Happy Tuesday! If you have a free minute, do tell us your fragrance of the day.
I'm wearing Chanel Cristalle Eau de Toilette.
Reminder: this Friday, 28 August, as the summer winds down, wear a fragrance that says "Summer 2015" to you. (If it's winter where you are, wear a fragrance that says "Winter 2015" to you.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Hey, you smell fabulous! (Should have worn Cristalle EdT today, too…) I forgot about the summer thing, and since they’re super-chilling my office — poor patients, having to get into gowns in this arctic air-conditioning! — I wore Dior Eau Noire.
Yuck. I hate having to drag a cardigan around all summer, but that’s what I do…
I hate being cold in the summer! I have the rest of the year for that. I keep shawls and wraps in my office. Brrrrr!!!!
I gave my husband a mini of Eau Noire and he accidentally poured almost all of it out into his hand for one wear. It was a special occasion at least. Easy come easy go!
No SOTD yet. Hoping to get to Sephora later to test the new Tom Ford Noir for women, the Narciso Rodriguez Absolu and Bvlgari au The Bleu. Website says my local store has them, but sometimes it’s premature.
And Tom Ford Noir Extreme for men in case my hubby might like it. Looks like The Bleu is online only, but maybe Dillard’s or Ulta will have it.
I’m working on a review of the Noir Extreme. It made me smile!
I have not been in the stores in ages, so I need to do that too!
Oh yes, do tell us about the Tom Ford Noir and Narciso Absolu. 🙂 It seems like my Sephora is the last to get new stuff, but I will wait it out! They are so good about samples.
I was surprised that my Sephora had a tester of The Bleu (small Midwestern town.) It was nice.
Hi Sapphire – I want to make sure you saw I awarded you an enabler pin last week! After reading your post about Arquiste 31 and 57 I did an online blind buy for a roller ball of each! I happened to be at the mall yesterday and stopped at J CREW for a sniff. They are both absolutely fabulous and I can’t wait for them to arrive. Thanks you! ????
Wearing Olène today, although the weather is more like early autumn than summer here. Still a great fragrance.
I love Olene! You smell divine! 🙂
Me three 🙂
Slumberhouse Pear&Olive. I am not as impressed as I was the first few times, but I still enjoy it a lot.
I sometimes think I’m the only one that doesn’t love it!
You’re not alone.. it didn’t work for me either.
Me neither. It was a scrubber on my skin, which happens pretty rarely. I may have an issue with pear…
In my favorite Shalimar flanker ode a la vanille
Is it only Tuesday ?? Blah! ????
I feel the same way about Tuesdays…They are poorly disguised Mondays! 😉
THIS!
Ha! I like that.
Kalemat for me again today- love this stuff to bits. Already thinking about getting a BUB before it price/availability/formula changes happen…
I have ‘a few’ 100ml bottles, but somehow that Kalemat bottle seems ginormous in comparison! But I also had a bit of trouble at Dubai airport trying to work out which was which, as there were labels for mens and womens Kalemat, but only the one bottle- the huge flat one. Anyhoo, it was buy one get one free, and i didnt fancy any of the other Arabian Ouds they had, so i have two ginormous bottles! I just still dont know if they are all the same though.. lol
“A few” 😉
Where did you get it? Last time I looked the Amazon store was MIA and whatever the other site was that had it wasn’t shipping to the U.S. Not that I need to spend money on a blind buy…
I got my 100ml off of EBay, but I think you may be able to order directly from Arabian Oud. Their website is very confusing, IMO. The shipping took about two weeks from Kuwait and I had to contact the seller as initial tracking info was not included. He responded very promptly with the number and I was able to track it without a problem. Blind buys are inherently risky and I don’t recommend them. Especially out of country blind buys. But I pay no attention to my own advice and this is one of my most successful blind buys to date. 😉
Maybe you bought mine? I love ambers, but the tobacco note and the honey kind of turned me off, and it always felt like it was wearing me instead of me wearing it. I’ve smelled it on other people, though, and it’s gorgeous.
I had all the these questions for you about this one but got really busy today. So nice to check in and see they’ve all been answered!! Thanks 😀
SOTD is Premier Figuier from a sample. It’s nice, but can’t really compete with PFE or Philosykos.
So agree.
SOTD is AG’s Ninfeo Mio…I know it’s a Spring fragrance but it seemed perfect for today.
You smell fantastic! 🙂
for me it’s a heat of summer fragrance..
ditto on that for Ninfeo Mio
I think it’s perfect for the heat!
Sampling a bunch of stuff as I try to get ahead of my acquisitive urges (a sort of Sisyphean task). So today I have on DSH Kohl Gris, Kenneth Cory La Catrina, Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin, and Portland General Store Professor. Kohl Gris is my favorite of the bunch
Great name! What’s Kohl Gris like?
Spicy, dark but with lighter bits, Exotic but comforting. It’s going on my wishlist
sounds nice!
After yesterdays discussion of sweaty nights and Epic, I was hankering for both. The nights are still really cold, but the Epic craving has been satiated. Many face-down-front-of-shirt moments 🙂
Hahaha, best moments of the day 😉
I had to go to a late meeting and when I got home, I remembered you and your late-night Amouage treats, so sprayed Lyric. It’s gorgeous, and I can imagine how it would be even better on a warm night. Thanks for the tip!
New perfumista salute? Who remembers Molly Ringwald putting her lipstick on from her little cleavage in The Breakfast Club? Now I’m seeing a visual of the head down sniffing technique too lol!
I absolutely remember. Great movie.
Hand in the air!
Doooonnnn’t you…faagedabout me…
“face-down-front-of-shirt moments.” Hee, hee. I try not to have them at work, but sometimes, I forget myself 🙂
Very happy to discover an Amouage stockist in Canberra on the weekend. Sprayed liberally with Epic.
I’ve been mentally preparing for fall recently; I work at a university, and some of the students started a few weeks ago and the rest start in mid-September. So with autumn on the brain, I broke out a cold-weather scent I haven’t worn in months- Chergui. So sweet and radiant and lovely, and since my office is over-air conditioned, it’s not overwhelming despite the temperature outside.
You smell lovely. And I’ll say that in my experience, Chergui isn’t bad in the heat either, as long as you don’t overapply.
I’m sampling some vintage La Rose Jacqueminot EdT from Coty. It’s a gift vial, so I don’t know too much more about this specimen.
So far I feel as though I’m not wearing the same perfume that every single reviewer on the internet has worn.
Hmmm…what is it you are wearing? Your take…
Not knowing anything about your specific sample, I will still offer a little background for La Rose Jacqueminot… this was reportedly the fragrance that Francois Coty dropped a bottle of in a department store, after being told that the store would not carry his fragrances. But women were charmed by the scent and kept asking, “What IS that lovely scent? where can I buy it?” and the store relented.
However, LRJ was discontinued in the 1940s, I understand (Coty is not very good with the history of its fragrances, so if someone has better information on this, please share). It was then rereleased in the mid-1980s as part of the “Chateau Collection,” which included Chypre, LRJ, and Les Muses (an updated version of Muse). I don’t know what LRJ was like originally, but having smelled really-vintage Chypre and Muse as well as the rereleased versions, I can say that the 80s ones were *considerably* different than the older versions, and I suspect that the same is true for LRJ.
(As a side note, if you run across a review of Coty Chypre calling it “powdery,” the reviewer was testing the 80s version. The older stuff is definitely not.)
I have a small bottle of the EdT rerelease La Rose Jacqueminot, and it’s nice stuff if you like rose chypres: plenty of greens with patchouli and oakmoss and amber, with a strong distinctive rose note, some spices (nutmeg and cardamom, I think), and aldehydes up top. The aldehydes are definitely decaying in my mini bottle, but after they burn off it’s a classic big-shouldered 80s style chypre rose.
Wait! I’ve heard this very same story, but with Estee Lauder and Youth Dew! Department stores back then must have been awfully slippery with all that bottle dropping going on!
http://www.essence-quintessence.com/coty-la-rose-jacqueminot/
Well, it’s possible Estee knew of the Coty story. She was a savvy marketer. 🙂
Estee’s spill was at Galleries Lafayette, apparently. Must have been something in the air!
https://books.google.com/books?id=7j8VefeqUk4C&pg=PA197&lpg=PA197&dq=estee+lauder+galeries+lafayette&source=bl&ots=cjCWnebAFn&sig=TSUAEra8HBFV6nA2WHzmOOX_F0k&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CDwQ6AEwA2oVChMIhIidv8LExwIVSHQ-Ch2ZJQhs#v=onepage&q=estee%20lauder%20galeries%20lafayette&f=false
She really did know how to market… and it occurs to me that her market positioning was somewhat similar to Francois Coty’s early strategy: make a good product, package it attractively but not expensively, and price it affordably. I remember reading about Lauder in one of my marketing textbooks at college (but didn’t remember the Youth Dew spillage story).
There was something in the air by the end of their shenanigans. 🙂
Mals, thank you for all that clarification. It is immensely helpful! Do you happen also to know whether the original release included an EdT?
Meredifay, if you know L’Aimant, subtract the shushiest aldehydes, increase the sharp powder sensation in top and heart (some manipulation of violet / ionones?), emphasize the candied rose note throughout, and turn down the volume: that’s what I’m wearing today.
If I really reach for it, I can maybe understand some references to greens or spices. Definitely no red wine, no moss, and only the cleanest, most fractionated patchouli. I could say yes to some light amber, but there aren’t many scents that I couldn’t describe that way.
Many reviews start with something like, “I was expecting a Victorian style soliflor, but instead this scent is so rich/ modern/ other descriptor meant to indicate the opposite of Victorian soliflors.”
Mine will say: I was expecting something dazzlingly ahead of its time, ahead of our time even, but instead this scent is a lovely Victorian style soliflor.
I’d love to hear more takes on this one, if anyone feels like sharing!
You’re very welcome… I do not know about the original scent at all, haven’t come across it. I do know that the 80s CHateau Collection included both EdT and EdP versions of all three scents (why? you got me. shrug), and that several of Coty’s parfum-strength early scents were also produced in EdT from about the late 30’s until… well, whenever they were discontinued, I suppose.
But now I’m wondering if somehow you’ve gotten hold of some really old LRJ! THe rerelease was definitively rose-focused but the rose was sitting on a green chypre base, which seems far too complex for a fragrance of 1903/1906 (whichever date you prefer, I’ve seen both). It’s possible that the original was a lovely rose-violet thing, subdued and Victorian. It’s also possible that the condition of the sample is degraded – although I doubt that the moss & patchouli would have decayed if the florals are still there.
Third possibility is that the sample was mislabeled, of course. The description of what you’ve got actually reminds me a bit of Coty Paris – rose, lilac, violet, heliotrope, but that one had aldehydes as well.
Thank you some more, Mals, for this excellent information and helpful reasoning approach!
Now I’m extra curious about Coty Paris! I suspect the vial is labeled as intended, because the generous bestower of this sample and I had some back-and-forth about LRJ (before I knew from Coty, but still) and Chypre. Maybe I can find some of the correspondence and figure out if she ever mentioned Muse or Les Muses!
Clever strategy!
I love these stories!!
So clever!
Robin, you smell gorgeous! I’m in Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur again (joining the other repeaters here today so far), as the larger decant did in fact arrive yesterday. Love its soft-as-silk leather and violets.
Thank you! I have not tried yours, but obviously should 🙂
Following lovely Hasuujuri, I am wearing Iris Poudre, sprayed liberally! Love this stuff…But it is cold today…tomorrow I will wear something incensy…maybe Copal Azure or Rose Infernalle…or Chergui!
You can’t go wrong!
Ha! I considered repeating with Iris Poudre but opted to try a sample for the 2nd time.
I was in the mood for lavender today, so I have Gris Clair spritzed about my person (and as per usual I cannot smell it), and then I’m sampling a bit of Rose di Siwa on my left wrist and Perles de Lalique on the other.
Have a lovely day!
Forgot to apply any scent until I checked NST… Will remedy that with Eau du Sud shortly! 🙂
Eau de Sud is the perfect summer fragrance!
I’m wearing another of the new to me minis that I got last month. This time up its First by VC&A. This is a win for me. Maybe I need to explore more floral aldehydes.
First is beautiful! Aldehydic florals is one of my favourite genres.
I agree!
Me two:)
You will have a lot of fun exploring this category as there is a lot there! I love classic aldehydes!!
Feeling summer come to a close, I’m in Bond No. 9’s Fire Island today.
Wearing Nez a Nez Immortelle Marilyn. The leather note here makes me think of that new car smell. A little raspberry and some light florals come through, too, after a short period of time.
This is one I’ve been meaning to try.
My husband is at a conference for the next few days so I’m taking the opportunity to do some serious house cleaning :/ I sure wish I could come up with something more fun, but this place is disgusting and when he’s here he helps and gets offended when I re-clean the areas he has already done. He is a very neat and tidy person but his ability to see dirt in corners is severely lacking.
I’m sure the kittens will be uber helpful as they are extra twerpy already today. The kitchen table and counters seem to have a special allure this morning.
I have an almost-headache so I’m keeping my scent fairly low key with a small amount of L’Huere Fougueuse which I have been thinking about since nozknoz mentioned it on Sunday.
🙂 Great choice – I should wear this again, too, while the weather is ideal for it. Treizieme weather will be here all too soon.
Had to wear Carnal Flower after seeing so many people mention it the last few days. Why don’t I wear this more! Can’t stop smelling my wrist. CF is one of the few white florals that seems to meld with my skin – most just seem to sit on my skin. Not that it stops me from wearing them 😉
You smell terrific….CF flower devotee here….love it!
Today I’m wearing Shalimar Parfum Initial, which I bought on a bit of a whim over four years ago. It’s not exactly a go-to scent for me, but I love the dry-down and it always seems to get a lot of compliments from strangers. Is it true that it is being/has been discontinued?
Speaking of whims, I am trying SO hard not to blind buy the new Carven. My birthday is in a few weeks, so hopefully I can hold out until then!
It has been discontinued but online discounters still seem to have it in stock.
I’m wearing Marshmallow by MOR. It smells like candied rose, vanilla, and pepper.
I didn’t know they had a Marshmallow perfume. I used to like the body butter, back in the day when they first started distributing in the U.S. Too bad they discontinued almost all of my favorite products. Their original body milk was a wonderful, very light weight, lightly scented (“milk” scent) lotion. I hoarded a ton of it at the time and the original bar soaps were great too. When I tried some of their more recent stuff I was a bit disappointed. Glad to hear they have kept at least one of the original line alive!
I got it from Dermstore.com. I just checked, and they have whittled their MOR offerings down to one thing — a lip silk. Judging by their web site, I don’t think Nordstrom carries the MOR brand any longer 🙁
I love Marshmallow for my cool weather night shower or bath. I have the whole range of products I think, including the candle. I only use it at night because for years here it’s super-popular, and a really recognisable smell. It was part of MOR’s first range about 10-15yrs ago- Dolce, and there was Lemoncello, Nougat etc, but Marshmallow was the best by far and has been redesigned to be a stand alone range.
Apparently it has a peach note, but now that you mention what you smell I can see that, and im not sure where the peach fits in..
Mmmm … I would love to try a MOR Marshmallow shower gel.
I love Marshmallow by MOR. So effortless and somehow it isn’t TOO sweet. I read it wasn’t actually the marshmallow candy but a marshmallow flower? Didn’t know there was such a thing.
Oh, yeah … I think that people eat marshmallow root. I would love to smell the flower (and the root).
Mallow is an herb, sometimes referred to as marsh mallow (apparently likes damp soil). I’ve never smelled it. Though I’ve seen small plants in garden centers, I don’t know anyone who’s grown it; it’s considered sort of colonial.
So busy these days I feel dizzy! Yesterday I was so insanely busy that during a meeting at 4 pm I panicked thinking I hadn’t done the lunch order yet, but it was already done. Everyone laughed in the meeting because I looked so shocked that I’d forgotten something and then had that blank deer-in-headlights look about me. So confused! That’s what a 3 hour tech call does to you in the morning. Phew!
I hope everyone is doing ok. I’m wearing Journey Woman today – liberally dosing. It’s my pick-me-up for my hectic schedule again today. 🙂
Oy – you poor thing. But you smell lovely! Haven’t smelled Journey Woman in a while but I remember it being nice and osmanthus-y.
Hope you get some down time soon
I’m wearing NV Pichola.. moved it from a dabber to a spray and sprayed away this morning. It’s very coconut-y on me; gorgeous, but I feel like I’ve got other scents that give me this type of scent.. for a lot less money too.
Just put a small order in for a few new samples of sandalwoods I’ve been wanting to try.. yay!
Pichola didn’t work for me at all! Which sandalwood samples did you order?
That’s too bad! It’s a very pretty scent.
So, I ordered the 10 Corso Como and Sonoma Scent Studio’s Cocoa Sandalwood. I realize I have a sample of the other one recommended, Champagne de Bois, and didn’t really like it much.
The Cocoa Sandalwood I’m really excited to try.
Since you posted that about sandalwood I revisited Samsara EDT. I really like it. I seem to remember thinking it was too much much. But maybe that was the EDP. Thanks for the inspiration!
SOTD is Annick Goutal Ce Soir Ou Jamais – I have really enjoyed wearing this and AGs other light roses (I have Quel Amour and Rose Splendide) this summer.
Ce Soir ou Jamais is gorgeous! So deep and rich. It’s nice to have a dark rose choice that is not anchored by patchouli or woods.
I agree. I think its the lack of a heavy base that makes it work so well in warmer weather.
Longing for roses today. Wearing Rose d’Ete and TBS Wild Rose hand cream.
Rose d’ete is a great one. Do you have a bottle? I haven’t taken the plunge yet, but…
I do! It was probably the first niche bottle I bought… half empty now. I only wear it in summer.
Wearing (literally) my last few drops of Strange Invisible Perfumes Narcotic. Bottle is empty now. Sad. SIP has now discontinued Narcotic and the prices have increased so high I will never buy another SIP again….except if I win the lottery then I will buy Epic Gardenia.
Sad!!!
I blind-bought SIP Magazine Street when they were discounting the old packaging, just before prices went up. Fortunately, I love it. Should try more from that line but the prices are not encouraging.
She discontinued many of her best fragrances – and the prices are truly outrageous (and, yes, I understand naturals are more expensive to produce, but, still….)
Magazine Street and Fire and Cream are/were lovely
I’m sampling Grossmith Shem-el-Nessim today. What a beauty! If I didn’t have a large stockpile of L’Heure Bleue I’d buy this in a second. I think it’s the heliotrope and the vanilla/sandalwood base that reminds me of L’HB, with geranium put in place of L’HB’s carnation. I might do a side-by-side comparison this weekend.
I think SeM smells like cousins to L’HB too! It has a nuttiness that is so plush. I had sprung for a large decant of this years ago when I came out…and then it evaporated. I was so sad. It was my first very expensive and important lesson in hording fragrances – I need to wear what I get. It is just a real beauty and I’m sorry that I lost all mine.
I’d love to hear your side by side!
I’m having early flashes for fall – SOTD is Tom Ford Black Orchid Voile de Fleur. I haven’t worn this in a long time. You smell great Robin, and I think that Cristalle may end up being my summer 2015 fragrance.
Love Voile de FLeur.
I am wearing Azzedine Alaia today. It was purchased during my trip to Miami last week. I bought a beautiful full bottle of it as my souvenir. Very pretty bottle and I am enjoying the scent very much.
I checked out some Alaia fashions while I was on my trip. Beautiful stuff, but $$$$$$$ ! The SA told me Alaia fashions never go on sale. It was nice to check out the clothing. I looked, admired, and then moved on.
So AA has an endorsement! I am very curious now.
Ooh! Alaia envy here–is there a boutique in Miami? AA has intrigued me since Denyse over at Grain de Musc reviewed it. I’m waiting for it to spread into wider distribution. Glad you are enjoying AA, and that you were able to check out the clothes. It makes a great scent memory for your trip!
Chanel Beige.
Say no more 😉
Lol! 😀
Wearing Arquiste L’Etrog today and really enjoying it.
I caved and bought a fb in June. It makes me happy whenever I wear it.
Might as well be fall today. TM Alien original. I wear it year around, but love it more when the weather is cool.
Just putting on scent as I had a doctor’s appointment this morning; trying the Clinique version of Calyx since I just got a mini with purchase. Unfortunately the sprayer is somewhat busted.
Was running late this morning so put on Dioressimo from my emergency backup perfume stash at work.
Hi, everyone. Late night, bad night, horrible beginning to the day — one the the purrs, Isabel most likely, had thrown up on the tiles in the hall to the bathroom, and when I staggered out to make some tea, I trod in it, barefooted. Yyyyycccchhhh!!! My husband’s feeling off colour and is managing a particularly assertive form of grumpiness, considering that he’s a gentle, mild-mannered person; the fridge is making an ominously expensive noise and the dishwasher is telling me that the flood switch (What?) is broken. Honestly, if I weren’t 63 years old and often quite sensible, I would say that I want my mother! What to do in the face of these minor domestic crises? Umm–have a second cup of tea and wear my red boots and Samsara, I think.
NST everywhere, hope your days are smoother than the start of mine!
Oh my! I hope your red boots and Samsara are helping! Hang in there!!
Red boots and Samsara! Waterdragon you are inspiratinally fabulous! Wishing you a better day.
It’s just one of those days I suppose, where all you want is to curl up and hide somewhere.
Hope it gets better for you!
Wow. Hope your day gets better. Wearing red boots is like wearing armor.
I’ve had that day before and I admire you for facing it with fierce scent and hot boots! It is so tempting to just crawl back in bed when grumpy husbands and cat puke rear their ugly heads.
Oh, the cat-vomit-between-the toes… As I sit here sniffing a bit of Samsara EDT myself, it seems it might be an answer to a day that got off on the wrong foot.
Wrong foot – made me giggle. 🙂
Vetiver Tonka for me today. 2015 has really been The Summer of Vetiver for me. I can’t seem to get enough of the stuff. I like it in the fall too so may turn into The Autumn of Vetiver as well…
Yep, I can totally empathize. I have been really wanting to dive into the vetiver pool head first in the past few months. If I wasn’t on “keep it on a tight rein” right now, I would be ordering a TON of vetiver samples.
VT is great! Vetiver works so well in the heat. I have a decant of the Tauerville Petitgrain & Vetiver and I am fiercely telling myself I don’t need a FB…but really want one. I haven’t worn Vetiver Tonka in a bit; I’ll cheer myself with that 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion!
Wearing L’Artisan’s Séville à l’Aube. It’s gorgeous in summer!
So I got to test several things at Sephora today.
Bvlgari The Bleu (they actually did have it)–light, airy lavender–very pretty (only sniffed on paper), seems unisex. Probably going back for another sniff.
Narciso for her l’absolu-nondescript floral. Meh.
Tom Ford Noir Extreme for men–starts with a blast of black pepper, settling down to incense and tobacco notes. Pretty good. Got a sample for the hubby.
Tom Ford Noir for women–Hubba. Hubba. Gorgeous oriental floral with tobacco notes. Got a sample and almost bought it on the spot. Seriously considering going back and buying it later in the week.
Guerlain Shalimar Souffle de Parfum–smells nothing like Shalimar. Light, soft, citrus-y floral. Actually pretty pleasant. Dillard’s had the LE bottle from yesterday’s post (serious bottle porn). Might look for it at an online discounter sometime.
Actually, the Souffle de Parfum reminds me of BBW White Cotton and Lemonade, which I got this summer as kind of a cheap thrill, so will save some money on the Guerlain.
hmm, not usually my kind of thing, but am intrigued by Noir pour Femme’s kulfi note.
L’Aromatica makes a Kulfi perfume, and they sell samples 🙂 I purchased several L’Aromatica samples — Kulfi, Madcap Violet, and Big Sur — from Sweet Anthem a while ago, but I have not tried them yet.
http://www.laromaticaperfume.com/
The Guerlain astounded me, and not in a good way. Money saved! I will have to seek out the TF Noir for women, that sounds like it would really ring my bell.
I sniffed the cap of the TF Noir femme today. Smelled similar to the men’s Noir Extreme. Also sprayed the Guerlain on and it didn’t agree with me.
I think the Noirs are pretty similar, but the women’s is softer and a lot less peppery (that said, I could see a guy smelling great in it).
Oh, have also smelled Chance Eau Vive recently. A little bitter at the start from the grapefruit, but dries down nicely to the vetiver and musk.
Awesome! I’m now very excited about TF Noir for women. Also I totally bought BBW White Cotton and Lemonade this summer, too!!! It’s really not bad.
The BBW is good in the hot weather. I actually like the Souffle a bit more, having had it on for awhile now. It doesn’t have the laundry note. 🙂
I went with Bulgari Jasmin Noir today.
MH L’air de Rien after Robin’s note about the new MH yesterday. Love this stuff. It makes me think I’m anosmic to some musks; everyone complains about barnyard notes in the blogs. I get the advertised forgotten drawer with tobacco, paper, vanilla and light musk. It’s very sweet on my skin in the distant dry down. I think I’d like a candle of this. Be well.
Have never ordered from OZ Cosmetics, but they do seem to carry quite a few MH items (not just frags).
SOTD = LM Sensual Orchid
From a sample from OsswaldNYC. Unless I am anosmic to something in it, I think I have to spray more than 3 spritzes. It was nice when I can smell it (first 2 hours of wear) and then poof. I’ve smelled it on someone else and it was gorgeous though I think it’s the combo of Sensual Ordhid and Puredistance White that smelled super nice.
I started out early in Shalimar EDP which was gone by the day’s end so I popped into Macy’s on the way home. Tested JM Mimosa and Cardamom. Nice, mild, almost creamy mimosa. Spice was not very prominent. Smelled a bit like a cold cream in the dry down. Didn’t rick my world, though. Also tested TF Noir de Noir-dark rosy thumbs up. And Shalimar Souffle dP. Meh. Smelled like it was trying to be too many things: fresh, aquatic, citrus, vanillic floral.
Everytime I see the word aquatic in a perfume blog, I cringe. I look forward to trying Mimosa & Cardamom being that I am a JM fan-girl.
I’m guessing you’ll like it. I took out my little sample vial of Iris Poudre body butter and did a comparison sniff. The JM had a similar quality/texture to me(although not the same smell). Very office friendly, not sure about family friendly 😉
Well that’s a bummer about the Shalimar! Haha, I agree that a fresh aquatic citrus vanillic floral is trying too hard to please everyone. I’m getting antsy to try all these new releases!
Today I am wearing Guerlain Nahema. Such a beautiful rose scent. Vintage of course.
