So sorry, but it's another Monday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando because I'm about to get on an airplane for a short flight home. Posting will be lighter than usual today as a result, but later today we'll have a review of the new Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme, plus, this post will get a pretty picture.
Reminder: this Friday, 18 September, will be H2O Friday: wear a fragrance with a marine / aquatic / water note, or wear a fragrance that reminds you of the sea (or some other body of water) in some other way.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I sprayed Good Girl Gone Bad on Saturday. Its Monday-I have showered and can still smell it on my skin. Not that its a bad thing-but that is some longevity!
Have a good flight ahead and get home safe!
Wow, that’s longevity!
And we are back home safe and sound, thanks.
today the temp dropped to 50 degrees this morning with a high only in the mid 70s later this afternoon. Autumn has begun! Pumpkins abound. I had my PSL (pumpkin spice latte) this morning. (yay!)
sotd: Givenchy Ambre Tiger. It’s a lovely amber.
Everything pumpkin is in full swing! Love this time of year and joining you with a lovely amber of my own, Ambre Russe by Parfum d`Empire.
Cozy and warm for a cooler Sept. day.
I adore the seasonal pumpkin scones and bagels. I had scorned the latter, being a bagel purist, until I tried one…
I am waiting for the pumpkin cheesecake
Pumpkin cheesecake! Well THAT created a lemming! I shall google a recipe because although it’s spring here, it’s cheesecake season all year round 🙂
It’s good stuff and I agree that cheesecake is always in season
I noticed that Ben and Jerry’s has a “limited edition” Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream in my local supermarket. I passed only because I cannot fit into any of my clothes and need to start to do something about it….. but it was sorely tempting.
Ooh, all sound so good! Had a pumpkin creme brûlée once. That was like 15 years ago and it was so good I still think about it!
Pumpkin Spice creamer!
I swear when we left town 2 days ago, it was summer. We’re back and it feels like fall.
I think summer will be back. ????
Like Perfume Sniffer above, I knew today would feel like Fall. Thinking about Volutes, Vetyverio, Chergui, and others, I was finally excited for the change of season. I wore Joy today to acknowledge the more appropriate conditions for a little skank, and for the happiness of the season.
LOL at “the more appropriate conditions for a little skank” — maybe I will dig up my Joy!
I’m always amazed at how you squeeze NST into your normal life.
I’m wearing Le Parfum de Thérèse and it suits the early autumn weather we are having really well. Trying to do some homework mixed with household chores like washing and cleaning. Not a brilliant day, but not a bad one either.
You smell great- that’s one of my favourite Malles.
Mine too. Top favourite is Cassie.
I ought to be better at it than I am. I’m so old I cannot properly format an image on my iPad!! That is sad but that’s how it is, I need my mouse.
And agree, you smell great!
I have a hard time with my laptop as it hasn’t got a mouse yet. My hands are too stiff and well, not adapted to these sweeping movements. So I understand perfectly. Great picture by the way.
And it really looks like that 🙂
One small spray of Mitsouko EDP. It’s cool now, and this just felt right when I executed the daily grab/sniff/evaluate/repeat loop. It’s supposed to hit 80 today, so we’re in that lovely in-between, with cool evenings and warm days.
Winter should be giving way to Spring by now, but it’s finally a little cold here, and very rainy, so I’m wearing Rose Kashmir, which feels like a red embroided silk scarf.
Have a great week, everybody!
Wearing a Jasmine White Moss/Ferre mashup. I could pretend it was inspired layering, but it was in fact a case of grabbing the wrong bottle when topping up a decant. Thank goodness it seems to work.
Sounds like a good combo – even though it was a mistake. I’ve done that a few times – mostly if I put on a fragrance right after I shower and then later after I get dressed I forgot I already put something on. Happy accident.
It’s been a weekend of perfume sniffing but I did not find anything that I was terribly excited about. I got a sample of Black Opium in a goody bag and wore it today. It really reminds me of Cinema, so I am enjoying it. Happy Monday!
Hah! Fittingly, I’m wearing Tom Ford Fleur de Chine. It’s one of my office staples, as it’s very beautiful, but surprisingly subtle for a Tom Ford creation.
I remember that one was a real stand out when I had a sniff-bender at the TF counter a while back.
Yes, this one I would recommend even to people who don’t usually like Ford’s scents. Very well done, I think.
Oh, v good to know! Thanks for this rec.
Scent twins! I don’t have a FB of FdC, but I keep a decant in my office and it was calling to me this morning. So pretty.
Hi, twin! You smell great 🙂 I actually bought a full bottle, despite the price – that’s how much I like it. And if I could manage to make a decant, I would keep that in my office, too.
Yes that one is absolutely gorgeous. I have spent about 30 minutes debating this one vs. Shanghai Lily and ended up with FdC. That’s pretty much the only TF FB I have (rest are decants so don’t count).
What are the others you like?
Asked a trusted SA to confirm a blog comment I read. He asked around and confirmed that FdC is “rumored” to be on the chopping block 🙁
Oh 🙁 If this is true, I should probably stop liking any of his scents, as they also discontinued my all-time favourite Ford, Velvet Gardenia.
Annikky, have you tried TF Black Violet?
SOTD= DSH’s lovely Scent of Hope, after a weekend of smallish mainly like Spar Varnish…
Smelling, not smallish! Stupid spellchecker! LOL!
Makes more sense that way!
Not wearing anything yet… but thinking I’ll not go gentle into the dark errr… fall, but rage rage against the dying of the light in the form of La Chasse aux Papillons or California Reverie or Hanbury or Week-End in Normandy or….
Never gentle!
(Into the dark, that is)
Wearing Eau des Merveilles on this stunningly beautiful fall day. I kicked myself for not wearing it more during the summer, but I think I like it even better in the slight coolness of early fall.
YES! That is just wonderful- and I think with warmth of the body and cool air you get a magical sort of scent, moreso than in warm weather.
Scent twins!
I had remnants of Miss Dior Le Parfum in my hair from yesterday and didn’t want anything to clash with that too much, so I put EdM on my wrists and neck.
SOTD for early fall weather is No 19 extrait. It smells like a sun warmed meadow!
We’re having beautiful fall weather here too (finally!), so I’m in Aedes Oeillet Bengale. Perfect early fall scent!
I love Oeillet Bengale. Couldn’t justify a bottle due to the expense and how fleeting the scent is; but while it lasts I adore it
I just have a small decant, that’s almost empty. I’d love a FB, but they are expensive and definitely out of my price range. Those bottles are beautiful though…
I am wearing Soivohle’s Amun Ra – The Tears of Re, from a sample I won on Perfume Posse a while back. It’s such a captivating fragrance. The sweetness of the honey and the spices remind me of one of those Italian sodas like Brio or Chinotto. Yummm!
I wish they shipped to Canada.
One of my faves– you smell great
I love Mondays- it’s the promise of a new week and getting things done. It’s the one day I will bother putting on makeup for work.
It’s a cool morning, and there is the promise of rain this week! I am starting my fall exercise regime and need something enveloping and comforting after a morning exercise and shower. I chose Cuir de Russie for this morning- it smells perfect for a cool morning on a exercise warmed body!
What a great attitude!
I’m wearing the new Marc Jacobs fragrance “Decadence”, which is wretched.
Because of the bottle design, I think it would make a nice gift for a teenage girl or college student who likes a little glamour. The scent is horribly sweet though, so I couldn’t recommend it for anyone older.
Just to clarify — because the comment above doesn’t appear to make an enormous amount of sense! — I’m only wearing this perfume because I sampled it today.
And it’s putrid, but the handbag-shaped bottle is a winner.
So sad to hear it’s putrid, I had hopes…
For what it is worth, I tested, loved and bought Decadence. It is very sweet, but that is my thing. My 12 year old sprayed it on her, and I did not like it for her at all. She just likes the bottle anyway.
Ah, then hope lives! Sweet isn’t usually my thing but you never know. I do like Prada Candy, for instance…
I’m wearing one of my favorite fall frags, Une Rose Chypree.
That one is really great for fall.
Hey Mals,
It must have been you then who inspired me to get a small decant of Organza Indecence? Well, I am very glad I did so!!!
I’m so glad you like it! It is So Not My Usual Thing – but really wonderful all the same.
I wore that yesterday! It is wonderful…
Hi Elisa,
I think it was you who loves Organza Indecence by Givenchy? I blind purchased a 5 ml decant of a “vintage” version from STC when they had their 40% off sale, and I really love it!
Actually I think our local Organza Indecence lover is Mals!
Im a huge fan too- OI is in my top 10, at least.
I have some of the vintage and a bottle of the re-released version and the only difference I notice is that the original has a slighly boozier opening, but after that, much the same. I think it was The Non-Blonde’s review that says pretty much the same thing.
Fragrancex gets the re-release version in occasionally. I got my fb and my back-up there 😉
No idea what “vintage” is my vintage decant, but it is boozy. Really a fun fragrance. I could see it as a niche offering from several companies…
Thank you for this info, Perthgirl. I’ve been lemming for OI since I first read about it, but had resigned myself to waiting until I could get to States and find the Givenchy exclusives. Now I shall go on a focused perfume hunt from home instead.
It is good stuff, and like Perthgirl, I don’t get a lot of difference between the original release and the later one. It’s one of the few oriental-ish things I actually like!
You smell wonderful, and yes it is great for autumn. It’s not melancholy exactly but a little wistful all the same.
My SOTD is Pear +Olive by SlumberHouse again. I think today is like my 4th or 5th time wearing it. To me, it is so intoxicating and addictive. I only have to spray a little and it lasts all day!
Still commando so far today, but it’s foggy and smoky (due to the Napa fires) here, so TF London would be appropriate. But like Oakland Fresca I’m unwilling to go with fall scents just yet — and it will be warmer later.
Such a shame about those fires! I do hope they get things under control soon. Between the CA drought and fires buy could your state use a deluge of rain, like for a year straight!
I’m still thinking that maybe I should have bought that one when I was in London, but I was in such a hurry and didn’t want to make a hasty decision…
SOTD is Balenciaga Pour Homme.
Cold spring day here today and had to get ready for work this arvo knowing it would get colder, so I wanted something cozy. Picked up a few bottles to sniff. No.. .no.. .no… Chinatown- yes! Then some more just to see.. no…no.. no.. ooh Kalemat.. really should wear this more.. (spritz generously)… Am enjoying it but dammit I really shouldve gone for Chinatown… :-/
I’m wearing serge lutens’ tubereuse criminelle. I snagged a sample at Barney’s and I’m trying it out!
I am wearing Chanel No.5 vintage perfume layered with one drop of Chanel Coco Mlle perfume. I am off today and was in a mood of experimenting. I really like the combo though.
My SOTD is Roses Shining Everywhere by Living Libations. The first 30 minutes are too sour/rose otto-ish (I prefer rose absolute) for me, but after that tones down, this stuff becomes SO beautiful. Very natural smelling rose with spices. I keep catching whiffs of myself and I am quite pleased 🙂
That one sounds lovely. Since I’m on a bit of a rose-kick, I may have to check this one out. Looks fairly reasonably priced, too.
I’ve been on a rose-kick, as well 🙂 I’ve been drinking and wearing rosewater this summer and wearing rose absolute.
Simplers Botanicals sells rose absolute diluted in jojoba oil and vanilla CO2 in jojoba oil. They layer quite nicely. The vanilla CO2 is woody, like sun-warmed pine furniture.
I’m not a big vanilla fan… but woody vanilla is different. Hmmmm.
You can sniff it in-person at Whole Foods.
Have you ever tried Gulkand? It’s a rose petal jam used in Ayurveda to create balance, reduce “heat” conditions etc. Don’t know about the balancing part, but it’s pretty yummy if you like rose-flavored foods.
That’s the stuff that Kevin makes! I would like to try it.
This is the first full week the kids are in school, and I took my vacation this week! I had planned on getting alot done, but now just thinking of a nap. I can be productive tomorrow, right? Wearing Philosophy Fresh Cream layered over Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille’ body butter. cool but sunny today.
Sometimes naps are a very productive thing to do. Being refreshed and welcoming when the kiddies come home from school is an important part of being a mom!
Thank you. sometimes we need permission to rest without guilt.
I tried Fresh Cream 2 weeks ago and I liked it!
Santal Exotique–a comforting hug while I worry about my cat who seems to have declining Kidney function plus an infection. Can’t afford to bring her in for 24 hr IV fluids, antibiotics and monitoring (including 1 or more blood tests) so I alternate between hope and crying
Oh, so sorry to read about your sick kitty. They think of themselves as Lords of the Jungle, but they are pretty, fragile little things. I hope she rallies.
Oh dear, so sorry!
So sorry about your cat. Sending you virtual hugs to go with the Santal Exotique. Hope your dear turns the corner and starts recovering soon.
I can’t tell you how sorry I am. I have been thinking of you and wondering how she was doing. Cats are tough little survivors but have such delicate renal systems. Seems like when they’re sick, they are really sick. I hope she pulls through so you can relax.
I’m sorry to hear about your sick kitty. I hope she gets better.
Aarrghhh. very sorry!!
Oh no the poor little girl 🙁 It’s heartbreaking having a sick pet and not being able to make them better. I hope she fights through it ok. And hugs to you.
All my best wishes, it’s an awful feeling, let’s hope she weathers this.
So sorry to hear about your kitty. We had a sick cat for a while on meds and I’VE that we did occasionally at home and it was heartbreaking for us Thinking of you…
Oh, my poor dear! I’m so, so sorry. I hope your purr rallies.
Oh, I just saw this now, Sending heartfelt wishes and virtual hugs your way. i’ve had beloved cats with all sorts of serious issues so I know that pain, hopefully the cat’s infection will clear up and you can find a way to deal with the renal issues w/o the necessity of 24-hour care.
So sorry to hear about your cat. It’s amazing how some cats can recover from serious illness or injury, I hope she is one of those.
I’m so sorry to hear about your cat. I hope that she gets better.
Poor fuzzy 🙁 fingers crossed for her to feel better.
Yikes! I hope she rallies back!
Dear Rena, I do understand what you are going through. But I want you to know that the animal’s resilience and ability to heal is tremendous so please do not lose hope. My dog recently was diagnosed with cancer, had major surgery, two blood transfusions, and some complications. At one point the worst imaginable options were on the table. But despite all that my dog has bounced back amazingly well and have exceeded everyone’s expectations. A combination of modern medicine and Chinese herbs have done wonders for him. We will always have to take it day by day, but he is back to being the tornado he is! Your kitty can too! Sending you hope and lots of positive energy.
After a very busy 3 weeks it’s back to a much-needed Keep-It-Simple Monday for me. SOTD is Dame Perfumery Cassis, Rose & Sandalwood. The cassis keeps the rose. tart and a little green and fresh as our weather warms up after a very chilly weekend but the warm sandalwood says, yes, it’s fall.
Wearing vintage Mitsouko today and loving the oakmossy goodness.
Yes, it feels like fall here, too. I’m wearing Ambre Precieux for a morning of leaf-raking. I love my big maple tree, but there are so many leaves it will be December before it’s bare.
leaf removal never gets complete around here till after Thanksgiving–a weekly 3-month project! But it’s over 80 today, so I’ll forget about raking & bagging for now.
Sorry to hear about your kitty’s kidney function issues, Goddessrena. Hope he somehow can at least feel a little better and hang in there.
I spritzed on CDG Vettiveru today for a day of vetiver smells.
SOTD = Rania J Ambre Loup. Celebrating slightly cooler weather down in Cal
I’m wearing Molinard Habanita from a sample today. I had tried this one before, but I remembered not liking it much, thinking it was too powdery. I think the previous sample that earned the “too powdery” assessment might have been vintage, but I don’t remember exactly. I like this one, though.
FWIW, I love Habanita, but some days it’s just a smothering death-by-powder asphyxiation, and then other times back to its delicious self. Maybe your nose plays the same tricks on you that mine does? 🙂 lol
It might..lol. I figured formulation differences, but whatever it is, it’s working for me today. 🙂
Oh and btw Robin, I have also stopped getting email updates 🙁 I just have to keep the page open on my iphone and refresh it…
You were using FeedMyInbox too? Very sorry. You could try Feedly if you want, but it’s not an email system. And there might be other email rss services I don’t know about.
Oh, blogtrottr…have not tried it though.
SOTD is Bottega Veneta. Perfect for the cooler temps we’ve had these past few days.
I popped into Sephora last week and tried the new Tom Ford Noir, which is robust and intriguing. I went home with a sample. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming review!
Hello, all. Spring-like weather is beginning to happen here and I am starting to wear softer, brighter clothes. I have a silly feeling that I’ve lost weight and gained lightness, as though I could take to the air like a floating thought. I’m grounding myself with Epic. The rose, woods and spices are deep enough to anchor me to the here-and-now, but there’s an airiness that allows a little bit of spring wafting as well.
Anchored, but wafting! That sounds nice…
Nice, yes, but also confused?
Perfume brings out the poet in you, Waterdragon 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
I’ve recently purchased a 30ml bottle of reformulated habanita, & it’s very powdery on me, I was hoping to get more vetiver, I might try layering it with Encre noir, another recent blind buy, which i love, or perhaps a leather?..
Order yourself some vetiver essential oil. It is the most delicious stuff and will make your Habanita smell even better.
I’m back in NY after 2+ stressful, hot weeks in LA with my sick mother. Came home to some decants I ordered and a generous package from a kind NSTer. I’m wearing Reminiscence Patchouli from said package and I’m really liking it. Slightly must , earthy patch with a chocolate note reminiscent of Borneo 1834 with a more noticeable patch. Reviews describe it as smelling like hippie patchouli , but I’m not getting that. Nice for this mild day today.
Welcome back!
Thanks! It’s good to be back.
SOTD is Elie Saab EDT. I find this very pretty, never seem to see it mentioned.
Looks like spring here, but it’s still cold. I’m thinking Chamade for today, spring with substance!
Thank you– that will be me tomorrow.
At work now and enjoying my choice!
Dug into the samples, just/cause. Shalimar souffle on one wrist (which I may live to regret if it doesn’t wash off) and Diptyque ofresia on the other, which is light and springy and seems super-elegant if only in comparison.
I am wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie today, and enjoying the cooler weather.
I love the picture you posted, Robin. I hope to visit Portland, Maine one day.
It’s a great town — in spring and summer 🙂
Great picture!
I did not take it so can’t take credit, but agree!
I’m wearing ELdO Putain des Palaces from the new sampler set at Sephora. At first I was in love, thinking this could be a signature scent. Then it got sweaty. Cumin maybe? The drydown is nice but I’m no longer feeling the need for a full bottle. Too bad, I thought I had a winner. I guess that’s what samples are for.
Forgot to mention, I want to live in that photo. What a beautiful choice!
It does look tempting, doesn’t it?
Didn’t know Sephora carries ELDO!
I was surprised too. I stumbled upon it when I was placing an order for something else. I think it’s only online for now, but I’m still impressed that they have it. They are making quite an effort to expand their niche offerings.
I wore Spiced Citrus Vetiver from Sonoma Scent Studio. After the lovely top notes fade, I’m amazed how much it resembles her Cocoa Sandalwood. Happy new year to those who celebrate it!
