It's Almost-Friday, and William Morris was born on this day in 1834. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing La Via del Profumo Tawaf. I smell pretty fantastic for someone who's barely awake.
Reminder: 3/25 will be Picture challenge, edition 1. Wear a perfume that matches the picture. We're staring off with Max Ernst, The Nymph Echo, 1936. (you can find larger versions here and here, and you can read the story from Greek mythology about Echo on Wikipedia.) (someone suggested the picture challenge, raise your hand if it was you!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: image is Chrysanthemum pattern by William Morris.
Eau de Gaga (Lady Gaga).
Have a feeling we will not see a 3rd scent from her…
Snagged this at TJMaxx over the weekend for all of $7.99. I had to choose between this one and Fame, and they weren’t far apart on the price.
Wow, bargain!
I quite like Fame, but you have to be careful of the black fluid, because it does stain.
I’ve seen that one at around too, either at TJ Maxx or Marshall’s, and I’m curious to know what you think of it. I kind of shied away from buying it blind because violet leaf doesn’t always work for me.
I wouldn’t be afraid of it at all, it settles down very quickly. I really like it, and it could be one of those fragrances that you don’t have to think twice about wearing.
Hermes Eau de Cologne aka Eau d’Orange Verte.
Orange and basil, then oakmoss and musk, finally pencil shavings cedarwood.
All within 30 minutes, a harbinger of warm weather. 🙂
Yum. I keep meaning to go buy some of the OV body products.
Why I haven’t yet acquired more than a 1 ml sample of this one, I have no idea. It’s so good!
That sounds nice.. and reminds me, I think I have a sample of it that I haven’t tried yet.
True story: OV was the first exposure I had to ‘serious’ perfumes, as a complementary EDT, soap and shampoo in a hotel in Frankfurt in the year 2000. More than 10 years later I came across the remnants, got a FB and another of Un Jardin sur le Nil in an airport. Looking for a replacement online, I came upon the Hermessences series, and a false report that Vetiver Tonka was being discontinued brought me to NST *and all that implies!* :^)
I love this one. An ideal refresher.
Lace Garden
Posting and jetting to a doctors appt.
Hope it goes well!
You smell great.
I love the imagery of that title. Have a good appointment!
Everything is turning normal again, so the doctor says!
Had a weird autoimmune thing with my foot when I became pregnant (so painful they had to pull me out of work just to give you an idea) and now after giving birth its finally starting to look normal again. I haven’t been able to wear normal shoes since July of last year.
Celebrating with this beautiful Lace Garden fragrance and I see some shoe shopping in my future.
Goodness – so glad to hear that it’s getting better! I’ve had weird foot issues as well, and especially in this city, it can be SO inconvenient.
Exactly! Because you walk everywhere 😀
Happy your foot is returning to normal and shoe shopping is always fun!
There has never been a better excuse to buy shoes. Glad you’re getting back on you feet (get it?).
Good news! I have a chronic foot issue that either requires surgery, or being doomed to low heeled “comfort” shoes. So far I’ve taken the latter route and miss wearing heels 🙁
So, is there some trick to wearing heels and walking in them? Only thing that seems to work for me is to wear them 1/2 size too small so my toes are already scrunched up. Otherwise, if they fit, they fall off when I take normal size steps. I *always* feel ungraceful in heels, no matter how pretty they are! (And before you suggest it, I’ve tried every variation of putting little gel thingys in them to supposedly make them more comfortable, etc! 🙂 )
Mary-Jane heels or duct tape 😉
Heels can be over rated, there are a lot of cute flats out there now..thats what I keep telling myself.
I keep telling myself that, too 😉 Actually, they are making much more stylish comfort shoes these days but they’re often really pricey so I don’t buy shoes that often anymore. Summer is the best because sandals!
I read Kevin’s review of Tawaf you linked to and wow, you do smell good. I will have to try that one.
I’m in Dior Homme today. I had a sample of this over a year ago and loved it and recently *almost* bought a bottle, but then thought I should test it again. So I got a sample from Sephora and yes, I still love this and it’s still one of the absolute best iris perfumes I’ve tried. Time to get that bottle now.
It’s pretty fantastic. I’d buy it if I could afford it.
I just splurged on the tiny 15ml bottle… Lovely stuff, maybe someday I will get a bigger one, but then again, 15mls will probably last me a few years.
I am officially jealous!
Has there ever been a “man’s perfume I love to wear ( as a woman) ‘ post? I would find that really interesting.

Thankyou
The Body Shop’s discontinued Neroli Jasmin oil. I am almost categorically not a white floral person, but this doesn’t smell like a white floral to me. It’s warmth is almost ambery, in a sense, and I love it. Why would they discontinue something so pretty?
Could we write a book on that topic, lol?! Chapter 2: Why would they reformulate something so pretty? 😉 Neroli and jasmine always smell like spring to me.
I wish they would write a book, or an article, or *something* that explains why.
P.S. – My sample-making supplies have arrived and I am excited to FINALLY be able to send everyone I had promised things to (Jenkr, Petunia, AnnS) as soon as I return from visiting my family for Easter. I apologize for how long it takes me to get these things out, but I promise to include extra goodies in your packages!
And JJLook too!
Where did you get your supplies from?
I believe it was Hajusuuri that told me about the AFF (Accessories for Fragrance) Web Shop, which I have now ordered from twice. Not affiliated of course, but the products appear to be good. The only problem I seem to have thus far is making my labels (homemade from Avery labels) stick to the little bottles. What does everyone else use?
I have one of those handheld label maker machines. You can get a decent one for fairly cheap and the refill paper isn’t expensive either.
I’ll most likely be ordering some decant supplies after the holiday.
I have one of those label makers too, and I love it. I think it was only around $20 or $25 at Target. Accessories for Fragrance is a very good source for decanting supplies. The spray vials are good quality and reasonably priced.
I put Scotch tape over the Avery labels.
I am just having to put in a new order for lots of decanting bottles b/c of the swapmeet!
Ann where do you get your decant supplies? If ordered small amounts from several different places, but would like to settle on one or a few. If this is too specific info for general disribution, please email me- my username at gmail is still my email….
Bestbottles.com has good stuff, although there is a $50 order minimum.
SKS bottles is good too but you have to be willing to buy larger quantities (e.g. the 3,5 and 10 mLs come in 48 count boxes). I have been eyeing best bottles but the twisty 10mLs have been out os stock since forever.
SublimiSomium sent me a link to an Amazon seller. The 10mL splits I got from her came in these super cute atomizers!
I’d have to go back and look it up. I got kind of frustrated last time b/c I didn’t want hundreds of bottles. I found a vendor through Amazon dot com that worked out pretty well. I have to look it up…. I’ll get back to you…..
OK , just checked. two vendors on amazon magnakoy and riverrun have different decanting supplies. I apparently ordered from both of them – the one I got 10 ml glass sprayers and the other I got 3 ml screw top glass vials. I can order in smaller quantities from them so I liked it.
My first swap box arrived, so I put on some Bombay Bling this morning (just a small amount!). Thank you to the generous swapper. 🙂
Since I did not know who William Morris was, I followed the link and read the Wikipedia bio on him. Wow, what a renaissance man he was: textile designer, poet, socialist and much more. Love the chrysanthemum textile pictured, Robin.
yes, I wasn’t familiar with him either. I clicked on the link, and read his bio and his wife’s bio. Very fascinating.
I’m a William Morris fan…not so much that I’d paper my house or anything, I just like looking at the pictures 🙂
I love William Morris, and the Arts & Crafts movement, Liberty as well, such exquisite design!
Yes to all of this! I love looking at pictures, it’s why I am a total time wasting success on Pinterest 🙂
Agreed. I always chose different patterns as “wallpapers” for my computer.
I love Wm Morris as well. His quote “Have in your life only that which you know to be useful and believe to be beautiful” is one of my guidelines for living a reasonable life…
And what could be more useful and beautiful than perfume! He must have been a fan.
Love William Morris–my house is furnished in the arts and crafts style…I collect art pottery and have used it as the inspiration for color, furniture and fabric choices. Also can’t resist a Liberty of London paisley print….
It is a lovely style, managing to be both coherent and ‘livable’ in the 21st century. Some of how I decorated out (much more modest) house was inspired by Wightwick Manor, the classic William Morris decorated house in Wolverhampton.
And here’s the disgraceful thing that seems to hold true the world over: I’ve never been to Wightwick Manor, which can’t be more than 45 minutes from my house. I have seen more historic buildings the other side of the world than in my next door town. Friends in other countries often confess to the same. (Perhaps they are just saying it to make me feel better though!)
You are not alone–I’m sorry to admit that I have never been to Craftsman Farm, home of Gustav Stickley (major furniture designer for the Arts and Crafts movement in the USA) and it is only about an hour away. I promise myself this spring I will make the pilgrimage!
Also a fan, and that chrysanthemum print is gorgeous. I’d love to have WM wallpaper and a scarf or two and an umbrella and …
What do you think of Bombay Bling? I had a sample a while back and thought it was a fun scent.
It’s cheerful, loud, and pretty. My sample has been gone for a good long while, and I was delighted to score a decant in the swap. I would never be able to use up a whole bottle, but nothing is better for a fun night out.
Love Bombay Bling! It is one of the happiest perfumes I’ve ever worn.
Half asleep and in Natori today. Robin, thanks for reminding me that I need to get my hands on a sample of Tawaf like yesterday! I put on a few sprays of A la Nuit a couple nights ago at bedtime and it was wonderful. The cats were extremely cuddly then as well, so they must really like jasmine, too. 🙂
Natori is so gorgeous. I love when I’ve put on a fragrance that will last overnight and I can smell it when I wake up.
Just gave my mom a bottle of Natori for her birthday – it’s a great affordable scent.
You’re my twin then…for sleep, at least!
You smell lovely.
❤️ Natori.
I fell ridiculously, head over heels in love when a wonderful NSTer sent me a sample when it first launched, and have been hooked ever since. I think I’m on at least bottle number three but it could be four, and we’re talking the 100ml size. 😉
While I’ve been trying to go easy on backup bottles in general over the years, I won’t say how many Natori products and bottles I’ve been squirreling away. Truly, if I had to contemplate giving up all but five of my perfumes, it would definitely be in that group.
So baffled and sad it’s been discontinued and replaced with a generic fruity floral as the lingerie line’s pillar frag.
Does that mean that the Natori I bought last year isn’t the good stuff?
If the bottle is deep purple with a clear glass “navel,” then you have the original.
Divine Spirituelle, one of the loveliest, softest roses there is.
It is! You smell lovely.
Mm, you smell great!
You smell great. I think Divine is totally underappreciated as a house. Their prices are good, and L’Ame Soeur is so a desert island scent for me. Love the original Divine, too.
I just ordered samples of L’Ame Soeur and L’Inspiratrice. There are so many from this line that I haven’t tried yet.
Hope you’re all recovered for your Sunday choir performances!
Still coughing a bit, but yes I am much better, thank you! 🙂
Bottega Venata from my new swap (thanks!). Lots of lovely leather. We have a winner!
*Veneta
Love BV! It is a great scent.
I got my bottle from last year’s swapmeet 🙂 it’s become my favorite go to scent.
SL Santal Blanc, because someone yesterday wore it and that put it into my mind. It’s perfect.
I rediscovered Santal Blanc recently and I am in love, you smell great.
Someone checking in !!!! LOL 😉
Gypsy Water. Morning cup of joe and getting ready to brave our 2 feet of snow from yesterday so I can get to work. It’s hard to find a place to walk the pup!
2 feet of snow is quite a thing to brave. Best wishes!
Ohhhh yuck…..at least you know it won’t last long in the spring.
Yikes! Can’t say I’m envious. Hope your commute isn’t too difficult.
Ugh!
Yikes! Bet the pup will love it though.
You smell great!!
Inspired by your sotd, I’m also in Gypsy Water! Mmmmmmm
I’m wearing Bvlgari au the Bleu today.
I’m also drinking a cup of Teavana Opus Rouge, which I just found out was discontinued.
Last week I posted about my dog being sick. Based on his liver levels, the doctor suspected liver cancer. We brought him to the veterinary hospital last week, but his tests were inconclusive. He has tumors, but they are not sure whether they are benign or cancerous. They recommend a biopsy next. We are not sure what to do. A liver biopsy in an 11-year old dog is major surgery. There is a clinic in a nearby city which does laparoscopic biopsies, which is a lot less invasive. The price is $2,000.
I think I am going to get a second opinion on this.
When we brought the dog, his usual doctor wasn’t there. She is back now and I am going to try to schedule a consultation with her early next week, when both my daughter and my husband are in town.
Barqs, I’m really sorry to hear that. We’re facing a similar issue with one of our pups–seizures that could be evidence of a brain tumor. It sucks. I agree with getting the second opinion, and be sure to ask how the results of the biopsy, if you got it, would affect your dog’s treatment plan. I don’t think there’s much point in subjecting your pup to the pain of surgery if a positive result would just lead to a “chemo but it probably won’t work” option.
Good luck Barqs, what a difficult decision for u, and I know how traumatic this whole process is, especially for you’re daughter. Hope things work out for the best for you’re poor woof.
Such a hard decision to have to make, and to wait for your family to be there with you sounds like a good idea. I second Doc Sinister’s ideas about risk vs benefit. It’s still very hard when it’s your beloved family member. The field I work in brings these choices to the forefront and I’m a witness to this struggle on a regular basis. There’s often no “right” answer. Hoping you find the clarity you need.
I guess inconclusive is better than learning that it’s cancer for sure. I agree with getting a second opinion. And ask what the treatment would be for benign tumors, as opposed to cancerous tumors. I feel for you in having an older dog, and having to deal with their health problems. I’m in the process of adopting my foster dog, who is 8, and already has problems with his back leg. The shelter is going to send him for an ortho consult before I adopt, but I’m a little worried about the years ahead of me. Still, I love him too much to not keep him, and given his history, he really deserves to have the remainder of his life be in a home that loves him.
I was wondering how you and your dog were. I agree with Doc Sinister about asking how the results will be useful. I know how hard this kind of thing is and I hope things turn out well.
Good luck with such a difficult decision!
I am so sorry about this, hoping for a good outcome for your beloved doggy.
Oh I am so sorry.
I hope the second opinion brings better news and I wish you the strength and fortitude to get through this and tough decisions which may follow.
I sympathize so much with what you are going through. I had to make similar end-of-life decisions when my cat died several years ago. In the end she died quickly anyway, and when it was over I felt that I had been too quick to spend a fortune because I loved her and was grasping at straws. It’s hard to say how I would have felt if she had lived, of course, and your dog’s prognosis may be better. And I hope this doesn’t sound callous – but I guess what I wish someone had said to me at the time was, “It’s okay not to spend the money. You gave your pet a wonderful life, and it’s okay to let go when the cost is too high.” So I just want to say that whatever you decide, it doesn’t mean you love your dog any less! And you should not feel guilty either way you decide to go. You have all my sympathy for what you are going through!
I’m so sorry about your dog, Barqs, and I agree with what others have said about getting a second opinion. And I agree with Regina, financial aspects have to be considered, too.
I’ve lost my dog to lymphoma last summer, and the doctors were only able to diagnose it post mortem. They actually did a laparoscopic biopsy, and the results were inconclusive. I do not regret it, as there still was hope at the moment of this procedure, but when later they suggested doing a CT scan (which also involves general anaesthesia) I decided it was too much. And I also knew that I wouldn’t go for a chemo even if it was suggested. These decisions are the worst, I wish I hadn’t had to make them (wish nobody ever had to). You want to fight ’till the end, but sometimes you have to admit you can’t win. What you can do is bathe your pet in all the love and tenderness you have, no matter if you have years or months left.
Anyway, wish you luck and hope everything turns out well!
I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. We’ve got a elderly cat, so these things are looming large for me, too. Regina describes it very well, and it also matters how well a pet handles going to the vet. I decided against any aggressive treatment for my last cat because she was so terrified of visiting the vet – I didn’t want her to spend her last months frightened.
Thank you all for the kind words. It was all so helpful.
Liver cancer is one of the more operable types. I had a cat who lived 4 years after surgery.
I’m reading this a day late but I wanted you to know I’m thinking of you and your pup. When we had the biopsy done on our dog and it came back that it was cancer we weighed the options and took his age into consideration and opted to just keep him comfortable. If we had done the radiation and stuff they said we might get 6 months. It seemed like a lot of torture for a little time. We ended up having him with us for almost a year and our vet said we did the right thing. The biopsy he had wasn’t really invasive either so your situation is different. Whatever decision you make, know that it’s the right one for you and your pet. Hopefully you’ll get to see your regular vet soon and be able to form a plan.
Another cheap thrill for me, Demeter’s Beeswax. I love honey.
Nice! I should try that one.
I love this one too!
Last sprays of my sample of L’Orpheline. Absolutely heavenly. I can’t wait for it to be less thsn $100 at the discounters.
That one is heavenly. I’ve been scouting for that too.
I should NOT have worn this one today. I forgot how much I loved it. Now I feel sad.
Please send me your address, I have a small decant of it I would be happy to send you. You can email me at my user name at me dot com.
wow, thank you so much! I’m responding right now. ????
VCA Bois d’Iris, one of those beauties that I always forget about.
What’s the silage and lasting power of this one like?, Iris is one of my favourite notes.
It lasts very well, but it’s a quiet scent. It’s a gourmand iris.
Thanks, I’ll put it on my sniff list for when I go in to London.
VCA is often under appreciated I think. They have some beautiful scents.
They do. From the VCA CE I also really enjoyed Gardénia Pétale and Orchidée Vanille. They are hard to try where I live.
From their main collection the only one I’m really familiar with is First.
I have carded samples of both of these ones, and am looking forward to trying them now!
Lumière noire today, and seriously wondering about tomorrow’s challenge, what is more difficult: the picture itself or Echo’s personal drama? In any case I’m looking forward to some major statement scents listed here
I don’t know. I hope I did not pick a particularly hard image. I thought I’d done the opposite but maybe not!
There are SO many ways to interpret this pic in fragrance! I’m looking forward to seeing where everyone takes it….I have some ideas…. 🙂
I like the idea of doing a second gen fragrance, like Flowerbomb is the echo of Angel, or something similar.
Parfum de la journée: Nina Ricci L’Air du Temps.
Tea of the day: Forgettaboutit. Mountain Dew. 44oz on crushed ice.
Jam of the day: Cage the Elephant’s Mess Around.
Let’s do this! 🙂
LOL! I had a “tea of the day” on Tues called Pepsi with crushed ice. It helped me make it through the day.
Heeheehee! Thanks for the laugh 🙂
Well, you have your caffeine intake covered!
There you go. That’s just pure caffeine over ice. Take on the world!
J’aime bien L’air du Temps.
Mais non!
J’adore L’air du Temps. 😉
Oui! Oui! 🙂
Bvlgari Omnia Paraiba today.
How do you like this Kyril? I just briefly smelled it the other day when I was going through Macys. I thought it was pretty good.
When I first put it on this morning, my first impression was “GRAPEFRUIT!!”. Luckily, I like grapefruit. . . It calmed down pretty quickly to a soft, yummy citrus, but was gone about 4 hours later. I just reapplied after lunch, and the grapefruit note isn’t as strong, and it’s still yummy! It goes very subtle on me fairly quickly, but that seems to be an Omnia thing, at least on me; Amethyste and Crystalline do the same thing.
Am tempted to buy this blind in the jewel bottle, if I ever find it.
I do like their bottles. . .
Sampling from a generous NSter’s package today. After reading about the monolithic Iris in Iris silver Mist, I have finally tried it!
Definite love for me, I adored the carroty, vegetal opening, and then its slightly spicy for the next hour or two, but becomes a very soft skin scent within the hour. Could hardly smell it after 3 hours.
So I won’t be buying a full bottle, but maybe a decant at some point. I think the recently sampled Après L’ondee lasted slightly longer on my skin, and I will acquire a bottle of that one next year.
Now sampling Cuir de Russie edt, which is wonderful.
Irisy heaven today!
That does sound like iris-y heaven!
Lyric Woman–the very last of my sample. I’ll have to make up a little decant from my FB to carry with me.
It is such an accomplishment to finally drain a sample or decant! It’s very good you have a bottle.
I was walking past some flowering trees this morning and caught a wiff of something wonderful. For a few minutes I was puzzled, thinking that ornamental cherries and pears could not possibly smell so good, when I realized it was me – I had sprayed on a bit of Ostara earlier in the morning. So pretty (although it doesn’t last long at all).
LOL!
I wore that yesterday for the first time. Happily it seemed to last well on me, which is unusual. It is lovely.
Hurray for Ostara, so lovely.
I will wear it for the challenge tomorrow.
Was thinking of wearing Ostara as well but may interpret the picture, myth, names, whatever in a totally unexpected direction!
I’m in BV Eau Legere, and running horribly late. May have to skip blush or eye shadow or something. 😉
Lol, drastic measures must be taken!
Red lipstick and Go!
Onda extrait for me today. It’s very drizzly today, and Onda is a very wet green to me, although without any of that awful calone note, so I match the day. I also think I match this week’s painting, because Onda is a a little menacing.
I have been wracking my brain thinking of what I have that would match that picture and I think you have hit on it.
Onda!!
That was my first thought for the painting too, though I need to check my samples and see if I still have any. Might have to go with something else if I don’t.
Oh this reminded me that I had an as yet untested Onda EDP sample and I am trying it now. Love. So thank you!
In The Americans news (spy show set in the early ’80s), we learned last night that young Henry trails a wake of Ralph Lauren in an effort to impress his teacher.
I’m in the decidedly non-’80s Eau Premiere.
You smell very good! Who wasn’t trailing Polo in the 80s!?
Exactly.
I was protesting the Polo wave by wearing Chanel Pour Monsieur.
What a rebel I was!
Remarkable. I wish I could get in a way back machine and buy 2 bottles of Pour Monsieur….
Hah! Now I’m wondering what Philip wears when he’s Clark. (Don’t tell me! I’ve only finished the first two seasons.)
That’s a good question. Wonder what Clark would wear…
Love The Americans! Since I don’t have cable anymore, I was happy to find out that it’s on Amazon Prime and Hulu now.
I’m wearing MFK Absolue Pour le Matin today.
Rose 31 shower gel and lotion. Don’t even need to top it off with the edp.
Enjoy this beautiful day y’all.
You smell great! I haven’t gone down the rabbit hole of the Le Labo bath products yet, but I fear it is in my future.
Amy, if you’re in the US, you can usually find them on evilbay. This way you can try the 1.4 or 3.0 ounce bottles of gel or lotion without such a big investment. Warning: They are darn good. In fact, I was in a Le Lebo shop recently and the rep there said that of all their scents, Rose 31 translated best when they formulated the bath products.
Thanks for the heads up!
The Iris 39 shower gel is super luxurious.
Tauer Une Rose Chyprée today. Feeling cheered by a change at work; I’m being asked to swap a hated task for a hankered-after one that I truly, truly love. No need to ask me twice!
Very cool – good for you!
Thanks! I’m so excited to start.
Congrats! Isn’t it nice to enjoy going to work for a change? 🙂
It is! I can already feel my creative tendrils stirring…
I love it when that happens! And I love Une Rose Chyprée too.
I’m thinking the two will always be linked for me now!
Maybe that fabulous perfume you are wearing swayed the work gods . . .
Might be so! I will count among my feel-good power perfumes now…
Chilly, pouring rain today so I’m wearing Bond 9 New Haarlem, it’s my favorite cold rain perfume.
SOTD Diorissimo. I only dabbed from a small vial and it was a bit overwhelming initially. Now that it has settled down, it is warm and quite pretty, and maybe a tad soapy but not enough to put me off. I think this is the current EDT formula. Can anyone say how this compares to the vintage formula?
I can’t help because I won’t try the new one! Hope someone else will chime in.
It’s pretty nice when I have nothing to compare it with! But I guess your comment means you love the oldie.
One of my all time favorites.
I did a side by side comparison with my mother’s vintage parfum and the edp awhile ago. The main difference is that the modern formulation doesn’t have the animalic depth of the the vintage. The floral note was still a very pretty LOTV, but lacked a depth that could have been due to the difference in concentrations. Same with the longevity.
I’m sure concentration is a factor as well. I recently tried current Chamade edp which was nice but felt like it was missing something(never tried vintage) and then tried the parfum which was deep and pretty gorgeous and seemed to fill in the gaps of the edp. Thanks for the input and your research efforts!
Yes, no doubt the modern extrait is wonderful (check out the NST review). However, there is no way for them to completely substitute the original animalic musk due to IFRA, so even the modern parfum will not be the same as the vintage. Dior seems to have made a concerted effort to retain the character of the original Diorissimo, so even the modern formulation is still the ultimate LOTV. If you love the note, I absolutely recommend getting a full bottle regardless of formulation.
You’re welcome – always willing to compare notes! 🙂
It’s astonishing how animalic the older parfums are! LOTV: not so innocent after all. 😉
I have the current EdP. I wore Diorissimo in the ’80s and don’t remember it as quite so forward lily of the valley. That is all I get for quite a while, but I enjoy it after it settles. Still not as much going on but it definitely gets more interesting.
Victoria at BdJ seemed to prefer the newer edp to the most current EDT. All these reforms and then concentration differences can be a little crazy-making! Argh.
And then they do flankers!!! Makes my head spin, sometimes.
“Happy Friday – Eve” Everyone! My choice for SOTD is Chloe. I think its appropriate for the chilly, rainy day we are experiencing. Just an elegant, beautiful fragrance.
I just bought a bottle at TJ Maxx. It was one of my mother’s favorite fragrances, and I needed to have it in my collection.
I am so thrilled to have a blessed day off from work b/c school is out now and I have to watch my daughter. She says: we have a 5 day weekend Mommy. And I am thinking: YES WE DO! So, I am slumming it and watching Peanuts the Movie with her which is just the best movie ever. She is just as in love with Snoopy now as I was 36 years ago. My “breakfast” fragrance is from the back of the drawer, my long neglected Clarins Eau Dynamisante.
Great choice! I love Eau Dynamisante!
🙂
Enjoy the time with your daughter and the Peanuts movie..
Thanks! Next we play with her new bounce ball after lunch.
I love that movie! I saw it in the theater twice, and I don’t even have children. I’ve always been a big Peanuts fan.
I think it restores a person’s faith in humanity. We saw it in the theater and then I bought one for the house. It’s been on a non-stop loop for about three days now. They did a great job. And now my daughter wants to read the old Peanuts comic books were saved from when I was a kid. Very cool. She keeps running around saying “You blockhead!”
You blockhead . . . that’s the best.
I, too, love the Peanuts movie, I’m so glad it held true to the original stories and wasn’t modernized. I saw it in the theater with my grandkids and just bought one for me and one for them.
I love Peanuts!
SOTD is Diptyque Do Son. I am a big fan of tuberose and this fits the bill.
Feeling the remnants of my migraine and lack of sleep so I needed something soothing and spine-stiffening.
We still have the squirrels in the attic and the new maintenance person for our rental is not going to make my list of favorite people. He is lazy and obviously dislikes women and has a huge chip on his shoulder. He is determined to inconvenience me as much as possible because I made the unforgivable mistake of being intelligent and disagreeing with him, which forced him to do work that he intended to ignore. Planned the day around his visit and, of course, he needs to postpone. Again.
If anybody needs me I will be working out my rage on the soap scum in my shower, wafting a huuuuge cloud of No. 5.
‘the unforgivable mistake of being intelligent and disagreeing’ LOL that made me snort 😀
Seriously, your post reminded me of a few unfortunate ‘acquaintances’ of mine I’m forced to keep company with.
Luckily No 5 cures all ills.
Try feeding him beer or cookies or whatever gets him going. No point in making an enemy if a little judicious bribery will grease the wheels of human interaction…
Timbuktu, layered over JPG2 body oil. My favorite layering combo!
SOTD = Burberry Beat EdP
Checked my collection and this is the only full bottle with Iris as the primary floral. Must correct this oversight! Hopefully I’ll win that bid for Prada Infusion d’Iris…any other good bargain Iris fragrances?
I liked the Crabtree and Evelyn Iris but it’s been discontinued, unfortunately. I got some of the body wash and lotion on some online discounter.
Reading the article about the upcoming Boy Chanel reminded me that I have neglected to wear Coromandel this winter. So with freezing rain today, it seemed appropriate.
You smell wonderful
You smell wonderfully cozy!
I’m in the glorious Azemour les Orangers today. The opening is all fizzy fizzy soap on me, and then it gets good, and then it gets really, *really* good. And for some reason, it sort of feels like wearing a health tonic to me!
Perfect.
Cartier La Panthère today. A sample about a year ago, just as I was starting to run out of the perfumes I’d been wearing (dc’ed, the lot of them), was what reminded me how much I enjoy trying out new perfume.
I was reading the NYT piece on the “Shuffle Along” revival. Really recommend it if you’re interested in theater or, frankly, American history.
Speaking of Parfum d’Empire, there was some talk on here yesterday about people hankering after the 2015 iteration of Tabac Tabou but bemoaning the cost and bottle size. I have a recently purchased full bottle and would be happy to do a split from it, though I don’t have any decanting supplies at the moment, so it would take a little time. Would there be any interest in this?
SOTD = DSH’s The Voices of Trees, topped off with the last drops of my sample of Wisteria Hysteria. This smelled fantastic at 5:45 this morning when I applied. Now at 11:16, it’s all very much quieter but the back of my hands, where the drops of Wisteria Hysteria are, still smell quietly wonderful… I think I will need to get a small spray bottle of The Voices of Trees – just to see what it is like sprayed…I actually have a decant of Wisteria Hysteria coming toward me from STC. I know I will buy a full bottle of this someday, but I followed my own edict – sample, decant, 2nd decant just to be sure, FB. My checkbook thanked me. 🙂
Lots of scents going on today: Kiehl’s Musk lotion, Lush Silky Underwear dusting powder, and Hermes Cuir d’Ange. I’m still congested, but I don’t *think* I’m too over-the-top fragrant.
Don’t know what to wear tomorrow yet, but I lovelovelove the idea of basing the theme on a picture. I’ll have to think hard about it tonight.
SOTM was Eau de Feline–I had to take two of our kitties to the vet for exams and vaccinations, so I am now wearing a copious amount of their fur. Our third furbaby goes in tomorrow.
I have been having fun with the Prix Eau Faux, and am looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with.
While I am sorry that the kitties have to brave the vet, eau de fur is one of my very favorite fragrances!
I have to meet people today, so I’ll keep it simple with something like SNM Melograno until tonight.
Yesterday I had the chance to shop in a big Indian supermarket. My God, the aromas!!! I bought the most incredible spiced cashews and delicious-smelling pandanus/keora/kewdra water. So naturally I had to wear DS & Durga My Indian Childhood last night, which is full of kewdra and a hint of other attars. There is a chocolate effect, as well. It’s discontinued, so I’m so glad I have a backup bottle. 🙂
Forgot to note what a great match William Morris is for La Via del Profumo. 🙂
I love shopping in the Indian grocery stores- the food and the non-edibles are all so fragrant! And My Indian Summer was my first indie love, and probably my favorite of their line. And I think a bottle was only like $80 dollars when it came out (which I thought was a lot at the time). So sad they discontinued that one.
That would be “Childhood” not “Summer”. My head, not my body, is off in warmer climes 😉
What a great Freudian slip, Elisa! 🙂
Looking so forward to my shower this morning. I’ve decided that I really really don’t need any more perfumes, so my wallet has turned its lustful eyes to ancillary products. It ordered Eau des Merveilles soap.
Following the suds, it only seems natural that Parfum des Merveilles should be my SOTD. I love extraits, not least because of their adorable tiny little bottles.
This will be a good day.
A very good day. Shower products are wonderful.
And a wonderful way to get extra scents into one’s day! I’ve been enjoying Bandit shower gel on the regular lately.
I had to give my wallet a stern lecture when it started ordering candles and shower gel in addition to fragrance 😉
Still working through my Snowdrop & Crystal Flowers, but had a dental appointment this morning (& he is a rather attractive man!) so took the opportunity to wear something as I was actually leaving the house! Have just booked flights to see our friends north of Houston for 2 weeks in June, so my Bluebell will get a great deal of use then. My husband has just been made redundant oil & gas downturn in the north east of Scotland), so we’re taking the chance to visit them as it may be a while till the next time! Thank you for the William Morris mention, Robin – visited his former home (now a museum & gallery dedicated to his work) when I was in London in December – it was absolutely glorious!
So sorry to hear about your husband’s job. From what I know in dealing with similar situations, that usually is the last resort. I hole he lands on his feet soon! Enjoy Houston – I’ ve only been to the airport.
Thank you for your kind words – we’re in a good position financially, thankfully; bumped into an old friend yesterday & married friends of his with a young family have both lost their jobs recently, which was horrible to hear. Chances of most people finding something similar in the future seem fairly slim.
Would love to visit the home, how cool! And sorry about your husband’s job…
Thank you, Robin.
If you have time for travel in the UK in the next few months, Cragside in Northumbria, Wightwick Manor in Wolverhampton and Standen in Sussex (I think) are worth seeking out. I’m a contractor myself, and won’t pretend that being between contracts is the same as being between jobs, but we can sometimes make some positive use of our downtime. :^)
Been there, done that as a contractor, both my husband & me in the past – it’s not easy! But then in the industry just now heads are rolling at all levels – estimates put job losses this downturn at 65,000. Thank you for tips on destinations.
Comme des Garçons “Ouarzazate” is today’s SOTD. Probably my least favourite of the 4 tried to date, and no better than the others for longevity.
My alter ego is wearing Carthusia “Aloe” today for the community project in the alternative universe. (I’m quite looking forward to trying it myself, a first sniff of aloe vera backed with something more rounded – spices? woody notes? – was encouraging).
I’m very taken with your alternative universe alter ego idea. I might adopt a northern hemisphere alter ego so I can wear spring and summer perfumes now it is getting colder. Looking forwrd to reading your fun five perfumes. Guess you’ll have several boxes of new samples waiting when you get home this weekend!!!! Better than easter eggs.
You know it! I should have my “moment of madness” Parfumerie Générale/ Pierre Guillaume/ Huitième Art megasamplebox and the discovery set from ElDO waiting for me. And one of those “How can this be? Ah, oh, I remember now…” credit card bills. ;^D
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/mar/26/why-midlands-is-best-place-in-britain
Strange, but the article failed to mention perfume collectors and easter perfume hunts. Hope you can still squeeze through your front door without banging your shins on all those boxes! Happy easter.
SOTD 4 resounding spritzes of Cuir de Russie. Happy Almost Friday Day ????
Oh, and my Hong Kong Orchid Tree is busting out in blooms! So beautiful with a very light and delicate scent eminating from the flowers. So gorgeous!
My wisteria is in full bloom too! No scent to speak of but very pretty.
I just blasted myself with Demeter Wildflowers, which will be released in April. I think I like it, but I kind of overwhelmed myself so need some fading to happen….
And I’m sure by now it’s long gone 😉
Yep. I moved on after shower to Mitsouko…
SOTD–MFK Aqua Universalis Forte
Up and out early today–blood drawn at the doctor’s then finished my Whole Foods shopping and home by 9:30 am. What to do with the rest of the day!!
I seem to be doing tomorrow’s challenge today. Unplanned, but there you go, I’m rather foggy today. Man it’s been a loooooong week.
Shower gel this AM was Providence Perfume Co Fern, which is an aggressively strange green. SOTD is La Via del Profumo Oakmoss, the definition of green.
TOTD is Tazo Awake which is not yet performing its stated objective.
Discovered I love Corsica Furiosa yesterday afternoon wearing most of a small decant. It’s my favorite of the PdE that I’ve tried. Today is Journey. I never thought I’d buy a Amouage as most of the ones I’ve tried don’t appeal and they are so very, very expensive, but I tried this one in a shop and loved it and *then* found it practically for free on one of the discount sites. Now I am worrying that I let the discount go to my head and I might better enjoy other things that only cost at the outset what this cost discounted. Oh dear. It is very nice though so I shouldn’t fret and instead enjoy.
Corsica Furiosa sounds interesting. I haven’t tried any of the PdE scents to date (and need to calm down for a while on the sampling front) but I’m a sucker for ‘wild AND Mediterranean”. :^)
Before Christmas I got the Amouage 12 (or is it 10?) sample discovery set and brought it to Málaga for the holidays (only relevant because I was trying it in Summer-like temperatures in the high teens/ mid twenties rather than true Winter cold). Most of what I tried was disappointing and at least one was like water on my skin – if I hadn’t bought directly from Amouage, I would have suspected fraud. But Interlude Man was very special, and I shall never regret discovering it.
Just enjoy Journey, it will give u so much pleasure over the years, and will certainly earn its keep, I’m sure.
I’ve just received a decant from another perfumista, and it’s such a joyful perfume, really uplifting. It’s fast becoming one of my all time favourites, and It’s one of my top 5 for spring- u smell wonderfully pretty!
Continuing with the painting (story behind it) / perfume pairing — today’s theme is about “communication”
For trying to protect the cheating Zeus, Echo suffered Hera’s wrath unleashed her wrath. She was cursed to only be able to repeat her last words last words last words…(could you imagine if thise last words were “You B [rhymes with witch]”?
SOTD = Jacomo Silences PDT vintage
Thank you to a wonderful NSTer who unleashed her generosity :-). Silences is a bitter green chyore and is a wonderful alternative to No.19.
I’m very much enjoying how you’ve interpreted this theme! The combination of classical myth and demotic self-expression tickles me. :^D
I’m glad you got it because the editing is poor. Note to self: edit edit edit edit …
SOTD SL Chergui
One back up bottle of this kept at all times.
One can never be too sure.
So true! That’s a lovely one and you smell great????
Cold and dismal and exceedingly wet today, heavy rain changing to snow later. A day well-suited to my current fascination (addiction?) with early Hitchcock films ( I just checked out Vertigo from my library this morning). Surprisingly, I’m in the mood for rose, but not a sweet, pink springtime rose, no, instead, a deep, dark, spicy old-world rose of substance to cut through today’s dreariness, a sultry rose, with perhaps a bit of patchouli to anchor it. My choice? SSS Velvet Rose.
Scent of the morning is Chanel Eau de Cologne, 4 spritzes. My decant is dwindling, but there is no sense in holding back when applying a scent that will become a whisper in an hour.
I’ve enjoyed the recent comments that include the number of sprays applied for a scent. That little glimpse into fragrance use is fascinating. I would love to have a weekend poll asking “what are your perfume application rules, rituals, and quirks?”
Later I will top up with Eau des Merveilles. I’m going for “dependable comfort” again today.
sotd: love, chloe
going to saks later today and fully anticipate purchasing diptyque eau des sens. unless upon sniffing it, it is underwhelming. planning to spritz liberally, walk around mall and go to dinner, then go back to purchase assuming i enjoy smelling myself during dinner 🙂
Fun! Hope you love it 🙂
Let us know how you make out.
A little Bois d’armenie (even my decant of the reform is still a _good smell_)
I love Bois d’Arménie, someone sent me a decant and I got hooked, I had to buy a bottle.
Wearing vintage No. 19 edt on my last day in San Francisco. Not sure what we’ll be doing today, but it’s gonna be a lovely, warm day. Tonight we meet up with one of Mr. Spicebomb’s friends to watch the Ducks play in the tournament. And tomorrow, home. 🙁
Do you perchance know how curent No 19 parfum stacks up against the vintage EDT? It’s been sparking my curiosity lately but they never have testers for parfum.
I don’t *mind* the current EDT but it’s rather different from the vintage mini I have.
My bottle of current No. 19 is edp rather than edt, so I can’t do a direct comparison. My impressions of the new edp is that the heavy galbanum opening is bigger and more bitter, but it also softens to something more cozy in the dry down. My bottle of vintage edt is less abrasive at the start but doesn’t become quite as warm as it dries down. I *do* know that there are folks here with far more extensive experience, however, and hopefully one of them will chime in!
Can’t help either – never tried No. 19 parfum
You smell wonderful, enjoy the rest of your vacation!
Cacharel Lou Lou. Somewhere between a BWF and a Guerlain.
Darned angry at myself because I lost an earring of a much-beloved pair I [have] had for over ten years. I’m always careful with jewellery but of course I had to haphazardly put my earrings in my jacket pocket instead of stowing them away when I went for a run. I probably whisked one of them out whilst pulling my keys out. Grr. I retraced the running route including all points where I might have fumbled with the pockets. I went to Lost&Found at work, at the gym and at the local Tesco superstore:
‘Do you keep track of lost and found items?’
‘Yes we do Miss; what are you missing?’
‘An earring.’
‘An earring?’
‘Yes’ *hopeful smile*
Gah.
And I split an infinitive too 🙁
So very sorry to hear of your lost earring. I find myself beyond frustrated when I lose track of something small yet precious. 🙁
When my children were small and we lost something small (a toy, a hat, etc.) we would make up a story about the adventures the lost item was having without us. It took the sting out of a sad moment.
Lost jewelry can be heartbreaking. I lost a bracelet last year (at an airport, I think), and my wrist still feels a bit naked without it. I hope you either find it, or come up with some fabulous way to repurpose its twin.
I’ve never forgotten losing a pearl earring my father gave me. Down the drain. I felt so miserable, and my sisters pooh-poohed it. No empathy from those two!
Sisters . . . Yours sound just like mine!
Mine too! Losing treasured jewellery is awful.
Monday morning I also discovered I have lost an earring – only one of them was in my jewelry box! Did I fling it out by mistake? Is it buried underneath a necklace?! No idea, but I don’t have an emotional attachment to it so I’m fine (good excuse to go shopping 😉 ). On the other hand, losing meaningful jewelry is heartbreaking – the only set of jewelry gifted by my S.O. was stolen at the airport on New Year’s Eve. 🙁 Sorry your earring is lost, especially when it had 10 years of accumulated memories associated with it. Hope you find it, though!
And LouLou is great – you smell wonderful. 🙂
Hrrrrrmph, I feel for you. I am a prolific earring loser – so far, I’ve lost an earring from 3 different pairs: a Coach post earring, a 22K gold huggie and a one-of-a-kind 18k gold-filled French wire earring with semi precious stone chips which was a souvenir from the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
SOTD is Gres Quiproquo, which I got in a swap a while back. The Swapmeet motivated me to go through my collection, and I came across this one languishing in the back of a cabinet. I think when I first tried it, I was a bit put off by the rather sharp opening, so I set it aside. Once it dries down a bit, though, it is wonderful.
Warning: I am cranky today. The tree pollen count is off the charts and the allergy I never had until I moved to the West Coast is making me miserable. My new refrigerator was delivered yesterday and whoever designed it never tried to put a gallon of milk on one of the shelves. It doesn’t fit. To cap it all off, I put on some Hiram Green Voyage and it smells terrible on me and I usually adore it. I am sorely tempted to go back to bed and stay there until tomorrow, which can only be an improvement over today. I can’t do that, so I will go hug the dog and bake something for the guy next door.
Hang in there, the pollen counts will drop. Let’s hope for some rain to wash it away. My son is practically unconscious because of his allergy medicine. It’s either sleepy or sneezy, and he prefers sleepy.
Our refrigerator has odd shelves, too. I was surprised when my son pointed out that a gallon of milk fits on the shelf inside the door. :O
Sleepy or sneezy? The eternal question of springtime.
I too bought a frig that looked great, and is the most unhandy thing I have ever put milk and eggs and soda cans into, since I end up dropping half of them getting them out of it. I think they designed this one specifically so as soon as you buy it, you think you need to up grade to the super duper top of the line model…
Where are you from?
When I moved to the west from the east many moons ago, I developed allergies, even allergies on my face 🙁 Then when I moved back they all cleared up.
My refrigerator is OK, but the freezer section seems to get things freezer-burned rather quickly, and ice cream seems to get gummy after a few weeks. Of course, when I bought it, my old fridge had died, so it was rather an emergency purchase, with not a lot of time to think about it or read reviews. When my stove died, I waited two months to replace it (my annual bonus from work was coming in, and I wanted to use that). I tried out every alternative method of cooking without a stove, and it can be done. You can live without a dishwasher indefinitely, and if your washer or dryer breaks you can go to a laundromat, but it is hard to live without a refrigerator.
Ugh. I do hope tomorrow is better. When I moved East from West I developed terrible eye allergies which finally disappeared after about 5 years.
I’ve always rented so never had my choice of fridge. Our last place of 14 years had a child-sized non-frost-free fridge and the landlord would not replace it. We stopped defrosting it weekly and it developed a solid block of ice and was totally unusable. It’s amazing what we put up with!
The last rental place I lived in (for 8 years) did not come with a fridge, so I had to buy one when we moved in. It was a blessing in disguise, though, because the fridge I bought worked great for 18 years. It was the only major kitchen appliance I had that did work. The stove and dishwasher (furnished with the rental house) were both pieces of junk.
Hooh boy – sorry about those troubles! Hopefully you scrubbed and were able to find solace in a different perfume. Oddly enough I think I am also developing allergies, and the fridge door shelf that usually holds our milk cracked. We need to get a replacement, probably from Amazon. Perhaps you could also get a bigger shelf?
In the meantime, give your dog lots of hugs and bake something for yourself, too! Hope your day gets better. 🙂
Whoever designed my stove put in a really annoying safety feature. If the electronic ignition goes out, you can’t get any gas. Power was out all day yesterday and I was snowed in without any way to make a cup of tea. I grew up with a stove that had a pilot light for the burners, but not for the oven, and I could safely light the oven by the time I was eight.
I hope you feel better, Foxbins. I am a lazy bum who doesn’t ever change the radio station on my radio alarm clock. Anyway, I once heard a segment about ways to reduce allergens from coming into the house and one of the suggestions was to wipe down your dog when he or she comes in from outside since fur carries copious amounts of tree pollen spores, etc.
Refrigerators are the bane of my home appliance woes. I can never tell how functional or well-laid-out it is until I get it home and use it for a few weeks, by which time you can’t return it. I hate every fridge I have ever bought and am praying for an early death for the current one.
Good Friday here so my Max Ernst perfume challenge scent is L”ombre dans L’eau …one of the scents I found hidden and stuffed into the toe of my cowboy boot a while back.
Great choice!
Oh, that is a good choice! It is a lovely scent. If it didn’t have such a wonderful name, I would never have tried it, as both rose and green florals in general tend to scare me.
Rose is just one of those things,eh? I like the scent in the garden but don’t wear it.
I have the edt of this and it is lovely, but I recently tried the edp and hated it. There was an overpowering unpleasant tomato leaf note that drowned out any rose that might have been in there.
I am not a rose person ( sadly) but i do like tomato leaf…so we can be yin and yang twins. Have a happy easter. Hope all your chocolate eggs have amouage fillings.
I’m wearing Heeley L’Amandiere from a sample today. I like the springy greenness of it, even if it did start out a bit more cucumbery today than I remembered.
Also, weird thing.. I have some violet candies, the kind that are basically solid sugar with the anise seed in the middle.. and I think somebody messed up on one of them, or the some seeds got mixed up in the factory. I just had one where I crunched the seed, and instead of anise, it was cumin. Weird. Not entirely unpleasant, but weird when it’s unexpected.
The postman just brought me 3 swap packages, after bringing me one yesterday. I am feeling a little chagrined, as I only got mine sent out yesterday. I think this is the first time that I received all of mine before any of my swap partners got their packages from me.
I really do need to get some decanting supplies and start offering decants of some of my larger bottles. I don’t have very much left that I want to completely get rid of, but there are some that I know I will never use up, and I might as well let someone else enjoy some of them and just keep what I can reasonably expect to use.
I should do the same. Only the postage costs hold me back. But I really need to cut down the number of liters in my possession.
Trying Dame Perfumery Soliflore Gardenia today.
If I sniff it up close–in sort of the smelling equivalent of looking at something through squinted eyes–I think I can get why some people report blue cheese. Will see how it develops….
Friday here and on holiday for Easter, so a lazy start to day and no perfume yet. I haven’t managed any more nuanced thought about the painting than ‘green and slightly spooky’, so I’m thinking of Andrea Maack’s Coven post-shower.
CRISTALLE – It’s 70 and sunny and I’m sitting in the park.
PERFECT 🙂 Enjoy the sun for me and I’ll enjoy the rain for you.
Oh lucky you! (And whoever is sitting near you smelling Cristalle.)
So late today.
Robin, you do smell great! I have a tiny sample of Twarf which I hoard. Silly, I know.
I wore Alaia today. I needed something easy to wear as I am still not up to par.
Oops, Tawaf..
I am having an anti-hoarding week, and really enjoying it. It’s a whole week of wonderful ‘fumes, and there is nothing worse than having the last little bit of the Precious dry up on you.
And that’s true too…
Ha…I am being careful to use my sample slowly too!
SOTD is MFK Cologne pour le Soir. It’s lovely and warm, but still very light, and the honey is neither cloying nor animalic, to my nose. I don’t love it quite as much as I remember doing the last time I wore it, which is probably just as well, since it’s almost gone. I think I’ll save the last of it for a really warm day (or better yet, evening), as I think this may fit into the “orientals suitable for summer” category.
Looking forward to reading about everyone’s choices for tomorrow! I suspect I will have no scent twins, but then I thought a bunch of us would be wearing Sensuous on Estée Lauder day, and I could not have been more wrong.
