Do tell us what fragrance you picked for today.
I'm wearing Lolita Lempicka L'Eau en Blanc.
Reminder: tomorrow, 16 October, is Powder Puff Friday — wear something powdery!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image from the Summer 2012 Ekyog + Lolita Lempicka capsule collection.
Egoiste (Chanel) 🙂
And one of the all time great fragrance commercials!
I have been known to steal some from my husband now and again. His bottle is from about 1999 or 2000 (yah, he works in a scent-free space… sniff). Smells awesome. So do you!
I do smell delicious if I don’t say so myself… 😉 Been waiting for the weather to cool down a little, and it seems so appropriate this time of year.
Ooh it was the first perfume I bought because it smelled ‘juicy’, pink rose and unlike the acidic cologne or spicy-old-man that I, at the time, didn’t like. I saw it placed at the bottom of the shelf along with other not-so-popular Pour Monsieur and Antaeus. I picked it up because I didn’t want to smell like others — I deliberately picked something somewhere people would ignore 🙂
Me too!
I also like to “share” his stash of Guerlain Homme and Dior Homme.
This holiday season I think I am going to get my husband a bottle of Habit Rouge because it is exactly what I, I mean “he,” needs…
I like the way you think!
I had a narcissistic roommate who would douse himself with this every morning, which made our other roommate sneeze for about 15 minutes straight. I haven’t been brave enough to sniff it again.
My favourite pink scent: Drôle de Rose. The weather is awful, and this is such a fun and bubbly fragrance.
Agree!
Yes it is! Drole de Rose is very well done.
Finally, a slightly calmer day!
Wearing Perfumer’s Workshop Tea Rose. I drained my sample this morning. May have oversprayed, as I am starting to get a cold, but it’s lovely, so I don’t care if it’s a bit strong.
I have such a strong scent memory of Tea Rose — wore it for years.
I wore Tea Rose for years as well to the point that it was a signature for me in college. I still have an old bottle, even though I never wear it anymore. It has a very uplifting smell.
That was my high school best friend’s signature scent. I always adored how simple her style was and she always wafted this soft scent of roses wherever she went. Love that fragrance. I’ve been meaning to get some, but I’m almost afraid it won’t compare to how I remember it.
You smell lovely.
My early memory of Tea Rose is that I wore some of my mom’s to school one day, maybe in 3rd grade. A girl from the grade above me – a rich girl who we all thought was SOOOO cool because she had every color of jelly shoes – made sniffing sounds and said “Who’s wearing Tea Rose? I smell it!” but I was too intimidated to speak up. It’s weird what an impression that made! I think I was feeling self-conscious because I never wore perfume. But I can still remember her exact tone of voice.
I must have missed reading about the Friday poll because I love me some powder. I wish I still had my China White though not enough to buy it again.
I was hoping to wear Dzongkha today but tracking says it’ll be delivered today. My fourth bottle of this stuff, and one of my desert island fragrances. I don’t know what I’d do if they actually did discontinue it.
Anyways, today in in Miss Dior parfum. Beautiful bitter and lush. Makes me want to sit up straight.
4th bottle! I am impressed.
I broke one and my last one was commandeered, but the sentiment is there. I need a lifetime supply!
Every time I read a comment like this (about Dzongkha possibly being disc.) I wonder if I need to by a second BB. It is one of my desert island fragrances too, maybe the one. Have you ever come across something that is similar?
I hope it is untrue, and even from L’Artisan, discontinuation isn’t always the end. But there are some steals at the discounters online (I got this new 100ml one for ~$60) if you are nervous.
I think there are a lot of related Duchaufours but I could live on Timbuktu if there was never anymore Dzongkha ever. That or one of his CdG Incense.
I want to love Dzongka, but I just don’t. 🙁
I’ll forgive you this time! 😉
I love Dzongka!
I’m thinking of acquiring a bottle of this, although I honestly can’t remember if I have ever sampled it. The description of it is right up my alley, so I don’t know how I could go wrong with a blind purchase.
I love it but that isn’t universal. Any access to a L’Artisan counter? I think Neiman Marcus carries them, or at least mine does.
I find it one of the hardest fragrances to describe. Apparently Duchaufour considers it his masterpiece. I did not get on with Timbuktu for now, but that may change ofcourse. To me Dzongkha is mostly about the iris, much less so about incense. It is dry, but not bone dry, sweetened by the peony I guess.
SOTD is HdP Moulin Rouge. Very powdery.
You smell gorgeous.
I love that one too! So pretty.
I’m wearing Putain des Palaces – just a couple of sprays because I’m teaching. The autumn is making its presence felt here at last, at least in the evenings.
Gucci edp. No powder, just love 🙂
The tiare one or the orange blossom/cumin one? In either case, yum.
The ob/cumin one, big chunky bottle, brown juice. I dont get any cumin though..
It’s a sweet cumin on me … maybe more like nutmeg mixed with coriander? Not sweaty at all.
i’ve just looked this one up, it sounds divine!, why do they always discontinue the good’uns?!
Do you think it’s worth a blind buy?, a couple on ebay at the moment..
I think that one is sort of a love-it-or-hate-it, so testing might be a good idea.
It is divine, but (as mals recommends) you might want to test it first. Surrender to Chance had samples a couple of years ago (that’s how I first came across it) and they may still have it in stock.
I recommend getting the OJ Discovery Set.
A lady that I work with wears this and it smells wonderful on her!
Montale Intense Cafe. I’ve been going a little too hard on the caffeine lately- let’s see if I can get my fix in perfume form instead!
Yeah.. good luck! 😉
Most of the scent in the Fueguia 1833 line (at least the 17 that I’ve tried) are pretty terrible, but there are a few good ones to be found, and Biblioteca de Babel is one of them: spiced tuberose, a bit of leather and vanilla, and lots of raw wood. It’s meant to evoke a library full of old books and it really does. I would be very tempted to get a bottle once my decant runs out, if it weren’t so damned expensive.
oh, that sounds great! I”ll have to look for it…
I agree. I had high expectations for the line and I was totally let down when I smelled them. completey blase.
From the notes you are describing liking give Olympic Orchids Woodcut a try. Really beautiful fresh cut lumber and vanilla scent and quite modestly priced.
I’ve got a few things on as I’m trying to decide on a few things to cull for swapping– Delrae Panache can go, Aoud Gourmet can stay for now, and there’s no real reason to keep After My Own Heart, especially since I’ve just run it against Desarmant (perfection), Opardu and Couer d’Ete
Noir pour femme today-
Brought baby for her flu shot.
Baby: crying time 5 seconds
Mommy: crying time 5 minutes
Guess I am the bigger baby
LOL! My fear of needles comes straight from my mom. I think she found my shots growing up just as painful as I did!
When our boys were small, my husband took them to the Dr. for shots whenever possible because I hated it so much!
Yeah, that was hard – I always cried with my kids too.
Thanks for your comments! I think its a combination of me not liking needles and also being pregnant -hormones hormones!
Hamamelis inspired me yesterday! Today I’m wearing Ormonde Jayne Tolu. It is the perfect compliment to our very beautiful, golden, crisp, sunny fall day. I’m having a hard time not letting myself want to get some of this after years of waffling!
Oh Ann, I would be happy to send you a travalo, or just a largish sample. It fits your weather beautifully, here is it cold, very wet and unpleasant. Misia is cheering me up!
Yes please! I am sure I can swap you something!!!
anneroosie at hotmail dot com !!!
I sent you an email!
SOTD is Chinatown. I’ve had a sample of this for some time, but was waiting for cooler weather. Anyway I sprayed it on this morning and it was love at first sniff. I went downstairs, and my husband and oldest son made their typical remarks: “you smell nice” and “smells like perfume”, respectively. I was happier with my youngest son’s reaction. First, he said “Mom, you smell delicious, like happiness!” Then, when I asked what he meant by “happiness” he thought for awhile and said “like Aunt Cynth’s house at Christmas time” (where we go every year for Christmas dinner).
Great compliment!
Mariella Burani today. It’s gorgeous outside, and cool but sunny. I love fall!
Whoops, didn’t mean to put this here.
Mariella Burani is so gorgeous – such a crime it was discontinued. Maybe I’ll have to wear that tomorrow for my powder frag.
Chinatown was my first “niche” perfume and I still love it! Too bad I don’t support the company that produces it.
I’ve just bought a bottle of Chinatown and it’s the closest I’ve come to buying before really getting to know a perfume. I’d sprayed it on myself a couple of time when overseas but never managed to get my hands on a sample. I’m still not sure what I think of it, as I’ve had such a bad cold I haven’t been able to smell it properly yet! I’m looking forward to extravagant spraying over the weekend.
Chinatown does seem to be one of the few widely liked perfumes from Bond No 9, and fortunately one of the less garish bottles. My beloved was rather startled by the bottle, then I showed him pictures some of the others :). He hasn’t commented on the perfume yet…
I agree that Chinatown smells like happiness! 🙂
I’m wearing one of my favorites, Chanel No. 22.
I’m hoping to try this at Saks NOLA at Christmastime while visiting my daughter. I want to try so many, I may have to sleep in the Chanel boutique. Or go back every day. Parking in the area is a bit difficult, though.
I only have two really powdery scents. Some vintage No 19 parfum and Jardins d’Armide by Oriza Legrand. I’m wearing the No 19 today and… I think I might wear it again for tomorrow too. It’s so lovely.
I chose it today because I’m doing another outfit coordination thing. I got my Everlane order yesterday and am wearing a nice soft cotton sweater today in an ash color that I think goes well with the parfum.
Well, I’m back in Azemour again today. It’s supposed to be warmish here today, and I tested several samples last night, two of which were COMPLETE scrubbers, so I needed to recalibrate my scent sense. 🙂
Oooh, what were the scrubbers? I’m always interested in different perspectives.
I hate to say, because I’m pretty sure it’s not the perfumers’ fault but my skin’s … but here I go anyway. One was Dark Horse from Dame Perfumery – cloying, and had a decaying melon vibe (on me) that was just awful. The other was Ann Gerard Cuir de Nacre, which I should love based on the notes but which smelled a bit like dry cardboard (again, on me). I love Ciel d’Opale and am a total sucker for most leather scents so I expected to love Cuir de Nacre … but no. As mals often says, just no.
After yesterday’s conversation, I’m wearing Violet Blonde for the first time in over a year. I’m struck by how pretty it is, in contrast with the fact that it doesn’t feel like it suits my personality at all.
And you smell wonderful.
Oh so glad to hear what you think! Does the former overcome the latter enough for it to be enjoyable? (It’s funny, I think my problem with it may be just the reverse–it definitely suits my idea of myself but when it comes right down to it, I think I maybe want my perfume to be a little easier-going than I am! 😉 )
Meanwhile, from yesterday: AMAZING that you picked up Shalimar instead! That’s totally the kind of thing I needed to save me from my errant purchase–something that’s manifestly well-crafted but also has instant appeal. I was def in Sephora too–interesting to wonder what else they have that might have done the trick for me (I am tragically phobic about the Guerlainade due to personal associations.)
It’s interesting… I’m completely absorbed in it and can’t stop smelling myself, but at the same time, don’t feel like it should be on my skin. It’s sweet enough for me, but not dark or spicy, so I can easily see it tipping into annoying territory because of the dissonance. I think this falls squarely in the category of things-I’d-love-to-smell-on-someone-else-and-would-maybe-even-envy. But it’s still just not for me.
As for good Sephora finds, they now have Atelier, CdG and JHAG, but back then, it might have been limited to other Tom Fords, Hermes, Chanel, Guerlain, and I’ll put in a vote for Prada Candy though I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Thank goodness for having other options now!
Ah yes, Chanel probably was my best bet, even though I still have never really found “my” Chanel–now I really like both Hermes and Prada Candy, but I think at the time I wanted something that packed more punch than the JCE Hermes options that Sephora carries, and more “serious” than Prada Candy (boo, what was wrong with me?!)
This makes me want to revisit Coco, Coco Mlle, et al, can’t exactly remember why I didn’t go for any of those.
I have some ” Macys money” that can be used on perfume. I think I have decided to get a bottle of chanel no 5. I used to love and wear Coco, but it no longer smells the same to me. I am still not sure, I guess I have more testing to do.
I don’t really like powdery scents, and so far although a few of my fragrances have powder as an incidental note, when I buy them, it’s definitely not for the powder. Anyway, I am as far from powder as possible in Smell Bent Brussels Sprouted.
What on earth does it smell like?
Well I believe the name is just to reflect the fact that it is part of the Smell Bent Leisure Cruise collection. It is described on their website as “sprouted greens, himalayan cedar, and deep green musk growing in fresh, wet earth”. Fragrantica calls it a woody aromatic, and lists it as a male fragrance. I think it is a spicy, greenish fragrance, appropriate for a very warm October day.
Ahhh.. It sounds nice!
Copal Azure today, This puts me in a lovely contemplative frame of mind, but I notice each time I wear it I have a very hard time concentrating on the many boring little tasks that make up a larger portion of my IT job. Maybe I better save it for the weekends, when I don’t have to discipline myself to do tedious makework so much…
Or maybe I better find a more interesting and congenial job…in any case, Copal Azure is wonderful, and I am 2/3rds the way thorough my nice larger travel spray, and am contemplating springing for the great Aedes FB when this is gone…
Summery day with a cool start today, so after working out, a shower with Rose Jam from Lush, then a couple of spritzes of Chanel Eau Premiere. There is warm, rosy sweet depth to Rose Jam that complement Eau Premiere so well. I think I am gonna wear this combination as much as possible (I need to buy a really massive bottle of Rose Jam if it is available this Christmas!)
Rose Jam shower gel is terrific.
I think it is available, but So White (the apple one) is not coming back, which i am bummed about.
I just drained the sample of Samurai (AdesSalaam) that Pixel sent me. I did not mean to. I just kept dabbing and dabbing… it is really terrific.
It is giving me a flashback to something I smelled in JAR’s cave at Bergdorf’s.
Don’t yet know the lasting power, and it doesn’t seem like it has much sillage–but perhaps if I had sprayed with abandon… ? But for nose candy, it is wonderful! I get incense, and hay, and maybe just a teeny bit of warm skin, perhaps some cinnamon (or carnation)–but just the teensiest tease of it… and deep in there is patchouli, but warm and rounded, not sharp or dirty, and very light… again just rounding out the hay and vetiver. Did I mention vetiver? Some vetiver in here, and oak moss.
AbdesSalaam!
Great description! Now I want some too…
I’ve had one of his sample bottles of this for a long time, and hadn’t gotten around to it. You’re right, it’s wonderful, both fresh (in an entirely natural way) and warm.
I think of his perfumes as wearing close to the skin. Naturals tend to do that, except for patchouli, don’t they?
It is really close to the skin, which is a drawback for me. But so cocoa brown velvet!
SOTD is Marni that I layered over Violet Blonde yesterday around 1PM I think–now 22 hours later, through exercise, a shower, several changes of clothes, Marni’s still hanging around! Kind of amazing, especially for a scent that’s pretty sheer to begin with–usually I resign myself to my lightweight scents disappearing pretty quickly. Maybe the VB boosted the staying power? But I really only smell the Marni!
Gosh, the L’eau en Blanc bottle is pretty.
SotD is Infusion d’Iris which on first sniff was “eww, no” and now a year later is “oh, yes” especially at the end of a hot day. I’ve been enjoying it since Tuesday.
I am grateful for my eyes and nose today. My doctor believes my elevated intraocular pressure is likely resolving in a positive way after 7 years of treatment and monitoring. A while ago an eye medication caused my sense of smell to be dulled and then disappear. Thankfully my nose recovered when I stopped using the medication. So YAY! for being able to see and smell the world around me.
It some ways it seems it has been longer (so many scents to smell!), but it’s been less than a couple of years since I found NST. I am grateful for the insights, knowledge, and kindness that are shared here each day.
Thank you, everyone. You smell mahhh-velous!
I am very happy that you can smell again too! Congrats and enjoy your nose!!
Glad your senses are returning!
The pressure sounds frightening…glad you’re better. And enjoy!
My mom passed away 2 weeks ago so I’m just back from L.A. It was such an emotionally intense 3 weeks there that the calm now feels really strange, but welcome, nonetheless. I’m glad I got to be there for her and my family and it was all pretty peaceful. I had packed in such a hurry that I only brought a few samples with me but none of them felt quite right. It was also like 100 degrees there. The hospital was across the street from a mall and a couple of blocks from Le Labo so I got some samples. I wore the Vetiver 47(?) the most. I came home to some samples I had ordered and a FB of IA An Air of Despair which I won in a draw (how weird to have won that one!) My SOTD will be Bottega Veneta, after they turn the hot water back on in our building(grrrrr), which is my favorite of the samples and perfect for the beautiful Fall day here in NYC.
I’ve lurked on and off but happy to post again. I’ve missed you NSTERS and that skank post was thoroughly entertaining so thanks for the much needed laughs. Perfumistas rock!
Oh Elisa I am so sorry for your loss. I’m really glad it was peaceful, I hope that’s some comfort. And some nice scents, too.
My sincere condolences, that must be so hard. Glad to hear it was peaceful and you managed to be there.
So sorry to hear of you’re loss, Elisa. So glad you’re finding a little comfort in scent.
My deepest condolences to you and your family, Elisa. It is a great blessing that you could be there for her.
I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is terrible, but I’m glad it was peaceful and you could be there. Welcome home (sorry about your hot water), and I wish you the best in your journey to heal.
I am sorry about your loss.
Oh goodness, I’m so sorry about your loss. I wish you all the strength, love, and peace in the world.
Sorry to hear about your mom passing, and I hope you will recover soon.
I am sorry for your loss, Elisa.
Sorry to hear about your mom, Elisa.
Please accept my deep condolences. I’m glad you’re back on NST.
Elisa, I’m so very sorry. Losing someone is hard, even if they are full of years and honours and ready, in their own estimation, to let go. All strength to you, that you may find your best way through this time.
I’m sorry for your loss, but it’s good to hear it was peaceful.
I am sorry for the loss of your mother. you are in my thoughts and prayers. stay good to yourself during this time.
Dear Elisa, I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you find peace and healing in your return home.
Elisa, sorry for your loss. Wishing you peace.
Lots of well wishes Elisa, it will get better.
Sorry for your loss, I wish you all the best.
I hope you and your family will be well soon, Elisa. I am very sorry to hear that.
So sorry-it gets easier with time.
Elisa, I’m very sorry.
Sorry to hear this, Elisa. I hope there was time for good stories and laughter, too…
Condolences, Elisa. I hope you find comfort in many happy memories.
ElisaP, I am so sorry for your loss and it must have been some comfort that you and your family were there for her.
I’m so sorry to hear about your mother.
My sincere condolences, Elisa. You are in my thoughts.
The weatherman said this will be our last 90 degree day of the year so I’m wearing my favorite summer perfume, Nuit de Tubereuse. This will probably be its final wear until next summer.
L’Heure Bleue for me today. There’s so much I love about this: the name, the history, the bottle and the perfume itself. Alas, it just isn’t me. Wearing it feels like wearing a dress that just doesn’t fit.
I know what you mean. L’Heure Bleue felt out of character for me, too. So does the Violet Blonde I’m wearing today. Kind of like a lavender-gray skirt suit when I feel like wearing jeans. Funny how it makes that association with the wrong clothes.
I only enjoy L’HB in the evenings as a “dessert” fragrance to enjoy for a few hours after I put my daughter to bed and before I do.
Iris Poudre today, one of my very first niche perfumes, proudly bought in Paris many years ago. I feel so elegant in this scent.
I’m planning on wearing this tomorrow! It’s so lovely.
“Elegant” sums it up nicely!
We’ll be twins tomorrow.
Triplets!
Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose
Hello everyone!
I am wearing Apres L’Ondee (vintage EdT) today.
Lucky you! Enjoy.
Wow! I love the modern, but haven’t even sniffed the vintage. (I have smelled vintage versions of most of the Guerlain classics, but Apres L’Ondee is really hard to find.)
I have the modern and the vintage (late 80’s) both in EdT – the vintage is a bit spicier. But, the modern version is beautiful too. I don’t think you’re missing out on too much. 🙂 Whereas for L’Heure Bleue, for example, I think the difference between vintage and modern is like night and day.
As an avid collector of the Lempicka apple bottles, I just had to get the L’Eau en Blanc, in spite of the reviews saying that it is powdery. Powder and bad bronchial tubes just don’t go together. The semi-translucent bottle is beautiful but the juice is coloured and it loses some of its glory as the juice is depleted. I thought I would prefer L’Eau Jolie but it turns out that I like L’Eau en Blanc better and look forward to L’Eau en Blanc Perles.
Checking this out on Fragrantica – had no idea there were so many different apple bottles. You must have a beautiful array!
I was feeling indecisive, so I have some Demeter Honeysuckle on for the moment and can try again a bit later.
That one goes so fast; I can see why you would use it as a placeholder while you make up your mind
SOTD – SL Five o’clock au gingembre.
I wore the same roller of Tauer Incense Flash all week in Florida. So happy to be home and have other choices with my bottled children.
SOTD is Arquiste for J. Crew No. 57.
I’ll be joining the Iris Poudre party tomorrow!
SOTD was Cuir de Lancome, needed a comforting scent to brace the cold today!
And you chose a beautiful one. I love Cuir de Lancôme.
I had the loveliest Tuesday afternoon sniffing at AnnE’s house. She and I share a love of ambers but our tastes differ in other perfume areas. She was most generous in sharing some of her favorites, so this morning I’m in vintage Cabochard parfum, and enjoying it greatly. I’d love to invite other Portland (or PNWesters) to join us for occasional get-togethers. Send an email to my username at a oh ell dotty com if you’re interested.
Foxbins! It’s still a long ways away but I will be in Portland August next year for my niece’s wedding reception. I will contact you closer to the date to see if y’all are available!
I’m confused about why people are describing Chanel No. 19 as “powdery.” To me, it’s a crisp green floral. The galbanum takes it in the opposite direction of powder.
Yes, Iris Poudre smells powdery to me as does the infamous Teint De Neige. Last night I was sniffing my Myrrhiad Eau de Parfum and thought it smelled powdery, perhaps due to the almond note?
So what exactly does “powdery” mean to you all?
Often my nose interprets heliotrope, violet, and iris as powdery. I think in No. 19 the iris gives the powder note.
I was starting to get the idea that people were equating iris with powder. But I wondered if that was because they smelled “powder” every time they smelled iris, or because they just thought iris always equals powder. To me, many iris fragrances are not at all powdery. Some are buttery, cold, or root-y, even carrot-y.
Just wondering
Yes, for me too iris is often carrotty or root-vegetable-ish. JMO, as I am no perfumer, but I think it depends on the interaction with other notes.
I’m curious, for example, about what they added to Chanel No 19 Poudre to make it “powdery.” More iris? Or more of something else?
Haha, I just read two reviews of No 19 Poudre to try to figure that out. Victoria Frolova finds it very powdery. Angela on this site doesn’t find it powdery at all.
Just goes to show ya’…..
No.19 Poudre is super powdery whereas the EDP is more green but Instill get some powder. Inagree that iris does not automatically equal powder. To me,most perfumes with tonka beans is powdery.
For me powder means a cosmetic or dusting powder smell.
I get this one. And I think that’s an association with the notes commonly used to scent face powder, such as violet and rose. Or that used to be used for this. So the perfume Paris would quality for this. But to me that’s a whole different smell than a powder “note” in a perfume.
Then there are the notes that evoke baby powder, a different smell than face powder. And American baby powder smells different than French.
I guess the whole concept of “powder” is very subjective and open to interpretation. Have fun tomorrow!
I had to look it up on Bois de Jasmin. My immediate association was Teint de Neige, which I loathed ( sorry to all of it’s fans). Apparently a lot of fragrances that I do like are described as powdery. Including the one I’ll be wearing tomorrow.
Greetings, all. I just slept ALL night. No, really–the dear one and Dakkie woke me just now, very sweetly, with a cup of tea, and it was already twenty to seven! I don’t think I’ve slept so long since I was seventeen! So, I have a loathsome complaint of some sort, but yay! though I can’t talk, I can still smell, so I’ve showered, put on my favourite cotton pyjamas, and crawled back into clean sheets, wearing Traversee du Bosphore and two cats. They smell divine too. I might do some of the marking, but most likely not. However, he trouble with marking is that if you leave it alone too long, it gets up to No Good and has puppies, and then where will I be? Actually, asleep again, I suspect. Have a wonderful day, everyone. I like to think of you all out there, improving the environment with your perfumes.
feel better soon.
Have a wonderful day too Waterdragon, I am going to try and duplicate your morning here in the evening (early night, one cat, clean pyjamas and the Bosphore!).
I hope your purr behaves better than the gormless Dakkie! He’s chasing rabbits in his mind, and he’s just bounced onto his mother, who is unimpressed and has decided to exert her alpha-cat status, so now my bed has a feline stand-off, full of flashing eyes and lashing tails. Have a good night’s sleep.
My purr is shameless. In the very early morning when it is time for his breakfast, at least in his mind, he starts throwing things at me, honestly, whatever he finds on my night stand (tick tweezers, coasters, pens). He knows ofcourse he gets away with almost anything…
Today I’m wearing MH Geranium Bourbon. I feel like this one can be worn almost any time during the year. Well, maybe not when it’s ten below zero – then I might want a warm amber or vanilla for a little comfort.
Hi Mary Carol, I own GB too. However, I actually only sprayed it once. My bottle has A bitter herbal note that I didn’t detect in the sample that I tested prior to purchasing. I just can’t get past that note so I haven’t worn it. I’m wondering if you notice that bitter herbal note as well? I bought my bottle from Amazon so I’ve always wondered if It was authentic.
went to work today not feeling well because of a sinus infection. I sprayed a tiny amount of Orange Sanguine. A woman I work with said ” you smell like you’re sick, like hot tea” so, I came home early, took a shower. and put on my pajamas with my vintage Cabochard, which has surprisingly become a comfort scent to me.
Oh, here’s two of us! Get well!
Hope you both feel better soon!
SOTD is Berdoues Assam of India (h/t Oakland Fresca!) Wishing for fall. We had a wee bit of rain last night — can’t wait for the real thing; one of our wells has gone dry.
Yippee!! my bottle of Assam will be in my mailbox later today! It’s my scent for Friday.
Wearing Ligea La Sirena In preparation for tomorrow.
Petunia, I get kind of an “off” note when I first spray Geranium Bourbon on, but then it disappears right away and smells nice. Maybe that is what you are getting?
I haven’t tried to wear it for a year. When I first tried it from the bottle, my husband commented that he didn’t like it and he doesn’t usually say much. Unless I overspray. He so obviously disliked it that I haven’t worn it since. It as a bit overwhelming for me as well. Perhaps my sample was a bit older and had mellowed out. I have several perfumes that I need to rehome. I just don’t have a clue how to sell them. I know others do It all the time.
Still in Texas and getting ready for the wedding tonight. Still living off of Chanel no 19. I am wishing that I brought a decant of vintage Jicky. What I can say about the heat is that it’s a dry heat but it still kind of sucks.
Try bringing samples along with you when you travel. They’re so tiny, and then if you get sick of the decant you brought, you have something different to play with.
I wasn’t quite sure if I should have taken a decant with me or not. So I played it safe with one full bottle. I just hate these flying regulations and have a hard time keeping them straight. But I wasn’t about to spend 24 hours in a car.
Just got a compliment on my perfume (Mariella Burani) from the teller at the bank. Made me smile!
yay for perfume compliments! I know it really shouldn’t matter, but gosh it is nice when someone reacts positively to your sotd.
I agree! I sort of got complimented today. Someone said it smells good in here but she wasn’t sure about the source. Ha! I’ll take it.
Guess what Estée Lauder Tuscany Per Donna layers really beautifully with? Aramis Tuscany Per Uomo! Dry, citrus herby goodness.
Did a review of my current carton of fragrances (oh, how I miss my teak armoire, in storage) for powdery scents. Came up with Bois d’Argent, vintage Tweed parfum, and vintage Ultima edp. Couldn’t face Youth Dew. Wore the Ultima, and while pleasant it too smells dated. Loved it in the day though – like 40 years ago (shudder).
Trying to think about powder, never a note I’ve pursued. There is an interesting list on Fragrantica:

I don’t have a single bottle! I do have a few samples, and some other perfumes occur to me: Lush Rose Jam, which has sort of a baby powder musk, and Diptyque Volutes, which includes face powder notes. I wonder if I could get away with the cloud-like FM Eau d’Hiver?
Tonight I’m sampling La Via del Profumo Samurai, prompted by Oakland Fresca. Not sure if it’s coincidence or suggestibility, but the drydown is reminding me of a cedar talcum from the U.K. that I came across in West Africa in the 1970s. Have never seen it since.
