Parfums M Micallef Akowa ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 22 September 2015 16 Comments

Parfums M Micallef Akowa

French niche line Parfums M Micallef has launched Akowa, a new woody oriental fragrance for men.

AKOWA is the name of an African tribe, keeping secrets and mysteries to themselves and for their heirs.

AKOWA is a fragrance based on roots from mysterious African plants, created for discerning men who decide their fates with determination...

An original and appealing marriage to which the Micallef team of perfumers, Geoffrey Nejman and Jean Claude Astier has added orange blossom, bergamot, cocoa and amber, vetiver and white musk.

Additional notes include fig leaf, vanilla and patchouli.

Parfums M Micallef Akowa is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, €195.

That ad is beautiful. I do hope I can get my hands on this.

It is striking. I’m afraid it’s creeping me out too (see comment below).

    Striking picture.
The list of ingredients seem a bit pedestrian compared to the ad, but, we’ll see…

I guess it depends on what the “African roots” are, and whether there are any actual roots or if it’s just a fantasy accord composed of something like Karanal.

They do list it in the pyramid as a mystery ingredient, so who knows.

The eyes are creeping me out. Crocodile eyes with the almost uniquely human whites – not a good combination.

Same here. I wish I’d posted it earlier so it would have moved down the page.

Yes!!! In addition to the color and slit pupil, those eyes seem like the reverse of the usual shape. That is, if an eye is an almond shape, the wider part is usually closer to the nose, and his are the reverse.

I find the ad uncomfortable both because it is creepy and borderline (?) racist. Urgh.

I didn’t think of it that way, but it does remind me slightly of that Jean Patou Colony ad in which you only see the woman’s eyes against a black background.

Cringe-worthy in more ways than one.

Like many here, it seems, I wish they could have left the model´s eyes unretouched, then it would be gorgeous, instead of creepy. But that being said, the perfume itself might be great, and I´d love to try it.

OMG, I have to find that Ylang decant, it´s so beautiful and I´ve been craving it for a while, now…

BTW, Google reveals that Akowa is the name of an ethnic group of pygmies in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon (French Wikipedia).
