqs! You’ve been anticipating you son’s wedding for some time now. Your dress sounds lovely. IMO, you should wear the scent that feels the most comfortable. Such a happy occassion but still a long day. Whatever you pick, I’m sure will be just right.
This is one of the best designer launches! You smell so good with the hot-pavement peppers, faint leather, light florals, and musks.
Wow, spot on description! Perfect!
What a lovely occasion for which to dress! I have no suggestions – but I’m sure you’ll make the right choice and have a lovely scent memory in the future!
Was in En Passant but can no longer detect it. I have some Amouage samples I have been scared to try. The last one left me bereft when it was gone and went straight to the near top of my wish list. So here goes nothing… I’m looking at you Journey.
I have samples of Beloved and Jubilation XXV eyeing me from the bathroom counter, and I’m scared of them, too. I just cannot afford to fall in love with more than one Amouage, at least until I use up my entire bottle of Lyric!
Ha! Jubilation XXV is also among my samples. I loved it, but because it is a genre well represented in my perfume collection I didn’t get heartbreak. But Beloved, on the other hand…. She’s a real beaut!
Journey is sort of peach and leather and flowers. Super pretty!
I tested Beloved and bought a full bottle from a discounter the next day. I was very sure that I loved it. It doesn’t happen for me very often to have the instantaneous “I Must Have This” total love feeling. I still love it and do not regret my purchase.
You can always sell/swap a part of your Lyric 🙂
“Not to enable or anything” (and WE always use this standard line)…Fragrancenet has the travel spray set which I think comes with three 10 mL refills for < $100 with a 30% off coupon and free shipping within the U.S. . The only weird thing is that the picture is that of an Annick Goutal perfume.
Ahhh. Jubilation XXV. If it had been Beloved, I might have taken the bait 😉 !!
I did see a bottle of Beloved on there very recently for a reasonable price-like one thirty-ish if I recall correctly.
Yeah…as clarissa says, many people (including me, obviously) would be thrilled to take some Lyric off your hands 🙂 Amouage is so pricy that it is hard to justify purchases, it’s true.
Hi Koyel,
As long as you are in the continental US, I’ll make you a decant of Lyric. See my email address under the Freebie meet and email me your coordinates.
AKA Sisterhood of the Traveling Perfumes
Not to enable or anything but have you considered the travel spray? Still a big splurge but less so than a FB. Journey is so gorgeous!
The initial scent worried me. I got highway rest stop cleaner for about five or even 10 minutes…something about the fruit and leather not quite jiving. But once things calmed down it has become really beautiful. I get lots of stone fruit and flowers while my hubby got mostly leather when I asked him.
It never stops to amaze me how different noses (skin? climate?) are! I get mostly honey, mimosa, saffron, jasmine tea, and a tiny bit of oud…and the whole scent is hawthorny to me…I think it may be my second most loved fragrance (today that is…). Heure Exquise being number one.
I love Journey!
Beautiful weather in the West of Ireland, far better than anything Paris has had to offer over the past 3 weeks. My brother drove down from Dublin and we went to the beach. Then onwards to Galway town, where the streets were bustling with bars and cafes and street performers. I popped in to Cloon Keen Atelier and bought a FB of “Tulum” and a couple of scented candles (“Figuier” and “Old Library”, or something like that )
SOTD is Ys-Usac “Pohadka”, which on me has a prominent leather note so I don’t like it.
I love that even though the website says “Fig Tree” for the candle fragrance, you called it “Figuier.” Either the product is different in store than it is on the website, or you’ve been in France too long 🙂
Ha ha, well, I remembered the right concept if not the right name! :^D
I actually do the same thing. There was this (mediocre) French restaurant in Silicon Valley that was called Left Bank that I consistently called Rive Gauche by accident.
Ahhh. Jealous. I got engaged in Dublin while on vacation. I still say that vacation in Ireland had some of the best food I ever had. Everything was fresh and the seafood was great. We had Indonesian two nights in a row in Temple Bar. I have yet to find Indonesian food in NYC…
Today was an absolutely lovely day–sunny, with a high of 75 °F. I strolled through the Jardin des Plantes and the Grand Rond, and turned off onto a grassy allée, where I came across the monthly antiques market. Many people have mentioned finding lovely vintage bottles at antiques markets, so I thought I’d walk through it, take a look. I passed some dirty, scary-looking bottles, a bit sad not to have found anything but happy not to be spending more money.
Then I found a stand that had hundreds of teeny little vintage minis!!!!! This of course was my downfall. They were individually so cheap that I ended up with a rather giant handful. Together, they were not quite as cheap, and now I am no longer permitted to buy any more perfume for the next few months 🙁 BUT I am now the proud owner of all kinds of exciting new scents, like Lanvin Arpège and Balmain Vent Vert and a bunch of old Chanels. Time to try them out to my little heart’s content. I have too much perfume, you guys. (Though you’re the wrong people to say this to.)
Robin, I think you had suggested at the last freebie meet that you were thinking of taking off the dibs limit on the last day of the meet. Is that going into effect this round?
This is very exciting! I am happy for you. I rarely see perfume at the antique stores here. The last bottle I saw was a Gwen Stephani something. Btw, I also have to much perfume.
How fun! Enjoy!
That sounds like my day – unexpected fun, but a tad expensive! :^)
ditto!
Sounds like a fun day!
Great finds! I never come across stuff that way. Enjoy ????
I love vintage minis. 🙂
Hi, everyone. I’m having a bit of a bad start to the day: the dear one has a putrid bug of some kind and is utterly miserable. I’m striving not to be a ministering angel, because he HATES that, so he’s grumpy ‘cos sick and I’m grumpy ‘cos frustrated, and we’re both convinced that the other is handling this badly! I’m off to douse myself in something calming and gentle, and if I can’t find calming and gentle in my collection, I might just go and buy some….but I did. It’s not a winter perfume–but why shouldn’t it be, if that’s how I need it?: Apres l’Ondee. Hope you all have a MUCH better weekend than I am!
Oh no. I hope he feels better soon. Men are not always the best patients. ????
Mmmm…”not the best patient” in his case means , “Although the doctor advises ????, I know better, and the general laws that work for every other human on the planet are suspended when it comes to ME!” Now, I absolutely know he’s not being sensible, but he’s determined to go through being sick on his terms, so, though it pains me that he isn’t taking the doctor’s prescription (Tastes revolting!”), isn’t staying in bed (“It’s too hot and I’m bored!” ) and won’t drink more fluids, etc, etc, I’m leaving him to it. But, I have to say, I’m wondering when this five year old took over my husband’s brain!
????
I’m having visions of Kathy Bates and a sledgehammer …????
HAHAHA! I’m your biggest fan….
oh boy!
Depending on his temperament (and yours), tell him if he doesn’t behave himself you won’t wear your Carry On Nurse uniform, or that if he doesn’t behave himself you *will* wear your Carry On Nurse uniform.
I should say, my partner makes a poor patient whereas I am delighted to have someone look after me when I’ll.
Or when ill, even…
Ha! ????
A nurse’s uniform? With a little frilly hat thingy and a starched white apron? Oooh! You have opens up whole gardens of possibilities, Koenigsberg….but you see, he now thinks he might do some painting in the bedroom. He won’t, of course: he’ll get out drop cloths and ladders and paint and paraphernalia, make a huge muddle, then go and lie down! So, instead of nubile nursey , right now, I fancy a thermometer, a cantilevered bosom (think Mrs Slocombe, and I am unanimous in that!) and a grim expression….sadly, I think I’m more school Matron ticking off fourth form boys for their midnight feasts and whizzo larks!
I hope he feels better soon for both your sakes!
Wearing Tauer Phi today, which should not work in excessive humidity, yet somehow does….
I put away PHI for the summer. You make it sound tempting.
I think it works too, but it needs to be a very judicious spritz ????
Yes agree.
In the 80s my now husband and I worked in a restaurant on the south side of Chicago. Ali would come in from time to time and it was very moving to see him. If someone asked for an autograph he would give them a pamphlet about Islam that he’s signed. We still have ours!
Wearing Tobacco Rose today, which I think works in any but perhaps the hottest of weathers. What do people think are the best summer roses?
That is a great story. And now I have the song “Leroy Brown” stuck in my head….
I’d bet that Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s roses work great in hot weather.
Yes that is a very nice one. A little pinker than I normally go for, but very pretty!
I have a couple. Lumiere Noire (pour femme) is not AS pink–well not as pink as A La Rose. Would be happy to send you a decant if you haven’t tried it!
Oh that is so nice of you, but I think I have one tucked away somewhere. Must now find!
Thanks for posting that story!
Your welcome! To use an inappropriate phrase, you could just tell that he was a real mensch.
Nice! I saw him from afar surrounded by hype and I still felt a connection!
I should say my husband still has his. I was too shy to approach him. Your dad sounds great to have taken you!
If I was not a tomboy back then, I may have missed out on this!
Great story! I bet that autograph is valuable. I’m in Ann Getard Rose cut at the moment. It seems fine in the heat. It’s a bit pink up top, but the drydown has some honeyed heft without being heavy.
Thank you for the Ali story.
Is Tobacco Rose your favourite summer rose? After a long no rose phase I am beginning to come round with baby steps roses, Eau Rose and Quel Amour.
It’s hard for me to pick favorites! I love Tobacco Rose because it always smells a little different to me, sometimes more tangy, others more green, and sometimes the smell of tobacco leaf, even though there is none in there. For summer rose I really like Rose d’Ecume, which I’m wearing right now, Kashan Rose, which is very simple but not too pink, Sa Majestie, which someone mentioned above, and, if I have a set tooth and it isn’t too hot, Isparta. That’s today at least. ????
Thanks Amy, some sniffing material!
Thanks for sharing your Mohammed Ali memory. I saw him on a tv show (60 minutes?) years ago and he moved me so much I started weeping. Same thing happens every time I see dolphins.
I think JM Red Roses is beautiful for summer.
Love this story as well. What a neat memory. So many stories out on him and its just fascinating reading about his life and him as a person. He had quite a gift with words.
Wearing Dolce Patchouly from i Profumi de Firenze. Not really a light summer scent, but one that I love. And hey, if you love it, wear it, right?
Right.
Hot and sunny today, it was perfect for Ylang 49. Then I went to a yard sale and found a small bottle of Outremer Vanille with its sticker of $22 CAD from Anthropologie on it for $4, full and fresh, so now I am wearing that. 🙂
Congrats on the find!
Score! That sounds really nice ????
Great find!
I also love Ylang49
I’m wearing Should Have Known Better from Smell Bent’s new Pop Mantra collection. It is interesting, but not floral as described. More minty and ozone.
Such a great name, whatever it is!
Does anybody know if Ore by slumberhouse underwent any reformulation? I bought a bottle on ebay, and it smells a bit different than my sample. Although I like it even better, it’s a bit “dirty”
All the “old” Slumberhouses were reformulated about the time the new bottles (without the marbles) were released. There are a number of threads on Basenotes about the reformulations.
Well, my bottle is a new version, but I don’t know what year is my sample. I could not find the description how reformulation changed the perfume, so I don’t know if my sample has gone a bit off? Anyway, like I said, I like the bottle version even better than sample!
The only thing that counts is that you like it!
Wearing LADDM, which I haven’t done in too long. Hopefully it will suit the heat and work that’s facing me later.
You smell fantastic!
SOTD: Burberry Brit Rhythm for her. A lovely lovely lavender, The dry down has woods and a little sprig of dill in there, one of the best lavenders in any perfume in my opinion. There’s a 30ml unopened bottle of BBR for her in my freebie meet list, still unclaimed if anyone wants it.
SOTD is Jour d’Hermes, because it was the only thing I could stand the thought of spraying on in the heat we’re having in Portland today (holy melting asphalt indeed). But wanted to share my Leap of Faith from yesterday, because I couldn’t do it until evening and by then it was really too late to post on yesterday’s thread. I thought I was going to try an unmarked sample from Imaginary Authors, but my bottle of YSL Cinema (ordered completely blind, based on the BdJ review) arrived in yesterday’s mail, and I couldn’t resist. I love it! Mimosa and amber. I need to do an arm-to-arm comparison against Alahiiiiine because I think they’re at least cousins, with A being perhaps more complex and slightly dirty, and C having a tad more vanilla and fewer flowers … but I won’t know for sure until I try them side by side.
Ohhhh, I like the sound of both of those…
Me too!
Late to the party. I am wearing no 19 in edt form.
And you smell fabulous. 🙂
You’re not late! There’s one more day in the lazy weekend. Chanel 19 edt is my absolute favorite. You smell gorgeous!
Sunday SOTD: the ambient smell in our house. Downstairs neighbor is baking chocolate chip cookies and the aroma of melting chocolate, heated walnuts, butter and all the rest of it is filtering up through our floor.
I think the great perfume reduction project is taking a different turn. I put some things out for the freebie meet, but decided to only list smaller items because the larger bottles are just too expensive for me to ship en masse. A Facebook Fragrance Friends friend only bought one item, so I may just resort to evil bay to at least recoup the shipping costs. Meanwhile my SIL is interested in seeing if she wants something, so that’s another way to offload. I gave three bottles to my good friend who it turns out loves gardenia, a bunch of stuff to her nephew (and the people in his immediate environment) who was going a little too crazy with the Axe, and a bottle of Gris Clair, the perfect lavender a la Quentin Crisp, to my brother in law.
And the fact remains that there are still a lot of perfumes in my modest collection that I find newly intriguing and worth keeping. Maybe this is a stage in the evolution of the perfumista where she finally understands and appreciates what she’s got! Anyway it’s till quite a bit more than the 7 bottles, but reducing a little at a time.
Kudos to you for downsizing! I am in the same mode at the moment and was able to delete 4 fragrances from my “collection” at the freebiemeet yesterday. I feel lighter already! I wish I had friends, relatives, and/or coworkers who were interested as it would be much more convenient.
Thank you Deva! I knew that I would not be judged here for not sticking to my original austerity plan.
You’re wonderful to share the fragrance love with the people around you and with NSTers. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to lighten your load even more, you might think about leaving an anonymous little box of samples or even a full bottle of fragrance in a restroom/lounge somewhere out in the big, wild world with a note that says “I smell great, try me!”
Finding such a package in a public restroom would freak me out 🙂 Terrorists for one thing, and Alice’s “Drink me!” bottle for another 🙂
I like where your suggestion and can also empathize with what Natalya posted. A compromise might be to leave a freebie box where people know me with a note telling them it’s from me.
It is a process, isn’t it?
I went over my collection, and discovered the following census, after preparing a large Freebie box!
Bottles, 50 ml and larger – 11
Bottles, 15 ml to 45 ml – 9
Travel sprays and 8-15 ml decants – 11
5 ml decants and manufacturers minis – 17
3 ml or smaller samples – 42
Current Bottles to Buy: 4
Current Decants to Buy: 3
Current samples to acquire or at least sniff: 3
This accounting quelled my guilt, and I give myself permission to get all the full bottles on my list! 🙂
Good for you for doing an inventory! It’s very similar to the size of my collection which is now fairly modest. I guess there is a lot to be said for winnowing it down to just the most loved perfumes. I was wearing Salome tonight and my husband said its in the top 5 of what he likes on me. When I asked why, he said its half attractive and half repellant and reminds him of a beer soaked wooden floor near the washrooms in an old bar. It’s very authentic and kind of dirty.
Sunday afternoon and I’m in Dublin airport about to fly back to Paris. No last minute rush this time, thank goodness. SOTD was Parfümerie Générale “Yuzu ab Irato”. Nasty sour citrus whose only saving grace was the usual poor lasting power of that marque. I was compelled to get a FB of Chanel “Sycomore” in Duty Free and am currently wearing it layered with Coromandel (on one wrist only). SA made a good case for buying both, but after yesterday’s spendathon at Cloon Keen Atelier I wasn’t in the mood for another big ticket day. :^)
Oops I responded to deva instead of you! I had a pricey weekend too!
Preparing for some stormy weather here due to TD #3. Tampa Bay is quite choppy and I’m celebrating the fact I’m NOT in a kayak right now by wearing Hermés Veriver Tonka. BTW, those cherries look divine! Cheers????
I hear you. I had a big ticket weekend too, with a good friend and cousin from out of town drawing me out to Chanel and Hermes and Barneys and other places I should not be on a Saturday. I bought 28 La Pausa and 32 Rue Cambon, and the new Rhubarbe Eclarante. The latter is slightly silly, but fun and not wallet-bustingly expensive. Coromandel is lovely and I’m dying to go perfume shopping in Dublin some day.
Well, DUB duty free claimed to have the exclusifs cheaper than anywhere else in Europe, but we’re talking maybe £5 cheaper than BHX so not a bargain worth flying in for. Earlier in the year I took a friend perfume shopping in Brown Thomas in Dublin City centre – that was also expensive fun. :^)
I just want to go to Dublin.
Oof 31 and I always get the Rhubarbe name wrong!
Sorry I meant that for Koenigsberg!
Another hot hot hot day here today, and I’m in Le Galion Iris and a crisp white shirt this morning. There’s something about LGI that pairs well with the freshly ironed feel of crisp cotton. I feel calm and serene. 🙂
Back home from the West Point/Yale trip absolutely exHAUSted. SOTD has been Chanel 1932, which despite the perfumista chorus of “Meh,” I really like. It’s lasted several hours on me, the last part reminding me of 31 RC. (Should note here that I layered a dab of parfum with two small spritzes of edt.)
And now that church and the bridal shower are over, I’m going to take a nap!
Congratulations on surviving!
Chanel 1932 smells good to me, just not very much, and it lasts about 20 minutes on my skin, so tmihere’s just no point for me. If they came out with “1932 Intense” or “1932 Extreme” I would be happy.
A lot of people have a longevity problem with 1932, and I was beyond surprised to find that it actually does last on my scent-eating skin. The parfum+edt (I have small amounts of both) seems to work well. There aren’t a lot of fragrances I’d bother doing that for, though, so I understand your point.
Scent of the sudden squall: Cuir de Lancime, which was a leap of faith for me an eBay blind buy. Nice, this rainy evening…
Happy Sunday to all in The Other Hemisphere and a great Monday to all of us down here! So, the dear man continues to cough and splutter and groan and moan, but with great courtesy and consideration, he relocated himself to the spare room for the night, so I slept somewhat. Today, he has added a fever to his other suffering, so he is definitely being thorough about working with this germ. I am biting my tongue on all my helpful suggestions and am bracing myself with the cheerful creamy woodiness of Fancy Nights, which gives me a degree of pleasure quite out of proportion to its modest price. It’s light-hearted and a lot of fun, not impossibly sweet, and it has an unexpected degree of self-possession. Not at all bad for $30, or whatever I paid!
Hope he feels better soon so you can recover.
