It's Monday's ugly little sister, again. And it's pouring rain, and I'm extra tired — hope everyone else is feeling more chipper than I am! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Sonoma Scent Studio Vintage Rose. I think this one is discontinued, in which case I'm glad I bought it when I did. I'm on my third cup of Irish Breakfast, and might have to have a little nip of coffee.
Reminder: On 4/15 we're wearing rose for What's in a name, part 1 ("What's in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet").
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Love that rose photo. I’m a little tired today too. Just got in the office and downed my first cup of Twinings English Breakfast. Will need many more.
How about that monsoon that’s going on outside right now? Geez….
I’m in Ta’if today. Starting off rose week now. Really like this one.
Ah, you smell great!
Thanks! Looks like the sunshine might come around late afternoon. Fingers crossed it will.
With you on super tired, Robin. The spring that won’t quite come in the U.S. northeast and mid-Atlantic? Tobacco Rose for me today. I just got 5ml after using smaller samples and I may just need to buy a bottle.
Yes, the weather is not helping! I need some serious sunshine.
Ambre Nuit (Dior). Beautiful sunny cool spring day here in the Midwest.
How is the rose in this one? Or is it more amber?
It isn’t an amber at all… The rose to me is somewhat ‘cosmetic’, if that makes sense, although I don’t really have anything similar in my collection to compare it to. Starts off a little more feminine, then switches to masculine. Love it!
Also wanted to say that I still haven’t adjusted to DST. The older I get the harder it is to adapt to these time changes. 🙂
I’m with you on this one. It seems to hit me hardest about 3 weeks after the change. Go figure.
I am starting Rose Week -I think I have enough for one whole month.
SOTD is Lyric..so so beautiful
Tea is MF French Breakfast, L’Oreal liquid lipstick in Rose Melody
You smell fabulous!
You look and smell good!
Did you survive yesterday reasonably well?
I am with you, Robin…not chipper at all, sleep deprived and drove an hour in pouring rain to get to work..
Wearing my own concoction right now that I made for a niece who wanted a “Sweet Rose Oud”…..an essential oil blend of sweet orange, morrocan rose, bourbon vanilla, sandalwood, frankincense and a hefty dosage of agarwood blended in beeswax so that it is a solid perfume.
Once at work I sprayed the air liberally and walked through Dame”s Rose de Mai…which I must say is lovely.
Later I am going to revisit Rose Anonyme…I know it gets a lot of love but the first time I tried it the synthetic oud took over on my skin….I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it….synthetic ouds are tricky for me which is why I tend to stick with agarwood e.o. But we shall see!
Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I believe that Laurie tweaked Vintage Rose and turned it into Rose Volupte…..(which I think is still in production)…….
I think that might be right.
http://www.sonomascentstudio.com/ScentPages/rosevolupte.shtml
Yes, it was reformulated with some changes so lucky you that you still have your Vintage Rose 🙂
Applied Rose Anonyme to my sleeves….still doesn’t work for me so I will be giving my sample to the oud loving niece….and I just found out that today is National Licorice Day so I may end with some Reglisse Noire……
I found a sample of RA last night. I am still on the fence on this one. Will need to spend some time with it.
It’s finally sunny in my neck of the woods! Kusmi’s having a 20% off deal for those of you looking to restock. A bit of vintage Joy edt for a combo rose/jasmine lift.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been needing to restock my tea stash.
Tea sale=my wallet running away
Me too! Every time I participate in SOTD I walk away with an ever growing list of many things I want that come highly recommended…..but I am holding back and not purchasing any more tea (at least for now 🙂 !!)
That Kusmi sale is tempting. I’ve just almost used up my sampler box and have been wanting to try some others.
Annick Goutal Grand Amour today, which was my first niche perfume ever (if Goutal can still be called niche). I remember telling the SA at Saks that I liked Opium, and he came up with this. Grand Amour and Opium do both have myrrh notes so he wasn’t completely off.
My first niche fragrance was a Goutal too. Le Chèvrefeuille, very different to Grand Amour, but also very Goutal. You smell great.
I am in Annick Goutal as well, but on the garden side of things with Ninfeo Mio.
Love that one- you smell great!
I put Ann Gerard Rose Cut on in the morning, but it seemed a bit sour, so I added some Misia. I’m not sure what exactly I’m smelling now (in the afternoon) on my wrist – I think it’s mostly the drydown of Rose Cut -, but it smells pretty good.
This one sounds really nice from the reviews I’ve read.
Definitely worth trying, if you can get your hands on a sample.
You smell great! Do you think the top notes have gone bad in Rose Cut? I haven’t had the sour issue before luckily.
I think there is something in the top notes that simply does not work for me, because I remember this reaction also from the first time I tried this, a long time ago. It’s not really sour sour, possibly just an effect of aldehydes. But now I’ve realised that the rest is really nice 🙂
I know you are not a Rose fiend, how is Rose Cut? I recently tried my first Gerard; Perle de Mousse, which I adore. Fortunately, as I blind bought it. ( it was on sale 😉 )
I like Perle de Mousse a lot too. There is something in the opening of Rose Cut that that I do not like and I have therefore dismissed it before. But in later stages it’s actually a lovely, sophisticated rose. I believe Victoria liked it as well.
Vintage Rose is one of the greats! When Laurie reformulated it she renamed it (Rose Volupte). The new version is still really good but I think VR was deeper and darker.
I’m wearing Une Rose Chypree.
You smell lovely! I’ve only sampled URC but I thought it was beautiful.
Thanks — I will have to make my bottle last then!
I wish I got a bottle when I had the chance. I just have a little left in my purse spray.
Ooo, one of my favorite Tauers! You smell wonderful!
Alas for having no rose scents! I dabbed on a bit of St. John White Camellias. They don’t have the new Rose Parfums at our VS yet, either. 🙁
Sipping Cafe Bustelo. The jitters will start soon 😀
No, not in Raleigh either as of Sunday, just Citrus.
No roses at my AZ VS, either–and I specifically went in yesterday to sniff them. Bummer.
I should have some Bustelo on hand for when other coffee is not doing it’s job 😉
When I worked in our downtown office, an officemate had a contraband drip coffee maker and the coffee he made (and which I had an occasional cuppa) was Cafe Bustela. That drip coffee maker died and someone brought in a Keurig. The WORST k-cup EVER EVER EVER was one flavored with … blueberry. I thought I was going to walk around with a nuclear glow after having that one sip. Surprisingly, one of my co-workers actually loved it. Eeeeek!!!
Une Rose Chyprée, which I actually don’t think is that rosy. Nevertheless a wonderful scent.
I think that is what I like about Tauer’s rose scents- they are atypical rose fragrances and very complex. You smell great!
Andy does roses really well, I think. I’m a great friend of his Le Maroc pour Elle as well.
You smell lovely today.
Ah, I think I ran my decant of this dry. It is great! Need to get more…
I love pink roses. The picture of the day is so pretty.
SOTD is Rose de Petra by Stephane Humbert Lucas 777. I was given this as an extra sample in the recent swap meet from the generous and lovely ElisaP. This is a beautiful rose and incense scent. I think I need a decant of this one. What a beauty! Thanks Elisa!!
That pink rose is lovely, isn’t it?
Awww. So glad you’re enjoying it. I don’t get much in the way of incense from it though. Maybe some hints of leather. In any event, you smell very beautiful today and I’m so glad you’re enjoying it 🙂
It could be me Elisa. My nose is perpetually blocked during spring. Either way, it IS lovely!
Participating in rose week in a rather oblique manner since I don’t really like rose. At least not as the star of the show, I should clarify. I have discovered that I must like it in a supportive role since I was rather surprised to see that my SOTD includes nor one, but TWO types of rose.
SOTD is MFK Cologne pour le Soir with both Bulgarian and Iranian rose, per LuckyScent website. Color me surprised! I had no clue until 5 minutes ago.
Robin, hope you are able to find some giddy-up to take you through the the rest of the day ????
You know that there is rare baie rose in Queen…..so you could wear that one this week 🙂
Oh, see, I didn’t even know that! I rarely look at notes and just purchase or sample based on my emotional reaction at first sniff, unless it’s a blind buy, like Queen. But, when I DO investigate current bottles/samples, I am surprised to see how many times certain notes pop up. So apparently I have an affinity for certain ingredients. I should probably be more cognizant and scientific in my approach to perfumes. Thanks for your input ????
Nah…I like your approach much better…sometimes I end up with bottles because I assume I should ‘love’ something based on the notes and I subconsciously tell myself I do…but emotional reaction is probably the better way to go 🙂
And actually my comment above was silly me trying to be funny because I am still so impressed by your ability to wear Queen so many days in a row out of love and desire….I want to feel that way about a perfume again!
In regards to your comment below, I have made a conscious effort to enjoy and appreciate even the most insignificant things in an effort not to be old, jaded, cynical, bitter, and antisocial. In that same vein, when I go Panera for a salad with bread on the side, they always ask “Would you like a .99 cent pastry to go with that?” Hell YEAH, I would like a .99 cent pastry! BUT I have chosen to consider my side of bread my desert. And I am very grateful for that bread and thoroughly enjoy it.
This behavior is also know as playing mind games with yourself ????
I bought Queen last night for $10, thanks to you, Deva! I LOVE IT!!!! 🙂
Happy you like it and thanks go to Robin whose review, not to mention the economical price tag, convinced me to give it a go. I love it when people can find love on the cheap!
*shines enabler pin*
Really it is too bad her line disappeared. I guess it didn’t sell, and it might actually be the kiss of death for a celebrity line if perfumistas like the product — that probably means it wasn’t clean enough for the target market.
Aaaaaaaand, I snagged a bottle of Queen of Hearts today!!!
baie rose = pink pepper – but this not only doesn’t rule it out for rose week; it is also a brilliant rejoinder to the thematic question “what’s in a name?” :^)
Yay! Glad you said that. I have a bottle of this, so I will be wearing it this week!
Smelled Queen “in the wild” at my community chorus concert last night! One of the altos was wearing it, and she smelled lovely.
It smells different on her than it does on me – deeper and a little dirty (in a good way).
“In the wild” – I love that the wilderness made an appearance at the local community concert!
And yes, “dirty in a good way” is very, very good! ????
I have trouble with rose as a central figure in perfumes, and went looking last night for lists of perfumes with rose as a lesser note. No luck. Thanks for the comments. 🙂
Did a little research on rose middle notes. Fragrantica lists it in:
No. 19
1000 (Patou)
4711
By Night White (Profumi del Forte)
Colonia (Acqua di Parma)
Eau de Soir (Sisley)
Heritage (Guerlain)
Santal Blush (TF)
For the rose challenged…..
Thank you kindly! I am most definitely “rose challenged” but always looking to expand my “no flower boundary.” ????
Thanks, I hope so too!
You smell fab! I do get the rose from CPlS, but not fresh garden rose. More like old, dried, dark rose pulverized into powder and drenched in some dirty honey.
Oh, that must be why I like it so much! Because I don’t like real live garden roses either, which is probably considered perfumista heresy ????
No heresy committed! I like rose scents but I’m very picky about them.
I’m wearing Perris Monte Carlo Oud Imperial, because today is chilly.
I am tired also, went to the gym this morning (just restarted after many months of absence).
Good luck getting back into a gym routine, and gosh, so many of us are tired today!
I pulled the pin on Agent Provocateur this morning and added some of the solid perfume to my wrists for backup.
An old favorite I forget to wear. Maybe this week!
I really need to try this one. It sounds like something I’d like.
i never have tried this one either
Oh, I think I have a sample of this, lost somewhere in the deepy depths of my perfume cabinet. Thanks for the reminder!
“pulled the pin” 😀
AP was an early love for me, but I haven’t worn it in years, mostly because I found it too big. Ducking while confessing to throwing out my very old partially full bottle yesterday while packing. I suppose I could have freebied it, but I was in a tossing kinda mood.
Gross and rainy here, too. I’m in L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme because it is so unbelievably good. An instant classic. I hope they haven’t reformulated it into something dull and predictable.
Ha, don’t count on it, right?
Milk of Flowers for now but will wash it off later before meeting some Boston folk at the Pru for sniffing (5:30 at the revamped Sephora and we’ll post on meetup when we shift stores)
SOTD is L’Artisan Drole de Rose.
I need to wear that this week!
You’re all very rosy today! I’m in iris…Equistrius to be precise, and it’s soooo beautiful.
mmm… you smell good.
You smell great. I’ve been wanting to wear Equistris but the heat and humidity right now aren’t cooperating. I prefer most iris in cooler temps.
It’s fantastic and you smell fab????
Having a bad cold, fortunately my sense of smell is not impaired (yet?). Roses are (still) difficult for me on a good day, so I chose Iris Silver Mist and it worked out really well. Wonderful scent. Sniff.
I need to try that one – roses aren’t usually super-swell on me either, but iris … mmmmmmm. 🙂 Hope your cold goes away soon.
Thank you!
Cut the cold with iris!
Get well soon.
Best cold advice ever.
You smell great, even if you don’t feel great.
Ha!
Hope you feel better soon! ISM is kind of a health tonic, isn’t it?
It is, wonderful.
The colds are bad this year, and they came on coming back as well. Beterschap!
Indeed I thought it had gone but it came back with a vengeance. Thank you for well wishes! Hopefully you will escape this year’s viruses.
SOTD is Kenzo Flower which has rose in it. I think yesterday’s #31 also had some rose, so I’m sort of participating in rose week.
Hey, I think you should get points for that 🙂
SOTD is Ormonde Man, beautiful and comforting as ever. Great for a grey day like today
Nice 🙂
Chanel Coromandel
Because yesterday’s prediction was accurate, and I need the comfort.
I hope it works and, of course, you smell wonderful.
I picked my laundry yesterday and my shirt collar still reeked of Coromandel. It is wonderful in every way.
Oh, fantastic! I assume this is a testament to durability, tenacity, and quality of Coromandel, and not poor service on the part of the laundromat ????
lol it could go either way, now that you have mentioned it.
SOTD = Dior Homme. Still experimenting with this vs Homme Intense, but pretty sure I only like HI and LOVE Homme … and my sample is about gone so it’s time to decide between a larger sample and a “deluxe” one. Decisions, decisions …
Still haven’t gotten around to trying the Intense, but from what I’ve read, most people prefer the original.
Ninfeo Mio from Annick Goutal. Galbanum tone, bitter orange, citron, lavender, and lemony tanginess that lasts through the dry down on a base of dry woods.
It is 16C/61F here 😀
And the figs!
Great fragrance and great weather ( I am so jealous 🙂 !!! 41F and raining quite heavy)
I love rose perfumes so I have several in my collection. Today I am wearing one of my favorites. SMN Rosa and enjoying it a lot. I find this one easy to wear and layer and so comforting.
I just purchased a nail polish named “Hera” which happens to be a pale rose with a bit of holographic glitter.
Never smelled Rosa, but quite sure you smell great????
The Australian company Napoleon Perdis did a great DeVine Goddess lipstick called Hera – a pink beige – if you like matching nails to lips to rose scents to Hera.
Woke up dizzy and utterly exhausted, so at home today and probably will be in bed/on the couch for the rest of the day. At first I thought it was my meds for my (subclinical) thyroid condition, but Doc tells me that no, it’s just plain old over exertion ( I did overdo the biking during the sunny stretch we had last week) and mild dehydration, so plenty of rest and tea it is!
SOTD: Tulsi rose tea and Mario Badescu Rose Facial spray.
Oh dear I truly hope that you feel better! Enjoy the opportunity to relax on the coach..sometimes a day off is all you need to get back on track!
But yes to Tulsi rose tea!!!!!! One of my all time favourites! Did you pick that up at Vitacost? I am getting my order today (hopefully) and am already psyched and planning on slathering my body in the sandalwood oil tomorrow and topping it off with Dame’s Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood (this is what happens when I have insomnia….I am thinking ahead on all of the rose fragrances I can wear this week-LOL!)
Hi there! I already had a FULL box of Holy Tulsi and Sweet Rose tea so I did not order anymore. I get my shipment tomorrow and I ordered almond oil, rose hip seed oil, a variety of nuts and seeds, some supplements and a vitamin c cream for the face!
I’ve been having that utterly-exhausted-for-no-discernible-reason thing too, and my mother keeps saying, “Go have your thyroid tested. And not by your GP! Make your GP send you to the endocrinologist!” Thyroid issues run in the family – not just my mom but all three of my dad’s sisters have been on Synthroid for decades now. (They’re all in their late 60s to mid-70s.)
Apparently my mother went undiagnosed for years because her GP’s tests only looked at her overall thyroid level (TSH? T4? I can’t remember). My brother was having problems with his liver function, and his doctor wanted to rule out a genetic problem possibility, so both my parents got sent to the endocrinologist. As it turned out, Mom’s thyroid *level* was normal, but her other readings were way out of whack.
Oops, hit post too soon.
Hope you’re feeling much better quickly. Tea and rest should help.
Exactly right- the human body needs to convert T4 to T3 in order for it to be useful on a cellular level and a screening TSH doesn’t not evaluate if this conversion occurs. Some folks, for a variety of reasons will never convert, or not convert enough, to maintain homeostasis, and do much better with T3 supplementation. A thorough work up should be done if you suffer those symptoms but screening labs are normal. Not giving medical advice, but encouraging people to be proactive regarding their health ????
Oh that sounds like very good advice! Listen to your mother! 🙂
Hey there!
Thanks so much! And do go ahead and get checked out. For me it’s a combo of funky thyroid issues, other hormone issues and not getting enough rest. The good thing is that I do exercise and eat right (vegetables and beans being the center of my diet) so if I take my meds and get the rest I need I do rebound quickly.
Hope you feel better soon. Definitely get lots of rest and liquids.
Thanks so much! I do need it!
Take it easy
The groundhog really screwed up this year!! I want those warm, sunny, balmy Spring days to get here and STAY!!!
SOTD: Day, by Sarabecca.
Smelly news: Thanks to Deva’s extra good reviews, I found an ample supply of Queen at my TJ Maxx last night. GORGEOUS. Instantly went to the top of my celebrity scent favorites! (Knocked long time Lovely off it’s #1 spot!) I’ll be checking out the flanker one day soon…..
Also found my SOTD for $4.99. Meh. I’m getting a furniture polish lemon from it….This one is probably a goner soon. For 5 bucks, I’m not gonna cry too much. 🙂
Agreeing about the weather…hating it…what happened to spring?????
Nice on your great find at TJ Maxx…I love hearing when something that is so affordable is well made and gets good love 🙂
Ok so I just checked (since I am not anywhere near a TJ Maxx) fragrance net has both Queen and Queen of Hearts for 12 and 13 dollars for 100ml…..sitting on my hands…sitting on my hands…..
I’m going for the flanker on Fragrance net…..Just telling myself I don’t need it…..I really don’t…..LOL
Oh, let us know! I just stopped by TJMaxx looking for it, but no go, sadly.
Chocolatemarzipan, if you are in the US and want a sample, just email me @ taiga101 in the land of yahoolagins ????
Deva-
You are too kind and I very much appreciate the offer…but I am really TRYING so very hard to downsize my collection….and I vowed no more samples, decants or bottles until I start to make a dent in it…….
which is why I am sitting on my hands and NOT ordering from fragrancenet despite the rave reviews and excellent price!
But thank you 🙂 !!!!
You’re welcome! Hit me up any time if you reconsider. Cheers!
Same here for now. I will NOT order from FragranceNet this quarter! Or maybe next quarter! LOL I don’t need it…I must learn to be CONTENT! 🙂
Can I cash in on this offer of a sample? I’d love to find a $12 bottle of something great! (I also don’t need any more perfume, but $12 is basically free, right?)
Happy you are enjoying it, but credit has to go to Robin, whose review convinced me to give it a whirl. Well, the price, too! I mean, come ON! $9.99 for a great huge gallon of glorious smelling stuff?! It’s a no brainer ????
Sunny spells with a cool breeze here in London. I ate my lunch outside – forgot to pick up a plastic fork so was shovelling pea salad into my mouth with my fingers. Classy!
SOTD is “Elephant and Roses” from Maria Candida Gentile. I mostly got sweet hay from this at the beginning, wi
with little rose. Now at lunchtime it’s an indistinct, slightly powdery skin scent. There’s a bit of ‘elephant’ (something animalic or indolic) as I respray. More than rose, the scent reminds me of a pillow sachet I once bought with meadowsweet and dried herbs.
Anyway look: the name alone is great fun and the juice will tingle the memories of anyone who grew up with or near hay or the cleaner types of livestock. I’m glad I tried it and I might longlist it, but as a bottled memory or experience rather than as a perfume. :^)
I was curious about that one too. My fav. MCG scent is Sideris.
It’s probably worth trying a sample to see which of the notes wins out on your skin. Maybe informally name it “Elephant versus Roses” and see which one wins. On my skin, it’s the elephant is the winner. :^D
Ha! 🙂
So sick with some rotavirus strain the girl brought home from school. (She is already fine, but me, on the other hand… ) Wearing Un Zest de Rose, which actually makes me feel a little better. Anything stronger would surely kill me.
Sorry to read it! Rotavirus can be a real bugger, hope you will get well soon.
Thank’s!
Feel better soon solanace.
Thank you!
Stomach bugs are a pain! You smell lovely, one of the few roses that will work with a wobbly digestive tract.
Rest and drink, drink and rest! Hope you’re back on track soon????
Ugh, so sorry! Feel better soon!
Oh dear, do get better!
Blech. Show that bug who’s the boss and feel better soon!
I’m sorry that dreadful virus is going through your home. I hope you feel better soon.
A cold and rainy day. I’m starting rose week with Mohur.
Extract or edp?
I have a sample of the EDP.
You smell lovely…
Thanks! ????
you smell beautiful. I need to get out my sample of this for this week.
Thanks! I’ve had my sample for a long time. It didn’t resonate with me when I first tried it – love it today. ????
My breathing’s been irritated lately, no doubt a result of the yellow dust blanket (aka pollen) here. Every spring I lose my ability to sing – like my vocal cords lose elasticity – and panic that it’s a permanent loss due to age, only to have it reappear mid-summer.
Anyway, holding off on scent today. Maybe later.
I’m telling myself the rain will wash away more pollen, and bribing myself to activity with shopping and/or lunch out. Also, a downpayment on the rest of the week’s (predicted) nice weather. Stay positive, folks.
Hang in there. I understand the panic you mention. A few years ago, noticed my voice leaving by the end of a work day. Tests revealed one vocal chord is ~80% paralyzed. No answers for why but I notice it gets worse during allergy season and winter, better in the summer. Attending social functions in a restaurant or any crowded location is so not fun when no one can hear you as you try to make conversation. Elevating your voice is simply not possible (my kids sort of love that though!). Google deep-dives reveal some promising therapies on the horizon so, indeed, stay positive! : )
Miriam is gorgeous today, usually it’s a bit too much and a bit too voluptuous for my liking, but sometimes the weather makes it perfect
Nice, I love it when something difficult “works”!
I wasn’t feeling chipper today either, and rose felt too vibrant, so I started out with Rose Jam bath products but topped it off bunch of Jasmin et Cigarette. Somehow J&C feels like it references both annoyance with the everyday, and simultaneously, distant carefree memories. Fiance surprised me with a bottle on Sunday, which was truly an amazing and thoughtful gift. Everything about the experience of wearing this scent right now is emotionally overwhelming and moving, as if it somehow captured my exact state of being.
I’ll bring it full circle by brewing a cup of Brambleberry Rose tea. Rose and jasmine belong together, after all.
<3 <3 <3
My feelings exactly 🙂
You smell wonderful and what a thoughtful gift! I like your description of the feel of the scent. It’s nice to be stirred that way.
Yep, it’s still cold out and eagerly waiting for it to get and stay warm. I was thinking Une Rose Vermeille today but just too cold and too much raspberry to be a great fit today. Tomorrow it will probably be a good fit. So it’s Amouage Epic today.
Robin,
I am like you this morning……so tired. Was just thinking about doing some kind of cleanse to see if that would help with my energy level.
My SOTD is Rose de Grasse by Aerin Lauder. I have drained the remainder of my bottle of this. I like this soooo much better than the Red Roses by JM that I wore yesterday. I received this bottle compliments of NST through one of the drawings. It is a beautiful scent, but the price tag is a bit pricey. I hate that it is all gone:(
Really enjoying the challenge this week. I was scouring through my samples last night trying to find fragrances for the rest of the week.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Ha, and I was just thinking of lying on the couch 😉
Rainy here and fits my mood fueled by 3.5 hours sleep. There’s a sort of glam to pulling all-nighters when you’re a 19 year old in college. Not so much when you’re a 41 y.o. in college. So today, I’m in Diesel Fuel for Life. Some days, you just need some simple sugar and cleaned-up patchouli.
Wow, good for you. Go get ’em Jenny! I haven’t been able to do all nighters in years. Well, unless it’s not by choice. 🙂
Really enjoying the idea of Rose week and seeing what everyone is wearing. Yesterday I wore Une Rose (FM), love how it takes you on a rose journey. Today it’s 4160Tuesdays Raw Silk and Red Roses, just glorious.
Tomorrow I may go a little more diaphanous with Elie Saab Rose Couture.
Oh, love Une Rose! I will have to see if I can fit that in this week.
It’s pouring rain here as well!
Today I’m wearing Carner Barcelona Costarela, their newest release. I was hoping it will bring some sun forward. The perfume did that indeed but the weather didn’t cooperate…
Dzień dobry Lucasai – tell us more about this one please! :^)
It’s a juicy citrus that quickly becomes very warm, it smells of hot sand, sunny day and slightly salty amber
Hmm, might need to try this. I like the idea of sand and salty amber, but citrus can be problematic on my skin. Although warm tones would suit me better than cool. Which corner of Barcelona is it meant to evoke – if any?
It’s cold and sunny and I’m adding to the spring brightness in a blinding orange sweater and Ostara.
you smell lovely. I will say, I was surprised at how sweet the dry down was on this, lots of vanilla (I enjoyed it!).
Ostara is now on sale in the actual Penhaligon stores after having been on sale online. It looks like the end which is so strange to me. It seems like the real winner of their line up so ending it is confusing.
Yep, they don’t have it on their website anymore, so that seems to be the sad case. 🙁
Rainy here, too! Yuck!
SOTD = Amouage Jubilation XXV
I was going to wear a rose-centric (or if I want to be chi-chi, “rose-forward”) perfume but reached for Jub XXV instead. It has rose as a note albeit not prominent because it has everything AND the kitchen sink! I have a large decant which will last me forever. I did not want to gas myself or those within 100 feet of me so only used barely 3 sprays. It quietesdown considerably 2 hours after application and had pretty much disappeared 5 hours later.
Gorgeous.
Thanks, C.H.!
Yum! I almost wore this today but it seemed a bit much. Perhaps tomorrow.
It’s better in cooler weather for sure!
house cousins
Yay! All but one of my Amouages are decants and many of them really start out strong and then fizzle out. My one FB is Sunshine which I really ought to wear before it gets too hot to wear!
Considerable restraint my friend! BTW, you get another enabler pin since I bought a bottle of Philosophy Fresh Cream based on your comments. Tell, me, how do you defy gravity by remaining in an upright position despite the weight of all those thousands and thousands of enabler pins?!? ????
She uses her 100 ml “samples” to keep herself grounded. 😉
🙂
I hope you like Fresh Cream — it is so easy to wear!
As to toppling over from the sheer weight of enabler pins, besides the tiara, I also have a beautifully tailored gold-trimmed bolero (with spaces for the pins) goes well with the tiara and the ballgown – i thought everyone has this ensemble? LOL
We should try wearing the same rose on Friday darling!
Are you thinking of Rose Velours?
Rose Velours or Rose Anonyme?
SL Rose de Nuit. After an exhausting weekend I had a nap yesterday and a good night’s sleep so I feel much more chipper than I did yesterday. Would love to get some Rose Nacrée du Désert but I already have so many rose fragrances I am having trouble justifying the cost. Maybe a decant will do…
This is one SL I have yet to smell for some reason but I’m sure I will really love it once I do. I want Rose Nacrée du Désert too!
I received a sample of Rose de Nuit from a lovely NSTer, which turned out to be as much a curse as a blessing: so beautiful, yet so unattainable to me!
I guess we’re cousins…SOTD La Fille de Berlin. It seems to be bringing some sun out here after a very rainy morning. It actually smells delicious and it was hidden in 3rd row behind other SLs lined up. I am “breathing deprived” today but luckily can still smell the roses.
You smell great!
Chanel No5 EDC with a few spritzes of A la Nuit. The jasmine brightens up the soapy, dirty, hairy rose and patch. Noice if I say so myself.
YSL Paris parfum again. Luggggsury.
Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. I suspect that things are fully as bad as I first estimated, but we’ll see. At least I slept last night.
So glad you slept. Take care. I know sometimes things just really are hard–will send you all the good wishes in dealing with whatever comes. Xo.
Sleep makes such a difference. You have an inner strength that will pull you through.
You smell great, and very glad to hear that you had a good night’s sleep. Take care.
Sorry to hear that! Not only did you sleep, but you smell Luggggsurious! Hoping that helps a bit ????
Sleep is good. At least you can deal when you’ve had sleep. Hope it stays that way…
Do continue to take care of yourself so you can face and conquer whatever challenges life may be throwing your way! All the best to you.
Oh no. Wishing you the strength you need to get through this, Mals.
Parfum Sacre which has enough rose to qualify as at least rose fragrance adjacent.
I am drinking some Zealong Organic Dark oolong tea from New Zealand. I am not sure I have gotten the correct brewing parameters for this, but it is pretty interesting (in a good way).
Are you wearing the vintage or modern PS? I’ve recently ordered samples of both and am curious which you prefer?
Oh, the vintage! Current formulation has not much on top, it’s good to use as a base for pretty flowery things that don’t last, IMHO, but the vintage is a deep rolling peal of beauty that goes on and on…
What a wonderful description. And PS is gorgeous, too.
I’ve got a sample of that tea. It sounded good on paper, my package says to use 13 grams for 1 liter of 95ºC water.
Oh and brew for 4 minutes.
Have you tried Harney and Sons tea? Some of their flavoured blends are good. The tea itself isn’t grown in NZ.
Dame Rose de Mai today. We’re off to take a break from work with some hiking at the local State Park so I didn’t want anything too heavy.
scent twins!
Ormonde Jayne Ta’if. Yesterday when mentally going through what roses I wanted to wear the rest of the week I was having trouble. There are too many good ones and not enough days!
I was thinking the same thing this morning. I have more than I realized and they are all so good!
I’m really on 9 days of rose now since I started during Sophia Grojsman week, really without meaning to. And I’m in the same boat — I’ll never fit them all in!
I just had a quick chance to check in. I’m so sorry so many people are feeling under the weather. It’s supposed to get nicer here in a few days. I had a chance early this morning to put on a bit of TDC Rose Poivree. The peppery civet rose is daring. It was Fresh Cream lotion, though, after the shower. Someday I will wear RP with people.
Failed to do rose again! Found my decant of Amber Oud, and had to give it a good try. I love this one. I think I still have a sample of Taif – maybe I will do that tomorrow…
you smell great.
Thanks!
I came across a well-hidden sample of Amber Oud yesterday, too. I stowed it in a more logical location for future testing – thanks for the reminder!
Yes, a logical plce for this is front and center!
Sampling Lace Garden today…
Reminds me of Ostara quite a bit. Tuberose is cited in some reviews but I am not getting that yet at least…more white and yellow florals…
I do smell a little tuberose now. I repeat…I am getting some tuberose now. 😉
I think yellow florals and I don’t get along perhaps…maybe that means ylang ylang and I are not friends specifically? not sure I know what ylang ylang smells like on its own but there is something in Ostara and in Lace Garden that does not please my nose and it may be the culprit.
I haven’t fully applied the Lace Garden scent. But, I will do that soon. I did take the top of the small sample I have, and it is a delightful scent.
Alahine has a hefty dose of ylang to my nose. I find it more of an ylang scent than an amber so if you liked Alahine, maybe it’s not the culprit? Although floral notes can smell very different in different compositions.
Perhaps it is not ylang then. I would define it as pond water-esque if pressed. 😉 Like flowers drifting towards decay.
I smell it in Ostara too. I did not smell Lace Garden and Ostara side by side though so my mind/nose may be overgeneralizing.
Did you try Alahine yet?
I liked Lace Garden & Oha so far, I am still sampling
I’ve tried Oha and Alahine and liked them both.
In general the line seems like a return to another era in perfumery…some might say old-fashioned 😉 but I think it has the feel of fragrances which came out in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
I am finding the line quite refreshing compared to the pink pepper, watered down patchouli, sugar bombs (often celebrity-licensed brands) you find at major department stores today. I do appreciate some of said sugar bombs but this line feels like a little time travel back to a more opulent time in fragrance and I am enjoying the journey.
I have the same feelings as you about the line, and about flower pink sugar bombs being released as well.
Keep us (or me) posted on your sampling so we can discuss!
Oha, for a chypre, is very well done in my opinion.
After my shower today, and Lyric seemed to die down, I put on Alahine.
Yes, I liked Oha quite a bit…reminds me of something my aunt wore in the 70s/80s. I like chypres in general.
Both Oha and Alahine were interesting to me throughout the day and kept my mind active. I didn’t find Lace Garden as interesting to my nose and mind today.
I don’t know what I would do without perfume to sniff thoughout the day…makes me happy and keeps me engaged when often times at work I want to check out…mentally if not physically. It also makes me wonder what people who are not into perfume are doing w/ their senses of smell all day if that makes sense. I’m constantly sniffing and assessing. 😉
I’m with you on the tired front and am on my second large cup of coffee which doesn’t seem to be having the desired effect this morning.
I have slim pickins with perfume choices since most of my collection is in my old apt. I brought a couple of decants and my bottle of Dune which is decidedly unrosy but always a love for me and is my SOTD.
Another sample bits the dust: I’m wearing the last drops I had of JM Red Roses. I agree with whoever commented yesterday: it is a good layering scent. When I still had a sample of Blackberry and Bay, a sprtiz of Red Roses worked really well with it.
The RR bath oil is so lovely, and this is coming from a non-rose lover…
I’m very tempted by one of these bath oils… That glass bottles are so pretty too! If only I had a large and elegant bathroom to fit… 😉
I just bought the Red Roses body cream, didn’t think to look for the bath oil. Next time!
*bites
I need some coffee too!
And this was supposed to be with my first comment! :/
I did the same thing. :{
My SOTD is FM Une Rose. From a TPC rose sampler, so I’m set for the rest of the week, too.
you smell incredible.
This is on my list for this week too. I’m excited!
There must be something in the air today! I also woke up on the wrong side of the bed and was sorely tempted to stay there. Dragged my butt to work though and my only goal is to do no harm today.
No rose today, as I absolutely needed Eau des Merveilles for comfort.
Good goal. Luckily I don’t operate heavy machinery at work. EdM has a nice reviving quality. Hope it helped!
I don’t know what I’m wearing today. Just before I left the house I grabbed a rollerball, saw Annick Goutal on it, and rolled it lavishly (or as lavish as you can be with a rollerball). I couldn’t see the name of the perfume anywhere. At this point, mid-day, there isn’t much left to identify it. I thought I smelled pretty good this morning, though.
Ooh, mystery scent! ????
Sampling Twill Rose today. One word for the opening- Wow! I think I might have actually said that when I smelled my wrist, lol. If you like FM PoaL, give this a try. Would be divine on a man too, just sayin’????
Hmmm, I may have seen Twill Rose at Marshalls today!
Seriously?!! Parfums de Rosine at Marshall’s would be a huge score! My Marshall’s is a complete waste of time…????
I must have misread…oerhaps there are other perfunes with the word twill!
Wearing Coty’s La Rose Jacqueminot today. Rainy and dim and sleepy and slow. Two coffees and an Earl Grey down; who knows how many more to go?
Took myself out for afternoon tea, topped off with coconut layer cake. Probably 2500 calories, but I haven’t harmed myself or anyone else yet, so worth it I guess. 🙂
Sounds good to me 🙂
Mmm, coconut layer cake!!
My thought exactly! ????
I believe it is an essential food group!
Hoo boy, I rhymed. Sort of.
It scans. 🙂
Woo hoo! 😀
It’s been a totally banal morning so far, involving grey and gloomy weather and the washing machine giving out in the middle of a rinse cycle, so… it had to be Lyric. 🙂 Now my morning is sublime, at least fragrance-wise!
scent twins
Rose week prompted me to dig out my sample of OJ Ta’if. I’m always wondering if I should have bought Ta’if instead of Champaca. I think I can stop fretting. Ta’if would be very interesting to me if the structure of the top notes persisted and if it weren’t drowned out by high tension line hum of too much Iso E Super. Of course, too much Iso E Super for me might be just right for you. 😉
It seems the more one smells this horrid molecule the more sensitive you become to it. It is annoying and horrid.
I retried PHI this morning, and I still get a lot of rose out of it. But it was a mistake to try something new and heavier before my workout, because by the time I was in the height of my workout and I needed air, I felt like I was drowning in a vat of thick resiny patchouli amber stuff that actually smelled a lot like what I remember Shalimar smelling like. It might have smelled good, but I’m afraid I’ve ruined it by experience now!
I’m in Tocade. I was going to take advantage of today’s lower temperature and wear a dab of Nahema or Rose de Nuit, but I’m way too congested to justify taking any from my vials, which I found are running dangerously low. So Tocade.
Lots of frustrating and expensive but not tragic problems to solve today…. grrrrrrrrr… in Lyric because I forgot I was going to wear Mohur… The spicy resiny Lyric is working just fine. I think of this as a rose scent, but I wonder if that is just the power of suggestion. If it was marketed as a cinnamony ylang-ylang and geranium scent, I’d categorize it that way…
For some reason when I wear Lyric, I smell a lot of ginger. I don’t have the best nose though. In any case, you smell great. Hope it helps with your problem solving.
scent twins! Lots of lyric today
Decided to copycat and try out my (gifted) sample of vintage rose (from 2012, according to the vial). It’s complex and intriguing to this non-rose lover.
QUESTION: I am considering getting the Histoires de Parfums sampler (19$ + 10% off today), is it worth it? The ELDO was certainly worth the 14$, does this compare?
I think it’s a HdP is a house with good quality scents. Those that I tried last all day on my skin but I only tested a few of their offerings. It really just comes down to personal taste IMHO.
I had the same dilemma! Were you shopping the Sephora event, per chance? I ended up going with the HdP sampler. ????
I’m wearing Queen’s sister Queen of Hearts today. I like it. It’s a bit on the sweet side, but not excessively so (ymmv, of course). It seems like it was fairly sweet through the middle of its development but seems to be getting a bit drier and incensier as it dries down. It’d describe it as a spicy, slightly fruity amber. It’s kind of reminding me of something else (maybe more than one something else), but I can’t put my finger on what exactly. The amber/patchouli is kind of reminding me of Reem Acra a bit (but without the orange blossom), but occasionally it kind of makes me think of SL Cedre a bit (sans tuberose), but there is a plummy note that makes me think of several other perfumes, like Feminite du Bois, Agent Provocateur L’Agent and TF Plum Japonaise.
I think it would layer really nicely with a leather.
Hey, thanks for the info! I have been keeping my eyes peeled for this one since I enjoyed Queen so much. The “plummy note” is calling my name. I may just order from Amazon- I think it’s $10 and free shipping. The incense in the dry down appeals to me as well. Hmmm….is Donatella looking? ????
Eh $10… I don’t think Donatella will notice 😉
Morning, all. There’s something going on all over the world–I too am knackered, strung out and just plain exhausted. Unlike the rest of you, though, I have no particular reason to be so tired. I’m just getting old, I guess. Anyhow, I chose Lyric today: plenty enough rose for the week’s project, and it gives me something to live up to. If I didn’t wear it, or something of its ilk, I suspect I would slob around all day doing very little rather slowly. As it is, I’m wrapped in lyric’s complicated embrace, and the scent of rose and incense is drifting on the air all around me, so I’m mindful of my posture and gait and that I need to Make An Effort and Rise To The Occasion, etc, etc. I’d prefer to put my delicious-smelling self into clean jim jams and go back to bed, though!
scent twins!
Put on a bit of Balenciaga L’eau Rose this morning that I had from a sample, thinking it was a rose fragrance. Had to look at the review to find out that it is actually more of a violet. Pretty pleasant, one of the only violets that I think I might like to own. Very hard to find now–must have been discontinued. Oh, well.
On another note, does anyone know if spraying perfume in a flower bed will keep a dog from digging in it? We have some new rose beds and one of our dogs has been digging, which has my husband fit to be tied. I wouldn’t mind using some unloved frags there if I thought it would help. Any ideas?
I’ve heard of that as an anti-deer measure, maybe it works on canines too–worth a try!
Try Demeter Zombie Dog … It might scare away the dog. But seriously…when my dogs start digging up the lawn I fill the hole with their dog poo and it stops them. So you could lightly bury some around the roses and see if that works. Unpleasant but effective.
I just got back from being a chaperone for a 2nd grade field trip to the Crayola museum/experience. OMG. The joy, the tears, the screaming, the smell of hot wax!!! SOTD to help me make it through: Cartier So Pretty edp.
Sounds like an experience!!
It was! I’d like to take my daughter back again sometime I’m not trying to watch a bunch of kids. Crayons are cool anyway. It’s neat to see how they are made.
My goodness, that was brave. But in a good way. Hope you have a nice quiet evening.
I am having a nice quiet evening – add some aspirin and tea, and I’m OK now.
I’m glad So Pretty got you through the experience 🙂
It did! I could smell myself all day, and it is still going strong 9 hours later! It is one of my fav roses and I don’t wear it as much as I should. I consider it a moment of genius this morning when I realized it was the fragrance I should wear for such a day.
God Bless You!
I think managing tons of kids is kind of like white water rapids, you have to just go for it and enjoy the ride. I had a great bunch so it was fun.
I recently discovered So Pretty and I lurv it. Wore it last night and had to keep sniffing my wrist. Sad it is discontinued.
I do not own any rose soliflores but Tea Rose. Many fragrances I love have a prominent rose note. Tocade, EL Knowing, Aromatic Elixirs, to name a few. Today it is rainy and chilly so the first CDG for me layered with Tea Rose equals clove infused, spicy rose.
Mm, that sounds nice.
Left the house this morning without perfume – too indecisive. Fortunately, I have some emergency backup perfumes at work and have applied, and will re-apply, Dioressimo and pretend it’s not a grey day.
Aluminum foil over the windows helps.
I’m not doing rose week. SOTD is Iris Nazarena. Yesterday I wrote in discussion with Jenkr that I don’t find it carroty at all. And today, the moment I sprayed – yep, it’s there, carrots. It lasted just a few seconds, probably evaporating with the alcohol. Why haven’t I detected it before? It might be that I noticed it today because I was looking for it, or it is the weather that has brought the carroty aspect forward. Anyway, another trick of perfume perception.
And I’m in trouble, because I really love this perfume. Naturally, I cannot afford a bottle, and I don’t *need* it, but I don’t want to get a decant. Because this darned bottle is just as gorgeous as the scent!
Yesterday was my first hat and gloves walk of the year and today seems just as cold. I wore New Musk yesterday but much as I want to like it, I don’t. It is cloying on me. So, back to Kyoto today, maybe. Not sure yet.
Hi, Kanuka. Not yet anywhere near hat and gloves weather up here, but for sure, autumn is advancing towards winter in one of those incomprehensible five-steps-forward, circle, curtsey, three-steps-back dances. Progress is slow, but perceptible, in other words. Good. I’m finished with summer. I’m going to Whanganui on Friday, and I’m looking forward to the difference in temperature as we head south. It feels as though leaving the city will be good for my soul. I think all the deciduous trees along the Parapara will have coloured up, and that will be pretty to see. I want to take warm, friendly, uplifting perfumes with me (visiting the mother-in-law), but right now I’m too tired to think if them. Something will suggest itself on the day…
Hi Florence! It sounds like you have been so busy with work this term. Goodness me, Melbourne must seem like a dream island that you can hold onto, and visualise as getting closer every day. I hope Whanganui goes well. One of my best friends has just moved there (the artist with perfume eyes bigger than her belly) so I keep planning a trip north, taking in the Len Lye gallery in NP. I’ve been enjoying Ys.Uzac Lale. It’s a soapy lemon and very calming with a glint of yellow light. It’s kind of breezy, too but restful and requires little effort. I am wearing my hat indoors! Student habits die hard.
He “Florenced” me last night, but was otherwise very gracious, as a great man should be to a mere minion….we enjoyed some conversation about Bismarck and mortality rates in women in the 19th century, about which I know very little, but more now than I did before 6.30 last evening!
Knowledge of both those topics will come in handy when you have to make small talk with your MIL. I think a mention of the mortality rate could be a real ice breaker.
I’m wearing Chanel No. 5 EDP today. I know its well blended, but there is rose in there.
Now, I’m finishing a cup of Blueberry & Elderflower White Tea, and about to start cooking a pot of chicken fricasse.
My son moved out from our home about a month ago, and he is coming over for dinner tonight. I have to make one of his favorites.
Have fun with the offspring! I miss my oldest so much when she’s at college. (It’s okay that she doesn’t miss me to that degree. 😉 )
Thanks! He and his fiancee just left.
It was weird when he came over, he rang the doorbell, and waited for us to answer the door. A month ago, he would have just used his key.
SotD is JM Red Roses from a sample spritzer. Red Roses is lovely rose-rose-rose with a gently emphatic demeanor.
I’ve just realized that the last time I remember using this sample was during April 2015. It’s hard to believe I’ve spent several years enjoying fragrance in a more than casual way. Thanks, NST!
Roses and I haven’t really clicked, but I do have some samples to go thorough. Today was Le Labo 31. Its very faint and not long lasting on me.
Andy Tauer Lonesome Rider. Is it a rose perfume? Yes. There is a lot of rose, to the extent that it smells like main component somewhere in the middle of wearing.
I didn’t realize we were doing roses all week, but I fit in anyway. I wore Rosa Alba today; I got this in a swap some time back but have never worn it much.
I am feeling quite tired myself. The plumbers got finished today with the repairs on our sewer. It had backed up three times in the last five months, so we had to bite the bullet and get two sections replaced where the tree roots had gotten into it. After all the $$$$ I just spent, it had better work for a long time to come!
