Posted by Robin on 17 July 2015 14 Comments

Annick Goutal Vanille Charnelle, Ambre Sauvage & 1001 Ouds

Annick Goutal will launch Les Absolus, a new luxury trio, in October. Vanille Charnelle, Ambre Sauvage and 1001 Ouds were developed by perfumer Isabelle Doyen.

Vanille Charnelle ~ a 'milk bath' / second skin fragrance, with vanilla, ylang ylang, pepper and tonka bean.

Ambre Sauvage ~ a classic amber with pink pepper, lavender, iris, vanilla, styrax and patchouli.

1001 Ouds ~ a modern oriental fantasy, with pepper, rose, papyrus, myrrh, guaiac wood and agarwood.

Annick Goutal Vanille Charnelle, Ambre Sauvage and 1001 Ouds will be available in 75 ml, €195 each.

Are there a thousand ouds out yet so that this can be the 1001? Vanilla Charnelle sounds like one I’d like to try

Hey, if you take the L’Occitane into account it would be 2787 ;)

That Vanille sounds divine, but I hope it’s horrible, because $$$.

The Vanille sounds vaguely like Vanille Exquise…which is only $$. ;-)

Goutal enters the Middle East game a bit late, but better late than never I guess.. I’m pretty sure those not so original juices will find their audience. I bet they’ll be an exclusive to Harrods.

They did the Orientalistes in 2007. Those were a bargain by comparison, but all lines seem to have upped their prices considerably.

75ml for 195€? No thanks. So glad I have a lifetime supply of the previous Orientalistes.

For anyone interested in a comparison with the Orientalistes amber (Ambre Fetiche), this one (Ambre Savage) is much warmer and even a bit oud-ey. I liked it much better than Fetiche.

The Vanilla was pleasant but too sweet for me. ‘Second skin’ (in their description) is a bit too optimistic, I didn’t find it as sensual as that implies. I’d probably class it more as a safe and comforting gourmand.
