It's BWF Friday! Our community project for today: wear a big white floral. Partial credit for diet white florals, a wee bitsy dash of credit for other sorts of flowers. What did you pick?
As always, do chime in with your fragrance of the day even if you're not participating in the community project.
I'm (predictably!) in vintage Robert Piguet Fracas. And plenty of it.
Reminder: next Friday, 4/17, is Dealer's Choice: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I am in vintage Chloe parfum….takes me back to high school in the late 70s….traipsing down the hallway wafting in Chloe edt! This is definitely a BWF!
Have a great weekend all!
Hey, I have fond memories of that one too!
Was there ever a better perfume? (In terms of how it smelled at the time.) I wonder how I would have reacted if I’d been able to smell Amouage Gold then.
noz-
I agree….and my vintage parfum still smells quite good….it amazes me when I think about the scents I wore in high school….Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Halston, Rive Gauche, no5, no19,no 22, Private Collection, Aliage…some real powerhouses that I don’t think a teenager of today would be caught dead wearing-LOL!
LOL, imagine! Although I guess it’s more a question of what older generations are cynically putting out there with Kristen Stewart’s face than anything inherent in the current teenage generation.
I wore Chloe for a decade, in my teen years – from middle school through college! So it’s sort of fraught for me now, but it really was a great scent.
Vintage Chloe was almost my choice, too! I loved it madly in the 80s – it was my signature scent, but like Mals, I found it a bit “fraught” this morning and decided to wear a different scent. But it is still so beautiful! I love your other high school favorites, too.
I wore the vintage EdT today! I’m not really a BWF girl, but I recently bought a partial bottle for nostalgia’s sake, and I quite enjoyed wearing it today. Just one spritz, though. 🙂
For my biggish white floral I chose Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby by Etat Libre D’Orange. I do seem to prefer my white florals with a touch of bitterness – you can get that banana cream away from me right now!
And you can send the banana cream to me, LOL…although I will go for bitter too.
White florals dislike me- real bad. SOTD is my strangely wonderful Timbuktu.
That is a strangely wonderful perfume — enjoy!
Yay 🙂
; )
I am wearing the only BWF that I like: Bubblegum Chic Extrait de Parfum by Heeley. As I said in January, “The notes are supposed to be jasmine, tuberose, white musc, and red fruit. I get an insanely happy strawberry-inflected gardenia that starts off with five minutes of a high-quality bubblegum note.” This stuff is SWEET, and I love it!
When I got to work, I put two dabs in the hollow of my neck and angled my desk fan at my neck. I start at 6:00 a.m., so I’m not bothering anyone 🙂
LOL — love the desk fan wafting Bubblegum all over the office!
I almost put this on, too, kindcrow. Love your description!
🙂
Wow, I have to try this!
BWF (sort of) is Success Is The Essence Of New York (Bond no. 9). Happy BWFF! 🙂
Argh, I cannot remember which that was. It was an Andy Warhol I know.
It used to be “Success Is A Job In New York” 🙂
Right, thanks!
I’m also in Fracas. I don’t think anyone will comment on it at work, because no one ever has, to me or to my coworkers who pour half a bottle of Axe on themselves daily.
laughing hysterically as I read your comment! so true..why don’t people get called on the carpet for their obnoxious overuse of body spray? and yet when I am in my chypres everyone complains !
I may be a chronic underapplyer, though. I don’t want to wreck a good thing, just in case someone gets sniffy in a bad way.
Hey twin!
Hey! We smell good!
Wish to request partial credit for a spritz of nonvintage Fracas, on Wednesday, from a pharmacy in Manhattan, after my wife declined a spritz herself. Now I want to find some Bandit.
Credit issued, and yes, Bandit is worth having 🙂
Drat, I sprayed early and forgot the theme! I’m knocking them out in vintage Samsara edt today.
There’s some jasmine in there….
You smell fantastic anyway!
It smells better than usual! I wonder why.
I think Samsara is still a BWF – all those indoles and sandalwood! It you over apply you can definitely clear a room. Samsara is the amazon goddess of the Guerlain line.
Carnal Flower for me. While the tuberose is the main event, I do love the JuicyFruit chewing gum accord and the green, camphorous opening.
I love that fresh! chilly! green! in the opening.
Since my collection doesn’t include anything that I would consider as a BWF I went with Jean Louis Scherrer… a floral aldehyde. It smells great, it works on me, it does contain flowers,…. and I love it!
I considered wearing Fracas, but my bottle is almost empty. So in the end I’m in my beloved Boutonnière no. 7 – not as big as some others, but I’ve already worn A la Nuit, Lys Fume, Love and Tears and Carnal Flower this week, so I feel like I’ve done my part 🙂
enjoyed your post on bwf but could not leave a comment 🙁
Oh, thank you! I’m blushing a bit now. If you can be bothered, drop me an e-mail (ykkinna at gmail dot com) an let me know what happened.
Another fan here. Great blog!
Definitely all pink now. Thank you.
I love that you titled a post “5 Boring Fragrances.” How could anyone not click on that? (And you liked them.)
🙂
I put on some Sarrasins, I usually love this stuff, but I’m getting a whiff of urine today. At least from my skin. My hair is still a jasmine dream.
Put on plenty of Terracotta Le Parfum last night so I assume my hair and clothes still smell of it but I’m so congested that I couldn’t even smell 6or7 sprays freshly applied.
So sorry! Allergies?
Was sick. I seem to be done with the low grade fever and exhaustion but am still ridiculously congested
Oh, again, sorry — that sounds dreadful.
Something nasty seems to be going around. Hope you’re 100% soon.
L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse for me-how many credits is that? I am undecided on this one, bot it doesn’t bore me.
Gosh, that should get full credit, shouldn’t it?
Nuit de Tuberose is so gorgeous – a very unique combo of white flowers and oriental structure. If you put on a full spray, it would definitely be BWF!
I’m wearing the strange but wonderful Manoumalia by the late Sandrine Videault. It’s unlike anything I own, even unlike anything I’ve ever smelled, and it does really well on this warm spring day.
We were nearly twins today; I almost picked Manoumalia! I love its undertone of slight decay – very true to the tropics.
It’s one of those fragrances that almost make me want to bath in it. It glorifies decay, sort of treading a fine line between repulsion and attraction. I love it. Such a pity that Videault died so young.
Manoumalia and Fracas were finalists for me today too. There really is nothing like Manoumalia is there? I think it’s a perfume masterpiece. And I love the idea that there are people dotted around the world who smell like it 🙂
I had already used Fracas for the female perfumer Friday so opted for Manoumalia instead. I think it’s in a total league of it’s own, and I am glad it’s loved in Australia as well.
Manoumalia is a fascinating scent. I’ve gone through so many samples and decants. It has such an amazing arc, changes from moment to moment. It’s so lush and beautiful, but there is certainly decay as you said. I probably need to just spring for FB, as it would make me beyond sad not to have it, were it discontinued or changed. You smell fantastic. (I’ll give you double score for BWF :D)
I forgot about BWFriday when I packed so had to do a quick sample shuffle to find anything appropriate. Found a dabber of Songes and poured it on. I think it will help to make today bearable.
We are helping my in-laws organize stuff in my husband’s grandmother’s house. Grandma and her elder sister are moving into assisted living so we are to find all of their stuff and pack it up, throw away all the crud that has been hoarded, and look for lost treasure. I haven’t killed anyone yet so am feeling pretty good about it right now. Of course, I have just uncovered the door to the attic crawl space so I may revise my opinion. I’m in charge of the upstairs that nobody has been able to get to for years (except apparently grandma, who has crammed bags of mail, diapers and bottles which nobody knows why she has, and grocery bags everyplace). Aargh!
+1 for a dab of Songes. Very best of luck in your cleaning!
I’m hoping you’ll find an unexpected treasure that will make it all worthwhile. Good luck!
I’m in Songes too 🙂
I agree- hope there’s something interesting up there to make it more fun than dusty rubbish! 🙂
Maybe you’ll find some vintage perfume 🙂
Several years ago a co-worker cleaned out her great aunt’s house upon her passing and found 20 unopened perfume bottles which she threw out…when she told me the names (Antilope, No 5, Jardins de B, Vent Vert) I almost had a heart attack! She told me that she had originally thought about selling them on e-bay but then decided it wasn’t worth the hassle so in the garbage they went !
Oooh. Stomach cramp… too bad!!
Songes was my front runner today… until I changed my mind. But Songes is just so gorgeous. Definitely on it’s own planet.
I’m in a Diet White Floral: Jennifer Anniston is my SOTD.
Diet Jasmine 🙂
I am wearing Kai so I wouldn’t completely send all my co-workers running.
Scent twins.
I was thinking of going with Honor Woman by Amouage, but it can be a bit stifling, so I stuck with Kai.
I love Kai, it’s a summer staple here. It is so pretty!
24 Faubourg. But not too much- I’m teaching until late. Happy weekend!
Full credit for me today, wearing Byredo’s knock you out gorgeous bwf, Flowerhead. I’ll feel like Marilyn all day today 🙂
LOVE Flowerhead.
I just recently tried this one, and it’s so beautiful! Definitely need a decant or FB, or something.
SOTD is a la nuit. Last night, I wore velvet gardnia, which also layers wonderfully over Laura Mercier honey musk, by the way!
I adore Velvet Gardenia, but my decant is gone. I must order some more.
I can’t figure out why it was discontinued! It’s so perfect when I want that true leaning over a gardenia bush to smell the flowers experience.
I absolutely agree. I would buy it right away if it was brought back. I actually smelled VG before I smelled an actual gardenia and when I finally did, I got a shock – the blooms smelled exactly like the Tom Ford fragrance.
I cheated by wearing A La Nuit (big fat luscious jasmine!) for an hour or so this morning, then showering it off and wearing A*Men Ultra Zest to work. But I think I still get partial points for trying?
Lush Lust plus Silky Underwear dusting powder. Goodness, both of these scents make me so happy! And they certainly make it sound like I’m having a more exciting day than I am.
I love Silky Underwear. And what else is fragrance for, if not for *adding* excitement to our days? 😉
I love both of them too! I tried some Lush R&B hair moisturiser tonight for the first time and it’s also deliciously jasmine scented. It actually smells like jasmine and sandalwood to me but there’s no mention of sandalwood. Yay for another delicious Lush product 🙂
I just bought the Lush “Yes” massage bar which is scented with the Lust fragrance. I use it as an after shower moisturizer. It’s really nice but not as bold as the perfume.
F Malle Lys Medterranee…not a *big* white floral, but I do need to do some work in the office this afternoon! 😉
Loved my sample if LM to death- now it’s gone. I’d probably buy a full bottle if it lasted longer…
That’s such a pretty one. I love the salty breeze effect in it.
Scent twinsies!
Fracas with abandon!!!
TGIF and have a great weekend everybody! 🙂
Not sure yet. Yesterday, I enjoyed Givenchy Organza Jasmin 2007, which smells really good. I usually wear it to sleep in, for the sleep-attracting jasmine. Today I’m leaning toward L’AP Nuit de Tubereuse, or possibly Honore des Pres Vamp a New York. Hard to decide, as we have cool, misty weather now, with heat and storms expected later.
I have one of those special Organza’s – I’m not sure if mine is the 07 or 08. But it’s massive and gorgeous. I wish they still did those….
I went with Vamp, which got very quiet, so I added Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia. The result has more in common with Chanel Gardenia than Chanel would ever care to admit.
Ha! That’s funny.
No points for me this morning. I’m really not a white floral person, but as I was looking through decants and samples this morning to see what might fit I came across an almost forgotten bit of Olivier Durbano Citrine, a citrusy summery incense, and decided to wear that instead. I think there might be a tiny bit of mimosa in here.
Guerlain Terracotta for me today. Happy Friday to all 🙂
Hello scent twin! I’m liking this today, lightly applied (at work, cool and cloudy day). This is still in my virtual checkout bag…very tempting! You smell great!
Good thing that I woke up late and don’t have to be anywhere today. But I was thinking either A La Nuit, Sarrasins or Nasomatto Nuda today. Fracas and Carnal Flower are out because I don’t get along with tuberose but get along with jasmine and orange blossom for some reason.
Nasty cold continuing, SOTD=vintage Guerlain Mitsouko oil…hey its got jasmine in it, right? (Cough, cough)
More than Vick’s Vapo Rub, anyway.
I had to wear Fracas as well. In my opinion this is the penultimate BWF and besides I am working at home today.
I agree, it is the BWF to the nth degree. Everything else is somehow Lesser, comparatively.
(Mind you, I don’t love Fracas… all that orange blossom makes it smell surprisingly like tuberose-scented cold cream on me… but there is nothing else like it. And sometimes Less is More. But sometimes only the Queen will do.)
The white floral I’m enjoying today is Séville à l’Aube.
Happy Friday!
Good stuff.
I thought about Manoumalia or Lush Lust, but finally went with Lush Sikkim Girls.
I’m in Versace Blonde today and loving it. This one takes no prisoners 🙂 .
I have never tried it, but sounds serious.
I blind-bought the parfum when it went crazy discounted… $25 for half an ounce? something like that. And it’s pretty great, but there is something in there that bugs me. Don’t know what, but it keeps me from wearing Blonde often. I should just stick it on ebay – it ain’t getting the love it should get from me.
My Blonde is the EDT, which I blind bought used on ebay because I loved the bottle design. I don’t wear it often, but enjoy it when I do.
Oh Mals, if you’re looking for a good home for Blonde, let me know and perhaps we could work something out? I haven’t worn it since the late ’90s and always think about buying some and then never do! I think I lived in that, White Jeans, Sung and Diva for like a couple years before I got really into perfume. mds4pak at sbcglobal dot net
I have some Blonde parfum, and it smells much like a copycat of Fracas to me, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I really should do a side by side to see if I’m totally telling fibs or not..
Not sure how much diet it is, but I am in Gianfranco Ferré Gianfranco Ferré (bonus points for most boring perfume name ;)). I am usually not a BWF girl, but this one I like. And Fracas ofc, almost nothing beats Fracas :)!
Wearing vintage Poison. Maybe not the biggest, but certainly the bossiest WF. Love it! One dab only though, so as not to suffocate my coworkers.
It’s not really a BWF (IMHO), but I tested out Chamade last night, thanks to a generous NSTer. It was fascinating. I got powdery, floral, no green at all, and almost no hyacinth. Then all of a sudden, an hour or so after application, I waved my arm in a certain way, and WHAM! hyacinth everywhere in a really lovely way. The whole experience did not last long on me–I did not enjoy the opening, but the middle and drydown were nice. It definitely bears more testing.
LOL! When it first came out I was one of those who “suffocated coworkers” as I always sprayed lavishly! My bottle came with a mini decant with a stopper top that I carried around in my purse for re-application…one day the stopper came dislodged and the juice spilled all over the inside of my bag….it reeked of Poison for months 🙁 That’s a good way to describe it “a bossy white flower” 🙂
Poison spilled everywhere? You’re lucky you survived that!! 😉
I once had Tauer’s Loretta sample leak all over my work-related travel documents that I had to give to bookkeeping afterwards. I still haven’t lived this one down.
That’s hysterical!!
I think Chamade can count as a BWF! She was number 2 choice for me today, until I changed my mind….
Poison used to skeer the bejeebers out of me back in the day – probably it was a combination of that orientalish stuff in the base and living in a girls’ dorm in The Era of 1980s Excess, where whole clouds of it used to travel down the halls ALL ON THEIR OWNNNN. Poison indeed.
However, now I like it.
1/4 point for me. I was gonna wear vintage Fracas parfum, really I was, but last night I dosed myself in Hiram Green Moon Bloom and decided that was all the tuberose I could take in a week. (Maybe a month… BWFs are just not my thing…) So I’m testing Chanel Cuir de Russie extrait on my left wrist vs the LE version on my right wrist. Fragrantica says there are some WFs in CdR. So I get a wee bit of credit 🙂
Went with Chasse aux Papillons today to tide me over. I didn’t dare wear what I wanted to work…Moon Bloom which really does seem to bloom on me.
The l’Artisan will do until after work, then watch out world!
Such a pretty scent!
So, so pretty.
I’m wearing a tiny dab of Fracas extrait under a generous blast of Montale Intense Tiare. I feel like a bombshell even if I’m just doing laundry and cleaning today.
Whoa! Two Titans battling it out on your skin, though you dabbed Fracas. Both are lovely, and huge. Intense Tiare was one of the samples I took on a vacation to Maui a few years ago. It always makes me think of the tropics now. Truly beautiful. How does the Fracas affect the Intense Tiare, I wonder? Do you like the combination better than either alone?
What a wonderful perfume/vacation memory!
I wouldn’t say I like the combination better than the individual perfumes, but the Fracas definitely adds the sexy to the Intense Tiare and makes it somehow more earthy and less beachy. It was a wonderful combination! 🙂
I put on Child (Susan B. Owens), which has lots of tuberose and probably some jasmine along with other floral notes that I’m not sure of. It smells so nice on me. I get more compliments (and questions about what I’m wearing) with this perfume than any other one that I have.
Pretty sure it doesn’t qualify as ‘big’, but wearing AG Un Matin d’Orage.
Put me down as well for Quiet White Flower: Anais Anais. Looks like I don’t have a single BWF, which as a bit of a surprise.
I love Anaïs Anaïs – just revisited it last week. Still have lots of little gift-minis of lotion and bath powder in the scent, but hardly any actual edp left. Must correct that!
Oh, that’s a pretty one, too. But you’re right, not a big WF, just a WF. You still get credit. 🙂
I’m wearing vintage Carolina Herrera Carolina Herrera, the first fragrance from her, before they went bananas with the area codes and the initials. I think this house must have more flankers than anybody. Anyway, CH is jasmine, tuberose, and civet and I love it.
You smell stunning! I also liked Herrera for men (came in a box with polka dots)……agreed the area codes and initials are annoying!
Foxbins, have to say that your post made me lol!
I really loved that back in the day – truly a bold choice!
SOTD is Madeleine de Madeleine by Madeleine Mono. Anyone familiar with this one? All the Dame talk this week again prompted my choice. I received a sample of this a couple of years ago as an offer posted on POL when Dame was working with her on her new release, Mischief, and it’s been in my sample box since then.
I’m not familiar with her or either of these scents but the back of the card says:
The glamorous cosmetics glitter queen Madeleine Mono introduced her lush floral MdM perfume to great acclaim in 1978. “Sure the world has many fragrances, but it doesn’t have mine,” said M. Ono at the launch. Her stunning and beautiful MdM perfume is a liquid signature statement that makes heads turn. The soul of a woman.
From basenotes:
Top notes: Tuberose, Mimosa, Jonquil
Heart notes: Neroli, Rose, Jasmine, Chamomile
Base notes: Oakmoss, Sandalwood
It’s been described as similar to Fracas but drier and less sweet, and from what I remember of Fracas I would agree. It’s well put-together and smooth, dry but not earthy. I’ll stick with my Songes, however, my inexplicable love, but only on a very cold, crisp winter’s day or on a balmy summer evening at an outdoor event.
Oh that sounds good!!!! Especially the oakmoss in the base!
That does sound nice.
Songes today. And I realised that I’m a BWF tragic. I keep a list of my fb’s, and a list of categories (bwf, ambers, etc).. I always thought that oriental/spicy/woody or green fresh would be the most represented but apparently not. I had OVER 30 FB’s of BWF’s to choose from!!!! OMG!!! lol!
So tonight I bought a bottle of delicious Aesop Marrakech Intense to balance things out a bit 🙂 Its notes are clove, sandalwood and cardamom. Not a white flower in sight.
Wow, I think you win then! 30 is impressive.
Songes is gorgeous!
HA HA HA HA!! I think I love you. 🙂
I went with Tuberoli, by Space NK. It’s fairly tame, as tuberoses go – also has some peach notes, so I’m feeling fairly summery.
I struggled with BWF b/c I ended up having to go to a memorial viewing this morning for a professional obligation. I didn’t want to put anyone off. So, first thing I switched gears on what I was going to wear, and put just a dab of Jardins de Bagatelle in my cleavage so I’d have something to sniff. But all that is done now. After lunch I ramped it up by putting on some of my truly neglected MP&G Secrete Datura. It’s so cozy, but it’d never be BWF lite. Secrete Datura has monster sillage from even a small spray. My take away from today is that I don’t wear white flowers enough, and I need to wear both my vintage Jardins de Bagatelle (my first Guerlain love), and the Secrete Datura more often. They are both so “womanly”!
That was my most frequently worn scent for many years. Flowers and cocoa powder. Beautiful!
It is so beautiful! I am lucky to have one of the old “nymph” bottles too.
I had that one as well. I bought it at their Paris salon with my then boyfriend, now husband. I wish I had saved the bottle!
JdB is really pretty.
And I wound up attending a memorial service as well, so that put paid to my intention to wear Fracas. I had a wee spritz of Amoureuse this morning, which had largely gone when I got to the service, and now I think I need something else.
I’m in DelRae Amoureuse today. It really fits with spring time vibe and today’s theme! This stuff goes all day, which I love!
I was wearing that earlier! I only applied a touch, so it’s down to a skin scent now.
Love….and Tears.
No points for me. Dealing with taxes, and a company that failed to provide services after payment. I needed a ladylike, but steely scent. I chose Chanel No. 19 extrait. It makes a good take charge scent, without being mean spirited, just assertive 😀
I’ve been wearing that quite a bit this season. It is a back stiffener!
Absolutely, this is the perfect Difficult Meeting Scent. And there are always points for No. 19.
Agree!
Perfect.
No 19 is always a good choice, imo.
SOTD was Seville a l’aube which is FB worthy for me!
After waving White Diamonds in the air for a bit I chickened out and went with Carnal Flower. Am in the stemmy stage of this one… I love it!
Oh, White Diamonds in parfum is nice. (Applied delicately, anyway.) But Carnal Flower is great, too!
No BWF for me, but I get a teensy amount of credit for some flowers, as I’m wearing AG Le Chevrefeuille. Honeysuckle are usually white, right? 😉
And thanks to a kick in the pants from AnnS, I have my full bottle now so I can spray with abandon! In case anyone is wondering, Beauty Encounter seems to be the only place that has any left – glad I got my bottle finally!
Yeah! 😉 BE is one of the best sources for AG old and new, big and small bottles, discounted or not. I have the small bottle of Chev, but it’s nice to know you don’t have to worry about running out. My by AG coup is getting some of the old Eau de Sud from BE. Now I only wish I could get my hands on some of the old Eau de Monsieur……
Lonestar Memories. I can’t find my manoumalia sample and I think someone said that this bonfire counted. Plus, moving has led to digging through stuff I haven’t seen since I moved here from Texas.
First I considered Tuberose Criminelle, but I’m too tired today. Instead chose a favorite- Vero Kern Rubj Voile d’extrait.
Once there was a time when I couldn’t wear BWF because they were too overpowering, my tolerance level has gone up quite a bit since then!
Ooooo everyone smells AMAZING today!
Unfortunately, BWF don’t play nice on me, and Diet florals don’t either.
So! I spritzed Natori. No points, but i do love the way i smell. TGIF!
There’s some white flowers in there… just snuggled down in an awesome oriental composition!
I knew that I’d have to attend a funeral service (my first cousin’s grandmother, on the side of his family that isn’t also my side) in the early afternoon today, so I went with a tiny bit of Amoureuse this morning. It’s barely present now, so I think I may go with a spritz of Flowerhead to finish out the day.
I went with Mahora today. Yum.
I love this one, but am currently out. I used to wear it to bed, as I found it really nice and comforting. It was a total surprise for me at some point that not everybody thought so 🙂
Big white florals leave me cold (ducks countless tomatoes thrown my way). They just don’t work well on me.
Today I’m sampling Memoir Woman, which I’m not exactly crazy about, but I sure can appreciate its spicy warmth.
Wait, is Nasomatto Nuda considered a BWF? Because that smells divine. As does FM Une Fleur de Cassie (mmmmm).
That’s a jasmine bomb, isn’t it? Definitely BWF!
I wore Tom Ford’s Velvet Gardenia today. I still have about a half a bottle left. I too wish he would bring this one back and never understood why he stopped making it. It is better than a lot of the others in the line.
Yes, yes, yes.
It’s Truth or Dare for me this evening. BWF laced with marshmallows, I could almost lick my own arm
Hi everyone! I love BWF and have plenty in my stash. We are fixing up our house and my husband moved tons of stuff in front of my fume closet so I begged him to let me get in there lol. I am wearing Tuvache Jungle Gardenia perfume vintage. It is a huge white floral. So I smell like Jayne Mansfield while I scrub a new floor lol.
Ooh, that’s awesome! My band director back in the 70s (!) used to joke that his wife wore Jungle Gardenia when she hadn’t had time to bathe… JG smelled divine on her anyway!
LMAO! It could out-smell anything!
I have a question about tuberose, a flower I don’t think I’ve smelled IRL. Does it have a coconut aroma, whether faint or strong.
Today I am wearing Histoires de Parfums Tubereuse 3 Animale, a delicious buttery COCONUTTY tuberose with leathery tobacco and immortelle. I wore Carnal Flower last week but that lists coconut as a note which Animale does not. I also wore Daphne last week but my notes indicate I perceived no coconut.
I know someone in the knowledgeable NST community will have smelled tuberose. TIA!
I’m a dunce – what’s IRL? But I was thinking, maybe the coconut you smell is a ghost. Maybe you’ve got used to smelling a coconut accord with the other biggies you like, and now your nose/brain is kind of expecting it to be there. When I smell tuberose, I always smell “sugar”. I always perceive it to be very sweet and nearly unappealing except for in modest accords, regardless of the other notes with it. Or better, like when I smell a deep lily accord (like Donna Karan Gold), I always smell brine or ham. It just gets kind of gross to my nose, so I tend not to like heavy lily fragrances, b/c I always think the ham will be there, even if it’s not. My nose is like lily = ham. I needed to retrain my nose about lily, and something soft like Baiser Vole did the trick. But I still recoil from strong lily fragrances. I used to think vetiver smelled like rancid swamp water or old vase water, and now I love it and I think vetiver smells like velvet. Well, what the heck does velvet smell like anyway? Violets smell like plastic to me, so I’m always predisposed to smelling plastic whether it’s there or not. So, maybe if you like coconut, and there are coconut accords in some of your tuberose fragrances that you really like, associating coconut with tuberose is a good thing and your nose is triggering your brain to smell coconut along with the tuberose. Or maybe I’m just nuts and there is something else going on. 😉
Hello AnnS!
No dunce – just that ‘social media’ lingo. In real life.
Thanks for your explanation, I appreciate your thoughtful responses.
It may be a ghost, I will have to remember the next time I wear Daphne to look for coconut. When I sprayed Animale today, my first thought was tuberose, then coconut. If I ever find my Fracas I will look there too.
I get the ham from DK Gold, but not Baiser Vole EDT.
In Real Life 🙂
To me it does have a fatty, coconutty aspect to it. From memory, a combination of this and the green, mentholated note highlighted in TC. Tuberose is very much a summer, tropical fragrance to me probably not only that it’s a tropical flower but it has the coconutty, beachy thing going on. Even if a perfume has a fresher, greener emphasis- say MPG Tubereuse- which I wear in spring usually, it still doesnt change the fact that i consider tuberose to have a coconut aspect overall.
Hello perthgirl!
Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I definitely smell a buttery/creamy aspect, too.
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Yin and Ylang
My bottle of SSS Yin and Ylang will always be special. It was a gift from CaFleureBon’s Michelyn Camen and Laurie Erickson at Sniffapalooza Spring Fling 2014 (Michelyn presented it; Laurie was not there)
Yin and Ylang was launched in 2014. It’s a mostly natural blend of ylang, tuberose and jasmine, along with sandalwood. It starts off with a refreshing hit of aldehydes and bergamote and a touch of something sweet but not overly so. Yin and Ylang is perfect for spring. It is also very office friendly with moderate longevity (8 – 10 ours on me, YMMV).
This morning, I accidentally touched a little vial of Box of Eels parfum that was somewhat leaky and oh my God, it is gorgeous and I must say that it blended quite nicely with Yin and Ylang.
Now I’m off to read everyone else’s SOTD!
Box of Eels? Either the oddest perfume name or most random autocorrection of all time. Off to google it.
I’m hoping Box of Eels = Bois des Iles . . . LOL.
A box of eels makes me hold my breath. Bois des Iles makes me want to walk through a quiet forest for hours.
Yes. Bois des Iles. Sorry I forget which reader…but spouse misheard what they were wearing as “Box of Eels”. Would be clearer if we all said “Chanel Box of Eels” instead of just “Box of Eels”, I guess!
I’m a little relieved, and a little disappointed.
Lol!
I’m in a conservative amount of Lys 41, as I had to be in-office all day. It was still big, but not suffocating. More like a cozy, sunny aura. 🙂
Not a bwf fan but I do love lwf.
SOTE is Lust.
I had a beautiful little stopper bottle of pure jasmin oil for years and just discovered it has turned.
Lust is filling the spot nicely.
I can’t believe I just wrote “lust is filling the spot nicely”
Phrasing!
I can’t believe I forgot! I was going to wear Serge Lutens Fleur d’Oranger, which I think was my only option, except for what’s left of a sample of Fracas, assuming I could find it. Most of my florals are of the fruity variety. (Do lilies like Donna Karan Gold or FM Lys Mediterranee count? I’ll have to read through the rest of the comments to see.)
Actual SOTD is Agent Provocateur L’Agent, which does have some florals, for some small fraction of a credit, along with its incense. It lasts forever, so I can’t even wait for it to fade and spray some Fd’O over it.
I almost went with vintage Chloe this morning and might have chosen EL PCTG, but the winning choice was Chanel no 22 vintage parfum. It’s divine.
No 22 is the queen of BWF!
Absolutely!
I’ve had a cold all week, but mustered the energy to dab on a bit of Fidji this morning (and yes, I could smell it even through my stuffy nose!). I adore Fidji; I went through several bottles back in the 80s. I got a sample several years ago for nostalgia’s sake, but now I think I might want to have a bottle again. Does anyone have an opinion about the current version?
I loved it too. Current version not so much.It sadly is a shadow of it’s former self. Hope you feel better. You do smell great!
Thanks, VeraJayne. It’s too bad about the current Fidji. I loved and wore Niki de Saint Phalle in the 80s, too, but haven’t tried it recently for fear of disappointment.
Songes, Songes, Songes today . . . mmmhhhhhhmmm.
Very late to the party but it was Tawaf from a quickly dwindling sample and a spritz of Lust at the neck for good measure.
Hmm… Looks like I’m the only one in Poeme . I started with only two spritzes . Then I upped it to I-don’t – know- how-many? Now my cat refuses to snuggle and is hanging out in my closet. Poeme is my SOTE , SOTD was Salvatore Ferragamo pour Homme. I must be on a mimosa flower binge.
I thought about carnal flower and tube reuse criminelle but was feeling too tired and grumpy and they required a bit of attitude to wear, so I went for vamp A NY, I haven’t worn it in ages as someone at work said it made them sneeze. I’d forgotten how lovely and happy it is!
