Happy Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Striptease Flowers by Le Soft Perfume.
Reminder: this Friday, 1/30, will be Oud Friday! Wear an oud fragrance.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Love the Earth image! I haven’t been outside yet here in NYC but it doesn’t seem as bad as they originally thought. Usually outside the city can get pretty bad.
SOTD is Ubar
Hope everyone is warm and safe. I am sipping on chai tea this morning and catching up on Netflix
We got basically an inch…nothing worth worrying about. But they called school 2 hours late yesterday, so got to sleep in anyway 🙂
Cool!
Hi Lovetosmellgood! I’ve been thinking about you welcoming a new family member around Christmas time. Has he (or she!) arrived?
Perhaps you’ve commented on this already, but do indulge me 😉
Yes, happy that we didn’t get the 2 feet they predicted, but even happier that the subways are closed and I can work from home!
Yes! Thanks for asking!
We welcomed baby girl Shakira in December!
7lbs 1 oz
I am still on maternity leave and enjoying every minute.
My husband is working from home today also.
The storm in NYC is a total bust – but better to be safe then sorry.
Welcome Shakira and congratulations!
Wonderful news! and very pretty name! What does Shakira stand for?
Yes, my husband is home too and has sequestered me to a separate room because I stink! Figs are one of his favorite fruit but I’ve still not gotten him to be a fan of Philosykos.
Shakira means grateful in Arabic. Very fitting name after 36 hours of labor!
I never thought I was strong enough to go through all of that!
Congrats on the new baby girl, and treasure every minute of that maternity leave!
Congratulations Smellgood! Wish you and your family a cozy day at home 🙂
Hooray, congratulations to you all!
Congratulations on your new baby, smellgood! 😀
Congratulations! Wishing a ton of happiness to you all!
Congrats on your new addition!
Congrats on baby Shakira!!! Enjoy every minute!
Thanks all! <3
Congrats on the new baby!Stay warm!
Congrats on the bebe. Stay warm!
Bvlgari man in black is my SOTD.
Like it? I have not tried yet.
Yep I do, although not in love with it. It’s sweet and spicy, mostly linear.
Thanks!
This is exactly why I love it … plus, it’s tuberose without the tuberose scent unless my nose is broken 🙂
You’re right, “Tuberose without the tuberose scent”! 🙂 I agree, it doesn’t have much of it. Do you own a full bottle?
I have a FB and when I bought it, the only size available was the 100 mLs. A little bit goes a long way so I have enough for several lifetimes 🙂
Yay! Enjoy your bottle!
I took advantage of “liberal leave” and crawled out of bed and left for work an hour later than usual, even though the roads were perfectly clear in my neck of the woods. I’ll have to keep waiting for that epic blizzard.
Wearing Petit Fracas layered with A La Nuit to lift my spirits. Unfortunately, it’s also making me crave dessert.
Then you’ll be happy (or not) to know it’s National Chocolate Cake Day!
And here I am with nothing but blackberries and whole grain “breakfast biscuits”. I may have to track down something more decadent, in honor of the holiday and all. 😉
National Chocolate Cake Day? (goes to look up recipes)
I am also wearing A La Nuit today, but in my case layered with SSS Champagne de Bois. I was inspired by last Friday’s comments. Its a great combination, glad I tried it.
I’ve never had a chance to smell Petit Fracas, but it sounds interesting.
I wrote that combo for layering day! 😀 I liked it so much that I’m getting a bit nutty about layering A La Nuit with all sorts of things.
Petit Fracas is a cheerful fruity “fleurmand” that smells exactly like what the notes claim. It isn’t exactly groundbreaking or elegant but it hits the spot when I want something sweet! It is rich enough that it smells like perfume, not shampoo.
Oh, then you are the one who inspired me! Thank you so much, I’m sure this combination will become part of my regular rotation. By the way, I also particularly like A La Nuit with Joy or with SSS Jour Ensoleille, although it seems to go will with any of the many perfumes that have a jasmine note.
Striptease Flowers is hilarious, as a name. The one of that set that appealed to me on notes was Etre Ici Et Ailleurs (I like that name).
SOTD is Tabac Aurea again, for cozy. No snow, but it’s cold and I’ve already had to put the one sheep that keeps getting out of the pen BACK twice this morning. 🙂
Heard from my daughter at college in CT; they shut down the dining halls and gave all the kids food boxes instead (bread, peanut butter, bottles of juice, fruit, stuff like that).
It’s a great name. Also my favorite so far of the line, although 2 left to try. In general though, liked her first line (Crazy whatever & Poppies) better than this one.
And what fun! I remember making oodles of noodles on a hot plate in my dorm when it snowed 🙂
Hot chocolate from pinched packets of Swiss Miss from the cafeteria!
I just saw a show on Food Network about the the 11 Best.Burgers.Ever. One from Ramen Co. (NYC) uses crisped ramen noodles as the bun and the burger is 75% meat and 25% fat. My mouth is watering just leaving this comment.
Your sheep sounds like our pony – when the weather gets miserable, he clearly believes that just on the other side of the fence, it is the 10th of June again, so he goes looking for the warmth and fresh grass.
We find him standing around in the snow, looking disappointed….
She’s so dumb! There are five ewes and one ram, and two adorable lambs, in that pen. Right outside the pen is… a gravel lot, and the gravel road, and also the big pond field where we currently have about fifty heifer calves getting ready to go off to the feedlot in Nebraska. Not a case of “grass greener,” just maybe boredom.
Luckily she’s not one of the mama ewes, or I would worry. The first thing she wants to do is go back into the pen, she just can’t figure out how to do it.
Finally got my hands on a bottle of Tea for Two after all this time reading about it and it’s not quite what I expected. My first thought was gingerale-Dzing!, and I don’t really get smokiness at all. I can only perceive the tea occasionally, and it reminds me more of Earl Grey. Maybe not my perfect smoky fragrance, but I think I found the relaxed, spicy scent I was looking for many years ago when I bought Roger & Gallet Gingembre.
Plus, I found a 50mL bottle for a discount, so I’m feeling pretty good. With the 10 sprays I put on this morning, 50mL may not last too long.
Tea for Two sounds interesting! But 10 sprays! It’s kind of fun to spritz with abandon, but it does make me grateful for online discounters. XD
The first thing I noticed was the resemblance to Dzing!, too.
Is this the newly released version? I wonder if they reformed most of the smoke out…
It’s in the newer packaging, but it’s a 50 mL bottle, which doesn’t seem to be for sale at the moment, so I’m not sure exactly how old/new it is. I thought I’ve seen a few comments saying it hasn’t changed, though, so it’s probably just my nose.
10 sprays of Tea for Two?!! (faints) 🙂
I like this perfume but cannot do more than 2… ok, maybe 3 sprays.
Hm, maybe I should have gotten a second opinion this morning before leaving the house… On the plus side, it’s been 8 hours, and I can still smell the spices! Hopefully nobody passed out in my wake!
I use 8’spraysnof Safran Troublant and it barely lasts 4 hours on me. Egads, now I’m thinking of layering this and Tea for Two!
HAMMERED by the blizzard, so after getting back from the gym I’m staying indoors, cocooned in Amour de Cacao. Can’t ever go wrong with that.
Ugh, at least you got to the gym I guess!
I FORCED myself to go, knowing I might not get there Wednesday. Luckily it’s such a short walk from my place (literally four minutes on foot) that I didn’t have any excuse.
Best wishes to you! We were expecting massive snow – 18 inches plus, but thank god. THANK GOD we only got about 8-10. I am still traumatized by last year and I can only handle shoveling when it’s less than 8 inches. I hope you don’t lose power and that all is OK. Stay warm!
I am emptying some bottles and I am wearing DK Cashmere Mist today. I want to finish 3 bottles that I have for a long time, a little left in the bottles, this one, l’Artisan Vanilia and Allure.
Will you be sorry to see the last of your Vanilia, though? Havana Vanille / Vanille Absolument can’t hold a candle to it, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t know of another vanilla scent quite like Vanilia.
Thank god I have a backup bottle, because it is my favorite vanilla. I have tried the others and they are not anything like it.
It is entirely unique, and I have a LOT of vanillas. Lucky you to have gotten a backup while you could!
Hello NST. I picked up a bottle of Bois d’Iris by The Different Company at 70% off today. Thanks to johanob for the tip-off about the sale!
Wow, nice deal!
Hehe!Awesome!Glad to enable.And NICE CHOICE,Uday!
I was thinking of wearing L’Artisan Havana Vanille before I pull the trigger on a back up bottle. I hate it when a perfume that I love gets discontinued and the price of it is horrible when I finally have some kind of money to get a back up. Hopefully, in the next few days, I will file my taxes, get my refund and get a bottle.
OMG tax refund! I totally forgot about mine!! Oops!!
My SOTD is Havana Vanille! I got my bottle from an on line discounter a year or two ago.
Tax refund time is normally when I spluge too – also as my “payment” for actually doing the taxes rather than paying someone else my frag money.
Soivohle Rosa Sur Reuse for me today. Can’t wait until transit is back up in my area– being stuck with no way to go anywhere makes me want to buy things off the internet, though I’ve resisted buying more than a few books for my kindle. Perfume samples are calling my name…..
Ooh, it can be hard to resist kindle books. Internet buying that you get right away!!!!!
Kindle books make sense to buy when you’re stuck at home but browsing around makes me want more tangible things but I’m trying to not buy more books and perfume at least until after things I’ve already ordered arrive
Kindle books are like crack.
Of course, samples are too. 🙂
I definitely have a sample problem and I’ll be adding to it when the huge sample lot (50+) I bought off ebay arrives.
50+ samples! How fun but oh my 😯
Yes, oh my, I just got 15 samples from the Freebie meet, and I have decided to whittle down and not have so many new ones at once. How do you keep them all straight? And what did you get that you like the best?
The samples just arrived today so I have no idea what I’ll like best. I have hundreds of samples in my possession– a bag of untried manufacturer’s samples, a bag of manufacturer’s samples I liked, and a couple of bags of samples from Luckyscent/STC/ Twisted Lily. These are essentially grouped by when I acquired them in different color organza bags, so this lot conveniently fits (just barely) into a large turquoise bag. I also keep handwritten testing notes for every scent that touches my skin (over 250 last year)
After my shower last night, I put on Amber and Santal lotion from L’Occitane. I did NOT want to get out of bed this morning, I was so comfortable it was ridiculous. Since I still can detect the Amber and Santal, I’m going to top it off with Theorema and layers of sweaters to extend the cozy 🙂
Nope, changed my mind at the last minute and put on Feminitie du Bois. Sandalwood and plum. Yum.
This sounds great!
SOTD is Oud Fleur (Tom Ford). Jumping on the Oud bandwagon ahead of Friday’s “Oud” day. 🙂
I am wearing Lorenzo Villoresi Teint de Neige. I am always careful not to put too much on because I get lots of sillage. And although I know that almond is not listed as a note, I am smelling it here. (Strangely, that note usually disappears on me rather quickly, but whatever I am smelling in this one stays.)
I have Donna by Lorenzo Villoresi and I bought it after trying it once and I wish I’d had time for a longer test – it turns out to be more floral/rose than I’d like. Looking at the LV line it seems there are others that would suit me much better.
I have some large decant of Donna. I find it to be tricky – summer only kind of fragrance. It is so floral and almost old fashioned. It takes the perfect kind of situation for me to want to wear it.
Sending warm wishes to all of you blizzarded-in! 🙂
I still have a cold but its moving to my chest, so im happy I can smell again! The bottle of Mito VdE on my dressing table has been staring at me for days, so its the first thing I went for. Galbanum & tuberose- perfect for 40°C. I still cringe that it cost $250(+, with exchange rate, and shipping. More like $300+), but it’s simply divine.
Good to hear you can smell again. Take care of your chest, though.
Us Southerners and our summer colds…Lol!Glad you’re better!
Scentless so far. We got a whole lot of diddly-squat as far as the epic historical storm goes. That’s perfectly fine by me though. Saves me the hassle of turning our street into Thunderdome dealing with parking (*sigh*, I’m so done with living in the city). Today was already declared an understood WFH so I’ve not even gotten dressed, although I was already working just before 8 this morning. The fiancé has a WFH too so the apartment smells of leftover bacon from our breakfast this morning 🙂
Undecided if I’ll wear any scent today.
The worst etiquette in the world, the lowest level of hell is reserved for people who steal a spot that you have spent hours digging out. Pox! I totally sympathize. I was a street parker for many years until we finally caved and got our own house. I totally understand.
HAHAHA YES! Entirely. Technically it’s illegal to put stuff in the street to claim a spot, but people do it anyway. I seriously cannot wait to have a consistent place to park. The two biggest requirements for our house is a garage and garbage disposal. Doesn’t seem like too high of expectation, but both are VITAL!
Oh! This just cracked me up! I can’t get it to paste in here but there is a Chicago parking Bingo board someone made to play when you see all the junk left out to save your space! Mayor Daley always sided with the folks who dug out the space, which always made me laugh!
I’m wearing Calamity J by Juliette Has a Gun. I was once told that this is the only perfume I should wear but like most of us – I just can’t stop trying new scents!
I like Calamity J and told myself I would buy a bottle once my decant is gone but, like most of us ;), I keep wearing and trying other scents – so I’m still on the first decant of CJ.
I wore Vol de Nuit perfume last night and still smell it a bit this morning so am undecided – do I re-apply and gas everyone at the gym, go unscented, or annoy my husband by spending half an hour looking for something tamer that won’t clash? I have until after breakfast to decide. I’m actually in the mood for Safari today but it is NOT gym safe so I’ll have to wait. Maybe a touch of No. 5, or could I get away with a tiny spray of Mitsouko? Occasionally I kind of wish I was a normal person with one inoffensive shampoo-floral-celebuscent.
I decided to wear In Love Again after reminding myself that having backup bottles is pointless if I never wear it. It smells more smooth and honeyed than I remember, weird nose day maybe? Anyway, I’m glad I haven’t ever fallen out of love with it.
This is a challenge. Decants to take to the gym would be useful.
Work out scents are definitely tricky.
That would make an interesting community project, sport scents – whatever this means, even if it’s the Vol de Nuit Extrait and Mitsouko combo considered here, lol!
SOTD is mitsouko. I sampled SL Tubereuse Criminelle for the first time and the sharp petrol opening was pleasant and made me crave Mitsouko.
I am wearing a sample of Black Flower Mexican Vanilla, which I got from a generous Freebie meet friend! This is by a new startup perfumery in Scottsdale Arizona called Dame Perfumery – it looks from their website that they are just getting off the ground. Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is an interesting vanilla, lighter than some of the “cozy” winter vanilla’s I’ve been sniffing like DSH’s Vanilla Bourbon Extreme (which I love by way, no dissing anything here!). It is more complex that Library of Flowers True Vanilla, carrying some distinct spices and flower scents with the vanilla. Not heavy sillage, but still present and pleasant 5 hours in. And they have small bottles for a nice price. I like the scent and I like supporting a new startup, so I will probably buy a small bottle of this. Totally not affiliated in any way, but it seems worth mentioning that on their website they have a deal – send them a postcard from your home town and they will send you a free sample of something. They have some other scents listed and announce another one in development, so probably worth a look, if vanilla is not your thing.
Good to know – thanks!
The perfumer has been around some of the big fashion houses, according to his history. Not quite clear how he ended up on Scottsdale.
Good morning!
SOTD for me is Philosykos edt.
Question: any recs for a fragrance that is, to quote my husband, “light, clean, fresh” but also interesting and not fabric softner-like?
Bulgari Thé Vert, maybe? Or Eau Sauvage? It’s a men’s scent but very much out of the ordinary, TREMENDOUSLY interesting and nothing like fabric softener, promise! You could both wear it!
Thanks! I’ve been thinking about The Vert having tried it at Sephora and really liked it. Eau Sauvage I like as well but knowing him it will be a little too masculine. The only scent he likes is Diorissimo, which I think is beautiful but I’m not a huge LOTV gal.
Well, Thé Vert would probably be worth a closer look, then, because it contains lily of the valley, also a principal note in Diorissimo. But it’s not dominant in the Bulgari: it’s just a grace note in a fresh, vivid composition. Best of both worlds.
The vert was love at first sniff for me and I don’t usually like “light, clean” perfume. Somehow it still manages to be a little spicy and totally has the Bvlgari je ne sais quoi.
Bulgari tea scents were my first thought too – Vert or Blanc, especially.
I would suggest SL Encens et Lavande, my favorite clean and interesting perfume
Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria perfumes seem very light and modern to me; my personal favorites are Lys Soleia and Pamplelune. Chamade also seems rather light and fresh. Other perfumes you both might like are the Atelier Colognes, and modern Balmain Ivoire.
Thanks for the ideas! I’ve tried some of the Aqua Allegoria but perhaps there’s a floral of this line that would be good.
Atelier are great. I love many of these, but they don’t have a floral scent that I know of. I stopped by their shop yesterday and I did try a new magnolia they’re putting out but I wasn’t crazy about it.
The Atelier line might be of interest to you. They have an excellent and reasonably priced sample selection
Yes, this is a great idea. Trefle Pur is a nice clover based scent.
What about Prada Infusion d’Iris?
Would also recommend the Guerlain and AG Vetivers.
You know, I hate to admit this b/c I adore Goutal, but I just tested the “new” cologne vetiver from AG, and was monumentally disappointed. It lasted for about 10 mintues before it completely disappeared. I recall testing the original vetiver a few years ago and liking it. ;-(
That new, lighter packaging had made me nervous about the line, but I haven’t had a chance to try any of them yet. What a shame, this was my favorite vetiver. I have enough for myself, but I guess I’ll have to stop recommending it. 🙁
ODIN Owari, Annick Goutal Neroli and Eau D’Hadrien, Jul et Mad Aqua Sextius, many of Penhaligon’s perfumes.
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt
SOTD Eau de Gloire.
Oh I love that one, especially the opening.
isn’t it lovely?
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
Perfect. It’s WFH day again today. No epic storm (thank goodness) but it is still snowing. I am enjoying looking out the window and occasionally seeing squirrels scampering about jumping from branch to branch. There was also a lone bird earlier today; it looked like a cardinal from the shape of the head but it was not red…more like mud-colored (eh, maybe my window is dirty).
Anyway, I’ve been listening and watching the news on and off and it sounded like all the newscasters were deflated that there was nothing more dramatic to report! I know there are places that are getting walloped (thinking of Poodle and mals’s daughter) but come on, just be thankful that it was not as bad as forecasted. Also, I heard someone being interivewed who said she was disappointed that the MTA shut down the NYC subway (somehow, she either couldn’t leave earlier or decided to test the system and ended up getting stranded). I hope no one uses this as if it was the boy who cried wolf scenario the next time we have another blizzard forecasted.
It’s kind of no-win, though, isn’t it? If they’re over-cautious, they’re criticized for inconveniencing countless people, but if they don’t take precautions that turned out in hindsight to be necessary, they’re criticized (or worse) for endangering lives.
Yep they were having a stormgasm on the news last night. We still are getting walloped here in Boston though.
How could I forget about you, my dear Sajini. And Farouche and one of the Anns! Stay warm!
Thank you Hajusuuri. It’s still super cold today, but all is well.
There is an interesting article on this with suggestions for better forecast communication:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2015/01/27/why-the-snow-forecast-for-new-york-city-was-so-bad-and-what-should-be-done/
Totally agree with your sensible viewpoints!
Thanks for the link, nozknoz! I very much prefer the abundance of caution but the article is right in that the uncertainty should have been front and center as well.
Could have been a female cardinal – they are brown!
Thanks for the info. Now I wonder what happened to its mate 🙁
Why are you wearing such an office-friendly and well-behaved perfume while working from home? 🙂
Thanks for thinking of me. I’m heading out for yet another round of shoveling. I think it’s finally easing up out there. I’m so happy this was the fluffy stuff and we aren’t dealing with trees coming down and no power.
Enjoying the ghosts of Pharrel Girl and Olympic Orchids Dev 1 in the same shirt I wore yesterday. They both have a similar human note that plays nicely together. Rehabbing a lot of vintage Barclay/BlueFish clothing I got off the Bay. Hand darning and dyeing should keep me occupied for a while!
Today I choose Silences de Jacomo.
I just received it yesterday- one of those unsniffed internet purchases made on a boring winter afternoon.
Quite happy with it! What’s not to love about a chypre?
That was a highly successful blind buy for me, too. Enjoy!
Love it!!
SOTD is Annick Goutal Songes, my greatest perfume surprise. I love the scent of real white flowers but dislike most white floral fragrance notes. I only tried it, at the beginning of a shopping trip, because I’m very fond of the AG scents (even if they’re not to my taste) and I liked its backstory. I was immediately astonished at its beauty, and having spent the remainder of my shopping trip with my nose glued to my hand, knew that I had to have this truly haunting scent. It’s one of the few fragrances I wear on a steamy summer night or a cold winter’s day, and though I don’t wear it often, it is one of my very favorites.
Robin, how about a ‘perfume surprise’ Friday community scent – a fragrance you expected to hate but loved?
Added to list!
Thanks, Robin, I have a scent I fully expected to love but hated a few years ago, so might try that one again if you do a perfume surprise challenge and see if my response has changed with time.
Songes is very beautiful! It is one of my fav major white flowers fragrance.
Songes for me, too, today. I put some on my wrists then went outside. It rained yesterday, so it was time to pull weeds in the garden. There’s something wonderful in the combination of Songes, damp earth, leather garden gloves, and freshly crushed dandelion leaves.
It’s still blizzarding outside and very cold. We are holed up with our laptops today. Too bad I didn’t go to the package store, I would love a Moscow Mule or a cognac! Not safe to walk outside and everything is closed anyway.
I think I’ll make some chai and put on Jacomo 8.
Stay warm! (no alcohol in the house for such occasions is only slightly more unacceptable than no perfume 😉 )
My SOTD is First by Van Cleef & Arpels. Also one of JCE’s earlier creations. I love it. I got my bottle in 2004 or so and it smells different to “current” First.
I love the name of your perfume Robin! It’s quite silly, but I rather enjoy silly perfume names.
Me too 🙂
Shalimar today! Hoping my 2 sprays isn’t too much. Shalimar is not shy. Love it, but still feeling out fragrance in my new small office environment. So i get nervous 🙂
But i do love shalimar. Had to cut myself off from buying more of eBay, since i currently have a lifetime supply of the edt.
I always wear 3 sprays of the EDP. I think you’ll be fine 🙂
Good to know – appreciate that! I am super sensitive since i am in new, much smaller office than ever before, and don’t want to lose my ability to wear scent to allergies/sensitivities of others due to close quarters. Definitely over thinking it!
Give Mugler’s new Oriental Express a try, it is very like Shalimar but definitely more office friendly.
Will have to do!
Wearing Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee (EDT) and loving it. Reminds me of summer and it’s a contender for a full bottle purchase. Is the EDP version (the blue bottle) merely a stronger formulation compared to EDT or an entirely different scent? Has anybody tried these two side by side?
Also tried Vent de Folie, which only confirmed to me that I just can’t stand scents heavy on rose. Sorry, Vent de Folie, we will never be a thing!
Otherwise, snowy here in Europe, but not as much as stateside.
The EdP is different, not drastically, but enough that it would be best to test both. To me, it’s more pillowy and sweeter, but that would depend on one’s sensitivity to some of the ingredients, too, I suspect. I like the freshness of the EdT, but it seemed more variable over time. Did not do extensive testing, though.
Stay warm Ula!
Both EdT and EdP versions used to be in a blue bottle. Transparent bottles are newer packaging. I don’t know if any of the perfumes got re-formulated when AG went away from beautiful colored bottles. I agree with nozknoz – test the version you want to buy first (or go with the one that you tested and liked).
Yes, not only the concentration but the packaging. It was noted above that AG Vetiver in the new packaging seems to lack endurance.
thanks for advice to both of you!
Zara, I found the Nuit Étoilée edp to be sweeter, smoother and less harsh/citric on me than the edt. They are quite different to my nose so if you can test both before buying that would be ideal.
I am wearing Roja Dove Unspoken parfum today. I wanted the edp but my mule made a mistake and bought the parfum – it’s good but like most parfums, not a lot of sillage.
Thanks, I won’t make the mistake of buying unsniffed, that’s for sure 🙂
For Keep It Simple Tuesday (dentist appointment edition) I wore, surprise, Ferre. Was tempted to wear Farnesia, but the whole reason why I don’t like its top notes is that they remind me of latex gloves…
I’m going through a bag of samples, so right now I’m wearing Kate Spade Twirl. It’s nice enough, but not particularly exciting. I doubt I’ll be reaching for it again any time soon!
Work was not cancelled, now that trains are up and running. But since school is out, I am home on childcare duty. I am only half out of my PJs, and my kid is still in PJs. I keep trying to get us to go out and play in snow but the lure of making play doh turned out to be too enticing–we have just finished playing with it.
Still scentless. Might put something on today, if I get dressed…
Sounds like a perfectly delightful day with your daughter 😉
My quick weekend trip to NY has been extended by several days. I’m working in a friend’s (cozy warm) apartment and wearing Tonka Imperiale.
You smell great and you have a good excuse to stay longer with friends 🙂
If you’re in the city I’d be happy to get together and go sniffing. I love meeting fellow NST folk. My yahoo address is my screen name
I’m in Un Bois Vanille, but unfortunately, and apologies if this is TMI, I’m crampy and I get really annoyed by scents when I have cramps. Also light, and noises. Basically, I just want to be under my covers with earplugs and a hot water bottle. : /
If it is light and noise as well then you might want to check with a doctor to see if you aren’t having migraine as well. Especially likely that time of the month. If so, there are things you can take to help. From one who’s been there and done that. Sending my sympathies.
Thank you. I think it’s just cramps, since I don’t get accompanying headaches. But they get profoundly bad. Some months I’m fine, and other months *POW*.
I just clicked through to your blogs – your stitching is beautiful and so is your location! My husband and I are originally from Washington, and your photos make me smile.
Thanks, I really enjoy designing the patterns and love this part of Washington state.
And as MikasMinions says, there are many types of migraines that do not involve a headache. I often get what are called abdominal migraines. Most people who get migraines are never diagnosed and suffer needless discomfort. It is a most misunderstood affliction.
I was going to suggest migraines too since I get them worse in conjunction with my period. Makes me a joy to be around I don’t think. You don’t actually have to have pain to be experiencing a migraine, according to my neurologist, and I’ve found its true for me. I notice a lot more since he brought it to my attention that sometimes I just get really weird auras, sensitivities, etc. but the pain never hits.
I’m researching silent migraines now, interesting! Though it sounds like the treatment is about the same as dysmenorrhea – take some advil and ride it out.
Thanks for the thought provoking comments and commiseration, y’all!
So interested in this discussion…I’ve been having silent migraines for years, although I only have them rarely. Very different from what you all have, but that’s the joy of silent migraines and why they’re so hard to diagnose.
I just sprayed on some Méchant Loup. I can hardly believe how much I like this one now. I didn’t think I’d ever fall for a gourmand fragrance like this. I’m so glad I didn’t swap my little bottle away.
Robin, when was the last time you did a scent the cast poll? I was thinking Arrested Development could be fun to do.
I have not done one in a long time…people really didn’t respond much to the last couple I did, including one in which you could scent the cast of any show you like.
Malle’s Dries Van Noten 🙂
Yum.
I’m wearing my mother’s Revlon Intimate today–I grabbed the bottle when we were clearing out her house. The top notes are gone but the remainder smells divine.
Stuck in one of the jackpot areas of this blizzard. I’m waiting to go out for round four of snow shoveling. You know it’s bad when your town tops the snow total list on the news. The wind is brutal. We’ve got a -4°F wind chill out there and between that and the blowing snow it’s not much fun. Even with the snowblower it’s a bit of a challenge when you’ve got feet of snow to deal with. We had over 30″ at 9am and its still snowing and drifting so I’m curious to know what the final totals will be.
No perfume yet today. I wouldn’t be able to smell it with all the layers of clothing and the wind. Once I’m done for the day and take a nice hot shower I’ll make up for my scentless day.
My best wishes for you Poodle! We normally get hammered here in the Poconos, and I was expecting 18 inches, and we only got about 10 total. And it was super puffy and not so bad to shovel, although today and yesterday my DH and I spent about 3+ hours digging out. I hope you are safe and don’t lose power. Good luck. Best wishes!
This storm was pretty amazing but thankfully no power loss. Looks like the coast took a beating. They said 10-11 houses have been condemned because of storm damage. Bad flooding in a lot of areas. I can’t really complain too much I guess because at least my house is still standing.
Oh Poodle, you have my sympathy! It’s the high winds and wetness of the snow that would be the worst, to me. I live in a lake effect snow region of the Great Lakes and while we can get a ton of snow, the texture is very light. That wet snow is a killer to shovel. Stay warm!
It’s fluffy but it hurts like hell when you keep getting a face full of it.
Sympathies! Stay safe and warm. I hope your post-shower, Scent of the evening is something luxurious and comforting. Or just gallons of hot cocoa. Whatever you need!
I’m thinking I might make a hot toddy. Either the temperature or the alcohol will warm me up.
Oh gosh, Poodle. I hope you dig out soon!
Take care of yourself and stay warm. I hope it’ll be over soon.
My legs may not thaw out until spring. Lol.
SOTD – Bottega Veneta eau Legere. And some other random testing. I’m so sad about my disappointment in the AG Vetiver cologne that I don’t even know what do with my perfumista disappointment. Rarely do I get so bummed out when something lets me down. So… onward to the next, right?
I can become downright huffy at talked perfume that has Let Me Down. It wasn’t a full bottle, was it? Perfume mistakes do not stay long in my place, even if I have to drop them off in a ladies’ washroom at work, or even a nearby park bench…
No, not FB, thankfully.
I wore Rosine Rose d’Homme today, one of my favorite roses. We actually have sunshine after what feels like endless weeks of dreary gray – my husband, who is a southerner, complains that we have permaclouds here in the Midwest and he’s right. But sun or no, it’s still January and very cold so I will put on Barbara Bui for the evening to feel warm and cozy.
Barbara Bui is terrific – such a shame it was discontinued. And lots of empathy for your Southerner husband; moving to the Midwest years ago came as a shock to me, too!
Barbara Bui is so cozy! it’s like a snuggly cashmere shawl, ideal for this time of year
Frederic Malle Lys Mediteraneé(sp?).Nice Lily.Needed something light and fresh on a hot summer’s day.Glad to see everyone saying Hi despite the snow and horrible weather!Stay Warm!
Today I’m wearing Clair de Musc on my hair, because it’s summer and Deneuve prescribed it (any musc, not necessarily the Lutens). Lovely. The woman knows it all.
Tried Guerlain l’Homme Ideal again. I so wish I could smell that Amaretto note, but all I get is Farenheit boring offspring.
Stay warm!
I’m wearing Anais Anais today. Just decided I wanted something pretty and springy this morning.
Ormande Jayne Woman has kept me happy all day.
SotD: Thierry Mugler Alien
Due to the snow, I was able to work from home today. So, I took advantage, and wore my loudest perfume! Alien kept me happy, and helped prevent cabin fever.
Profumum acqua viva. I love the first five minutes where it smells like sherbet lemons!
