Atelier Cologne Bergamote Soleil ~ fragrance review

Posted by Jessica on 17 March 2016 17 Comments

Atelier Cologne Bergamote Soleil

Atelier Cologne recently launched Bergamote Soleil, the latest addition to its Cologne Absolue collection. Bergamote Soleil's composition includes top notes of bergamot, bigarade and ambrette; heart notes of jasmine, lavender and cardamom; and base notes of vetiver, oak moss and white amber. And like every Atelier Cologne fragrance, this one comes with a story:

They drove all night long taking turns... The minivan was the same one they had when they first met. He spotted it instantly, driving along the line of bergamot trees leading up to the villa. The table was already set for lunch. He wasn’t surprised to see them. It was as if they had always been together. This moment was a blessing and a reminder of so many treasured years.

Comfort, companionship, a Mediterranean setting — we're on familiar ground here with Atelier Cologne. Bergamot feels very true to the brand's spirit and its "Collection Originale"; I was actually surprised to realize that Atelier hadn't already released a bergamot-themed fragrance. It seems like a natural fit. Bergamote Soleil is a very tart citrus blend with a woody underside. The bigarade (bitter orange) adds some sharpness to balance the juicier bergamot. The whole thing ends up feeling pretty zesty. It also offers a hint of lime, although maybe that's my imagination; in any case, this scent would complement a warm day and a chilly gin-and-tonic very nicely. The spice accents are very subtle while the woods are "natural" and more present underneath the extended development of the zingy fruit notes.

Atelier Cologne has very good staying power for a citrus-centered fragrance; I don't know how Atelier manages this, but I'm impressed. And I'm in a citrus mood this week, so I've been layering various orange-y and lemon-y body products too: LUSH Yuzu and Cocoa Shower Cream, Soapwalla Citrus Deodorant, CocoaPink Orange & Amber Body Lotion (from my latest Boxwalla box!). Add a generous spritz of Bergamote Soleil, and I'm ready for spring (and summer).

Atelier Cologne Bergamote Soleil is available as 30 ($70), 100 ($120) and 200 ($195) ml "Cologne Absolue." For purchasing information, see the listing for Atelier Cologne under Perfume Houses.

Used to love citrusy scents, not any more for some reason. Still have my older bottles of Eau d’Hadrien and Miller Harris Tangerine Vert, and like them but haul out very rarely. So far I’ve not gotten into anything from Atelier, but have samples of Santal Carmin and Rendez-Vous waiting in the wings.
Oh Jessica, was just at N-M, and the MFK SA told me they’re coming out with a body cream for A la Rose…would love to hear a review!

Wearing L’Artisan Mandarine today. Probably L’Artisan should learn from Atelier how to make a better staying power on this one, nevertheless I fully enjoy my Mandarine.

Oh, that was a nice one. Some of my favorite L’Artisan scents don’t last long on me…even Drole de Rose, but also Poivre Piquant, Extrait de Songes…

I can’t help but think of Jean Nate when I see this, and it makes me think I’d really like it.

Jean Nate is always a good association to have, in my book!

I like Jean Nate in the summer – I actually have some of the dusting powder which is great for after bath and they layers well with about any cologne available. It’s nice to have fun with fragrance and be extravagant and splashy!

I have been looking forward to trying this even though I have had no luck with this line. There’s something in the drydown of all that I have tried that gets on my nerves, but I will remain optimistic about this one. Hotter that you know where already down here and this sounds like it would work nicely. The fact that you were impressed impresses me and leads my to believe I should sample quick like a fox!

I have some loves in this line, but also some “ehs.” You never know! All in all, I think the collection is well-done. Hope you’ll like this one!

Got a chance to try this and I agree- perfect summer citrus! I liked it a lot. I also noticed that it’s a gwp right now at Bergdorf’s. That’s a PSA not enabling… ????????

Oh, nice! So exciting when BG does gifts-with-purchase. Also, Atelier is pretty good about offering them from time to time, too, on the website and in their boutiques.

It does feel even more cologne-like than my other “colognes absolues” in this collection!

When I first tried it, it felt like a punch in the face. I haven’t tried it since but now that I know, I will be prepared for it.

Wow! This seems like a fragrance true to my heart. I love Orange Sanguine from this line and I also love a good citrusy fragrance. Can’t wait to try this.

This one sounds lovely, and perfect for dreaming of summer!
I have Silver Iris, which is a love for me, and want to try Rose Anomyne on skin, it’s gorgeous on the test strip I had.
Really pleased to hear the staying power is good, a major consideration for me, when purchasing an expensive perfume.

I bet this is the first time a mini van had been used in perfume ad copy.
