Friday, at last, and if you're in the US, almost Memorial Day weekend. I'm sure some of you are starting early.
Our community project for today: wear a fragrance by Alberto Morillas, if you have one. What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing Le Labo Tubereuse 40. What little I have is almost gone. If I could afford it, I'd buy more.
Reminder: 6/3 will be Leap of Faith Friday — wear a scent you’ve never worn before with bonus points for a scent you haven’t read about and don’t know the notes for. Suggested by Eleebelle.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I know I have a sample of Mauboussin Mauboussin Homme (my only Morillas) somewhere in an unsorted pile in a box, but that seemed like waaaay too much work, so instead I grabbed at an unsorted bag of awesomeness from pixel and gave myself a healthy dose of Dame Verbena, Freesia, and Musk. And oh my goodness, I think I’ve found my scent of the summer!!! It’s so light and gorgeous, breathable and sweet and happy. I think my 5-mL mini will disappear quickly.
…I really need to sort my samples. It’s going to rain this weekend; maybe I’ll do that instead of working!
And you found it right on time! Nice.
Oh, thanks for mentioning, it sounds very nice. I have an untried sample of that at the bottom of a box, now that warm weather’s here I’ll have to give it a try.
The Dame scents really do seem to suit warm weather! Happy scent of the summer. 🙂
Agreed! Probably helps that they live and operate out of Arizona, lol! Luckiest 🙂
I was just wondering how much of a role that played, and wondering if anyone had done a thorough analysis of where good seasonal perfumes come from!
This comment is sending me on a very pleasant deep dive of the “summer” tag here!
Now it makes sense…… I bought myself Black Flower Mexican Vanilla one Christmas, and got samples with the shipment. They seemed very weak to me (from dabber vials) and I was puzzled. I get it now.
🙂 That one’s a tie for my favorite Dame Perfume, along with Passionfruit, Orange Blossom, and Vetiver. They’re going to see a lot of use this summer.
I’m trying that one today! I am not as in love with it as I am with Verbena, Freesia, & Musk, but it’s also quite lovely!
Happy Friday!! And for my fellow Americans, enjoy your Memorial Day weekend as well….
SOTD: My current favorite! Bvlgari’s Omnia Paraiba. Thanks, Mr. Morillas! 🙂 There is nothing really outstanding about this one….it’s a “Me Too” fruity floral….but I love it.
Looking forward to a weekend at home, puttering around, doing a whole bunch of nothing. (Will do a whole bunch of laundry as well….)
That’s the other I was considering for today!
I tried Omnia Paraiba while on vacation last week. Its very pretty!!
I have a sample of this one I have to try.
Weekends full of nothing and a bit of laundry are my favorite too.
Although I have more Alberto Morillas fragrances than I realized, today I’m wearing Aedes de Venustas Pallisandre.
Twins!!
Palissandre d’Or!
Me too!
Forgot it was Friday because I was pretty eager to test Grand Chalet. It is soft and poofy because it seems to be split 50/50 between the linden and mimosa. Running it against Pretty Machine on the other arm and Pretty Machine seems a little brighter/greener/crisper
I was testing Grand Chalet last night! Definitely soft. I wish there were a coffret of all of the Astier de Villatte colognes because I’ve enjoyed three out of three so far.
Which ones have you tested?
I already own Eau Chic, which is love (see Kevin’s famous milkweed review), and I testedd Commune de Paris yesterday. The early part of that one is gorgeous. Later on it’s much simplified and very close to the skin, where I get mainly sandalwood (or a good facsimile) and patchouli; it gets softer over time – less patch and more maybe vanilla. Several more to go.
Which do you Like better? I love Pretty Machine, but I am always up for another Linden scent…
I have a FB of Pretty Machine but I might end up with both
How is the staying power of Pretty Machine on you? It pretty much disappeared on me in 30 minutes
It’s 6 hours later, I’ve showered, and it’s still clear on my skin. Sillage drops but as long as I can clearly smell something when I sniff my skin, I consider it to be lasting. Of course, I have scent glue skin
SOTD is one of my two Morillas fragrances, the delightful “sun dress in a bottle” Kenzo Flower La Cologne.
What a great description! Love it!
Happy Friday Everyone! We are flooded out in my part of Houston again! No school today, so we have a 4-day weekend.
I don’t have any fragrances by the perfumer Alberto Morillas. Instead, my SOTD is Nutmeg and Ginger by Jo Malone. Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.
Oh my! Poor Houston
Not good about the flooding, but the extra long weekend sounds nice. Stay safe!
That sucks! I heard on the radio that the storm yesterday may have hit the north side harder than other areas, but I didn’t realize you were flooding again. I got rain in my area but no flooding that I know of. Stay safe.
Not too bad at my house, but I work at a school in the back of The Woodlands in Conroe. They got hit hard. Water got into a lot of the schools and the electricity is out. So, the district closed down for today. You stay safe as well, Sweetgrass. I heard we’re not in the clear yet.
Ick!! I hope your entire weekend isn’t a washout. Stay dry!
My SOTD is Bvlgari Omni Coral. I really do appreciate this fragrance. It is very easy to wear.
Twins!! I agree this one is really easy. I have a FB of Kenzo Flower (gift) and I just can’t handle all of the powder.
Good morning my lovely twin!!
I love the Omnia Coral in summer but not until my skin has been kissed just a bit by the summer sun. Then I bring out my turquoise and coral clothes I’d never wear any other season of the year, summer makeup and coral lipstick, and Omnia Coral.
He’s quite the talent, isn’t he? He’s done some major revolutionary scents.. none of which I have, or care to have having smelt them, but he’s made many brands lots of money & fans.
Just starting my day, coffee in hand and more chocolate saffron body oil on. It’s going to be a lazy, but hitting the books, weekend. Looking forward to watching my friend’s labradoodle and going on long walks in the park. Just wish I had a barbecue to do some grilling..
Oh, and I stopped in Hermes yesterday and tried the new Hermessence, Muguet Porcelaine, which did not work for me at all. Synthetic/artificial was my initial reaction, and unfortunately that didn’t change over time. As we like to say, money saved.
Happy Friday, friends!
Too bad about the Muguet Porcelaine. I’m looking forward to trying it because JCE and LOTV. But everything I’ve heard suggests it may not work for me either.
I was hopeful since I too enjoy JCE scents. Bummed.
It really seems to be a polarizing scent.
Inspired by yesterday’s post and how sweet she smelled with perfume layered with sweet body oil, I am in a Lab on Fire what we do in Paris is secret. Sweet smell’in Friday
You smell great! I wouldn’t mind a bottle of that if it happen along…
If one dropped on my lap I would be happy
🙂
Heliotrope heaven! Do you like Cuir Beluga?
Happy Friday all!
I went with Daisy today, from the most adorable mini. Though it isn’t really my cup of tea any more I think it is incredibly well done for a “youth” scent and doesn’t smell like the rest.
Oh and Robin, I feel your pain on Tubereuse 40. So gorgeous, but nothing is worth exclusive Le Labo priced.
It’s insane. I will live without!
Daisy is very nice, for a mainstream fruity floral! I do like it.
I went with it too. I am in my 50’s, but still do like Daisy on occasion. Plus, I get compliments.
I only have three Morillas perfumes: an Iris Prima mini, a bottle of Kenzo Summer, and a dinky decant of Apollo Hyacinth. I chose the latter because while I like Iris Prima, the woods in it remind me of a gorgeous but uninsulated hot summer attic in an old house I lived in and it’s gonna be too hot and muggy today even without that dusty baking wood note. I’ll bring Summer out to play in maybe a month or so. I still like Apollo Hyacinth quite a bit, but it’s not love. It’s somehow missing atmosphere and is too realistic and up-close for me rather than the lovely waft you get passing by the flowers.
I think Apollo Hyacinth is amazing (and it really lasts on my scent-eating skin, too), but I wanted a tiny touch more floral in there, more lushness.
It *is* amazing, and lasts really well on me, too. But it’s not quite … there. Kinda like extended foreplay without the big bang finale. 😉
Twins today. It’s nice, but not something I’d ever wear on the regular. Too . . . flowery?
Hi twin!
Heh, and I thought it wasn’t flowery enough!
Gosh y’all, I loved it! Feel free to send your samples this way! 😉
Hi Robin, quick question:
In the upcoming freebie meet, is it OK if I list a single lot of perfumes for pick-up only in my hometown? I have several items I would like to re-home, but I don’t want the hassle/expense of boxing and mailing. Thank you! Happy Friday!
Sure!
Thank you!
Versace Versense – the only Morillas perfume I have. It is a very pleasant green wood/citrus scent, and the mini bottle is elegant. 🙂
I had a mfr sample of Versense and used it up fast! If I didn’t already have full bottles of summery citrusy light things, I’d have bought a bottle of Versense.
VV is great stuff!! It’s quite affordable these days too….great deals on Ebay and FragranceNet….
Bvlgari Omnia today, and it’s still raining. Parts of town got 10 inches overnight.
10″!! Wow! Are you in the US? Hopefully damage is limited to inanimate objects rather than living beings…
I’m near Austin, TX. I haven’t heard about any serious flooding, other than the low water crossings, and the main highway to the airport was closed this morning.
Hi twin! Omnia is by far my favorite Morillas – we smell great!
Scent twin today! While I have several samples of AM’s fragrances, I own only 2 FBs, both Bvlgari. Since it’s cool and rainy here today as well, Omnia won out over Blv Notte.
Hope you get some relief from the rain soon.
My only Morrilas scent is Kenzo Flower, which I do like quite a lot, but only occasionally, in cold weather. Today is very hot, and I craved something summery, so I went with one of my favourites Miller Harris La Pluie.
Darned hot here too.
Hi Mayfly…see my update you have a Morillas (a decant but still)!
Started the day with Queen, which I sprayed last night before bed. Lasted all night and through this morning, even after an hour at the beach with T-Rex and a very wet and splashy swim lesson.
Not sure what I’ll wear after my shower. UPS has a long awaited delivery rumored to arrive today. If that shows up, I’ll wear it with great joy. If not, I’m thinking AG Ninfeo Mio, which is not part of the community project, but smells great none the less.
For all in the US, have a safe and happy Memorial Day holiday. As for me, I’ll be working. All weekend. And Monday. Ugh.
I am working Monday as well!
Sorry guys! If it’s any consolation, I am using my entire holiday weekend on annoying home improvement projects.
I’ll be working Monday, and on Sunday I have to do a 12 hour shift. I feel your pain!
I’ll be working a little bit as well. I’ll be home, but I have too much going on that I can’t not dedicate a few hours to some work.
I know, it’s stinks.
Maybe we need to reward ourselves with something that smells good!
SOTD is M7, so Robin and I are not twins today after all. M7 kind of reminds me of Broken Theories a little bit (although BT is quite a bit more aggressive). Looking forward to a 3-day weekend – I need to recharge my batteries.
Ah, and I did not pick that because I’ve worn it lately and there were others I hadn’t! But we’re sort of twins in spirit 🙂
It’s a wonderful scent – I only have a little bit, from the recent reverse swap meet, and am considering finding more … or finding a bottle of Broken Theories as a kind of stand-in … or both. 🙂
Is yours new or vintage? I still have not gone to smell the new stuff.
I love BT too!
In case SheriG does not see this — it’s vintage, at least according to the pictures on Kafka’s blog. It smells pretty darn good. I have not smelled the new stuff. I’ll have to add Broken Theories to my To Try list!
Thanks, hajusuuri – I was going to go back to our emails to see if you mentioned, one way or the other … it really is lovely stuff. Broken Theories is a bit more rambunctious, but it shares characteristics with M7’s top notes especially.
Thanks both!
Twins! And I topped off with Vanille 44.
Ooh, I’ll bet that was yummy.
Wore Amoureuse to bed last night. Gosh, that one is so heady! love it.
HS graduation tonight. My 17-yo is a junior class marshall, which is hard to believe. Where did the time go? Also, the scoop on the new mattress: the guy at the store said oh, yes, he did have queen rails and center support (my bed converts from full to queen) and they’d deliver those along with the mattress and box springs. Turned out he had rails that did not fit my bed 🙁 and we’re currently sleeping on the mattress on the floor while we wait for the rails to arrive. Verdict? It’s comfy, but for the past two days my hips have been a little achy in the morning. This is new, and leads me to believe that this mattress may actually be too soft for me.
SOTD is MJ Daisy, which is a cute, comfortable cotton sundress of a perfume. And yes, my husband still likes it a *lot*. 😉
I had the same thing with my mattress. I was sleeping on a slab o granite before, so anything in comparison feels like a marshmallow. And the mattress I sleep on in India is like a giant Wasa cracker. I have to remind myself of how much pain I was in with that old mattress. I still think the new one a little too soft, but I have adjusted to it.
Amoureuse is wonderful!
I, too, think Amoureuse is gorgeous! No one talks about Parfums Delrae any more….
Beautiful scent for bedtime!! I had the same problem with my mattress… It was too soft and I had hip pain (especially during pregnancy). Though I hope your hip pain is just a fluke and not mattress related. 🙂
Just got a set of Astier de Villatte samples from Aaedes de Venusta, plus Grace Coddington’s scent by ELdO, so I don’t think I’ll get around to Morillas today. Earlier this week, I did enjoy revisiting Lancome Oxygene, which I used to wear shortly after it came out in Y2K.
Wishing a great holiday weekend to all who have one!
Love hearing about your “historic ” collection. How do you like Grace?
Hi! I haven’t tried it yet. Today I got sidetracked by Bat, which arrived in a hoard of samples from IndieScents. I’m very curious about Grace though, because I love that bottle, so soon.
Correction, just realizing that Grace is by Comme des Garçons, not ELdO.
I got a sample of Grace at Twisted Lily! It was the best rose I smelled today. I couldn’t stand MCG Rrose Selavi and the SA thought it was unusual but brilliant (at least this was my interpretation) when I told her I want a sample anyway so I can figure out what it was about the perfume I did not like 🙂
The body of the Grace bottle was nice and hefty but the cap was cheap-looking plastic — they really should make it a heavier glass topper.
Mmmmmm you are an enabler. Must try as I hold hajusuri’s nose in high regard
Well, best rose today…overall, it is quite light which makes it very suitable summer rose.
I believe my only Morillas is Ferragamo Emozione, which I am wearing today. If I still had it though, I would be in Ocean Dream. Happy Memorial day weekend.
I liked that one.
Only Morillas I own is Le Labo Vanille 44. I’ve never worn it in such warm weather, but surprisingly, it works!
Hey twin. I’m with you today and it does work!
One of my coworkers commented early this morning that Vanille 44 smells like cedar. I’ve never bothered to look up the notes so I was surprised by her comment. It shares similarities with MCG Sideris, which I already own. It’s really very nice but Sideris is much more affordable and comes in 15 ml bottles.
Half twin! I wore M7 topped off with Vanille 44.
I have one Morilla, a mini bottle of Pleasures. I sprayed it on paper, and decided I can’t wear this anymore, though I used to enjoy it 20 years ago. So I am wearing vintage no 19 EdT.
At least you gave it a shot!
I considered blind buying the original Omnia for our project, it is still available here but not cheap. But reason got the better of me! I may have enough to bring to Donatella end of quarter.
I just checked, and it has become very expensive, I wouldn’t blind buy it, but will happily send you a sample of you would like me to.
Thank you Austenfan, that would be great! You have my address I believe, if not please mail me. I would be happy to smell it, especially having found out he made Journey.
Update! Gosh, I have been somewhat of a fool. Something kept nagging me about Alberto Morillas. Mindless googling just now brought me to: Amouage Journey, one of my top 5 of not top 3 fragrances is by Alberto Morillas (with Pierre Negrin). I don’t know how to make amends, save for wearing it tomorrow and possibly doing penance by buying the bodycream ;-). Apologies Mr Morillas!
Btw I saw that Myths is available for sampling here, I will report back.
I also loved Pleasures back in the day. Kind of skeered to try it now.
Well I don’t have any Morillas, not even a sample of one! But I do have some OJ Woman – I’m craving something with a bit of an edge today and that one has such a gorgeous edge, corner, crease…
Getting ready to work on my fifth book of painting. It’s abstract, but the overall shape looks like a coho salmon.
Love OJ woman!
Your painting sounds fabulous…as does your perfume.
Thank you! The OJ faded by afternoon, so I followed it with a drop of Mysore sandalwood oil. Seemed to be just the right thing in the heat and humidity here.
Attar Bazaar is having a 20% off sale for memorial day weekend and they carry sandalwood oil (Indian grown in Indonesia and Australian).
I’m wearing Omnia Coral. When I checked I found that I had a few Morillas scents. I chose this to make me feel a little better after last night’s interrupted sleep full of continuous thunder and lightning. Today isn’t supposed to be much better. However in Texas you really shouldn’t complain about rain, because in a few months we may not have any at all.
I keep saying it’s nice we caught up from the drought, but maybe not all at once. . . .
Yep. I’m sorry for people who are flooded, but there are places in Texas already who are wishing for more rain and dreading the return of the dry weather. I’ll take flooding over wildfires any time.
Vanille 44. It’s one of my favorites and surprisingly the only Morillas I own.
Scent twins! One of my favorites as well.
Happy and safe Memorial Day weekend to everyone.
Twins!
It was always going to be an Omnia today. The original if the weather was wet, and Crystalline if it was sunny. It’s sunny, so I’m covered in numerous sprays of Crystalline + bodylotion. It’s subtle but lovely.
Perfect. I wonder if Crystalline has been reformulated? I should go smell it again.
Woo hoo, Finally Friday and a long weekend to boot!
SOTD = YSL M7 (vtg) and Le Labo Vanille 44
I did a two-fer today as I can’t handle full strength M7 on a hot humid day. I’m off to Twisted Lily later today to discover some new goodies without the Sniffapalooza crowd!
Ooh, lucky you! Someday I want to visit there. I want to try Nomenclature Efflorescence.
Have a great time! There’s a nice piece about the so very helpful Twisted Lily owners http://thescentedhound.com
Yipee! I was thinking of you when I put a sample of Apoteker Tepe’s Pale Fire in my Twisted Lily cart. Have you tried it? It sounds like something you’d like.
PSA: Twisted Lily is having a sale: $30 off if you spend $150 or more, or free shipping if you spend $20 or more.
Ooooh…have a wonderful time at Twisted Lily. Be sure to report back.
Enjoy your sniffing! Let me know if they have the new Amouage and Gri Gri perfumes in the store, please ????
Fun! Enjoy!
Found a sample of M7 Edt and decided to copy this combo. Hope your sniffing adventures are going well…
Palissandre d’Or. I’m really grateful Friday community projects. If not for them, I’m afraid I’d forget to wear so many scents–even ones I like!
Glad they help!
It’s so true!
Palissandre d’Or for me too. Although I thought about Iris Prima. I wear Iris Prima often (have a full bottle and a back-up) and only a sample of Palissandre.
While they are very different perfumes, there is this thing at the start of polished wood floors – which I find very comforting for some reason!
Woo! Friday is here at last.
After 5 hours of blissful silence and zero interruptions yesterday, plus 2.5 hours this morning at home: reports are done!
I did not have any Morillas in my collection UNTIL I got a wonderful package in the mail from ihadanidea. Holy crap I’m loaded with samples to try now. I looked through the list and found I’ve got one Morillas, so I’m wearing/ testing that today: Penhaligon’s Blasted Bloom.
Time to chill out now. I’ve got a tea party this weekend with girlfriends and maybe a BBQ at our house Monday. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!
Enjoy the samples
After searching high and low for my mini of Sensi, I gave up and put on Le Baiser du Dragon. This seems soapy to me and surprisingly doesn’t have any incense that I can smell. This is more like a kiss from an iguana. Maybe I’m just grumpy because I couldn’t find the Sensi 🙁 .
I’ve read some good reviews about Sensi. It seems to have a following but I’ve never had the pleasure of testing it. Hope it turns up.
I have kissed an iguana but it didnt kiss me back so I dont have an accurate reference, but Le Baiser smelled soapy and meh to me too. No incense.
Baiser du Dragon is not remotely as assertive as it should be with a name like that.
After yesterday’s wrong-so-wrong perfume choice, I went straight for beauty and gravitas today and drained the last of my Tabac Aurea.
My husband’s off to Korea for a week and my kids are in the thick of final projects and exams, so I am fastening my seat belt for the next several days. I am anticipating a weekend of trying to remember middle school math, and brushing up on my Spanish conjugating–and looking forward to summer along with my boys.
So, no Casablanca last night, but I did discover a Netflix gem to warm the soul. Netflix has remastered “That Girl,” which is a blast. The fashion, furniture, and architecture make it worth watching–but the sassy and empowered (pre-Roe v. Wade!) dialog is a treat as well. And for all you young’uns–think Sex and the City circa 1966–but without the errr sex.
Netflix is great
I just finished the 2nd season of Grace and Frankie, I have a dry sense of humor so I enjoyed it.
I will check out this one that you recommend
Me too. I loved the gentle humor and nearly 80 year old Jane Fonda still has a totally bangin’ body.
I used to love “That Girl” and could never understand why they didn’t get married. I hope you have a good week.
So, I googled it last night and learned that (I have all the expertise that one can get in 4 minutes) Marlo Thomas did not want the show to end in marriage–she was trying to say something more about what makes a great relationship between a man and woman–which they have in the last episode. At least that is the theory du jour.
I so wanted to be THAT GIRL when I was little.
Interesting. I’m surprised the execs let her have that much creative control. However, at that time I was too little to understand.
That Girl! I so wanted to be her when I grew up! I remember I used to have lots of plans for my apartment in the Big City 🙂
Donald !!!! LOL
So glad you mentioned that, have not seen the show in years. Now I know what to binge watch when I have a huge block of time next.
Very sorry. It is on Amazon, not Netflix. Its free with Amazon Prime. Yikes!
Also in Vanille 44 from a leaky, evaporating decant. The sprayers that STC use now dont seem to be as reliable as the ones they used to use so Im reluctant to buy more decants, yet so many things are only available for me to acquire/try that way 🙁
One I did try here though was Jo Malone Nashi Blossom. After the lovely herb range- such a disappointment. It was the chemical smell of cheap shampoo, from beginning to end. The SA seemed to take it personally that I didnt like it and acted rather miffed. Oh well. :-/
I found that my TPC spray samples were evaporating. I wrapped parafilm around the neck and it may be helping. I believe I heard about it from Hajusuri.
They are all taped up, but it seems more often now (1 or 2 in 5 at a guess) they are leaking into the sprayer part at the top.
And of course, it’s always the nicest and most expensive that leak!
I’m losing some of my stuff into the sprayer, too. When that starts happening I unscrew it and use it as a dabber.
I had similar experience with both STC and TPC. I went through all of my decants and moved them into my own bottles.
I have too many samples to do the parafilm preservation technique. I’ve had no problem with the STC samples but the TPC ones have gone to pot. I had a baggie of sludgy perfumes that Marsha received to try to rehabilitate. I wonder how she did?
I keep most of my decants and samples in small baggies ( or whatever they are called). I put two or three similar scents together in each baggie and it seems to help with evaporation. I haven’t found an evaporated sample yet. Some of my samples are a few years old so it seems to be working.
I got the same raction from the SA when I tried Nashi Blossom. She seemed quite snippy that I didn’t like it, I guess she really loves it and I hurt her feelings. I tried not to recoil or make a face but apparently my instant “nope!” was insulting.
I’ve noticed that my more recent spray samples and decants are evaporating in spite of preventative measures. I assume that the quality of decanting supplies has fallen across the board, because it has happened with different bottles from different sources. Occasionally I can tell that they have just gotten a bad batch (one sample order from last year evaporated in record time, but the next order is fine). I hate dabbers and always try to order spray samples but sometimes I want to keep something for reference or for another season and the dabbers do keep better. I’ve been trying to order sample sets directly from the perfumers but sometimes it’s just not possible.
Yeah, I’ve had that reaction before from a sales associate-sigh. Never at Jo Malone, as the boutique I go to has pretty rad people working there, but at department stores for sure. I once said I didn’t care for a certain fragrance–I think it was something just forced upon me to sniff, and the woman responded by saying, “well, what DOOOOO you like then?” with a ton of attitude. I wanted to respond with, “Yes, that is EXACTLY how to respond if you want me to purchase something from you!” SMH.
Lol! This SA did the same thing!! It was almost like a challenge when she asked what kind of perfume I did like! I hadnt been rude at all to that point, merely said that I didnt like it and ok, I did say it smelt generic. I was thinking much worse. So by that point I said I liked lots of different things- but Nashi Blossom was not one of them..
She was the same SA who had been lovely when I tried the herb range and bought one..
funny how that works, isn’t it…
+1 here. I was at Diptyque counter a couple of weeks ago and did not care for Florabello or Oud Paleo. When the SA asked me why, I said that Oud smelled too medicinal on me, and Florabello was too fleeting. I got a whole lecture about propel only desiring non-invasive scents and who it is wrong to wear strong fragrances. Almost asked her if that sales technique works for her but did not feel like getting in it with a stranger.
Someone, probably here, pointed out that decants work best if you keep them upright. I stand them up in little boxes and so far so good.
Aha, I do that also.
Happy Friday and what a glorious day in London! I’m sans Morillas today, and wearing the unapologetically loud and exuberant Amouage Fate.
I was going to dig through my sample box to see if maybe a Morillas vial is there somewhere, but had to work late last night and grabbed the first decant that came to hand. I’m not sorry! Love reading what other people are wearing though and jotting down some research ideas.
Fate is on my FB list. I’ve been craving it a lot lately. So much $ that needs to go elsewhere but I think it’s time to start a Fate fund 🙂
Yeah, I know the feeling. I’ve got an MDCI fund, but I keep raiding it. That FB of Chypre Palatin is still not getting any closer. But, soon, I hope. Eventually. Maybe.
You smell great!????
I applied a drop of vintage Panthere this morning, but only after some debate. I have come to the conclusion that perhaps Mr. Morillas and I are not fated to tango. Of his long list of creations, the few I’ve tried did not rock my world (which probably explains why I didn’t seek out more to try). The one I’m wearing is… interesting. But also blisteringly sweet and fearsome in its tenacity. I applied super-light “out of an abundance of caution” as they say, yet my head hurts. Still… say not I am unfaithful to a weekly project ????
I wore a drop of vintage Panthere yesterday before showering: it’s so fantastically, enormously eighties. Really needs to be handle with tongs and a containment suit.
This. THIS. ????
LOL, those are my favs. I shudder to think that I used to dutifully spray all the recommended pulse points. 🙂
Half of one pulse point is enough! ????
Twins! I have very little Morillas. So I’m testing vintage Panthere ‘parfum de toilette’. To be honest I bought this for the package: it’s a 1ml dabber bottle being hugged by a standing black plastic panther. Totally cool presentation. The scent itself seems rather muted to me — not surprising, considering its likely age — but what I’m getting is an interesting spicy floral. I can guess it must have been a monster in its prime 🙂
I bought my Panthere mini for the bottle too! Mine is a little different (5 ml with a panther on either side – how could I resist?)
I have lusted after that bottle too 🙂
It really is a sweet bottle.
Triplets!
Whoot!
I have the same mini as Regina with two panthers. Beneath its main cap is a smaller cap that keeps the perfume from going on a rampage– er, I mean from evaporating. It’s an earth-shaking white floral that takes no hostages. ????
Alas, mine has no such extra cap. I’ve thought about offering it for swap but it would never make the journey!
Vintage M7, which I bought the day it was launched (a bad habit of mine): I think I had never smelled anything with oud in it before, back in the days before it was 1) in everything and 2) invariably synthetic. It’s so incredible, warm and potent and verging on aggressive, but it’s the only oud scent I own or will ever need; it fills that space in my collection all by itself.
So nice you have the original vintage!
Twins! Mine is vintage, too, off eBay. It is soooo good but too much for the heat so I topped off with Vanille 44.
Trying out my vintage mini of Panthere today! Lovely musk, but I get the feeling it is being overpowered by the drydown from the vintage Chloe I sprayed last night (which is a very lovely amber).
PSA (in case you missed it yesterday) for Tauer (no affiliation):
Free shipping and Discovery Set (5×1.5 ml sprays) with purchase of any of his Hommage bottles (Une Rose Chypree, Carillon pour un Ange, Une Rose Vermeille)
and
Free shipping with purchase of his Explorer set (3×15 ml sprays)
Did the math and prices seem reasonable. I think I’ll take the plunge for Une Rose Chypree, although it would be a blind buy…I’ve only tried his Lonesome Rider and it was lovely on me. Any advice(here’s your chance to collect another enabler pin 😉 )?
I saw that Tauer exploer set as well.. tempted. Also, Diptyque sent an email today offering 30ml on a number of their scents, just through June. Love these smaller offerings.
I missed that you’re wearing Panthere today also! I have a little mfg tester spray of URC if you want it–come by and pick it up.
I am a big fan of Une Rose Cyphre. I pretty much own all of his roses – and the 15 ml bottle sets offer you a great opportunity to try a ton of things
Panthere and Chloe together in a battle royale! You are a braver perfumista than I????
Or I! 🙂 You all are making me miss my vintage Panthere mini, which I no longer have.
The vintage Chloe, on the other hand, is a keeper. At least for now!
I wore vintage Chloe (the edt) for more than a decade, in my teens/early 20s. Resmelled the old stuff again recently and it is just SO GOOD — but I cannot wear it now, due to the emotional associations. Glad to know I had good taste way back when, though. 🙂
You still do. ;). Vintage Chloe is a goddess of a scent.
It’s going to be too hot here today for Palissandre d’Or, which I love, so I went with my only other Morillas fragrance: Au Lac. Jessica’s review of this one makes me wonder if my sample is mislabeled — she describes lemony lilies and osmanthus and jasmine, and all I get is nuts and dried grasses. Anyone else have any experience with this one?
Serge Lutens Fleurs de Citronnier
I’m wearing Sarah Jessica Parker’s Lovely Sheer. I just got it yesterday in the mail. I love it.
I’m glorying in the much hated, aquatic metallic floral-melon of Acqua di Gio for Women. I was going to wear 212 but have had a headache lately and am being cautious. AdG really suits our hot, humid weather right now and reminds me of spending time at the coast the summer after high school. I’m glad I can still wear it on occasion, unlike the Morillas creations with the scratchy vanilla base.
It seems I had a preference for Morillas’ creations in my teens and early twenties; Emporio Armani White (or “leaky sculpture no. 1” as it oozed perfume everywhere except out of the sprayer, as did the Mens version), 212, Blv, Blv Homme, Acqua di Gio, Omnia Crystalline and, of course, CK One.
I used to wear and love the Armani She White! I still have a non-leaky part bottle but forgot all about it as the weather is too cool.
I remember my Dad buying me some at a duty-free shop and he was totally puzzled (and unimpressed) as to why I would want to smell like that..
But- I have seen some good reviews. I think BdJ reviewed it positively and as she and I have very similar taste, after all these years I decided my 90’s aquatic phase had been validified 😉
I had 2 choices today – Calvin Klein Truth or Daisy Dream (both samples). I tried to put some Truth on a piece of paper to sniff since I couldn’t remember what it smells like, but ended up spilling half of it all over my hands. This sample is really old so may be off – I can’t remember what it is supposed to smell like. I’ll put some Daisy Dream on later – nice and inoffensive. Morillas makes good mainstream perfumes. Acqua di Gio & Pleasures were old favorites, back in the more aquatic times. I’ve dithered over buying a bottle of Versense for some time to have a nice no-brainer scent. All the Omnias are pretty decent – still need to try the Paraiba. Daisy is nice as well. Happy Friday all!
I found a mini of Kenzo Flower, the original, so now I can participate. I have done my new “dump half the sample on me” method for the fragrance today. I had put on some timid dabs before and was not impressed. Today, this proves to be much more than I expected, lots of flowers and even a bit of skanky musk for a while, heading into a complex drydown I haven’t really figured out yet. Much more interesting than I expected. I’ll wear it again in a week and decide if I like it…
I went for Eau de Gingembre from Mizensir and it’s working beautifully for me here on this rather warm and balmy Provençal Friday.
Wearing Iris Prima for the first time which I saw was on Morillas’ list…
It smells to me of the old school Revlon lipsticks that my mother used to wear (not sure how Revlon lipsticks smell nowadays) and musk…a bit cloying to me…
I’m in Palissandre d’Or, but wishing I had more Eric Buterbaugh Hyacinth… if it weren’t so expensive I would!
I am curious about the Eric Buterbaugh range but haven’t tried any…how do you like Hyacinth pls?
I love it – it’s a gorgeous spring floral, one of my favorites of the releases of the past few years. Sultry Rose was my other favorite, though I didn’t get much rose from it… more like plush velvet? That sounds odd, but really is what I think of when I wear it!
I want an EB just for the bottle! They’re so gorgeous.. simple, romantic, elegant. I need to pop into Saks and try soon.
Yes, they are amazing! And only $3/ml if you divide it out, so not horrible I suppose… but the 10ml travel sizes, which is all I’d need, are $125! $12.50/ml is most definitely out of my budget.
I have yet to smell the EBs. I stopped in yesterday to see if they got in the Dior Collection Privee elixirs (not yet) and the Dior SA (different from the one who gave me a nice size sample of La Colle Noire) gave me a mini of Feve Delicieuse (without me asking since I have. FB). For some reason, even though I have several minis, I never opened the little tube container. OMG, the mini bottle is really cute and looks like a scale model of the FB!
I hijacked your comment to comment to floragal. I have to try the EBs now that they are a available at both Bergdorfs and Saks. I think the company was bought by a larger company which is widening distribution. channels.
How’s the baby?
Great! Built like a cannonball, which is hilarious because my first was like a little spider monkey. Growing too fast as usual!!
No Morillas for me. I’m in Dita Von Teese today. I always forget about this one. Sheer rosy floral but with enough presence and working nicely in the heat today.
I only had a sample of it, but it was very pleasant!
Wearing Voulez Vous Coucher Avec Moi, which is far too innocent a scent to be using such language!
Wearing a spritz of Encens Mythique from my travel stash. Found a second hand store with lots of older bottles, and bought a mini of Avon’s In a Persian Wood for £3.
You smell excellent!
Looking over the list of Morillas’ creations, of which I have several, I was reminded of a delightful experience from several years ago.
Daydreaming at a boring meeting, I became aware of the subtlest aroma of, what is that?, yes, it’s lilacs. It didn’t smell like perfume and it wasn’t lilac season, so at first I really thought it was just wishful daydreaming. After awhile the fragrance was still present and I realized it was coming from a colleague seated near me. After the meeting we were chatting and I told her how wonderful she smelled, and she told me she was wearing EL Pleasures.
I have several minis that were GWP that I’ve never worn, but today’s project and the memory it evoked prompted me to choose Pleasures as my SOTD. It doesn’t smell as good on me as it did on her but it is quite pleasant and it’s perfect for the weather today – garden flowers, highlighted by lilacs, muted by a soft rain.
I adored Pleasures back in the day! Sure wish I had saved a smidge. I haven’t smelled it in a long long time. And I have a feeling I wouldn’t be happy with the current version. ????
Imagine me in my sample of Kenzo Flower, which is the only Morillas I have. I fully intended to wear that today, but I am in bed, nursing a pulled (or possibly torn) hamstring from a fall yesterday evening in our apartment. I stepped on something slippery in a tight space and my left leg slammed down in a split too advanced for my age and general fitness.. (Likely too advanced for anyone outside a high school cheerleading contest…). It isn’t worth the pain to hop to the cabinet to find the sample. Not much I can do other than stay off my feet the next couple of days and see if it gets better. I spoke to a doctor friend who advised me to just continue what I’m doing and check in with him.
I have realized I vastly prefer waiting on my husband than being waited on. And I am hugely grateful that an hour before I fell, I had showered and washed my hair. So, at least I don’t feel gross….
It may impact my pawing through the cabinet for the freebiemeet. I know of at least one thing I should pass along but I bet there is more…
Second time I’ve fallen in our new apartment. The other one was scarier looking (and was me being stupid with a big painting) but did no harm. Gads, I hope things don’t go in threes. I’ve generally escaped real injury in my life….
Oh gosh! I hope you recover soon.
Oh no! So sorry! Rest up and I hope you heal quickly!
My gosh, I hope you heal up quickly. Feel better.
I’m sorry about your accident! I hope you heal up quickly. Can you send your husband out? Sometimes it’s better to be alone when you’re ill, even for just a short time.
He is out. Had a lunch appointment, so he set me up with a PB sandwich and some sparkling water. Living the dream!
Maybe I’ll ask him to sing Soft Kitty when he returns.
The important thing for everyone in my world is….Don’t Tell Mom!! She turned 92 this week and doesn’t need the worry…she’s a little obsessive on the health/doctor front…
We can do it for you:
Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur…..happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr purr purr ????????????
🙂
Hope the pain fades soon.
????????????????????
oh… not fun. So sorry to hear this. Glad you can rest and it wasn’t a fall that sent you straight to the hospital.
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh, I hope it heals quickly!
I’m so sorry to hear you’ve injured yourself. I hope you feel better soon!
Oh dear! Wishing you a speedy recovery! …As a lifelong klutz, I highly recommend this arnica gel. I can’t live without it: it’s good on sore muscles and injuries, and it actually makes bruises disappear faster (and doesn’t react with any medications). Have someone go pick you some up at Whole Foods or somewhere similar.

Thanks. I had some of that but lost it in various moves. I’ve asked my husband to get some. I know it works, because I used it once when I hit my knee hard.
Thanks for all the kind wishes. I’m working my way through Bosch on Amazon…
Hope you’re up and feeling better soon!
Oh my goodness! How scary and painful-sounding! Get better soon!!!
Ow! Hope it’s not too bad and heals quickly!
Yikes! Do rest up and hope you fully heal in no time at all!
Oh yike. So glad you got your shower BEFORE the fall… although I think sometimes that when I’ve been sick or recovering from surgery, the goal of getting clean managed to get me upright sooner. 🙂
SOTD and Morillas #5 is – well, who cares what it is. It’s as bad as Morillas #1-4. (Bvlgari Man Intense, since you ask. But really, it’s rubbish).
Tried a spray of Givenchy Pi at Duty Free. It’s alright. But if that’s the best Señor Morillas has to offer… :^s
On the other wrist: Guerlain L’Heure Bleu. Now there’s a scent. Not sure it’s for me, but you wouldn’t mistakenly clean the windows with it. :^)
Well, *that* wrist certainly smells great! And, no, no person with a functioning nose would mistake it for window cleaner! ????
Do you like Iris? If so, try Iris Prima. Not terribly long lasting, but a very nice unisex Morillas scent.
I have Iris Prima as part of the Penhaligons discovery set, and I do like Iris Ukiyo-e. I’m sure Penhaligons can’t all be as poor as the few I’ve tried to date. :^)
Ha, I dislike the few Morillas scents I’ve tried. I’m glad it’s not just me 🙂
The great thing about this Morillas week is I feel I have dismissed a whole bunch of nothing perfumes in one go, so in principle there must be better stuff ahead. :^)
Sotd: Oxygene
Yowza, I’ve been wearing this fresh and understated scent for 15 years! It also owns the distinction of being my only repeat bottle purchase in the past 15 years. Now that my “collection” (lol, obsession) has grown, I don’t wear it often. But it’s great for office and errands.
And I don’t think I’ve ever smelled it!
Totally forgot it was Friday. Wearing Worth Courtesan because it’s so hot out.
I’m wearing Omnia today. I thought it was the only Morillas I had. Somehow I missed Kenzo Flower in the list on his page, so turns out I have two. 🙂
Alberto Morillas has worked on over 200 perfumes, and I don’t have a single one. Not even a sample. So today I went with a nice spring/summer scent; I’m in Annick Goutal Gardénia Passion.
Have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend, everyone!
Oh…you smell nice.
Thanks! It is quite lovely and working well with my not-too-warm weather today.
I’m also in Iris Prima today. I tend to think of this as a ladylike scent and wasn’t sure it would make it through my late spring cold, but maybe the warm weather is making it assert itself. It’s still ladylike, but it’s veering toward “Ladies Who Lunch.”
I have a round of goodbyes to say today. Many of my friends who defended their dissertations this semester are leaving. I’m proud of them, but it’s bittersweet.
Oh, grad-school-goodbyes are a real bummer, aren’t they? Here’s hoping you get to spend as much time as possible with your friends!
Yeah, the biggest bummer is that, given the whims of the job market, this truly might be the last time I see them. I’m trying to make it count.
It was almost 90F today so I wore Mugler Cologne, one of my go-to “scorchers”. Thank you, señor Morillas, for making me smell so good.
I started the day with a decadent breakfast of a latte and a chocolate-frosted cupcake, so I can tell it’s going to be one of _those_ days. Like pixel and olenska, I’m wearing Panthere today. Mine is the parfum, and when I heard it had been discontinued I bought another 65ml of it to ensure a lifetime supply. The parfum wears close and has loads of civet (probably why I like it so much) and I agree, the bottle is so pretty. My parfum has a golden panther on the cap, but I also have the mini with them on the sides.
I don’t have any frags by Alberto Morillas – not sure if that is something that requires a correction. 🙂 SOTD – Cyphre Pallatin
Some samples coming your way… there’s one Morillas in there.
I would have counted it a lucky escape. :^D
CK One for me today! Trying to wrestle all the tropical plants to their outside homes so some cooling citrus was definitely in order.
Nothing of Morillas available so I’ve gone rogue for today’s project.
Started the day with my much-loved Vetiver Tonka but a little sniffing seemed in order so came downtown to try Angel Muse. I stupidly thought it might be like a bigger VT but of course it resembles Angel much more! Not for me.
Tried Oriental Express too which is very nice but I don’t find it unique enough for the price tag.
Winner of the day….Jicky! So much for new releases.
Jicky is pretty much the farthest away from a new release as it gets! Smells fab, though!
I find I’m not in the mood for Bat, and I happened to run across a mini of Intuition, which I can’t remember ever testing. If not now, when? I don’t think I really like it but I appreciate that it has some old school ingredients and actually smells weirder than Bat to me. I’ll probably try to wash both of them off later and get back to the AdVs or Grace.
I’m wearing BVLGARI MAN EXTREME.
It’s a nice fresh vetiver by Alberto.
A bit acrid in the middle but still a nice warm weather scent.
Oh and may be a spray of BonBon (not a Morillas) mid afternoon instead of a high calorie dessert!
Ah, yes, that’s what I was wearing, not Man Intense as I wrote above. The truth is, I was too underwhelmed to bother looking it up to check the name. I’m glad you like it (and slightly amazed. But then, I just got the acrid, without the vetiver) :^)
Wore Bronze Goddess yesterday and, with it still being in the 90s, continued with a bit this morning. Now I’ve splashed on Mugler cologne (from the cute salad dressing/men’s dressing splash) and really enjoying it. Before perfumistas days I was a big fan of Bulgari Femme and moved on to Omnia and then loved Omnia Cristalle and some of the other flankers for their simplicity. Mr Morillas may not be my absolute favorite but he’s scented a reasonable amount of my life!
Love your description of the Cologne bottle! 🙂
Very good morning, NST. It’s simply hosing down here, no where near flooding, but plenty enough to make the city cold and splashy and be-puddled. My sympathies to all of you in Houston and other rain-afflicted areas.
I truly was going to join the project today, probably in Flower, but in the event, I can’t bring myself to. I’ve got an ominous headache, I feel slightly down pin, and I want something cooler and less girly than Flower, not that it isn’t lovely in the right place at the right time. So anyway, I’ve chosen Ninfeo Mio as my SOTD. Somehow, counter-intuitively, its cool, underwater greenness is perfect for the grey day, and also, oddly, it seems to suggest life in slow motion. That too suits my mood and my general state of being. Be well and safe, NS-Tites everywhere.
Wow, you are my scent twin in more than one way today! The only Morillas creation I have is Flower, and it just isn’t that kind of day here, either. So I chose – you guessed it – Ninfeo Mio.
Sorry to hear about the raw weather and your headache. 🙁
SOTD = Calvin Klein Truth. Several people had mentioned it earlier on. It’s working really well with the 90-something F temps here. However, I wonder if the topnotes are starting to go off… 🙁
I did not have a single Morillas creation until the mail arrived with my giganto bottle of Mugler Cologne. I tried a dab, and now I realize why Robin has often mentioned it – the orange blossom note is so pretty. I can see keeping a decant of this in the fridge for when it gets really hot out.
Unfortunately, it’s a gloomy 57 here right now, so I think I will return to my Art of Shaving Sandalwood.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
It’s great stuff in hot weather! We finally have hot weather, sorry you’ve still got gloom.
Thanks, Robin! We’ll be in the 90’s soon enough. ????
I only have one Morillas: Manifesto, which I bought for the basil note.
It sounds like you’re in an enviable position – that one has quite a following!
My only fragrance by Morillas appears to be Pleasures, so I’m sniffing it, delicately, from a new-ish spray sample. Haven’t decided if I’m up to wearing it today, but perhaps I will try it this evening after dinner/before evening shower. Pleasures can be fabulous or overwhelming on me with no rhyme or reason. It’s magic!

Thanks to everyone who posted today and last Friday. I loved reading the understated fragrance conversations and gleaned many ideas for scents to try. I’m an eau de Cologne lover. Lighter, softer, and understated scents float my boat.
I’m excited about next Friday’s project. I have a sample of Missoni edp that I’ve never tried and know nothing about. I’ll try to keep it that way until next week. 😉
I remember Luca Turin raving about Missoni so it should be something to look forward to.
