Happy Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing today?
I'm trying out Electric Wood by Room 1015.
Reminder: this Friday, 8/14, we're doing Fools Rush In...wear a perfume you bought within 5 minutes of smelling it. Bonus points if you ended up loving it! If you've never done anything so foolish, then wear the fragrance you bought the soonest after trying it.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image via the Room 1015 website.
I just put on Cococabana (thanks Austenfan!). I was expecting coconut but it also has a big pineapple note!
Is this the PDN? I like the sound of pineapple. Wish I’d bought Anais Fizz while it was still around.
Yes! I think this one is hard to find too now, unfortunately.
I’ll have to go look for the pineapple, never noticed it before.
I noticed it especially as a topnote — very pina colada!
Well you see, I’ve never had a pina colada in my life!
That sounds less like a problem and more like an opportunity to me!! ๐
Ooo- I love pineapple! It’s my favourite fruit to eat AND smell but I’ve never smelled it in a perfume before!
Apparently I’m still on Spanish time- I’ve been up since 3:50. I smell like French roast and an impending nap ๐
The MUA Fragrance board posted a $20 off coupon for Luckyscent last week (N/A- let me know whether it’s okay to post, Robin), reigniting my internal debate over Decennial Bois Bourbon. So… tempting…
Of course ok to post, please do! And enjoy the nap.
Nap with the kitteh!
The kitteh decides when we nap together- I have no say in the matter!
Ooo- is the coupon still available? I drop a small fortune on that place; I could totally use that $20 coupon!
Code is FFFlove, $20 off of purchases over $100, through the 16th. Please don’t use it to buy the last Bois Bourbon!!
Thanks!!
I promise I won’t! I’m thinking either TDC Aurore Nomade or Bogue Profumo Maai… I dunno! I think the TDC will win out.
I’m wearing Divine’s L’Inspiratrice. It’s lovely and understated, at least to me it is.
Such a great brand, although the men’s offerings suit me better than the women’s.
SOTD is Vetiver Geranium (Creed)
I have recently fallen hard for this one! And I’m not a Creed fan. Just happened to sniff a sample, so I guess it’s fate:)
I’m in the Estonian countryside and not wearing anything at the moment, but I plan to wear Blackberry and Bay later. It’s one of my favourite scents for late summer/early autumn, especially when I spend lots of time outdoors. It’s lovely here and I’m in excellent mood and want to hug you all!
Oh, that sounds lovely- both the countryside and the scent ๐
You are so sweet. Hugging you right back!
Sounds very idyllic. Glad you’re enjoying and leaving the stress behind. Hugs back ๐
That sounds lovely. And Blackberry and Bay is so nice.
Hugs back to you!
It sounds very romantic and lovely. Cheers & hugs!
Estonia is doing you good! Hugs back!
Ooh yes hugs back–thanks for sharing that with us, it sounds amazing!
My Internet connection is shaky, so it’s difficult to reply to you all individually. But thank you very much!
Sounds like you are having a wonderful time! Hugs to you too ๐
AG Un Matin d’Orage. Not sure I love the aquatic note at the beginning, but we’ll see how it develops.
That was an “almost love” for me…
I’m liking it more now that it’s settled a bit. I’m getting more gardenia. Didn’t like the start though. Not a fan of aquatic notes!
Same here.
I had a hard time finding any gardenia & as the good Lord knows, gardenia is my Holy Grail.
I liked the fresh snapped twig part of UMdO, but I didn’t care for the ozone accord. But it was a great effort at a very earthy, natural effect. Definitely abstract.
It took me a few wearings of Un matin d’Orage before it was love. And now it is!
I am going to do “fools rush in ” all week !!!
In Shalimar (the vanilla flanker)
I could have done a week’s worth too, I’m sure, if only I could remember them all! My memory is too kind, LOL…
Lol!
Haha, I too have some scents that I did not blind buy but feel I might as well have!
How do you like he vanilla flanker? Is it Mexique, Madagascar, or just plain Route de Vanille?
Ode a la vanille flanker-
I do love it. Great for this rainy day
Ah yes, that’s it…I can’t keep all these flankers straight! It sounds cozy and perfect for a gloomy day!
Envoyage Fiore de Bellagio is my sample of the day– bright beautiful carnation happiness
HVAC guys back again today…all the ’70’s ductwork in the attic has to be replaced. Will be ecstatic if a/c’s restored this week. Doubt I’ll be purchasing any frags for the rest of the year! Eau Premiere again today.
Good luck with the AC getting fixed! At least you smell wonderful ๐
Ugh, sorry!! But a/c beats perfume, of course.
Oh dear. Hope it’s fixed soon.
Eau Premiere is an excellent frag to help with bad news. House expenses have interfered with my frag spending the past few years….
Infusion d’Iris for professional no-nonsensery today. Sometimes you just need it.
It has been a great week to wear Iris, and IdI is very no-nonsensery ๐
SOTD is about ten thousand spritzes of Guerlain Vetiver. I needed something bracing and this should do the trick.
I may have over-applied ๐
Ten thousand spritzes sounds pretty good to me! You smell fabulous!
Can you over apply Guerlain Vetiver, lol!?! ๐ It is definitely grounding and mood lifting. Aromatherapy in a bottle.
Cool and rainy today, starting to feel like fall is around the corner so I put on TF Tobacco Vanille and a flannel shirt ๐
Electric Wood sounds really fun and interesting!
Beautiful cat!
I also feel like fall is just around the corner. We’ve begun to have some very chilly nights. It’s just that thing in the air – the other evening I put on a small spray of Organza Indecence for bedtime. I even saw a flock of Canada Geese land on a lake nearby. I think its kind of early to see them coming by!
Ooh, so jealous! I love flannel and fall weather. You smell fabulous, too!
PSA for sky watchers: According to NASA, the 2015 Perseid meteor shower is here, and the Moon will be dark when it peaks. http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2015/11aug_perseids/
Robin, have you tried Room 2015’s Blomma Cult? If so, what did you think of it?
My SOTD is Highland Lilac of Rochester.
Thanks for the tip! We’ll have some clear skies in the next few days.
Not yet, but will this week!
I did something I’ve never dared before – sprayed unsniffed from a sample that arrived just yesterday, on a work day (eek!). But it’s Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur, and it’s light and beautiful, and I don’t think anyone at the office will be offended, or even be able to smell it unless they get way too close.
Kudos for bravery!!! Glad it worked out!
I like this concept: fragrance as delineator of personal space. “If you can smell me, you’re too close.” ๐
So do I! I think Kiwis like more personal space than most, and you’ve come up with a brilliant gauge! I shall implement it forthwith.
AG Musc Nomade. I went through the entire range of emotion on this, but I’ve come to the conclusion that I think I really like this.
This one’s on my next sample order list. What’s your impression of it?
To me, it’s soft and smells a little like salt and dry soil. I usually like the idea of musk more than I like its actual smell (mostly because it often makes my throat feel scratchy), but I’d be pretty satisfied if this were my skin’s natural scent.
Thanks for the description! I will definitely try it out.
Wearing Juicy Couture I AM JUICY layered over Jimmy Choo body lotion today.
A bold and cheerful combo!
Thanks! I use a lot of scented lotions. Sometimes I have to mix and match.
I’m dead tired today. Our work office was moved over the weekend and yesterday I was pulled in 30 directions as we settled in for the first work day. I blinked and the day was over I was so busy. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much sleep last night so I’m working on a double-shot coffee this morning and hefty doses of Opus I by Amouage. It’s a bit heavy for this time of year (I think), but the AC in this building is so powerful it feels arctic in here. People have the windows open to counter the AC chill effect. Under my pinky-nude nail polish my hands are purple!
Still, it’s nice being in a huge office – even if it took my personal blood, sweat and tears for four months to get us sorted in it.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I hate over-powerful AC. I have that trouble in my library & office during the summer. I keep a selection of wraps and shawls in my desk for myself and anyone else who needs one. Good luck with getting your rest and adjusting to your new space.
Thanks AnnS. I found out we are getting a different AC system that will allow us to have a proper thermostat so hopefully we will have more options besides Antarctica and Sahara ๐
Your office has windows that open? Lucky you! And here’s wishing you a speedy recovery from the moving.
Yes, our office building is old, so some of the windows open (although they don’t have screen so we have to be careful about flies/bees).
Thanks ๐
Chanel No 19 is my SOTD.
I just received a heat advisory on my iphone. It lasts until 7 o’clock tonight. I guess we are officially in the dog days of summmer !!
Ugh. But sounds like you picked an excellent scent for the weather.
Oh, No 19 – so gorgeous! So perfect! It’s like putting on a crisp white shirt when everyone else is rumpled.
Perfect description of No 19! It literally seems to elevate you above everyone else around you.
No 19 will help get you through. Be generous, and as AnnS says, you will be cool and collected…
Dior Feve Delicieuse which I am liking more after several wears–I am getting more anise and smoke than my first couple of tries. Still not fb or even decant, but not the total meh I first thought.
My SOTD is the lovely Jasmin Rouge by Tom Ford. I think this was the first TF fragrance I sampled and liked a lot. I have branched out and tried a lot of other TF fragrances, but this is the one that fueled my appreciation to this line. Have a “Terrific Tuesday” everyone!
Jasmine Rouge is one of my favs from the Tom Ford line. I have a small decant and I treasure it.
It is very lovely! ๐
very happily wearing a big spritz of L’ombre dans l’eau edp from my brand new 75ml bottle i’ve just recieved from an ebay seller.
It was a wonderful bargain at under ยฃ50! i was slightly worried as the seller has only 94% positive feedback but the gamble paid off.
This is definitely in my top 10, i love Blackberry & Bay too, but i think they’re very similar, so will be content with this perfume.
Someone mentioned Safran Troublant recently, and Ive been neglecting my usual winter staples this year, so ST it is. It didnt feel quite right, as much as I love it, but I’d to get to spring and warmer weather and be craving all those autumn and winter scents that never got a look in ๐ I dont think ive worn Organza Indecence once this winter and it’s usually a staple! Hmmm. Maybe its the weather and not me at all?! Lol
Last winter I was craving greens more than spices! Funny how that goes. But just the other day here in our last few weeks of summer, I began to crave my spices. I put on some OI for bed the other evening.
Last year, I’d have been right with you in summer scents during winter, Perthgirl, but not this time round. It seems to me that Australasia is having a colder than usual winter, and I started off delighting in the chill because this the first time in my life I’ve ever felt the cold. I bought cashmere fabrics and warm coats in jewel colours, and I’ve been wearing bright scarves and merino jumpers, and all the scents to match, deep and rich and enveloping, or sweet and warming. Loved it for the novelty! Now, though, I want to see if I still have some skin under all these layers, and I want to waft around airily in greens and florals and silk and cotton.
Totally agree, this has been a terrible winter in NZ, and Australia too, it seems, although when I read what the winters are like for some NSTers I think they’d fall about laughing at my complaints! We don’t get weather extremes like some places, and I can’t imagine I’d ever have a complaint about being too hot in summer where I live.
Haven’t decided on a perfume yet, just finishing breakfast, but it won’t be anything cool and green.
I’m sampling Iniezione di Morfina from a sample I got from Twisted Lily. I was very surprised to receive 3 free samples from them alongside the 5 I bought, and the packaging is incredible!
Anyway, so far I’m getting a lot of powder that’s reminiscent of Heliotrope Blanc, and the sillage is kinda low. I’m sticking my nose onto my wrist and doing the allergic salute which sometimes happens to me with powdery scents. I will be brave and persevere, though! ๐
Last night we saw the documentary “Iris,” about Iris Apfel. It was very good and while my wardrobe is quite boring, I am channeling my inner Iris by wearing a blast of Silences, weather be damned, and some deep pink Dior lipstick! Happy Tuesday, everyone!
I loved “Iris” too, and my first comment coming out of the theater was “Well, gee, I feel drab!” I felt inspired to start channeling my own inner Iris as well. ๐
????
That sounds so inspiring! I try to focus on colorful scarfs when I feel doudy. But some bright lipstick will do the trick too.
Bright lipstick and sunglasses- fastest way to fabulous.
Hi, scent twin! Joining you in Jacomo Silences today, too, but my choice was prompted by its lengthy discussion a few days ago. I have the pdt version, a relaxing walk in a cool, green forest. I like this in the spring but it makes a nice change from my summer scents. I get more chypre from this than I do floral green.
I love this; have you tried Shiseido Murasaki? It fits in the same category IMHO and is also gorgeous.
Oh thanks for the Iris rec!! I’ll have to make a point to get to it.
It’s by the same filmmakers that made “Gray Gardens;” another inspiration for workin’ what you’ve got into a look!
Yay for deep pink lipstick! I have not smelled Silences, but it sounds right up my alley.
Its beautiful and not very expensive – gotta love that!
If y’all liked Iris, I also recommend a documentary called Advanced Style(it’s on Netflix) It’s about aging and style. Some really endearing characters in that one, one of whom I met in the bus about a month ago.
I’m wearing another citrus aromatic fragrance, Mandarine Glaciale. For me these scents are the only thing I can stand when we are having temperatures of 100 + degrees. This has been a trying summer. Last year and the year before we had very few 100 + degree days. This year it’s only rained once since June, and it has been super hot. Sometimes I hate Texas.
Mandarine Glaciale is perfect for the miserable hot weather! I especially love that kick of ginger in the opening. I’ve tried a bunch of Atelier Cologne scents, but this one if the only one I find myself craving.
Ah, memories of my childhood. My daughter has had her first full Texas summer experience working as a camp counselor. She says she’s lost 10 lbs from sweat alone. She wants to go back next summer:)
MY husband and i have got tickets to see the iris Apfel doc in a couple weeks. She seems like such an interesting & fun charecter, i’m looking forward to it even more now, thanks Katrina, i bet u smell & look wonderful! i still haven’t tried silences, & i’m lusting after a new chanel lipstick from the Les Autumnales collection, maybe i shall wear it to see Iris!
Now I have to go check out the new Chanel lipsticks…!
Hey guys..
It is still thought that I have a labral tear, I have a hip
mri scheduled with contrast…which I hear are pretty painful cause they inject the dye right in the hip joint. I have all the symptoms for a tear. The other morning, my thigh tendon suddenly popped like crazy and popped out of place. I couldn’t straighten my leg..I immediately stood up, still not being able to straighten my leg..tried to walk on it-couldn’t, really painful, couldn’t straighten..and tried to shake it out..it finally went back into place but feels like it could pop out again at any time.
That night..I had level 10 pain in my groin(not the first time) but this time it was probably I am guessing, inflammation due to the tendon pop…and most likely a tear. Pain the past month has been almost unbearable…I had no idea pain could even get to a level so severe.
Pain all around my hip, front and back have been so bad…what’s so sad is that this was from a way too forceful manipulation..not of my own doing. Some ppl say I need to get though this..if only to go after malpractice…but I don’t care about compensation..my life may very well never be the same..
I am unable to do a lot of things..I have been extremely depressed..not feeling hopeful at all. It’s really a bleak and isolating injury..I just got married in ’10..so…it’s extremely sad to me.
I may not ck in for a while…idk..but do stay fragrant and lovely..as you guys always are.
Much love xoxo
yikes, Omega—had a labral tear in ’07, but not nearly as severe as yours. If really serious, you may want to consider a consultation at NYC’s Hosp for Special Surgery. Promised myself I’d go there if circumstances merited it.
I heard not that many docs specialize in this surgery…that it is a pretty new procedure..and success rates aren’t very high. Did you have surgery?
And NYC would be a across the country for me.
nope, didn’t have surgery. Now I have to be careful not to walk on an incline for too long, or take too many stairs at once, else it’ll aggravate my hip. NY is a plane ride away for me too, but that place has a good rep & probably fixes more hip labral tears than other hosps.
Ya, I ain’t rich…I guess a loan would have to come into play..it’s very depressing. I looked on the NYC site..they can’t even say much about the surgery or if it can help much. Not promising. I also live up three flights of stairs will need a downstairs apt asap
Wishing you well Omega, it sounds awful.
Just yesterday I was wondering how you were doing. Don’t stay away too long, we worry about you.
Ditto
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this. I think of you as I am getting ready to go to my PT appt. While I haven’t had any tears and am not in the same level of pain as you, my back is not improving and I’m getting a bit discouraged and stressed. My husband has been trying to get me to be more optimistic, that it will improve, and count my blessings, yada yada, but it is so hard. Please know we are all pulling for you during this hard time.
I do have a small herniation of a couple of lumbar discs…that occurred before the hip tear by that lady…things were getting better was doing pt all the time..but this has royally messed me up. I don’t even know how I am getting thru this..I am not really I just lay around with ice..script meds…I have no life whatsoever
I am sorry things aren’t improving with your back…they really are tough injuries
Take care of yourself Omega. You’ll be in my thoughts.
Wishing you the best, Omega, and that you come out of this sooner than expected. Take care.
Oh gosh, I know what you’re going through, a family member had a labral tear in the hip, and it was extremely painful and depression-inducing BUT said family member did recover. Rehab took longer than the surgeon promised (…wish they would just be honest about the range of possibilities!) but don’t despair, I really don’t think it’s necessarily a “you’ll never be the same again” kind of injury. I know it sucks so much right now tho–I’m so sorry! Hoping this moves toward successful treatment very swiftly!
So your family member had surgery? Curious where it was performed? The closest place I can think of for me would be Stanford..which is several hours from me…but hear they don’t even specialize in it..it’s shop depressing.
Surgery is pretty risky and downtime/recovery time is usually a year. My knee is ready messing up from being out of whack and my other side is having pain for compensating.
*sooo depressing
So sorry, but so glad you checked in. We’re all thinking of you!
Wishing you well, I hope things start to improve soon.
I hope things get better for you soon!
I will keep you in my thoughts, Omega.
My mom is going through a similar thing. She was given a brace for her leg and we think it over corrected things and did more harm than good. She can barely walk now and is pretty depressed about it. I hope something gives you some relief soon. Debilitating pain can be very depressing. Take it easy and know that we’re all thinking about you and sending healing thoughts your way.
Sounds really awful! I hope you find the care you need and, yes, do check in here. Thinking of you.
You continue to be in my thoughts, Omega.
Slowly recovering from my cold, I have more energy, and I can talk, but the nose is still congested enough that my sniffer only works intermittently. I put on Un Fille de Berlin, this morning, and I could smell it for a while, but now I can’t smell it at all. I had a piece of rye toast a while ago with butter and garlic salt on it (gotta keep the vampires away) and I could smell that…I’m sure I’ll be able to smell the perfume later, I sort of overapplied. ๐
I’d never heard this combination, interesting. I sometimes have toast with anchovy butter, with strong tea, apparently an old Victorian tea sandwich (usually for men, strong like gentlemen’s relish).
ooh, anchovies! I like anchovies, but I never thought of mixing them in butter on toast!
I’ll have to try that..
Do you have many vampires near where you live? I’ve heard of fairies at the bottom of the garden…
vampires in the form of noxious mosquitoes, who love me inordinately. Garlic is supposed to reduce the attraction…not sure it works, but I like garlic butter. ๐
Botheration to all bloodsuckers!
Mosquitos don’t trouble me, but if there’s a flea on the loose, it will ALWAYS try to set up house under my Tee-shirt!
I managed to leave the house without perfume today. It was gloomy and rainy and I was having trouble getting motivated. I had intended to put on some Encre Noir to shore myself up a bit, but I guess that’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
Perhaps a SOThisEvening?
Lol ????
I smell divine in Songes EdP (thank you Austenfan!). Heavenly, will test soon next to the Edt, but so far it smells deeper and the vanilla seems more a bit more spicy.
Current Jolie Madame. It felt like winning the lotto to find the old bottle I had, which was already very old when I wore it in my wedding, lying at the back of my closet when we moved. But still, even being able to compare them side by side, I find the current version very nice and classy. I see it as Eau de Jolie Madame. 31 rue Cambon classy, and a bargain of sorts.
Thank you, solanace. I love a good side-by-side, and I love a romantic wedding perfume lost and found story!
Ooh congratulations on the rediscovery (especially of the bottle you wore to your wedding! so sweet), and for the comparison! Very good to know!
Oh, lovely story. I wore Vivre for my wedding in 1972, and I’m not sure I’ve seen it since that year. I wonder what I smelt like? I vaguely remember it as green and young, rather like the bride….I think it’s great that you’ve rediscovered your wedding perfume.
SOTD for a cool and rainy day is Bottege Veneta.
YES, I love this scent. So plush and lovely! I must admit, I was one of the “find me a perfume” people on this blog from a year or two ago, and many perfumistas recommended Bottega Veneta to me. I am so glad I bought it, because it was exactly what I was looking for. Of course I didn’t stop there, though, haha.
None of us ever “stop there”. BV is one of my most fav recent releases.
Or at least we don’t stop here.
My SOTD is TDC Aurora Nomade. It’s beautiful. I really like it but not yet sure if I want a FB yet. To make matters much more difficult, it costs $225. @ Luckyscent & none of the decanters I use have it stock nor are planning to stock it anytime soon. So, what to do…? ????
Do they do that one in the travel sprays? Might be an opportunity to do a split.
Not that I’ve seen but if anyone knows differently please let me know! I’m seriously thinking a split. But I’ve never done that before. I have dropped a small fortune on perfume over the past 2-3 years & I’ve recently taken stock of all my FBs & realized that there’s just too too many & that I’ll never get through them all. I think I’m gonna definitely do the freebiemeet cuz I don’t even like some of them anymore! I’m talking about big dollar, niche perfumes too; mostly purchased from Luckyscent (they must have a complete FBI-worthy dossier on me by now!) I need to share them with people who will appreciate them before they go rancid or else I’ll cry over the waste of beauty & money! My greatest appreciation is for FM for making those 10 mL travel sprays! As much as I love Carnal Flower I just have too much perfume to ever get through to justify the price of a full 50 mLs.
Wearing Prada’s Candy L’eau today…not one of my more sophisticated scents, but pleasant for this blah, rainy day!
I think L’eau smells very pretty. Whenever I take my daughter to Sephora, she always sprays Candy L’eau, then sprays D&G Light Blue. By time we get back in the car, she smells amazing!
Roja Dove’s Bergamot today.
How do you like it?
Rain = comfort scent = Bois des Iles Extrait ๐
Perfect perfumista equation
Bois des Iles is just more than perfect!
Wearing Amouage Memoir Woman today. I keep forgetting how good this one is. It was a birthday present to myself 3 years ago and keep forgetting about it.
I bought a bottle of Memoir Woman a few years ago as a milestone gift for myself. I’ve been wanting to wear it – just a few more weeks until it’s cool enough. I should wear mine more often too.
Happy milestone!
LOVE Memoir. I think it would kill me in summer, though.
Good morning, one and all. Wednesday, but it feels like Monday. I’m beginning to think the surgeon knew something sensible when he told me to take pain meds every four hours. I haven’t been, and I am inching towards the conclusion that he was right and I was wrong. Heavy sigh–why do I think I know best when it’s not my field?
Brightening up: I ate some yoghurt in the night. Yummy! And I sprayed myself with Rahat Loukoum, a warm sweet presence to keep me company in my sleepless night, so that’s my scent of this cold and still quite early morning.
I just got a sample of Rahat Loukoum and it certainly does make for excellent company. Feel better!
I love it the whole perfume, but I wish the heavily almond opening lasted even longer. If the new Prada almond scent is anything at all, I can see myself buying it to just to layer over the dying embers of RL.
Glad to hear you’re recovering. I didn’t get the chance to reply yesterday, but loved the stories of unusual remarks made under medical influences!
Thank you, Gaynor. I’m feeling better now I’m taking painkillers –who would have thought that would work?–but I find talking and laughing rather uncomfortable, so I’m going to work from home for the rest of the week. I’m very lucky that I can. I’m onto soft food now (too like a baby!) and I’m so hungry that if I could liquidise my red boots and drink them, I would!
I moved from RL to Samsara for my SOTD. There’s a strong theme emerging here!
I’m glad that you are able eat some things now. Take care of yourself and take those pain meds!
Haven’t decided about today yet. Yesterday it was Roja Dove Diaghilev, which I adore. Too bad it only comes in a 100-ml, $1,150 bottle.
For a long time I gave Roja a Spanish pronunciation and was subliminally annoyed by the mix of languages, but I had jumped to the wrong conclusion. Later, I read that it’s his real name, Roger, as one of his family members used to pronounced. Videos indicate that he pronounces it like “rahjah,” approximately. I have to admit that I wouldn’t be tempted by a perfume named Roger. ๐
!!! to so many of the above points of information! Cripes that is an eye-popping price. So what does it smell like?! I guess at $11/ml, this is one where it really is a bargain that I could try it for just the price of gasoline to drive to Neiman’s! (Lol, I just checked STC–$30 for a 1ml sample!! So, gas plus an overpriced lunch while I’m at the expensive mall ๐ )
And meanwhile, I’ve fully been saying Roja wrong until right now, so thanks so much for the correction–now when I go try the perfume I can’t remotely afford, at least I won’t also mispronounce its name! ๐
It reminds me of Amouage Beloved, but even more chypreed, and made with even more of the real, old, high quality ingredients that are no longer found in modern perfume. It also reminds me a bit of some of the old chypres like Balenciaga Cialenga and some of the leathery golden oldies like Guerlain Djedi, but Diaghilev is more over the top.
There was a super exhibit at the National Gallery in DC in 2013 on Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes, and I’d say this is a perfume lives up to the name.
me too, nozknoz, was saying row-ha in my head. Must admit I’m put off by the line’s overly blingy bottles (not to mention the retail prices). That said, wouldn’t mind trying a few the next time I’m at Bergdorfs.
Ditto me on the mental pronunciation of his name. Who knew? But this is a line that I try and just ignore b/c unless I hit the lottery, it’s not going to happen. I won’t even let myself test them. Why be totally miserable with wanting something so $$$? I’m still lemming for a bottle of Amouage Beloved……
Not to make matters worse but did you notice that FragranceNet currently has a tester? $169, and free shipping… (Should say, that’s still a good chunk of change, to me at least!, but relative to MSRP!)
I went a little bit nuts over that for a minute. Then I realized it must have been Beloved and not Diaghilev on FragranceNet. Like AnnS with Roja Dove commercial monstrosities, I’m safe around Beloved because I’ve never tried it.
Yes, I could do without the giant Swarovski caps. Too bad they don’t offer plain refills or small travel sizes like BK, Hermes, TDC and others!
That’s so funny.
Rahjaah, be a good boy and bring your grannie her glasses…
Exactly! ๐
All right, I am going to put on the little sample I got in a swap ages ago, and will think expensive thoughts.
I am also a big reluctant fan. I occasionally go unscented to the shops with tester bottles for the express purpose of wearing Diaghilev, the only way I ever will. Even a split is off the table, financially. Really not my kind of bottle either, but can you do anything but More More when asking for that price?
If I lived near a shop with Diaghilev, I’d do the same! Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
This is the one case where I can get behind that aphorism.
SOTD is Carven L’eau de Toilette. I have Le Parfum and love it so much that I picked up the L’eau. It’s sheer and more citrusy, but not bad at all for summer.
Hi all. I’m wearing Creed Royal Mayfair, and love its rose, lime and eucalyptus. Very refreshing on a 100+F day here. My big question is whether this reads as masculine to others or unisex. I think it may be a teensy toe over the masculine line for me, and I can’t pinpoint why. Anyone else tried this, or the original Windsor? What say ye? Stay cool ๐
I thought the day was going to be much more humid than it is so launched myself in Herba Fresca (I hope I’m remembering the name right), which has long gone.
Hey Everyone, it’s now near the end of Day One at Saint Petersburg. We just got done with a private evening at The Hermitage and we only saw a teeny tiny fraction of the over 3 million pieces of art. See, no one should ever complain of the size of their perfume collection.
Anyway, I may have been too easy on my steps goal (or perhaps I’m just an overachiever or both). Including today’s steps, I am now up to a little over 111,000 steps. As such, I am sure I’ll meet the first goal of 120,000 steps. To make it more of a challenge to double the perfume budget, my new next goal will be 175,000 steps (instead of 150,000) so feets, don’t fail me now.
Have a great week everyone!
Go, go, hajusurri!
Wow! Fantastic! Walk on (and take lots of photos)!
Wow! That’s impressive! Very inspiring and love the perfume reward tie-in.
Hurrah!
Hajusuuri Gump! You still haven’t told us what the reward bottles are. Or is it a surprise?
It’s a surprise because I now have several contenders ๐
I’m wearing Bulgari Jasmin Noir today. Picked it up at Marshall’s. They had Jasmin Noir and Mon Jasmin Noir, and I knew I had had a sample of one and liked it, but couldn’t remember which one. So I took a chance. I think I got the right one, though. When I was at Sephora over the weekend, I saw that they now have a travel spray of Mon Jasmin Noir, so I took a spritz from the tester, and I didn’t like it as much as the one I got (and for a better deal anyway).
Also got a sample of the new Eau Parfumee au Thรฉ Bleu. So far I’m not sure I like it. I get more violet leaf than I’d like, and I don’t know that I pick up anything I’d recognize as iris, but after the violet leaf note fades a bit, I feel better about it. I don’t know.. I haven’t really given it a full wearing yet.
SOTD Songes body oil with a bit of sandlewood EO adds a nice earthy buzz for this not-too-hot rainy day.
Do you dilute your EO in a carrier oil or spot apply them full strength? I’m always curious about how folks use EO’s…
I would have diluted it but my jojoba oil smelled kind of rancid. The sandlewood is pretty potent. I just applied specks on my arm and diluted it with the body oil which worked out pretty well. I can still smell the sandlewood but the Songes is pretty much faded.
I don’t usually point out my own typos, but “sandlewood”? I wonder how often I wear “sandles”. ๐
I always blame autocorrect. For everything. Even for late payments, unreturned phone calls, and delayed email responses. Autocorrect has big, broad shoulders ๐
Well, I’m taking full credit for that one ๐ But I like your line if thinking, Deva(auto corrected to Devastating)
If you feel like continuing your experiments, mixing some of your Songes oil with some of your sandalwood EO and letting it sit a while might be worth a try. I’m guessing the sandalwood would help ‘fix’ the scent of the Songes somewhat, so you’d get a more gradual transition out of the Songes ‘top’ of your one-of-a-kind fragrance.
Hm, maybe it’s called Dreamy Sandles? Like candles with sand, or sand in your handles… the marketing department may have some feedback on this title.
Hahaha!
Ha! It might be more fun just coming up with names. I like the combo, so maybe I’ll try that method and see what happens. It’s really a handy EO to have because of all the layering possibilities.
I can’t think of anything that couldn’t go with sandalwood.
Today I am wearing Jeanne Arthes Love Generation Fashion Victim. I’m surprised by how ‘dry’ this edp is. It’s a bit too sweet vanillic for me. And it barely lasts for 2 hours.
I intended to wear my sample of Very Vintage Corday Toujours Moi, but I forgot. Now I don’t know if I should put on precious juice this late in the day.
My vote would have been yes.
Now I wish I had gone with that, but I forgot again! Now what would be a great SOTN?
