It's World Water Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Frederic Malle Une Rose. (I was reminded by yesterday's Monday Mail.)
Reminder: 3/25 will be Picture challenge, edition 1. Wear a perfume that matches the picture. We're staring off with Max Ernst, The Nymph Echo, 1936. (you can find larger versions here and here, and you can read the story from Greek mythology about Echo on Wikipedia.) (someone suggested the picture challenge, raise your hand if it was you!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is mini landscape pink rose with water drops [cropped] by Heather at flickr; some rights reserved.
Amethyst (Lalique). Haven’t worn this in years, and had forgotten how potent it is. One spray is too much.
Scrubber…
I am also saddened and angered by these attacks on Belgium.
Sorry about your scrubber!
And yes.
Many of us take it for granted that, when we turn on our taps or faucets, safe water will always be there.
On this tragic morning, I wanted to dedicate my most beautiful perfume Alahiiiiine (with the extra i’s) to Belgium.
I’m also in Alahiiiine, and join you in that dedication.
You smell great Twin!
Amen.
Am in Jour (Absolue) de Hermes.
you smell great!
Alahine is wonderful. We do need to be more grateful when we have access to good water.
I lived in Madagascar many years ago, and I had a funny moment upon re-entry into the States regarding water. I was in the New Jersey airport and I bought a chocolate bar. The cashier asked me if I wanted something to drink–soda?–to wash it down.
My genuine and enthusiastic reply: “Are you KIDDING?!” There are drinking fountains EVERYWHERE and it’s good, clean water! I don’t have to boil it or filter it or ANYTHING!”
He looked at me like I was an alien.
Thats fantastic! The guy must of thought you were a bit off your rocker. But he had a story to tell when he got home..
I always tell my husband that it bothers me that there is so much hunger in the world, yet in new york city I am never 50 feet from a place that sells food!
SOTD is vintage Lancome Magie Noire! Cheers!!!
You smell wonderful!
Thanks!!
Oh I am sooo jealous! You are smelling fabulous????
I figured it was one of the last cool days to indulge before I look to all my warm weather fragrances.
Wow, you smell amazing.
Yves Rocher Voile d’Ambre. Great cheap thrill, I really like its shalimariness.
Yves Rocher can be great. Thanks a lot for the tip about the article, some of it I guessed more or less. But we are not well informed about it here.
Oh, Austenfan… Thank you for taking your time and reading it. S2
Currently wearing the remnants of Boyfriend which I sprayed last night. So sad to wake to the news of more violence in Belgium.
Very.
My sisters MIL wears Boyfriend, and it always smells very good. The sillage is fantastic!
For some reason, I like to wear it as a sleep scent on cold nights. Probably because it is a big scent. Also, I’m struggling with allergies/spring cold. I can’t smell much. I finally put in a few sprays of Equistrius but I can’t smell it.
Tuscan Leather smelling of suede and raspberry. Very much like DKMen in the odd futuristic stick shift bottle.
Probably my second favorite Private Blend, behind Amber Absolute. ☺
Tuscan Leather is so good. That raspberry note is elusive for me – it only pops up one wear out of three. My decant is almost gone, and I doubt I’ll replace it as it’s expensive, but it’s such a *comfortable* leather.
Skin chemistry is fascinating, one of the many reasons I like perfumery.
The raspberry note lasts the entire duration, on my skin.
2 more paycheck sand that bottle is mine, I tell you! Mine!
Wearing Chanel 19. So much worry in the world, even though personal fragrance is something small, anything that feels grounding and familiar has a positive effect.
Small good things are what keeps us from drowning in all the bad that world has to offer.
Appreciating the small things, and not taking them for granted, is a great way to enjoy your life to the fullest. You smell lovely!
Lune de Givre again for what feels like real but early spring. So sad about the events in Brussels, my thoughts are with anyone affected.
Finally warming up a bit here too…
Ugh. Dentist appointment (checkup/cleaning) this afternoon. But, Chanel No. 19.
And some lovely packages came in the mail recently – an ebay purchase of mini parfums (I’m such a sucker for minis… YSL Paris parfum and micro-mini Samsara, and seller included a freebie Benetton Colors edt), and a lovely care package from Elisa. Thanks, dear one! Will sample later.
Congrads on your fantastic packages.
If I can join in with your fun my early b-day gift a bottle of Alahiiiine arrived yesterday. I am very smitten with this fragrance.
I’m so happy for your Alahiiiiiine!
I got the smaller bottle, its very beautiful. I feel very chic. Enjoy your Tuesday and your smile after the dentist appt!
Y’all are wearing down my resistance to try Alahiiine!
Hi Luna-
Now that I have a fb, I can send you a sample. Are you in the US? think about it and email me at sandrabenedict at gmail dot com
You are so sweet! Thank you!!! Email sent.
Meant also to say that the lovely pink rose image does not suggest Une Rose to me. I wondered whether I was the only one surprised.
I think it was more a lovely picture of water, to celebrate World Water Day. The Une Rose was inspired by yesterday’s “Recommend a Perfume” thread.
Yes, water, got that. But Une Rose is this big burgundy rose (hiding a knife behind its back) for me, very far away from the frilly, lacy pinky girly thing in this image, so it seemed a little off. Probably wouldn’t have been surprised at all by a pic of a wine-colored rose with dewdrops.
Like this, maybe: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/544583779915793756/
I really love minis! The bottles are so gosh darn cute and I often use a mini as a way to travel with a fragrance and feel a bit more glamorous.
I think I have a collection problem with minis. As in, please nobody call “Hoarders.”
I hope the No 19 helps you through your day. I love minis too. I have a teeny tiny little mini of Chamade extrait which is just adoreable. The fragrance inside turned, but it cracks me up to see this bottle that is about 1 inch tall sitting next to it’s “big mama” full size one oz bottle of the extrait.
You have a big bottle of extrait? Yay!!
I bought an empty 1/4 oz parfum bottle and put my pdt in it.
It was an early HG true love fragrance indulgence. Chamade in extrait is heavenly! It’s cool that you use the empty extrait bottle for your PdT.
Dental twins! I had my cleaning first thing this morning. I always schedule early appointments so I don’t spend the whole agonizing over the upcoming visit. Glad it’s done!
I bet you are! I don’t mind the dentist, but I’m always afraid they’re going to find that I need some painful/expensive work done.
Trying to comment early today to let you all know that me and my family are well. Shaken, though – both my workplace and house are uncomfortably close to Maalbeek station and obviously the entire situation is horrid. Thank you for all those who have reached out to me.
Wearing Le Temps d’une Fête.
glad you are safe Annikky! Hugs from NYC to you!
Thanks, I was worried; things are looking grim right now. Be safe, be well.
And you smell gorgeous!
Grateful for social media and the internet helping us to check in on you. I was relieved also to see that Victoria of Bois de Jasmin is also safe.
I know Jonette is from Belgium too, but I can’t recall if she’s in Brussels or not. Either way, just happy that you’re safe and thinking of everyone there.
I think she’s in the Netherlands but everyone should be on the alert and stay safe. There was exra police presence at Penn Station.
My mistake – thanks for the clarification!
Oh, dear, at least you smell truly wonderful. Hoping with all my heart our beautiful world will find a way out of this mess…
You know, I found myself being glad at some point that I was wearing a perfume of distinction. Not quite in the sense that it’s comforting to wear something beautiful (although it is, to some extent), but that it would have somehow been unfitting to wear a middling, trivial perfume on a day like this. I’m not sure it makes much sense, but it’s fascinating how the mind works.
And I’m with you in hoping.
A lovely sentiment, which I’ll echo by wearing Shalimar. Hope you and yours stay well, and you keep smelling amazing!
That absolutely makes sense. Thank you so much for being in touch.
I can see why, dear. Take care.
Glad you are safe. Thinking healing thoughts for everyone in Brussels.
You were on my mind when I saw the news this morning and am relieved that you and your family are safe. How horrible and frightening this is. Hugs to you.
So glad you are well and safe. Victoria of Bois de Jasmin has also checked in on Twitter.
Thanks, Robin – I wasn’t sure if V was still at her grandmother’s or had returned to home base. Good to know she’s okay, wherever she is.
She is here and OK, I was in contact with her as well.
Thanks. I worried about her too.
Thank you very much for posting this, Annikky – I’m sure many of us were anxious about your whereabouts and are very relieved to hear you and yours are all okay.
So happy to read your reassurance that you and you family are well. Thank goodness!
I immediately thought of you when I found out. Glad you are safe.
Relieved that you and your family are well, and I think your choice of perfume is spot on. You smell beautiful.
Thank you for checking in here; my first thought on hearing the news this morning was for our lovely perfume commenters and some internet travel board friends who are Belgian .
Annikky, You’re the 1st person I thought of this morning when I heard the news. So happy you and your family are OK, and will be praying for you, Belgium, and everyone affected by this evil. I hope the US and all our allies will find a way to deal with this continuing violence…
So glad to hear you are safe, Annikky. I thought of you and Victoria immediately when I heard the news a few minutes ago. And right after they caught the guy from the Paris bombings. Terrorists seem to me to be just like a hydra where you cut off one head and two more grow.
Hydra is a sad but so true assessment.
So relieved that you and your family are well and safe.
Thank you for thinking to check in and I am very glad you and your family are safe.
Glad you’re safe. I was worried as soon as I saw the headline.
Glad to know you are ok and finding comfort in your perfume.
I worried for you. Glad to know you are safe and well.
Annikky, I’m glad to find out that you and your loved ones are fine.
Good to hear both you and BdJ (as I think of her) are well. Stay safe. We are all thinking positive – and comforting – thoughts.
So glad that u let us all know that you and you’re family are ok- I was thinking about u when I heard the awful news this morning.
Love from Oregon. I am glad that you are safe, and I am sad that you are shaken by such cruelty and violence.
Thank you so much for all the lovely messages, you are making me cry a bit. I will try to go home now and see my daughter (she’s been at home with J) – hopefully I can get out of the building, we have been in a lockdown mode so far.
Glad you’re safe, Annikky and thanks for letting us knkw. You were the first person I thought of when I heard the news!
I’m glad you checked in. I thought of you when I heard about the attacks, and I’m glad you and your family are ok.
I’m so glad you checked in. I was worried about you.
Annikky – my thought are with you today, and I am glad you are OK. It is just so awful. I feel so sorry for everyone involved and your country as a whole. I was lucky enough to visit Belgium when I was on study abroad and my Dad had done business in Bruges many times, and had almost got a job over there. So I always feel an affection for Belgium. I just feel so sad for all this horror coming into Europe now.
Thank you for checking in, my first thought was of you and Viktoria Frolova of Bois de Jasmin. So glad to hear you are okay. Sending warm supportive thoughts for all who are affected.
I’m so glad you and your family are safe!
I thought of you immediately, Annikky. I imagined you were safe, but the fear and worry about others in such a situation is also terrible. I am so sorry this has happened to your city and your country. You are a special part of this community.
I’m so glad you checked in here and that you and yours are okay. I’m traveling since very early and just heard the news.
Sending you a big hug!
Annikky, like everyone here, you were on my mind this morning. Thank You for checking in. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Thankfully you are safe!
Be safe, be well, be careful.
I’m so glad you and your family are safe. I’m sending thoughts of support and strength to Brussels all the way from Arizona!!
So glad to hear you and your family are OK. What a dreadful time.
So glad that you and our other scented friends are safe. I was thinking about all of you.????
Saw your post on twitter, but glad you’ve posted here as well! Happy you and your family are safe! And it looks like my work colleagues are all ok too. But I am so sad for all the others and the victims of attacks earlier in Paris, Ankara etc. I will never understand how people can aim to kill and hurt like that…
I’m sorry that I’m unable to reply to all of you individually, but I am truly, truly grateful for every single message. We are all home and safe – J’s brother and his girlfriend also arrived from Estonia. They were due to land at the airport today at lunchtime, but were redirected to Frankfurt, took a train to Leuwen and a nice guy gave them a lift to Brussels. He said that instead of sitting at home watching the news, he decided to come and see if he could help. Clearly, all is not lost.
I made salmon with lemon, garlic and tarragon; lentils with leek, celery, tomato and sour cream; roast peppers and blueberry muffins. At least I can control what happens in my kitchen.
Good to know that you and Victoria and your families are okay. I think your approach of good perfume and good meals is a healing approach.
Hoping that the aftermath is not too hard to weather.
Thank you for the heartening story, and heartening meal inspiration. It sounds lovely.
So glad you and your family are safe. Have not had time to join the comments today, but wanted to search for you to make sure all was OK. It is horrid and it makes me angry. Too many innocent lives effected.
So glad to hear you and your family are alright! Sending warm thoughts from California to you and yours.
Glad to know you are ok, Annikky. My thoughts are with you and all the Belgians today. I believe you have the strength and courage to stand tall in this tragic time.
Finally dragging myself up from migraine hell just to say “hey.” Am reaching out to neighbors who have lots of family in Brussels and also wanted to check in with you. Am so glad you and your loved ones are okay. Please stay safe.
Thank you! I do appreciate that “hey” very much.
Anniky, I’m so glad you and your family are unharmed. And thanks for mentioning Victoria, too (for people who do not tweet). Stay well!
And, I completely understand your perfume rationale for today.
Thank you so much for com firming your safety. I’m so sorry and horrified. Praying for the situation. You are wearing one of my favorite fragrances, by the way.
Anniky
Stay safe
Thought about you and yours since this morning
Trying out my sample of Misia–very iris, much root!
That’s what I get, too.
Rooty twins! SOTD = Iris Silver Mist
I wish I smelled that, it was vinyl swimming pool on my skin. Great childhood memories, but not what I want to of. (Grammar police, arrest me! )
Smell of. Wth Auto correct!
I get a lot of plastic with Misia too, which is too bad b/c the powdery parts are very pretty.
I get that as well, but I like it.
Oh, I like it too Jenkr, just not all day on my skin.
My perfume paradox du jour. ????
And didn’t you jump through hoops to get a sample?
Yes! I did, grateful I didn’t blind buy.
Did you test. Body Kouros, hajusuuri ?
Yay or nay ? ????????????
Oy, now I have to put my thinking cap on to figure out what I did with my sample which I brought back with me all the way from Madrid.
Doc Sinister, if you set up a twitter account for doge perfume reviews, I will follow you.
Ditto!
Thirding that!
I’m wearing a cheap and cheerful spring scent, Yardley’s Royal English Daisy. I bought this when I was just getting back into wearing fragrance, and all I knew and liked at that time was green florals.
Well, green florals are great!
Second that mals!
Third!
I’m pretty sure I sprayed on Puredistance White this morning, but I keep on smelling iris poudre. Either I made a mistake, however the vials are not even the same size, or they are very similar, something I had not noticed up to now, I have to test them simultaneously and compare the dry down.
That’s intriguing – I hope you’ll report back!
Heure Exquise on this not so exquisite day.
So many bad news over bad news. It’s too much.
It is.
You smell wonderful and I’m sending hugs.
Feeling sad and also grateful this morning. Thinking about the things I take for granted-and, yes, clean water is a biggie.
SOTD is MFK Cologne por le Soir which is like a cashmere blanket of comfort.
cashmere blanket fragrance sounds comforting on a day like today
I share both sentiments…
I am wearing TF Japon Noir (sadly discontinued) which is spicy, woody and a bit mossy with a nice dose of jasmine. It is a tad sweet, but very nice.
I am drinking an Assam Oolong which is both oolong-y and a bit malty.
What’s the Assam called? Apart from Assam Oolong?
It is Doomni Estate Summer Oolong.
Thanks, I love trying new teas!
Yummy fragrance and excellent tea.
That tea sounds lovely. I love Assam and the more malty the better.
I got Ormonde Jayne samples in the mail yesterday and am trying Ormonde Woman today. Holy crap, I get why this one is so popular now and feel a bit ridiculous for not having gotten it much sooner. This is GORGEOUS.
You smell lovely. Pardon my huffing.
Ha! I’ve been huffing myself all morning! A sample of this is not enough!
OJ Woman is gorgeous. There is nothing else like it. I like to wear it in the fall.
I’m absolutely amazed by it. I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do. I’m seriously putting nose to wrist every five minutes. I want to douse myself in the rest of the sample I have, but then I’d have none left. This is an instant FB worthy.
Your love is persuasive. Would you like another 2 ml?
I’m with you! It is wonderful. I just wore it for the last time this season last week … or the week before.
I love both the Man and the Woman Ormondes. I wish we had more cool waeher sometimes so that I felt more like wearing them.
I got my samples from the official site and didn’t even see the discovery set until after I’d ordered 4 individual samples. I’d like to try the Man one as well.
Ormond Woman is one of my favourites! Instant love the moment I smelled it, you’ve clearly had a similar experience
I also love Ormonde Woman, as does my husband. Not is interesting that over the past couple of years I’ve acquired a variety of OJ through either decants or via her sales.
Commando so far. I will try and find something defiant and comforting.
Defiant, yet comforting. I like that. Let us know.
EldO’s Like this.
Good choice. Especially if you count the poem.
Yes, it was the poem, and the simple comfort of home and skin. Glad you posted on LICC today.
I was thinking the same thing.
Gorgeous photo!
SOTD is MFK Cologne pour le Soir for a cool and sunny day.
Sending healing vibes to Brussels and everyone effected by the most recent insanity.
Hey twin! Gosh, I love this stuff. We smell great!
Now for your helpful enabler message for the day: all the Tom Ford exclusives that were recently discontinued are now at the discounters. Scored my bottle of Lys Fume for right around $100, a smidge more than half off! Some are sold out but most sites will zip you an email when it is available again. Wearing some Mugler Womanity lotion because our Neil over at Black Narcissis loathes it and I do not but I understand why he does. It balloons and is really quite odd.
Whew! Glad they’re sold out ’cause I couldn’t have resisted.
Look how I misspelled Narcissus! Good heavens, I should have my Perfumista and Gardening badges revoked!
I too put on Une Rose – last night, inspired by the wonderful list of my favorite roses – and it’s still going strong.
Hey twin!
Commando at the moment. I’m waiting for my load of laundry to be done so I can throw it in the dryer. My work uniform was a little on the nasty side after working last night. But I am tickled. I was in one of my dresser drawers, looking for something and I couldn’t believe that I found an 8ml decant of vintage Mitsouko. But it is going to be a Deneuve day after wearing L’Heure Bleue yesterday. As much as I love L’Heure Bleue, I don’t wear it often because it’s such a powder bomb and it can be on the too sweet side.
Wow, nice find!
I know. I can never have enough vintage Bal or Mitsouko.
I decided I needed something comforting on this unsettling morning so went with Poet’s Jasmine. I had forgotten how easy and comfortable most of the Ineke’s are for me. Perhaps I’ll visit my other bottles this week too.
I love Evening Edged in Gold. Why don’t I have a bottle?
I love that one too, and Gilded Lily. Got both my bottles from Beautyhabit at a discount, but looks like they’re out of Evening Edged in Gold. Even at full price I think they’re really reasonable especially if you get the sampler first. You should totally get a bottle.
Enabling the enabler? Out enabling me? I checked the Ineke website and am considering the sample set. Your work is done, dear MikasMinion.
It’s warm and windy here and getting greener every day, a perfect day for this season’s first wearing of Balmain Vent Vert, a favorite springtime scent for me. I have the 1990 version; with the jaunty feather on its cap and perky polka-dot bow. and zingy green, I’m hoping it will lighten the mood of this somber day.
I would like to try Balmain Vert- sometimes i do see at TJ Maxx for a good price and am tempted!
Having difficulty working on taxes on a morning like this, I decided to do some sample reorganizing. Fracas is just about what is going on in my head, but the fragrance is what I wanted to sniff – distracting, over the top tuberose, and sweeter than I would usually wear.
Perhaps a paper tax return with a bit of Fracas dabbed on it would be a good strategy
Sure couldn’t hurt!
Sounds like a great plan to me. I’d love to open a letter that smelled of Fracas, or any gorgeous fragrance!
Or maybe not- overworked agent at the IRS would go ‘hmm..’ and maybe take a closer look at your returns!
Hopefully a female agent would run out on a break to try to find that scent and a man would be distracted and daydream about his SO.
Thinking of Brussels….and hoping the civilized world will soon work together to stop the evil permanently. Enough said!
SOTD: Modern Muse Chic.
Shalimar EDP today – Shalimar varies on me quite a bit – sometimes I get mostly woods, sometimes more vanilla. Today started off pretty woody, now the vanilla is coming to the fore. I could wear this all the time. I have worn this all the time in the past. It’s nice to have a rotation at this point.
Horrified by the bombings in Brussels. Continuing to feel alternately puzzled and appalled at the deterioration of political discourse in the United States. People are taking sides and jostling for position and power, with no evident thought about who might actually be capable of dealing with the global crises we face.
Grateful for perfume and good friends and family.
Continuing to feel alternately puzzled and appalled at the deterioration of political discourse in the United States
Yes. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Shalimar, created in 1925, has seen and survived a lot.
Twins!
In perfume, and in sentiment. The loss of innocent life due to violence is always a tragedy. More often than not I am appalled by news of our politicians – most of them don’t seem to believe that we are all one nation, and that we strongest when we stand together.
In celebration of National Fragrance Day I went on a smelling adventure yesterday! Annikky you were absolutely correct – those limited edition Jo Malones went fast! Thankfully lesson learned before the limited edition tea scents are released next month. They only had the Strawberry & Parsley and Carrot & Fennel left for sniffing
I was most interested in the Strawberry, though and it was more lovely than I thought. The dominant note was the parsley/tomato leaf, with the strawberry sweetness melding with the sourness to create a wonderfully fresh but sweet accord. Today Nordstrom will be giving out 2 free Jo Malone minis with a $165 Jo Malone purchase (no affiliation with either), so I am seriously considering getting a bottle of the Strawberry, and Wood Sage and Sea Salt (first time smelling the latter was yesterday, and it is soo good! Perfect for any day, but especially for summer). Oh dear, my bank account is not going to be happy…
I sniffed others, but this post is long enough, so I’ll leave it for later!
Happy Water Day everybody, and hope you appreciate the hardworking civil engineers that give you safe drinking water – from your taps!
I have a humongous bottle of Wood Sage & Sea Salt and would be happy to send you a decant if you end up not buying! You know how to reach me
“…Continuing to feel alternately puzzled and appalled at the deterioration of political discourse in the United States. People are taking sides and jostling for position and power, with no evident thought about who might actually be capable of dealing with the global crises we face.”
In a nutshell, my thoughts.
And you smell very good indeed!
Thank you for your eloquence.
Wearing Journey today, from a lovely perfume package sent to me from the incredibly kind and generous hememalis.
I am enjoying it so much, on this lovely spring day, running around green fields behind my house with the dog and kids in the sunshine this morning, feeling incredibly lucky to be able to do so.
My thoughts are with those affected by the recent atrocities in Brussels.
I agree wholeheartedly with one of the earlier comments, perfume may seem frivolous, but we all take beauty and comfort where we can.
I’m wearing Guerlain Pamplelune today.
My heart also goes out to the victims in Brussels. It is hard to comprehend sometimes how much evil there is in the world. Sad.
Vintage Caron En Avion.
So a bit of a Sunday preach:
1) Clean water is a public good that far too many of us in the USA has taken for granted, and despite warning bells sounding off for the last 20 years about the need to upgrade and repair our aqueducts systems, we have mostly dodged a bullet. Now, with emergencies in Flint, and indications that century old aqueducts east of the Mississippi are suffering under development, I do encourage all of you in the USA to look into how and what your local water authority is handling your local water. And please do give to charities that help communities developing nations have access to clean water.
2) I am so sorry over the cruelty and violence in Belgium. What is there is to say to such violence? You can ask why, but it does not matter, for the answer would help justify the violence. You can try to predict it, but that is a fool’s game. All you can do is foster an atmosphere of connection, sympathy and love towards other human beings. All you can do is dress yourself the best you can, look the best you can, and go out in the day and do the best you can.
3) SOTD: Jour d’ Hermes Absolu. Blue suit, pink shirt, high topped pink sneakers.
I always tell my daughter that where we live is very special because we make water for millions of people down the mountain. We are very lucky. Protecting our resources is very important!
I’m wearing Silver Factory, which I chose this morning before I knew what was going on in the world, and it feels wrong somehow—as Annikky said above, this feels like a day for a more serious perfume. It might seem like a strange thing to be concerned with now, but her comment made so much sense to me, especially when there are so few things about the situation we can actually control.
Personally, I think Silver Factory was a good choice for today for the defiance and independence The Silver Factory gave to artists. Last week, I saw the “Warhol by the Book” exhibit at The Morgan Library and probably would have worn Silver Factory sometime this week except I had decided to do a painting / perfume pairing all week.
I am joining the group in Alahine today – I like the idea of wearing a beautiful and worthy perfume in contrast to the baseless hatred and violence expressed in the Belgian bombings.
Wearing a small amount of Rozy. I overapplied the first time I wore this one and just about gassed myself. Most things aren’t that loud on me, but this one is something else.
What concentration? Love the edp and may eventually get the voile d’extrait but they’re very different scents
I believe it’s the EDP. It’s the only one I’ve tried thus far. I haven’t explored the Vero scents as much as I’d like. I don’t think I’ve tried concentrations other than EDP for any of them.
I’m wearing what I wish I had yesterday… Aroma M Geisha Green. Absinthe & cassis, delicious & spring-like!
(Empty words so breezy and insouciant, to cover up how very angry I feel at the world.)
Une Rose is so wonderful, one of my all time absolute favorites.
I’m wearing Une Fleur de Cassie today, and testing out 2 of the herb garden Jo Malone scents.
Looks like I am going to miss the Herb Garden altogether, I can’t seem to make myself go to the mall.
Go! Go! And if you see Fennel & Lemon Thyme and like it, buy it without a second thought. I had a little bit of time this afternoon before i needed to get to Penn Station and decided to peek in the Flower Show at Macys Herald Square AND check out the Jo Malone counter to see if any of the newer than the Herb Garden series arrived (nope). The SA mentioned that it sold out the very first day! I got mine from Bloomies.
just realized I spliced two perfumes…the one that’s sold out is SORREL & Lemon Thyme!
Which 2?
I was trying out Nasturitum & Clover and Carrot Blossom & Fennel. I was able to get samples of those 2 because the SAs at the boutique know me and made an exception (they are sweethearts). Along with Annikky, I like Wild Strawberry & Parsley as well. My two favorites are the WS&P and N&C. While CB&F is nice, it was a bit sweet for me, and I already have a perfume I like with a carrot note–Seven Veils.
The Sorrel & Lemon Thyme seems to be really popular. I can see why, but it wasn’t my thing, at least not in the top notes. Anything that has a strong lemon-y thing going just makes me think of household cleaner. And that’s the last thing I want to wear. but I know many find it extremely refreshing and great for Spring.
Yesterday I wore Go Ask Alice, a favorite, and now I’m trying to … aha! SOTD is Mohur. Much as I like it, it doesn’t last long on me, so it won’t achieve Alice’s status. It might be a better perfume, but if it can’t hold on, I don’t want to buy more.
Also, more importantly, thoughts go out to Annikky this morning and all those affected by the terror attacks.
Wearing JHaG Mad Madame. I just feel mad today, in every sense of the word.
I’m trying to do a painting/perfume pairing all week.
SOTD = Jo Malone Birch & Black Pepper
The fiery Black Pepper represents Hera’s anger at Zeus’ extra-curricular activities.
A non-perfume question if I may? Are there any coin collectors in our midst? I am looking for recmmendations for reputable coin valuation websites. Thank you.
Ah, perfect painting / perfume pair.
Clever!
sotd guerlain samsara
I love Samsara, you smell great. Is it vintage or the recent version?
super late reply you may never see….it’s vintage (late 90s, first and only samsara i ever purchased) and while I only wear it about a half dozen times per year, it’s a favorite.
Saffron Rose from Grossmith today. This is a pretty hefty rose / oud / leather scent. Thinking of the people in Brussels today and hope that those who are injured pull through.
Wearing Lush’s The Smell of Freedom to go along with voting in AZ’s primary today.
I poured all that was left of my sample of Un Jardin sur le Nil today. It’s nice, but not for me. I have trouble smelling it without burying me nose on my arm and it’s greener than what I had wished for (although I’m enjoying how it smells right now, about 3 1/2 hours after applying it).
SOTD = Clinique Aromatics Elixir. Hugs and prayers to Belgium and her people today.
My SOTD is a combination of two fragrances just like the combination of hot and cold weather we have been experiencing in Texas.
I am wearing Bronze Goddess and Wild Fig & Cassis. It’s funny how these two fragrances together work for me. It’s very nice!
I was so looking forward to today–I have tickets to see Bruce Springsteen tonight, but now my happiness has been tainted by the violence in Brussels. My thoughts are with their citizens this morning. Wearing Salome for its hard/soft dichotomy.
What fun — hope you will enjoy the concert anyway! He will say something about Brussels I’m sure.
Please make a point of enjoying yourself tonight. We can always use more joy in the world. You smell lovely!
Thoughts going out to the peaceful people today. May we all live up to our ideals during difficult times.
Day 4 of Spring Break for me today: our first full day in San Francisco. We went wandering around Union Square last night and Mr. Spicebomb was very kind and let me do tons of sniffing at Barneys. Had to walk out with my very own bottle of Eau de Magnolia. (I’ve nearly drained the 10mL from the coffret.) That’s my SOTD.
Mr. Spicebomb’s SOTM was Dans Tes Bras, accidentally spraying into his face while he tried to remove the sample vial from the card! Tee hee. It smelled good on him.
Having a great trip so far! Beautiful all the way down the coast.
Oh, and I got engaged two days ago.
Congratulations on your engagement!
Thank you!
Congratulations!
Thanks!
Lol! I like the offhand way you slipped the engagement in your post.
Congratulations, Marjorie Rose !
Hey, maybe the perfume news took precedence?!
Oh excellent! Was it a romantic surprise?
Yeah, he did good. Just after I was being nerdy collecting water samples to bring back to my students. On the beach–it was beautiful.
Awwww!!! Sweet
Congrats!! How lovely
Appreciate it!
Congratulations!
Was it you who said recently that things weren’t moving as quickly as you would have liked on that front? Turns out he was planning the surprise despite what he said, huh! Great news!
It’s true, I was getting impatient! Very pleased he didn’t wait TOO, too long!
Fabulous, best wishes to you both!
Thank you, Robin!
Congrats! How wonderful! Now you need to buy yourself an engagement present
I like the way you think!
Yay, congratulations!!!
Marjorie Rose, as my high school journalism teacher would have said, “You buried the lede!”
Best wishes to you and Mr. Spicebomb.
Congratulations!
And journalists talk about burying the lead!!
What lovely news! There a tons of best wishes heading your way.
Congratulations! I remember when you were sharing your dating experiences. It ‘s been clear that you found a “keeper.” So good to hear that he wants to keep you too.
Yeah, I did a lot of leg work to find a good one!
Comgratulations, Marjorie Rose! And…San Francisco – swoon, I could see myself living there!
Where was the spellchecker when I needed it? CoNgratulations!
It’s really a beautiful town, isn’t it?
Congratulations on your eau de Magnolia and your engagement!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!!! Buried the lead a little, there.
I like it!
So many questions, but prefer you enjoy your vacation to the fullest instead (we can talk later
). You smell wonderful – have fun!
Happy to talk later.
Hooray! Very best wishes to you both!
Congratulations, Marjorie Rose and Mr. Spicebomb! I had a feeling all along that you two would get engaged. How romantic to do it on a nice vacation together. Now we will all want details on the perfumes to celebrate all the wedding-y events and the wedding itself.
Will certainly keep you in the loop!
Congratulations! Were you surprised? ???? I love Dans tes Bras; have never smelled it on a man. That stuff goes a long way, though! I have to be vewwy vewwy careful when I apply. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!
Thank you, all, for the congratulations! Super-fun to be able to be at this point!!! Seems like only yesterday I was sharing my online dating woes.
Congratulations!
It’s my day off so I can wear Songes. Yay!
Songes is perfectly gorgeous!
Ormond Jayne’s Orris Noir for me today.
Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Toit, from a generous Nordstrom sample. Met my new favorite fragrance SA yesterday, he set me up with this one which has never appealed to me in the past, but is just right for me now. ♡
No. 5 Eau Premiere today for comfort and dependability. Thanks to Jacques Polge. And to Coco.
I’ve been dithering, but will join you in EP…definitely comfortable & dependable.
Bois des Iles and Oriental Beauty Oolong (Tao of Teas). Both are very elegant yet soothing.
SOTD is CdG “Zagorsk” from series 3 incense. I like this dry and dusty scent with its spices and soft incense. I would like it to have more lasting power.
Although not doing the community project this week, I liked the idea of it and chose 5 green perfumes I have at home and would have worn if participating. Tuesday is Olfactive Studio’s “Panorama” as it’s green with a wasabi note so suitably weird. :^)
Just got home from my housecall client. It’s a beautiful cool, blowy sunny day here and I just put on some Indochine. Very calming and centering frag, much needed after hearing the news of Brussels.
Indochine is lovely. You smell wonderful!
Thank you. Hajusuuri sent me a little decant a year or so ago and after it was used up, my husband got me a fb. I think it’s one of his favorites too. There is a note in it that reminds me of the smell from the inside of an old Balinese theater mask I used to own.
Very late but sampled Rhubarbe Ecarlate today and wasn’t terribly impressed…
Too much white musk (I’d call it) and not very interesting. Moving on to Neroli tomorrow.
Such sad news…hope everyone hugs their loved ones extra tight tonight.
L’Air du Temps to remind me of a dear friend.
In the meantime, Robin, have you seen this:

I am still on the 3/21 issue but I will get to it, thanks so much!
SOTD Apres l’Ondee. For two reasons: one to recognize all the tears being shed today and the hope that there may be healing; and two to honour World Water Day. I rarely buy bottled water and not just for environmental reasons. It’s because I do not want to support the acceptance that water is a resource under the control of private entities and should command exorbitant prices.
I hope you’re not suggesting that people have a RIGHT to water!? I mean – that might cancel out certain individuals’ rights to become multi-gazillion-gazillion-aires…
That is a very scary thought. Our bodies are made mostly of water and we need to consume a fair amount of it to survive. I’m hoping that technology catches up with shortages and we use our brilliant human brains to figure out how to manufacture fresh water successfully de-salinate sea water. Then we can build a giant squirt gun and squirt the greedy gazillionaire fat cats in the eye with it.
I somehow felt like taking a stand for perfumistas this morning when I woke up. So I put on vintage Fidji. Lots of it.
When I got to work and read about what had happened in Brussels, Fidji and I immediately sent wafts of strength, courage, and comfort to all our dear perfumistas (indeed, all citizens) in Europe. We stand with you.
SOTD yesterday was Hiram Green Shangri-La, inspired by Perfume Day. I decided to make this week’s theme, “Things I Love but Haven’t Been Wearing Because I Don’t Have Much Left,” which will also describe the perfume I have in mind for Friday. Today I wore Amouage Fate, which was quite nice for a chilly (by Southern California standards), windy evening watching pony baseball.
