It's Enabler Pin Friday! Our community project for today: bestow a pin on someone who convinced you that you just had to try (or buy) a fragrance. And of course, wear the fragrance!
What fragrance did you choose? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Pumpkins yesterday, carrots today — I am awarding an enabler pin to Karin, who way back in 2011 alerted me to the fact that there was a fantastic markdown on Honoré des Prés I Love Les Carottes at SpaceNK. My favorite kind of enabling is that which gets you a bottle of great perfume for less than $25.
Reminder: next week we're doing Cheap Thrill Friday...as we head into the holiday spending period, wear a fragrance that would not break the bank even in a full size. (suggested by Bardot)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’d have to give my first enabler pin to my hubs who gave in when I plead and begged and groveled for a bottle of Coromandel. And I give big handfuls of pins to you fine fairies in Perfumeland who constantly remind me of what else is out there that I must try, and that it’s ok to have (and spend $$ on) more than one true love. So here’s one for you and you and you and you and…
Nice 🙂
Happy Enabler Pin Day! I bestow my pin on AnnE. In May she sent me some items in the freebie meet, and generously tossed in a few samples including one of Moss Gown.
At that time my perfume habit had died way down – I still wore my favorite scents, but I was in grad school and really focused on that, and also broke and living in Iowa, i.e. not exactly next door to Aedes, so the freebie meets were really my only way of getting anything new to smell. (Thanks to all of you who participated during that time!!)
Anyway there was something about that Moss Gown that really sent me right back down the rabbit hole. It smelled totally new and reawakened that part of me that is always saying, “There might be some amazing smell you haven’t discovered yet!” Lucky coincidence that it happened right as I was graduating, because since then I have been having the most wonderful time attending estate sales, chasing down decants, and I even participated in my first swapmeet. A bonus side effect of all this is that my new job is really stressful, and this hobby provides a daily beauty that is a huge help and always gives me something to look forward to at the end of the day. I really do think my renewed interest is in large part due to that one sample of Moss Gown, so thank you, AnnE!
This calls for a special, Cartier manufactured enabler pin!
Enabler tiara…
There might be a pin on the way for you, too, after that description of Moss Gown…
I agree!
Aw, that was so sweet of you, Regina! I feel like I’ve hit the swapper jackpot, hearing this. ☺️
It was just one of those things, right? I found my HG in an assortment of extra samples sent in a swap, too. This was when I was first falling down the rabbit hole and had never heard of Vol de Nuit. You never know.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
One of the community projects about “slow burn” inspired me to try Shalimar perfume. I’ve always loved one of the flankers, but never really gave the real thing a shot.
That was a great enabling thread!
I agree!
Jour de Fête, and the pin goes to Ari. Totally agree with her review: oh so pretty, but the lack of projection and staying power is somewhat dismaying.
They need to do an intense version.
Oh! I am so thrilled to have made this world smell a little more strongly of Jour de Fete!
I sure bath in it whenever I wear it…
I’m awarding an enabler pin to Abigail, who used to blog regularly at I Smell Therefore I Am. She’s still running The Posh Peasant decant service, but I wish she’d post occasionally – I miss her writing.
SOTD is Mariella Burani, which she talked me into very handily. I found a big bottle, barely used, on ebay, for $21, and have enjoyed it enormously.
Hi Mals!
It’s me, Abigail! And I am blushing at your kind words. Thank you so much. I feel honored.
Mariella Burani is still among my top favorites and I have at least 2 back-up bottles. I only wish MB was still easily found for cheap, because these days it’s mostly on ebay for very high prices now that people know it’s it’s rare stuff.
I forgot about today’s enabler pin. I’d definitely have to give it to Brian, my fellow blogger at ISTIA, (we both hardly (or never) write anymore for various life reasons). The list of fragrances Brian encouraged me to try was endless. One in particular was Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant, which through several years of perseverance I finally loved. And he also was the person, who discovered one of my top 5 faves, while traveling in Italy, and encouraged me to try: Profumi del Forte Roma Imperiale, which I could probably wear almost every day for the rest of my life and be happy.
SOTD: Diptyque IE Mimosa. I got a 30 ml split and it’s nearly gone. It goes fast since I need to apply at least 10 sprays, but it’s a pretty and delicate mimosa.
HI ABIGAIL!!
Totally understand that Life Stuff… but I do miss your writing. And Brian’s. (He knows. I’ve probably told him six times. But he’s doing his film thing and I’m very proud of that.)
It’s such fun to discover a blogger with whom you share preferences – you and Donna at PST are the ones I overlap with most frequently, I think. So thanks for the Mariella Burani, and enjoy that well-deserved enabler pin.
My enabler pin goes to NST’s own Angela, whose review of Diorella sent me straight off to the interwebs in search of the vintage formulation. Two sprays this morning – one distributed among wrists and neck, and a tiny one to the upper abdomen – and I’m in a divine cloud of leather chypre. My tiny decant is of the EDC strength, in case anyone is wondering. And like lizbee, I can’t even count the others here who have inspired me to try things I would never have discovered otherwise, so thank you all!
Diorella is great stuff 🙂
Hurray! I get a pin! I wonder if you mean Diorling, though.
Good grief – I DID mean Diorling! And I’m wearing it today which (at least theoretically) means I looked at a label and STILL managed to type it wrong. I blame morning! Thank you for the correction, AND for steering me to Diorling – it’s a wonder!
I have to give out 2 enabler pins. 1 to Musette from Perfumed Posse, whose writing makes me laugh and recently sent me samples , one was Lumiere Blanc, my SOTD. It’s soft, cozy suede-like woody , slightly spicy and appropriate for casual Friday in the office, I would not say it is a very dressed up scent, but you could wear it to church. #2 goes to Mals86….I read your blog and comments, and have tried so many you have recommended…Thanks.
Musette is awesome, isn’t she? I love her.
And I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed some I did! Thanks.
I bestow an enabler pin on mals, whose descriptions of Tabac Aurea, Mary Greenwell Plum, Le Temps d’une Fete, Champagne de Bois, and Parfum Sacre resulted in full bottle purchases. It’s funny, because mals and I aren’t even scent twins. I like Youth Dew, whereas mals – well, I’ll let mals tell you what she thinks of it. But where our interests intersect, I follow her advice. 😉
Honorable mention to Robin, whose review of Assam of India inspired me to buy a bottle based on the bottle itself! Fortunately the juice is great, too.
And I want to add that this topic was originally suggested as “Mals Made Me Do It” — I thought I’d make it more general but we’ll see if she takes most of the pins today 🙂
Ha…and just noticed she has another just above!
That would have been hilarious! I suggest we all adopt a new acronym: MMMDI. 🙂
Well I really have SO many to pick from (as Eleebelle mentioned–basically all my fragrances count!) but to mix it up, and because I’m in the mood for a chypre, today’s SOTD is an enabler pin for Merlin, who sold me on Soir de Lune with the description that it was “sophisticated, but with a laid back glamour – a billionaire on holiday.” Maybe it should be an enabler diamond tennis bracelet to go with?! 🙂
Oops that was meant to be its own comment!! I’ll try again below. Meanwhile, I’m completely with you on this proposed initialism!!
HA! Too real!
Pinning another on Mals for Citizen Queen!
I’m not wearing anything at the moment (somehow “commando” brings to mind no panties, despite its expressiveness, tee hee). But I want to say that in this year or so of the journey, Victoria and Robin gave me the nourishment , Gaia gave a lot too and was very often the tie-breaker on unsniffed buys. More importantly, perhaps, MALS and Kafka were those who more often talked me out of some those buys!!
Re: Serge – MMMNDI. Didn’t work for too long, in truth, but still, delayed purchases are sometimes better.
Yep. I bought Assam for the bottle as well… I’m not proud of that, but it is what is. A very fun bottle!
I bought Mary Greenwell Plum unsniffed after noticing that mals was wearing it every other day, at least! It’s still one of my favs and go-tos for versatility.
I forgot about the theme today. it’s humid and warm, so I put on the last of my Vetiver Fatal.
I thought about it though and my enabler pin goes to hajusuuri. She generously sent me lots of extra samples from the freebie meet last year and Kalemat was in that batch. I’ve used up the sample she gave me, but I am now on the hunt for that gorgeous fragrance. It’s absolutely divine and a wonderful autumn/winter fragrance.
Love Kalemat! I found it offered by the middle eastern company on eBay at a very reasonable price, especially when you consider the quality and quantity of the scent. It arrived in about a week and a half and the seller was very helpful and responsive when assisting me w/ tracking. You smell gorgeous 🙂
:-). Happy to enable!
Dear Jenkr, I wanted to add my belated good wishes to all the others from yesterday: may everything be awesome! Also, as a very belated gift, I have finally posted my little package to you. I’m so sorry it took so long: first I could not find the Misia sample, then I had misplaced my Osmanthe Yunnan and when I had all the stuff together, it was simply impossible to get to the post office. I hope it arrives safely and you find something to enjoy. Hugs!
Thank you so much!
I’m very much looking forward to the package! That’s so incredibly kind and generous of you 🙂
I could bestow enabler pins on many, many of you. I buy so much based on the comments and reviews posted on NST. However, I do tend to be cautious enough to buy mostly decants and minis. The only time that I can remember buying a full bottle was when I bought a full bottle of Krazy Krizia based on comments about it that one of our posters wrote. I’ve been in love ever since. I will also say that it meets many of of the recent Friday community project themes. Next week will be another Krazy Krizia moment, because I got my new, full-sized bottle for about what I’d pay for a mini.
Krazy is in my Amazon cart…
I bestow an enabler pin on the lovely Hasujuuri, who sent me a generous little sample of Mohur extrait in the very first batch of samples I got from anyone when I became a regular visitor here, and I have been lusting after it (and that red bottle) ever since! I recently participated in a split of Mohur extrait and the other people say they are happy with their decants, and I am very happy to have the wonderful bottle of this fabulous perfume in the place of pride in my collection.
I am not wearing ME today, since I wore it earlier in the week. Today I have on Boucheron, and I am noticing the LOTV in it much more that I have previously. This is a sneakily great perfume, that I bought on impulse when I saw a good deal, and after languishing in the “we’ll see about this” drawer for a while, it has now entered my regular rotation.
Right now, I believe I would be perfectly happy with a three day rotation of Mohur Extrait, Iris Poudre, and Boucheron. With Rose Musc and something with some incense for the weekends….and Seville a l’Aube when I just need something sunshiny…and LADDM for when I just need to be reminded of the desert…ok, so a three bottle rotation would never work! LOL!
You might get a pin for Mohur extrait eventually…. 🙂
🙂
Ha! I am wearing the same exact enabler pin. Hajusuuri also generously gave me a sample of Mohur Extrait at dinner with a bunch of other lovely perfume gals in NYC. I fell in love with it and joined your very well executed split!
In fact the majority of my enabler pins probably go to Hajusuuri.
I think we need to get her one big fat pin so she can wear it proudly for years to come.
Oh, and I’m also very happily wearing Mohur Extrait today.
Too funny and glad you were able to participate in meredifay’s split!
Thank you for the kind words about the split! I think it did go well for everyone concerned, and I have confidence to do another when the right bottle and juice come along…
I don’t know if you were going to hug me or hate me for enabling you on perfume with the price of gold 🙂
Yes if someone had said to me the day before I read this blog for the first time, “A little while from now you will have a bottle of perfume sitting on your dresser that cost more than the first car you ever owned” I would have laughed ’til I fell down! (The car was a very used baby blue 1959 Rambler, in case anyone cares…) But the perfume is lovely, so definitely a big hug to you!
Yay!
There have been many on NST and the Perfume Posse that have enabled me to try and buy many things. But today is the day I really have to go to the dentist and I am dreading it because I need lots of work done. So it’s the cleaning and seeing what really needs to be done. So I won’t be participating in the community project today. I’m figuring out if I should go commando and wear Sarrasins afterwards or something that I am not so attached to. Prada Infusion d”Iris comes to mind for this.
All the best to you Dawn. Dental work can be so harrowing, I hope all goes well for you today.
Good luck today at the dentist.
I feel your pain! 3 cheers for Lidocaine! There’s a lot to be said for being “comfortably numb” ????
I once wore Infusion d’Iris to a dentist appointment – it was so successful, it’s now my Official Dentist Fragrance.
Good luck, hope it goes better than you’re expecting!
Hope it’s not too painful, especially in the wallet which takes longer to heal 😉
This was a difficult one, as most of my perfume buys are inspired by NST and NSTers in some way. Often it’s also not one, but many persons whose cumulative comments have made me try or buy something. In the end I decided to go with the first one I remember (not my first NST-enabled buy, but one that I considered since the very start of my NST career) and where there is absolutely no doubt as to the identity of the enabler.
Diorissimo for Robin.
Oh, thank you, and thanks to Edmond Roudnitska 🙂
Long time no comment, too tired and nauseous to think much of perfume, and other life events happening that are sucking up energies!
Enabler pin 1 goes to Anniky for Fleurs de Chine, not wearing it because of nausea.
Enabler pin 2 goes to Austenfan, for Songes EDP and I love les Carottes (which I haven’t bought yet, but will), both of which I am not wearing for the same reason.
Enabler pin 3 goes to Kafkaesque for her review on Hiram Green’s Voyage, and against olfactory principles I bought blindly, and which I am wearing because it is nausea proof! It is such a soft, gorgeous, calming, uplifting scent. Truely wonderful. Vaguely reminiscent of The Jungle Elephant, but in the lightest possible way.
Wishing you all a good weekend!
I hope you feel better soon! I feel for you as I spent the last 2 weeks queasy with a perfume and food aversion. Glad you found something you can wear and enjoy.
🙂
Oh, I’m so glad and flattered! Thank you, I’ll wear the pin with pride. And I truly hope you feel better soon, sending hugs.
Thank you Anniky! Hugs help.
Aaargh! I really really hope you feel better soon. Wishing you lots of fresh air and sunshine, and hopefully an understanding four-legged creature curled up at a respectful distance to keep you company.
Thank you Oakland Francesca, and one of my fourleggeds is doing exactly that right now! The other one is less understanding and still starts to throw things at me early morning to convince me to serve his breakfast. But he knows he is getting away with it….
PS, needless to say I love Fleurs de Chine (thank you Anniky!), Songes EDP and the Carottes (thank you Austenfan), but they have to wait for my better times.
Hope those better times arrive soon, or at least the time seems to fly by.
Thank yo Siciliana, very good wishes!
You are most welcome. I hope your stomach starts behaving itself. I didn’t know feeling queasy was part of an EBV infection, but apparently it is. Such a nuisance, you must be so fed up.
Have you tried the other Hiram Greens?
I am indeed very fed up, but counting my blessings most of the time, it could be so much worse. EBV is hard on the liver, that is maybe how I end up feeling queasy (metoclopramide doesn’t give any relief funnily enough, it does when I have migraine nausea) I always see Pfeiffer qualified as an MDL disease, so it may effect the stomach as well :-(.
Samples of Moon Bloom and Shangri La were included and I am looking very much forward to trying them once I am somewhat better, I need to be well anchored for both serious chypres and tuberose ;-)! Have you tried any of them?
And ofcourse…happy to have a go at an enabler pin in the future, so if you wish for a sample of Voyage let me know! It is a limited edition apparently, so I hope it will stay available for some time.
Hard to choose just one, so many enablers here 🙂
I am happy to go with 31 Rue Cambon today with many thanks to floragal who unexpectedly and incredibly generously sent me a super-sized decant. I think it was the “talk me off the ledge” poll. I really am touched by the generosity that happens here.
Yay! I got a pin 😉
I am absolutely delighted that you are enjoying this gorgeous scent.
I have to give a big pin to AnnS for sending me a generous decant of Box of Eels when we did a swap. Total, head over heels instant love for me! I have not yet purchased a bottle since I’m still working off the decant, but have no doubt I will be purchasing a FB before the end of the year. When I wear BoE I feel all grown-up, sophisticated, and graceful. Thanks, AnnS, for making me feel all kinds of cultured and confident down here in the swamps!
SOTD is of course Box of Eels- so DIVINE!
And I forgot to add that in this same package, bursting at the seams with samples, was Ninfeo Mio. I finished the sample and promptly bought a FB. It’s the perfect Swamp Scent! So, AnnS, you get a Twin Pin!! Thanks so much ????
Like Annikky and others have said, most of my trials and buys were inspired buy other’s comments here and bloggers’ reviews.
But my SOTD is ELDO Rossy de Palma and the enabler pin would go to Victoria of BdJ for her review of that one which made me seek it out promptly, although it took me a while to buy it. I’ve sampled many roses since then, but this is one of my absolute favorites.
Her reviews are beautiful and always make me want to buy anything that gets 4+ stars.
Victoria is my other main enabler in addition to NST. Our tastes overlap to a very large extent, so I always sample things she likes.
Annikky, have you ever met up with her as she is in Brussels as well?
Yes, I have. She is lovely.
I have bought many, many bottles of perfumes based on online reviews and/or comments, but I chose to wear Lanvin Arpege EDP today. I bought this blind (for a very good price – Arpege would also work next Friday) after reading Angela’s review here on NST. Its in a beautiful black bottle, no idea of the vintage, but it smells great!
Speaking of top enablers, Angela probably has a wardrobe of tiaras!
In my dreams–I mean, seriously, I dream about wardrobes of tiaras!
Great to hear when blind buys work out!
Now that I think of it, I think she may share some responsibility for my purchase of Arpege current and vintage extrait. I love the current version (in the black bottle)! You smell great!
A friend in Montreal had a set of Aqua Allegoria minis and offered me whichever one I liked best. Somewhat to my surprise, it turned out to be the Ylang & Vanille. Later I ended up with a full bottle from a swapmeet, and it’s usually a bedtime scent, but I have a spritz on today.
I forgot to wear the right scent — I’m in PHI Une Rose de Kandahar — but should also be wearing my deliciously cheap I Love les Carottes, and giving a pin to Karin as well as to ScentScelf, who muled it for me.
You smell fantastic anyway!
Today is Neela Vermeire Mohur. My enabler is Kafkaesque (and really the whole perfume blogger community!), without whom I never would have know this gorgeous perfume existed.
My husband and I just landed in Raleigh, NC for a weekend of house hunting. After nearly a decade in Chicago, we sold our condo and are moving back home before our baby is born. I’m excited!
Hope you find the perfect place for the next exciting chapter of your life- sounds fun!!
Thank you!
Congratulations! I, too, moved home when I had children (my oldest was 6 months) and I’m so glad I did – its been almost 18 years now of family gatherings for birthdays, soccer games, etc.
Good to hear. That’s what I’m looking forward to.
I recently moved to Wake Forest. Welcome home, and best wishes on your little one.
Wake Forest is a nice area!
My SOTD is Marni, and my enablers are Robin (for writing such a nice review) and Saks beauty week (for giving me a sample). I ended buying a full bottle day after I received the sample.
It is so pretty and easy to love!
Ah, that one’s worth a pin, thank you!
I love marni too, such a lovely perfume for autumn!
A pin for Unseen Censer- I try anything she writes about. Wearing Musc Ravageur, on which I did not need any enabling!
Ha! And she disenabled me when we chanced upon each other at Bendel’s although I ended up enabling her with an oud-less SoOud extrait 🙂
Pretty much everything I bought during my first year as a perfumista was a blind buy inspired by someone raving about a perfume, so pins go to many, many forgotten enablers. All my Serge Lutens, Malles, and Comme des Garcons are due to you. For more recent pins, Pixel swapped me a big bottle of the C&E Sandalwood I wore earlier this week, and sent a sample of Habanita that had me buying a full bottle immediately. In addition, waterdragon talked about her love of Black Cashmere. I had been on the fence about it, tried to fill a split but couldn’t, and finally caved last week and bought a bottle. That’s what I’m wearing today.
Oooh, I have a pin? Exciting! It’s like getting an A on an assignment!
Hi foxbins, i too am sold on buying a bottle of Black cashmere, looking out for good deal on ebay- did u get the old pebble bottle, or the new one?, is there much difference?, Thanx!
I bought the new one. I had gotten a sample in a swap and I have no idea whether it was the new or old. It smells really good!
Is it weird that most of my purchasing and sampling seems to have stemmed from enabling in some way? I’m wearing Van-ile, which it’s was entirely enabled by Kafkaesque’s review.
I’m also wearing Shalimar Souffle de Parfum on the other wrist to compare, because when I sampled it last night, I couldn’t help but to think of the citrusy muskiness of Van-ile. They’re definitely not the same, but to Souffle’s credit–which it so rarely seems to get–my SO liked it better of the two.
Shalimar Souffle doesn’t get a lot of credit-but if I separate the fact this its not Shalimar, and just enjoy it for what it is, I seem to like it much better.
My enabler pin really ought to go to both Robin of NST and to Victoria of Bois de Jasmin. Most of my buys were inspired by their reviews. And perhaps to the 2 authors of Perfumes the Guide who persuaded me to explore more of mainstream perfumery and who helped point me towards the glories of Parfums de Nicolaï.
However I’m wearing Heure Exquise today. Both the Eau de Parfum and the dry oil (discontinued). And my enabler pin goes to AnnS., who kept mentioning how much she loved it and giving enough of an explanation to encourage me to blind buy it. Possibly my most successful blind buy. I distinctly remember going weak at the knees on first inhale and still love it to bits today. So Thank You Ann!
You should get several from me, including one for No 22 extrait 🙂 Plus a host of tea-pins!
Now that No.22 recommendation is in a class of it’s own!
A pin to Hajusuuri who literally enabled me to purchase Sideris by putting it on her card during the Henri Bendel clearance sale last year when I was having financial trouble (I’d spent my reserves to dash off to be with a dying friend). I appreciated the loan but even more, I appreciate Hajusuuri contacting me about doing a live sniff which has enabled me to have live perfume friends–ihadanidea, leather mountain, floragal, missionista, lizzieb, dancerwendy, nebbe, squirrelly, and hemlock sillage. Cheers!
That experience was such a gift, and it was so wonderful to meet you both. You are definitely missed here, Goddess, but I’m glad you’re not too far away! Next time I promise not to be sick when you visit.
I actually didn’t know that detail of last year’s Bendel experience, but it doesn’t surprise me in the least. Hajusuuri’s generosity is on display each time we meet, and I have no doubt everyone else would say the same.
Also, if you want to smell Sideris, smell it on TheGoddessRena, because it is woooonderful.
You probably remembered the drama at the Krigler boutique :-). Our first meeting, no less!
What a lovely story! That’s very Hajusuuri- I am not at all surprised.
Wonderful enabling story and I always appreciate a good use of the word “literal”. 🙂 And, I want to do a live sniff! Wonder if we could do some kind of poll along those lines – people could volunteer to coordinate for their cities, and others could contact them to join, or something like that? I just moved to Atlanta and would love to meet fellow perfume lovers here!
Keep throwing it out there and don’t forget to post a way for people to contact you
Brilliant idea, would love to do something with any U.K sniffer’s out there!
*waves to GoddessRena*
It’s fun to sniff stuff with you!
I love this story.
Highly recommended the live sniff idea, it’s been so much fun to get to meet and know other perfume lovers nearby.
We miss you in these here parts, goddessrena! You will always be on the email distribution since you are a bus or train ride away! (That sale was too good to pass up!)
Im pretty sure the majority of my acquisitions require enabler pins to be bestowed. Many to Victoria at BdJ, many here, many to the Posse. MMMDI gets her own for Plum and Silences too 😉
Today though I wore Blackberry & Bay, so pins to all of you who wear it and love it and talk about it here.
And tonight, as I told her earlier, Ihadanidea gets a pin for Natori, which Im wearing now.
Awww – yaaaay! I love bringing people together, and it seems I love bringing people and perfumes together too. Someday I hope we can go on a joint sniffing adventure, but in the meantime, do keep wearing that Natori and smelling fabulous.
Very good morning, all NST! In this inaugural annual Honours list, I want to make Angela a Knight of the Most Noble Order of Enablers, with star and garter. Angela’s reviews prompted me to try and quickly buy Jubilation25, Epic, Lyric Chanel 19 andnBill Blass Nude (unsniffed, and probably a host of others that my poor sleep-deprived brain can’t recall.
For services to enabling beyond all requirements of duty, arise Dame Angela.
Ha! Love this, and congratulations Dame Angela!
Angela’s post on estate sales gave me the courage to try one for the first time, so she gets a big ol’ pin from me too because now I am out there almost every weekend!
Aren’t they great? You never know what you’ll find at an estate sale. I love them.
A title! I’m super honored.
I think that properly speaking, you should be “Lady Angela”, but that’s too, you know, stuffy and classist. “Dame” is a better title: it has so many connotations. I love the accretions it’s picked up in American popular culture, and I decided I saw you as “Dame Angela”, and simultaneously also, “What a dame! Angela!”
I am wearing Le Labo Vanille 44, something that I heard a lot of positive comments on here. I can’t remember who all spoke of it and said they loved it, but I would have to give a pin to everyone who made these comments. I was definitely enabled and am thoroughly enjoying it today.
Probably Hajusuuri–she has a great love for that one
Hee, and I should wear it more often!
That was going to be my enabler pin as well, and definitely to Hajusuuri (H, you are getting a lot of pins today!), but in the end I went with Bulgari Black, which I think was also enabled by Hajusuuri. There is a vanilla trend happening here, for sure.
I remember strongly encouraging the SA to offer you a sample (I gave him one of the atomizers I carry around with me to foil the “we ran out of aromizers” excuse).
This must by one of my favourite sentence in the history of NST. I must start carrying around atomizers.
🙂
Stopping by for a second in the middle of several exciting job interviews and applications (woohoo!) to send love to everyone, but most notably to Ms. AnnS, who sent me a bit of L’arte di Gucci early this year and helped me fall in love. Thinking about it now, I want to edit the list of five desert island fragrances I mentioned to Perthie the other day and add this one. It is glorious, and so are you Ann! Thanks for being my rose buddy/enabler!
And a quick scan of the comments shows that I’m not the only one pinning AnnS today!
Good luck!
Thanks dear!
Good luck ihadanidea!, what field of work are u in?
(sorry for being so nosy (no pun intended, heehee)
You’re sounding very sparkly for usually nervewracking job interviews, so hopefully that means that they’re for great jobs AND you’re breezing through them!
I’m glad you realised 5 is impossible too 😉
Five is utterly impossible, and indeed, the very thought offends the perfume god who lives at the back of every perfume cabinet. Occasionally I find myself thinking The Sacrilegious Thought–“I must limit myself to five”– and the only way to make proper amends is to buy ANOTHER perfume….
I think it’s been scientifically proven that perfume bottles follow the ‘dog years’ formula….so everything gets multiplied by 7. Hence five bottles becomes 35 bottles. And that’s a fact!
Ah ha! This simple fact — thank you, by the way– allows a calculation that is much the most answering explanation I have of my collection! So, in reality, I have only ten bottles all up? Eggzellent: watch me dash off madly in all directions to buy Au The Bleu.
I’m not sure what it is, but 2015 has been a year of developing a confidence I never had before, and I’m loving it. Thanks so, so much for the encouragement!
Exciting job interviews are good! Happy for you.
Woo hoo on the interviews! And AnnS absolutely enabled me on Chanel No.19 in all its concentrations!
Another pin for Hajusuuri, who is incredibly generous. I’m sure I’ve bought several fragrances due to samples sent by her, but the one that stands out and that I’m wearing today is Guerlain Shanghai. Love it!
I have enabler pins for you too, farouche! A huge decant of Diptyque Volutes EDP initially came from you, then I bought a FB. And when we met up in Boston, you introduced me to My Inner Island!
🙂
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
Enabler pins go to SuzyQ and Undina. SuzyQ was my bery first swap partner when I participated in the September 2012 NST Swapmeet. I got a decant of Bvlgari Black on our 2nd swap in December. The decant sat inside my one lone Q-tip container which fit all of my decants (!), silently mocking me to try it already. It wasn’t until Undina wrote about the hockey puck bottle in the Spring of 2013 that prompted me to do so… and the rest is history. Bvlgari Black is one perfume I never want to be without. It is office safe and works in all weather!
My pin goes to Julia for Shalimar. I figured if someone could profess their love for a fragrance the way she did, it must be worth owning a giant bottle. I don’t reach for it often, but when I do it is enchanting.
And another hundred pins go to Daisy for pretty much every other bottle I own. She hasn’t been around here lately, but when she did post she was awfully convincing that perfume was a need. Or a birthright. 🙂
More or less all the fragrances i own, have been enabled by this wonderful community. Wearing Mitsouko today, a blind buy after reading victoria’s beautiful review, and my most recent buy was silver iris, inspired by Patricia’s lovely review over at BDJ.
I’m hoping (pleaaaase) that my lovely husband will get me Jubilation 25 for christmas, in which case, i give a big pin to Angela, in advance!
I’d just like to thank everyone for their reviews and comments on NST and so many other blogs that I read voraciously! All that reading means I have bought hundreds of small decants from TPC and StC, out of which I’ve found some things to die for (or least spend ludicrous amounts of money).
I’ve learnt not to dismiss anything too quickly on reading the notes, not to assume I’ll love something because others do. We all have our individual tastes and preferences and that’s part of what makes reading NST so wonderful 🙂
I’m naturally cautious and new to the hobby so I always make sure to reference multiple sources for opinions – which makes it difficult to give an enable pin to any one person. That said, I most often consult with the NST and BdJ blogs – so enabler pins to all the wonderful reviewers.
I’m currently trying Ambre Sultan for the first time and it is AMAZING. I don’t recall any specific blog reviews about it, but I do remember the glowing appreciation of NSTrs in one of the SOTD posts – so enabler pins to everyone! 🙂
AS is so gorgeous. One of those beloved classics that never disappoints.
As most everyone has already said, there are so many enablers that I have to give pins to everyone. I’m wearing Safran Troublant today, which is still a really strong like, but I definitely read about it here.
Ditto re: pins for all! And re: Saffron Troublant. Mmmmmm 🙂
Other favorite scents directly inspired by NST community: Natori, Bvlgari Black, Coco, Bronze Goddess (looking at you, Robin ♡)
Job well done, enabler friends! Pins and big thanks to all. 😀
Hello All! I don’t post comments but I visit the site everyday and enjoy the reviews and comments shared. However, today I had to comment as my Enabler Pin goes to Robin, who’s 2009 review of Van Cleef & Arpels Bois d’Iris sent me beelining to Neiman Marcus and where I surprised myself by happily and without hesitation plunking down $185 for a bottle! I never regretted it and enjoyed immensely each and every time I wore that scent. Ahh, it is awesome fragrance. Confession: I went on to enable a few others to purchase it as well ????.
Happy Friday All!
So glad you love it! I need to wear it more this winter.
I have a couple of enablers: Hajusuri, Kafka and you Robin. A lot of reviews that Robin and Kafka post allow me to narrow down and buy blind (and I have not had bad experience yet, fingers crossed). Hajusury has generously provided me quite a few samples and decants over time.
SOTD: Rania J Ambre Loup, bought after reading glowing review and recommendation from Kafka
Kafka writes such incredibly detailed reviews, it’s a huge help when you’re trying to figure out if you’ll like something.
I always paid close attention to Haunani’s comments, too, Clarissa, and I miss her on NST. I know there’s a Facebook group, but I don’t trust Facebook, although I was almost tempted to look for it in order to keep up with what Haunani and Daisy were wearing. 🙂
If it helps, nozknoz, Daisy is not on Facebook! Go on distrusting!
Trying again with this comment to say that I really have SO many to pick from (as Eleebelle mentioned–basically all my fragrances count!) but to mix it up, and because I’m in the mood for a chypre, today’s SOTD is an enabler pin for Merlin, who sold me on Soir de Lune with the description that it was “sophisticated, but with a laid back glamour – a billionaire on holiday.” Maybe it should be an enabler diamond tennis bracelet to go with?! 🙂
Gosh, you all have had a terrible influence on my wallet (I started to write “pocketbook,” tsk tsk tsk… times have changed)… I wish I could remember who tipped me over the FB precipice for Azemour, Dzongkha, Apres L’Ondee… and many more. The two enablers I can distinctly recall are Holly and Missionista… for Hanbury and Un Matin d’Orage respectively.
My SOTD is the much-maligned Elie Saab Le Parfum edp. It is unabashedly orange blossom and jasmine, with a drizzle of honey…I know, I know. I hear y’all groaning… Suum cuique pulchrum est!
I didn’t know that Elie Saab was so outré! I think you smell gorgeous.
Why thank you! (The EDP especially gets little love.)
I like this one! I don’t wear it much, but when I want an orange blossom-jammed popsicle, nothing else will scratch that itch.
Dare I say, grape popsicle? YES. From the rooftops, “I enjoy wearing grape popsicle!!!”
My nose is so weird. I like it, but for me it’s not sweet at all. I wish I got a smudge of honey.
Smidge. Stop it, autocorrect.
I also have to give enabler pins to NST as a whole–especially for Chanel. The general consensus love for Bois des Iles and Chanel #19 tipped me towards picking up samples of each when I saw them.
There’s a lot of enablers on here but off the top of my head the ones who’ve cost me the most money are Hajusuuri and Ari.
I guess I would have to stay away from Ari’s posts. Hajusuuri already has me hooked 🙂
You’re not so innocent, clarissa! Kafka may write super reviews but you buy them and swap / split! (hello Rania J. Ambre Loup, as an example)
Oh oh 🙂
Daisy is dangerous too.
VERY dangerous!
The DC area is experiencing “record challenging” warmth today, possibly reaching 80 degrees in some areas. So I forgot all about the poll and anointed myself with Honore des Pres Love Coco. Which seems to have become Love Coconut (on Beautyhabit)? I have an old decant and wonder if it’s the same now.
NST reviews and comments have often prompted me to try perfumes that I later purchased. It’s hard to remember exactly who was responsible, and I take even greater notice if it is more than one of those whose tastes overlap with mine.
One that I can remember very clearly is Bear’s observation that Chanel 28 la Pausa was really a vetiver perfume with iris. I had always found Chanel perfumes (other than No. 5) rather chilly and formal, but I love vetiver and iris, so tried 28 la Pausa and found it very relaxed and natural, and as well as lovely. Also, wearing it served as a gateway to other Chanels such as No. 19 and Cuir de Russie.
Thank you, Bear, and please accept this Enabler’s Pin as a token of appreciation for your good taste and astute observations!
Hello nozknoz!
Thank you for the Enabler’s Pin, I’m glad that you are enjoying 28 !
While I’m here I will say today I am wearing Fahrenheit, all violet leaves and petroleum product on my skin (no enabler story).
Have a great weekend, everyone ! 🙂
And you are most welcome, nozknoz. Knowledge is more valuable when you share it.
I was looking through my bottles today and I don’t have many that I can attribute to any one person, but one stood out.
I’m wearing Shalimar Ode a la Vanille. And I bestow my enabler pin on the ever-delightful Portia Turbo for mentioning in a comment thread on Facebook that Fragrancenet had this perfume for under $50. So I bought it. And a bottle of Rochas Femme while I was at it.
Seems efficient.
I’m posting late as usual, but I gave you my pin down below. Thank you!
My SOTD is Bandit, my new love. Thanks to Anniky for calling this great classic to my attention! I seriously have been wearing it 3-4 times per week since it started to cool down here.
So glad it worked out for you! And respect for wearing it so often, I’m in awe.
Oh my, I feel like Typhoid Mary but speading perfume love and excercising hand to wallet instead! Thanks for the enabler pins – I am glowing 😉
Probably really sparkly from all those pins….I’m pretty sure I’d rather hang around you than Typhoid Mary any day
Right back at you!
My pin has to go to my mum….I used to pester her to let me make perfume and when I was little we used to walk around her herb garden and pick herbs together. She’d then get a pot of water boiling and watch as I boiled up various plants: Rosemary, sage, chamomile and then help me pour the mixture into jars. We did hundreds of experiments…failures…but I have a distinct memory of a lavender/ vanilla essence mix that I gave to her for her birthday ( by which time it looked like swamp water ). She also let me wear her various Dior and YSL perfumes.
How marvellous! Mum used to let me bake, but it never occurred to either of us that we could cook perfumes!
I’m giving The Sweetest Entry Pin to Kanuka.
My pin goes to Sweetgrass, who very compellingly recommended Adam Levine for Her. It has a similar vibe to Estée Lauder Sensuous.. Warm, but discreet. Easy to wear, but not exactly dull. I had sworn off blind buys, again, but this was $7.99 extremely well spent. She also just 2(?) weeks ago convinced me to buy the Etat Libre d’Orange sample set from Sephora. Hooray for Sweetgrass, Queen of TJ Maxx and adjoining realms!
LOL I got a pin! Yay me! Thing is.. I’ve never tried Adam Levine for Her, so I kinda think you might have me mixed up with someone else. Of course I’m happy to take the credit. ;P Also yay for ELdO sample set. So sayeth I, Queen of TJ Maxx and adjoining realms! It has a good ring to it. 😀
Apparently I am just as bad at putting names to past posts as I am at putting names to faces. I was sure it was you! I should have saved the Adam Levine for next week. Well, at least I got the ELdO set right. I’m wearing Like This right now, in fact. Thank you, and thanks to whoever it was who talked up the AL. I know Poodle had a great review at APJ, but I already had a bottle by then.
Dangit, I have now been “enabled” into the ELdO sampler set also 🙂
I still consider myself relatively new to the inner workings of this fragrant game, and don’t post all that much. But I read all of you, and sample your suggestions avidly, and take great joy in the learning, wearing and collecting. So thank you all!
SOTD is Bond’s HIghline, which is yet again confirming that nothing Bond works for me, ever.
