Tuesday scent of the day 8/11

Posted by Robin on 11 August 2015 211 Comments

Electric Wood brand image

Happy Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing today?

I'm trying out Electric Wood by Room 1015.

Reminder: this Friday, 8/14, we're doing Fools Rush In...wear a perfume you bought within 5 minutes of smelling it. Bonus points if you ended up loving it! If you've never done anything so foolish, then wear the fragrance you bought the soonest after trying it.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I just put on Cococabana (thanks Austenfan!). I was expecting coconut but it also has a big pineapple note!

Is this the PDN? I like the sound of pineapple. Wish I’d bought Anais Fizz while it was still around.

Apparently I’m still on Spanish time- I’ve been up since 3:50. I smell like French roast and an impending nap ;)

The MUA Fragrance board posted a $20 off coupon for Luckyscent last week (N/A- let me know whether it’s okay to post, Robin), reigniting my internal debate over Decennial Bois Bourbon. So… tempting…

I’m in the Estonian countryside and not wearing anything at the moment, but I plan to wear Blackberry and Bay later. It’s one of my favourite scents for late summer/early autumn, especially when I spend lots of time outdoors. It’s lovely here and I’m in excellent mood and want to hug you all!

I also feel like fall is just around the corner. We’ve begun to have some very chilly nights. It’s just that thing in the air – the other evening I put on a small spray of Organza Indecence for bedtime. I even saw a flock of Canada Geese land on a lake nearby. I think its kind of early to see them coming by!

But it’s Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur, and it’s light and beautiful, and I don’t think anyone at the office will be offended, or even be able to smell it unless they get way too close.

To me, it’s soft and smells a little like salt and dry soil. I usually like the idea of musk more than I like its actual smell (mostly because it often makes my throat feel scratchy), but I’d be pretty satisfied if this were my skin’s natural scent.

I’m dead tired today. Our work office was moved over the weekend and yesterday I was pulled in 30 directions as we settled in for the first work day. I blinked and the day was over I was so busy. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much sleep last night so I’m working on a double-shot coffee this morning and hefty doses of Opus I by Amouage. It’s a bit heavy for this time of year (I think), but the AC in this building is so powerful it feels arctic in here. People have the windows open to counter the AC chill effect. Under my pinky-nude nail polish my hands are purple!

Still, it’s nice being in a huge office – even if it took my personal blood, sweat and tears for four months to get us sorted in it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

I hate over-powerful AC. I have that trouble in my library & office during the summer. I keep a selection of wraps and shawls in my desk for myself and anyone else who needs one. Good luck with getting your rest and adjusting to your new space.

very happily wearing a big spritz of L’ombre dans l’eau edp from my brand new 75ml bottle i’ve just recieved from an ebay seller.
It was a wonderful bargain at under £50! i was slightly worried as the seller has only 94% positive feedback but the gamble paid off.
This is definitely in my top 10, i love Blackberry & Bay too, but i think they’re very similar, so will be content with this perfume.

Someone mentioned Safran Troublant recently, and Ive been neglecting my usual winter staples this year, so ST it is. It didnt feel quite right, as much as I love it, but I’d to get to spring and warmer weather and be craving all those autumn and winter scents that never got a look in :-( I dont think ive worn Organza Indecence once this winter and it’s usually a staple! Hmmm. Maybe its the weather and not me at all?! Lol

Last year, I’d have been right with you in summer scents during winter, Perthgirl, but not this time round. It seems to me that Australasia is having a colder than usual winter, and I started off delighting in the chill because this the first time in my life I’ve ever felt the cold. I bought cashmere fabrics and warm coats in jewel colours, and I’ve been wearing bright scarves and merino jumpers, and all the scents to match, deep and rich and enveloping, or sweet and warming. Loved it for the novelty! Now, though, I want to see if I still have some skin under all these layers, and I want to waft around airily in greens and florals and silk and cotton.

Totally agree, this has been a terrible winter in NZ, and Australia too, it seems, although when I read what the winters are like for some NSTers I think they’d fall about laughing at my complaints! We don’t get weather extremes like some places, and I can’t imagine I’d ever have a complaint about being too hot in summer where I live.
Haven’t decided on a perfume yet, just finishing breakfast, but it won’t be anything cool and green.

I’m sampling Iniezione di Morfina from a sample I got from Twisted Lily. I was very surprised to receive 3 free samples from them alongside the 5 I bought, and the packaging is incredible!
Anyway, so far I’m getting a lot of powder that’s reminiscent of Heliotrope Blanc, and the sillage is kinda low. I’m sticking my nose onto my wrist and doing the allergic salute which sometimes happens to me with powdery scents. I will be brave and persevere, though! :)

Last night we saw the documentary “Iris,” about Iris Apfel. It was very good and while my wardrobe is quite boring, I am channeling my inner Iris by wearing a blast of Silences, weather be damned, and some deep pink Dior lipstick! Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Hi, scent twin! Joining you in Jacomo Silences today, too, but my choice was prompted by its lengthy discussion a few days ago. I have the pdt version, a relaxing walk in a cool, green forest. I like this in the spring but it makes a nice change from my summer scents. I get more chypre from this than I do floral green.

I’m wearing another citrus aromatic fragrance, Mandarine Glaciale. For me these scents are the only thing I can stand when we are having temperatures of 100 + degrees. This has been a trying summer. Last year and the year before we had very few 100 + degree days. This year it’s only rained once since June, and it has been super hot. Sometimes I hate Texas.

Mandarine Glaciale is perfect for the miserable hot weather! I especially love that kick of ginger in the opening. I’ve tried a bunch of Atelier Cologne scents, but this one if the only one I find myself craving.

    Hey guys..

It is still thought that I have a labral tear, I have a hip
mri scheduled with contrast…which I hear are pretty painful cause they inject the dye right in the hip joint. I have all the symptoms for a tear. The other morning, my thigh tendon suddenly popped like crazy and popped out of place. I couldn’t straighten my leg..I immediately stood up, still not being able to straighten my leg..tried to walk on it-couldn’t, really painful, couldn’t straighten..and tried to shake it out..it finally went back into place but feels like it could pop out again at any time.

That night..I had level 10 pain in my groin(not the first time) but this time it was probably I am guessing, inflammation due to the tendon pop…and most likely a tear. Pain the past month has been almost unbearable…I had no idea pain could even get to a level so severe.

Pain all around my hip, front and back have been so bad…what’s so sad is that this was from a way too forceful manipulation..not of my own doing. Some ppl say I need to get though this..if only to go after malpractice…but I don’t care about compensation..my life may very well never be the same..

I am unable to do a lot of things..I have been extremely depressed..not feeling hopeful at all. It’s really a bleak and isolating injury..I just got married in ’10..so…it’s extremely sad to me.

I may not ck in for a while…idk..but do stay fragrant and lovely..as you guys always are.

    Much love xoxo

yikes, Omega—had a labral tear in ’07, but not nearly as severe as yours. If really serious, you may want to consider a consultation at NYC’s Hosp for Special Surgery. Promised myself I’d go there if circumstances merited it.

nope, didn’t have surgery. Now I have to be careful not to walk on an incline for too long, or take too many stairs at once, else it’ll aggravate my hip. NY is a plane ride away for me too, but that place has a good rep & probably fixes more hip labral tears than other hosps.

Oh gosh, I know what you’re going through, a family member had a labral tear in the hip, and it was extremely painful and depression-inducing BUT said family member did recover. Rehab took longer than the surgeon promised (…wish they would just be honest about the range of possibilities!) but don’t despair, I really don’t think it’s necessarily a “you’ll never be the same again” kind of injury. I know it sucks so much right now tho–I’m so sorry! Hoping this moves toward successful treatment very swiftly!

So your family member had surgery? Curious where it was performed? The closest place I can think of for me would be Stanford..which is several hours from me…but hear they don’t even specialize in it..it’s shop depressing.

Surgery is pretty risky and downtime/recovery time is usually a year. My knee is ready messing up from being out of whack and my other side is having pain for compensating.

Slowly recovering from my cold, I have more energy, and I can talk, but the nose is still congested enough that my sniffer only works intermittently. I put on Un Fille de Berlin, this morning, and I could smell it for a while, but now I can’t smell it at all. I had a piece of rye toast a while ago with butter and garlic salt on it (gotta keep the vampires away) and I could smell that…I’m sure I’ll be able to smell the perfume later, I sort of overapplied. :-)

Current Jolie Madame. It felt like winning the lotto to find the old bottle I had, which was already very old when I wore it in my wedding, lying at the back of my closet when we moved. But still, even being able to compare them side by side, I find the current version very nice and classy. I see it as Eau de Jolie Madame. 31 rue Cambon classy, and a bargain of sorts.

Not that I’ve seen but if anyone knows differently please let me know! I’m seriously thinking a split. But I’ve never done that before. I have dropped a small fortune on perfume over the past 2-3 years & I’ve recently taken stock of all my FBs & realized that there’s just too too many & that I’ll never get through them all. I think I’m gonna definitely do the freebiemeet cuz I don’t even like some of them anymore! I’m talking about big dollar, niche perfumes too; mostly purchased from Luckyscent (they must have a complete FBI-worthy dossier on me by now!) I need to share them with people who will appreciate them before they go rancid or else I’ll cry over the waste of beauty & money! My greatest appreciation is for FM for making those 10 mL travel sprays! As much as I love Carnal Flower I just have too much perfume to ever get through to justify the price of a full 50 mLs.

Good morning, one and all. Wednesday, but it feels like Monday. I’m beginning to think the surgeon knew something sensible when he told me to take pain meds every four hours. I haven’t been, and I am inching towards the conclusion that he was right and I was wrong. Heavy sigh–why do I think I know best when it’s not my field?

Brightening up: I ate some yoghurt in the night. Yummy! And I sprayed myself with Rahat Loukoum, a warm sweet presence to keep me company in my sleepless night, so that’s my scent of this cold and still quite early morning.

For a long time I gave Roja a Spanish pronunciation and was subliminally annoyed by the mix of languages, but I had jumped to the wrong conclusion. Later, I read that it’s his real name, Roger, as one of his family members used to pronounced. Videos indicate that he pronounces it like “rahjah,” approximately. I have to admit that I wouldn’t be tempted by a perfume named Roger. ;-)

!!! to so many of the above points of information! Cripes that is an eye-popping price. So what does it smell like?! I guess at $11/ml, this is one where it really is a bargain that I could try it for just the price of gasoline to drive to Neiman’s! (Lol, I just checked STC–$30 for a 1ml sample!! So, gas plus an overpriced lunch while I’m at the expensive mall :) )

And meanwhile, I’ve fully been saying Roja wrong until right now, so thanks so much for the correction–now when I go try the perfume I can’t remotely afford, at least I won’t also mispronounce its name! ;)

It reminds me of Amouage Beloved, but even more chypreed, and made with even more of the real, old, high quality ingredients that are no longer found in modern perfume. It also reminds me a bit of some of the old chypres like Balenciaga Cialenga and some of the leathery golden oldies like Guerlain Djedi, but Diaghilev is more over the top.

There was a super exhibit at the National Gallery in DC in 2013 on Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes, and I’d say this is a perfume lives up to the name.

me too, nozknoz, was saying row-ha in my head. Must admit I’m put off by the line’s overly blingy bottles (not to mention the retail prices). That said, wouldn’t mind trying a few the next time I’m at Bergdorfs.

Ditto me on the mental pronunciation of his name. Who knew? But this is a line that I try and just ignore b/c unless I hit the lottery, it’s not going to happen. I won’t even let myself test them. Why be totally miserable with wanting something so $$$? I’m still lemming for a bottle of Amouage Beloved……

Not to make matters worse but did you notice that FragranceNet currently has a tester? $169, and free shipping… (Should say, that’s still a good chunk of change, to me at least!, but relative to MSRP!)

I went a little bit nuts over that for a minute. Then I realized it must have been Beloved and not Diaghilev on FragranceNet. Like AnnS with Roja Dove commercial monstrosities, I’m safe around Beloved because I’ve never tried it.

I am also a big reluctant fan. I occasionally go unscented to the shops with tester bottles for the express purpose of wearing Diaghilev, the only way I ever will. Even a split is off the table, financially. Really not my kind of bottle either, but can you do anything but More More when asking for that price?

If I lived near a shop with Diaghilev, I’d do the same! Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

SOTD is Carven L’eau de Toilette. I have Le Parfum and love it so much that I picked up the L’eau. It’s sheer and more citrusy, but not bad at all for summer.

Hi all. I’m wearing Creed Royal Mayfair, and love its rose, lime and eucalyptus. Very refreshing on a 100+F day here. My big question is whether this reads as masculine to others or unisex. I think it may be a teensy toe over the masculine line for me, and I can’t pinpoint why. Anyone else tried this, or the original Windsor? What say ye? Stay cool :D

Hey Everyone, it’s now near the end of Day One at Saint Petersburg. We just got done with a private evening at The Hermitage and we only saw a teeny tiny fraction of the over 3 million pieces of art. See, no one should ever complain of the size of their perfume collection.

Anyway, I may have been too easy on my steps goal (or perhaps I’m just an overachiever or both). Including today’s steps, I am now up to a little over 111,000 steps. As such, I am sure I’ll meet the first goal of 120,000 steps. To make it more of a challenge to double the perfume budget, my new next goal will be 175,000 steps (instead of 150,000) so feets, don’t fail me now.

    Have a great week everyone!

I’m wearing Bulgari Jasmin Noir today. Picked it up at Marshall’s. They had Jasmin Noir and Mon Jasmin Noir, and I knew I had had a sample of one and liked it, but couldn’t remember which one. So I took a chance. I think I got the right one, though. When I was at Sephora over the weekend, I saw that they now have a travel spray of Mon Jasmin Noir, so I took a spritz from the tester, and I didn’t like it as much as the one I got (and for a better deal anyway).

Also got a sample of the new Eau Parfumee au Thé Bleu. So far I’m not sure I like it. I get more violet leaf than I’d like, and I don’t know that I pick up anything I’d recognize as iris, but after the violet leaf note fades a bit, I feel better about it. I don’t know.. I haven’t really given it a full wearing yet.

SOTD Songes body oil with a bit of sandlewood EO adds a nice earthy buzz for this not-too-hot rainy day.

Do you dilute your EO in a carrier oil or spot apply them full strength? I’m always curious about how folks use EO’s…

I would have diluted it but my jojoba oil smelled kind of rancid. The sandlewood is pretty potent. I just applied specks on my arm and diluted it with the body oil which worked out pretty well. I can still smell the sandlewood but the Songes is pretty much faded.

If you feel like continuing your experiments, mixing some of your Songes oil with some of your sandalwood EO and letting it sit a while might be worth a try. I’m guessing the sandalwood would help ‘fix’ the scent of the Songes somewhat, so you’d get a more gradual transition out of the Songes ‘top’ of your one-of-a-kind fragrance.

Hm, maybe it’s called Dreamy Sandles? Like candles with sand, or sand in your handles… the marketing department may have some feedback on this title.

Ha! It might be more fun just coming up with names. I like the combo, so maybe I’ll try that method and see what happens. It’s really a handy EO to have because of all the layering possibilities.
