Wednesday scent of the day 3/18

Posted by Robin on 18 March 2015 185 Comments

spices

Hope everyone is having a lovely Wednesday? And do tell us what fragrance you're wearing.

I'm wearing Providence Perfume Co Samarinda. Anyone else a fan?

Reminder: this Friday, 20 March, we're doing Nouveau Niche...wear a perfume from a new (2010+) niche brand.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Not even a little bit niche, but I’m wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris. I am flat out rejecting the snow that’s starting to fall here in New York and I WILL manifest spring with my scent. I WILL.

    Have a lovely day everyone!

Weather here has turned cold again…I refuse to look at the forecast to see if we’re going to get snow. Ugh.

This reminds me of a co-worker’s son who thought that since he can’t see anyone when he closes his eyes, no ome can see him either :-)

He was perhaps 5 at the time so that would have been too young to be a fan of the book.

Oh no, I am so sorry for the snow! Infusion d’Iris is a perfect choice. Perhaps it will give the weather a hint that it’s TIME FOR SPRING.

Day three of the INEKE sampler and I am wearing Chemical Bonding- to my nose and on my skin heavy on the citrus and tea notes (other notes are peony, amber, vetiver and musk). I have to say that I think this sampler would be great for those starting out on their perfume adventure…the packaging is exquisite, the fragrances are lovely and with the purchase of a sampler you get a coupon worth fifteen dollars off of a future full bottle.

I have been wanting to try Providence Perfume Co for a while now for I am always on the lookout for a good natural perfume. The closest I got was when I planned on ordering some essential oils that PRovidence Perfume Co sells but I backed out b/c the tomato leaf e.o. that I really wanted was gone. One of these days I will have to order samples.

Agreed. The INEKE sampler is great for introducing people to perfume. It’s got a nice mix and the fragrances are easy to wear.

Chemical Bonding is my favorite out of that set. Then I like Field Notes from Paris and Derring Do.

Chemical Bonding doesn’t seem to get much mention/love and I am not sure why that is (I happen to like it). My FBs are Field Notes, Evening EiG (my absolute favorite leather) and Derring Do. But after yesterday’s wearing of Balmy Days (and it reminding me of vintage Grass) I kind of want a bottle of that one!
What is your take on Chemical Bonding?

I get a lot of citrus and tea from it. I was amazed at how long the citrus part of it lasted on me and I think the tea adds a nice balancing herbal note that keeps the citrus smelling crisp.

For me, Chemical Bonding was very dull. Just straight up mainstream-men’s-generic-sport-water-scent. I did’t get exciting tea or citrus, and certainly none of the other notes you mentioned. Very ozonic and not great. More like sporty deodorant than anything else. Perhaps it doesn’t get a lot of talk because you have to have very specific skin chemistry to get the good stuff?

I thought Chemical Bonding smelled like freshly cut grass. I quite liked it, but wished it were more substantial. The name seems at odds with the scent to me–it wasn’t one of the first ones I wanted to try from that set.

good morning! It is cold here in the Chicago burbs but since it isn’t windy, I am not going to complain. I pulled out my little sample of Volnay Brume d’Hiver and it is just so perfect for a cold spring day. I wish I were better at naming the things I smell! There is such a great sharp note in all the floral that I just love.

I was feeling inspired and don’t often do this, but I layered some Balenciaga Paris on top and it smells wonderful. A perfect scent for a crisp, spring day. It’s green, leafy, with a clean violet-jasmine smell. Perked me right up!

Dealing with some seriously bad news today family-wise. Plus the weather turned cold, so I’m wrapped in my big black sweater with a huge turtleneck (if it can be called that, it’s kinda ridiculous since the “neck” is practically as long as a sleeve and covers my head when extended) and big dolman sleeves. The fiance calls it my “flying squirrel” sweater. Also wearing my comfy black boots and my comfort scent this winter: Lyric Woman.

Today I’m starting on the BPAL perfume oil samples I got last month. First up is Titania, described by the BPAL website as: “white grape, white peach, iced pear, musk rose, sweet pea, moonflower and snapdragon”. It is a nice little fruity floral. I decided to explore perfume oils from BPAL, since they have such a huge choice, and I already like the Possets perfume oils. It will be interesting to see if I prefer one company over the other.

BPAL scares me. There’s a ridiculous amount of perfume oils to choose from! I know several people who are BPAL fanatics and talk about trading/selling and what the heck are imps! I’m sure the oils are amazing, but the cult-like status of that site has me a bit intimidated.

My method for searching BPAL’s site: search by a specific note, and then within each description, scroll to the bottom of the description to read the full list of notes.

I like Alice (a little spicy) and Plunder (very spicy).

Oh I have several of their perfume oils and wear them fairly often, especially if I want a low key scent for close quarters. I don’t know what your tastes are, and possibly the one I have are no longer available as they change rotations regularly, but the ones listed below are my favorites.
      1) Mouses Long and Sad Tale
      2) Arrival at the Sabbath and Homage to the Devil
      3) Zephyr
      4) TKO
      5) Blossoms in Springtime

Good luck, the choices are vast and really enjoy their literary and artistic references.

Wearing Tom of Finland by ELdO, or at least I was eight hours ago: sexy as hell but not as much lasting power as you would think.

Took the train from Rome to Florence today and finally after days of rain we have sun! It’s such a beautiful city. Can’t wait to really start exploring it tomorrow.

I’m wearing Tauer’s Carillon Pour Un Ange. This is a very strange (but interesting) perfume. Sometimes I get a lovely waft of delicate flowers but sometimes its just green, bitter, mossy, and even murky. I think I like it but I’m not sure yet.

Oh, I like that one… but like a lot of Tauers, it’s polarizing. I get flowers and green shoots and mushrooms and the earth they’re all growing out of, and it’s very spring-like to me. I’ve never managed to buy a bottle, and probably won’t – it’s SO radiant that all I need is a little dab, and I’m still working off my 2nd 1ml sample.

It’s roses and violets and all things French for me today. A taste of France at tonight’s local symphony, featuring both classical and contemporary music – Faure’s Requiem as well as Les Mis – inspired my choices. SOTD is L’Occitane Delices des Fleur, the scent of the Laduree macaroons. SOTE will be Chanel Misia; I’ve been saving my sample for just such a special occasion! Perhaps something to eat at our local creperie on the way there, and then a glass of merlot to savor tonight’s performance . . .

Sampling LOTV scents today – I have Oriza L. Legrand’s Miguet Fleuri on one hand and Parfums DelRae Debut on the other. Early on the Oriza smelled sooo pretty, where as the Debut has a sharp edge, I think it might be the Linden, which smelled good, but not as good as the Oriza, which is truly heartbreakingly beautiful.

Now, 7 hours later, the Oriza has faded to be very faint, almost gone, but the Debut is still there, closer to the skin, with the sharp edge gone, smelling great – much like the Oriza did earlier, in fact.

Debut has the best lasting power of any LOTV I have ever used. Oriza smells sooo pretty, and 6-7 hours for an LOTV scent is nothing to shake a stick at. They are both wonderful! (Hmm, I need to find some more superlatives besides soooo pretty, it looks like! )

My most recent purchase was a blind buy for the bottle–L de Lolita Lempicka Fleur du Corail. The bottle is adorable, and has a charm with my initial covered in “pearls.” It helped that I’ve liked every LL I’ve tried, at least in edp. Coral Flower is quite nice, too. It reminds me of grapefruit with brown sugar. What are you thinking of buying? Would it be a blind buy, or do you actually dislike the perfume?

Scent triplet with Rue Cambon! I am traveling, and brought only few samples (to Washington DC), so wearing 31 RC the 3rd day in a row has brought about a new appreciation of the scent. My usual habit of wearing the many options in rotation does not allow this deeper appreciation and deeper sense of getting to know the perfume that has come with consecutive wear. Interesting …..

The scent of dirt and grass has a very powerful effect on me, not sure what it brings up – childhood memories or what, but it is strong. Every once in a while, I’ll do what I call “grass therapy” and lay face down in the yard and just inhale. Not for too long, because I get itchy.

SOTD = Atelier Cologne Santal Carmin

I get along very well with the Atelier Cologne line and I just bappen to have a big honking 200 mLs which I won last year from Lucas’ Chemist in the Bottle blog where he invited readers to send in a picture to celebrate the blog’s second birthday. The notes say there’s lime and bergamot as some of the top notes but I don’t smell them at all – I get lots of saffron, sandalwood, woods, and cozy vanilla. This is a warming cozy scent and perfect for today’s chilly weather.

You got me completely hooked on that one. I can’t thank you enough.

Your photo was so clever! You were the clear winner.

I’ll have to try one of the later ACs sometime, to see if it disappears on me like the earlier ones. Stupid musk anosmia.

Shangri La for me tonight after a day of frustration. It is doing the job beautifully…this one really rings my bell! So deep and rich and womanly.

Attrape-Coeur for me today. Two spritzes still going strong 15 hours later.

SOTD is YSL Cinema, which I have been trying to like, and today I think I do. The cinnamon seemed just right. Don’t know that I want a bottle, but might use up my decant.
