The long weekend is over, sorry! What fragrance are you wearing today?
I'm wearing Neela Vermeire Créations Pichola.
Reminder: on 29 May we're doing Flirty Friday, and you can interpret that however you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Today I am wearing the savory fig Womanity. I love it so much. It just seemed perfect for today’s sunny warm weather. It’s a reminder that vacations are almost arriving to me 🙂
You smell great. I really need to get a bottle of this, there is nothing else like it.
I am a fan too!
I like Womanity too and always forget how much until someone mentions it. It’s probably one of those things I will someday kick myself for not buying at Marshall’s when I had the chance.
Bottega Veneta Pour Homme 🙂
Nice pick, of course!
Un Jardin sur le Toit, which is now in its violets, raspberries, and wisp of vetiver stage. I wish this stage lasted for longer, but the whole is very nice
And I would take Sur Le Nil and make the mango last for hours 🙂
I wore Sur le Toit for quite a lot of the weekend.
Heure Exquise, both dry oil and EDP. ( One can never have too much of a good thing).
Drinking a Sichuan black tea. Lovely and rather earthy.
Oh, sounds like you know how to start the day right!
I would like to smell you 😉
I initially read this as “I would like to smell *like* you”, and am only now reading it correctly. LOL
The HE DBO is just heavenly! You smell wonderful.
I know 😉
Cristalle Vert today – though I love the ordinal Cristalle I find this flanker to be just right on a day like today.
I sort of wish they’d do more Cristalle flankers, and sort of don’t 🙂
Put me down for a Cristalle Classic.
Yes, YES – me too!
Hypnotic Poison, and I think I fell in love with it. I have never been a big fan of almond in perfumes, but I adore this combination of almond, vanilla and flowers.
I love HP! Comfy and sexy.
Agree — it would work for Friday’s theme too!
I don’t like almond in perfumes usually, but I do like HP.
Sampling a bunch of stuff today: Ann Gerard Rose Cut, ELdO Eau de Protection and Monsillage Eau de Celeri and Ipanema Posto Nove.
I wouldn’t mind a FB of any of them.
I love Rossy, it’s on my wishlist.
How did Eau de Celeri last for you? I have a sample but have only tried it once. I found it a nice interesting green but very quiet and not long lasting when dabbed from my little vial. I obviously need to try it again to see if it was just me.
Sorry, only just seen this. I only used a tiny dab as well and got about 5 hours out of it, it isn’t strong on skin, but has a very nice sillage. I plan on giving it a proper testing with 3 generous smears form the vial tomorrow.
Oh, and I noticed it’s an EDT, not an EDP.
Vintage Samsara, which I have been wearing a lot lately. Pichola sounds amazing!
you smell like a very nice sandalwood I bet! Enjoy Samsara (and all its forms)
I’m wearing Fleur de Chine, again, as it’s just so beautiful. We had a party on Saturday, I was wearing Lyric, one of my sisters was wearing Lumiere Blanche and the other Fleur de Chine, reminding me how good these two perfumes are. We were magnificent 🙂
Yes, you were!
A family full of wonderful smelling sisters = magnificent.
SOTD is Donna Karan Gold. I bought a small bottle blind. Thanks to the person who suggested it when I mentioned how much I love TF Shanghai Lily but not the price – I can’t remember but I am very grateful. It is so creamy and pretty!
Gold is a bargain and just as pretty!
Thumbs up on your Gold.
Scent free today again, as I’ve had a head cold all weekend. I bet you all smell great!
Feel better soon!
Ugh, hope you feel better!
Feel better soon!
Thank you all 🙂
Vintage-ish Cinnabar. It’s a miserable grey day, hammering down rain, so I needed something spicy and warm and comforting. It’ll soon be too hot to wear that kind of thing so I’m enjoying it while I can.
I was just thinking that – I actually don’t mind these rainy cold days we’re having, because I have more time for wintery scents.
My SOTD is Honeybee Gardens Bay Rum Herbal Aftershave. Can I just say that I do not understand how men can put perfumed alcohol on their faces after shaving. That sounds so painful to me. There are some interesting reviews of aftershaves on-line, and the guys talk about the “burn” as if it’s a good thing.
Anyway, this stuff smells nothing like bay rum, but I like it. It is a bit like Florida Water with some mint and a smidgen of powder, but it lasts much longer than Florida Water. It should be a good cologne to use as the temperatures heat up. It should be in the 90s in a week or so.
Ingredients: SD alcohol 40 (natural source), witch hazel extract, aloe vera, yarrow, calendula, German chamomile, elder flower, bay, rose, peppermint, lavender, lemon, essential oils.
I don’t know enough about shaving, but sure wouldn’t put alcohol on my legs…
SOTD is No. 19 EDP for its spine-strengthening properties (and because it’s beautiful, of course). It’s going to be a tough week at work … at least it will be short! Happy Tuesday everyone!
I’m wearing No. 19 EDT, so almost scent twins! I hope your week goes well.
No 19 will help you power through! And smell wonderful to boot.
Me, three. I am just not ready for the work week and hope this helps!
News flash about Colonial Drug:
My husband and I were walking in Nonantum (Newton) yesterday and we passed by Colonial drug. The owner (woman) was inside, but the shop was closed because of the holiday. She let us inside anyway and was incredibly gracious, engaging and friendly. It looks like they are really spiffing up the shop and have a lot of new inventory. I noticed that they have the full line of Floris, some good ones from Creed, and seem to be getting in a lot of Italian products (Villorisi shaving and bath things, and the full line from Ortegia). Their perfume shelves look much more updated and organized and she mentioned that they will be offering a full on scent bar for women and men’s fragrances in a month or two. Really she was more than kind.
Some of us have had off-putting experiences at Colonial in the past, and maybe as a result of complaints and on-line bad press, it seems that they are really trying to create a customer-friendly atmosphere in their shop now. I’m just really happy that there will be a scent bar in the Boston area, and really would prefer to support a local business rather than on-line retailers.
Ooh, that’s really great news! My dad lives in Newton, so I keep intending to visit when I’m out there to see him.
Yes, do go if you get a chance. There is free parking behind Silver Lake Liquors if you are driving. And just a few doors down is the most wonderful antique shop on the planet with all sorts of African and Asian art and curios as well as an amazing collection of vintage jewelry. The proprietor of that store is a total riot, you will have fun.
Now that I’ve moved up here I’d love to do a sniffa if Colonial Drug has decided to try friendliness (since that location is a bit more out of the way than Harvard Sq). My screen name is my yahoo address
YES! The first part of June’s kinda busy for me, but it should calm down a bit later.
I will keep you posted on when the scent bar is available. It would be great to go a bit later in the summer. For me it is a good walking destination, but if you are driving, you can park behind Silver Lake Liquors for free (I’m pretty sure), or take the 71 bus from Hvd square and then it’s about a 20 minute walk up Watertown Street.
Good morning : ) SOTD is HDP Noir Patchouli
I love that one, and still have 2 samples of it. I need to wear it soon again.
SOTD is Cuir de Lancome which I love, but it doesn’t sit right with me today 🙁
I love it too… but there is the occasional day when it seems stifling.
Today is Gaultier’s Kokorico. It doesn’t tend to get much love, but I really like it. As it doesn’t get much love, you can now get a huge bottle for little more than a song.
It’s only a little step forward in time from yesterday’s wear of Knize Ten.
Pre-work out, I’ve put on some Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia for the first time. I found the opening too sharp, but after an hour it has settled down to a citrusy, slightly green, faint flower. I much prefer Malle’s magnolia. I just wish they were the same price per ml! (At least I can get a smaller size of the Malle one).
I’d like to know your thoughts on these.
Now I’m off to shower!
I tried Malle ‘ s eau de magnolia, and didn’t think much of it. It was a bit wan for me, but i am not that scent ‘ s target audience, as I am not generally into citrus or soft florals. Didn’t like Tauer Zeta, either, somehow these are connected for me.
Haven’t tried the new Atelier, will probably give it a try out of curiosity next time i am in Sephora.
Not sure this is any help for you, lol.
SOTD is Philosykos.
Lovely green figs to counter the gray gloom here in Buenos Aires.
Typical gray Autumn day, with a little fog to make it even more drab! 😛
I read about warm-weather scents this weekend, so, inspired by mention of Box of Eels, I’m in the counterintuitive Champagne de Bois. We’ll see how it works in low-80s at lunch; it’s great in the temp-level-set-to-stun air conditioning.
SOTD is VC&A Orchidee Vanille.
I work from home in front of a computer all day and have switched from a conventional sit down desk to a treadmill desk.
Today is my first day walking, talking, typing and working. I’m already pooped after three hours!
I smell good though 🙂
I had never heard of a treadmill desk until now! I should have been using this while sitting at the computer doing my tax return and reading perfume blogs. I’ve been suffering with sciatica for over a month now. If anyone knows how to get over this, let me know.
Yikes, sciatica can be so disabling! There is a learning curve to a treadmill desk, but so far I am really liking it. Much better for you all around as there is more and more evidence that’s sitting more than 4-5 hours a day is disastrous for health and these negative effects are not mitigated by being active other times during the day.
It’s a great alternative to sitting on your keester all day 🙂
Exactly! I was going to yoga, and the gym 4-5 days/ week, consistently for the last 3 1/2 years, so I thought something like this couldn’t happen to me, but it did!
I have also noticed the trend towards standing desks. Supposed to be very good for us! Anyone doing standing-and-working here who can tell us how it feels? how long it takes to get used to it?
I stand about half the time — I have a great laptop stand, cheap on amazon, and have divvied up what I do on my laptop and what I do on my desktop so that I am “forced” to alternate standing and sitting. Will note a few things:
1. For some people, standing all day can be as “harmful” as sitting all day. Worth doing some research on the subject! I tried standing all day at first, but eventually found that alternating works best for me. And in the beginning, yes, your feet will hurt!
2. If you stand poorly / use poor posture, standing for any length of time is going to be hard — hard in a different way than sitting all day, but still, can be hard on the legs and the back. Some people find their back pain just eventually moves from one part of the back to another.
3. One of the things I like about standing is that it “reminds” me to move away from my screen every so often.
4. Standing more really does seem to burn more calories for me! I’m sure Deva is burning way more than me on her treadmill though.
5. Standing at the laptop stand has also made me think about how much I sit in general. I frequently watch TV standing now, and I often eat lunch standing.
Even short walks every an hour can make a difference:
http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/05/13/a-2-minute-walk-may-counter-the-harms-of-sitting/
Re sciatica, it would be best to get a medical check-up. Also think about whether anything has changed in terms of your schedule, chair or other ergonomics, weight, exercise, how you are spending your time, and so on. Also, how old is your mattress? Please let us know what eventually works!
Sunny Day, have you tried the tennis ball trick? You position a tennis ball um, how do I put this delicately? Well, you place it on a firm chair or car seat or wherever you find yourself sitting right up under the area that hurts. You’ll know when you’ve got it right. It releases the tensed muscles in the area and provides some relief. (I also do this for driver’s butt, and two tennis balls in a sock works well for a tense neck and back pain.)
Chiropractors are good at dealing with sciatica, and taking your preferred NSAID is helpful for the pain and inflammation. Acupuncture may help.
I had sciatica when I was pregnant and I felt like I just wanted to gnaw my leg off. And half my butt.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice everyone. I haven’t tried the tennis ball trick, but I have seen my doctor, and I have another chiropractor appointment today.
Here’s a link to a recent article that looks at sitting/standing/walking desks for anyone interested. 🙂

SOTD: White Musk – The Body Shop
One of those great cheap finds. Need to try layering it with the oil actually. I wonder if it makes it any better…
Dabbed on some Amouage Sunshine today (first time testing) and it was great for a few seconds as I was applying. Then it was gone. I see it has almond as a note and I usually have problems getting that to stick around. Everything else in it must have disappeared along with the almond. Oh, well. At least I won’t be tempted to buy that beautiful yellow bottle (yellow being my favorite color).
I find putting a sample in the no pile to be pretty much as satisfying as loving it… Money (and hesitation) saved!
It’s supposed to be about 90 degrees all week and that, in combination with my exhaustion from a busy weekend, meant I needed something gentle today. Wearing Clair de Musc and thinking this will get replenished when my sample runs out.
I thought I’d survived, but I’ve finally been taken down. Whenever the fiance gets a cough or a little cold, I end up decimated and bed-ridden. I’d had a streak of good luck this year (I survived his 102F fever over Christmas unscathed!) but the cold he’s had for the past two weeks is being stubborn. Last night I felt a sore throat coming on after a full weekend of barely sitting down for more than half an hour. This morning I woke up feeling like someone punched me all over and my throat completely swollen. He also relapsed after getting somewhat better so this dang cold has knocked both of us down. Grrrr!!!!
Thank goodness for Eau de Merveilles. The salty notes are really working magic and making the work day tolerable today.
On a good note: got a lot of work done in the new house this weekend. Painted the living room and now it makes me so incredibly happy. Also, I may have changed what my paint color choice is for the bedroom now. I was going to paint it the same color as the study, but after seeing the living room I think I’ll go with that color. The lighting is the same since the bedroom is upstairs from the living. Also, having curtains up and a little bit of furniture is helping to make the house look like we actually live there. Sofa comes next week! 🙂
I hope you’ll feel better soon!
Feel better soon!
Happy Tuesday everyone! What a morning. Houston experienced some horrible weather last night. As a result, the city is flooded. My school district is the only one that didn’t cancel for the day. The sun is finally out, but we are expected to get more rain!
My SOTD is Wild Fig & Cassis. Loving this one so much.
Pictures of the Houston flooding were on the news here in Portland. It looks awful. Glad you are safe!
Glad everything is ok where you are, SfA. I’m working from home today. My office is not far from where a lot of the flooding is around Meyerland and is not far from Brays Bayou, so I decided not to try to go in.
Also this nastiness has sprung a leak in the roof above my apartment, apparently. I was watching the news this morning and noticed a water patch on the ceiling above the TV. I don’t remember ever having anything like this in previous rains, so I think it’s a new leak.
I hope you and everyone else affected by the horrible storms in Texas, Oklahoma, Mexico, etc, will all recover soon. Powerful water is frightening.
Glad you’re OK!
There have been articles about this on the Washington Post Capital Weather Gang blog with photos and videos. There was 2-3 inches of rain per hour in some locations. WOW! Glad you both are OK and hope the same for other NSTers in TX and OK.
I posted my comment in the wrong section. Thanks everyone for the support!
Still chilly here, so I am in the understated elegance of YSL Cinema. I got this is a swap here, and wanted to say I’m liking it a lot.
Yum! I love that one – I got some in the last swap, too!!!
Thanks everyone. I made it to work safely today. I am starting to see the sun shine. Yeeeaa!
SOTD is Bulgari Red Tea today.
I wanted to kind of powder puff my way through the first day back to work. SOTD is L’AP Mimosa pour Moi.
To me, today is just a vintage Mitsouko day. I do love Mitsouko in warm weather.
Yes! Was perusing NST for inspiration… Mitsouko… will apply it shortly. 😎
SOTD for me is L`Eau Ambree by Prada.. been a while since I’ve worn this and I do love it. I think my collection of loved scents is getting too big to really enjoy them, but I can’t stop! 🙂
Hee, this sounds like “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!”
Yeah, exactly!
Or even worse “Help! I’ve fallen and I don’t want to get up!”
“I’ll just be down here for awhile… goodness, I smell good” 😉
SOTD is once again Misia. It is one of the few things I can wear to work without getting negative comments.
I would love to try Misia – it’s high on my list of ‘must-sniffs’ but I will have to wait for my next trip to the Big City…
Why do your colleagues make negative comments, though? That seems a bit personal! Or are there rules about wearing scent? I’ve always been lucky to work either at home or in fragrance-friendly offices.
nisotu, I’d be happy to send you my Misia sample. You can email me at harukirumi at yahoo dawt cahhhhm.
Oh gosh, I just saw this! That’s so kind of you. However, I’m in the UK so maybe it’s not possible/ too expensive to post it?
SOTD = Stephen Jones Wysteria Hysteria. I live the way this smells for a couple of hours, but now it is gone completely! Think they’ll make an intense version of this? I will not spend the money they want on this wimpy juice…sigh!
Pretty bottle though!
Yes, the bottle is pretty, and I really like the scent, but it just wimps out too soon. If it cost half as much, I would pay and spray with abandon…oh, well, lots of other molecules in the air…LOL!
SOTD is SSS Voile de Violette, soft violet with a touch of green and gentle background woods, perfect for a moody, gray day after an exhausting – but very nice – holiday weekend.
Sending feel better wishes to everyone under the weather and also stay safe wishes for all those affected by the very scary weather in the southwest.
Jardin Sur le Nil today on a hot sticky day. Love this. I will be wearing it all summer, I think.
Perfect scent for a hot, sticky day!
I need to try this – so many people love it…
I didn’t quite get myself together enough to do anything for the freebiemeet this time. However, I’d be happy to send you a sample of le Nil if you are in the US or Canada. Contact me at my user name at yahoooooooo.
I am wearing Balmain Jolie Madame edt vintage. This is the first time I am trying this perfume and I am in love, sooo nice.
I went to an estate sale this weekend and found some great vintages, this was one of them, I can’t wait to try the others.
What else did you find?
I found 2 purse sprays of Bal a Versailles perfume , CD Diorissimo perfume and Caron Fleurs de Rocaille extrait
Oh, what a find! Do you have an estimate of how old the Diorissimo is?
I made a little research on the Internet and my guess is from 1960’s
Wow, great haul!
My weekend continues as I took today off (my birthday!). We’re enjoying a day at the beach and my SOTD is Tauer ZETA.
Happy Birthday!
Thanks!
Happy Birthday, fellow Gemini!
Thanks 😉
Happy Birthday! Enjoy the beach.
Thanks! It’s sunny but with the wind it’s chilly. Still lovely and better than being at work!
Happy Birthday! Taking a day off from business-as-usual and doing whatever you want has always been my idea of the best birthday gift one can give oneself.
SOTD = Le Labo Vanille 44
I intended to wear Chanel No. 19 EDP to fortify me for a meeting this morning but Vanille 44 was on hand so I went with it for the same effect from a totally different perfume. I have the same meeting (same content, different audience)!tomorrow morning at an ungodly hour…will wear something else then.
Soivohle Lilas et Narcissus. So gorgeous
In Jour d`Hermes Absolu and have a sudden hankering for a luxurious, colourful bouquet of flowers. Maybe I will pick something up on the way home.
Wearing DSH le Smoking on a hot and humid day. This morning it smelled chilly and distant, just right. But by 1:00 too distant to smell.
Have to wear my number one frag on my birthday 🙂 so it is Mona’s fabulous Oud.
I’m wondering if the newly named Oud Osmanthus is close to the Oud? Somehow I fear it isn’t.
Happy Birthday!
Many happy returns of the day!
Not scent twins but birthday twins! Happy Birthday!
I’m wearing Debaser yet again. It appears it will be one of my go-to scents this summer and I may need a bigger decant or FB sometime. I know nobody else in the area wants more rain but I could do with some cool drizzle or at least clouds. This hot, still, muggy stuff is for the birds and the only ones enjoying it are the biting insects. Houston folk, we seem to have your mosquitoes and you can have them back any time 😉
I’m going outside anyway. Just spent three hours trying to convince a state govt. office that a piece of farm property did NOT have an assigned numerical address, so I can’t do better than directions, coordinates, or the tax description. Finally got fed up and went online to enter the info since I assume nobody will ever actually read it.
On the bright side, the river is clear so I’m going swimming later!
Took Bookworm to the eye doctor, getting that appointment in before she heads back to college for the summer session. It was much less stressful for her today than I had worried it would be; they went back to giving her the same eyedrop dose for dilation that they give children, and she didn’t have to suffer through six hours of not being able to see!
SOTD is Mary Greenwell Plum. Gorgeous, and so nice in this warm May weather. The CEO is raking and baling hay – hope he gets it finished before the storm we’re expecting this afternoon.
I just, finally, ordered a sample of Plum. If I fall in love it will be your fault! 😉
Good luck getting the hay baled before it rains!
In Passage d’Enfer today, but not really feeling it. Should have gone with something warm and ‘fluffy’.
Hi everyone,
My afternoon client canceled, so I’m goint to spray and spray liberally. What, I do not know yet. PHI has been sitting neglected, so I may do that one.
Yesterday, I tried out my macro lens for the first time, and took some pictures of ants on the peony buds. Which got me to thinking about how very sweet those peonies must be to attract so many adorable little ants. I was inspired to wear some sweet, sweet jasmine perfume (Lust from Lush) which was beautiful and lasted all day in the somewhat humid weather.
It’s cool and overcast here today – May Gray time in San Diego. This is a strange time as it’s warmer pretty much everywhere else in the US than it is here. So I put on some smell bent One – nice dry spicy vanilla. Kicking myself for not picking up anything in their sale of discontinued stuff this weekend. Not that I needed it, but…
Ropion’s Une Fleur de Cassie. Masterpiece that I don’t wear often.
Oh, you smell wonderful. I wear it quite a lot.
I have 5 ml of it in Tallinn and I miss it… An excellent choice.
And Happy Birthday to the several of you who are celebrating today!
Wearing Jayne Ormonde Osmanthus today. It came by my door this afternoon together with some other samles I’ve ordered. very summery and fresh in a good way.
Hi… I’m new here, and sort of new to fragrances in general. I’m wearing Eau du Bonheur by Fragonard today for the first time. It’s heavenly the moment it’s applied, but slips away to a vague, woody sweetness after just an hour or so.
I love hearing about what everyone’s wearing. I wish I could try them all!
Welcome littleengine! 🙂
Welcome!
The Byredo/Oliver Peeples collab.
This is what I was expecting/hoping Mohave Ghost to smell like.
Not sweet , drier with a thin patchouli/oudish thing going on. I like it and the deep toned bottles are a nice touch.
