TGIF! Today's community project: wear something from Jo Malone or perfumer Christine Nagel.
I'm wearing Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, originally released as part of the Kohdo wood collection.
As always, do tell us your fragrance of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Reminder: on 29 May we're doing Flirty Friday, and you can interpret that however you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
You can count the Christine Nagel perfumes I own on one finger. So I smell of the shiny, sweetened, golden metallic elastoplast goodness that is Archives 69 by Etat Libre d’Orange.
I have not smelled that one yet!
shiny, sweetened, golden metallic elastoplast …… Errr, pray tell me more!
Same here! Love it. You smell. . .spiky, yummy, medicinal and a tiny bit dirrrty all at once. Archives is a hot mess that always makes me smile. Be well.
Scent twins! I’m also wearing Dark Amber & Ginger Lily today.
Hey twin 🙂
I’ve discovered that I own 3 Nagels: Eau de Cartier, L’Histoire d’Eau and Teorema, which is what I’m wearing today.
During this week I’ve realised that I’ve still not tried a single Jo Malone. It’s quite a big line so I might like to keep it that way.
Drinking Assam Halmari, which is probably my favourite Assam. It’s quite mellow but strong if you see what I mean.
I just found a sample of Assam that Upton sent me in early 2014 and that got mixed in with papers in my office! So I’ll be drinking that this afternoon.
Continuing in Jo Malone, now in Geranium & Verbena plus Lily of the valley & Ivy.
I only tried them individually. How do you like the combination?
The LotV & Ivy is really pretty. I think of LotV as my mother’s thing, and I haven’t loved any Jo Malones except for Blackberry & Bay, but that one is tempting.
I’ve applied Theorema sparingly, since I think it made my throat scratchy the last time I wore it. Like austenfan, I’ve never tried any JMs, but I think that will change eventually.
Just let me know when you finally try your first one 😉
I will! Are there any you want me to test for you? For Science, of course. 😉
Lime Basil and Mandarine. Just let me know if it is any good. 🙂
J De Pozo In Black is my Christine Nagel SOTD. It is one of my favorite scents to wear. I am on my third bottle.
Happy Friday!
I think we should have some kind of recognition program for people who go through multiple bottles of a fragrance. Not sure *why* it’s such an accomplishment, just feels impressive.
That is an awesome idea! Granted, I’ll never get an award. It’s been nearly 15 years since I finished a bottle, well before my NST days.
That’s one I’ve been tempted to buy blind, along with In White.
Sadly I only have two Nagel fragrances – Mauboussin and Mille et Une Roses, which is what I’m wearing today. I wish Lancome distributed this in the US! I’m lucky to have three of those little 15 ml bottles. But I don’t wear it as often as I’d like. It really is a pretty little rose fragrance.
Mille et une Rose is very pretty! And something in fragrance terms of what my mother used to call an “all-weather coat,” sort of medium-weight and classic.
It is so pretty – that’s a great description for it to!
Yes – exactly – that’s what I felt like today anyway. Kind of a lovely cardigan scent. And I’m wearing a cardigan too.
I own Mille et Une Roses, completely forgot about it, and it is such a pretty rose. Would have suite today better than Teorema, which I normally only wear in winter.
Mauboussin was too much for me today since it’s spring, even though it’s chilly. This time of year all I’m waiting for is my peonies and roses to bloom, so MeUR is best!
Maybe I posted this before, and maybe it’s not even true anymore, but just in case it helps…. I think it is sold at Bergdorf Goodman’s Lancome counter in NYC. A year or more ago, another US perfumista was desperate to find it. I mentioned seeing it there, and she ordered it over the phone.
I saw at least one of these at the Chicago Neiman Marcus last fall, the Mille et Une Roses at least. . .and I think it is still on the Lancome website. Something to try. It was fun in Chicago to try Peut Etre (sorry for the missing marks) and the others from that collection in person. Hope that helps.
Leathermountain & Hemlocksillage – thanks for those tips. I’ll have to scrounge around a little harder for it!
You smell fantastic.
I was going to wear Si Lolita, but woke up to rain and grey skies, so I went with Amouage Gold and later Rochas Madame to see if it really was similar. And honestly, I probably couldn’t tell which was which if they weren’t side by side.
However, for some mysterious crazy addict reason I now want both bottles. I should say that my decants will probably last me about 5 years or so, but the constant fear of discontinuation and reformulation is driving me mad.
I too have a neurosis brought on by constant discontinuation (of all kinds of products). I have stockpiled to the point where I fear becoming a hoarder. My new vow: let it go! (If I can . . .)
The other thing that usually gets discontinued is good bras that work for me :).
Those too! I lived on eBay for years: bras, lipstick, hair products, fragrances – all kinds of things.
This is indeed tragic. A good bra is so much harder to find than a good perfume, in my experience.
True!
Ditto me on that. I’ve stockpiled my fav work a day bras, fav tights, fav shoes, fav cardigans, etc.
Nothing beats Bravissimo in the UK. And while we’re at it, we could drop in at Les Senteurs in London. Ugh, it’s so far away!
I love your strategy, Ann.
All women’s clothes. And shoes. Men complain that we spend too much time shopping, but it often is not by choice.
I am wearing JM Orange Blossom lotion with Vintage Gardenia cologne. Getting lots of compliments!
I have a sample of Vintage Gardenia and I really like it. I want a FB, but it was discontinued 🙁
And, you smell great!
I used to have a bottle of Si Lolita, but it didn’t work out for me, so I thought I didn’t have anything for today’s theme (although apparently Christine Nagel played a role in Narciso Rodriguez for her, so I should have worn that).
Instead I’m wearing OJ Tolu. I can’t believe I hated this the first few times I tried it. My nose must have evolved because I was blown away by it this morning when I was going through my lesser worn samples.
Happy Friday everyone!
Tolu is gorgeous!
Tolu is always hovering on my to buy list. One of these years…. I remember about 2 or 3 years ago there was a special on the OJ site for buying $X amount and you’d get a FREE bottle of the Tolu parfum. I was dying over this promotion b/c I didn’t have $X available to spend….
SOTD is Verbenas of Provence, and it is perfect for this hot day.
In honor of all the white locust blossoms perfuming the air around here, I’ve got on Nectarine Blossom and Honey, the last of a sample. Nice. I don’t need a bottle.
It’s funny… Dark Amber & Ginger Lily has been the only JM I actively disliked – one of those floral-incense things that smells like acrid wet wood ashes on me. It’s in company with a lot of things that people love, like Eau d’Italie Paestum Rose and Tauer Incense Rose and… oh, what was that thing? Shoot, can’t remember. In other words, it seems to be a skin issue.
I haven’t tried the others, but you and I are in the very same boat with Incense Rose. I kinda thought I was the only one.
Mmmm … I love the smell of white locust blossoms. We call them black locust trees out here, but according to the Interwebs, white locust trees and black locust trees are the same thing. My nose can’t make out any of the listed notes of Nectarine Blossom and Honey. It just smells like generic perfume to me 🙁 If I could smell the nectarine and black locust, I would probably own a FB.
It’s just a hint of locust blossoms in NB&H, but every now and then I get a little whiff.
There’s a huge stand of the trees on either side of the road that leads to the high school… and since I seem to spend a lot of time driving there/waiting in the parking lot for kids to finish track practice/band practice/FFA team meetings/academic challenge team practice, I do enjoy them so much in the spring!
We have honey locust trees here surrounding us, which also have extremely fragrant hanging white blossoms. They usually bloom shortly after my lilacs open, so I’m eagerly awaiting their luscious scent. Unfortunately, this is yet another of my favorite blossom scents I’ve not found in any fragrance.
I love locust blossoms! I think the old MAC Naked Honey fragrance is the closest I’ve ever smelled to a fragrance like it.
I don’t like Dark Amber and Ginger Lily either. Actually, there are only just a few Jo Malone’s that I do like. I don’t own bottles of any JM frags. But to be fair, there are a bunch of the newer ones I’ve never smelled.
SOTD is Wood Sage & Sea Salt, and Annikky’s comment yesterday has me rethinking what I was planning to wear today. Too bad I can’t wear cashmere! Dark Amber & Ginger Lily sounds absolutely divine, and I wish I’d known about it when it was available.
Scent twins! One of my favorite Jo Malone scents. I love that it’s a beachy scent that doesn’t smell like suntan lotion.
Triplets! I have an 8 ml. decant of this which seems about perfect. If I drain it, though, I’d consider buying a FB since I like it very much.
🙂 You smell lovely. Let me also clarify that most of my cashmere comes from Zara…
I wasn’t familiar with Zara so looked it up … and am going to have to find a good chunk of time to browse around in there. I see already that they have some very cute handbags (one of my weaknesses). The cashmere thing for me isn’t so much the investment, it’s that any kind of wool irritates my skin. Even super-soft cashmere. It’s sad, but at least I still have leather – in handbags AND in perfume!
You can still get it, but they only sell it in the 100 ml size.
I never tried the Jo Malone’s but the only Christine Nagel perfume I own is Theorema, so Theorema it is.
As much as I love the Jo Malone line, I don’t think there’s a single one that really stands up to Theorema. Not in a perfumista’s eyes anyway. You picked a winner.
TGIF!!!
SOTD: Red Roses + Blackberry and Bay.
Two of my favourites from Jo Malone!
Those are good ones – never tried them together but I can imagine they’d blend nicely.
I am so gonna try this combo later! Thanks for the inspiration!
Does it combine in a L’Ombre Dans L’Eau direction, if you happen to know that Diptyque?
I’m trying this combo tomorrow. It sounds wonderful.
Oh, me too! Red Roses and Blackberry &Bay are the only Jo Malone samples I can find in my little stash. They do play nicely together.
I don’t usually go for berries in fragrance, but this works with roses. I need to make time for more Jo Malone in my life.
I don’t own any Jo Malone or Christine Nagel scents, so I’m wearing Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune today to brighten up an overcast morning. Happy Friday, all!
That’s one of my first loves. I should dust the bottle off and get it ready for summer.
I’m wearing Red Roses by Jo Malone and True Love perfume oil by Valentina’s Home-Brewed (notes: cardamom, chocolate, and roses). By itself, Red Roses doesn’t hold my interest, but it layers well with the True Love.
Here is a re-hash about what I’ve said in the past about True Love perfume oil: Unfortunately, I do not smell any chocolate, but I do like this perfume. It starts off as a slightly herbal rose, then the spice enters and it’s a spicy rose. The spice comes and goes throughout the day. The rose is never that strong or sweet. It dries down to something warm and slightly dark, and if it is patchouli, then they used a very light touch (I don’t like a lot of patch). I have the body spray and the oil, and there might be a few seconds of weak chocolate in the spray.
You can get Valentina’s Home-Brewed products at health food stores (both brick and mortar and on-line).
In terms of Jo Malone, I own FBs of Blue Agava & Cacao and Red Roses. I want a FB of Vintage Gardenia (one of the few white florals I would wear), but it’s been discontinued 🙁
I bet True Love layers beautifully with Red Roses!
Sounds like a great combo! The True Love perfume oil is really nice. Although, now I want to experiment with baking this weekend – a chocolate cake with pistachios and rose water sounds very yummy.
It’s going to be a beautiful day here (sunny and about 72 degrees) and I plan to be outside a lot, so I’m wearing one of my favorite summer scents, Jo Malone Vanilla& Anise. It lasts a long time on me, but if I need to, I’ll be spritzing a little more on later in the day, so that I can enjoy it at its best all day long.
I don’t have anything from this perfumer. I am probably one of the only one out there that does not like Jo Malone. Oh well
I’m not a fan either, but for the sake of challenging myself, I put on some JoMa scents.
I don’t like them either. At least the ones I’ve tried haven’t impressed me.
Its not that I don’t like them – I just find most of them uninspiring. They tend to be light, pretty, and easy to wear which really just isn’t my style. And they are pushed so hard at my local Norstrom’s, with the entire line in front and taking up a lot of room. The only Jo Malone that I really like is Saffron – which is mostly just saffron and vanilla to me and it smells great. I’d take a bottle of that one 😉
I feel the same way – they are very approachable and that’s just not me either
But what fragrance are you wearing??
I haven’t smelled a Jo Malone that I liked. I find them uniformly uninteresting. Even things I should love, like Rosewater & Vanilla, which should be an instant win for me, just bore me. I know they have their market, and that’s terrific, but I’m not in it.
Jo Malone scents just beg to be mixed, but my wallet just hugs itself tightly.
🙁
I have to fly today, plus forgot today was theme day, and went with Cristalle. I think it will do its job nicely.
Yes, that’s a good one for being in close quarters with strangers. If only everyone was so considerate…
The only Christine Nagel perfume I have at the moment is Baiser Volé, so that’s my choice today. I have one Jo Malone, Vintage Gardenia, but decided I needed some lily today to brighten things up, as it’s grey and showery. Happy weekend everyone.
Love BV, but it is not Christine Nagel — it’s Mathilde Laurent! You smell great anyway.
Thank you, Robin.
Haha, repeat 100 times: I must do my homework! Should have gone with the Vintage Gardenia. Now I don’t have ANY Christine Nagel in my collection, though I have had a few in the past. Must rectify this situation.
Ha, or, just take the easy route and stick with the BV 🙂
Coulda worn Theorema but I went with the only other Nagel I own, the equally discontinued B*Men. Astringent rhubarb plus spicy-smoky wood with a bit of creaminess to round it out. Amazing.
Wow, this sounds like something I must try.
It’s hard to come by, but worth trying if you should find some: the rhubarb is NOT KIDDING — it’s just vicious, in a good way. This doesn’t smell like anything else on the market.
Fantastic scent, and totally forgot she had anything to do with it.
I wouldn’t have known either if I hadn’t combed through your indispensable list to find a scent she’d worked on that I owned, something I’m sure many of us did.
Since I don’t own any Jo Malone or anything by Christine Nagel, I am continuing on with my Nest coffret. The last scent of the coffret is Midnight Fleur. This one I am having no problem smelling. The sillage is quite strong. I don’t dislike it, but it may be more appropriate to cooler weather. Also, when Dahlia & Vines developed, I could smell it quite well, and I quite like it. It had a greater lasting power than the other three scents in the coffret, and I could still smell it on my skin this morning when I woke up. The sillage stayed moderate. I still like Paradise and Indigo the best of the five scents in the coffret. On to something different next time. I think I’ll sample some Jo Malones from STC.
Your weeklong project has inspired me to give this line another chance. I remember liking one of them much more than the others, but of course I don’t know which one it was. (I was also pregnant and everything was out of whack.) Next time I’m in Sephora I’m going to test all of them. I think I really want to love one of them so I can buy the pretty bottle.
That’s what I thought, too–the Nest perfumes were okay, but I love those bottles.
This week has been so “meh” for me perfume-wise. I’ve been wearing samples to use them up and realizing I’m very indifferent to most of them. Need to get back to the ones I want to wear next week. The culmination of Meh this week has been to put on a JoMa scent. I have a little box of “whatever” perfume samples. Stuff I’m not really into, but aren’t necessarily bad, which is where I pulled my scents for today. I threw on some Wild Bluebell and Orange Blossom.
Well, you’ll just have to go all out this weekend then!
I got nothing!
Used to have JM Bergamot and Oud oil spray but the little I have left has turned and I need to trash it.
So, in the spirit of a revolutionary non-conformism, I am wearing PdE Corsica Furiosa- that opening blast is fantastic!
Happy Memorial Weekend to all in the U.S.! Remember those who served and paid the ultimate price.
Love CF 🙂
And in my town, we do a traditional Memorial Day, with a huge parade ending in a service at the graveyard. It’s lovely.
Theorema for me today! Seems to be a popular choice 😉 It’s on the cooler side today, so Theorema is working nicely.
None of my random purse samples fit the theme so I’m wearing Byredo La Tulipe
La Tulipe is charming! Hope all is going well with your move, and that you have your full range of scents to explore again soon. Be well.
Well my stuff was supposed to come here by today but it has been pushed back to Sun. It’s very annoying….
Aaaaaaarh! Here’s hoping you get them by Sunday. That’s over a week’s delay!
I know! It’s frustrating to exist on Freschiiissimo and random samples
Nooooo! Hang in there, and adding to Hajusuuri’s hopes for smooth unloading and unpacking Sunday.
I am wearing Mauboussin Histoire d’Eau which is a very nice spicy, leathery oriental with a nice dose of citrus. Too warm for outside, but perfect for the chilled air of my office.
You smell terrific. I recently bought a new (to me) handbag, and sprayed a card with Hd’E to put in it.
I had planned to wear Wood Sage & Sea Salt (on my wish list) or my bottle of Earl Grey & Cucumber, but it was too cold this morning, so I decided to put some Wild Fig & Cassis from a sample instead. A bit greener than I would want it to be this morning, but very nice nonetheless.
Wild Fig and Cassis is nice in the cold. It gives me hope for sunny days ahead. 🙂
SOTD is Chopard Madness, Christine Nagel, perfumer. Madness is definitely a love-it or hate-it scent. Aggressive and bold in the opening, it softens to warm woods/spice with a mixed floral of rose and hibiscus. Since woody/spicy is my favorite fragrance genre, I do like this one. A little dab’ll do ya, as the saying goes. I especially love the palisander/Pao Rosa wood notes, Madness was my first encounter with these notes I have grown to love. Fortunately, it’s cool today, as both Madness – and Theorema, which I also enjoy – are definitely fall/winter scents I’d ordinarily never wear on a glorious spring day.
I just read the list of notes for Madness. Sounds like I might like it. How strong is the nubuck note (In general, I don’t like notes in the leather category)?
I’m not fond of leather, either, and on me, I don’t smell a ‘nubuck’ or leather note. percse. The drydown is velvety, perhaps that’s where the nubuck comes in, or perhaps it’s a combination of the rosewood and cotton flower (as listed in Fragrantica, although comments there keep referring to ‘cotton candy,’ it’s not that! and it’s not really sweet either) It’s strong, almost harsh in its opening, the pink pepper is noticeable, and you must like woods to enjoy this scent (I’m very fond of cedar but many aren’t and these woods are reminiscent of cedar in a way). The florals are soft and diffused, really, spice and woods is what I get the most.
Should be ‘per se,’ don’t know what the heck ‘percse’is!
Thanks so much for the details!
I haven’t found a JM that agrees with me, so I wearing Chanel Bel Respiro instead!
In vintage Diorissimo…. Love it, but it is fleeting on me….
Forgot about the project and spritzed on Coco Noir this morning, but I can easily add a dab of Jo Malone Red Roses later today
I used to have lots of Jo Malone long before they were acquired by Estee Lauder. I still have a few (some of which I am sure are discontinued) but never think of wearing them now as I have moved on to different types of perfumes. Today I am Katrina’s scent twin with Chanel Bel Respiro.
I’m at Mom’s with no JMs except Amber and Lavender which I only use as a room spray due to high headache potential so I sprayed the furniture with it and doused myself in Padparadscha instead. Do I get partial credit? I would wear Blackberry & Bay if I had a bottle but I keep putting it off as too safe. Maybe when I’m working in an office again.
Actually, I got a hugely rose scented hug from Mom as she left for a luncheon and I smell faintly of Padparadscha (which doesn’t last long for me) and SSS Velvet Rose which makes a very interesting mix: rose-clove-vinegar-incense.
Which one contributes the vinegar?
To me Padparadscha is vinegary.
Fascinating! I just got spices, and then I swapped it away. Do you like the vinegariness?
The only Nagel I have is YR Rose Absolue, a nice rose liqueur. It does, however, bring home the fact that I am not a rose soliflore fan.
Rose Absolue is my favorite Nagel scent, but like the others I mentioned above, not a springtime scent for me. Its lovely cinnamon note says ‘fall.’
Nothing by Nagel on my shelves, and from JM only a sample of Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, which doesn’t suit my mood today. So I’m wearing Bottega Veneta Knot, because I’m very much in the mood for it!
Even though I have a lot of Jo Malone, I only own one by Ms. Nagel. Her creations have something about them that don’t work with me. -Like the opposite of that ‘special something’ that makes me fall in love. So, SOTD is her recent Birch and Black Pepper over Nutmeg and Ginger bath oil, after using Pomegranate Noir soap this morning. I can’t stop sniffing myself.
Yesterday I reported that Wisteria and Violet wasn’t working for me. When it finally wore off I applied French Lime Blossom before taking the baby for a walk. That’s usually a favorite but didn’t hit the spot either. Along the walk I popped into Starbucks because I had a free drink on my card that was set to expire soon. As it turns out, what I really needed was a Venti S’mores Frappacino. 🙂
Funny how a good coffee solves many things!
I had the mini one yesterday! I swore I would never buy that size but it actually ended up perfectly hitting the spot – taste and calorie-wise.
I don’t see the mini size in my future. The first time I tried one I got the tall…and it was gone before I made it out of the parking lot.
I’m in Dolce & Gabbana The One. To me it’s an easier to wear version of Chanel Allure. 🙂
Interesting! I can see that 🙂
Synched in Theorema, ready to support and nurture. 😉
I’m also wearing Theorema, not only in honour of Christine Nagel but also NST. It belongs to a category I call NST Classics – not the usual suspects like No 5 or Shalimar, but perfumes I would probably have never heard of without NST. These are not the strange cult-y ones or fashionable or super luxurious scents, but proper perfumes, sometimes discontinued, always high quality, with a sizeable following on NST. Things like Bulgari Omnia or Jacomo Silences or Donna Karan Black Cashmere. And Theorema.
Love this! And completely agree – NST is an excellent source of information!
I hope Robin sees this. It’s a great idea for an upcoming poll/community project, if it hasn’t been done already.
And for me it is a MakeupAlley classic, because that is where I heard it raved about over and over! Glad to pass on the magic 🙂
I’m wearing the yummy Blackberry & Bay. It’s not by Christine Nagel, but I couldn’t find anything by her in my stash.
You smell perfectly lovely.
I have zero Malone or Nagel, so in “honor” of the 40-something degree weather here this morning, I’m in L’Heure Bleue. Hat tip to Mals for convincing me that it doesn’t have to be only for winter.
40 degrees IS winter as far as I’m concerned.
Me too!
LOL! Yes, but it warmed up this afternoon, unlike the winter.
Miss Dior Cherie! Happy Friday!
I wish I hadn’t missed out on that one! I do wear and enjoy the current version.
Don’t own any Nagel, and only have tiny amounts of JM. Like many others, I am just not that impressed with JM, certainly not enough to own a FB of any thing. I finished my sampler of JM Grapefruit this morning–hooray!
I own only 1 Nagel and it’s the original 2005 miss dior cherie, which I unearthed from the back of my perfume shelf. I got a lot of compliments on it today, but I felt pretty awkward in all the syrupy strawberries. Oh well!
The same happened to me when I was wearing Misia: it really isn’t my thing, but everybody loved it on me.
I only have one Christine Nagel, Si Lolita, so that’s what I’m wearing. It was a Marshall’s lucky blind buy.
Scent twins! I think I got my bottle at Marshall’s too, come to think of it. It was a gift set with the lotion.
Well, it was very interesting to see if I had anything by Nagel besides Theorema and a small decant of Ambre Soie that someone gave me. It turns out she created Oriental Brulant, which I have a decant of. So that was my choice of three for the day (I don’t really care for Jo Malone). I wasn’t really up for Oriental Brulant, which I don’t love, so I went with Ambre Soie–luckily it is a cool foggy morning here–which I had never given a good wearing. Unfortunately, I’m finding it gorgeous! And that’s really rare for me with modern fragrances. I’m loving the anise note, which makes it different than Theorema. Don’t even want to think about how much this one costs!!
By happy coincidence a friend gave me a bottle of Lime Basil and Mandarin yesterday so I am wearing that today. Was disconcerted to notice a very musty “stale skin” effect about halfway through…. does that happen to anyone else? It’s not a keeper for me.
This scent is not pleasant on me at all, and I couldn’t understand its popularity until I smelled it on a friend… On her it was the loveliest citrus ever. So…um, skin chemistry!
I’m wearing Blue Agava & Cacao cream.. not perfume. I used to have the perfume but got rid of it as it started making me queasy but the cream is a little gentler and I love the cacao note.
Her relaunched Osmanthus Blossom I have as a sample and started the day with this but within 10 minutes I knew I needed to reach back in the draw. Wimpy osmanthus note! Blah scent… sorry 🙁
Almost twins! i wore the perfume but it lasted 2 hours tops!
I wasn’t impressed with any of the blossom re-releases either. I thought the best of the three was the Osmanthus, and even that was just meh.
My mom wears the BA&C cream too. It’s so soft and beautiful, like a tropical luxury.
Sadly, not a big fan of Jo Malone either. So I assumed that I would be unable to find a Christine Nagel in my collection.
However, I did manage to find one!! YEAH!
SOTD is Hommage à l’Homme de Lalique (co-created with Mathilde Bijaoui)
BONUS POINTS: I received 3 “Wow, you smell nice!” so far today-which rarely happens.
Three! Nice indeed!
I don’t know what that smells like but congrats! Just curious, do you tend to be more heavy-handed on Fridays?
No, not really. My work place is still technically under a “no fragrance allowed” policy. No one respects it since we all know that the ONE person that had complained has left. i still like to play it safe and avoid over applying.
I only have one Nagel perfume, Archives 69, but was not in the mood for that today. . .so busted out old old JM from early perfumania stirrings. I think this was when perfume changed from an interest to an obsession–in Harrod’s with Wild Fig & Cassis layered with Nutmeg & Ginger. It’s nice. I will always associate it with that trip. I think this also started my perfume travel pilgrimages 😀
I think a bottle of perfume is the greatest souvenir! One spritz can make me feel like I’m there again, rather than just remembering the vacation. Beats a t-shirt any day.
The only JM I have is a sample of Lime, Mandarin and Basil. I fully intended to wear it today, but I got up and sprayed myself with Copal Azur before I remembered! So I dabbed some LMB on the back of my hand. Odd, but not unpleasant. The LMB actually overpowered the CA for about an hour, but then it faded. It’s a gorgeous day here…all good.
Happy Friday Everyone! My SOTD is my absolute favorite perfume – Nectarine Blossom and Honey by Jo Malone. This is the fragrance that started it all for me and sent me down the rabbit hole. I saved the best Jo Malone for today.
I have enjoyed the theme for this week! 🙂
NB&H! I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you. 🙂
I thought for sure you’d be the first one posting today. This is your week… Hope you’ve enjoyed it!!
Mauboussin, which Angela described as, “a perfume that could have scented the runway during Yves Saint Laurent’s Ballets Russes collection.” I should remember to wear it in the fall, but the weather was clear and cool this morning, so I’m pretending it’s not spring. 🙂
Gorgeous. Any Anne Pliska fans who haven’t tried it, should. I’m going to put some on as soon as I finish reading today’s comments.
No Christine Nagel here, so I’m wearing Opardu, a little decant of which I picked up when STC was having a sale on Puredistance. I liked it when I tried it from a vial some time ago, but it has much better presence & longevity from the atomizer. Can’t imagine I’ll ever spring for their aspirational prices, but this is one of the better, non-functional lilacs I’ve tried. Also getting a decent carnation note.
You smell fabulous. Opardu is one of my favorites!
As planned, trying JM Black Vetyver Cafe today. It started out nicely, but despite liberal dousing, it was gone by the time I got to work. Grumble grumble. I do expect perfumes to at least outlast my commute. Mutter mutter mutter. Should worn Theorema.
Laughed out loud at expecting perfumes to outlast your commute. That’s a disappointingly low expectation to not have met. I’ve always liked BVC and, now that it’s discontinued, regret not buying a full bottle. It reminds of of a pancake breakfast. Perhaps that’s why it doesn’t bother me as much if it wears off so early?
I have no JM perfumes and only two by Christine Nagel – Mouboussin and NR For Her EDT. I love love love the Mouboussin but it didn’t seem right for our spring weather here in VA, so I went with the NR. This is usually a bedtime scent for me, but I’ve enjoyed it today.
Wearing my only Jo Malone, Blue Agave & Cacao. Got a compliment from a coworker too. Happy Friday!
Counting minis, I have several by Nagel — I love her way with spices. I could have chosen Rose Absolue or Theorema, but I went for my only full-sized bottle: Si Lolita. It’s a perfect fresh sweet peppery floral for a chilly spring day, I enjoy it so much.
I received a box of JM minis about a decade ago, but never became enamored of any…
JMs that I very much like but do not own: Red Roses, Iris and White Musk, and – though it’s too short-lived Oud and Bergamot. One that I keep verging on actually buying is Geranium & Verbena!
SOTD: D&G Light Blue, which despite its ubiquity (or maybe because of it), I’ve actually never smelled before until now. Can’t say I was missing much. It smells like a fizzy lemonade mocktail on me, and not in a good way. :-/
I remember really liking Dark Amber & Ginger Lily when I tried it years ago. Wish I was wearing that instead!
I’m wearing my only Christine Nagel- Guerlain Gourmand Coqin. Perfect today when I’m tired and the weather is rainy and windy.
You smell great! I love Gourmand Coquin!
In my opinion this is the best vanilla scent ever created…
SOTD = Jo Malone Blue Agava & Cacao
I love Jo Malone fragrances and own 21 FBs (3 are 100 mLs) and 11 minis. Accounting for duplicates and excluding decants and samples, I have 378 dual-layering and 3,276 triple-layering possibilities. Yes, I’m a nerd 🙂
The Blue Agava & Cacao smelled great but was anemic in both longevity and sillage. I took the opportunity to try Puredistance White. Wowee! On the flip side, it reminds me a lot of AG Heure Exquise but I do not have it handy for comparison. Heure Exquise on discount is less than 1/10 the price of White!
Impressive.
Wearing Jo Malone Tudor Rose and Amber, from a sample, which is both a JM and by Christine Nagel. As saffron is not listed as one of the notes, I am officially completely ignorant of what a rose/saffron scent actually smells like. I’ll have to sniff some actual saffron and see if that helps. I wanted to wear Mauboussin, but was afraid it’d be a little much for the allergist’s office. When the TR&A fades (which seemed to happen much sooner the first time I wore it–has anyone else noticed that when you’re waiting for a short-lived perfume to fade so you can wear something else, it seems to last twice as long?), I plan to break out the Mauboussin. I can use the bonus points, having been very dilatory lately. This weekend I plan to finally read all the haikus and limericks from last weekend, having failed utterly to compose one of my own in a timely manner. And I see that in two weeks, we’ll be scenting a literary character. I’m going to have to start thinking about it nowish. I’ve already written out my post for the Freebiemeet tomorrow, so that’s something. (And now I’m starting to babble. Time to read everyone else’s comments, and do a few chores, and get some sleep.)
I like that law of physics you have outlined there.
I was actually surprised by the lack of love for JM scents with this community project!Very interesting!!My favorite from the line is the Red Roses Cologne, and Ginger Cookie was lovely too.Yesterday’s SOTD was Lutens Louve though.Love the almondy-cherry marzipan of Louve.Sooo good.Happy Weekend!I’m on a fragrance sabbatical for a bit…
I’m not familiar with Louve, will add it to my sample list. It sounds really nice though. I really like the similar scent combo in L’Artisan’s Traversee du Bosphore. Do you know how it compares?
