If you have a spare moment, do tell us your fragrance of the day.
I'm commando again. It's possible I won't put on fragrance until I head home on Saturday.
Reminder: tomorrow will be Perfumer Spotlight...name a perfumer you don't think gets as much attention as s/he should, and wear one of their perfumes.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Frederic Malle En Passant. It makes me want to keep Olivia Giacobetti in my basement. In the least creepy and most humane way possible.
Can I come and live with you then? Because of Dzing! and Vamp mostly.
But of course! And bring your own favorite perfumers to keep Olivia company! 😀
You inspired me to put this on today, too!
I started the day in wild orange EO diluted in jojoba oil, plus the wonderful remains of Aroma M’s Camellia cleansing oil (love that scene of olibanum, neroli, rosemary, and yuzu). After swimming we’ll see how Femme Rochas holds up to chlorine. Enjoy your potentially unperfumed last days of vacation, Robin!
That cleansing oil sounds lovely. Good luck with trying to combat chlorine smell- that smell lingers for days!
Thank you! I love this cleansing oil and wish the rest of the Camellia line were cheaper, because everything in it smells wonderful. When I swim as often as I should, the chlorine smell lingers until I swim again, so this is an ongoing perfumista problem.
Let us know how it works out. I’ve been experimenting with what does and doesn’t work with the un-killable traces of chlorine…and so far has been a crapshoot. Some turn downright skunky, and others prevail. No rhyme or reason!
So far so good!
Will you share your list of winners, pretty please?
Actually I’m dying to know about the losers, too.
Sure! Some that worked:
Eau des Merveilles, Odalisque, Ambre Sultan, Mohur.
Some that were very bad:
Narciso Rodriguez, Jour d’Hermes, Moon Bloom.
Maybe something that helps the winners is at least a vague saltiness?
Interesting. Or maybe it’s amber good, musky floral bad?
I’m in SL Cedre. It’s too heavy for this weather and too sweet for my taste, but I’m enjoying it nevertheless (when I put my tan sandals on in the morning, I simply felt that I needed to wear something woody). A cedar perfume for tuberose lovers.
I find it a tuberose perfume for tuberose lovers. 🙂
Yes, I think quite a few people do. But on me, it’s actually quite woody. Or it’s also possible that as my standard for tuberose is Fracas, I find anything with less tuberose pretty woody.
Excellent reference point! Do you tend to wear the EdP?
Yes! Do you prefer the extrait?
I don’t know. I bought a micro mini of the extrait once because it was cheaper than any amount I could find of the EdP, surprisingly. I admired it but felt like it was wearing me, so I gave it away. I suspect the EdP would wear me too, but one day I’ll try it just to make sure. Have you compared them?
I dont think I’ve tried Cedre, although tuberose and woods are high on my love-list. Must sample.
I was actually distracted by your mentioning of sandals, and didn’t think about the perfume. Like, sigh..how I wish it was warm and sunny and sandal weather here! I know that’s very greedy of me as it’s sandal weather 8 months of the year here and so I’ll try not to wish back the sun from keeping you warm for a couple of months 😉
Hah! You’ve only got a few more months to cozy it up, right? I love sandals and shorts but I’m always happy in fall when it is boots and cozy sweater weather again. I love to layer – clothes and perfume – and that works best in cooler weather 😉
Yes! Sandals! It was quite thrilling to put them on, as sandal weather is rare here and always fleeting. But today is really quite nice and sunny.
I’ve never tried Cedre, but I suspect I’d like it.
It is well worth trying. I think it would be stunning if it was less sweet.
I quite enjoy Cedre, enough to buy a FB. On me it’s mostly woody. Imagine my surprise when I found that most people consider it a tuberose scent!
I suspect tuberose is one of the reasons I like it, but I would not have realized it was there without prompting.
APOM today, in one of those perfectly coordinated, uplifting, match-perfume-to-the-universal-vibrations-and-emotional-climate moments that I hope will happen EVERY time I make a grab for a bottle and spritz with abandon, but alas, doesnt. (I would’ve thought with this much practice it would be a failsafe formula.) But today- perfecto 🙂
Well done! I hope for that every single time too.
Aw, thanks leathermountain 🙂
I’d never have thought to try to put this into words, but you hit it perfectly…thanks.
How lovely! It sounds as though everything is right today– you’re perfectly comfortable in your skin and your scent tells the world that.
SOTD: Interlude Man (Amouage)
SOTD is Esprit d’Oscar, one of my favorite “office scents”.
One of my favorite scents! You smell terrific
Very nice!
Ormonde Jayne Tiare. It reminds me of Cristalle, but less oakmossy. But I love Cristalle, so that’s fine with me!
SOTD is BV Eau Legere, another by a perfumer who definitely is not neglected or unloved in the NST community – Michel Almairac. I still have no idea what I’ll wear for the Friday theme this week. Sigh.
Me neither. It’s one of those challenges where I have to do homework to find out who the perfumers actually are, and I cant say Im in much of a homework mood. I think it will be a case of choose perfume, then hope if I dont know who made it, maybe not many people will? 🙂
LOL – it’s worth a try! I’m not a fan of homework either, and will probably wait until the last possible second and then just wear whatever call my name.
Haha that’s my plan too: underappreciated at least by me, because I don’t know who they are to appreciate them!
I love homework! What do I get for doing yours?
I knew there was something twisted about you. In a nice way, of course. 🙂
Like a great plot!
When I was small, dad used to help me with my maths homework (ychh) and I would make him a cup of tea and pikelets or ANZAC biscuits on Saturday morning. If I could think of a cyber-space equivalent of the tea-and-biscuit routine, I’d definitely take you up on the homework offer!
What are pikelets? That’s a very sweet routine!
Like small pancake, but much thicker. You might know them as griddle scones, perhaps. They don’t have a lot of taste in themselves — they’re mostly a medium for eating jam and cream…
Thank you, wd! Sounds like I’d like to know them as pikelets or griddle scones or just about anything with jam and cream.
I don’t know who the perfumers are for most of my scents by the bigger name companies – might be easier to think of any indie/smaller niche lines with perfumer in charge (PdN, SSS, DSH, Aftelier, smell bent, Tauer). But those are mostly pretty well known also, here on NST. Hmmm.
I’m wearing PdN’s Sacrebleu which I normally wear in cooler weather, it’s lovely even on this very summery day.
And thank you! You’re my inspiration for today. I’m not yet up (it’s not quite five o’clock in the morning here) so I’m scentless so far, but Sacrebleu will be perfect for my day.
You are very welcome, Patricia de Nicolaï is a genius.
Cristalle today. I snagged a sample last time I was at Nordies. I used to wear it decades ago but nowi t’s not working on me at all. The mid-notes smelled really indolic to me and now I’m getting cirtusy iodine. Good thing I think the scent has almost run its course, two hours into my day.
Is it the EDT or EDP?
Put on Safran Troublant for the first time in probably a year. I knew I liked it, but am really loving it today.
That’s a great one!
Wearing the last vestiges of PG Indochine from last evening. Delicious!
Songes today. Gorgeous and blooming in the hot weather we are having. Still have to find a way to smell the EdP, but the EdT is already very perfect.
The edp is even more so 😉
Thank you Austenfan for the last little push towards buying a sample! I will report back whenever about the very very perfect Songes. It is such a great scent, isn’t. Makes me (extra) thankful to be alive and able to smell it!
I could very easily send you one. If you let me have your mail address we can arrange matters. I have plenty of Songes edp to last me a lifetime.
Oh that is very kind of you Austenfan. It is
hsmvanveen at msn dot com
Thank you again!
I got a deal on both and think they are both fantastic! I layer the EDT with Manoi oil, not because I need too but because I can!
SOTD: Amouage’s Beloved Woman.
Sipping my cup of Love Song Tea from Mariage Frères (black tea flavoured with almond milk and rose petals).
That tea sounds divine! I have some Chinese black tea with rose petals. Such a beautiful combination.
I always love it when people mention which tea is complementing their fragrance- I love tea almost as much as perfume (and strangely, some notes are more welcome in a cup than on my skin, like Jasmine).
Same here re the jasmine.
Beloved is so gorgeous!
I wish the US had more access to MF tea-I love love their tea but to ship and pay for it online is a fortune!
A mule is needed.
One with wings!
Pegasinus
I had been thinking along those lines as well 🙂
So far I’ve put on three scents. I tried Eternity, which I got last month as a mini. Hated it. I was in a hurry so I did a quick spray on my shirt of Dame Perfumery’s Mandarin, Neroli and Cedar. However when I got to work I went ahead and put Rose Anonyme on my pulse points. Now I am very over perfumed, and I’m going to go wash everything off. It probably won’t totally go away, but it may tone the smell down.
Washing helped, but I can still smell something. I should have stuck with a nice citrusy cologne today.
Some days are just difficult-to-perfume-correctly.
I am feeling you today. Overslept a bunch, then sprayed burberry body, which is usually lovely on me but today it’s more sour musk tea than pretty rose and vanilla.
Dang it! Oh well. Tomorrow’s a fresh day.
I took your washing lead and does the same. It wasn’t unpleasant so much as strong. Better now 🙂
SOTD is Volnay Brume d’Hiver for miles. The sprayer got kind of stuck, so it poured down my arm and it’s glorious!!
Sweet!
Wearing one of my lady outfits – navy floral ponte sheath, navy boyfriend sweater, beige slightly heeled, slightly dressy flats. Impulsively reached for VC&A Bois d’Iris, which is perfect. I am feeling very put-together. 🙂 Tomorrow, I will be all slouchy for casual Friday, to make up for it.
I am in VC&A First-how do you find Bois d’Iris?
I love Bois d’Iris. On me, it starts with a little dry wood, then a pretty powdery iris kicks in and hangs around. Over time the the wood gets smoother, and the iris sweetens with vanilla, which then sort of alternate back and forth for a loooong time, getting closer and closer to the skin… Right now I am getting mostly vanilla and flowers, in a while it will be more sweet woods…when I am directly comparing them, IP smells better than this, but on it’s own, this is one of my favorite scents.
Love paring iris frags with navy. You sound like you look great!
That’s a nice Friday theme, no? A color you like to wear with a certain note. Has it been done?
That’s a good one!
The outfit sounds beautiful, as does the theme idea.
Yes, fabulous idea! I wear colours more now I’m old and have grey hair, and I definitely associate certain colours with certain perfumes and notes. I’d be spoilt to choose, but I’d be in like a robber’s dog on that challenge!
Sometimes I will wear something to match the stones in my jewelry. A violet fragrance for amethyst. A linden fragrance for peridot.
Your outfit sounds wonderful! I did not get along with Bois d’Iris so well, but I love iris very much in other perfumes.
Yes, it is not everyone’s cup of tea. What Iris perfumes suit you better?
Hiris, La Pausa, Heure Exquise, Dzongkha (if that counts!), Mon Parfum Cherie (same, if that counts). But am in the process of exploring more iris!
Dzongkha! Much as I wanted to love that, we do not get along…
Great look. You and Perthgirl have had perfume serendipity today. Eggzellent.
Almost went for L’Eau Mixte, but switched at the last minute to Caleche.
Aerin Evening Rose is my SOTD. I have a small sample. Very pretty, spicy rose.
This week its seems like I’ve tried more samples than I usually try. Its been fun.
Happy Thursday!
I’m trying Visa, because I got a pretty large sample of it in a swap. I don’t really know anything about it, which I guess is good – no prejudice to sway my opinions! It’s much sweeter than I anticipated, it’s like candy (at least so far)!
It’s fun to sample ‘blind’ like that, and just smell. I never, ever do it. 😉
hahahaha, then you should do it 🙂
Eleanor Roosevelt on the $20 bill! (A current U.S. debate – what woman to put on the $20 bill.) “You *must* do the thing you think you cannot do!”
Hm, I’ve been contemplating trying to organize a blind sampling experience for others. Maybe it can work in a way that I can play too.
I haven’t seen a “new” Sacagawea or Susan B. Anthony coin in ages.
I’ve been working on learning my individual perfume ingredients by scent alone. Since they all come in identical bottles, all I have to do is put them in a bowl and take off my glasses before grabbing… can’t read the labels then so I can’t cheat 😉
Some of the scents are tricky, some are easy to learn. Civet does not require multiple sniffs to ‘learn’ that one… lol
No glasses, that is genius! Thank you so much for sharing that, pixel.
This spring, I caved and bought a bottle of Visa. The SA told me that it was the first bottle of Visa she had ever sold in fifteen years working there. Didn’t quite know how to take that comment, lol! But I couldn’t resist the peach, rose and leather combo.
Ask for all of them!
I haven’t blind-sniffed much either except for the unexpected sample from Dame Perfumery tossed in with an order. Except the fragrance was called “passion fruit, orange blossom, and Vetiver” which didn’t leave much to the imagination.
Visa, I found to be a very sweet and over-ripe fruit powder. I felt like it needed a twist of lime or something.
Patchouli Nosey Be Perris Monte Carlo. Patch galore!
Turning my attentions to the mountain of neglected samples. Today’s pick is a wax sample of Lutens Santal de Mysore. I’m getting sweet spicy butter, and can’t quite decide if that is pleasing or not.
It’s sandals and shorts weather here today, too, perfect for Bvlgari Omnia Coral, my favorite summer playful scent. Its tart pomegranate adds such a nice refreshing touch to the hibiscus and says, Summer fun! Regardless of what I’m wearing or the activity of the day, I just can’t do serious scents in the summer. Missionista mentioned the other day she was wearing pretty much only citrus and non-indolic floral scents at this time, and I fully understand. Except for an occasional evening foray into Songes, I share her summer fragrance philosophy.
Me too! I just don’t live by it.
I like that one – considered a bottle, but have just been enjoying my sample for now.
I’m basking in Shalimar today. The best part of Shalimar is the drydown. I don’t know why but the top and middle can be kind of annoying but I just adore the drydown. After my shower, I think that I will switch to Shalimare Ode a la Vanille.
I have Shalimar on one hand (half-scent twins) and Coromandel on the other. They’re both in drydown, and Coromandel is in the lead.
I’m wearing Honeysuckle Bird from SOIVOHLE, which I almost saved for tomorrow, and eating a perfect nectarine.
Nice!
Love nectarines. and honeysuckle.
Me three! I prefer the white ones, but a ripe nectarine is a wonderful thing. And honeysuckle is probably my favorite floral scent.
I don’t think I’ve had a decent peach yet this year, but the nectarines have been pretty fab.
Walked through Kohl’s and spritzed on some Vera Wang Embrace. It’s the Periwinkle and Iris and on me it smells just like Bath & Body Works Sensual Amber. Hmmmm.
Wearing Ineke Balmy Days & Sundays. Got the sample kit long ago and considered using the $25 off for a bottle of this, but never got around to it. It’s like, not love. Think I like the name more than the scent!
I’ve been reading for a while, but decided that now is the time to join the conversation! I’m in Bel Respiro today, the last of my sample. I’ve liked it more each time I’ve tried it, but I still don’t quite like it… it’s a bit too polite, I think. But it was a good choice for today’s schedule of meetings!
Welcome! I have similar feelings about Bel Respiro…on paper, I should LOVE it, but I only find it very okay.
Welcome to the fray, Petrichor! If we follow your Bel Respiro experience to its logical conclusion, then manufacturers ought to give out much larger samples. Enough so that we completely fall for their perfumes. 😉
Welcome Petrichor! Your chosen name is the best smelling of all- and the most poetic. ‘Fluid in the veins of the Gods hitting stone’
How nice to be reminded of that each time I read your name 🙂
I am sampling By Kilian Smokes for the Soul and I cannot smell it at all… I can only smell alcohol evaporating from my hand and then nothing… nothing at all… It scares me… I think my nose is ok, or it can smell Dzongkha, which was next on my list (and I rushed to it scared that my sense of smell is wiped out) My husband said that it is a nice smell.. so he can distinguish it, but I cannot… why? has this happened to anyone else? this is my first time of not being able to smell perfume… so strange….
It happens! I can’t smell Serge Lutens Musc Koublai Khan. Supposed to be a famously stinky fume, but for me: air. Nada. Makes me worry a bit that other musks I really enjoy might be secretly stinky too, though so far nobody has made faces around me when I wear them 😉
Almost the same here: I can smell a little of MKK, but definitely not all of it. Also, a couple of years ago I tried a Carolina Herrera fragrace (I have forgotten the name) and could not smell anything at all. I believe it’s pretty common, although not something everybody experiences.
With MKK, if I literally snort my arm (sooo elegant), I can get the teeniest tiniest hint of …something… feral. And that’s if I put a LOT on. ha!
I think sometimes the perception differs and some people pick one aspect of a perfume over the other, or something like this….I also heard that some people do not pick up certain musks… so this is expected.. but still not a hint of what suppose to be a full on olfactory experience made me feel strangely naked in a room of fully dressed up people, so to speak..
oh well, thank you for speaking up, I am glad it happens and I do not need to screen my nose with X-rays or something of that sort:)
Daimiris is the only perfume I’m anosmic to–I can smell it for 3 seconds while it’s still wet, then zilch
anosmic…yeah, that’s exactly this.. I got 3 seconds… after trying 20 times.. god, I am stubborn.. but it mesmerises me now, since its not one note, but the whole combination that escapes me
Wearing lots of sprays of Terracotta and I’m loving every second of it. Beautiful day in Manhattan doing errands and while the weather is great, the Terracotta is keeping me in this gorgeous world every time I move and removing all the yuck of exhaust and annoyance of crowds at bay.
So glad you are enjoying the beach and have had such great weather, Robin.
L’Or de Torrente – a beautiful coffee/floral. Garnered two compliments at the deli. Did I wear too much? LOL 😉
I know what you mean! I love it when someone compliments my perfume, but I immediately think I might be overwhelming colleagues at neighbouring desks. I get a few comments in lifts, but that’s such a confined space I figure it’s not applicable to the open plan office.
You smell fabulous! Never too much of the golden L’Or! A cup of capuccino, old roses in an antique vase on a scrubbed cedar table in the middle of an Italian piazza . . .Mmmmmm
Read that last word as pizza 😀 But your description of it makes it sound fabulous, indeed!
Ha, ha. No, not brick-oven pizza, a piazza filled with ancient well-worn bricks. 🙂
That is a great description Laila! The cedarwood (on my skin) didn’t arrive until about 4 hours on, but it is beautiful indeed!
SOTD is Donna Karan Woman, vetiver-y sandalwood-y orange blossom-y goodness. I accidentally sprayed my shirt sleeve so it’s gonna be an all-day affair, for sure. (I blame the distraction of that Klingon bottle for the spray-miss)
🙂 A smiley for the Klingon bottle. I have never tried this scent, but it sounds lovely.
Haha – hardest-to-aim bottle could be a fun silly poll. Mine is Omnia.
SOTD was SSS To Dream. Almost done with my small decant and am sad to see it has been moved to “the archives” on her website. Sorry to see it discontinued. It took a few wearings to grow on me but now I just find it so beautiful and ethereal.
For my post-bath SOTE I grabbed the wrong vial from the Q-T sample drawer and put on Tocade when I meant to put on SL Chypre Rouge. I was so confused for a minute. It is not what I was in the mood for but I am enjoying it more as my nose’s expectations adjust! Anyway just had to post here because only you all will understand. 🙂
🙂
Lol! And we do 🙂
Rose Rebelle Respawn– my scent of the evening and my newest purchase
Apart from some colognes, Rose Rebelle Respawn might be my most recent FB purchase!
anosmic…yeah, that’s exactly this.. I got 3 seconds… after trying 20 times.. god, I am stubborn.. but it mesmerises me now, since its not one note, but the whole combination that escapes me
