Mondays just keep coming! Hope yours is going well so far. What's your fragrance today?
I'm wearing Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze. Tea of the moment: Harneys HarSha.
Reminder: this Friday, 27 March, is Figgy Friday: wear a fig perfume, if you dare. I know some of you won't dare, so partial credit for other dried fruit notes.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Wearing Elie Saab Le Parfum Resort Collection
I need to go give that one a sniff.
Diptyque volutes edt. So hoping the spring scents would be more appropriate for the day, but alas. Maybe all the figginess will bring on Spring.
At least you smell great!
Gosh I hope so.
Wearing Une Rose Vermeille and noting that Tauer has never done a fig fragrance.
But lots of roses!
And I can’t imagine a Tauer fig. But I guess I’ve been surprised before 🙂
Currently scent-less in anticipation of trying Chanel Misia today. Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose is one of my favorites, so the reviews promising a gentler Lipstick Rose have my hopes high!
A quick question: what is everyone’s favorite fruity niche scent?
Nicolai Exotique, probably. Do I get bonus points for listing a discontinued scent, LOL??
My favorite is Slumberhouse Sadanne extrait. If you order a sample be sure to get it in extrait because Josh Lobb was bold enough to actually improve his line and the extraits are an improvement of the originals. Sadanne is a damascene bomb. It is so rosy it is fruity! I get raspberry and strawberry and wine notes from this beauty. The first time I wore Sadanne I was transported to a forest in the Pacific Northwest where I sat on a stump and chewed my perfect raspberries.
The one that comes immediately to mind is SL Daim Blond, apricot and suede.
PdN Juste un Reve!
Manguier Metisse (have no idea if I spelled that right)
I’m curious to hear what you’ll say about Misia if you love Lipstick Rose. The latter is way too much for me, which is a disappointment because I like how it smells. Misia is very similar in profile but I find it to be very wearable. Hooray!
My favorite fruity niche scent is Carthusia Mediterraneo, even though it has no lasting power whatsoever.
Badgley Mischka. Not niche, but expensive and hard to find now because it was d/c after less than 10 years on the market. Love it.
SOTD is Iris Poudre. I also wanted a spring fragrance l, but it was too cold. Iris Poudre is a nice transition.
Love Iris Poudre, and agree it’s a good choice to wear when you want spring but the weather doesn’t oblige. I wore it yesterday, for similar reasons.
Wearing Narcisco again today. Love the beautiful white cube bottle – wish it weren’t being matched by the fluffy white stuff falling in Chicago right now. Where’s spring?
Thank you everyone for your marvelous suggestions for amber bombs! I will be ordering samples shortly.
Here are a few more – I think some of these were probably suggested already, but Olfactoria (of olfactoriastravels.com) is the “Queen of Amber”!
http://olfactoriastravels.com/2012/05/20/olfactoria-queen-of-amber-perfume-lovers-london-meetup-thursday-17th-may-2012/
Amouage Fate Woman, mixed with some other stuff I’ve been decanting.
i like Fate-wanting a similar scent but at a lower cost
I wore Amouage Gold last night after you mentioned it. I may need to wear it again today!
I have a sample of Fate somewhere and really should try it again. Luca Turin raved about it!
I read that review as well, and though I think it’s pretty I’m as yet not in love. I have a generous sample so plenty more times to try it.
Gold is something else. Utterly, enchantingly beautiful.
Trying La Chasse aux Papillons. After seeing this one pop up several times recently (by Robin, I think?) I figured I needed to open my sample. It’s a WONDERFUL spring fragrance! So happy!
CaP is definitely a happy place! How long does it last on you?
This is my first time trying it, but so far it’s lasted 6 hours.
Lucky!
CdG Stephen Jones. I tried this ages ago and it was a little too strange for me then, but I recently got another sample and I like it a lot more now.
What’s strange is that I don’t GET strange with this one. I get violet pot-pourri in an old wooden wardrobe. I keep looking for the futuristic asteroid in the field of violets 😀
And I get one clump of violets blooming in the middle of a large lava field. Wacky stuff.
Hello all!
I’m back at work today after what turned out to be the worse March Break ever!
During my week off I decided to visit my parent. I arrived just as they came down with gastroenteritis. Both were quite ill and… there was much mopping to be done. As soon as they got better I came back home and, sure enough, I got it! I was violently ill for 4 days. “Magically” I am all better to return to work today! So much for my vacation!
Oh well! C’est la vie!
Wearing Vent Vert today to mentally fight off the return to -19C wind chill outside.
Have a great week everyone.
That sounds terrible, but I’m sure your parents were grateful you were there to help.
Oh no! Hope you at least have an easy time at work.
Yuck. Glad you’re feeling better even if you have to head back to work.
Gastroenteritis can be terribly contagious. Years ago I was in a wedding party and it practically wiped out all the bridesmaids! Miraculously, it missed the bride. I’m glad you are feeling better!
May the Vent Vert blow all the bad stuff away! Wishing you a positive week ahead.
Glad you’re feeling better, and were able to help take care of your folks. Karma is going to owe you!
Oh boy. You are in need of your favorite scents, for about two weeks.
Oh my. That sounds very disappointing! I am glad you are feeling better, even if it is just in time to return to work…
Just consider yourself an honourable citizen 🙂
Glad you’re better. It also means you have to plan for another vacation!
Wearing OO Javanica for the nutmeg-herbal-sweet-anise-springiness. I had temporarily forgotten this favorite.
The in-laws’ party turned out to be great and I needn’t have dreaded it at all. There was about half the usual turnout so it wasn’t as stifling as usual and one of my bridesmaids turned up as a surprise so we got to catch up. It was otherwise the usual odd mix of doctors, engineers, and CPAs which makes for interesting conversation.
Just learned that my mother in law awoke Sunday with the flu so everyone was exposed. Yay. I really, really don’t want it.
Oh, and I’m wearing Osafume. Javanica was yesterday. *Sigh* Monday.
I’m wearing Penhaligon’s Night Scented Stock, which smells fine, but not what I expected. I think when I think stock, I think carnations. Are stock carnations? Anyway, I am envying Robin’s and others variety of teas available. The most interesting brand that I can buy in my tiny town is Tazo.
I think stock are actually in the mustard family, if I remember correctly. They have a sweet-spicy-creamy scent. They are sold as a higher-end floral filler and are really lovely.
They are! I got a bouquet of stock at Trader Joe’s one day because the smell stopped me in my tracks.
I lived in an apartment with a balcony for a couple of years and I grew night-scented stock in a window box one year. The thick, creamy perfume would emerge after everything else (I think astilbe and sweet pea) had closed up shop for the evening and it was just bliss.
Nearly all of my teas arrive in the mail, just like my perfumes 🙂
And like the perfume retailers, nearly all of the tea retailers have free shipping specials from time to time.
Ditto. Try Republic of Tea, once you get on their list they’ll send you a catalog with a free sample every month. Also try Amazon (they sell everything….)
Yes, tea samples! Both Upton & Harney (and many others) sell them at reasonable prices. And unlike with perfumes, if you don’t love something, you can often mix it in with something else (I just this morning combined 4 Earl Grey samples I did not love with half a tin of Upton Extra Bergamot Earl Grey plus a teaspoon of Lapsang Souchong, now it is perfect and nothing goes to waste).
Snowing like mad. In a fit of pique, applied a smidge of vintage Joy. I’m da rose/jasmine/civet bomb!
UGH, so sorry.
Bring on the flowers!
A well chosen antidote!
I gave in to the chilly un-spring like weather (such a cold wind!) and my SOTD is the warming SSS Ambre Noir rather than one of the springy green florals I would rather be wearing.
SOTD: Fleur de Chine.
One of my go-tos.
I have been contemplating Sunshine by Amouage but the reviews I have read are so polarised! There seems to be either adoration or disappointment (a great one at that too)…is there no middle ground? 🙁
scent twins! I’m sampling Fleur de Chine today. It’s Sampling Tom Ford week here in pixel-town.
Moments after spraying myself generously (overly?) with Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her my 12 year old son (who now towers over me) shuffled into my room saying he felt too sick to go to school. As I appraised the situation (homework done, missing today means he doesn’t get in the cast photo for the school musical) he told me that my perfume was making him nauseous. What?…he’s usually my fragrance fan. Back to bed he goes! 🙁
Poor baby.
Thanks Mals. It’s funny, even though he’s so huge he’s still totally and completely my baby!
My oldest baby just tuned 14… sigh… he is so sweet and growing up so fast. Am attaching a link of a blog posting I’ve reread several times. Brilliant for all mothers of teenage boys–enjoy: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marion-franck/what-you-need-to-know-about-6-foot-trick-or-treaters_b_6030982.html
What a fabulous article – thanks for sharing! I must be feeling sensitive today…I was already tearing up at the part about carving pumpkins without his sister (my oldest is going away to college in September)! I have wondered when my son will call it quits on the trick or treating and think I’ve just been enlightened. 🙂
How do you like that perfume? My local TJ Maxx has it and I’m tempted to blind buy.
It was a blind buy for me, also from TJ Maxx, inspired by so many glowing end of year reviews. The reviews are spot on, worth reading if you haven’t done so yet. I’m not completely smitten, but find it bright, peppery and easy to wear.
SuzyQ – we like many of the same things and i like this one, I have a decant right now and I am tempted to upgrade – Marshalls or Fragrancent – it’s been in both physical and.virtual shopping carts and so far I had resisted!
Somehow I missed this post the first time around, hope your son feels better by now. I just picked up the Rhythm for Her at Ross last week, an expensive blind buy impulse I gave into, remembering I had read many encouraging reviews. Haven’t tried it yet, can you smell the lavender?
You’re so sweet…thanks. 🙂 He’s feeling much better and will be back to school tomorrow. I feel so fortunate to have a job where there are no financial consequences if I can’t make it to work.
There is lavender, but not like when you smell actual lavender plant (which I don’t care for). I’m afraid I don’t know enough to be able to explain it, but I think the reviews (NST, bois de jasmin) are accurate.
What I really need to do is get some decant supplies and vow to do that shortly!
Laying off the Bal a Versailles because I don’t wear vintage to work for some reason. I’m thinking of wearing either Mitsouko (current formulation) or no 22. It’s nippy out still in Cleveland.
Ah, just a dab of vintage BaV in the cleavage is perfect for work!!!
Scent twins today with Robin in Yesterday Haze. There’s a sour aspect to this in the opening that I’m not enjoying. Can’t put my finger on what it is, though.
Hey twin!
There is something sour, and it doesn’t seem like only the citrus — it’s something else fruity (besides the fig), maybe? But I like the sour part.
I think you are right that it is something fruity and sour. I like citrus which is more tart than sour to me. This is like a sour fruit punch.
After a weekend of wonky internet, I seem to be back up. (I have DSL, out in the country, running on very old copper wires that get staticky when it rains – and sometimes when it’s not raining. Boo Hiss. FiOS is not even available.)
Am wearing Tuvache Gardenia, the Hypoluxe version. It’s nice. Here I sit in a cloud of creamy gardenia… while the clothes dry on the line, in the sunshine, and my daffodils smile at me from out in the yard. They just popped open yesterday, and I’m so glad to see them.
Incidentally, the neighbor’s goat keeps getting its head stuck in teh fence. Stoopid goat.
Quite envious of your sunshine & clothes on the line–hoping today will be my last snowshoveling event of the season. Would like to try Tuvache Gardenia one of these days (what does Hypoluxe signify?)
Hypoluxe, in a word, is Jeffrey Dame – Dame Perfumery and Long Lost Perfumes.
Oh,cool! Where can you find these other things he’s done?
Oh, I eagerly await my first clothes-on-the-line day! thought I was the only one who still did this.
I love to hang clothes on the line! Once the load is hung I always gaze out at the clothes waving in the breeze and sigh happily at how it makes our house seem so much like a home (my husband and kids think I’m crazy).
I agree, there’s something about seeing all our things hanging on the line that makes me feel such gratitude for all that I have.
Oh yes. There’s something very pleasant about it.
I continue to be puzzled at homeowners’ organizations that ban clotheslines. (My SIL lives in Northern Virginia, where that’s common. I don’t get it. I mean, okay, when you paint your house electric blue or let your lawn get two feet tall, it makes the neighborhood a little less appealing. But really, how bad could a clothesline sporting J Crew and Gap clothes look?)
I feel your DSL pain. I live in the mountains on the edge of Silicon Valley… and DSL is all we can get. Boo. Amazon Prime keeps sending me plaintive emails: why don’t you use your streaming?? Because I have crappy DSL, that’s why. Jerky drop-out low rez images on a big plasma TV really sucks.
Yep. Well, not that I know about streaming on a TV exactly, because mine is “internet ready” but not “internet hooked up.” If I plugged in the appropriate cable and ran it twenty yards across the room, maybe, but there’s probably no point. Since all I have is DSL, of course.
🙁
Enjoying Black Cashmere during what really ought to be the last few days of cold. I’ll miss having this one in the rotation when it gets warmer.
Black Cashmere is so nice.
For what I am hoping will be the last of our 20 degree weather, I am wearing Chanel Coco edt. I hope to put all my orientals away for the rest of the year!!!
I hope you aren’t putting Coco away!
Well, we can have chilly times in the summer and Coco will still work for me all year if I put on only a little. But I have so many florals waiting in the wings right now! I want hot weather and gardeny florals!!!
My SOTD is Origins Ginger Essence Sensuous Skin Scent.
Wearing Cartier Baiser Volee EDT today. Blue skies today, and apparently highs of 18-20 celsius are coming by the end of the week :)))
It hailed yesterday and the forecast is for more today, so I am wearing Tubereuse Criminelle today. If hail had a smell I think it might be this.
Today I wore Tauer’s Vetiver Dance. Beautiful.
Oh, this is so nice. I love the fresh grassy accord. I wish it wasn’t so expensive! I’d want to wear it like an edc.
You smell great! That’s one of my favorite Tauers.
The snow is piling up so I opted for Volnay Brume d’Hiver, which always brightens my day!
3 to 6″ of Wet White Stuff (I refuse to utter that word anymore) here today has me reaching for warmth, comfort, and burrowing-in for my Monday Keep-It-Simple SOTD: YR Neonatura Cocoon, patchouli, cocoa, and vanilla. After today’s wearing, it will be put away for several seasons as Wednesday will bring 60 degree temps and the white stuff will vanish. I believe!
Isn’t it the Eskimos who have many different words in their language for s**w? After this winter in North America there must have been a few choice words added to our vocabulary!
I can think of another word for snow that we can all identify with, very western though. Begins with S___ ___ ends with T … 🙂
s-o-f-t? 🙂
😉
Oh, Cocoon is so very good. Still can’t believe they threw it away. Very glad I have 2 15-mL sprays.
My plan is to try to turn figgy Friday into figgy week, so I busted out all my fig fragrance samples to test throughout the week. Today is Parfumerie Générale Jardins de Kerylos.
I am also wearing a PG fig today, Bois Naufrage! We’re almost scent twins. I own two FBs of figs, this one and Philosykos. Like you I’ve also got a bag of fig samples. Time to break them out!
Rainy and dreary weather here, it’s Monday, and I am having IT issues that are seriously impairing my ability to work. So a bad mood ensued.
But it didn’t last long because the mail-person just delivered a wonderful decant of Bois de Iles from a generous NST’er (Thank You Anns!). I just spritzed myself and I am continually STUNNED a by how gorgeous this stuff is! It makes me want to go back to bed, pull the covers over my head, and just spend the day smelling myself.
This is one of those scents that I feel just transports me to another place- so gorgeous!
😉 I am so glad it arrived. It is a virtual mink and cashmere blanket. I’m in Chanel today too b/c of the cold. But I picked Coco. I was very happy when I made your decant that my fingers got totally covered in the BdI. What a wonderful mess! You have to let us know what you think of the extrait….
So lovely and thank you again! I went right for the edt for speedy application but will try the extrait ASAP.
This one is already on my list and I may have to move it up because I’m sure I am going to use this decant to death! All this deep belly breathing is working wonders for my nerves, which are a little jangled today 🙂
Deva-
When is your Terracotta coming? I see mine is due to be at my house on Wednesday. We will have to compare notes to see if we both like it!
Kris, my email said to expect arrival on Thursday so you are a day ahead of me- I’m excited and you know, I did NOT realize how honkin this bottle was! I was imagining it to be a 30ml bottle for that price, but it’s a veritable VAT! We will definitely have to compare 🙂
Wait, how did you get it so soon? Both NM and Nordies told me it won’t ship until after the 27th.
I ordered mine from Nordstrom, and it also said it wouldn’t ship until the 27th, but then it shipped on the 20th. I’m guessing the 27th was set to manage everyone’s expectations.
I got mine through Nordies last week. Maybe I was one of the first ones. Not sure.
I read about it being released here on the NST blog in the comments a couple of days ago, and bit the bullet. I was surprised it shipped so soon. Honestly, I was afraid it might sell out quick due to all the hype last year, so that pushed me over the edge (it doesn’t take much!)
I agree, BDI t’is a thing of beauty! May it keep you in ‘another place’ at least the remainder of today, a place where IT issues are non-existent.
We’re in Berlin now — bit of a shock after Italy! — and I could have worn La Fille de Berlin (despite not being a fille) but instead I wore Terra di Siena by I Profume di Furenze and it is gorgeous, earthy and spicy and warm. And it lasts ages, too.
Went to, among many other places today, Galeria Kaufhof, where on the ground floor they have many boutiques, one of which is Hermès, and despite my occasionally ragging on Jean-Claude Ellena’s vaporous aesthetic, didn’t I buy four little Hermessences? 15-mL sprays of Cuir d’Ange (haven’t smelled it but everyone is always raving about it so I figured what the hell), Vanille “it’s really ylang” Galante, Brin de “it’s actually lavender” Reglisse, and Épice Marine. And I regret nothing!
Shop on, dude! 😉
Sounds like more fun. I dream of a continental trip someday with my hubbie.
Congrats on the Hermes! And looking forward to more of your travel adventures this week . . .
We got some wet, heavy snow here today, and the roads are not good right now, but I’m sure it will go away reasonably fast because it’s March, so I’m not going to fuss about it too much (well, maybe s little). I put on Patou Sublime for some amber, as it’s not too spring-y here at the moment.
The golden glow from Sublime should certainly melt that snow! To me there is no scent as ‘gold’ as she.
Amun Re: The Tears of Ra for me today. One of my fallback good anytime scents
Wearing Jalaine Citrus Dream oil, from a sample I’ve had for a long time. Finished it up, so that is good – nice to get rid of some since you all know how they multiply! It’s not that great. I get more orange peel and it smells kind of stale – maybe the sample has gone off since I’ve had it a while. Happy Monday everyone!
Trying Fleur de Chine today, which is not really working for me. Ah well, better for the wallet. Speaking of “not working for me”, I still have plenty of FBs available over on the swap meet — Clinique Wrappings, Encre Noire, Barbara Bui… happy to swap for decants / samples / goodies. Hint, hint 🙂
I’m sending you an e-mail, Pixel!
Rossy to Palma is putting Monday in its place…
Whip-CRACK! That is a fascinating fragrance. There is a note in it that my skin amplifies, iodine? Metallic? That my nose-brain reads as blood and roses. Most get rose and patchouli out of this, and it is a really different and interesting scent. Go get ’em!
Whip-crack indeed! I love that metallic note in Rossy.
Anne Pliska today, the extrait. Lovely stuff. Thanks to the people here at NST who sing its praises. I now have samples of both the EdP and extrait, love both. If I were wishing for one to fall off a truck, I think the EdP is my favorite. Be well!
AP is one of my all time favorites! You smell wonderful! 🙂
Anné Pliska is so great because every single element seems just a little off, in the most interesting way. It’s wonderful.
I’m wearing Agonist The Infidels today, from a sample. You know, for such an intense name, this smells an awful lot like candy, specifically candy that comes in tablet form. I go back and forth between whether it smells more like Smarties or Sweet Tarts.
Nervous before a conference call about my manuscript I liberally doused myself and office in happy happy Bond No. 9 Fire Island. It worked! All is well. Everyone is happy happy. I smell like summer on the beach.
Glad you’re having a good day! There’s nothing like having a dreaded work matter turn out well.
I had a stomach ache for two days dreading that call… so much for growing out of the jitters!
26 degrees here today! What happened to spring? SOTD = Tauer’s Maroc pour Elle. I’m comparing it to Lyric, which I have realized has the (for me) dreaded Tobacco note! So Maroc pour Elle wins again. At 8 hours it is light undefinable (to my wonky nose) flowers over a slightly sweet incense that still has some body to it – just perfect for this chilly grey day…so cozy.
Tobacco ruins many frags for me, too. It makes me queasy. So does leather. When I wear Spicebomb (has tobacco and leather), I have to layer it with plenty of vanilla to tone down the tobacco and leather.
I’m allergic to tobacco. Gives me asthma and makes my eyes swell shut and then I itch all over. Not pretty. I like leather of the well worn, well-oiled saddle leather with a little salty sweat on it variety….
Oh, dear. That’s scary. Especially when perfumers rarely list all of the notes 🙁
I’m snorting just a little over the description of Le Maroc pour Elle as “light flowers.” 🙂
LOL! Well, it is after 8 hours and several hospital induced compulsive handwashings! My allergy nose may h a ve compared it to the threat of tobacco and decided to ignore it.
My Sotd was Passage d’enfer again. Floral enough for spring but not too much. Liking it more and more.
Back home to New England after 6 days in Florida. Wow it’s cold!!
Quick question, is anyone going to the Sniffapalooza Spring Fling this year?
Today I did the Marie Kondo method with my perfume and found out that a bunch of my decants and samples had turned (VCA bois d’iris, boo hoo!) so I tossed them. I have a few things to donate to the swap, but honestly too tired to deal with decanting and shipping all that I would like to offload. I may wait till the next freebie or swap to offer my little island of misfit fragrances.
Just drained the last from my 5 ml decant of SSS Yin & Ylang. I definitely need to get a FB of this one.
Yummy cookie layering day… Lush Sympathy For The Skin lotion with Vanillary perfume!
I have the solid vanillary and it’s wonderful to sleep in. 🙂
I’m in a lovely cloud of Rose 31 today. Shower gel, lotion, edp. Can’t believe how often I’m reaching for this lately. Latest scent addiction for sure.
SOTD is Patricia de Nicolai’s Le Temps d’Une Fete, after suggesting it to Marjorie Rose over the weekend as a narcissus scent. Marjorie Rose, it is reminiscent of incense, but without the least bit of smoke or ash. I hesitate to be too emphatic because it’s getting harder to find, but it’s so beautiful and Beauty Habit appears to still have it available, soooo ….. TRY IT!
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Fig Tree
Like – the dry down is much better than the opening. I prefer other scents but I was thinking of doing a full figgy week although I probably won’t make it. We’ll see…
Bottega Veneta. I love it, and the weather’s still cool enough to suit it.
Trying out Palimpsest tonight. I really like everything I’ve heard about Aftelier and really thought I’d enjoy it, but whoo-wee this is not working on me at all.
I had trouble with that one as well.
Ambre Russe for me today. Still enjoying winter orientals.
