It's been a long week, but it's finally Friday! Our community project for today: wear an incense fragrance. (suggestion courtesy of Janice)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing my old friend, Ouarzazate, from the Incense series by Comme des Garçons.
Reminder: next Friday, wear a perfume by Pierre Bourdon, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Ouarzazate, located in the middle of a bare plateau south of the High Atlas Mountains [cropped] via World Bank Photo Collection at flickr; some rights reserved.
Thank goodness it’s Friday! It’s been a weird and long-ish week for me. I hope everyone has a good weekend!
I’m wearing Nuit Rouge. Lots of bright citrus and incense.
Weird and long-ish here too! Looking forward to the weekend.
Inspired by yesterday’s discussion on layering I am wearing my own essential oil incense blend of sweet myrrh, frankincense, bourbon vanilla and labdanum as a base with SSS Amber Incense layered over it.
Wow, that sounds divine!
What I like is that it is natural essential oils under an all natural perfume! The oil blend helps to create longevity for the SSS natural…..Later I may add some of SSS Jour E. (as I am craving that today……that is my holy grail perfume!!!)
Agreed!
This sounds really good.
I’m probably one of many wearing Tauer’s Incense Extreme. I’m hoping it will lull me into a meditative state that allows me to get all my work done in 8 hours. Also hoping I didn’t apply too much, hah! This stuff is potent.
It really is potent! Good luck with work 🙂
It worked! I left the office right on time, yay!
I wore that last night – fantastic stuff!
I was leaning towards Shalimar- but instead reached for Jubilation 25 for woman. So so beautiful. Amouage does it right.
For any NYC peeps who love makeup I believe today is the last day of the chantecaille sample sale downtown.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Scent twin!
Where is it?
No baby yet?? ????
Not yet! I feel like the baby may just fall out somedays! Hahaha
I thought about Avignon, but ended up in Fille en aiguilles (which to my nose–and per Luckyscent–has an incense note).
My cardigan (which I wore on a recent visit to a local store that carries SL and haven’t yet washed) is wearing Cedre, Nuit de cellophane, Chene, and Gris clair).
Happy cardy!
I’m wearing Neela Vermeire’s Trayee: I like incense more when it’s blended with other notes and I absolutely love this fragrance. That said, if I had any Serge Lutens La Myrrhe on hand, I would have worn that.
I have a small sample of La Myrrhe but I found it to be a tiny bit soapy. I do think it is very pretty. Do you notice that attribute Annikky?
I found it somewhat soapy too–aldehydes often strike me that way.
Hi Doc, I own a few of Uncle Serge’s scents. I guess I was more surprised that La Myrrhe is one of his stable. It just seems so different from those that I have tried so I was expecting something different.
I’m not a huge SL fan – but I love La Myrrhe, and I agree with you that it doesn’t seem to have a lot in common with the rest of his catalog.
La Myrrhe isn’t aldehydic in the same way that No.5, No.22 or White Linen are. The aldehydes are there, although I wonder whether they are the aliphatic aldehydes of the classics, but in a much less pronounced way. It gives the rest of fragrance a bit of lift. As heart and drydown are fairly dense, in that typical Lutens way. And La Myrrhe is very sweet, to my nose.
Here is a very instructive review. My perception is very different, but I cannot quite pinpoint where it differs.
http://boisdejasmin.com/2005/11/serge-lutens-la-myrrhe-fragrance-review.html
To be honest, I don’t know La Myrrhe at all well, but last time I was in SL boutique in Paris, Boxeuses, Sarrasins and La Myrrhe were the three I considered buying (Boxeuses won in the end, but narrowly). So I know I like it, but cannot really describe it 🙂
Like your new look 🙂
Thank you! Althogh it’s not quite how I look on a daily basis 🙂
Ah, La Myrrhe is my favorite SL, and probably the only aldehydic (is that a word?) fragrance that I wear. I find it almost buttery, and could just swear that it contains tuberose, even though it’s not a listed note. For me, it’s my benchmark myrrh against which I measure all others.
That being said, Trayee is quite lovely, and you smell wonderful!
I haven’t tried it in years…y’all are making me want to give it another go!
I cannot do serious aldehydes either, although I’m trying to get there. But I don’t rememeber having any problem with La Myrrhe.
I think Trayee is the only fragrance I own with incense. I do not get along with incense-dominant scents, but the subtle Trayee blend is lovely.
Same here, I don’t really own anything incense-focussed (I do like a few), but Trayee is wonderful.
TGIF!!!
SOTD: Breath of God.
This scent is truly beautiful and I am glad Lush keeps it around. (They should really consider a shower gel of this if they haven’t already!)
Right now smelling, it seems to be more aquatic and herbal in the cooler weather.
I love Breath of God, it’s a real marvel, i wonder why it doesn’t get mentioned more often?
Ah, good choice! I should buy a bottle of this.
I like it too, one of the two Lush scents that I bought. Wonder if there’s a huge difference between thr solid and the perfume?
Shalimar ! !
Nice…
Beautiful! I almost put that on today!
Twin!!
We smell great 🙂
Im wearing Amouage Interlude Woman. It’s not specifically an incense frag but it has frankincense so close enough! I adore this stuff- one of my favourite Amouages- but looking at reviews it seems to be a bit of the Amouage red-headed stepchild. I think the marigold and dried grass clippings at the beginning is fabulous but maybe not everyone likes to smell like dry grass?! 😉
It smells like ginger ale on me. 🙂 I love it too.
I love this one too. I haven’t met an amouage I didn’t like or at least appreciate, just don’t feel the need to have FB of many of them. My favorite FB is Journey woman – is sassy, classy and has some devilish sexiness to it.
I recently purchased a 5ml decant of journey woman- so beautiful, perfect for a crisp autumnal day, i suspect it would be lovely in the spring time too.
I described Interlude Woman last night as “psychedelic”. I get a lot of kiwi candy and then swirls of incense, resins and moss. Not sure I could wear it all day, but it’s addictive to sniff and one of the trippier things I’ve smelled!
I got my little sample vials muddled this morning, and sprayed on what i thought was Tauer’s Incense Rose, it was actually Jubilation 25.
I need a full bottle of both these beauties!, and there’s plenty of incense in this one as well.
You smell lovely my scent twin!
Hee hee, thank u!
An Incense Horror Story…by Jada
I love the Friday community projects! They inspire me to try new scents and expand my perfume knowledge. Knowing that an incense project was coming, I ordered a sample of Reve d’Ossian a few weeks ago, knowing that would be a full incense experience.
“Horrible awful stinky who died take a shower” was the scent that reeked from my body. I smelled as if I had wallowed in a dumpster of wet, old cardboard. My 9 yr old advised me to take a shower and start again, and he was right on the money! (And that coming from a kid who has to be told to take a shower, or he never would.)
Alas, Reve d’Ossian has a place in the world, but not in my world. I’m sure there are BEAUTIFUL incense perfumes out there for me, but not today! I am wearing Modern Muse Le Rouge now, and enjoying it on this freezing cold Friday! And so ends my tale of woe…..and we all lived happily ever after! 🙂
Too funny! It smells good on me but only lasts an hour, so I only wear it at bedtime.
sorry to hear that!
I would recommend Cardinal or SSS Incense Pure as intro to incense perfumes (imho)
I second Cardinal! Cardinal was the first that actually clicked for me and I still love it.
Thanks for the recommendation! That’s the best part of this community, in my opinion. Several years ago Robin and many of you turned me onto Balenciaga Paris (I was the Monday mailbox person), and I love it! Would never have discovered it if not for NST! 🙂
Jada,
That was too funny! OMG! Best laugh of the morning. So sorry that didn’t work out for you. Unfortunately, that is the only way we learn what we like and don’t like. L’Artisan has a fragrance called “Skin On Skin” that got a lot of love from folks. It sounded like something that would be nice on me. It smelled just like cat urine on me! Made me sick to my stomach. So, I totally get it. Modern Muse is a nice one, though. I hope the rest of your day is a pleasant one.
I’m at work so I couldn’t wear my one true love, vintage Parfum d’Hermes extrait, with its plush, lavish incense (almost a contradiction in terms, I know), so I wore CDG Zagorsk from my bin of untried samples. It’s very nice but nothing more than that on me. I’d wear it but I wouldn’t buy it.
We are cousins 🙂
I never fell for Zagorsk either, or Jaisalmer. The other 3, love.
I do have to try Ouarzazate. I got samples of all five quite a while ago, tried Avignon and liked it well enough, and then promptly forgot about the other four.
Hello and good morning/afternoon/evening. Nice to be back on here and what a great Friday project!
The travel clinic where I got my shots this week is right next to a Marshalls, so after getting shot up with Hep A, Typhoid and tetanus/whooping cough vaccines, I wandered over there and spent a very enjoyable time in the fancy soap and lotion section. I ended up getting a 250ml bottle of Body Shop Smokey Poppy lotion for $3.99 and a nice little 250gr jar of MOR body butter in sugar rose tiger lily for $5.99. Cheap thrills!
SOTD is Smokey Poppy lotion (which reminds me a bit of old school Cinnabar) layered with a little L’air de Rien.
Envious! I LOVE Smokey Poppy! I never find anything like that at my local TJ Maxx. I make have to try Marshalls tonight since I’ll be in that area. Enjoy your loot!
TGIF indeed!
Wazamba for me today
Have a sample from the wonderful Parfum d’Empire set – have not tried it yet…perhaps this evening.
SOTD is Tom Ford Violet Blonde, which may or may not have incense notes but reminds me of incense … that counts, right? 🙂
Of course it counts!
Oh good – phew! 😉
I am wearing Sideris by Maria Candida Gentile. It took me a while to warm up to it but now I love it. I don’t know why I don’t wear this more often because it is a beauty. I am enjoying my own perfume aura today.. not sure what my coworkers think. :0 Have a nice weekend everyone!
You smell great
Thanks! You too! 🙂
Heeley Cardinal – I think it has Peru balsam in it. So good!!
You smell great!!!!!
Scent Twins!
Wearing Exultat today since I haven’t in a while
I want to try that one since I love Sideris… It had great reviews….
I own them both
How was your scent meet up in NYC? one day I will have to join. Any find or fun purchases?
It was fun! We went to Osswald which gave us great service, actually really gracious service as we stayed at least 15 minutes past closing. A few of us got samples and I believe one of us made a purchase, although not me.
Enjoyed seeing our NYC group of perfuming loving gals.
Hope you can join us sometime soon!
We may have snagged a random person into becoming an NST reader. Got to smell Skive and Iris Cendre thanks to Hajusuuri, Josie at Osswald kept saying we should have warned her so that she could have had some snacks handy and maybe rented a disco ball, got to meet Elisa P, and lots of sniffing was done by all. Before meeting up, I had swung by Bergdorf’s to check out the extremely sparkly windows and of course had to visit the perfumes. I tried both Star of the Season and Cross of Asia from Orlov and really need to retry them solo
Cross of Asia is really good! I have a small bit of it in a sample. My favorite of the line.
If you ever decide to do a split of it, let me know– my screen name is my yahoo address
Such a nice time and great meeting you and the rest of the gang in person.
It was really fun! So happy to meet you Elisa.
And thanks to hajusuuri for the sample! Can’t wait to wear it.
I had a great time and if you guessed I was the one who bought a bottle, you would be right! I got Huitieme Art Shermine which Lucas reviewed on his site. I have to categorize this as a big “sample” because there was no tester, but I got it anyway.
I think my one little margarita addled my brain because I took the subway in the wrong direction. Thank goodness I realized it before the first stop so I did not have a long back-track and made the train I wanted to catch.
TGIF!! Wearing the opposite of any cool dry incense today. Giving Cuir Beluga a second whirl and it’s lovely! Happy weekend to all 🙂
Wearing Dzongkha today. It reminds me of my sister who loves incense fragrances.
I’m wearing Dzongkha today, too.
The Bourdon suggestion wasn’t me (I suggested Roucel), but I do like him! And just saw that he did Worth Courtesan, which makes so much sense.
I’m wearing Incense Flash for the first time (which I won through a draw here, yay!).
Ah, thanks! And Roucel is on my list, along with Olivia Giacobetti & surely a few others. 2016…
I’ll try to do a full Roucel week if I can!
Also, the Flash is so nice!
Oh good!!
I’m wearing BPAL Vial of Holy Water perfume oil. I don’t know if it really has incense or not, but I wanted something light today.
Dangit! I so wanted to wear Bois d’Ascense today, since a kind NSTer sent me a sample and said to wait for the cold weather. I tried it for the first time last week and it was divine.
Alas, I completely forgot about incense Friday, so am wearing Byredo’s Green. Lovely, especially in slightly cold weather, but not incense-y on me at all.
After having this sample for over a year, I’ve never given it a full, attentive wearing, so today I’m in Zagorsk. Honestly, my opinion so far is the same as prior quick tests, which is that it starts out smelling largely of carrots and burning rubber (albeit with appealing woodiness that come slater). Maybe I should try layering it with Bvlgari Black.
Anyway, I have my trusty rollerball of Incense Flash with me just in case. Happy Friday everyone!
Eleebelle, that’s wild! I always got incense, some pine/cedar, and a hefty amount of stale sweat. Never once any carrots or burning rubber. Zagorsk definitely wins hands down for weirdest incense scent out there. 🙂
So many choices this morning, but I went with Iris Nazarena.
A solid choice 🙂
Wearing Kyoto today, which to me has the same calming properties as Avignon, but much softer. So easy for my Xmas party hangover 🙂
Scent twins!
Scent triplets, with a wee top off a few minutes ago of Dzongkha.
Scent quad! Is this one bring discontinued? It’s no longer on Barney’s website and the SA there said they had not gotten any new stock in ages and gave me the rest of the tester in a sample!
Wearing Goutal’s Encens Flamboyant. Incense isn’t really my thing, I think, but I do enjoy this fragrance a lot.
I enjoy this one too!
Just to play along, I’m wearing a dab of Armani Satin Encens. Very smooth and lovely though I couldn’t see wearing this often enough to need a whole bottle (it is no cheap thrill).
Will go Commando post shower to leave a clean canvas for today’s Vancouver Sniff-a-thon!
Just tried the Satin Encens yesterday. Nice stuff
I’m not familiar with that one, but I remember really liking Bois d’Encens when I tried it.
I finally (after 2 years?) get to say, Scent Twin! I could swear this started out very rosy on me, like TF Sahara Noir, then after 20 minutes predominantly frankincense.
Its pretty, and I love all the individual resins, but frankincense irritates my breathing. Bois d’Incens put me to bed it irritated so bad (no offense, but when I’m sensitive, I’m *really* sensitive). I’d hoped this would be a *love*, but no. Lately orientals are losing their 40 year appeal, and I seem drawn to greens and citruses.
Have a good weekend, all!
Now that I think of it, I use the resinous essential oils frequently, and don’t have problems at all. So maybe something happens in the base material + frankincense EO that is a problem for me.
Scent twin!
Copal Azur…wonderful…although your decription of Ourzazate makes me want to try that!
I started off the work week with my King Of Incense, Armani Prive Bois d’Encens. Ending with my Queen of Incense, Norma Kamali Incense. Just a teeny tiny little dab’ll do ya with this one.
Woah, yes, the NK is STRONG. Wish they still made that line.
Me too! My very first perfume swap buddy sent me a sample of this, can you believe it? Perfume people are so generous 🙂
We all smell fabulous!!
I remember trekking over to the NK boutique in New York, probably in 2004 or 2005, to try the whole line. Trying more than 1 at a time was enough to knock out your smell receptors for the rest of the week 😉
Bois d’Encens is beautiful!
Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure
gorgeous!
One of my favorite categories of perfume, so I’ve been looking forward to this. Wearing Incense Rose, and enjoying hearing what everyone else has on. We all smell terrific, but then again, we always do, right?
I’m wishing a bit that I had some Incense Rose here, I would have worn that one today 🙂
Now that jub 25 has faded somewhat, i’ve used up my sample (sob!)
of Incense Rose, ready for the pub this evening, fabulous stuff scent twin!
Robin we are scent twins today…I am also wearing Quarzazate. I love C d G’s incense line.
Hey twin! We smell so fantastic 🙂
I’ve punked out completely on incense. Just wanted to wear something cheerful. So, Honore des Pres’s Sexy Angelic. Maybe it’s incense-adjacent–pastries after church??
SOTD is Barbara Bui Le Parfum, my favorite soft, comforting winter skin scent, its incense note adding a meditative quality to its character, quietly unobtrusive, yet not . . .
In shocking news, I am in Encens Mythique. Actually, it’s not usually what I wear on a day off.
Passage d’Enfer – haven’t worn it in ages, and helped changed my trajectory toward something sweet.
I had planned on wearing Timbuktu, but in the end went with the cozier TF Sahara Noir – a dense cloud of incense and amber (love it).
Yeah, I was planning on Timbuktu today also, but I just wasn’t feeling it this morning. I went with something sandalwoody because it seemed warmer (it’s cold here today). I used to burn a lot of sandalwood-scented insence sticks back in college, so I’m sort of in the in-crowd. Tam Dao is my SOTD.
I’m in Amouage Lyric Woman, which may have some incense, though I wouldn’t describe it as “an incense”. So, to be more in line with the theme, I added a few dabs of Papillon Anubis to my wrists.
You smell great and I’m envious. I was so hoping my decant of Lyric would arrive today, but alas.
Whoops – forgot about incense project. In Tauer L’Air du Desert Moroccan (struggling will my spell check, so leaving that as is)
Y’all smell fab!
Wearing the last of a sample of Amouage Memoir Woman, which was given to me by a generous NSTer. Guess what’s going to the top of my Christmas list?
I love Memoir. It’s utterly freaky – witchy herbal/white floral/furry leather is the best description I can come up with – but addictive.
Love your description, Mals!
Ya just scared me, mals.
Memoir is fab!
Memoir is fantastic. It’s such a perfect fall/winter fragrance. You smell great!
I’m in Kyoto today. I love incense fragrances (though not as much as Pixel does 🙂 ) and have a lot from which to choose. Kyoto appealed to me because I find it calming and meditative this morning.
Heh. I am thinking of continuing Incense Week all thru next week as well. Since I certainly didn’t get to all my lovelies this week 🙂
La Myrrhe today. Love, love La Myrrhe, but you do have to like aldehydes.
I am the AldeHo, myself. But then, I don’t get “soapy” from aldehydes. “Powdery,” yes. (“Soapy,” to me, is orange blossom – flat, creamy, dull soap – and I do not enjoy that aspect of OB at all.)
I don’t wear this often; it’s the one fragrance I feel like saving for special occasions, because I find it beautiful and deep, like sunrise colors on snow that’s white and blue with tree shadows. I might wear it ten times in a year and it stays special.
I’ve read so many wonderful things of La Myrrhe that I must try this in TOH next year too. My “To Try” list for our trip has now been organised into three layers of priority: Try without fail; important to try; nice, but not essential. It’s still rather a a fluid classification system, but LM has just moved from the middle tier to the top. My poor, dear, tolerant man! I hope he can find lots of things to think about mathematically on this trip, ‘cos I’m going to be very busy sniffing!
I like aldehydes and myrrh but for some reason haven’t come around on this one. I don’t hate it but it doesn’t feel comfortable either. I saved my sample to try again.
AldeHo. !! Coffee coming out of my nose hurts!
Sounds fantastic! Is it in the export line?
Sadly, La Myrrhe is not part of the export line. Maybe it will be the next exclusive chosen as the 2016 limited edition offer in the export line, though…does anyone know which exclusive has been chosen for 2016?
I’m still on the fence with La Myrrhe – I get that soapy feel with lots of aldehyde, but it seems to come and go a bit with La Myrrhe. It’s on my list of things to research in more depth should I be heading to a part of the world where it’s available (sitting here eating my breakfast and dreaming of a trip to Paris 🙂 ).
Happy Friday Everyone! Feeling much better today, and dare I say it, I will be ready to go back to work on Monday. I have been out for 2 weeks now (previous week for the Thanksgiving Break). I didn’t realize until yesterday that my SOTD had incense in it until another NST commenter mentioned it, so I am wearing Dark Amber and Ginger Lily by Jo Malone. This was a recent purchase for me, and I am loving it.
Now I am REALLY going to have to sample this one! I’ll be in the city on Sunday so I will try to squeeze in a JM boutique detour! have you tried the Mimosa and Cardamom?
Me too. Didn’t like it the first time but that was before I went down the rabbit hole, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I love it now.
Hello to everyone. I’m leaping and bounding about this morning in a haze of Jubilation 25, which is my favourite of all the Amouage line, but not the one I wear the most. I must do sonething about that–it would be very silly, at my age, not to enjoy this glory to its fullest. I always feel sad about the stories of people found with drawers full of unworn pretties and bottles of unworn perfumes–all those missed opportunities for small daily pleasures and little private thrills. So: resolved by Waterdragon: wear Jubilation at will, enjoy, and accept that when it’s finished, that game is over.
Love Jubilation 25. It was my first experience with Amouage and very formative 🙂 One of my favourite lines (shame I fall for the costly things!).
Don’t we all, though? Fall I mean? I wriggle and squirm through complicated calculations that allow me to balance the $$$ against the pleasure. The dear man says my reasoning is utterly specious and flawed, and I’m sure he’s correct. Correct, but not right, if you see what I mean.
I know exactly what you mean! I think it’s the difference between objective and subjective considerations 🙂
I like to describe myself as deliberately extravagant. I look for opportunities to save a few dollars here and there so that I can spend crazy amounts on things that I enjoy. If you look after the pennies, the pounds will look after themselves, and then you can spend them on perfume 🙂
I love “deliberately extravagant” and I’ve decided to aspire to it. When I grow up, I will be deliberately extravagant, instead of just extravagant. Though–this might be the first step towards maturity–I went to World yesterday and didn’t buy Nanban on the spot. Or anything, though I was sorely tempted by a couple.
The game is not over yet….wear it joyfully and frivolously, for look…….
http://www.fragrancenet.com/perfume/amouage/amouage-jubilation-25/eau-de-parfum#213654
Yes, I would be the one they would be throwing out of Perfume Addicts Anonymous were such a 12 step to exist!
Oh…Bardot, I have enough perfume to be embalmed in! But that thought didn’t stop me. Credit card at the ready, I bravely ventured forth!
I name you my Enabler of the Week, and your pin has three bright shiny stones!
this week is neverending! I forgot all about the incense theme today. Instead I went gift shopping at Sephora and decided to refresh my memory on some classics so I’m stinking it up with Samsara on one arm and Poison on the other. Potent mix!
Whoa!
I’m wearing Aesop Marrakech. It’s spicy with cloves rather than a big incense hit but I like it. Yesterday I wore Sweet all day, reapplying several times. I found the scent more raspberry than cherry cola at its beginning. As it began to fade I got a very pale honey note…a runny honey ( like willow honey ) rather than clover or Rata or Manuka honey. Then it became a little drab towards the end. The musk seemed a bit washed out. But I think I quite like it overall and I also think it would be good layered. Was woken in the night by a morepork (owl) in the garden. It’s called a morepork because Europeans recognised it’s call as more-pork, more-pork ( rather than tiwit tiwoo). It’s Ruru in Maori which suits it better. Ruru Ruru …nice,eh. I have to go to a party later…my first party in over 5 years and I will only know the host so will take Noz Coz’s words that choosing a perfume is half the battle to heart…
Snap! We have a party tomorrow. I love parties, but I feel oddly apprehensive about this one. For just about the first time in my life, I just dunno what to take or what to wear, and the dear one is no help at all. “Wear that pink thing. It looks fine.” Pink thing???? What pink thing? “You mean this rather tailored dress? To a barbecue?” (Warily) “Yes. Or what about that blue one? It looks fine.” “Shall I make a pavlova?” “OK”. “Or potato salad?” “That’d be good.” And so on. Grrrrr! For a bright chap, he can be remarkably obtuse sometimes!
I kind of hate parties. I just want people to stop talking and be quiet for a moment. My ideal party would be a room filled with large comfy chairs, books and magazines and a table covered in food. Everyone would just sit down and read and then go home.
I know exactly how this party will go. It’s will be full of university types and doctors. I will adopt a really friendly and interested persona and come across as weird. Then I will stand or sit by myself for ages and just watch everyone. Then , if I’m lucky, I will find a really interesting woman to talk to…usually one that has been overlooked/ dismissed by all the others because she is ‘just’ a wife or mother…and then, hopefully, we will have a conversation about everything beyond what ‘we do’.
Maybe at least one of the academic types will have a self-deprecating wit and not bore on and on about a new and flawed interpretation of Foucault or the political economy of the media. Maybe someone will have brought a decent red and you’ll score a glass of it rather than the nondescript Chardonnay that most people will be drinking with thought. I hope you find a whole group of interesting women, and that you all warm to one another so much that you decide to meet on Tuesday next week for good tea and conversation in that easy little cafe just off the Octagon (can’t remember its name, but it does (did?) good chocolate and raspberry muffins). I hope that some of the interesting group is male actually, which is not completely impossible and would add a certain something to the newly formed salon, of which you will be the leading light because of your point of view and coolth. And of the six or so interesting people you end up having morning tea with, I hope that two become really close friends.
I go to parties in hope, as you can see…
Yep… I am working on bucking up and being positive. There won’t be anyone from the humanities so it will be Foucault free…I will hunt out a perfume wearer/lover and report back.
Remember you have coolth, Kanuka, a rare attribute indeed. Don’t share it with just *anyone*.
I had to look up coolth and what a cool word!
I showed my husband your post, and he actually thought I had written it! Your reading party sounds like my ideal get together. I’d just add in some dogs or cats to snuggle while reading! Perhaps one day I’ll learn to enjoy mingling, but I suspect that day is far off. I just find it exhausting.
Introvert book and animal lovers unite! I avoid parties but yours sounds perfect.
I have to admit that I could party with my two dogs all day! I have a friend who gave me a t shirt with the slogan
Dogs….cause people suck!
( I do like people … Especially perfume people)
Will wear premier Figuier EXTREME
I can SO identify.
I would definitely go to a book-reading party. I will bring home-baked goodies but no one has to talk about them.
And we could all bring perfume for random silent testing!
I was going to wear Zagorsk but my work shirt still smelled strongly with Lyric, so I continued down that line.
I wore Zagorsk today and Lyric yesterday. We were almost double twins!
Almost. I’m probably going to be wearing it tomorrow as well. It’s that tenacious but that’s what I love about Amouage.
Quick reminder that this afternoon at 3:30 a few of us are meeting at the Perfume Shoppe:
757 W. HASTINGS ST.
VANCOUVER
Love to see you if you’re free.
Incense often gives me a headache, in real life and in perfume so I don’t own any straight incense scents. So I went with Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple (solid perfume) – it’s more about spice than incense, but it does put me in a holiday mood!
YOu smell fabulous…I find the solid to be much sweeter and gingerbread laden than the spray which is more “incensy” to me (but I love them both! 🙂
Gingerbread indeed! I just put on some more. I haven’t tried the spray yet.
I am waering Olivier Durbano Black Tourmaline since I wanted a little rough edge with my incense.
Haven’t worn this in ages – I need to pull this one out again, along with his Heliotrope.
No perfume yet, as I’m finishing breakfast and about to have a shower. Reading everyone’s comments, I’ve realised just how much I like incense perfumes.
I’ve been working my way through samples of the CdG incense series and have told myself I can have a FB of one, but I’m torn between Ourzazate and Avignon – those samples are used up and have been dithering for about a year. I’m so not an impulse buyer 🙂 I still have some drops left of Kyoto, so that might be just the thing for Saturday morning supermarket shopping!
Avignon. It´s nice to do my errands smelling like a Parisian church.
Good luck with your errands and you smell great
I’d intended to wear Unum LAVS for Incense Friday, but it didn’t seem right for this unseasonably mild and sunny December day, so I chose Amouage Fate Woman instead. I have several Amouage fragrances, but Fate has quickly become my favorite, and it feels just perfect today. Spicy benzoin-labdanum-incense-vanilla heaven.
Fate! Yes. You smell perfect.
I love Fate!
Wearing POTL (Luctor et Emergo). I’ve always thought of this one as incense-y.
Jaisalmer from a lovely box of incense samples sent from a terrific NSTer. I thought this was going to be the one I would fall for, so I held off trying it till today. It’s nice and spicy and warm, but so far not true love. Going to save the second half of the sample to try again later just in case.
Also I suspect it will be gone by the time of the Vancouver meetup later today which is both good and bad.
I wasn’t in the mood for Kyoto today, so I went with Byredo 1996, which for some reason lately I’ve been thinking I want to wear, but I never manage to have that thought at the time I’m actually deciding what perfume to wear. It’s like thinking of a great comeback an hour after the time to have said it has passed.
More about smoke and leather and camphor, I am wearing the incomparable Lonestar Memories with a spritz of Lust to top it off. All the green upfront in this fragrance reminds me of jasmine and so a little extra just seems to make it perfect.
Late to the party today because Inwas in a retail therapy mood again today. Donatella will have to sit through a long confession from me. I met up with Fears Mice (and her posse of sisters and a brother-in-law) at Barneys. Frederic Malle was there to celebrate 15 years of directing the line. I ended up getting another shower gel – Eau de Magnolia. I think I’m all set with shower gels and soaps for the next 10 years!
SOTD = L’AP Seville a l’Aube
I can wear this one year round. This was my gateway to orange blossom although I have to say this is so far the only orange blossom I like. The combination with lavender, honey, benzoin and incense is so smooth and silky!
I know I am super late to the party, but I was SO excited to check this and realize that I followed the theme by accident. 10 Corso Como, one of my favorite and first incense loves!
