Happy National Cupcake Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Prada Candy.
Reminder: this Friday, 12/18, we're doing Best Buy Friday: wear your favorite fragrance purchase of 2015. If you didn't buy anything this year, pick a favorite from a prior year.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown are Star Wars fondant cup cake toppers, $24 for 12 at TheConfectionary at Etsy.
Those cupcakes are adorable. Almost too cute to eat!
Have you ever heard of the term, “when it rains it pours?” Yesterday I was home sick, and when I came into the bedroom one of our kitties had peed all over the bed. To make a long story short she is now at the home of our vet, and him and his partner are making her comfortable. Yesterday I spent most of the day crying and eating chocolate.
Still sporting this cold, so I am commando again today.
However I can smell the faint scents in my face wash, Jasmine, white tea and musk.
I’m sorry you and your kitty had such a rough day! Hope today goes better.
Thank you. She is only 2 and it came on so sudden. Both of our cats are rescues. Hopefully our other fur child won’t be too lonely. I am definitely missing her presence today
I am so sorry! My girl puppy was diagnosed with a failed kidney at the age of two as well, fortunately she is still with us, but I am sending healing vibes for you and your sweet baby.
So sorry about your kitty! Do they know what’s wrong with it? Sick pets are so heartbreaking. Hugs to you.
She has kidney failure, our vet was very honest and told she would probably be gone in the next few weeks. So they are making her comfortable until she passes and we have given them a generous donation to their animal sanctuary for doing that. But, anything can happen. She could get better also!
Sounds like a wonderful vet. Hoping for the best for you both.
Hugs.
So sorry, and hoping that she somehow pulls through.
Oh no what terrible news! I’m so sorry! It must surely also be upsetting that your little fur-girl isnt with her ‘family’ at such a distressing time for her. I hope she feels safe and cared for at her hospice.
That is an amazing vet to help you with that. I’m glad your kitty will be comfortable.
Hope you feel better soon.
Aw, poor kitty. I hope she ends up recovering, but it sounds like she’s in really great care. I hope you’re doing ok, too.
Prayer and reiki pulled my cat back to health in Sept when she had failing kidneys so there is hope. Sending prayers your way
So sorry for your bad day! Hope things get better soon for you and your kitty.
Oh no…..
Honey, I am so, so sorry. That is heartbreaking. I am thinking of you and your family.
Do remember that she knows she is loved, and that is all a kitty could want. She has lived a happy life and that is a wonderful thing.
She did! Our pets are like our children
They absolutely are. It’s so unfair that they don’t get to live as long, but again, the life you gave her was a wonderful one. I hope that gives you some comfort.
So sorry 🙁
I’m very sorry.
I’m so very sorry about your cat. I hope she recovers, and my good thoughts go out to you. I’ve lost two cats this year and no matter how long you have them the loss is devastating. Best wishes.
So sorry for your loss!
So sorry about your cat and hoping for a full recovery. They do worm their way into our hearts.
I’m so sorry about your kitty. It’s nice that your vet is willing to care for her like that. Sending my best wishes to you and your other cat. Loosing a furry family member is the worst. I can’t tell you how sad I am that you’re going through this.
So sorry about your kitty! It’s especially hard when something like that happens so unexpectedly.
So sorry about your furry baby…..That is SO hard. We just adopted a kitten a week ago, and I’m already head over heels for him. They really are our children!
I am sorry to hear about your kitty – it’s always hard.
Rose Jam, Day 2.
Enjoying the day off… did some gift wrapping, online shopping and off to an annual Christmas choral program in the city later this evening.
Something peculiar happens to the clock on days off. The time either speeds up or skips every other hour or I don’t know what, but its not fair and how can it be afternoon already!
Going to apply more Rose Jam lotion 🙂
Well that posted in the wrong spot!
But did want to say, sad to hear about your kitty… animals bring us such joy. I hope you get some more time with him.
I’m very sorry to hear about your cat, that’s so unexpected when she’s so young.
Hope she gets better, fingers crossed!
Sorry to hear about your kitty. At least she’s in good hands and they will do everything to keep her comfortable. I’m hoping for the best.
I am in “vintage” Cinnabar, which reminds me so much of Youth Dew Amber Nude.
Vintage Cinnabar is glorious. Almost better than equally vintage Opium, which is more violent. You smell greatest!
“Violent” — I like that!
Yeah, it was pretty aggressive.
What a fun picture! I’m wearing Goutal’s MPCPC. Feeling a million dollars.
One of my favorites. Are you wearing the EDT or the EDP? I have a bottle of the EDT but have always wanted to try the other.
Today I’m wearing the EDP. I’ve got bottles of both. I think a lot of people bought this one unsniffed and regretted it. There were a lot of bottles available on ebay quite shortly after it first came out.
So I lucked out.
The EDP is slightly more full bodied than the EDT but the 2 are not hugely different.
Thanks, I’m pretty happy with the EDT and glad to hear the EDP isn’t vastly superior. Maybe if I ever run out (highly unlikely considering the volume of perfume I now own) I will replace my bottle with the EDP.
I can’t make this Goutal work for me. I have a small decant and I retest it from time to time. I don’t know which version it is – edt or edp. But sometimes it has too much dirt scratchin patchouli for me, and other times I think it is a more daring version of Chanel Coromandel….The deep red bottle is gorgeous though!
It’s pretty Fierce!
SOTD is Beloved from my new bottle! Its so nice to be able to spray with abandon.
You lucky duck! Enjoy!!!
That is seriously the best part of having a full bottle of what you love to wear. Spray away! You smell great.
Congrats on your Beloved!!!!
It so is, glad to see another fan!
Nasty ice-pellet-and-rain day, so I am blissfully cocooned in Andy Tauer Lonestar Memories, all wood smoke and spices and cozy tonka. It’s just heaven. I don’t wear it nearly enough.
You smell great! Do you get the jasmine in that? I love the smell of jasmine emerging from the smoke, almost like a genie. It’s my favorite part of the scent.
It’s not jasmine-y on me at all: mostly a great swirling cloud of smoky tarry woody spice. I have one of the first bottles he released: maybe a reformation amps up the jasmine? Or maybe it’s just me.
Mine is from about 3 years ago. But I wouldn’t say the jasmine is strong in it – just significant to my enjoyment of it. And I do think my skin is somehow amping the note up -my husband doesn’t get as much of it when he wears it.
I get that jasmine aspect as well but it is a very green and spring like jasmine to my nose, not indolic at all. A kinder, gentler jasmine….
Yum.
In Oriental Lounge, to face the Occidental Office…
🙂
Committed to wearing my neglected FMs this week. Today I’m in Un Fleur de Cassie and feeling sophisticated and bohemian at the same time. Love those cupcake toppers and you smell great in Prada Candy!
Sophisticated and bohemian! Now I need to try this!
It’s very polished but has enough dirty bits to give it an earthy quality. I find it very beautiful but not particularly comforting, which may be why I don’t reach for it often. Definitely worth sampling.
Thank you! And love your project for the week.
You smell great, and I love the description, too.
Thank you 🙂
OK, so last week I might have said that I liked Lyric, but could live without a FB. Well, I am now eating my words. It is so gorgeous, so comforting, so… WANT! Needless to say, it’s what I’m wearing today.
Glad you’re loving it! It took a minute for it to grow on me, too. I never bought a FB though. Bought the body cream and have several decants. I’m eyeing the Lyric candle from Beautyspin. I would love to smell it in my home.
Ooh, a candle would be delightful.
The candle sounds perfect for me. I love the perfume but I don’t often feel like wearing it.
Yeah, I kept thinking that it’s nice but nothing special. But in the end of the day, there is nothing that is quite able to replace it when I crave it. I have a mini, but might need a FB eventually.
I have the day off, but feel like I’m wasting it, since I have to bring my car in for body work estimates. A truck driver hit it on Friday while making a delivery to the shelter I work at, and if it were not for a good samaritan who witnessed everything and wrote me a note, I wouldn’t have known who was responsible. When I confronted the driver (who was still unloading), he initially denied knowing anything about my car. Thank god for good witnesses who are willing to step forward! Commando right now, but Chene for later.
Oh no!! Thank goodness for that kind person who wrote you a note… I hope repairs happen fast!
So annoying when you have to spend your day off doing stuff like that.
Car? What car?! People can be unbelievable can’t they?! Kudos to the person who did the right thing by you- and who happened to be there at the right time. Hopefully the fix-up process goes smoothly.
What a mess – good luck with getting your car fixed!
Thank God you weren’t in or next to your car when it happened.
I’m in Cuir Mauresque, layered with a bit of Rose Anonyme. Yum.
Love ????
Those cupcakes are so cute! I can’t wait to show my son this picture.
I’m wearing Divine Spirituelle today.
Ha…all my son cares about at the moment is the Star Wars premiere.
Ditto in our house. The triumph of masterful marketing over all other cultural touchstones!
I read somewhere that they only spent a quarter of what they were going to spend because the fanbase basically did most of the “marketing”. Fevered frenzy generates news!
You smell great!
In Mohur Extrait, and wearing my favorite black cashmere tunic, sand colored leggings and comfy riding boots, so I look current, feel comfortably warm, and smell great. Now I just need to win the lottery and fill up my bank account, and I would be all set…
The lottery wouldn’t hurt 😉
I won $4 the other day and re-invested.
Best of luck to all!
OMG! Love those cupcakes!
SOTD is SL Un Bois Vanille.
Looking forward the movie coming out and I’m even willing to brave the masses to see it, which is a testament to the happy memories I have of seeing the original at age 12 with my mom 🙂
Wishing everyone a fragrant day.
😉 I think my son feels the same as you do. And his mom is just as excited.
Whee! Almost makes me wish I had kids so I could take them to see this. Maybe I could borrow one from a friend…;)
I remember my parents picking me up early from 1st grade to go see the original. I felt very special leaving early 🙂
Yes, totally agree. I will never forget the dimming of the lights and the start of the soundtrack…so exciting for a kid 😀
I am so totally at the new Star Wars too – I even feel like I am dragging my husband along. I LOVE the original star wars. I had my first emotional love triangle conflict over Luke and Han! Which one is a girl supposed to pick, right?
Squee! I am totally Team Hans! Your hubby is probably secretly dying to see it too, but trying to play it cool. What perfume will you wear? I don’t own and have never sniffed Stephen Jones, but it seems like it would be galactically appropriate 😉
I didn’t even think about frags for the movie!!! Do I have anything that says human saga in outer space?
Can you smell fragrance in outer space? Maybe it doesn’t matter if that’s the case!
I am having a very lazy morning. This afternoon I have to go to my sons school and do his IEP. Not wearing anything at the moment, but I just received the Jhag sample set from Sephora. I plan on picking something from that after I shower. Any suggestions from those who know the line?
I like Romantina and Midnight Oud best.
Cold front coming in today…I’m in Ormande Woman and a lumberjack shirt 🙂
That sounds like a great combo!
Yesss…I feel very thematic!
Lucky you!
Nothing says “can’t wait for winter” like a lumberjack shirt. Enjoy!
2 more sleeps until Star Wars! WHEEEE!!!!! I’m so excited I could eat a pretty cupcake! 🙂
Wearing Taylor Swift’s Incredible Things today. It’s nice! The first 30 minutes was a little too loud, but it’s settled into a nice, sweet, gentle scent. Me likey!
On hold with Sephora right now….(21 minutes and holding)…..I got an order yesterday, and they left my 3 free fragrance samples out! BOO HOO! LOL I had ordered La Panthere, Daisy, and Dior Sauvage. Bummed I won’t get ’em, but they’ll give me some VIB points back, I understand…..23 minutes now….LOL
Have a good day y’all! 🙂
Bummer….finally got thru, and Sephora says all the freebie samples are G-O-N-E. So no points back…I’m just outta luck. Ah well….. 🙂 I did get a deluxe sample of Chloe, which was sickly sweet on me. But it rocked on my 11 yr old!
I’m joining you in liking Incredible Things. I think it’s well done for a celebrity scent, and that bottle really is so pretty.
I’m wearing another perfume oil, this time from BPAL. This one is called Harlot, and it is two types of roses, cinnamon, and incense. Yum.
Love the name!
Sounds delicious. I’ve wanted to try BPAL for a while, but never have gotten around to it. I especially want to try Rogue, since in addition to loving the smell of leather, I love to play Rogues in tabletop RPGs. Such a fun class to play.
Rogue is available in one of their sample sizes. Their samples are called imps, and are $4 each. I love them, because I can try a variety of scents and since they are perfume oils, the amount is enough for several applications.
Sounds nice.
Warm and sunny in my neck of the woods so I am wearing Equistrius from the Min NY sale. So pretty.
Is that a new avatar? It’s pretty!
Hi hajusuuri, Yes. Early morning one day last month, I looked out my back window and saw the mist rising around that tree in our field so I took a picture.
Commando last several days after just getting out of the hospital. 🙁 I’m feeling better, but perfume just doesn’t appeal yet. (Though I’m still enjoying reading about it!)
Hoping you make a full recovery soon!
Thank you!
It’s better to be out than in, but I hope you’ll be feeling well enough for perfume very soon. Take good care of yourself.
I’m taking it easy and finishing up the Christmas shopping online :-).
Oh no! I hope your recovery from whatever it was is quick and relatively pain-free!
Thanks!
I hope you recover soon! (So you can wear Farouche for holiday celebrations!)
Haha. And Nuit de Noel! The one time a year I dip into my vintage bottle of that one.
Hope you get well again soon! Being a patient is miserable.
Yes it is, austenfan, but it makes you appreciate a return to good health!
Wishing you speedy recovery!
Thanks so much!
Full and speedy recovery wishes!
Thank you!
Get well soon!
Many thanks!
Get well soon!
Thanks, poodle!
Speedy recovery and unhurried Christmas joy!
Thanks, and best holiday wishes to you, too!
Bois de Santal from Keiko Mecheri from a dabber sample. It’s easy, but rather nice.
Also – I don’t think I’d be capable of biting into something that cute.
Just flip it over and eat it upside down, lol!
I like the way you think.
Hey, great minds! 😉
Ha!
I love those cupcakes!
I’m giving Chinatown a full run today. When I put it on this morning I didn’t notice as much of the old lady whiff that I got before. So far, so good.
I found an old spray sample of Chanel No 5 and tried it on at bedtime last night. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it, since No 5 and I don’t always see eye to eye (old lady perfume issues). This morning I took a better look at the sample and found out it was No 5 Eau de Premiere, which I’ve heard quite a bit about. It is truly delightful. I think it might be my new bedtime fragrance. It’s comforting and lovely without being overwhelming.
Im also in Chinatown. Maybe you are very, very young if I smell like an ‘old lady’ 🙂
In some ways I wish I was younger, but not really. I like the wisdom that comes with age. But I’m not that young.
It’s not an age problem, as far as I know. There’s just certain notes in certain fragrances, that smell to me like perfume that’s been kept too long. My grandmother used to have a couple of ancient bottles of perfume in her bathroom, and they smelled like that. Likewise for my adopted Gramma later in life. That’s probably why I identify it as an old lady smell. I catch a whiff of that scent, whatever it is, and I’m immediately standing in my grandmother’s bathroom again.
I think I know the smell you mean, and thankfully I smell none of it in Chinatown! Hopefully no one else around me does either 🙂
Eau Premiere is the perfect gateway to No 5. It was for me, and now I love all versions of No 5. Eau Premiere is great for wearing all the time, all year long.
Those cupcakes are TOO cute!
My bottle of Mohur showed up yesterday, so that’s my scent of the day. It’s even better sprayed than dabbed and I’m glad I got a bottle despite initially thinking I could do without.
Yay!!
Yay! Spray with abandon! Mohur is the best…
I love those cupcakes! I am wearing Tuscany per Donna and its masculine partner over rose body lotion.
Oh, that sounds lovely!
60F here and sunny. Am about to finish up the Christmas shopping. (Ugh, now for the wrapping part!)
Wearing Safari.
Every time you wear Safari, I wish I had some.
Lovely Safari. I was craving greens yesterday b/c it was so warm so I wore some vintage No 19. They are definitely cousins.
If I were nearby I’d wrap them for you. Love to wrap gifts, also clean snow off cars. I know, weird.
I’m wearing Iris Cendre. I love the idea that there is such a thing as National Cupcake Day.
What do you think of Iris Cendre?
I like it a lot and ended up buying it. I love the iris and almost wish it were a bit smokier, like Bois d’Ascese.
Oh, great! I got a bottle too and occasionally also wish for more smoke, but I guess BdA levels of smoke would completely kill the iris. I’ve bought BdA twice for my partner (and for me to steal) and his shirts smell of it even after they are washed.
Has anyone ever worn or sniffed Niki de Saint Phalle? I am wondering if the current formulation is similar to vintage.
I had a mini of Niki de Saint Phalle that I loved. But I got it in an antiques/resale shop, so I don’t know how old it was. I haven’t gotten any more so I can’t say much about the current formulation.
Thanks sweetgrass. I sniffed a bottle that was about 15 years old and it was really pretty. The owner told me that the original formulation was much nicer.
I enjoy the current formulation and it is one of my favorite chypres. It has a lovely and pronounced marigold note in the opening.
I’m in Opus III today. For some reason it’s been very animalic on me today, but it could be the weather. It’s much warmer than usual for December.
Really hoping my bottle of Lyric shows up today!
Yum though. I love Opus III!
Opus III is beautiful!
Last night I wore Spiritueuse Double Vanille to bed. I smelled so good this morning that I decided to wear it today. It’s my favorite vanilla because it’s rich and opulent yet somehow it doesn’t go deeply into foody territory (gourmands are not my favorite perfumes).
Oh, I love that! I think I have a mother sample of it on it’s way to me…
Yum! You smell de-lish
You smell yumm, SuzyQ! I don’t wear it on a workday anymore because it smells like I boozed up!
I can’t go into foody territory either, but on certain days this one is just right.
SOTD is Rania J Ambre Loup, a sample from the lovely Hajusuuri- thank you very much! It’s a beautiful woody amber, great for this cooler weather.
We need to start keeping track every day of how many people are wearing things from Hajusuuri 🙂
Eeek! Still wearing my sparkly tiara 🙂
I got a decant / split from clarissa and ended up buying a FB at the Sniffapalooza event hosted by Twisted Lily. The boutique is worth a trip to Brooklyn.
Wearing Fumerie Turque today.
Yum, a classic!
I love your hair!
Thanks!
Heading up to the school, and sampling Midnight Oud. I have little experience with oud, and do not usually wear rose. So far, this smells very plummy on me. So far so good, but a little underwhelmed.
I’m wearing Iris Cendre from a sample. I decided I needed to try it after seeing it mentioned a bit recently. I like it a lot. Smoky iris is great for fall weather.
Also how freaking cute are those cupcakes!!! I love the Yoda one.
Yes, Yoda and Princess Leia are my favorites. 🙂
Glad you like it!
Chilly here in the SF Bay Area today, near freezing this morning. Fortunately, I have my hot flashes to keep me warm. Seriously, I put on a warm sweater then had to go change to something lighter before I passed out from heat stroke. Bah humbug.
SOTD is Tom Ford Oud Wood, for its calming properties. Ommmm
Yesterday I finally tried my recent purchase of SSS Amber Incense. It wasn’t what I was expecting at all, so it took a while to re-align my nose and try it with a mental blank state. What surprised me was that this scent is all about the spices! Way more spice than amber or incense. Interesting.
Also repeating a question I asked over the weekend: I was gifted a vintage bottle of Chanel No 5 EdP, and I’m wondering what the vintage is. The bottle is sort of a hip flask shape: it’s a black refillable plastic case, about 6″ tall, 2.5″ wide, and about 3/4″ deep. There’s a gold band just over halfway up the bottle and the cap is above the gold band. Anyone remember when this bottle shape was used?
I didn’t see posts over the weekend, and don’t know exactly about your No 5, but I’ve used this guide before (when it was on ebay), and it is very good.
http://chanelperfumebottles.blogspot.com/p/how-to-dating-chanel-bottles.html
My mom had that bottle during the mid nineties.
Thank you both! My friend (the gift-ee) thinks that early to mid 90’s sounds about right.
Wishing strength and comfort to all of you having a rough day.
You could also try checkcosmetic.net. I have had good luck with them in dating some of my fragrances.
Oh, and, squeeeeee! Love the cupcakes. Love Star Wars too. Still have my Darth Vader necklace and R2D2 earrings from back in the day.
Anybody seen Robot Chicken Star Wars? Oh so funny!
Robot Chicken spoof is AWESOME!!! 🙂
My favorite bit is when Darth Vader is trying to figure out all the buttons on his lite-brite chest panel. Has me laughing in tears every time 🙂 🙂 🙂
I got a package last night of some fun samples from an extremely generous NSTer, including a perfume oil that is totally new to me: Terveer. Anyone heard of it or tried it? I am sampling the Incense, which is a little narcotic–it must be the oud. Ihadanidea was supposed to send me a decant of Calligraphy Rose, which she did…but with so many other fun items to explore, I had a wee spell of ADD and wound up gleefully overapplying this addictive oil!
Also, thanks to galbanumgal, I am jittery from the too many Violet Bakery Rye Brownies I had for breakfast (Ya, I know, breakfast of fat champions!)… Tried the recipe last night and it is definitely for the dark chocolate lovers…they were even better this morning after a night in the fridge–perfect level of chewiness!
My 14 year old has a finals study day break today, and tomorrow is his physics final… I am trying not to be too obvious about the fact I haven’t a clue about what he studying. It is a fine line I am walking of proffering brownies and encouragement, and making what I hope are intelligent nods at his explanations of what he is working on….
Brownies, mmm… I’ve been finishing up my graham date bread and wondering what would be the next thing to widen my hips. I’m craving these: http://buttermeupbrooklyn.com/2013/07/red-wine-velvet-cupcakes/
which are a favorite for chocolate cravings (only with regular cream cheese icing), but those brownies may win.
Just seeing this now – yaaaaaaaay!!
I had never heard of it either, but it somehow seemed like something you’d enjoy. It was in my Sniffapalooza bag, and I don’t remember hearing the background on it.
Off to spray some Silences…:)
Drunk on brownies! I may have to make those.
oakland, you beat me to the punch…will have to bake those up one of these days. Right now there’s so much Christmas bounty around here from W-S and Harry & David…need to start foisting it off on other households!
Greetings everyone! I’m reaching far into the back of the drawer to keep myself entertained and out of a fragrance rut. Today’s fragrance is Chopard Casmir. Robin’s review of whatever it was the other day about “happy” fragrances got me to thinking about what was really happy in my collection, and Casmir came to mind. It’s just almost too sweet for me, but it is very sunny!
I’ve been trying to buy this one since I read Angela’s review a while back, but I never seem to be slick enough on my feet to catch up with it. It sounds heavenly for high days and holidays.
Casmir is absolutely wonderful. I really need to replenish it.
Good morning, all. Today is a soft day in the office (which means I’m skiving off early to gave lunch with a desperately sick colleague). I finished the beastly report thing yesterday afternoon and despatched it. Oh, the satisfaction of hitting “Send”! Went upstairs to check my pigeon hole and found that a staff member (used to be one of mine, but I sort of off-loaded her a couple of years back for Reasons) has made a formal complaint about me. Super. That’ll be something to help me pass the time in the New Year, I expect. Nobody seems very certain what the complaint is about, but everyone agrees that this young woman is very upset with me. It will be very interesting to find out what I’ve done that’s so bad, because I’m always absolutely painstakingly polite to her when I have to interact with her. Anyway, what perfume do you wear when all this is going down? Dunno, really. Fate, for its name? 19, for its warrior woman qualities? 24 Rue Faubourg for its gorgeous dignity? Nah. I really want something that expresses bemusement and slightly hysterical laughter–why doesn’t some clever perfumer get right on that project? Anyway, I’ve settled, with no extraordinary sense of irony, for Kiss Me Tender.
I used to have to deal with complaints, not about me personally, but rather against those above me and a process that I managed. Worst part of the job, by far. It was invariably the least talented employees with terrible interpersonal skills and no self-awareness who complained. However, their direct supervisors never had the balls to document the issues and dealt with it (if they did anything), by passing them off on other departments. I didn’t entirely blame them, as that was a time-consuming and thankless task with these difficult employees; however, as a result, there was never inadequate documentation of their poor performance, which was a handicap in dealing with the complaints. I would wonder how the new supervisor has been treating and advising this employee.
I hope your organization has good lawyers dealing with personnel matters. If so, they can be invaluable. The first step (after finding out what the complaint is and looking up the relevant regulations or policies) is to outline and document all of the facts. Getting all that together and organized was a pain but always helped me feel better prepared.
Thank you. Your advice about being prepared is excellent and I will act on it when I begin to deal with the issue. I shouldn’t think the Uni has employment lawyers, but it’s bound to have enough policies and procedures to keep me wrapped warmly in red tape until I retire. But, to be honest, I can’t get very worked up about the complaint, or not yet, anyway. I probably will soon, but this year has been tough– full of deaths and other forms of loss, the extreme illness of valued colleagues, including a severe head injury with lasting horrible effects to one of my oldest friends and work mates, my own relatively minor but distracting health issues–and this complaint, whatever it’s about, somehow just doesn’t stack up very high on my emotional priority list, or even on my task list. It’s Wednesday: tomorrow is graduation and between the procession and the ceremony, nothing much else will happen, so effectively I have only two days left of this academic year and I intend to enjoy them. I’m not going to let matter this spoil my break: I’m not taking it up home with me where the air is clean and the people love me. Next year will be soon enough.
Good luck Waterdragon. It usually becomes clear to HR pretty quickly when they are dealing with someone who is simply spiteful and emotionally immature and/or passive aggressive…no doubt the complainer will try everyone’s patience and then shoot herself in the foot (but make people miserable in the process). I think you should wear ‘Waterdragon has a Gun’ or Bulletproof…or Everything and Nothing….What a waste of your time having to deal with such nonsense.
Waterdragon has a gun…love it! Something based on the smell of firecrackers, do you think? A touch of oud and suedey leather in the heart, top notes with lots of animalic leather and a whiff of brimstone, lit up with some metallic aldehydes? That should scare everyone around me. I’ve often thought how useful a tail would be for expressing emotion –the cats are so good with their nonverbal signals–but now what I chiefly want is a luxuriant moustache so I could twirl the end in a villainous way.
Wise approach, waterdragon!
And good luck!
How about just regular old baby powder.
Yep!
That sounds rather horrible. It’s never happened to me, but a former colleague had a miserable time with a complainer – this person wasn’t up to the job and every time my colleague tried to deal with performance issues, the person rushed to the HR dept to complain about bullying. HR knew exactly what was going on, but still had to investigate.
Love that you’ve gone for Kiss Me Tender 🙂
I have heard that this person tends to rush off to HR quite a lot, but I don’t have any real data about that. I do know that she has made one other formal compliant before, not bad going for someone who joined the organisation as recently as 2011! I have never felt any respect for her, and actually not too much liking either, but if I’ve done done thing terrible to her (????), she’s entitled to invoke the process.
In what’s rapidly becoming a standby, Eau de Merveilles.
That is a great standby. I wore it this weekend.
Combating another cold and gray day here in Odalisque. Now it’s springtime under my shirt.
Seeing as it’s National Cupcake Day, I might have to make some. Mine will not be as clever or pretty as the picture.
SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
I needed cozy and I got cozy. Just heard that a colleague’s 6 year old daughter passed away over the weekend from a rare organic disorder which was not diagnosed. How can a parent deal with something like this? She used to sit in front of me and I heard how she was with her kids. So sad…
That’s just awful. I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine.
Oh, so sad!
How horrible. I’m so sorry.
Oh no. That’s heartbreaking. I can’t even imagine how a parent can handle something like that.
Terrible. Hard enough to hear about it, let alone go through that.
The loss of a child is always tragic, but doubly so when it might have been prevented.
Thanks for your sentiments, everyone.
Found a sample of Chloe Love Story I don’t recall receiving! I love the name and tried it on; shrill, wan, lasts a lifetime. Made up for it by dousing myself in Smugglers Soul, which is the opposite of shrill and wan. Growly and beefy, rather.
Oof shrill and persistent is really the worst. Meanwhile growly and beefy sounds fantastic 🙂
It’s pretty good! Nary a top note, just a touch of lime or something, and then all wood and smoke.
How dreadful about your colleague, hajusuuri! So sad.
I am still dragging due to the cold drizzly weather (thanks to all who expressed their sympathy yesterday!) so I put on a bit of Prada Candy and am preparing to bake cookies and pretend I am somewhere else.
Prada Candy is great. I hope it helped your SAD.
That colleague had moved to a different work location but I still see her once or twice a week and we always exchange pleasantries before continuing with our respective work day.
I’m late and wearing Puredeistance I, an elegant – if not very exciting – floral. I should have sprayed more to get a better idea of it, but it certainly was suitable for the office.
That’s pretty much what I thought of it. I also thought it smelled oh so familiar, but I couldn’t put my finger on the match….
Pretty Machine on a pretty day
Oh, I do want to try that. We haven’t seen much of this line lately. Hope he is still around!
Broken Theories isn’t that old and is rather nice
Shalimar PI, as I’ve been going through a little box of recent swapped samples and decants that I put within easy reach post leg break–to force me to try things?
But, now I remember that this makes me sneeze almost instantly, like a magic trick. I do like the spicy, vaguely iris effects, so I might try a little in my lampe berger trick before trying to re-home it.
SotD is DKNY Sweet Delicious Tart Key Lime — very lime, a bit sweet, sort of delicious. I like it much better than I expected. The initial burst of lime is fabulous. There is something odd in it now though. Hairspray?
I spritzed Tart Key Lime while standing in a check-out line after shopping today and not finding what I was looking for. Bought six shirts for gifts, so it wasn’t a total loss.
Today I’m wearing Tom Ford’s Jasmine Rouge.
SOTD was just one spritz of SSS Champagne de Bois. After 11 hours, it is still going strong. This is one of the few perfumes that lasts all day on me. Love it, but only in cooler weather.
I have a lot of those: love ’em–but only in the right weather!
I was tempted to stop by the neighborhood cupcake shop this aft, but exercised restraint. Ninny.
Commando except for overspray from spritzing No. 19 on sweaters I took out of storage.
Think I may puruse some local antique shops for a small cabinet for my perfumes. Hauling out a cardboard box in our temporary housing arrangement is getting old. Merry Christmas to me!
