Clean Reserve ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 9 December 2015 12 Comments

Clean Reserve

Clean has launched Clean Reserve, a new collection of nine "niche, authentic, sustainable and personal" fragrances. There are six new fragrances (Amber Saffron, Blonde Rose, Smoked Vetiver, Sueded Oud, Terra Woods and Velvet Flora) plus new "Reserve Blend" editions of three older Clean fragrances (Rain, Skin and Warm Cotton).

Each CLEAN Reserve fragrance was created to be dynamic and evoke, not memories of the past, but possibilities and experiences yet to be discovered. Each is linear without much movement from top to bottom, making it ideal for layering and blending.

Amber Saffron ~ "Amber Saffron is the sexiest and most delicious fragrance of the collection. An irresistibly fresh blend of red fruits, delicate florals, soothing musks, warm amber and exquisite saffron, it is sure to leave a lasting impression. Velvet Flora and Sueded Oud are Amber Saffron’s perfect matches." Additional notes include bergamot, armoise, artemisia, mandarin, rose, lily and raspberry.

Blonde Rose ~ "Blonde Rose is not an ordinary floral fragrance, it is for anyone who loves to be feminine with an edge. A sophisticated blend of rose, jasmine, and peony, it reminds of the classic, yet modern femininity that’s fresh and sexy. Men can wear it too, especially when paired with Sueded Oud." Additional notes include aldehydic watery accord, cedar, sandalwood and musk.

Smoked Vetiver ~ "Smoked Vetiver is the most masculine fragrance of the collection. It has a smoky sweetness that’s fresh, inviting, and sexy. Made for both men and women, the fragrance is light and fresh when worn alone, but can be paired with Sueded Oud to transform it into an irresistible sensual experience." Additional notes include verbena, bamboo leaf, bergamot, quince pear, blonde cedar, cotton peony, wild moss, gold amber, soft musks, clean woods and myrrh.

Sueded Oud ~ "Sueded Oud is a fresh and creamy approach to a traditional oud fragrance. It is a discovery of natural textures and an exploration of the fluid movement between the brighter and darker facets of fragrance." Additional notes include incense, blue cypress, birchwood, red pimento, honeysuckle, night blooming jasmine, magnolia, fir balsam, sarcocaulon (a kind of succulent), soft suede, patchouli, black amber, praline, skin musk and olibanum tears.

Terra Woods ~ "A fragrance for the misfits, movers, and shakers who want to make a positive impact on the world, Terra Woods is the most unique fragrance of the collection. It smells alive with crisp and zesty notes, and is freshened further with water and air to move into a natural floralcy. Creaminess and a woody base provide contrast, creating a beautiful duality that instantly transforms into a new experience when paired with Velvet Flora, Smoked Vetiver, or Sueded Oud." Additional notes include fresh accord, geranium, jasmine, coconut, skin musks, textured woods, tonka bean and vanilla.

Velvet Flora ~ "Velvet Flora is an intoxicating blend of sophistication and allure made for anyone who has an aura of distinction, confidence, and modernity. It captures the unique contrast of bergamot and leathery woods, awakening the senses with freshness and warmth." Additional notes include jasmine lily, saffron flower, cedar, moss, musk, amber and patchouli.

The Clean Reserve collection is available now at Sephora, 100 ml Eau de Parfum for $90 each. A six piece layering set is $45.

Clean Suede Oud–didn’t that win the Prix Eaux Faux last year? ;)

Authentic is pretty bad. And really, a fragrance for misfits with a “fresh accord” — but hey. This is not being marketed to perfumistas. More from WWD:

“Clean Reserve was crafted to appeal to consumers tired of celebrity fragrances or those who aren’t happy with the current designer lineup, according to Greta Fitz, Fusion’s director of global marketing. “People don’t want to smell like everybody else,” she explained.

      […]

While mass scent sales languish, there’s been an uptick in high-end, custom-crafted lines. Fusion devised Clean Reserve to tap that growing demand. Furthermore, Clean Reserve fragrances can be personalized by pairing and blending.”

Yeah “authentic” is truly one of my least favorite perfume advertising words.

I saw the Misfits live several times in the early eighties. They had no fresh accords. Trust me.

Have we hit bottom now that Clean has a “reserve” line, AND an oud?

Also, I think you need to add the “please, no more oud” tag although maybe we have to accept that there will be more oud until every line in the world offers at least one oud. Perhaps Tocca will be next. :-)

$90 for a bottle of niche fragrance is making me nostalgic for the prices of the old days of 2004-05 when I discovered all this stuff.

Worse than “authentic,” every single one of them is described as “fresh.” Whenever an SA tells me something is “really fresh,” I know to avoid it.
