It's Tuesday, and it's the Winter Solstice. What fragrance are you wearing?
I layered Hermès Cuir d'Ange with Hermès Eau Claire des Merveilles.
Reminder: this coming Friday we will not have a community project. But on Monday 12/28, we'll do a special Monday project...we'll be posting our annual Best of 2015 list, so wear one of your own Best of 2015 fragrances.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Slim d'Hermès Mille Fleurs du Mexique watch probably costs a gajillion dollars, but I cannot find the price. Perhaps best not to know, and only 6 were made anyway.
Rainy day for our office xmas party. I kept thinking: at least it’s not snow. Granted, I’d like a white xmas, but it’s clearly not happening.
I’m wearing Osmanthe Yunnan, sent to me by the lovely Annikky.
We are cousins 🙂
😀
I was wondering about your layering today. Is the leather from Ange that prominent with the EdM? That sounds like a fantastic combination.
It’s only a very very subtle difference…I am dabbing the Cuir d’Ange because only have a sample. Might work better if I had the full size.
OY is a lovely choice for a rainy December day. I kinda wish for a white Christmas, but really I’m enjoying this exceptionally mild winter.
Me too. It’s nice having a break from the bitter cold we’ve had for the past few years.
I would really prefer -2c and snow, maybe someday it will happen but not this week…
I’d be ok with the snow too. It makes the season feel more real. Maybe in January we’ll get some.
You smell loooooooovely. That is one of the most beautiful scents I’ve experienced. If only it lasted longer on my scent-eating skin.
Same. It’s fading fast on me too.
OY is my fave Hermessence. You smell great.
I can see why so many people like it. It’s really lovely.
Is it bad to say that I wouldn’t mind if it were snowing 😉
Not at all! In fact, it would be really nice if all this rain we are getting this week would turn to snow for a white xmas, but the likelihood of that is nil. It’s going to be over 60F on xmas day!
Oriza’s Heliotrope Blanc…making me think I should bake. Am trying Kusmi’s Irish Blend, perfectly nice but no better than River Shannon Blend.
Good to know, have never tried that Kusmi. I like the River Shannon too although lately my first cup in the morning is usually the CTC Irish, followed by a cup of Bond Street English Breakfast.
Felt like something light and crisp today, so I went with JM Earl Grey & Cucumber.
Sampling biehl parfumkunstwerke eo03, a pretty white floral
Good morning! Today my husband presented me with a bottle of Ormonde Jayne Ta’if for our 20-year anniversary as a couple. I’m thrilled to have a wonderful husband and perfume. 🙂
I had already put on the last of my OJ Tolu sample (another beauty), so that is my SOTD. But I know I’ll be wearing Ta’if a lot in the near future!
Oooh lovely! Happy anniversary 🙂
Congrats on the new bottle and the awesome hubby!
Happy anniversary! Great perfume gift! Hope you have many happy more years
Happy anniversary! You obviously have a great husband.
Happy 20th Anniversary….Sounds like your hubs is a keeper for 20 more!! 🙂
Happy Anniversary, and here’s to the next 20!
Happy Anniversary!
A wonderful gift for a happy anniversary 🙂
Happy anniversary! I’ve only tried Ormonde Woman from the Ormonde line, but I have a feeling I’d love Taif.
Sounds like a keeper – both the perfume and the husband. Congrats and hope you have many more!
Happy anniversary!
I’m wearing an OJ as well – OJ Man. I don’t like it as much as the Woman version, but its very nice. I’ll have to try T’aif next (I just bought the sample set).
I just bought the sample set, too! I’ll have to try OJ Woman next.
Congratulations! ????
Happy anniversary! Lovely gift from your man.
Aww! How sweet <3 He is keeper
Thanks, everyone! I highly recommend that any rose lover try Ta’if.
Congratulations! Could your DH give mine a little training on gift-giving? 🙂 Mine has many positive qualities but gifting leaves him paralytic. Ah well, I have learned to suffer thru it and buy my own gifts (ahem)
My trick is sending my husband an email with a link to what I would not mind receiving, if he were so inclined. Works out well for both of us. 😉
Yes, I circle things in catalogs, with size and color info, and hand my husband a big pile, and he gets a charge out of looking through them all and choosing the stuff he likes from the range I have given him. That way, he has devoted time and energy to looking for the perfect thing, and we both know he will have chosen well. Everybody happy!
I buy my own, too.
Every now and then my husband will hit one out of the park – like, our first Christmas, 23 years ago? I asked for a ceramic Nativity set. It was perfect, just what I wanted, and it’s been gracing our decor ever since. (Turns out his sister picked it out.)
Usually, even if I leave hints or email page links or leave a sale paper with an item prominently circled – he’s all, “What, did you want one of these? Why don’t you just go get it and I’ll wrap it up for you?”
Yeah. At least I wind up with things I like. 😉
Happy anniversary! He sounds like a keeper 😉
Happy anniversary! Ta’if is lovely.
You trained him well. Happy Anniversary!
Well….The hubs was sound asleep as I was sneaking around in the dark, so I decided to play “Sampler Roulette” so as not to wake him. Reached in my sampler basket without turning the light on, and let fate control the SOTD!
Wearing Versace Eros pour Femme. MEH. Might be OK as a summer evening scent…it’s acceptable but not blowing my skirt up. I just read Robin’s review and it made me laugh! She was definitely not impressed with this one either! LOL Ah well….tomorrow is a new day with a new scent! 🙂
Wow, I’ve so thoroughly forgotten Eros Pour Femme that I had to go read the review myself!
Sampler Roulette sounds like a fun game! Too bad the result was meh. At least now you know and can winnow down your samples by one.
Yes, a freebie meet coming up!
OMG, y’all I am finally back to wearing perfume after being sick for like a week, and it feels so good! I wore scent all weekend! And today! In fact, I was so overwhelmed with options today that I went for my old standby Caleche.
It’s good to have a functional nose again, and to want to wear scent again. Happy Solstice, everyone!
A classy lady!
Glad you are feeling better 🙂
It’s funny how being sick really does take away the joy of scent….Enjoy it today!
Glad your feeling better. This cold I have is still hanging on. I am not into this temperature fluctuation we are having at the moment. One minute in my winter coat-the next-windows are open..
Enjoy your day with Caleche
Welcome back to the scented world!
Glad you’re feeling better!
Glad you are feeling better……..felt just like you a few days ago. Having pneumonia for weeks and almost hospitalized for it is NO FUN!!!! Fragrance is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?
Feminite du Bois today for the going-away party that my job is throwing for me, because I wanted to smell most like myself, and that is what this scent does for me.
Happy Winter Solstice, y’all!
If you’re taking on a new job, best wishes, and if you’re taking a break, enjoy yourself! It is such a bleak day here–good to read something cheery. The folks at my one-day place of work failed to tell me there would be no paper this week, so I have nothing to do. I’ll just allow them to pay me for playing euchre and reading NST.
Happy Solstice and congrats on moving on to a new job. Hope you have a good time at your party. 🙂
Hope your new job offers you a salary to budget for new perfume adventures
You smell fabulous! Happy Holidays, and congrats on the new job!
What sweet co-workers you have. Hope you enjoy the party!
I look forward to hearing more about it the next time we see each other! Congratulations!
Cuir D’Ange as well.
I was rummaging for some violet notes amongst my samples to ramp up that violet facet, but I realised I don’t have any actual violet-centred perfumes. So, I went in for a good-old Nivea cream before applying Cuir D’Ange — perfect for the wintry dryness.
Hey twin!
I am wearing Avalon Juniper, Pacifica Perfumes homage to winter solstice with notes of juniper berries, heliotrope and grapefruit. I am down to my very last bottle so I only wear it once a year on Winter solstice.
I’ve never smelled this but it sounds perfect for Winter Solstice. Enjoy!
it is fantastic but, sadly, discontinued which is why I only wear it once a year 🙁
I love the idea of having a perfume that you wear once a year for the winter solstice. Makes it very special!
I am wearing Givenchy Oblique RWD, the sadly discontinued spiced cherry and woods. I wonder if this one was released ahead of its time. It smells like it shoud be a big hit and doesn’t smell dated, though it as an attempt to be trendy fifteen years ago.
I am drinking a cup of Bi Luo Chun Hong Cha, a Yunnan tea black tea with leaves that are rolled into little spirals. It has hints of honey, cocoa and almost no bitterness.
That tea sounds very interesting! I’m going to look out for it.
It really does!
I found Yunnan Black Snails in my Upton Tea Quarterly – think I need to order some…
Kiss me Tender for a virtual bag of sweets!
Perfect, you smell fantastic.
This one is super sweet but somehow works beautifully, unlike so many sweet fragrances on the market.
I agree with you on that. Trust Patricia de Nicolaï to handle sweet notes in a way that makes them wonderful.
That’s good stuff.
That watch is stunning!
I put on an Hermes bracelet in its’ honor????
SOTD is JM orris and sandalwood day 4
Rainy commute here I come.
I like the watch too. I don’t even wear a watch anymore, but I’d wear that.
Good luck with the commute!
Well it’s Los Angeles, so it’s never a good commute… But hey we needs this rain so much!
I wear a Cartier watch that is almost 40 years old. It was an early anniversary gift from my then husband and I love it so much. My arm doesn’t feel complete without it. It’s lasted 2x longer than my marriage!
It’s good to have a reminder of the good times in each marriage! Especially something that nice!
I am curious to hear more about how you’re liking that Orris & Sandalwood! I tested it yesterday and was on the fence, sorta can’t decide what I think. Especially as it dried down, I liked it more, but I think the $170 pricetag is maybe affecting my impression of it–I suspect that if it were a $125 bottle in their regular line, I’d be much more impressed (as I was with Mimosa & Cardamom.)
I love it a lot. Nordstrom was so busy the other night, I sprayed it on tester card and then in myself then shopped for about 2 hours and decided to purchase it. I almost told the SA no when I saw her ring the price, but I guess it was meant to be and I knew o could return it no problems. The orris is rooty, a tad smoky and warms up with the sandalwood. The staying power is more than 8 hours and the sillage doesn’t shout, it’s close to me. nothing I’m afraid to wear to office or on a plane close to others.
Totally agree with your description! And you’ve probably accounted for why it wasn’t true love for me–I am ambivalent on orris, so rootiness isn’t necessarily a virtue, and presently have no office rules motivating me to keep things quiet. But I can fully see how, under other circumstances, it could be just perfect! It really is very nicely executed, creamy, well-blended and clearly made of good ingredients.
I got my sample today from Macys! In fact, the SA saw I had 2 atomizers and asked if I wanted the 2nd one filled. My mama didn’t raise no fool!
I like the rooty iris and it blends well with the sandalwood. I may amp it up with some vanilla. In any case, this may be a candidate to be split as I don’t need 100 mLs of this.
I tried to love this as I do with all JM fragrances. At the launch party, everyone was SHOCKED that I wasn’t blown away. The last few launches, I have not been wowed by them; especially not Mimosa & Cardamom. I just walked away with a bottle of Dark Amber & Ginger Lily. Guess it goes to show that we can’t like ’em all.
Do you like iris in general and if you do, which ones? I agree with you that no one can like them all.. Some come close 🙂
I would happily participate in a split of this! Put me on the lust and let me know if you decide to do so!
I have the day off and am relaxing with my foster dog snoring on my lap. No scent but eau de dog right now. Later I’m baking cookies. I’m working Christmas Day at the shelter, and want to bring in treats for all my co-workers and volunteers. Might test CdG Black today as well.
Eau de Dog in my favorite 🙂
You are doing good work! I love animals and we have always adopted rescues.
I’d trade my fave perfume for Eau de Dog ANYTIME!!! 🙂
Today is my last day of work until Jan. 4, hurray! I wanted to wear something I hadn’t worn in a while, and grabbed one of my Tokyo Milk Dark scents, La Vie La Mort. It is actually working for me today, although sometime I find these scents too cloying to wear. Today’s mixture of damp and warm, with fog, seems to suit the fragrance, and I sprayed more lightly than normal.
Ditto! It’s nice to have such a long break. I technically have a 1/2 WFH day tomorrow, but we all know what that means :p
Vintage Balmain Ivoire for me today.
I just got a tiny bottle of this at an antique store and I adore it! It is not my usual type of thing and so it is filling an empty slot nicely. I’ve seen it unfavorably compared to Chanel 19, but I find Ivoire more interesting and more wearable.
Agree about the wearability of Ivoire
I’ve only sampled No 19 a couple of times, but I think of Ivoire as being a little more…sunny, maybe? Now I need to dig out my samples for a side-by-side comparison.
No scent today and now for evening Infusion d’Iris EDP. I’ve been enjoying this one a lot lately.
Stunning watch! SOTD for me is AG Nuit étoilée. One of my favorite fragrances!
One of my favorites also. Gorgeous!
I’m sampling DSH Le Smoking – the mix of smoke and perfume really reminds me of my grandmother.
I like that one. Your grandmother must have distinctive!
Sadly the Grandma memory didn’t last 🙁 Nor did much scent at all. Oh well, at least I get a brief Proust moment. My skin devours scent anyway, and high-natural perfumes seem to go all the faster. (Whereas I have a friend on whom Jo Malone scents will last 18+ hours…of course, she’s a nail polish fiend and envies me my “free edge”. Ain’t that always the way?)
I’m in amber ylang-ylang over a jasmine and mint body lotion. Jasmine and mint works well together, as I suppose I should’ve expected, given how delicious tuberose is with it! I’m feeling pretty opulent.
Wow! You smell GREAT!
Commenting earlier today – up two hours before the usual time to catch an early plane. All the talk of Ormond Jayne has worked on me, I’m thinking a light spritz of Orris Noir won’t be too much on a short plane trip.
Sounds perfect! 🙂
My SOTD is Eau de Rochas. Its unseasonably warm and rainy here, and will be until after Christmas.
That’sounds a great scent for warm weather. You smell great!
Oops…That scent is great for warm weather…
Eau De Rochas is fabulous! Worth having even if you have other summer eaux. Love the cold, wet stone effect.
Yummmmm eau de Rochas! I wish there were a drink that tasted like it smells…
Shalimar Soufflé-this sample is a bottomless pit.
I am really upset with Amazon. Ordered a package for my secret santa on December 5th and it still has not arrived, contacted the seller last week and they waited until yesterday to mail out a new one. Ugh! And they are using the same currier service. I don’t know if it will arrive in time and I am not a happy. Now I am thinking I may have to find a store that carries the item. Between the rain and me being at the end of my pregnancy I am not looking forward to shopping right now. End of rant
Trying times!
If the planned gift doesn’t arrive in time, you might give them a holiday card with a note that the present is on the way, to be delivered soon. It would be fun to know that there is another present arriving during the post-holiday, back-to-work let down.
right now I am also beside myself…ordered three bottles from Dame Perfumery for three different recepeints that live close by….apparently the boxes were on their way to the local post office on Monday…last Monday….as of today they are still in transit!!! I contacted Dame who told me to be patient as the USPS is struggling with deliveries…however, they were supposed to be Christmas gifts and given that I ordered them at the onset of December I allowed for ample time….also, I paid for them!!!! The credit card bill came in at the beginning of the month and I just paid it as I have ordered from Dame on numerous occasions and never had an issue…it is really frustrating….I tried emailing the USPS (didn’t work), calling the USPS (on hold for an hour to be told the same info that was appearing online …..”in transit and expected to arrive by December 15th”) and calling the local post office where it was going to (the phone is off the hook). What is also frustrating is that it was supposed to be a surprise but I have had to ask the recipients several times whether or not they received it yet….one kept asking her postman every day and he finally said that the vendor (Dame) really should file a claim as it probably is lost…
next year I am going to be a scrooge and no more presents!
oh yes, and it was supposed to be priority two day mail!
Ok ranting is now done.
Ok so I just have to say that Mr. Dame of Dame Perfumery is amazing! Just got off the phone with him and he is going to send the recipients new bottles and they will arrive in time for Christmas! 🙂
Yay really happy it got sorted!
How nice that he’s resending them!
I can sympathize with your USPS experience. I just checked the tracking number for something I ordered weeks ago—it’s been showing for the last week or so that it just left Memphis—and it is now apparently in Guam. (I’m in California, so that’s quite a detour.) It’s not a gift and I’m in no particular hurry to get it, so I’ll just wait for a while and see if it makes its way back, but the mail does get interesting this time of year.
That’s awesome. That also shows that he actually cares and values his customers. I admire that! Shows a lot of class as well. Not many willing to do such a thing.
Shipping packages this season from USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc…. has been a nightmare all around for everyone. Hopefully next year they will all be better prepared to accommodate the needs of consumers.
I made a 2nd Yves Rocher order and the website is not even recognizing my invoice number. The prompt was for a 9 digit code and the invoice number had 8. I tried adding a zero at the beginning and also tried adding a zero at the end instead. Nope. I will try again later and if there is no indication of the order anywhere, I will file a claim.
I just got my MiN order and it’s not all there. I’m pretty steamed since I know the products are all sold out and these were actually replacement gifts since I’ve had several packages go astray this year.
My poor husband is now getting nothing 🙁 I ordered him a custom gift months ago from an Etsy seller who pulled out at the last minute because they couldn’t handle the workload, then I ordered something else and got a refund notification because they had miscounted their stock and accidentally oversold.
Shalimar Souffle? Sounds yum! What’s it like?
I feel you on the delivery woes. I’ve had major problems with Amazon shipping this year, including twice never receiving the packages, although they did refund me. Really not cool when paying for Amazon Prime.
Yeah, it’s not like they knock off a piece of the Amazon Prime cost…
Ugh. I really hope yours gets solved. I’ve just found I’m now also in the boat of missing Christmas presents 🙁 Mine’s at least partly my own fault having ordered it much later, but they really should not promote two-day delivery if they can’t do it–now seeing that something I ordered last week for delivery yesterday wasn’t even given to USPS until last night. Blarg.
My office is having its Christmas party today so I am wearing Five O’Clock Au Gingembre. IMO, a perfect Christmas party scent.
I agree! I wore Five O’Clock Au Gingembre to a Christmas party last Saturday, with an additional small spritz of Un Bois Vanille.
Have fun at your party.
Nice. I’ll have to try that.
Yes, it is! One of my favorite bottles for the holidays.
SOTD: Eau Noire (Dior). Absolutely yummy on this cloudy dreary day in the Midwest. 🙂
I loved Eau Noire when I tried it. Such an interesting combo of lavender and immortelle.
I’m a pagan at heart, and am welcoming the new sun in Azemour les Oranges.
Perfect choice!
🙂
I just wore that yesterday from my brand-new bottle. You smell delicious!
I’m envious of your BNB (my spritzes today were from a sample) … but I have my very own BNB under the Solstice Tree just waiting to be unwrapped. It says it’s from my husband, but we all know better. 🙂
I’m wearing Mitsouko today. It’s seasonally appropriate, if not weather appropriate. It’s okay. Not a favorite.
I wore Shalimar to bed last night, and I do like that pretty well. I wouldn’t choose it over Jicky, which it reminds me of, but I would wear it again.
Speaking of Jicky, I’ve got a 3.1oz EdT spray, the refill for the gold bottle, in my cart on fragrancenet for $65.09. That seems inexpensive going by what I’ve seen on Ebay. But I don’t know if what I’ve smelled is the modern Jicky or not. I got it from The Perfumed Court, and it was not labeled as vintage, so I feel like it is the modern stuff, but I’m not sure. Anyone have any advice?
I went thru a Jicky sampling bout a few months ago. My advice is to see if you can find a store where you can sniff all the current variations (parfum vs edp vs edt), as they are all quite different. In my area, Nieman Marcus has all 3, and they will make free samples for you. IMO: the modern parfum still has the famous skank, though not as much as even vintage edt; the current edt is the easiest to wear; and the current edp is in between the current edt and current parfum in terms of projection and ease-of-wear.
I know it’s ever so hard to NOT click the ‘buy’ button, but in the case of Jicky, more research is warranted 🙂
Thank you pixel! I will do my research. It’s very hard to not click that button, but I do want to make sure that I love what I have, especially in a bottle that size. I suspect I have the current EdT, because I don’t find it to be skanky at all.
I’m going to have to plan a shopping day, after Christmas, and go to the “big” mall in town. There’s a NM there, as well as a fully stocked Sephora, Bloomingdale’s, and a Saks right across the street. I should be able to do some serious sniffing.
This is a great time of year to luxuriate in the classic Guerlains!
It is! They suit this time of year quite nicely.
I wore Mitsouko a few times before it clicked with me. Now it’s a favorite.
I love wearing Shalimar to bed. Pure luxury! 🙂
I’ll give Mitsouko another chance or two. I don’t dislike it, it just isn’t love at first sniff.
Shalimar is a good bed time scent. It’s warm and embracing, and luxurious. I’m pretty sure my dog is less than thrilled with my new perfume in bed habit, but he’s putting up with it.
I wore Shalimar the other night. It’s very cozy.
I’ve been craving Shalimar but have several things to do to day that will keep me from wearing it until later this evening.
I also have a question: has anyone ever bought things on bonanza.com? It seems to be an alternative to ebay as a site where sellers can open online shops. I’m seeing attractive prices for decants in one of these shops.
RE: the wonderful watch, if you have to ask how much it is, you can’t afford it….
RE: SOTD doing a wrist to wrist comparison of Iris Nazarena and Scent of Hope…At first Iris Nazarena was all about the Iris, and Scent of Hope offers more of the buttery sweetish peachy bits… but now after several hours Iris Nazarena is starting to give me some of the spicy ambery drydown, and Scent of Hope has moved from Peach to Iris…I like them both, but Iris Poudre and VCA Bois d’Iris are still my favorite Iris’s, so I won’t be needing a FB of Iris Nazarena, although I will see how fast I go through this sample, maybe I would get a decant later. It starts off with some minty or airy bits – maybe it is better in the summer?
Also re the wonderful watch: even with my fancy new eyes, I can’t read it! It’s pretty, but non-functional for me.
Oh, tell us about your fancy new eyes! So brave…
Re: so true about affordability! That’s the story of my life. LoL!
My mom has always said that I have champagne taste on a Coca-Cola budget.
31 Rue Cambon today.
Oh, perfect! Nothing is better, for any day or night or occasion or non-occasion. Have you read Anniky’s blog post on the pleasures of overdressing? I did, and promptly started wearing my Exclusifs to do the ironing…to take an afternoon nap…to tidy my wardrobe (my husband’s wardrobe requires 19 and strong resolve!). Enjoy your day in the glory of 31RC.
No, I haven’t read that but now I’m going to! Thanks! 🙂
Perfect, as always.
Hello, all. I’m propping my eyelids open after a worse than usual night’s sleep, so I will shortly search my green shelf something sharp and crisp. I think it will be Narcusse Bleu or Silences. Or something else. Anything cool and revivifying. The dear man comes home today from visiting his mother. I’m glad, because I’ve missed him badly, even though it has been only four short days since he left. I do love Dakkie and Izzy, and they are very companionable in a feline way, but they don’t talk much, and also, I’m slightly cross with Dak at the moment. He was playing with one of his knitted mice and he chucked it into a particularly well balanced cup of tea! The mouse is unharmed, of course, but it ruined the tea. Instant grump!
Silly cats! Sometimes I wake up to find little toy mice in the most random places around my house.
So, you probably don’t want to hear, “Goooooooooooooal!!”
Nope. Idiot cat! But sweet….he’s draped over my knee now, purring peacefully!
Sampling today, still working my way thru Soivohles.
I am amused that you east coast folks won’t be getting a white Christmas, while here in the SF Bay Area, I might — the snow level for Xmas is currently forecast at around 2500 ft, and I live at 2100 ft, so… who knows!
ihadanidea: here’s more cheese recommendations for you. mmm, cheese… Black Diamond Cheddar. Cypress Grove Midnight Moon. Jarlsberg, of course, everyone likes that. Dubliner Cheddar with Stout. Tintern. Wensleydale. Gorgonzola Dolce. Young Mahon. Aged Mahon. Brillat Savarin! um, um, um… ok I’ll stop now. Oh, and when you’re really ready for serious cheese, Epoisses, which will give you a fine education for the inexplicable difference between scent and taste when it comes to stinky cheeses. Plus, if you order it in France and visibly enjoy it, you will amaze the locals. 🙂
Mmm, real Mahon made with real sheep’s milk is the best!!!
A friend of mine posted on FB recently the following challenge: you must name a cold after a cheese. (Don’t know why.) It can’t be Brie. What do you pick? I suggested Robiola.
D’oh! Child, not cold.
I thought you were serious about naming a cold so the sickies could say ” is still hanging on”
Hah! I put “cheesename” in between the greater and less than symbols and the word within disappeared!
Fun! Off the top of my head, Fontina and Edam don’t sound too terrible.
I could see “Stilton” being mistaken for one of those maiden name as son’s first name kind of Southern things, like “Jefferson” or “Carson”.
Should be wearing L’eau d’Hiver but I don’t have much left and it doesn’t feel like winter in Chicagoland, so I’m wearing Hove’s Vetivert instead…
Hove! I have one of their perfumes, Carnival, and I love it, but it is a summer floral fragrance. I would like to go back to NOLA and sniff some more of their offerings. 🙂
Love L’eau d’Hiver
One more day to go until Christmas break! Huzzah!
Am layering today- after shower spritz of Wasabi+Pear (Nest Fragrances) and then Amber and Ginger Lily. I smell like the world’s best soap and shampoo- which is not bad!
In an effort to get out of my holiday funk, I wore Francis Kurkijan A La Rose but I was putting away an old scarf that smelled like Byredo Gypsy Water so I am now in that. I haven’t worn this in ages and had nearly forgotten how much I love it!
Such a nice surprise to pull out a scarf and get a whiff of perfume.
Wearing Guerlain’s sadly discontinued Winter Delice.
Also, glad to have this forum in which to moan over the loss of my SSS Incense Pure decant, which came to grief on my flight this weekend. On the plus side, the makeup bag smells devine!
We mourn with you…..SSS Incense Pure, gone too soon, but not forgotten! 🙂
A moment of silence, spent with your nose inside the makeup bag….LOL!
I have been wanting to wear Amouage Homage for a while now, but kept getting sidetracked by other things in the wardrobe. So, today is the day, and it smells really good!
Such a great perfume, and also on my list to wear soon.
Hmm, so which is the best Amouage, I wonder? I guess I better just get a sample set and find out for myself. 🙂
I recently ordered the 9-set sampler from STC. Getting to know Amouage will be my project while off work for the winter break.
Ooooh, nine samples? Going there now! 🙂
SOTD is SSS Tabac Aurea. I was in a shop earlier and the salesperson helping me kept remarking how somebody was smelling so great and it took me awhile to realize she was talking about me!
So curious about that Hermes layering, Robin! I bet you smell fab.
Happy Winter Solstice, everyone!
Bottega Veneta for me on a cold, dark, rainy day. Very comforting.
Pulled out my sample of this today, too. We smell very nice. Have you tried the oil? I’ve heard good reports around here, but haven’t tried it yet.
I’m wearing Les Indes Galantes again, and today I’m getting mostly incense and a bit of leather. And of course vanilla—it is definitely a vanilla scent, but an interesting one.
How does it compare to Shalimar?
I haven’t tried them together, but I’d say this is a little thicker or denser than Shalimar, with less citrus. There is an orange note in Les Indes Galantes, but it’s very different from the lemony note in Shalimar. I also don’t get the animalic base note that I remember from some versions of Shalimar, just spices and incense and a very soft leather.
YOU GUYS. I just had truly the MOST bonkers perfume encounter. So, having just been talking about it with Hajusuuri, I stopped back into my nearest Prada boutique while out Christmas shopping. Chatted with the SA, still no Olfactories, sadness, sprayed the Infusions instead. SA let me sprayed all of them onto blotters, including Iris Cedre, but as I started to pick up IC’s blotter to sniff, he suddenly confessed, “Wait! I have to tell you something!”
The something: THE TESTER WAS FILLED WITH WATER!! It was, he said, “more of a placebo effect”!!
Apparently there was some sort of error and the testers they received for Iris Cedre were just empty bottles…and instead of just saying, “Sorry, we don’t have a tester for that one,” THEY FILLED THE TESTERS WITH WATER AND SET THEM OUT FOR PEOPLE TO SPRAY! He told me people regularly effuse about how terrific the scent is!!! Honestly this is a pretty obnoxious thing to do but I was so completely shocked, I couldn’t even be offended! Really what is the plan there?! I asked whether they eventually tell people, since, you know, they’ll get their bottle home to find it contains something very different from, you know, plain water! The answer (though honestly it got confusing) seemed to be, yes he did eventually tell people, before they purchased–but then why, if you’re trying to sell these bottles, you’d let someone spray and then announce you’ve played them for a fool…
It was wild. And also very interesting, for perfume trends: apparently there really are a goodly number of people who want to feel like they wear perfume, but don’t want to smell like they do!
I’m… stunned.
I can’t stop laughing. I can’t believe it really happened, IN REAL LIFE. And BOTH TESTERS. For some reason that’s even funnier to me, that they got two empty bottles for the same fragrance, and were like, “You know how we’re gonna solve this?? With two bottles of water!!”
Go Prada — water is probably easier to sell.
The truest Eau Claire of them all!
Was this the NYC store? I want to stay far, far away.
It wasn’t in NYC (hence, no Olfactories, alas), but OTOH, the fact that they received multiple empty bottles in lieu of testers makes me wonder whether other Prada boutiques received the same–like perhaps a whole batch of empty bottles was mistakenly produced and shipped. Still yes, one has to hope not all of the individual locations would choose to address the problem thusly!!
Thanks for a great laugh. What better Christmas present?
What the — . I am so angry for you!
I find that Hermes fragrances often play nicely together. I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles over the faint remains of last night’s Vanille Galante. Salty-citrus-vanilla. Delicious. Thanks for the inspiration, Robin!
Ooh, sounds great!
I suspect your combo worked better than mine!
On day 2 of No 19. I’m just love no19.
Yep!
Ditto on the love!
My daughter is on her way home from college!! She’ll get here this evening (it’s a 10-hour drive).
SOTD is No. 19, to combat a headache.
In Jour d’Hermes Absolu, to pretend I have lots of beautiful flowers in the house.
Hello my lovelies! I’ve been away from NST too much lately, but I am officially done with a semester from heck (started a new hybrid position, and the transition has been bumpy) and hope to do less lurking and more posting here again soon.
I wore C&E Wisteria to work today (my solid office go-to). But tonight I’m saying “hallelujah and ttfn” to the semester with generous sprays of Iris Poudre and a big glass of wine.
Wahoo!
SOTD = Chanel Coromandel + Prada Candy
Yep, I layered today based on a comment by Nick yesterday. Well, I should have known that Coromandel would wallop just about anything that was in its path and Prada Candy got spanked hard. I got the occasional whiffs of caramel. For some odd reason, my Starbucks Venti half-caf bold in the AM and my iced Flat White in the afternoon somehow tasted extra good today; I wonder if my perfume today influenced my taste buds?
That watch is beautiful! I noticed it immediately. Pink and green are my sorority colors, so my next question was how much…… then I kept reading what Robin put. Oh, well. Usually how it goes…..
My SOTD was Deseo by JLo. I was out and about all day doing last minute Christmas stuff, so I just grabbed the first thing I saw this morning. Trying so hard to get in the Christmas spirit, but being that it’s almost 80 degrees here makes it extremely difficult. The news just said that this is the warmest Christmas in the country ever. This is crazy!
SOTE is Patou 1000. Hajusuuri, remember you recommended a bottle supplier – bottles.com maybe? Anyway, when I ordered from them, I also bought 2 heart shaped small bottles on keychains with lobster claw clips (no sprayer or wand, just a screw on cap). Today I filled one with 1000, clipped it onto my purse and carried it around all day. Nary a whiff, very secure. I was impressed.
It was bestbottles and I will order from them once I am close to running out of the ones from SKS-bottle!
What fragrance sings in wet, humid weather? Why Serge Lutens Encens et Lavande. How can I find a perfume both sacred and profane? The most medicinal aspects of lavender combined with church worthy incense. A cool, calming and reflective perfume. Simply gorgeous! And naturally only available in the just out of reach bell jars.
