By Kilian Single Malt ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 1 April 2015 8 Comments

By Kilian Single Malt

French niche line By Kilian has launched Single Malt, a new fragrance for the brand's boutique in Harrod's Salon de Parfums. Single Malt follows prior exclusives Apple Brandy (for New York City) and Vodka on the Rocks (for Moscow).

This exclusive scent, created for the Harrods Boutique, is an homage to London and its most emblematic liquor: WHISKY. The heart balances between the golden reflection of wheat absolute and the sweet yet sophisticated character of plum. The woodsy dry down of SINGLE MALT composed of cedarwood essence from texas enriched by the vanilla absolute from Magadascar and tolu balm from Colombia gives to this fragrance an unconventional identity.

Single Malt was developed by perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur.

By Kilian Single Malt is €235 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

OK…I really don’t get this…it’s supposed to be a tribute to whisky, so it combines fragrances from Texas, Madagascar, and Columbia and is for sale in England. Scotland is the home of whisky (spelled that way), Ireland, the US, Canada, and Japan make whiskey (spelled that way). I don’t know what England, Texas, Madagascar and Columbia have to do with any of that. If they wanted whisky essence…maybe a peatty sort of smell from Scotland, with some salt water smell and kind of a wet rainy finish to it all?

I think you are requiring a level of verisimilitude that is not warranted by this project of doing “drinks” for his boutiques. :-)

As many people have pointed out, they don’t drink Vodka on the Rocks in Moscow, either.

I’m intrigued by the idea of a single malt fragrance, but I’d be more optimistic if it were being done by the other BK nose, Calice Becker. I loved nearly all of her earlier BKs (through Rose Oud), but haven’t really liked anything from the brand since then.

I will respectfully disagree — she would have made it classy, and Apple Brandy (also by SL) was great fun instead. But I don’t love By Kilian (or CB’s scents for them) as much as you do, probably.

Maybe Gin would’ve been a more accurate choice for UK..?
I should go spray on some Beefeater now :P

Ha, true! But perhaps too close to Vodka on the Rocks. Hope he will do pastis for Paris!

The notes sound great. I think I’ll fall for this like I did Apple Brandy. I hope they’ll make this available, if at least to sniff, at the By Kilian boutique in NYC!

They should do a “drinks” coffret once they’re done, all in 10 ml — that’s my vote!
