Actor Richard E Grant has launched Jack Covent Garden, his second fragrance.
Jack Covent Garden eau de parfum is the second unisex fragrance by British actor Richard E. Grant. Its exuberant combination conjures up the essence of the historic fresh fruit and vegetable market celebrated in My Fair Lady, and the traditional home of theatre in London. Jack Covent Garden is “sleeved” in a Union Jack calico bag, with a luggage label attached, to personalise once opened. It is made in Great Britain.
The notes feature orange, rose, ginger, lime, carrot, pimento, iris and musk.
Richard E Grant Jack Covent Garden is available now at Selfridges in the UK, in 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
(via selfridges)
Update: Jack Covent Garden was developed by perfumer Aliénor Massenet.
Popped into selfridges today to have a sniff around and saw the Durand that had been set up to promote this fragrance and was having a sniff when I heard a voice next to me telling me the notes – I looked around and it was Mr Grant himself who had popped in to see how things were going.
What a charming man he is. He certainly seems to take it very seriously and knows his stuff, I found his passion and enthusiasm as he was telling me about the fragrance very inspiring. The fragrance itself I enjoyed – when I first put it on it nearly blew my nose off with a smell of almost pure alcohol and as it settled and developed it became very pretty indeed.
What a wonderful surprise to meet Mr Grant! I can’t believe The Player was released almost 25 yrs ago. Loved his Tom Oakley character in that movie.
How cool is that!! Wish he had a distributor in the US.
Love that story!
Oddly spellcheck changed display into ‘durand’ ! Lol
Ah, was wondering what that was…
Sounds very pretty! Love Covent Gardens and of course My Fair Lady. The scene with Eliza at Covent Gardens in the morning when they unncover all the blooms always makes me misty.
Sounds like you need a bottle 🙂
The first was exclusive to Liberty for a year, but is now out of the exclusive period & more widely available in selfridges, Harvey Nichols etc so I’m sure it may turn up in the U.S. at some point! Not sure how long selfridges have the exclusive for on the second one.
I love his enthusiasm for everything it does whether it’s acting, presenting (his ‘hotel secrets, series were great fun) and he’s always been obsessed with sniffing anything he can get his hands on so he seems to have really embraced this venture too.
I’m not sure who actually produces the fragrance but he seemed to suggest it was his own little start-up – the fact that he insisted the fragrances should be made in the UK and that he seems to have a major stake in the venture itself rather than just signing a contract and sticking his face on the ads makes it a much more acceptable face of celebrity fragrance in my mind.
Raining on the parade, but the wrapping in calico sounds very twee!
He did the same for the first one. It’s just a Union Jack bag that the bottle is in inside the box – it cushions the bottle inside the box, has his beloved Union Jack print that he loves so much and can be used as a little carry bag to keep the bottle in when travelling etc.
Waaaaaay better than those perfumes that are sold in leather cases to prove how luxe they are. This is so precious – we had to kill an animal for it! 😮
He’s manning the stand in selfridges in London for the entire day today from opening to close – hanging around on the stand, chatting and signing bottles – that’s dedication !
