Another week begins, and I'm already running late. Hope your Monday is going well! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Le Labo Tubereuse 40.
Reminder: this Friday, 11/27, we are giving thanks: wear a perfume you're thankful for. (suggested by thegoddessrena)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
SOTD Tauer PHI rose de Kandahar
Short work week- yippee!!
A 3 day week never hurts 🙂
All weeks should be 3-day weeks, IMHO.
Since my decant of Lush Potion evaporated (so sad), I clearly have to wear some other precious, so vintage Bois des Iles extrait it is
Hate it when that happens!
*cries* I love Potion, so I feel ya!
Thanks for the condolences
24 Faubourg yet again.
You smell wonderful.
Day three of Chanel no 5. It’s going to be the perfume I am wearing until Wednesday. Thanksgiving will be something else. Not looking forward to work these next few days.
Also in Chanel – SOTD = Coco
I share your sentiments for work. I’m somewhat dreading the amount of work I need to cram in to these next three days. Good luck to both of us!
It’s my husband’s birthday so I’m wearing one of its favourite on me: Stella EDP by Stella McCartney.
I first smelled Stella on Saturday, and I thought it was really pretty.
I agree. It’s very easy to love without being bland either imo.
Nice, hope he has a great birthday.
Thanks! I hope so too
Hope he has a great day! So nice of you to wear what you know he will love
Thanks, though it is also (mostly!) for the selfish pleasure of receiving his compliments and hugs! 😉
Tubereuse is the lovely green cologne one, right? I miss having a sample of that one.
I’m wearing just a dab of Ma Griffe parfum, which I found in an antique store this weekend. I’m enjoying it but I wouldn’t hunt it down when I’m done.
It’s basically a very cheerful orange blossom / citrus.
Nice find — is it the little mini bottle? I had one of those.
That’s the one. Lovely but ridiculously overpriced.
One of the tiny minis that was probably in one of those sample sets they put out in the 60’s. I steal at only a few dollars!
The videos on Jasmine that are on this blog and other blogs inspired me to wear Samsara (that has Jasmine Sambac)
Yay Samsara! I need very little inspiration to wear it ????
Wearing warm and lovely Attrape Coeur on this chilly Monday..very grateful for my nice decant of this hard to find scent. Very short week for me – have arranged to take Wednesday off! 5 days in a row off…closest thing to a vacation I’ve had in years…
Enjoy those five days!
I am afraid I have several days of it already filled up with finishing little projects – hang the curtains I finally got sewed up in my bedroom, build new stairs for the chicken coop before someone breaks a leg, add one more grow light to Light Box #2 for my indoor lettuce garden, and build LIght Box#3 – for herbs and radishes! But I intend to spend a few hours watching some old favorite movie for warm weather scenery, maybe Cold Comfort Farm, or Enchanted April, or A Good Year, and sorting out my knitting projects…
Little projects galore, what a wonderful way to balance productivity and relaxation!
Enjoy your time 🙂
Yes, I am very eager to putter around, I love that sort of thing. Having something in your hand so you can say, “This is what I did today!” Much nicer than unending meetings and unending error queues which is my work life at the moment…
Whoa, scent twins! I’m also wearing Attrape Coeur. I know I like it, but I still don’t quite understand it.
It is so wonderfully complex, I just kind of go along for the ride. Right now, I have spices over a greenish base…later I know it will be more woody ambery. Might get more flowers between here and there, tho.
I have about 2mls left of my 5ml A-C decant. Beautiful stuff.
🙂
My SOTD is Fir-Ever-Young, from Velvet & Sweet Pea. It’s a beautiful woody fragrance, perfect for the cold weather. I’m not a fan of the name, though…
I like the name, it would be especially clever if it smells like a fresh/green fir sapling. I’m also in the woods with Chanel Coco. Woodsy scents are so satisfying in the fall!
So of course, I immediately started thinking…what would Fur Ever-Green smell like? 😉
So I got the job….at a much needed salary increase…..and I had a reasonably long text conversation with Señor Handsomeface on Friday.
I am deeply grateful for the fact that everything’s coming up Ihadanidea right now! I will not take it for granted.
And I am also INCREDIBLY grateful for the tremendous support I received from all of you on Friday. You may be tired of me saying it, but this really is the warmest and kindest place on the internet. Thanks for being an amazing support system, even if it only the internet!
Lots of love to you all, and I waft my Tom Ford Noir de Noir wrists at all of you by way of thanks.
Congratulations! On everything – and what a great way to start the week. You are making me very curious to try the new TF.
Thank you!
Is Noir de Noir new? For some reason I thought it had been around for a bit. I think Tom Ford Noir is the new one, but I haven’t smelled that yet!
How fabulous
Congrats! Hope things continue to go your way 🙂
Oh how awesome!! My hours didnt leave any time to comment last week but I did read of your sassy approach to Señor Handsomeface with delight! I hope his heart is as pretty as his face 🙂
And congrats on the job!!! I hope it’s one that you really wanted and will love. You have such a wonderful approach to life so surely life loving you right back is the only way to go, right? 🙂
Congratulations!
Congratulations! You’ve put up with a lot this year, so this is a well-deserved dose of awesomeness. 🙂
This just made my morning – so nice to hear a story of everything going the right way. Congratulations on the new job, and best of luck with Mr. H. 🙂
Thrilled for you on all fronts! 😀
Yay, congratulations! That’s fantastic!
Lovely, congrats!
Good job! Congrats!
Congratulations! Well deserved :-).
CONGRATS! I am sending you a warm, scented hug from Beaverton, Oregon! You deserve it! Give 110% at your new job AND have fun with El Senor!
What a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving. Congrats on it all! And yum on the Noir de Noir. I just ordered a fragrance, blindly, that is supposed to be quite similar, aside from the price. We’ll see…
What’s the name of the perfume you ordered, please? Curious.
It’s called Club de Nuit Intense for women by Armaf. I got it on eBay for $25US.
Wow, sounds like a winner at that price.
Yea to pages turning and new chapters getting written!!
Excellent news!! I’m very happy for you
Great news! And I agree, this is a great place.
I reckon you need to change your name to Ihadabrilliantidea…thumbs up for your new job and romance
Congratulations! You’ll have to tell all the next time we see each other!
How fun! Congratulations!
Such good news! Well done, that woman. Hope the beautiful man is as nice as he is handsome, and that he appreciates you as you deserve.
wonderful news, ihadanidea!, on both fronts. seconding waterdragons sentiments completely!
Wonderful! So lovely when things just go right.
I will not take it for granted 🙂
Lots of love to you!
To you too!
Congratulations, that’s super!
Thanks Mariann!
Yay!
Thank you! Also, loved that pinstriped dress from your Instagram the other day – I want one!
Yay congrats on the new job, and wishing good luck with Señor Handsomeface (love the name).
No idea how he became Señor, but it just seemed right 🙂
Thanks dear!
Congrats on the job. I missed the whole Senõr story but good luck with him too. It’s so nice when people have good news to share. I’d love a new job so other people finding them gives me hope.
Directing all my positive job karma your way – you will find it!
Congratulations! I was hoping to see an update today. You are absolutely right, this community is so warm and supportive. I am fortunate to have found it. I wish you all the best in these new endeavours.
Thanks Lillyjo! Aren’t we all collectively lucky to have found each other?
Congratulations on the new job! Hope it turns out to be fun and fulfilling. Good luck with Senor H. We will all be living a little vicariously through you!
Thank you! I will keep you all updated.
Congratulations!!! 🙂
Thank you!!
Is the LeLabo Tubereuse at all tuberose? Is it nice regardless? I like anything tuberose 🙂
Ive spent most of the last few days in Reem Acra. A mini obsession for it it seems. It reminds me of something I wore about 23 years ago because I have flashbacks of what I was doing then (having lots of fun!), but I cant for the life of me recall what it couldve been. Ive been mentally listing the perfumes I wore then, and things like Yardley Sweetpea dont fit this slightly medicinal, ambery orange blossom. I’m loving this stuff, but wishing it lasted longer.
No, no noticeable tuberose. But very nice otherwise, excepting the ridiculous price.
In Molecule 01 which is going rather well with a sparkly cardigan and a cold London day. Hope everyone in the US and outside who celebrates Thanksgiving enjoys a refreshingly short week.
A sparkly cardigan and a beautiful perfume – lovely way to start a cold Monday. I’m certainly looking forward to the short week here!
Several sprays of Dries Van Noten par Frederic Malle, which I’ve been wearing since I bought it on Friday. I’m addicted already. It’s perfect for the holiday season, especially now with snow on the ground. I predict the travel spray won’t last me into the new year. 🙂
Its a beautiful scent and but when I tried it I felt like it became a second skin scent to soon and I wanted more more more!
I agree – hence the several sprays!
I can imagine it’s lovely with snow!
Yes, so cozy and soft and speculoos-y!
Enjoy it! Unfortunately, the “exploding musk” (coined by thegoddessrena) caused it to be banished from my breathing space — I felt like I was being suffocated.
There is a feeling like a thick wool blanket at first, but for me it soon shrinks down to, say, a lightweight wool-cashmere throw.
Dries!! *waiting impatiently for my 10ml travel spray to turn up in my mailbox*
Hope it arrives soon!
I’m wearing Iris Cendre – I bought a 50 ml bottle this weekend. I think it’s a very good scent and a good winter iris, thanks to the smokiness. It’s also good for work, as it’s quite elegant and contained, but not boring.
This really sounds amazing. I need to check that out.
Yes, checking-out recommended!
Hi Annikky, nice to see you posting again. I’m also in iris, a la Iris Nobile EDT. I’m a fan of Naomi Goodsir and will be ordering a sample of Iris Cendre very soon, based on several good reviews here on NST.
I just got back from my Sweden/Estonia trip today, had three hours of sleep and went straight to work, so my comments might be even less coherent than usual. I like Naomi Goodsir as well and I think this is my favourite from her yet. Iris Cendre is definitely worth trying, although probably not the thing for people who like their perfumes warm and very opulent.
Hi Annicky, good to see u posting, i’ve been thinking of u, during the high state of alert in Brussels at the moment. Stay safe.
Thank you for thinking of me! I’m home with my family and all is well.
Ooh, lovely.
It is 🙂
You smell great! I’m surprised at how much I like Iris Cendre, which I wore yesterday but would have been a good scent for the weather today. Everyone has been concerned about you in these extra-stressful times. Hope you’re doing well.
This is kind of you (and everybody), I’m safe and well. Iris Cendre seems to have a surprisingly wide fan-base and I’m glad it’s getting the love. I like the brand in general, I think all the scents are well made and distinctive and I like that there are so few of them!
Hope everything is going ok on your end and you not too stressed with all the drama in Brussels.
Thank you, I’m doing completely OK, but I’m of course also known for under-responding to dangers. I do think the situation is serious, I’m just not wired for panic – and it wouldn’t help in any case.
I’m glad you’re okay. I wish I had some of that calm demeanor of yours.
Think of you and the other Belgium residents when I watch the news. Hope you all are safe. How are you all effected by all this?
Thanks, Elisa. There are some practical considerations (metro not working) and the constant police sirens, but otherwise it feels relatively calm – although there are obviously concerns about the safety of the Commission buildings/staff. The main thing for our family is that as the schools are closed, my daughter stays home until the government changes the alert level. But she seems quite unaffected by all this, mostly devising plans how to lure terrorists into a trap in the desert, by the cunning use of gummybears.
Childhood innocence: if only gummy bears were the solution to the world’s problems… It all sounds unnerving but I lived in Israel during the 1st Intifada in the 80’s and life was calmer in reality than how it appeared on the news.
As we haven’t had any attacks, it’s not quite comparable to Paris – or Israel, for that matter. But they’ve just announced that it’ll be level 4 for tomorrow at least, schools still closed.
I’m glad that L. is doing her bit to keep Europe, and Brussels in particular, a safe and happy place. Children are the best though. We can only really deal with what is.
And I knew you would get Iris Cendre. It’s on my sample list at the Skins boutique, to be ordered no earlier than December.
Yes, I’m predictable, too 🙂 Not sure what you’d make of it, but I think the quality is good enough to warrant a try.
The gummibears made me smile! Glad to hear all is ok, even with all the hassle.
It’s a great plan, isn’t it :)?
Lol the world’s most adorable counterterrorism efforts
And speaking of which.. I just saw this video on my home page, and in light of your daughter’s gummy-bear-based strategizing, I thought it was funny:
http://www.msn.com/en-us/video/news/belgians-use-cat-memes-to-confuse-terrorists/vi-BBnm9Q9
I haven’t liked an iris this much in a long time, Annikky! Though I just have a tiny sample, I’m sure this one will make it onto my FB wish list. Hoping all is well with you in Belgium 🙂 .
I’m fine, thank you! And it really is a great, unique iris.
Oh, but that sounds super pretty and different! I would need to sample that sometime.
Yes, do, if you can! I don’t know your taste well enough, but if you can do iris, definitely worth trying.
Three hours sleep is never good – but hopefully somewhat made up for by a lovely perfume. Is it at all like Violet Fumee in the restrained smokiness?
I think that they are quite different: going by memory, VF is denser and (I feel) less refined. But VF didn’t work for me -although I was sure I’d love it – so my opinions must be treated with skepticism.
Elegant and contained …. I missed out on those genes ( I got a double dose of scruffy ) . Iris Cendre sounds beautiful. You’ll be turning heads at work!
I think (possibly misguidedly) I can pull off elegant for a limited period of time. Contained… I’m not sure. Have you tried any if the Goodsirs?
No I haven’t but I will read up on them now.
I’ve bought Bois d’Ascese twice for my boyfriend, so I have very nice associations with the brand.
I’m sure, dear Anniky, that you do elegance like breathing…it comes naturally, and it’s essential to you!
Lovely of you to say so, waterdragon, although too generous. Thank you.
Glad to hear that you and your family are taking these events in stride.
Thanks!
I wore Iris Cendre yesterday and enjoyed it tremendously! I posted yesterday to the effect of this is for the person who does not like the icy carrotty vibe of Iris Silver Mist. The iris I get from Iris Cendre is also similar to that of DSH Scent of Hope without the peach opening. Contrary to what I posted yesterday, there is no cedar; there is something that makes the perfume cozily warm and spicy. Also, just when I thought it went poof after 8 hours (2 sprizez), it came surging back during hour 10 when I was running errands going from warm to cold to warm to cold surroundings. It is very well done!
I’m glad you’re doing well. I think your daughter is so adorable!
I think this one can be a bit of a shape shifter – sometimes it’s greener, sometimes smokier, sometimes slightly more floral. And today I actually smelled a woody note at some point that could have been cedar. I think it smells different in close-up and from afar, too (I mean, more than an average scent). In any case, I agree it’s well done.
And thank you – I find her adorable as well, most of the time 🙂
Wearing something from a long-neglected bottle this morning, Penhaligon’s Elixir.
Love that one! I need to buy a bottle so I can neglect it 😉
I’m sampling Grandiflora Madagascan Jasmine on this bright, crisp morning. It frankly doesn’t suit the weather at all, but I’m anticipating pretty tropical sillage when I get warm at the gym and afterward as I lug my Hoyas and other delicate plants back outside. It’s a pain being a gardener without a greenhouse in this climate. Hope everyone has a lovely short work week.
How is that one? I do love stephanotis.
A very pretty creamy-green-white floral. Quite realistic stephanotis, as far as I can tell. I haven’t sniffed the flowers for several years though. I may need a little decant come summertime.
We are having a perfect fall day here in East Texas, crisp and clear with gorgeous blue skies. The temperatures have fallen below freezing for the first time this fall, so I was inspired to wear one of my favorite cold weather fragrances, Tibetan Mountain Temple.
Big blue Texas skies, a warm sweater and that perfume sounds truly lovely.
SOTD is Rouge Bunny Rouge Arcadia, a nice woodsy office-appropriate scent.
PSA: Mandy Aftel is offering Bergamoss in liquid format for a short while…
OMG, you just enabled me but I may have to wait ’til I get home to check it out.
LOL! Go, go hajusurri!
I am so tempted, since we like so many of the same things…
My week is not complete until I have enabled someone 😉
SotD is OPARDU. It makes me feel pretty even in my work-from-home ugly sweatpants.
I’m wearing my work-from-home ugly ponte knit pants. (I mean, they’re acceptable to pop out and go to the grocery store in… they don’t show stuff I don’t want shown… but they’re ugly. I just don’t want to wear my good pants around the house.)
I’ve heard it said that dressing for work even when you work from home can boost productivity, and I keep telling myself I’m going to try it for a week. I haven’t done it yet. But I always dress myself in perfume. Not sure how much it boosts productivity, but…I do smell good. ????
I have concluded that one of the true luxuries is having in one’s closet only clothes that feel comfortable and look great. No “pretty but not fitting quite right”, no “ugly but in too good a shape to give away”….I am working toward this end, by the simple expedient of each time a buy a new piece, I get rid of 2!!
What a great rule to shop by! Comfort and beauty. I can imagine the freedom of being done with those items in my closet that I only look at but rarely wear because I dislike feeling squeezed in or otherwise uncomfortable.
You smell great. Opardu is one of my favorite girly-girl florals!
Thank you! Mine, too. I love the way it lingers on my clothes.
It’s VERY pretty.
Chooo-choooo!
All aboard the drama train this morning in my office!
I knew today would be busy since we’ve got a short week and reports immediately afterwards, so I’m trying to get ahead while I can. That being said I was in several impromptu meetings this mornings with the higher-ups about a few office drama issues surrounding a couple employees that have basically alienated the rest of the office with their negative nancy-ness and general whiner mode. Our office is very small so when a toxic person is introduced the effect is pretty much immediate. I’m actually surprised it’s lasted this long, but it seems like we’ll be nipping it in the butt very soon.
It’s cold out and I needed a power scent to keep me in line, so I put on spicy Amouage Opus IV.
Ugh. People like that are water cooler grumblers. I hope you are able to re-train them and have them understand what their responsibilities are. I had that initially with some of employees at my job, and management very firmly set them on the right path.
You smell grand, like a queen.
There’s a weird dynamic with the drama makers. I don’t know if it’s possible to re-train either of them, but one of them most likely won’t be working here for much longer. She clearly overstated her abilities when we hired her and 6 months later we still aren’t seeing desired results. The other one, I think, might change her tune when the first ones goes because she won’t have a sidekick backing her up anymore. Maybe then the issues will subside. We shall see.
Thanks! This fragrance is definitely empowering.
It cooled off a bit so I am breaking out some fall fragrances. Today is Cartier La Treizieme Heure, which I like but is not quie enough to go on as if someone tore out a third of the pages of a novel before handing it to you to read.
I had a frazzled, running-late, traffic-y morning, and J. Crew/Arquiste 57 is carrying me through. In fact, both of the J. Crew/Arquiste scents have fallen into my no-brainer category. Funny that I was only lukewarm on them when I first tried them and glad I had the strange compulsion to keep re-trying them anyway.
I find No.57 to be an easy wearable choice for this time of year
Me too. Almost wore that today….
Today is my 38th birthday, and I will be working a 12-13 hour day. Grades are due in a few hours and parent conferences begin this evening. So, I am wearing a fortifying force-shield of No. 19 edp, which will certainly help me push through the day! (And maybe glancing here from time to time to give my brain a break! 😀 )
Happy birthday!
I hope the work parts are painless, and that you have a wonderful birthday!
Happy birthday! No. 19 is a wonderful choice for your day & tasks, and just plain wonderful, period.
Happy Birthday!
Happy happy happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!
happy birthday!
Happy Birthday, young’n ????
Happiest of days to you Marjorie Rose. Hope you had some time for you in the midst of all this intense activity!
Happy Birthday and beautiful perfume choice
Happy Birthday! No 19 sounds like a good choice!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!
Happy Birthday and we are scent twins today!
Happy Birthday!
Wishing you loads of happiness, health and peace in your next rounds around the Sun!
Many happy returns of the day!
Hoping you have the best of birthdays, even if your day is long. You smell lovely!
Happy Birthday Marjorie Rose. I’m surprised you guy’s aren’t off the whole week like we are. Hoping your day and week is a good one.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy happy birthday Marjorie Rose! Thirty eight looks and smells good on you 🙂
Happy birthday! Do let us know if Mr. Spicebomb gets you anything fragrant! ????
Oh happy birthday!! I hope 19 worked its magic, and that you had an otherwise lovely and fragrant day! As Sapphire says, yes please do let us know if Mr. Spicebomb comes up with something special for the birthday! 🙂
Happy Birthday, Marjorie Rose. May many fragrant gifts come your way!
Happy birthday lovely! Sorry to be late to your party!
Happy birthday!!! Hope you have lots of fun things planned for the rest of your birthday celebration week (or month…)
I’ve decided to do a week-long exercise of gratitude fragrances, and am starting today with the lovely Ormande Jayne Ormande Woman. Two sprays haven’t lasted very long, though, and I wish I had tucked my bottle in my bag! This was a Christmas present last year from my husband, and I love its woodsy warmth.
“Exercise of gratitude”! What a fabulous concept.
Wish I’d run across this post before I decided to sample… of course, I might not have to wait long before the sample wears off and I can put on something I’m grateful for. That’s pretty much the only benefit of scent-eating skin.
I had fun going through my perfume collection yesterday and deciding which fragrances I would wear during the week. 🙂
Farouche,
Am I remembering correctly that you have a bottle of Tendre Est La Nuit? (Ooops if I am totally wrong!!) Have you tried Majda Bekkali’s Sacree-Elle? When I go on Frangrantica, all I see is Fusion Sacree for for her–maybe it is the same thing?
If this is completely random, just ignore!!
Yes, you are entirely correct, OF! Sadly I wore Tendre Est La Nuit last December before becoming quite ill and spending two days in the hospital. I haven’t been able to face it since 🙁 . Haven’t tried Sacree-Elle.
That is really too bad.. I have the same problem with Fracas—when someone else was sick I used it to perk myself up.
But at least the Bekkali bottle is beautiful to look at…even if you don’t fancy the scent any more.
Arguably the most beautiful bottle I own!
I like how you are turning it into a week long theme of gratitude. Looking forward to seeing what you wear each day.
I underdressed this am and just can’t shake this chill. Brrrrrrr! Dealing with a bit of a mess at work and feeling like I have to play the diplomatic middle man because of someone else’s error. I’m a wee bit stressed this am and have compensated with too much coffee. Fortified with Lubin Korrigan layered with a spritz of Tauer LADDM. They compliment each other nicely, and the Lubin adds a bit of sweetness to the drier Tauer.
You smell damn good though!
Thanks! Did you make it to Scent Bar yet? Looking forward to the full report!
Nope. Not yet. We’re heading to LA on Wed. and I think my visit to Scent Bar will be on Friday. I promise to report!
Short week, huzzah! Am so lucky.
Rather cold this morning; 29F (-2C) when I woke up. Am wearing an impromptu black suit with a heavy cotton sateen blouse and short black boots with heel- and warm merino wool trouser socks! Over all that is a big cocoon, which when zipped up, makes you look like a Muppet. But it’s warm and cozy!
And course, to go with the cold snap this morning – a application of Tom Ford’s Noir body lotion after a quick warming shower(With TBS Smoky Poppy). The lotion is more amber-y, more spicy than the perfume itself. You only need a little bit- the lotion is very, very rich and scent is generous. Very cozy indeed.
The outfit sounds great – and a fun match with the perfume. There is a huge appeal to a Muppet cocoon when it’s cold I find!
I guess I will celebrate the whole week of fragrances that I am grateful and thankful for. My SOTD is Dark Amber & Ginger Lily by Jo Malone. Jo Malone is the perfumer that caused me to fall down the rabbit hole.
I’m wearing Illuminum Tomato Leaf today.
We have major plumbing problems in our house, and have not had running water for almost a week, due to broken pipes. Right now, we have a 20-foot tunnel dug under our home trying to fix the problem. It’s amazing how much we take the modern conveniences for granted, like running water.
Oh fingers crossed it gets sorted really quickly – and yes it is amazing how we take so much for granted until it’s suddenly not working.
Thank you. I just walked outside, and the plumbers said they are almost finished. My fingers are crossed also.
Not to be maudlin, but we have a lot of modern advantages to be thankful for – and take advantage of. 🙂 Hope all is in order in time for you to enjoy Thanksgiving.
I’m wearing Chypre Palatin and loving it. It’s a good thing the bottles are so expensive, else I might never finish my sample.
Oh, I forgot that one while chosing my week’s worth of gratitude scents. So beautiful, and the sample sizes from the discovery set (is it still available?) are quite generous, 10 ml. I think.
I think the discovery set should still be available. I can’t remember when I ordered it, but sometime this year. And the samples are very generous.
Biaser Vole Lys Rose cause I’m sitting in bed eating breakfast …. A bowl of strawberries with yoghurt ( I got sidetracked in the supermarket yesterday hence the breakfast swerve ). I think this is the first time I’ve managed to match my breakfast to my perfume so feeling proud. It’s been warm here for one whole day – that’s probably it for summer now. The Lys Rose sample was given to me by the assistant who sold me Cristalle. Tomorrow I will try a Cristalle breakfast match so I’m guessing it will be another oat free start to the day.
I’ve never thought to match perfume to what I’m eating. That’s a cheerful activity that I think I will pick up.
You just put a big smile on my face. I have a wonderful picture in my mind of soft downy pillows, A light layer of blankets, and a big bowl of berries and creamy yoghurt… an open window and hint of lily scent in the air. Breakfast of champions~
I suspect if I went back to bed with breakfast it would extend my morning way past…..well, actual morning. Sounds lovely.
Good morning, all. Have you ever gone through a situation/meeting/encounter when it becomes obvious that not only is the lunacy loose and running free, but before it set off, it had time to produce litters of lime green babies that are already getting up to No Good At All? Yesterday was just such a day for me. It was so awful that I’ve been wondering if I can just opt out of the rest of my life…the dear man says not. So. I can face today two ways: black skirt, white shirt, red belt, red boots, and Number 19, or my favourite jeans, washed and worn so much they’re soft and losing their colour, sneakers and Number 19. I’m leaning towards the jeans, the sartorial equivalent of lifting the middle finger skywards. The dear one says the skirt, and to sock it to ’em with a big, girly perfume, not 19. The truth is, I’m so fed up, I don’t much care. I know I’m in my 60s and all, but right now, I could really do with talking to my father!
Bof… What a waste of your time and talent. Sounds like you should give the oarsome, ossum, design experience team the slip. Chin up.
Yep. I’m out. Not only does it all do violence to my inner Waterdragon, I’m acutely aware that inasmuch as I think they’re light-weight and engaged in dumbing education down, I’m also exactly the wrong person for them. I can’t suspend my critical faculties and enter their communal fantasy for this new degree. I’ll delegate to someone younger and less, ummm, hardened into a single shape than I am.
I cat stand people like that. Just because they think it’s right doesn’t mean it’s not stupid. Sounds like my office.
Definitely opposed to anything that does violence to your inner Waterdragon, as well as anything that makes you want to opt out of life. Hope the 19 (if you ultimately chose it) made it better and that you can leave the foolishness behind soon.
Having a similar experience at work at the moment – how can these people not see that what they are doing can’t work! Then I wonder if it’s just me, then I take, knowing to someone else who agrees with me and I feel better.
Waterdragon, I don’t think it’s you or your age 🙂
It always seems like skill, experience, knowledge and intelligent questioning is sidelined in favour of novelty.
Gaynor, Kanuka, you comfort me! But this really is a case of a brave new world that I am entirely unfit to enter! Good thing I don’t want to and — probably — won’t have to.
I’m wearing my jeans–turn purple, O think tank, this is me not giving a damn!
That is sweet, talking to your father, and I know exactly how you feel. The years don’t dull our fondness. And I empathize with your work situation as well. I know I would have gone with the jeans, too, lacking respect for the big dogs. Here’s hoping for brighter tomorrows.
I do realize that the situation isn’t funny at all and I do sympathize, but ‘litters of lime green babies’ made me laugh very hard.
I don’t know why I think of lunacy as being lime green, but I do, and I think a little lunacy would be neon-bright until it gets its adult coat…plumage? I can’t quite see if lunacies have feathers or fur. The best ones probably have both. I do know this: lunacies lay eggs in dark corners and cupboards and when the babies hatch, they end up EVERYWHERE.
I’m beginning to laugh about it all, and I know it’s a small problem compared with what the rest of the world is facing.
Was loving the lime green babies too. I may start a list of Waterdragonisms and try to add them to my own conversational repetoire.
One of the contributing writers to More magazine dubbed women’s 50s “the F-U 50s” to describe our sudden inability to listen to BS and not call it exactly that. (Patricia 3-names…forgive me, Patricia). I was there so suddenly it took me and all I know by surprise. Sounds like you are too, Waterdragon. Enjoy it.
(And Kanuka, I’m sitting in bed eating dinner. I hope you’re happy.)
Dinner in bed! Ratbag!
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
I am joining Farouche in an exercise of thanksgiving. I was running late this morning but managed to spritz on No.19. I am thankful that I have at least one fragrance that works in any weather and any venue!
You smell fantastic 🙂
Yes, thank everything for 19! Lifesaver perfume that, as you say, works everywhere and everywhen. Especially, it’s working its magic for me today!
I’m testing Poivre Piquant… don’t see adding this to my wish list of FBs, but I am enjoying it (part of the problem is that I love the initial blast, but it fades to something not nearly so interesting fairly quickly). What I now know is, hands down, my favorite perfumer is Bertrand Duchaufour… I love many others of course, but I am consistently interested in or deeply enamored of his perfumes. It is like he has me in mind when he dreams up a scent–okay, that is not only really narcissistic, but kinda weird–but you know what I mean.
Do you like his work across all the perfume houses ( thinking CdeG ) or more his L’Artisan scents? I saw that NozCoz mentioned him too. Which of his scents do you wear the most often?
I do–some of them more, some less… but I’d wear all of these (and there are loads of others I’ve not sniffed):
Ann Gerard Rose Cut
C d G 3, Incense: Avignon
C d G 3, Incense: Kyoto
L’Artisan Dzongkha
L’Artisan Mure et Musc Extrait
L’Artisan Noir Exquis
L’Artisan Nuit de Tubéreuse
L’Artisan Patchouli Patch
L’Artisan Poivre Piquant
L’Artisan Rose Privée
L’Artisan Séville à l’Aube
L’Artisan Timbuktu
L’Artisan Traversée du Bosphore
Neela Vermeire Créations Bombay Bling
Neela Vermeire Créations Mohur
Neela Vermeire Créations Pichola
Neela Vermeire Créations Trayee
Penhaligon’s Amaranthine
Penhaligon’s Ostara
Penhaligon’s Sartorial
Penhaligon’s Vaara
Oops– most often?
Timbuktu
Dzongkha
Kyoto
Mohur
Trayee
Ostara
Thank you! I have only ever tried the CdeG and L’Artisan. I like how it says he plays with shadows…that’s nice, eh? Like beautiful charcoal drawings or etchings.
His perfumes strike a chord with me too, but every now and again, I think that he isn’t doing anything significantly different from what he’s done before. That little element of predictability, though, might be one of the reasons I like his work so mch.
I did NOT think of that, but you may be absolutely right!
I’m probably not right. Perhaps I’m recognising a certain signature style, but the perfumes themselves aren’t similar.
I’m thinking A La Nuit for today – it’s going to be a day of trials and tribulations, I could go for something more bracing, but I’ve decided to go the other way, and go for flowers 🙂
Yes! Drown the trials and tribulations in jasmine.
With you 100%! Face down trials with a powerhouse jasmine! You smell wonderful!
L’temps d’une fete for me today, iv’e really enjoyed it’s goldeness, on a cold, crisp and bright day.
You smell lovely!
😀
Wearing Oriental Lounge, which is light but sultry if you come right up to it and sniff.
I’ve been wearing DSH’s Ashram while making cranberry sauce. I like Ashram more each time I wear it, and I hope I can rustle up some more.
I’m wearing Vanille 44 today as I dash around getting ready for a flight to Phoenix for Thanksgiving. It’s been so long since I needed sunglasses here I can’t remember where I put them, but I need to find them! It’s sunny and 70F there.
Le Labo Rose 31, perfume oil version. No dreaded Iso E. Super buzz (very apparent in the edp)….just fantastic spicy rose.
I’m wearing a wee bit of Rose of No Man’s Land, and a whole lot of baby spit up! A day to lay low, I think…
I just tried some of this at Aedes (the RoNML, not the spit up) and am loving it. What do you think?
I really like it! For some reason I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but it’s so lovely and tart and juicy, and really, there’s no law that says I can’t add yet another rose to my collection…
Can’t recommend the spit up, though. 😉
In Iris Nazarena. I need to give this one a few more spins. But now I’m curious about the Iris Cendre 🙂
I love (and now own) both, great fragrances – different enough, in my opinion, athough both in the ‘modern elegance’ category.
Posting late today, but I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s comments. You all smell wonderful! I am wearing Seville a L’Aube. Add me to the roster of Duchaufour devotees!
Wearing Flowerbomb today, because I wanted to smell pretty. If anyone here besides me likes it, I would like to put in a good word for the body cream.
Like Luna, I am posting late today. Busy day of sitting around in a room full of people while a glorious weather day went totally to waste, in my opinion. So thankful for the cool breeze, and like a few posters mentioned above, I am also doing a week of Thanks Giving.
So, while I wasn’t able to fully enjoy the weather, I am thankful for an all too brief respite from the heat and humidity. And thankful as well for Chergui 🙂
Love reading these comments! Worked until 3am on a term paper (kinda a badge of honor when you’re 20. When you’re 40-something, a little less so- & a lot less pretty on the face:P). So this morning, bleary-eyed and grumpy, I reached for comfort via Chanel Allure edp. Linked forever to some of the happiest memories I carry. Present yet soft and it accompanies through the day.
Then I came home from work and went willy-nilly, spritzed a few drops of ’09 TM Angel Liquer de Parfum, let it settle for 5 and then topped with a ’94 Dior Dune. Airy, bittersweet chocolate heaven. Time for good sleep. 🙂
Sweet dreams. Sounds like you deserve a good night’s sleep.
Aw, thank you Petunia! : )
What a good idea, I should be dating my bottles as I get them.
(( 😀 )) Giggle.
Had an incredibly busy day at work but L’air de Desert stayed with me all day. I’ so happy that I bought this one.
Very late here. Wearing Eau Savage Parfum, warm with lots of myrrh. And got me also (thanks, Farouche) celebrating the scents I’m thankful to have. (Though I’d really need more than a week!)
Mobility challenged, I grabbed the first thing that caught my eye in my sample case–le labo santal, which has lasted a good 6+ hours. What scents encourage bone healing? :-p
I have a friend in France who is curious about the best places online to get samples and decants in Europe. Being in the US myself, I don’t know the answer and I figured this would be the perfect place to ask 🙂 Thank you in advance, everyone!
yukiej, if you ask again on Tuesday’s Scent of the Day post earlier in the day, more people will see your question and respond. I’m in the U.S., so I can’t say I know the best source for France, but I have occasionally ordered samples from Europe for perfumes not yet released here. First in Fragrance has a wide selection, and customer service is great. I have also ordered from websites of individual niche companies, such as Ys-Uzac (Switzerland), Maria Candida Gentile (Italy), and La Via del Profumo (Italy), with good results. I’m sure others will have more ideas, too.
Thanks nozknoz! I will pass on your recommendations and also repost tomorrow 🙂
