The meetup poll, episode 1

Posted by Robin on 27 February 2016 217 Comments

Dior world flower map

(PSA: a "regular" lazy weekend poll is coming up shortly!)

Want to meet local perfumistas? Here's your chance to find out if there's anyone near you who would like to get together to...have coffee? go perfume shopping? attend a local scent-related event? Anything really — this is very loose. You can use this poll to find others for a specific event, or just to build a contact list of local perfumistas for future planning.

It would make it much easier for everyone else (and help prevent duplicate efforts) if the very first words in your post were the name of your city or local area! If you're responding to an existing thread, that's obviously not necessary.

If we get a decent response today, we'll do this again in the fall. Hat tip to Regina for the idea!

Note: world flower map [color altered] via Dior at Facebook.

    Atlanta, GA!

Hooray, so excited to see how this works. If you want to participate in a meetup in the Atlanta area, please email me – my email address is my username plus doublemint, all one word, at gmail (leave a comment, too, so others can get an idea who all’s coming). I will collect the responses and send out an email to poll you about what kind of meetup we would like to have. And please do email me even if you see this late – hopefully we will keep local meetuppery going beyond this one event! Looking forward to meeting you all!

I would like to meet in Boston. I had created a meet up group just to meet and talk about perfumes (no sales or marketing).

I am new to this blog so if it is not allowed please let me know before getting angry on me.

If you want to create a different group then please let me know how to join and I will be happy to. My email is surbhimalpani at gmail

King of Prussia PA / Philadelphia PA / Wilmington DE

I’m in between Wilmington & Philly, vaguely, and would love to build a list of locals who would be interested in meeting sometime in late March / early April. I had thought King of Prussia might be a sensible meeting place, but I’m open to suggestions! Do leave a comment and tell us where you are, and then send an email to robin at nstperfume dot com

      Philly/Wilmington area and Baltimore too!

Hi Robin – I have been reading this blog for awhile, but was finally inspired to register and join the community for the chance to meet fellow perfumistas in my area. I almost fell off my chair when I realized that you are right around the corner from me!

I am in Elkton, MD which is right next to the Delaware border. Within an hour or less of driving, I can easily access Baltimore, MD and surrounding counties (which is where I am from originally), Lancaster & King of Prussia, PA (my husband works 2 min. from the mall-btw), Wilmington (25 min) & Newark, DE (10 min), and even places in southern NJ (below Trenton) are accessible. I would definitely love to meet up in late March or early April if possible.

At the moment, I am making plans to go visit the Philly Flower show next week because I am in serious need of some fragrant flowering blooms to drive the cold winter away!

Sending you an email so you have my contact info.

    New York City

Today, a bunch of us are attending a Sniffapalooza / Demeter blending class in downtown NYC. while it’s to late to plan a new meet up today, if you are interested in being informed of meet-ups with or without an associated event, send me an email (click on my name) and I’ll add you to our mailing list. We just ask that we only refer to each other in public online forums with our NST name.

If you are visiting the area, do let us know as well as one or more of us may be interested in meeting up with you although don’t be insuslted if none of us can make it — we’ll still have recommendations!

And finally, be warned, we have a tendency to stink up a place :-)

There can be quite long lines for it. However, I once got there late afternoon, around 5:30, and was able to get in after only 15 or so minutes wait. I think it’s sort of catch-as-catch can.

    Vancouver, BC!

Okay, we met up literally yesterday, but had such a fun time we plan to do it again, maybe in the early spring. The excellent idea of a drink afterwards was floated. Since I am not sure you can simply click above to get my address it’s: a123amos at inbox dot com.

I live near Richmond, Va, but would definitely consider traveling to the DC area to visit Arielle’s shop and meet some fellow perfume lovers, especially if I could get there via train and metro (rather than driving). Thus far, except for the first weekend in April I am free all of that month. My email is lisa dot stahl at ymail dot com.

      Hi everyone!

stinker_kit and I have exchanged emails in the past in regards to a meetup at Arielle Shoshana, Ari’s shop here in NoVa. As of today, we’re thinking Saturday, April 16th would work for us and those who have commented thus far. I’ve sent Ari an email to confirm that she’ll be in the store on that day, and to see if there would be a preferred time. I know that some of you will be traveling, so hopefully we can work this out to take that into consideration as well. If you have any thoughts regarding the date/time or anything else, please email me at harukirumi in the land of yahwhooo etc.

        Update 3/5/16!

Ari has confirmed she will be in the shop on 4/16/16, so that’s the meetup date. I will update with the time once those who are traveling are able to let me know their ETA. If you want to take mass tran, the metro stop is near to the Mosaic center where Arielle Shoshana is. My contact info is above.

I think Saks has the best selection locally for sniffing a variety of things. I believe Kuhl-Linscomb has more niche though, and I’ve never been there and want to go! And there’s always Hermes and Chanel for sniffing their lines. I live north of town so I visit our Nordstrom far more often than The Galleria, but it’s possible to do some serious damage for sure.

Hello! I actually live near the Galleria, so wherever is fine. Kuhl Linscimb has great stuff though it doesn’t seem to update regularly.

Our Neiman Marcus has all sorts of goodies too.

Hello fellow Houstonians! I live on the northwest side of town off of 249. Not too far away from Willowbrook mall. Unfortunately. I won’t be able to make it this time. If this pans out, I would love to meet up with you guys in the fall. I am nearing my date to have another full knee replacement surgery and am in a lot of pain. Trying to stay off my feet as much as possible. Let me know how things turn out for you guys. I agree with you ladies about Neimans in the Galleria. They know me by name there because I frequent that location so much. Have fun!

I live just a little ways west of the Galleria (for now.. that may change later this year). I go to the Galleria and Kuhl-Linscomb sometimes. The Galleria probably has the highest concentration of sniffing options, what with Saks, Neiman Marcus, the Chanel boutique and Hermes just up the street (which I’ve never gone into). Sloan/Hall can be a good one too, if they’re still open. They’re at Westheimer/Kirby near Kuhl-Linscomb, and their perfume selection isn’t huge, but they had some good stuff like ELdO.

I am also in Houston. I live centrally in Montrose and visit both Kuhl-Linscomb and Sloan-Hall more often than I care to admit (since I also am a jewelry hog). Sloan-Hall has a really nice collection of Carons and a few other interesting lines. The last time I was there, the ElDO selections were very few and scattered. I would love to meet people sometime. E-mail is cfreeland9999 at yahoo.

I live about 50 miles south of Houston, so it doesn’t matter too much to me exactly where the meetup would be. Once a have to drive an hour or so to get to Houston, a few miles more is no big deal. I have been in Kuhl-Linscomb several times, and they do have a good selection of niche perfume, as well as a nice selection of candles. The SAs mostly leave you alone, too, so you can sniff to your heart’s content without feeling pressured to hurry up and buy something. Saks and NM in the Galleria both are good too (too bad they are at opposite ends of the mall! it is quite a walk between them) as well as (in my experience at least) nice SAs. I’ve never been to Sloan/Hall, but it does sound interesting.

I’m not in Houston. North of Austin, actually, but it’s Texas and driving is what we do ;) I’m not sure I can meet up with you this time, but if my schedule allows I wouldn’t mind the drive for the next meetup. Haven’t given Houston a proper shopping in years, but I cringe to think of the dollars I’ve blown at sloan/hall, and not just on perfume.

Today I’m wearing EL Azuree. I held over from last weeks leather project. Have some old EL Beautiful Love pulling out for Friday.

I’d love to get together anytime after I recover from surgery. I’m always game for a Galleria trip!

Would love to meet others in and around London- we could go to Liberty, Harrods and/or Les Senteurs- open to other places of course! Any particular brands or stores in mind? I’m afraid I do most of my perfume shopping online, especially since I am heavily into vintage. But we have Cow parfymeri, run by this lovely and very knowledgeable couple, and the big department store with slightly less knowledgeble and lovely SA:s ;) Also we have a recently opened Chanel boutique that I would love to visit, just haven’t had time.

I used to live in Uppsala for many years while I studied. Back then I went on sniffing tours once in a while, to NK (yes, the SAs there are rather stroppy) and COW (lovely little place). I’d also love to visit the Byredo brand store right across the street from COW, I’ve walked past lots of times, but never ventured inside. And, while I’m not very fond of Chanel, a Chanel boutique might still be a worthy experience!

Unless there are some perfume meccas hiding in the region (and if there are, please tell!), this would be more of a “sniff from our own collections” meet-up. I feel pretty isolatd here, perfume-wise, and would be glad to make some connections.

I’m up for either Santana Row or SF. Actually would prefer SF since Santana Row/Valley Fair is my local, so I’ve trolled that place repeatedly. Although who knows, the Dior Beauty shop may *finally* be open by then (snort, they’ve had ‘Opening Soon!’ signs up for well over a year.) There’s also Stanford Mall which has some more high end stuff since they have Nieman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s.

… but I would like to visit SF for sniffing purposes. I’ve (gasp) never been to a proper perfume store, we could visit Tigerlily. And Union Square has Chanel, Barney’s, Hermes, etc etc etc, enough to blow several bank accounts….

Tiger lily is great. It is a bit small – they only carry 15-20 brands, but nice selection

There are a whole bunch of Bay Area perfumistas who meet up already. There is a FB page SF Sniff for them. You can contact me (Berkeley, CA) at nina at wanderingmind dot com.
