Happy National Brownie Day (and pass the brownies, please). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Reminiscence Elixir Patchouli.
Reminder: this Friday, 12/11, wear a perfume by Pierre Bourdon, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am in PG Musc Maori. It mostly smells of chocolate/cocoa to me. I do not normally wear scents like this, but I think I would enjoy it on a cold, snowy winter day spent outdoors – skiing, for example. It makes me think of a nice cup of delicious hot cocoa.:)
You’re seriously tempting me into one of those 30 mls of Musc Maori. Fragrant hot chocolate! And maybe Indochine, too. Oh, and we can’t forget about Aomassai…
I smelled this at the NYC fumies get-together at Osswald and it smelled delish. The SA said it reminded her of Cocoa Puffs with milk and I agreed!
SL Jeux de Peau. Such a delicious warm cozy scent. Made for winter in Atlantic Canada (it’s not technically winter for a couple of weeks but trust me, it’s winter anyway).
According to Weather.com, meteorological winter is Dec. 1 through Feb. 28, so you are quite right!
Your meteorological and technical seasons are different? Why is that? Ours get divided into 4 three month blocks, and the weather tends to generally comply.
It is my understanding that in the northern hemisphere, “Meteorological Winter” is the coldest three month period of the year (December through February).
However, the winter season (“Astronomical Winter”) begins at the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year) and ends at the vernal equinox (I’d have to look this one up).
Having been born just south of the US/Canadian border, I think it’s safe to estimate the actual summer in that region as June-September, roughly. Allow one month at either end for spring & fall. Winter is about 6 months long. And with arctic winds blowing in cold and cloud cover, it often seems MUCH longer.
Perthgirl, the original, astronomical seasons are demarcated by the equinoxes and solstices, e.g., in the northern hemisphere, winter begins with the winter solstice on December 22 and ends with the vernal (spring) equinox on March 20.
Meteorologists prefer to work with even months for statistical purposes, so meteorological winter started on December 1 and will end on February 28, as noted above.
In Petit Guerlain today!
For those NYC people- I think this week you can buy A bottle of perfume at their shop in the hotel, and decorate the perfume bottle with crystals to make it unique. Would make a nice gift.
I know it’s sacrilegious but the mental image I got was of sticking macaroni to an old jar and spraypainting it silver or gold and giving it to a very gracious mum as a nice present 😉 Lol. I’m sure Guerlain have found a classier way 🙂
Hahaha 😀 It’s the adult equivalent.
Ha!
I just checked their website and you can decorate with Swarovski crystals. A little different then spray paint 🙂 but I like your idea! Sounds cheaper
I would totally be up for that with a bottle of Mon Precieux Nectar. Too bad I’m not in NYC.
ha, didn’t think you were a patch fan. Have just assembled the ingredients to give the Violet Bakery rye brownies a shot (don’t know why I couldn’t link, sorry). They’re on NYT.
Found the recipe, thanks! They sound very nice. You have also reminded me that I have The Violet Bakery Cookbook and I should use it.
I like a few, but admittedly not many! I don’t know why you couldn’t link either…these do look fabulous! Let us know how they turn out.
http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1017852-violet-bakery-rye-brownies
I was expecting rye whiskey brownies. Needless to say I’m a little disappointed.
🙂
I went a little crazy today and wore SL Arabie to work. Just a few light spritzes, but now I’m afraid to leave my office. (Arabie smells great to me, but I know many people find it rather skanky.)
LOL — maybe you’ll get more done in Arabie then!
Today, I am wearing The 7 Virtues Middle East Peace. When I do not know which scent to choose in the morning, I usually pick this one. It’s my happy citrus of the moment.
I hope lots of people will ask what you’re wearing.
About to hop in the shower and I am still wearing the reminents of Memior. After spending all weekend with Amouage, I’m changing it up to wear either Jicky or Shalimar.
SSS Lieu de Reves…right now I am using a travel spray…will really need to invest in a full bottle before it becomes completely unavailable!
Wearing Atelier Vanille Insensee today! Going to my 14 yr old’s high school holiday band concert tonight, so have a warm vanilla Christmas cookie ambience happening in my personal zone today…..
Snap! I just applied about 5 spritzes of VI for bedtime. You smell very cozy and yum 🙂
I really love it! I got as a sample from Sephora….may very well have to buy a small bottle next time I shop perfume. Sampling works! 🙂
That sounds great. I’ll have to give it a try the next time I’m at Sephora.
Fate today – definitely seems stronger than Beloved but also very enjoyable. Seems to be helping me focus in a ridiculously frenetic day.
I’m wearing Iris Nazarena and have 6.5 kilos of pork shoulder in the oven. It’s a record (the pork, not the iris).
Are you having another dinner party?
Yes, 14 people coming in 2 hours. I must admit I’m not very enthusiastic this time, as I’m not feeling that well. I’ve given up on preparing any first course (fortunately there’s an excellent deli close by) and will focus on getting the bo ssam done.
Oh wow. Hope your dinner goes well and that you feel better soon.
Thanks! And it did go well in the end, it was very informal and the main dish was very popular, so all good.
Poor pig! 🙂
I’m crap at preparing meat, mainly because I don’t eat a lot of it, so have few occasions to practice.
Hope you start feeling better soon, maybe get some rest at some point. And good luck on the dinner party, I’m sure it will be fine.
I’m good with stews and slow-cooking big chunks of meat, much less with steaks.
And you are right, it’s just the year-end fatigue. Fortunately, there are only two weeks to go.
Well both sound delicious! Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks 🙂
Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you. It’s nothing serious, I’m mostly just tired.
Wearing Ormonde Woman, smelling good, working hard.
You smell magnificent, I should wear it one of these days, too.
Scent twins today, Austenfan! I love this one so much. We smell fantastic.
Gorgeous. OJ Woman is just so different from anything else.
I really need to resample this and see what I think now. I liked it the first time and not so much the second.
It is one of those fragrances for me at least, that is hit or miss. Some days are so fantastic, but others not. AG Songes does that to me too. And Mitsouko.
Mmm, brownies! Wearing En Voyage Zelda today. Need that femme fatale vibe to get me through my standing Tuesday lunch date, taking my (very) elderly parents to their favorite restaurant for the Swiss steak special 🙂 There are weeks when I am the youngest person in the place, and I’m no spring chicken lol.
Whats a Swiss steak special?
As I recall from childhood, its pounded beef, cut into strips, and cooked in gravy (internet pics look like tomato sauce). A remnant of the 60s fascination in the US with “ethnic” foods. Laughter allowed.
Yes, it’s beef that is pounced to tenderness and mashed potatoes, smothered in a rich gravy, served with green beans and a dinner roll. A very filling American meal. See also “blue plate special”.
SOTD: Comforter from Lush.
The shower gel smells great but I can’t decide how I feel about the perfume.. it smells quite like cough syrup (the neon pink kind) and artificial…
I wasn’t crazy about that one when I sniffed it in the store.
I find I like a lot of Lush scents in the transitory form of soap / shower gel but not in perfume or lotion (or other forms that linger on).
I use my Lush perfumes as room sprays and they work well in that capacity. They are just too strong for me to wear on my skin…except Furze.
When I lived in New Mexico I had a heavy smoking neighbor, and found Lush products intolerably irritating, as though someone was tarring my roof.
Sunday, here in the land of trees (North Carolina), I managed to browse in both Lush and Bath/Body Works consecutively, with no reaction at all. I also had no problem in New Orleans.
I did get the impression that West Coast Lush products are made in a different plant, I think Vancouver area, so maybe the formula or ingredients are slightly different, but it seems unlikely.
I’m wearing Juliette Has a Gun Moon Dance which I’m pleasantly surprised by, since the others I’ve tried from JHAG didn’t really work for me. It’s a nice sweet powdery floral.
I like the name Moon Dance. I’ll check it out on their website .
Czech & Speake Dark Rose is my SOTD.
And, I am about to make a cup of apple cinnamon tea. A good combination to get my day going☺
Yum — so rarely hear about that one anymore!
It’s one of my scents that I don’t have to think about. It’s very easy to wear, and right in the front row of my perfume tray.
Sampling Tauerville Rose Flash, and man it’s lovely! (Yesterday it was Vanilla Flash, which I also liked, though I’ve yet to find a vanilla-centric perfume I’d buy a FB off.)
I really want to try Rose Flash. You smell great!
The Advent calendar inspired me to get samples of the entire Flash series — thus far I’m quite impressed.
I’m still hoping to win one. If I don’t, I will buying samples promptly after Christmas.
I decided I needed samples on the off chance I won one, so I’d know which to get 😉
Have you tried Indult Tihota?
Enjoying spice market in a bottle, Olympic Orchids Gujarat. Hope my dental hygienist likes it as much as I do!
Alvarez Gomez cologne poured into the bathtub, as Bois de Jasmin recommends. I officially have strep throat, and I am leaving this tub for nothing and no one today.
…not even for bed?
Hope you feel better.
Ugh, get better soon!
Im still waiting for baths to have under-tub heating to keep the water warm, because they arent so fun when they go cold. Hope you stay warm and pampered and feel better soon Ari.
This is an amazing idea… I hope you feel better soon, Ari!
You need to patent this idea and start production ASAP
This is the only reason I am so rabid about bathing at Mom’s. Her whirlpool was installed with massive amounts of insulation beneath it (we had mice in there once, so I know first hand), and the pump system is designed to maintain the temperature. I can actually stay in until I get bored 🙂
My tub at home will just about be too cool by the time I get in if I run the water full-hot, so I rarely bother.
Ari, I hope you feel better soon!
Oh no! I hope you feel better soon!
Feel better!
My DH and daughter just got over this. I hope you feel better soon. I like Lemon Balm tea for a bad throat.
My three Amouage decants finally arrived, so I’m wearing Jubilation 25 today. It’s pretty great so far. Lots of similarities to 31 Rue Cambon, in my opinion. Definitely chypre territory. Looking forward to find out how it develops throughout the day.
I did a brief test of Beloved and Lyric before I showered last night. Neither was what I had expected. Beloved is quite a powerhouse. Spicy, heavy patchouli – not sure how I feel about it. Lyric started out great, but the drydown was giving me some laundry musk impressions, which is not a favorite. More testing is needed.
Question to Amouage fans: which one is your favorite?
I’ll be interested to see people’s answers, too. Amouage is a line I want to get to know better. I’ve sampled only one, Lyric, and was disappointed. Unlike everything I’d heard, it did not smell like a rose on me at all, but like some kind of pudding. Hard to describe. :-p
I don’t really consider Lyric a rose either, but then I sampled it and fell in love before I knew what it was so I had no expectations to disappoint me 🙂
Good point. I’m sure my expectations had a lot to do with my response. If I still have the sample, I’ll dig it out and give it another try.
It had a strange dusty note on me, I thought cumin-y. Fragrantica says saffron.
Lyric is my favourite. Then Epic, Fate, Journey, Interlude and Opus III.
I also like Memoir (really like when Im in the mood), the Jub’s, Opus I, Sunshine and Dia. Gold and Ubar are beautiful but really not my thing. And Beloved is an old-school vibe chypre to me which isnt my thing at all. Cant remember Ciel and havent tried Reflection.
Oh and I liked Honour but would need to try it again as it was a few years ago- a lifetime in perfumista terms.
Unfortunately Lyric has been reformulated, and not for the better. The old version was much rosier. I am a big Amouage fan and have Jubilation, Gold, Ubar, Honour, Epic, Fate, Memoir, Interlude, Dia, Beloved, Homage, Tribute and the men’s Jubilation XXV. Love them all so it’s hard to pick a favorite, but lately I have been reaching for Fate a lot.
I am an “old school Amouage” fan…that is, I like mostly the older ones — and they mostly relied on real sandalwood in high concentration, so can’t hardly be done now…. Ubar in its original form, the original Amouage Homme. The newest one that I really love is Jubilation XXV.
I love too many from Amouage.
I have a bottle of Journey, which is gorgeous and sexy full of osmanthus and honey. Next is Lyric, which is a comforting scent for me. I do get a bit of rose, but there is a general floral smell and then incense and benzoin for me. The spices in Epic are amazing and then the spices in Opus IV are even MORE potent and amazing. Opus VI is a gorgeous woody one for me and then I like Fate and Interlude.
I love all 3 of those but my impressions are quite different. I find Beloved to be a soft, slightly sweet floral after the initial herbal blast calms down. I don’t get much in the way of spice or patchouli. I’d describe Lyric as the heavier one and there’s definitely noticeable patchouli, spice, rose, and incense in that one. But I don’t smell laundry musk. I’m sure others can weigh in on this. Those 3+Fate Woman are my faves. I haven’t explored the men’s versions but lots of people seem to prefer them to the women’s.
I suspect I did not give Beloved enough skin time so the herbal blast was still going strong and I never arrived at the soft, sweet floral stage.
That herbal stage put me off initially and it wasn’t until later in the day that I got that “Ooh! What’s that smell?” Now I actually enjoy the top notes.
Lyric is my favorite and I get as much incense as rose from it—like Perthgirl I don’t really consider it a rose scent (and I don’t think I’ve smelled the reformulated version). I also like Beloved (wearing it today). The patchouli doesn’t seem predominant to me in Beloved, but it’s spicy and has something civety/skanky that makes it interesting. I also like Journey and Memoir.
Heh, I like that everyone is VERY quick with their favorite Amouages–important subject! 🙂 Mine’s Memoir, by some distance–I did also like Jub XXV but Memoir’s the only one I’m considering buying. Maybe it’s time to give my sample set another go tho–it’s possible I’ll be more up for formal perfume than I was when I first got it.
Oh, gosh. You all have me refilling my cart at The Perfumed Court. They’re having a 36% off sale for all sampler packs today only (code: SAMPLERS36), and I’ve taken the Amouage Woman sampler pack in and out of my TPC cart so many times over the last few weeks. The only one I’ve spent much time with is Beloved, which I keep going back to, but still haven’t decided if it’s love or like. Looks like it’s time for more exploration.
Thanks for the tip!
lizbee, Amouage doesn’t particularly work for me, and I have a bunch of samples that I’d be glad to pass on. Shoot me an email at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of geeeee-mail if you’d like them.
Thanks, Pixel! I was *just* about to pull the trigger. I really appreciate your generosity. Emailing now!
Oh thanks for this head’s up!
OMG. Thank you for the tip! And enabling my relatively new addiction! I couldn’t spring for the Amouage set yet, but I got some SL and Guerlain. I’m thrilled to see the decant and sample prices there too!
Fate is by far my favorite. Wanted to love Ubar but just don’t. Nor Beloved.
Beloved and Memoir Woman are my fav’s. Beloved is long on my must buy list!
Amouage Gold, no question, best aldehydic floral that I know.
Beloved is a close second, and Ubar a very close third. Apart from those three I really enjoy Dia, Lyric, Opus III, the two Jubilations and I think I liked Epic as well. Fate and Memoir, I’m on the fence about. Didn’t like Sunshine at all, or Interlude, or Reflection and it was either Journey or Honour that didn’t sit well with me either.
And I think the names are mostly stupid, but a lot of perfume names are.
I’ve been feeling rosy lately. I wore Joy parfum to bed last night and I’m wearing SL Sa Majeste La Rose this morning.
Thinking about buying a discounted bottle of AG Rose Absolue (sampled and loved) or going in on a split for 20 ml of Creed Fleur de The Rose Bulgarie (unsniffed). Or saving my money. Decisions…
Did you ever pull the trigger on Club de Nuit Intense?
Not yet! I got a sample of TF Noir de Noir to decide whether I need a full bottle (of CdN). Still deciding. 🙂
I’d be happy to send you a decant (pretsky35 in the land of hotmail)
Lonestar Memories today. I had just got to work (so was wafting some serious sillage) and sat next to a very sweet young male co-worker. He said “your perfume is very nice. Is that Daisy? By Marc Jacobs?”
Errrmmm. No. He was too sweet to laugh at, and bless, it may be the only perfume he knows the name of. So I told him what it was called but spared him the fabulous-world-of-real-perfume lecture and asked him his Christmas plans instead 🙂
And Vanille Insensee for bed. Day 1 of public transport has exhausted me.
I applaud your restraint.
Lol. That’s a great story. If only Marc Jacobs would make something like Lonestar Memories!
Ha. Bless his heart.
Too cute!
Big points for the try! He really liked the scent or you… 🙂
Am finally feeling better today, wearing DSH Oeillets Rouges. Yum.
Glad to hear your tummy’s all better Mals 🙂
I am going for Gris Montaigne today, been wanting some patchouli lately.
Lovely. I almost went with this one today from my sample. My large decant from a split should arrive in the mail soon.
Drained the last of my Ambre Precieux Ultime today. It’s gorgeous and very fitting for a chilly day.
After reading Angela’s comments on perfume oils yesterday, I chose to go for a Possets perfume oil sample, several of which have been languishing un-tried. This one is Isabella, described on the Possets website as “light resin, white tea leaf and a rare honey/milky-musk”. I like perfume oils when I just want to wear something quite simple, linear, and with minimal sillage.
Fils de Dieu, which is normally not a cool-weather scent for me, but I’m very much in the mood to pretend I’m on vacation someplace warm.
Wearing Amouage Beloved today. My new bottle arrived last night and I had to take if for a test drive. Amouage is such a great house.
You smell great! Congratulations on the new bottle.
A great scent!
Sampling a bunch of things with the best being Memo African Leather but nothing on my skin at the moment is full bottle worthy
To fit with my “why-can’t-it-be-the-Christmas-holidays-already?” mood, I am wearing Fille en Aiguilles.
great choice!
Oh yes, I had that on several days last week. I love the pine forest / baking fruit aspects.
Wearing Narciso Rodriguez For Her and trying to figure out if it’s actually giving me a headache or not. I like it though.
My hand goes to the Tauer PHI Rose de Kandahar even though I head to my bottles with other intentions. I am going through this one faster than anything I have ever bought with the exception of Indochine.
Anyone know what the PHI stands for? Just wondering….
I’m assuming it’s the Greek letter “phi” as he had another perfume called “Zeta”.
Aha!
Love both of those!????
SOTD PdE Cuir Ottoman with a a smidge of SHL Kohl de Bahrein for added powdery sweetness. I’m liking the combo more than the individual scents, themselves. Though, I like both very much.
Trying Coco Noir today.
I finally got my hands on some Vero Profumo. I’m wearing Rubj Voile d’Extrait. The opening nearly made me weep, but the drydown feels a little too clean and quiet. So, I ordered the extrait and edp versions from luckyscent. My hopes are high.
Tha extrait is gorgeous!
Had to divert from my endless incense party… felt the need for some grown-up calm and reserve. 31 Rue Cambon it is.
You smell wonderful!
31 RC is on my wish list. You smell great!
VCA Bois d’Iris today. I like this so much, I really need to just get a FB..
I’ve only sniffed this from the bottle – not on skin, because I was at the airport and didn’t want to wear fragrance on the plane, but I just know that this should be on my FB list.
Has anyone ever noticed the similarities between YSL In Love Again and Hermes Kelly Caleche? Both by Jean Claude Ellena. I sampled the YSL yesterday while out Xmas shopping for my 14 year old son ( you can only look at electronics for so long ) and was instantly reminded of Kelly Caleche though the YSL was far more citrus/grapefruit at the start. Found it really interesting as it highlighted how an idea could be developed over a number of years.
Also got informed that there is no such perfume as CdeG Dot. Only…sniff…Marc Jacobs has put out a Dot. SOS.
I haven’t noticed the similarities between those two specifically, but I have noticed strong family resemblances in the work of Bertrand Duchaufour, as though he was building a perfume, and someone said, “Time’s up! It’s not finished, but it’s over!”, so he picked up his train of thought in the next perfume and kept worrying away at it. It makes sense, I suppose. It’s not the same as signature style; more, I think, a drive towards completion or perfection or something.
Yep. The first time I tried KC, I wondered if the bottle had been filled with the right stuff. I even tried a wrist to wrist and couldn’t smell much difference (my ILA is the original version, so I allowed for a slight difference in the very top notes).
Yes…JCE grapefruit!
Cool – thanks. I know you guys would have figured the connection out long ago so thanks for not going ‘Duh!’ (Not that you would, I know). I’m not so sure about grapefruit as a perfume note. Then again it doesn’t have the ‘squeaky clean’ cleaning product associations of lemon. I don’t know…
Wearing SL’s Rahat Loukhoum and finding it too foody. It opened with a blast of almond flavoring/almond paste, and I love almond, but that quickly dissolved into a mix of other scents. I love the other Loukhoum (forgotten the brand), which was a gift from that fresh spirit in Oakland.
Probably Keiko Mecheri?
Wearing vintage Safari today. The older I get, the more my love for this one grows.
ADORE Safari. Wish I had come across this one when it was new, but at the time I was newly married and broke… oh well. I have three bottles of it now. 😉
Very good morning to NST. I have a day of celebrations ahead, and I really want to be festive, but I’m too jolly cold! The Auckland weather has turned very odd–there are people around in puffer jackets, for goodness sake, in mid-ish December! We should be swimming, not huddling out of the wind encased in layers of down. Anyway, this cold snap seems to dictate “warm” perfumes, so I’m wearing the gorgeous Black Cashmere, ever a favourite. It’s not a particularly imaginative choice, but it’s pleasing on every level. The dear one likes BC too, and has just suggested “a hot date for a cold day”. Unpacking that, I have concluded that he intends to buy me a cup of coffee at morning tea time, and I am absurdly and pathetically happy to think of skiving off out of the office to meet him! Yep, we’re now so old that meeting for a sedate latte counts as a hot date! New times produce new ways of being, I suppose…
I think that is really sweet. You’re both lucky to have each other. Enjoy your coffee. It’s December in New England and our temps have been hovering in the mid 50s…. crazy New England weather. It’s a box of chocolates.
Maybe you need a light cashmere coat to match your perfume?
Have a happy day and make sure you takes some cakes with your coffee
Did. and do! I know I have pathetic thin northern blood, but I just have to go back to winter clothes.
I much prefer cold to hot so I’m wishing for colder – it has been a weird December so far in the NY/NJ area — overall warmer than normal.
Sneaking in my comments though insanely busy at work…shhh!
Eau Premiere today, always right.
Still thinking about Habinita which I tried for the first time last night (SD, thanks for the sample!). Found this utterly enchanting: complex warm and grown up.
I’m in patchouli as well having dabbed a few smears of Coromandel.
I just love how this one wears throughout the day, gets warmer and richer by the hour.
I’m a brownie fan. Actually, I think my husband would say I’m more than a fan. I adore brownies. I’ve never met a brownie I didn’t like. My favorite recipe is Deb Perelman’s “my favorite brownies”. They’re dense and oh so chocolaty.
I may be the only person on the planet who doesn’t love brownies. I do love chocolate cake and that flourless version, but not brownies. Must be a texture thing. (No, it’s not that brownies are bad, it’s just that they don’t move me. Shrug.)
No, I’m with you on that, Mals. I’ll bake them for other people, but I don’t care to eat them. But then, I am that anomaly that doesn’t care one way or the other about chocolate in general. I have been re-reading Cold Comfort Farm, and I am struck all over again by the concept of “A Substance Not Encountered in the Outline”. In the book, Aunt Ada Doom was the SNEitO, but when it comes to chocolate, I think that for most people, I might be one too!
Oh I love Cold Comfort Farm, the book and the movie.
“I saw something nasty in the woodshed!”
“Seth, Seth, are you trying to kill your poor old mother?” “Yes, Mother!”
And don’t forget Graceless, the milk cow…
Oh and Pointless — was she the one who had a leg fall off? — and Adam Lambsbreath. But best of all, I love the patches of purple prose. I sometimes think that with the right hat, I could be Flora, but it’s probably wishful thinking.
Brownies are right between cake and flourless cake so it probably is a texture thing. I’m so sorry to hear this… 🙁
Wearing Equistris today. Apparently I really do like iris, but hadn’t tried the right ones.
Wish it wasn’t so windy out today. The squirrels have invaded the attic and crawl spaces again and I need to get on the roof and find the new hole. They were having races in the bedroom floor last night which I did NOT enjoy.
I had a tiny decant of Equistris that I had been hoarding. I just used the last spritz at bedtime last night. It really is beautiful. Probably my favorite Iris scent.
Where are those kitties of yours when you need them? My cat loves squirrels. Although, he invariably gets bit and then I have to take him to the vet for shots. He never learns though. 🙂
My kitties are staying with my Mom this week, thankfully. They would be going bonkers and climbing the furniture to get at the noises if they were here.
Two of them have scored huge field rats this week, so the hunting gene is strong in the twerps. Mom said Newburg managed to get bitten while playing with his prey. Says watching him flailing about with a 6 inch rat attached to his hand was hysterical 🙂 If I thought I could count on them not falling into a wall or eating insulation, I would totally loose the kitties in the attic and sit back to watch the fun.
That would be fun. Fun enough to video… Your kitties have strong hunting instincts.
I actually can’t stand watching my cat torture his prey. I jokingly tell my husband that we’re in the bunny relocation program. I lost count of the small animals that I’ve carted to down the street to get them out of his clutches. He came to us as a juvenile stray so he had to hunt to survive. The first time I saw him he was eating a piece of frozen bread that I had thrown out for the birds.
Sounds like the squirrels can tell “the cats are away.”
🙂
Now, though I completely see that you have a bothering problem, the idea of squirrels upstairs is just so fabulous to me that I have no words! I mean, squirrels. SQUIRRELS! could anything be cuter? those assertive tails and little, little hands! A magic moment for us on our last trip was that some just sort of happened by when we were having a picnic and they actually shared our apples. Aww!
What you’re seeing here is the animal envy of someone who lives in a country with no native land-based mammals. I hope you get your problem sorted, but…squirrels in the house!
Squirrels are super cute until they chew your electrical wires and, as MikasMinion said, make holes to get into your house. I like them very much as long as they live outside. 🙂
Yep. They’re great, OUTSIDE.
We have a lot of chipmunks around here, which are to my mind even more adorable than squirrels. Unless they were to get into my house…
Do Alvin, Simon and Theodore live at your place?
Chipmunks all the way! They’re so cute, and so funny. We have a lot of both chipmunks, and squirrels, in our yard, and I love watching them. My dog is very good about keeping cats out of the yard, but not inclined to chase anything smaller than a cat, so we get a lot more small animal activity in our yard. I think they’ve spread the word that it’s a safe place.
I think the tails make me lose all sense of proportion. I do get the nuisance value, truly — with my head. it’s just that my heart keeps going “Awwww!”
Chips! I follow Bikke the Chip on Instagram; it’s an instant mood lifter.
I think there’s a new Chipmunks movie coming out!
Yeah, they’re cute and all but by the third time your outside furniture was disembowled or your potted plants were all dug out of their pots you would probably change your tune 😉 Besides, they are like little mobile flea and tick machines.
I had the same problem with my potted plants. I looked up online and it said to put mothballs in the planter (on top of the dirt) . It’s probably not good for the plants but summer is short in New England and it works like a charm.
Got to smell Equistrus at our meetup the other day, and it really reminded me of Mythique. Anyone else?
I agree—I think there is a soft leather note in both of them, along with the iris—but as I remember Mythique had a little too much patchouli for my taste. Equistrius is one of my favorites though.
Squirrels!!!
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Rash-of-squirrel-attacks-in-Marin-County-prompt-6670430.php
Robin! You’re shattering every illusion I ever cultivated about cuteness!
Sorry! There were (seriously!) very aggressive squirrels in NW DC when I lived there. So I do not see them as cute.
Must take break from brain scorching troubles at work…… I miss this wonderful distraction…..
SOTD is Miller Harris Rose en Noir…..
Poor sweet Ann!! If I had anything that wasn’t something you’d already gotten me hooked on, I would send it to you! Or maybe a nice box of therapeutic cookies are in order…
That is very nice of you! I just want to go on a brain vacation for about 2 weeks.
I’m with you! Eight more days before the university closes for three weeks, and one of those is undergrad graduation. You can see I’m counting down. I’m going to sit and sog for a bit, then clean every cupboard and the laundry, take in some dresses that have become too large for me (don’t we say that the wrong way round?) and generally not think or read (for work) or plan stuff. I hope you can organise some therapeutic rest too.
I hope you’re able to find brief moments of peace!
I’m in Coco. Nuff said.
I’ve been wearing my Coco a lot the past two weeks. It is just the best.
I remember now that you’re my sister in Coco!
Scent twins, OF. Total love for Coco, must reapply…
I still smell like the Mitzah I put on before sleeping last night. This is the first full wearing of my new decant I got from an NSTer, and it mercifully smells like I recall from my old one, which was the original.
The move plus the injury has led me to discover some decants were evaporating too quickly, but moreover there’s nothing currently stopping me from wearing 2 or more scents in a day. Ah, the life of a shut-in.
I also sprayed on some Mitzah yesterday after an annoying day at work. It’s such a cozy, yet sophisticated fragrance, and it really cheered me up.
Was in Passage d’Enfer today, but put on my comfy sweater when I got home from work today and it still smells like Lumiere Blanche 🙂
No brownies for me today, I made a lemon pound cake over the weekend. This afternoon I’m going to make a pumpkin bundt cake with a tunnel of spiced apples, dates, and pecans topped with a toffee/coffee glaze to share with the neighbors.
I’m wearing a cheap thrill today, Roberto Cavalli Oro. The cardamom and cinnamon are just right on a day when it’s raining pitchforks and hammerheads.
Oh, my! That bundt cake sounds quite decadent. Yum!
That cake does sound yummy..
Is anyone planning to wear the Chupa Chups perfume on Friday? I really want to hear about that one.
I’m totally intrigued by that one too! Even scoured the internet for a bottle but no luck. So curious.
My VCA Bois d’Iris faded, so I gave myself a spritz of Rose Infernale, since it is almost time to go home. 🙂
Ran out of the house willy-nilly this morning, but had some vintage Dioressimo in an emergency decant at work. Things are better with some Dioressimo.
Wearing Profumum Olibanum, smoky guaiac wood and frankincense. Fantastic!
Hey Bear! Where you been?
Hello Oakland!
Thanks for noticing! I read NST every day, but only post occasionally. Busy with life as we all are. 🙂
Okay dokey. Nice to see ya! (waving!)
Eau des Baux, for evening. Pleasant evening, all.
Long day! Went to work an hour early; tis the season for overtime at my job. But the boss took all the goldsmiths out to lunch today before things got too crazy as a pre-emptive thank you for our hard work so that was nice. I was frantic getting myself up and out the door so I forgot to spritz up in my bathroom. Luckily I’ve left my bottle of Grey Flannel downstairs in the bathroom my partner uses in the hopes he will get inspired 😉 I’ve been reaching for GF a lot lately, it feels both comforting and somewhat bracing in the cold weather.
Very late today as I left my cell phone at home and I would never use my computer at work for blog reading because EVERYTHING is monitored.
SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue
I am continuing my week of perfumes with Iris in its name. This is a staple favorite, earthy rooty but sparkly at the same time! I may have overapplied (no regrets) because I noticed that a guy who was standing next to me one minute suddenly moved to a different spot in the next second! Boo on him!
