If you have a free minute, do tell us your fragrance of the day.
I was undecided until I saw the news about Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. Now I'm wearing Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.
Upcoming: we have two community projects this week. On Friday (2/6), we're celebrating National Grapefruit month. Wear a fragrance with grapefruit; extra credit if Grapefruit (or Pamplemousse or Pomelo or whatever) is in the name of the scent.
Then on Sunday (2/8), we're celebrating this blog's 10th birthday: wear a fragrance you learned about on Now Smell This, whether from a review, another reader, a swap, anything.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hermès lambskin gloves in 'bleu paradis' are (!) €460.
continuing my use up those samples February, I am wearing Montale Moon Aoud. I think I like this one better than Red Aoud (its closest Montale sibling to my nose). Moon Aoud has more vetiver.
I am so behind on Montale…probably more proper to say they’ve just left my radar entirely. I did like a few but can’t keep up!
I like your “use up your samples February”. I might have to do that in March. My only issue is that I will be stuck at work with a fragrance that I don’t like. Has that happened to you?
Make it “Use up the samples you like and put the ones you don’t like in a baggie for the next Freebie meet giveaway” month – life is too short to wear perfume you don’t like, unless you are trying to punish someone who likes it even less than you that is captive in your prescence!
My own plan is “Use up the samples I have, but then buy the ones that were gone first, since those were the ones I liked the best!” month. LOL.
Absolutely. Most days I’m testing samples, since I’m still learning what I like. And since I generally don’t like about 60% of what I try, that’s a lot of days where I find myself at work wearing a scent I’d rather not be wearing. I keep a stash of those first aid alcohol wipes in my purse — those little squares in the foil pouches — and sometimes they get used pretty early in the day 🙂 Usually that plus soap and water is enough to defeat the stinker… though of course, it’s never enough for the truly offensive stuff – ha!
Sometimes if I’ve had a bad run — say 3-4 days in a row of scents that don’t work — I’ll retreat from sampling for a few days, til I’ve overcome the trauma 😉
I love the name of the new Jardin. Mainly because it reminds me of a lovely novel by Philippe Claudel.
I’m wearing another Ellena creation; Eau Parfumee au The Vert. Perfect in all it’s lightness.
We’re cousins then 🙂
In Absolue Pour Le Soir by MFK, conservatively anointed.
We’re chilling here, such an untamed scent is justified.
I think ^^
Nice!
I am wearing FM Portrait of a Lady. I am not sure about this one, I have tried it several times, sometimes I love it sometimes I don’t.
It is working great today, I sprayed very little at the back of my neck and I am enjoying it a lot.
With some scents I think the right amount makes a change.
I totally agree about the right amount making the difference in whether you like a scent or not. Some I like best liberally applied and some I need to just “walk through” (the mist, that is). I even have a couple of perfumes that I only dab.
I have some perfumes that I only dab too, I am a little disappointed in FM packaging, they are complicated to dab. I think Portrait would work better like that.
If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t like PoaL. It’s been a few years since I tested it, so I don’t remember why. When this happens, I just feel relieved that I’m not dying for something very $$$.
I also admire her, but we aren’t friends.
I think it is very beautiful but I don’t really like it. And I don’t know why because I love the genre and I love Editions des Parfums.
Wearing Captured in Amber from Envoyage. I really liked all three of the perfumes in this set and will eventually end up buying a FB of at least one of them. Every single perfume of Shelley Waddington’s that I’ve tried has worked beautifully on my skin
Oh, I have samples of that trio and like them all- this is just the perfect time of year to sport them too 🙂
Zelda was FB worthy for me and has become one of my top 5 fumes. This is a great line and when my “fume freeze” has expired in April, I am hoping to do more sampling from En Voyage.
Went through my samples this morning to see what goodies I was forgetting about. A few people mentioned it recently, so I thought I’d give Vanille Insensée another shot–it’s been sitting around for at least a year and I brushed it off as being kind of boring. Today, though, I find it lovely and fresh and it’s conjuring images of a perfect, not-too-sweet key lime pie.
Wearing Prada Candy l’eau.
Demeter Russian Leather. So simple, so very good.
It’s my birthday and my hubby stayed home so I could sleep in and relax while he cares for baby. :). As such I’m just lounging around and haven’t showered yet, debating what to wear. My throat is really sore and I’m afraid I’m catching whatever baby has, so I better keep it light. I tend to feel suffocated by scent, cat hair, blah blah blah when I’m sick. As such, maybe osmanthe yunnan? Any other suggestions for good light scents?
Happy Birthday! That was a lovely birthday gesture 🙂
Im feeling like im getting sick again too (it was only a week ago!) and last night I wore Osmanthe Yunnan as it was the lightest, gentlest scent I could think of.
Oh NO!!! Back to back sickness is the worst. 🙁 Feel better soon!
Maybe one of the Bulgari tea scents? I love Au the Blanc, but The Verte gets lots of love around here too.
Hope you and baby feel better soon.
Happy Birthday! I hope you get to feeling better soon and can enjoy the day.
Happy birthday, and so sorry you’re not feeling well!
Happy Birthday! Osmanthus Yunnan is wonderful. Hope you feel better soon, being sick on your birthday is no fun 🙁
Happy birthday, and feel better soon! Often I just avoid scents when I’m feeling really sick.
Have a happy birthday!I hope you feel better soon!
Happy Birthday 🙂
Happy birthday! Get well soon! Origins Ginger is my “cold fighter”. I find it both warming and refreshing.
Yes, I can imagine that it is both warming and refreshing! I should perhaps make myself some ginger tea too!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your well deserved day of You, Sun Mi! 🙂
Enjoy your special day!
Happy Birthday, and I hope you feel better later so you can enjoy your special day!
Too funny, it’s also Mr. Lucy’s birthday and I am watching our baby all day so he can get some sleep. I wanted to go to the fancy grocery store to pick up items for a special dinner and to the mall to get him a gift…but then I realized several hours of quiet time is what he wanted more than anything.
Osmanthe Yunnan is beautiful, but my suggestion is to send hubby to the drugstore for Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Soothing Vapor Bath. It’s for baby baths, but I’ve been using it as a shower gel for years. It has eucalyptus and rosemary – With the steam, everything clears up quite a bit. After that, some Mrs. Grass chicken noodle soup and back to bed.
I’m sorry you’re sick, but I hope you find a way to enjoy the day. Happy Birthday!
Wow that sounds great!
Happy birthday and get better soon. It’s always best to avoid scents so you don’t end up having a negative experience related to your cold.
I never thought of that Ann – what a great point!
Happy birthday and get better soon! Sleep is the best remedy.
Happy birthday. I usually avoid perfume if I don’t feel well but frankincense always soothes me so I occasionally look for a perfume with lots of it to wear or smear myself with my homemade massage oil which has tons of frankincense and cypress EO.
I wonder if I have any frankincense heavy samples lying around…
Thanks for all of the love everyone! I ended up trying my sample of Wood Sage and Sea Salt, which opened as buttered popcorn but has settled down really nicely. 🙂
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Sorry you’re not feeling well.
Happy Birthday and get well soon!
I wore Un Jardin Sur Le Nil today too. In hot, humid, I feel crappy weather, this and Apres La Mousson are the only 2 that cut it, and both these (and Voyage) are the emptiest bottles in my collection.
I think you and I are among the very few who appreciate Apres La Mousson – that melon was a deal breaker for many. In truth, I find it more wearable than Sur le Nil, which, though seriously pretty, ends up being too high pitched for me to wear for long periods of time.
I know what you mean about Sur le Nil. I tried it side by side with Pacifica Lotus Garden and the Pacifica is almost exactly the same, but slightly sweeter so I found it more wearable. And bonus for being much cheaper!
I agree – I got some of the Lotus Garden body products to wear with or instead of UJSLN.
I too prefer Mousson to Nil, although I love the latter as well.
On me, Nil is chopped veggies with light woods at the base. Interesting, but not something I like wearing because it just sits there on top of my skin and doesn’t blend with my skin chemistry (if that makse sense)?
I want hot, humid, crappy weather. I’ll trade you the 14 inches of snow in my yard!
Yet another Jardin Sur Le Nil wearer here. Interestingly, I find the splash bottle really mitigates any Melon of Doom aspect to it.
Un Jardin apres la Mousson was one of the first bottles I ever bought for myself. I don’t get any melon but lots and lots of ginger, yum!
Count me in as a lover of Après le Mousson. I was lucky enough to get a bottle of the dry body oil as well. Fantastic scent.
ohhh, Monsieur Li contains jasmine, something to look forward to sampling!
I am also going through samples this month, and I chose to wear Lush The Smell of Weather Turning. At first it smelled the way cough syrup tastes, but it has transitioned to something almost smoky. I’m not sure that I like it, but it is interesting, and it seems to be lasting longer on my skin than other samples I’ve tried recently. Do you all have that problem? I find that when I have to dab a fragrance from a small sample vial, the sample tends to disappear before I make it into work. And I only work less than a mile away from home.
The only way to make most small sample vials last is by dumping the whole thing on yourself. Otherwise you’re just not getting very much on.
Yep. I only get a few uses out of 1mL splash/dab sample vials. 2-4 depending on the fragrance, typically. I only daintily dab if I’m feeling cautious. If I actually want to wear it, I slather.
Thirded–and conversely, if something’s too big when sprayed, dabbing works nicely to quiet it down.
That’s me. Those tiny vials–I just dump the entire contents on my inner and outer wrists, up high enough so that my watch doesn’t rub off the scent (my watch band smells wonderful… of goodness knows how many frags).
One of the best things I’ve ever smelled was a piece of bubble wrap that came taped around a bunch of samples. It was very disappointing when none of the samples individually lived up to it. I kept that bubble wrap to sniff for months, though. I envy you your watch band. Maybe I need to start wearing a watch again.
Oh, and I just dab repeatedly in the same spots. I’m klutzy to start with, so not brave enough to actually pour.
I dump about 1/4 ml on one wrist and as it drips around my arm, I catch the runoff with the other wrist. Soooo elegant but gets enough on. Helpful hint: do this over the sink 😉
I thought Weather Turning was an interesting thing – the top is freaky-weird, but after that it’s a quiet woody-benzoin thing that I liked very much.
I’m in Cuir Mauresque (again) today, but on its own rather than layered. Love it both ways!
I have been meaning to hunt down my Mauresque decant and wear it for months now. Great leather scent.
It is indeed 🙂
Yesterday, I wore Havana Vanille and promptly decided that since Beauty Encounter sent me that 20% because they missed me, to get the larger bottle of HV. But if Aldehyde 44 would come back, I would be snatching that up. But since Chanel no 22 is similar, I think I will be wearing that today.
HV, aka “Vanille Absolument”? I love this perfume. It’s a winter staple. I prefer the old name though.
I prefer the old name as well. I wonder why L’Artisan discontinued this one.
Cuir de Lancome today. Celebrating my new Oregon drivers license, moving from another state I had to take the written test and thankfully passed on the first try. I have been driving for more than 40 years and it would have been embarrassing had I failed!
Good for you! That would be a tough pill to swallow, ha ha.
California is the same way. I was shocked that I had to take the test again when I moved out here. Many don’t pass the first time, luckily I did! The less time spent in the DMV, the better!
I had to do the same in Illinois. It had been years since I’d taken any kind of written test. I was so nervous that I actually studied and took the online practice test. Twice. Congratulations on passing.
The written test I can manage – it’s the eye test that gives me trouble…
I had trouble this January with the color of the peripheral flashing lights in the eye exam. Fortunately, the examiner gave me several guesses! 🙂
Sorry to butt in and get personal, but have you had a visual field test at the optometrist’s recently? Glaucoma can very gradually erode your peripheral vision. (There’s a lot of glaucoma in my family, including an early-onset variety, so I get tested regularly.)
Just had them checked, Laurels, and they are fine. This is good information to know, though!
Congratulations!
MiN New York Barrel, which today reminds me of mezcal. Super yummy.
mezcal, yowsa! You are super niche today.
I’m sick, stupid cold! And I have to spend time outside today, so I went with TF Tobacco Vanille, since it is so smooth, warm, and cozy.
I’m sick too! Let’s hope we get well soon!
and to you, too.
Sending feel better soon wishes to you . . .
Feel better soon!
Yes I hope we’re all on the mend soon!
SOTD PdE Musc Tonkin Extrait from a sample. I feel like I am wrapped in a buffalo skin blanket-Cozy, musky with the teeniest hint of a flower here and there just to remind me that spring will arrive- eventually!
Has anyone tried the EDP version? The extrait was sold out everywhere before I had even decided if I liked it.
Yes, I tried MT EDP latest formulation and didn’t like it much. It smelled very sharp and sour on my skin. I have a bottle of vintage Bandit perfume which has a similar edge, but is stunningly gorgeous in its own badass way, like finding tiny yellow flowers in a barrel of peat moss.
What a lovely description :)!
Thanks. To be more precise, Bandit smells like tiny yellow flowers that have braided into the underarm hair of a recently disinterred Iron Age bog person.
Lol!
Good one!!!
Yowza! That sounds like one unique fragrance!!!
Last night I enjoyed my freebiemeet loot by wearing Amouage Epic Woman body cream, which is fabulously potent and oh so luxurious. <3
This morning I'm wearing just a dab of SSS Rose Volupte. Unfortunately I think I'm catching a cold… I'm starting to feel quite congested and blah.
I love Epic..how do you find the cream? The perfume is fab
Agreed. I wore Epic yesterday.
I have never smelled the perfume, so I can’t compare. The cream has a delightful and bright black tea note and a savory mix of spices, as well as lots of powdery dense rose and expensive smelling incense.
The cream is so strongly scented that a little dollop attracts attention from several feet away! It fades to a skin scent within a couple hours, but it does linger. As a nice bonus, the jar is really beautiful and the cream itself is richly moisturizing. It really is so nice I might buy another Amouage cream some day as a treat to myself.
wow-sounds lovely!
I am always afraid to buy scented lotions because my skin is so sensitive. I am sure this is high quality!
I don’t use scented lotion either and the ones ai do have are part of gift sets. The L’Occitane shea body lotion is supposed to only smell of shea butter but it is too strong. And I am actually allergic to the unscented Philosophy Body Lotion!
Still not feeling great, but dragged myself to work.
🙁
SOTD is Héritage de Guerlain. I may have over sprayed… Oh well!
Hope all feeling poorly will feel better soon!
Wearing Hiram Green’s Shangri-La and finding it nicer than some reviews might have be believe.
I’m with you…I really enjoy Shangri La. You smell amazing!
BV today 🙂
You smell great! I almost put this on… and I keep struggling with whether or not to get the shower gel. It seems like a wonderful thing to have a hot and fragrant shower with BV. It’s one of my go-to scents now.
I’m in BV, too — twins!
Another, and completely different Ellena creation for me this morning…VC&A First.
I love First!
Wearing loads of vintage Hermes Amazone perfume, and wafting loads of vetiver, moss and blackcurrant bud.
Amazone extrait is TOO GOOD, isn’t it? So seventies in the best possible way. I have a quarter-ounce bottle and it just amazes me every time so much as open the box to give it a sniff. It’s incredibly well made.
Hey Pyramus,
Amazone was one of my first loves as a teen back in 1981 obsessed with perfume. I was lucky enough to find an older eau de parfum bottle last year. *Happy dance*
That sounds delicious!
Mmmm, sounds fantastic! I tried the current reformulation, and liked it a lot. I can only imagine the vintage.
Missionista – if you can, get your hands on an older bottle. The addition of real oakmoss brings out the juicy/pulpy in cassis – gives it beautiful depth.
The vetiver and amber give it a warmth and sparkle that I don’t smell in the newer version.
Oh, vintage Amazone is just to die for. I got an old “pour” bottle of the edt, and I just adore it, especially in the spring. It has all the goodies of something like GIII, but it’s warmer and more voluptuous with the flowers and greens. I can only imagine how good the parfum smells!
AGree – it’s really lovely stuff.
Going back to some of vintage loves so it is Victoria for me today…the first scent from VS…so different from the current offerings…
I recently sniffed the new version of Victoria, there’s nothing there! It’s so very light, almost non-existent.
The original (circa late 1980s) was/is a gorgeous rose amber…..would definitely not describe it as light! I was fortunate enough to obtain a vintage original bottle in pristine condition from a good friend who knew how much I wanted to “steal” it from her….granted there is only 1/4 of the juice left which I save and use extremely sparingly……
Original Victoria was SOOOOOO gorgeous. I’ve snagged a couple of bottles (one unopened!) on ebay but they’ve all been in terrible shape. Sadface.
Well I’m home awaiting delivery of a new man chair to replace my husband’s old chair that has been growing its own ecosystem.
SOTD for me, the cat and the chair delivery person, vintage Bandit.
Congrats on the replacement 😉
You all smell great!
I can only speak for myself and the cat 🙂 The delivery guys smelled like delivery guys.
The two guys who delivered the chair were totally bummed they had to work today and miss the Pats parade.
Ha! Ditto for me… except it is his wallet that needs to be composted… Found one that I really like (something called Wurkin Stiffs Slim–with blue leather lining) and am thinking I’ll give it to him for St. Valentine’s Day–then I can avoid the delicate conversation about his fecund dollars!
Haha! Love the name of that wallet! Apparently our purses, wallets and phones have more creepy crawlies on them than a public bathroom so it’s a good idea to wipe em down or buy a new one from time to time.
having an amouage week..
Journey for Woman today
My favorite Amouage 🙂
Oh, so envious! Enjoy!
Hope everyone with colds, flu and ennui feel better soon! February always seems like the longest month of the year rather than the shortest – just looked out the window and it’s snowing again, boo. Wearing DSH Inner Sanctum today, my very favorite rose/incense combination.
Ha, well I’m not sick but I do have that “ennui”. Maybe I’ll blame it on February. You are right: it feels l o n g.
Oooh, that Inner Sanctum does sound interesting. Does it treat that “ennui” thingie, which I find often lingers longer than a simple virus…?
Guerlain Lys Soleia. I didn’t like this at all at first, but it’s been growing on me after I fell for Shangai Lilly. Today it’s cloudy and and a bit cooler here, and I’m enjoying it very much.
Shanghai Lily is very pretty, maybe too much so, it that makes sense. Have you ever tried DK Gold?
if not it…
SOTD is Dior Eau Noire. A lovely person gave me 5 ml of it and now it’s all I want to wear! It’s all smokey lavender, immortelle and some other stuff. Created by Francis Kurkdjian.
The notes in this one sound right up my ally. Need to try!
It’s a favorite of mine too. I describe it as lavender, coffee and immortelle. My only sadness is that I have met people who despise it 🙁 Including my boyfriend!
Oh no!!!! Merlin, I’m sorry to hear that.
SOTD is Lumiere Blanche from Olfactive Studio; I just got a decant after being without for more than a month, and smelling it again makes me so happy.
My SOTD is my signature scent; Nectarine Blossom and Honey by JM.
This has been my favorite scent for many years now. It is my “happy scent” and I always make sure I have a bottle in my collection.
That’s a great scent. 🙂
I second that….very non-offensive and as far as I am concerned a good “office” scent…..many people complain about the longevity of JMs but when I spray them on my scarf the fragrance lasts for days…..
Wow, lots of NSTers down with colds/flu! Hope you all feel better soon.
Wearing Eau de Merveilles today. The fiance says it smells like celery, but I think he just likes riling me up because he’s said that now about three perfumes I have. I told him there are no celery notes in it, but the fresh sort of smell from some notes might be making him think of the freshness of celery. He insists it’s celery and I roll my eyes, give him the condescending “yes dear” and tell him he’s broken.
He then looked up notes for perfume and shouted BEAVER MUSK!!! while on the commute in to work this morning. I then explained how musks of animals have been used in perfume, but most are synthetic…. yada yada yada… I told him ambergris was in the one I was wearing today and he looked at me like I was insane.
I’ll never get him to wear perfume because he’s weirded out too much by it but at least he tolerates my manic passion for it. :p
Your post gave me a big laugh. Your guy sounds like loads of fun. If he’s looking up perfume ingredients, even to be contrarian, I’d say he’s definitely interested in perfume. Keep working on him and eventually he will cave.
I keep trying! Who knows, maybe for a special event I can get him to put something on. 🙂
Yes! Put together a little set of man perfume samples for him to try. (See if he likes Grain de Plaisir 🙂 )
HAHA, celery’s such a funny note to latch onto. My SO thinks everything he doesn’t like smells like incense. It’s kinda cute.
My hubbie has three responses to perfume. One is “That smells good!”, another one is “It does’t smell like anything,” and the last one is “That smells a lot!” I wash those off, since the last thing I want to do is repel the adorable man.
Fortunately, his smell goods and my smells goods often match up!
And I don’t buy the ones he is anosmic (sp??) to, since, what is the point? Except for Dolce and Gabbana The One. I have that for my default, unoffensive, at the office and whatever I put on in the morning has disappeared rollerball.
Happy days.
Z is almost the same way. He lets me know when something smells good, like celery, or he’ll wrinkle his nose and say he’s not fond of it. If he doesn’t like one that I love I tell him “tough” and he shrugs his shoulders and that’s it. He hardly notices half the time when I do have a perfume on and a lot of the time he’ll say he likes a fragrance one day, but then not like the exact same one another day.
My hubbie is the same. He is very accepting of my fragrance habit, generally chooses indifference to my many sprays or smelly habits when I am testing. But I certainly do like it when he’ll comment that something smells good. I am also lucky he likes roses and doesn’t mind skanky jasmine accords.
Haha so funny. I’m always forcing dh to describe what he smells in a perfume. If he really likes something his eyes light up and he goes, “yeah!” If he doesn’t, he hesitates. I think he is afraid to say something negative about something I like. So far he likes Coromandel (smells like double bubble), lddm (smells like a Christmas craft shop where they make cedar toys) and Bvlgari Black (…bicycle repair shop).
Probably a good idea to go slow with this, it can be kind of bewildering, especially for guys (sorry I’m being sexist) who grew up in a culture that views perfume as something very feminine.
Your husband’s description of LDDM is very evocative, and has moved it up on my list.
Hi Laurels, if you haven’t smelled it yet you are in for a treat. I can send you a sample if you like.
My email is iphintaur, at aol, if you haven’t had second thoughts!
He’s not overly fond of incense either, which I LOVE, but he’s not put off by it enough to ask me to wash it off.
So cute!
My partner has to rate all my scents. Most get a half out of 3. Some of them get 0 which means its a smell that is totally neutral towards. Tubereuse Criminelle is a blockbuster at 2! A lot of the time he says he can’t smell anything. Oh well!
Oh, and there are a few he actively dislikes, like Eau Noire. I try not to wear those when he is around 🙂
I do get “celery” out of a certain jasmine material and sometimes out of vetiver… so he’s not necessarily nuts. 🙂
That said, you’re the one who gets to choose what you’re wearing.
Hee, hee. It’s cute that he’s looking up notes on his own, even if it’s just to be silly.
All of this talk of celery reminds me of the Portlandia skit with Steve Buscemi as the sad sack celery salesman/advertising executive. Very funny.
Haha! I forgot about that one.
My SOTD is Chanel No 5 EDT. Rainy and cold here today, so I’m staying inside as long as possible.
Perfect. I’ve been putting No 5 on in the evenings as my “come down” fragrance. It is wonderful to wear when I want to get comfy.
Joy is like that for me…
Sotd: Furze from Lush. Continuing yesterday’s gourmand streak. Now my nose is stuck to my wrist.
So yummy.
I hope all the sick are soon healed. Seriously, everyone, keep drinking that tea with honey and lemon–our immune systems can use the boost.
SOTD is a sample (from recent swap) of Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose. I like it a lot. But probably not a full bottle’s worth.
Put on Chanel Bois des Iles from a sample I’ve had forever. Didn’t like it the first time I tried it, but it gets so much love that I thought I’d try again and see what I thought. It is nice and smooth, but not for me.
I didn’t like Bois des Iles until after I liked SSS Champage de Bois. It took me a while to get and understand woods. There are some frags that I revisit over the years to see if my nose ever changes opinions about them. Sometimes I’ll come around to something, and other times not.
Send it my way?
I think there is something about the smoothness that I dislike, if that makes any sense!
It’s that time of year when winter begins to feel verrrrrrrry long, more snow last night and today and temps getting to below zero tonight. Staying warm and inside with EL’s Sensuous Noir.
In a cozy haze of Sous le Toit de Paris today. Over sprayed and loving it!
That’s a good one to double dose on.
Sotd was ombre indigo. Not sure if i like it, might work better in warm weather.
I needed something warm and cheerful and lasting on a dreary day, so I chose TC Alahine. Alahine smells like sunshine to me.
Alahiiiiiiiine!
🙂
I really love Sur le Nil, Robin. Great choice, and I’m excited about that new Jardin.
Today I’m wearing Gingembre by Dawn Spencer Hurwitz. I love this scent. Great ginger accord, very warm and cozy.
Hi Joe!!!
Hi Ann!
I still love it as much as ever! Will need to replace my Sur le Nil body lotion soon, too.
Mmm that sounds like a nice one to have in a lotion form.
I like the lotion too. I’m really curious about all the Hermes body products that have come out in the past year or so.
Get better soon everyone who is feeling poorly!
Here we are getting more snow and I am in FM Noir Epices for the second day running. It’s almost like a cocoon of green, moist spiciness.
I’m testing Knize Ten Golden Edition. Last night I was wearing that on one hand and Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum Parfum du Soir on the other. They went well together.
To me, Golden Edition is a slightly sweeter, more floral and powdery version. LPdS has what Katie Puckrik lovingly described as “the confectionary delights of… powdered sugar-dusted roses, vanilla-dipped almonds and moody oud.”
LPdS reminds me of Lush Rose Jam, but more complex and less flamboyant.
I may need decants of both Golden Edition and LPdS.
Well, that description and the Rose Jam comparison put LPdS on my wish list too!
I wouldn’t have identified oud, myself, but it’s probably these deeper notes that keeps this from boring me as most other sweet perfumes do.
Lots of sickies around here today. Hope you all feel better soon.
I started the day in CdG Hinoki but it didn’t last through the gym so now that I’m home I’m in Mohur EDP. I’m not sick but agree that today would be a great one for tea on the sofa and a good book. Instead I’m eating my sandwich as slowly as possible (and fighting off the cat who really wants my cheese) since we have more shelves to hang today and my husband is, as usual, rearing to go.
I’m wearing SL Fleurs d’Oranger. I smell pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. 🙂
I love SL Fleur d’Oranger, you smell lovely
FdO kills me! I bet you smell great. But it is so moody on me. Different application sites, different days, it is either smile-inducing, lush, and absolutely lovely… or it goes acrid and vaguely sweaty. Sigh!
Ha, you sure do!! That one’s really special. Do you have the version that’s more cumin-y or more BWF? (I think both are great.)
I got bogged down in a sudden obsession with orange (notes, color, or both), and then the Hermes announcement. I’ve been enjoying Eau des Merveilles lately. Have been pondering the decant vs. discounted bottle conundrum. This is weird on my part, because I’ve randomly tried Merveilles ever since it was released, and until now, didn’t “get” it. Why I have Suddenly Urgent Feelings about it, I don’t know. Same thing happened with Sur le Nil last fall; requested a bottle for Christmas.
But then I saw the announcement for the new Hermes, took in the artwork (seriously, I’m an absolute sucker for Hermes artwork), and started mentally rearranging future purchases. I don’t necessarily get excited about jasmine, but kumquat…!
So there’s a summary of my mental perfume world today. Upshot: I’m still scentless.
I think both the color and the note are energizing and happy, so perhaps that is why?
I love that Hermes orange! I painted a chair in my bedrooms and had the guy at Home Depot color match an Hermes carrier bag! And the chair is gorgeous, I must say.
SOTD L’eau de L’Artisan – to go along with our “wintery mix” weather…
I was feeling in a “foodie” mood so I chose CSP Amour de Cacao. Now I’m craving a nice square (oh, who am I kidding…a whole bar) of chocolate!
Oddly enough, I’ve had this bottle for at least 15 years and it still smells perfect…no changes whatsoever!
My charming Divine sample coffret just arrived yesterday, so today I’m trying Spirituelle (I’m on the west coast, in mild weather). The only scent I’ve tried previously from this house is the eponymous Divine, which is lovely, so I look forward to exploring the rest.
Oh, how wonderful I’m a great fan of the house! Did you get the masculines as well? L’homme de cœur is so beautiful and very unisex.
Four masculines and seven feminines, elegantly packaged and wrapped.
Have fun with them, they are so good. I’m not familiar with their latest masculine but have tried all the others. Their Eau Divine is gorgeous as well.
What do you think of the Spirituelle? A spicy rose sounds great.
Starting to work thru my Twisted Lily ‘Best of 2014’ samples. SOTD is Dasein Winter. Christmas in a bottle!
I really liked that one!
Because of the discussion yesterday, I’m wearing Vanille Noire du Mexique. If I have to be honest, I prefer vanilla as a supporting player, but this is nice and not too sweet.
I’m like that with vanilla too – vanilla as part of a composition is good, whereas I get a little bored, maybe, with vanilla as the center note. (Which is okay… I know some people find florals boring, but those I nearly always love.)
Started out by draining my teeensy sample of SSS’s Lieu de Reves… and realized what I really like is the wood… realized I wasn’t fooling anyone and about an hour later applied Champagne de Bois, which I love–especially on a cool, grey day.
And Gesundheit! to all who are fighting colds.
I started out in Eau de Rochas. Had a meeting this afternoon with the parent of a student who is struggling. Obvious anxiety problems, and most likely a learning problem that has not been addressed. The parent’s solution? Upping the pressure on him, and giving him more lessons in the subject he is having the most difficulty with. He must just grow out of any problems he is facing. Grrrrr…. I am exorcising my anger in Piguet’s Casbah. Incense and cooling angelica.
Wow, no wonder the student is anxious. At least he has an understanding teacher who is trying to help him.
Ohhh, this makes me so sad. I have a cousin who has a learning disability that wasn’t diagnosed until she was 19. Her parents just didn’t care enough and settled for thinking she was only capable of Cs and Ds in school. Had she gotten help as a child she might have been okay, but there just aren’t as many resources for adults and she’s been left to fend for herself. She’s been fired from every part-time retail job she’s tried for being too slow. I realize this parent has a different approach but the results could easily be just as disastrous. I hope you find a creative way to get this child some real help.
Thanks Nozknoz 😉 I hope I can help, unfortunately I may not have the requisite expertise.
Lucy, yes, that’s exactly my feeling here. I get sad AND angry at this kind of thing… Sorry about your cousin; hope things improve for her…
It had become a Byredo week for me.SOTD Black Saffron. It’s a favorite of mine from the brand.Strangely enough,I don’t have a fb of it as yet.Received a generous lot of Byredo samples from the local perfumerie, among them quite a lot of this one.Definitely fb worthy!I’m thinking either 1996 or Mojave Ghost for tomorrow’s SOTD.
I only recently smelled 1996 and fell in love with it. A decant is headed my way.
I love Black Saffron, too! It’s hardly ever mentioned, though…
i decided on Prada Candy today and am liking my choice.
It’s a great winter choice!
I like it, but I just dabbed a bit on while swinging through Macy’s… and the husband said, “NO.” Not just his usual, “Ehh, it’s okaaaay,” when he doesn’t really enjoy, but a big fat NO.
So there goes my plan to grab a mini. I should feel relieved, I suppose.
Dashed out of the hotel earlier than I expected this morning… sans scent, unfortunately. Now wearing Mary Greenwell Plum and looking forward to a reception later.
I am a bit late but SOTD was Cabochard. Thanks to a few very generous NST ladies I have enough leather-raunchy-smooth goodness to probably last me half a year, I love it : )
SOTD = A Lab on Fire What We Do In Paris is Secret
I haven’t worn this in a while. It is gorgeous…this was my entree to heliotrope, one of my favorite notes. This is a candidate for Sunday’s anniversary event!
SOTD is Cartier Baiser Vole Essence de Parfum. I picked up a sample at Nordstrom. I meant to try Baiser Vole edp again, because I saw it at the discounters and wanted to see whether I should put it on my to-buy list. The reviews of that one came out before I discovered perfume blogs, but people kept mentioning it in comments here (can’t remember who, sorry) and I love lily, so I gave it a whirl. Robin mentioned the Essence briefly in her review of another Cartier, but if I’m honest, it was the gold and yellow bottle that caught my eye–gold flankers tend to work for me. The Essence somehow manages to smell greener to me than the edp, despite the vanilla. I think I’m becoming a perfumista, though–my initial impression was “This is great,” but now I’m thinking, “Is it too linear? Am I going to get tired of it? Is it a bad thing that it lasts all day?”
