Happy Earth Day! What fragrance are you wearing to celebrate?
In lieu of actually kissing dirt to mark the day, I'm wearing Isabelle Doyen's fantastic Turtle Vetiver Front for LesNez.
Reminder: this Friday, 24 April, wear something from Annick Goutal or perfumer Isabelle Doyen.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good Morning! I will be in the garden all day so no scent until later. Maybe some Encre Noire……
That sounds like fun, enjoy!
I envy you, being in your garden, Stinker Kit…. Love Encre Noire…
Goutal’s Myrrhe Ardente. I wanted to include one of the 4 Orientalistes and today seemed like a myrrh day. I’ve never tried Turtle Front but I have a sample set of Back, which is great. I mean the fragrance is great. ( of course having a sample set is a great pleasure as well)
I wish they’d do another vetiver, but maybe they are done. Hope LesNez is not done altogether…
Yes it’s disturbingly quiet on that front.
Hmmm. It is rather weird. Manoumalia got a new bottle and a huge price increase, and everything else just vanished. Hopefully they’re just slow on giving them new looks too? One can hope…
I just checked their site and all 4 fragrances have been given new bottles, very pretty ones. I can’t remember how much I paid for Manoumalia, but they still sell generous samples at a reasonable price.
Isn’t Stephane Humbert Lucas the perfumer / front-man / brand ambassador for LesNez? Maybe he’s too busy promoting his namesake luxury niche line with prices to match.
As far as I know the owner is called René Schifferle and he has worked with 2 perfumers: Sandrine Videault for Manoumalia and Isabelle Doyen for the rest of the collection.
Yes, that’s right.
Aha, I was actually thinking of Nez a Nez! I stand corrected.
Back is great, too.
I love it, but then I love nearly all vetivers but this one is pretty special. I also love the Vétiver she did for Goutal.
AG Vétiver is one of my favs, too! That makes sense now, knowing that she also did it.
One of those vetivers that suffers no fools 😉
Earth Day should be everyday
Will be making a nice donation to my favorite non profit for Earth Day
In Bois Blonds SOTD
It should!
Have an elegant lunch to attend today, which’ll be perfect for a discreet application of my just-discovered Heure Exquise. Find the edt to be fairly long-lived (a nice surprise, must be a somewhat older bottle). Back to 40 degrees today 🙁
Fun, hope it is a lovely lunch!
Great to read you are wearing HE, and I totally think it fits an elegant lunch. Sorry about your temperatures!
HE is very beautiful, and perfect for a special lunch.
Celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day with a mini nature getaway for the next few days, hoping to see some early migrating birds and spring wildflowers in bloom. Leaving the camping gear home this trip – it’s been co-o-old this week, woke up to patches of wet, white stuff on the ground! – staying at a historic lodge in a state park instead. But we have warm clothes, bird and wildflower identification books, binoculars and healthy snacks and I have my ‘outdoorsy’ scents with me. SOTD is Clinique Wrappings, a vintage mini of Ted Lapidus Creation for tomorrow, and I’ll be joining you on Friday in AG Mandragore. (Just in case, I also brought a few SSS samples of her woodsy scents to enjoy in front of the huge old stone fireplace at night. I couldn’t help myself!) Wishing everyone a great rest of the week and a wonderful weekend ahead.
Clinique Wrappings is beautiful.
Have fun!!
Oh, your trip sounds heavenly! I hope the birding is good!
SOTD: Eau du Sud (Annick Goutal) 🙂
Still one of my favorite AGs.
Ninfeo Mio for me today thanks to NST!
Hiram Green Shangri La. I’m not so sure about my compatibility with this one. I like part of it very much, but there’s simultaneously some combination of notes that reminds me of Opium, and that’s making me a bit uncomfortable, since it feels too heavy for a sunny spring day. We’ll see how this progresses throughout the day, since I really want this one to work for me.
Ok, so it turns out I love the drydown. Quite a treat for the end of a day.
That is a great perfumista story you have there, Eleebelle. I’m so glad you were rewarded with a drydown you love. I haven’t tried any of the Hiram Greens yet. Everyone seems to love them here on the blogs. Now you’ve made me more curious. I like things that have a big arc, scents that are really non linear. Will stick it in my to try list, once Mt. Sample shrinks just a smidge 😀
SOTD: Estee Lauder Private Collection.
Have a conference today. Need something that suggests “I mean business”.
Private Collection certainly fits the bill! It always makes me feel fresh and composed. Good luck!!
I WAS going to wear Volutes today, but I forget and left the house with no perfume (gasp!!!!!). Luckily, the honey musk body cream I put on last night is still going strong.
I recently acquired samples of Mitsouko edt and edp. I think I’ll try them out tonight – I am detected to “get” this one, even if I don’t love it 😉
Not sure that I’m on message, but as I bought the En Passant travel set yesterday, I of course had to wear it – lilacs have just started to bloom here. I smell less of the cucumber then I remembered and more of something like pollen or honey, almost like a sweet linden note (is that the wheat?). But no matter, it’s absolutely lovely.
Lilacs blooming are my favorite part of spring! Unfortunately, there aren’t many around where I live now. Glad you have blooms and a beautiful perfume to enjoy 🙂
I love lilacs, too, my grandmother used to have them when I was little and I’ve always lived in places (Nord-ish Europe) where there are some.
En Passant, together with Angéliques sous la Pluie, was my first Malle purchase. It’s such a successful interpretation of the note. I love lilacs too, there are plenty of them in Dutch gardens.
It’s in fact my first, too – I received the coffret as a present, so I had 5ml of everything. With POAL this is enough for some time, but with En Passant not quite.
The community projects are just on Fridays, so no need to be on message the rest of the week, and even Friday is not compulsory, obviously! Wear what you like 🙂
I will 🙂 I was just contemplating if there was some meaningful connection between lilacs and Earth Day, but gave up. Never felt any pressure on NST to wear or not to wear something, that’s why I love it here.
Happy Earth Day, one and all. I was woken up at 6:30 this morning by a very chipper 5 year old coming in to my room and saying “Happy Earth Day, Mommy!”
Now wearing Caleche, as it is perfect today and every day.
I could go for that kind of wake up myself.
Super cute wake up!
I missed all the turtles- back, front and center, but I’m sure you smell great!
SOTD is PdE Equistrius. My decant is dwindling… So sad 🙁
That is a tasty one, for sure. Still loving that sample set – think I got it 3 years ago…
Doing a bunch of errands today, and trying to repair the sagging shelves in my closet (EEP!!) Haven’t chosen a scent yet, but it’s likely to be either The Unicorn Spell or Heure Exquise, depending on which I find first.
Back with (I hope) the means to repair the shelves. Gah.
And I ran across my sample of Nuit Etoilee first, so that is what I was wearing. It’s gone now. Predictably, it’s not nearly floral enough for my tastes, although I find it pleasant and would probably enjoy it more as an ambiance sort of fragrance.
Now, I think I will go spritz some Crown Bouquet for that big ol’ smackeroonie of galbanum+marigold. It just makes me silly happy.
Fix those shelves, you don’t want to have everything collapse & land in a heap! Will try Crown Bouquet one of these (warmer) days, though marigold can sometimes be tricky. Back to cool weather frags, it just SNOWED.
Oh, they already collapsed. Luckily the stuff sitting on them was just towels and sheets, no perfume. 🙂
Come to find out yesterday that the reason the shelves on MY side of the closet didn’t stand up to the weight and the ones on The CEO’s side did was that he never put in the side supports on my side!! Oops. So I’m going to try to remedy that issue today.
Crown Bouquet is unfortunately discontinued… found mine at… perfume.com, I think? About five years ago. The middle of it is very very soft white flowers and the base is musk and maybe a bit of cedar, but that galbanum SLAP is so awesome.
Uh, oh. (insert transporter sound here)
Another lemming born, Mals! I didn’t know Crown Bouquet is galbanum and marigold. Marigold is one of my favorite floral notes, and I share your green floral love. (Though Mt. Sample looms. . .)
I love the stuff. I don’t even know if it can be found these days (curse Mr. Christian).
I had the same idea, sort of. I’m wearing Vetiver Tonka—a sweetened, tamed vetiver for those of us who can’t handle the full-strength stuff.
*sheepishly raising hand*
Continuing on with my Annick Goutal samples today, with Songes. I don’t have much left of this sample, but what I do have is enough for several applications, since a little dab will do ya.
Definitely only need a little bit of Songes! And it lasts forever.
Just ordered a sample of Songes. Can’t believe I’ve never tried it.
I’m trying Eau Illuminee from Parfums Delrae; it kind of smells like a Shalimar for men.
That sounds awesome. I want to get a sample for the boyfriend!
You should. It’s nice! Shalimar with lavender.
Habit Rouge? 😉
So interesting. I got a big hit of something in the direction of basil and as a result would never have thought about Shalimar.
SOTD is Mon Parfum Cheri par Camille, EDP, another great Goutal and a wonderful iris (patchouli plum).
A gorgeous Goutal!
Swoon at first sniff! Do you prefer the EDT or the EDP?
EDP.
Love this – it’s as if Fath Iris Gris had a Goth granddaughter. 🙂
I’ve never smelled Iris Gris but I can see your point.
I think all sorts of interesting parentage was discussed when it got it’s first online reviews. Rochas Femme (the original), Boxeuses, Bois de Violettes and Voleur de Roses were mentioned. One thing is certain, this is no shy lady!
I’m wearing L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse…not especially for Earth Day
but because it was the one I grabbed and sprayed before rushing out the door for work. I agree that every day should be Earth Day.
Weather report – snow flurries, intermittent white out driving. Ugh.
SOTD = Copal Azur. Happy snuggle.
You poor thing. Is the Copal Azur helping?
The Copal Azur is great!
You still have snow?! Is spring always so late where you are?
Spring is erratic where I am. The last hard frost day is the middle of May, but sometimes it skips us. This snow this morning didn’t last long and didn’t stick. Supposed to go down to 28 degrees tonight, since my cherry trees are just starting to bloom. Lala.
Annick Goutal Un Matin d’Orage. I was inspired by all the love/wear it received yesterday from a lot of you.
Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois today, because sometimes you just want to feel capable of commanding a room.
I really, really want to try the Shiseido version some day….it’s the kind of thing I’d probably even buy a bottle of blind, I love its successor so much.
Hope you all have a lovely day.
Yes, if only for the pretty bottle! I like the current version, you smell fabulous, and I may copy you tomorrow 😉
Please do!
I adore FdB and am almost afraid to try the Shiseido version – what if it’s even better?
I have a sneaking suspicion that it is….
The Shiseido version is certainly excellent, but I haven’t tried the SL, so I can’t compare. Risky business, indeed.
On one wrist is Passion and on another is Songes…the former is splendid the latter is not so on my skin (smells like pencil shavings. Is there cedar in the base?) Much better longevity on both, however.
I just applied Hawaiian Ruby Guava by Pacifica (from a rollerball — I’m at work). I smell like all-natural fruit punch, and I am enjoying it.
PSA for those who love meteor showers: According to NASA, “The best time to catch the [annual Lyrid meteor] shower is between about 11 pm on April 22nd and sunrise on April 23rd, in any timezone in the northern hemisphere.” Here is a link: http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2015/21apr_lyrids2015/.
I was looking forward to seeing the meteors but our forecast is for cloudy skies overnight. 🙁 Your Pacifica sounds interesting, the only fruit punch perfume I have is Badgley Mischka.
Yeah, it’s supposed to be overcast here, too 🙁
I have a Pacifica rollerball for work too! Mine is the lemon blossom…
At work, I always keep a rollerball of Pacifica Island Vanilla because vanilla is very calming to me, and work is not! Now that I have a full bottle of Essences Insensees (Diptyque), I keep my sample at work. I got that idea from someone on NST 🙂
Is Pacifica going out of business? I noticed that every fragrance item on the website is significantly reduced including the choose three spray coffret set (which is selling now for $40.00)?
Oh, I hope not! Pacifica is one of my favorite cheap and cheerful brands. Sometimes companies have sales when they are changing packaging, so maybe that’s it? I like their artwork, so I hope that they don’t change that.
I thought it was an Earth Day treat.
I saw (in the last two weeks) new, full displays of their fragrances at both Target and Whole Foods in Santa Fe. Seasonal changeover, maybe?
I also saw a ton of the shower gels at TJMaxx. Are they thinning the herd?
Catching up on Goutals with an Orientalists frenzy: Myrrh Ardente last night, Encens Flamboyant today, and just switched to Ambre Fetiche for bed. Work totally sucked tonight and my amber hug is working a treat.
I remember at school we always planted trees on Arbor Day, but I dont think most kids even know what it is now.. 🙁 hopefully they’re all doing something positive for Earth Day 🙂
I wore the myrrhe yesterday and am on to the ambre today. I find it much bolder than yesterday’s sample. Even delightful in the sun.
Perhaps I will copy you and dig up my encens sample, too…
I put on a little FM Portrait of a Lady today. Apparently today is also Administrative Professionals Day because I was surprised with a few gifts when I got in the office.
It was supposed to rain today, but so far it’s been gorgeous and sunny out, so I’m not complaining and enjoying the nice weather while it lasts!
Right now, I am going commando until my shower but I’m wasting time on the Now Smell this and trolling E-bay. I’m thinking about wearing Nasomatto Nuda today or Jicky but Nuda is about the only tuberose/jasmine scent that I can stand (tuberose is one of my enemies).
LOL, that’s exactly what I’m doing! I was just looking at a Deneuve perfume ad, that is, for her own perfume. It’s a black and white photo with a red lipstick spot on her nose, like a clown nose, spoofing her ubiquitous Chanel ads, I guess. The tag line was something like, “Inside every woman there is another woman. I designed this perfume for the woman inside.”
I know there is a mini and a 1 ounce bottle being sold but I have four minis and two bottles of Deneuve so I’m set for a while. Still haven’t made it to the shower and added Theorema to the list for SOTD since it’s cold and I started having some snow outside.
Lot’s of interesting things today – my credit cards are nagging me to get off ebay and get busy. 😉
Which reminds me of that famous Abfab quote: “Inside me there is this thin person screaming to get out” “Just the one dear?”
Sample number 2: Mon Parfum Cheri, Par Camille.
Nice violet dirtied by some patchouli and rounded with a dark plum. I was afraid of this one (the first few seconds are a bit nose-wrinkling), but I quite like it now.
Im afraid to try that one too. Patchouli and I dont get along very well, and Im worried she’ll just ruin it for me.
Yeah, I haven’t even tried that one. I know me ‘n patchouli. 🙁
This sounds really good. Will have to add it to my list…
I get quite a bit of iris in there too.
I have a small bit of Mon Parfum…. i get so much dirty, dry patch out of it that it reads imbalanced to my nose. Something is off with my sniffer or a musk, but it just goes right to the base and I don’t smell anything else. Too bad – the bottle is just gorgeous!
I rounded up my Annick Goutal samples and minis yesterday so I’m ready to try one of the AGs that I don’t know very well. Also, I was wearing Nuit Etoilee EdT yesterday and opened a vial of Knize Sec. It seemed like a potentially interesting combination and I’m tempted to try that out.
For Earth Day, I spritzed on Bond No. 9 I Love NY Earth Day. On me, there is a lot of LOTV. It’s green, but not too much so.
I’m thinking about buying a bottle of this from one of the discounters. My local Saks doesn’t carry this line of Bn9 any longer. I remember a tuberose note, and I’m a guy who loves this big white floral. 🙂
I forgot about Earth Day when I picked my SOTD, but the woodiness of Ormonde Jayne Woman seems to fit.
Woman is perfect for earth day! You smell like the most elegant pine forest ever!
SOTD for Earth Day is Vetiverio, which I haven’t worn in awhile – almost like having something new 😉
It’s chilly here today so after my early morning dental appt. I wore the warm and spicy EL Youth Dew Amber Nude.
Bottega Veneta Knot from a sample. I have one of those magazine/catalog inserts of Knot sitting around, so I thought I would give my sample another go. I wasn’t too excited about Knot when I first tried it, but it’s really very nice. It brings some spring to a day (week?) when Mother Nature decided to ignore the calendar, and gently remind us that cold/wind/clouds is a thing she can whip out on a whim.
My daughter’s prom is this weekend, and Saturday night’s predicted low is 37F. Pondering wraps/shawls.
Wraps and shawls. Sweaters. (Fur stoles?) Keep that girl warm!!
Our high school’s prom is always early as well; the day of my daughter’s senior prom was so windy that we could hardly get any good pictures outside.
So exciting about prom! My daughter and I just ordered her prom dress online. I hope the weather warms up – at least cold is better than cold and rain! Will she wear perfume?
Has anyone else wearing Songes ever noticed a root beer note? It’s about three hours into wearing it, and that is what I’m getting right now.
Lots of pencil shavings on my skin….what are the base notes? all I can find is vanilla but there has to be more…cedarwood?
Perfume Intelligence lists the edp differently from the edt. The description of the edp is “notes of frangipani, ylang ylang, jasmine, vanilla, vetiver, sandalwood and amber.” The edt is described as “notes of frangipani, tiare, jasmine notes, incense, vanilla, copahu balm, pepper, ylang-ylang absolute, vetiver, sandalwood, amber and styrax.” I’m not sure where my root beer notes are coming in, but sandalwood and vetiver may be where your pencil shavings are coming in.
I am fairly confident that my sample is edt….the notes listed are notes that I very much like…and yet, Songes just wasn’t for me…it reminded me a bit of Angel (which, aside from the sweet aspect, also had the pencil shavings to my nose)
SOTD is AG’s Les Nuits d’Hadrien. It’s going very ‘cleaning product’ on me, unfortunately. Not a bad smell, but not something I want to smell on me 🙂
This was one of the first FBs I bought when I was able to wear perfume again (after 25 years of hyperreaction to scent of any kind). I’m prone to having things smell synthetic, but this doesn’t do that on me. With more experimentation under my belt, it is a bit simple, cologne-y, though.
In Ferre for Keep It Simple Wednesday. Certain work days I’m like, “What? I am here on time and NOT in pyjamas – count yourself lucky…”
In my surlier early years I owned a T-shirt that said, “I’m up and dressed. What more do you want?” I wore it, too.
Me too! I have a head cold – AGAIN! – and had a full day meeting. The only thing I could muster was a very light spray of Ferre. But now that I’m home I’m taking advantage of AG and put on a soul restoring spritz of Mandragore Pourpre.
I LOVE that reaction. I was such a wuss in my corporate days.
Today I’m wearing AG Le Chevrefeuille, which is green honeysuckle perfection on this blustery spring day. I am debating buying a bottle, but maybe a decant will be enough.
Do it! I felt the same as you, but finally got my bottle last week. It’s discontinued and only available at 1 discounter (that I could find), so I got nervous. I did wait just long enough for a good coupon code – it’s at beauty encounter.
Not sure what’s going on with Goutal’s distribution–neither Nordstrom nor NM seems to carry the line anymore. But it’s well represented on Saks’ site, and they even have Le Chevrefeuille in the new packaging. But yeah, much better deal at Beauty Encounter.
Wow – I checked the AG site some time ago and it wasn’t there. Since it wasn’t there and no other discounters had it, I thought it was dc/d. Now I see it there and Saks! Crazy! Well, still happy with my bottle.
Thanks, odonata! I was having trouble finding it at a decent price anywhere online.
Congrats on your bottle, I’ve been debating for years now.
Wearing L’Artisan Poivre Piquant today. Love the peppery open, as well as the milk and honey notes. Not quite FBW. Close, though. Maybe I’ll try layering it with something to tone down its high pitch.
I adore Poivre Piquant! I’ve gone through a few samples of it already, however, the last sample I owned had a pronounced licorice note to it that I couldn’t tolerate, so I swapped it away. I wonder if it it was just an old sample/had gone off?
There’s definitely a licorice/anise note in it, that comes and goes. I don’t mind it at all, in fact I like it!
SOTD: Serge Lutens Arabie, which smells a lot like a bath bomb from Lush. There’s an herbal/cedar/sweet, almost soapy smell to it that’s rather pleasant. Lately I’ve been in somewhat of a purging mood, so I’m making a concerted effort to drain all my samples before I start acquiring any more. Also, the weather has been wonderfully cool and truly spring-like lately, so I’m taking advantage by wearing those scents that stand up well to the lower temperatures.
Happy Earth Day, everyone!
Taking a quick look at your attractive blog – thinking the curious French cat by Sylvia Plath would make a wonderful gravatar.
Happy Earth Day to you, too!
Aww, thanks nozknoz! It’s been awhile since I last updated it. And you’re right about that French cat!
Estee Lauder Sensuous Noir for me today. It hasn’t been terribly rainy the last few days, but it’s still been kind of cloudy, so I haven’t really been craving my springier scents.
SOTD is the beautiful DSH American Beauty and I am loving it ; )
That’s a pretty one.
SOTD: A fabulous little store called the Alchemist closed in Denver not too long ago. She had the best perfumes, and introduced me to some great ones. So sad she didn’t make a go of it…construction all around her. But I wanted to help her with her final sale, and got a couple perfumes I would not normally have tried. One is Santa Maria Novella Gardenia, which I have on today; it seems very “earthy” for Earth Day. I smell dirt, and leaves and a bit of the gardenia. I love it, and didn’t expect to. Anyone else like it?
Also got some Caterina de Medici, which I like and a linden scent.
Tauer’s Rose Flash today. Love this, and now I’m curious about his vanilla. I bought the rollerball of this, but may need the Rose Flash spray, it’s that pretty and amazingly long wearing. It does not have the usual Tauer base, so if you’ve not fared well with the others in the line, but do like photoreal jammy roses, try this. (*quietly–I like it even better than my beloved Rose Jam wash*) Be well.
The Vanilla Flash is not a “soliflore” style fragrance – in fact on me it isn’t even mainly vanilla. I am wearing it right now and getting spices, tobacco and rose, reminiscent of PHI Rose de Kandahar. Quite surprising and lovely.
Rose Flash reminded me a great deal of Rose Jam, but more intense.
Hi all,
I’ve been absent for awhile now. We had another death in the family, this was someone I was quite close to and it was very hard to say goodbye. It’s been a rough year.
I hope everyone had a good Earth day.
SOTD: Les Nereides Patchouli Antique
I am so sorry Sajini. May you know no more sorrow.
I’m so sorry Sanji. Take gentle care. Nice to have you back.
Very sorry to hear this, do take care of yourself!
My condolences…and so sorry it’s been a rough year.
