Diana Vreeland Devastatingly Chic ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 16 September 2015 17 Comments

Diana Vreeland Devastatingly Chic

The Diana Vreeland line has launched Devastatingly Chic, a new spicy carnation fragrance for women.

Devastatingly Chic is inspired by Mrs. Vreeland's love of fashion and her unique, adventurous style. Credited with being the first fashion editor, she pushed the boundaries of fashion as a transformative experience empowering women's artistic and creative worlds.

[Perfumer] Carlos Benaim designed this fragrance to reacquaint women with the contemporary elegance and sophistication of the carnation flower. A twist on a classic, the unexpected composition of carnation and pink pepper creates a modern sophisticated fragrance. The bright top notes, mandarin and pink pepper, add sparkle. Spicy carnation combines with timeless rose blooming at the core of the scent. An addictive blend of woody notes and patchouli create a warm finish.

Diana Vreeland Devastatingly Chic is available now at Neiman Marcus, in 50 ($185) or 100 ($250) ml Eau de Parfum.

I feel poor when I walk into a Neiman Marcus, but nonetheless, I will venture up to Bellevue to check this out. I liked the late lamented Potion lotion from Lush- and that had that lovely, clove-y carnation fragrance, so I may fall in love with this.

I have seen these fragrances in Neiman Marcus, but have never stopped to try them. When I go in NM, I am usually on a mission and am only focused on that. I have always been curious. How is the line doing? Do people like it?

It does not seem to have gained much traction w/ perfumistas, from what I can see. Whether or not they’re selling, I have no idea.

Maybe this will be like an updated Spellbound? I’ll lok forward to reading reviews and perhaps journey to NM.

“A twist on a classic….” I wonder if they are referring to Bellodgia? I love carnation and will give this a try if opportunity presents.

I got a decant of the late lamented Malmaison, which is a wonderful spicy carnation. How does this compare to that?

I was at Bergdorfs yesterday and the SA said she sold 6 bottles of it yesterday. It smells nice on paper. I’ll need to wear it to make a verdict.

Carnation is my favorite floral perfume note. I know that note lists are rarely complete, but apart from the patch, this sounds great. Well, as great as post-IFRA carnation is allowed to be 🙁

I think it’s very nice, though I don’t have a frame of reference where carnation is concerned. The two sandalwood fragrances are really nice– Perfectly Marvelous, which is spicy sandalwood, and Absolutely Vital, which is a smooth sandalwood.

Thanks for your comment, Sapphire. In the Devastatingly Chic, how strong is the patchouli? Did you smell any ylang ylang (I know it’s not listed, but, they seem to sneak it into everything)? If you can’t remember, no worries, and thanks again for your comment.

I really don’t notice patchouli. Certainly not in the way you can spot it in Coco Mlle. I don’t pick up any Ylang-Ylang either.

Outrageously Vibrant, which is supposed to be a chypre, mainly smells like a far, fruity rose to me. A little like Aerin Evening Rose, but not quite as sweet.
