Yes, it's Monday again. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, from the original limited edition version before it joined the Cologne Intense collection.
Reminder: this Friday, 1/30, will be Oud Friday! Wear an oud fragrance.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
EL Cinnabar (indeterminate vintage but not particularly new). Something spicy to combat the cold weather.
Darned cold here too.
One of my first perfume loves!
I used to think Cinnabar was a distant second to Opium (I mean, back in the eighties, before the reformulation bug hit and they were no longer recognizable) but Cinnabar is just a lot more wearable, I think. I’m not sorry to have run out of Opium years ago but I’m really glad I still have a couple of millilitres of Cinnabar extrait.
Today is Australia Day public holiday, and whilst most of the country was out all day in the nasty heat drinking and at bbq’s and fireworks, I stayed home with a bad cold. Getting sick always waits until im on holidays! Lol.
So no scent for me for the 3rd day and Im missing it!!
Looking forward to ouding it this week though! 🙂
Feel better
I hope you feel better soon!
Take plenty of rest and fluids and get well soon!
Sending get well wishes your way.
So sorry, get better!
Boo, being sick on the hols sucks. Hope you feel better soon.
Get better soon. Summer colds are awful!
Hope you feel better soon.
It’s snowing on and off today and NYC
I meant to grab Dia to cuddle up with today but instead sprayed Ubar. Oh well
So far, we do not have serious accumulation. Keeping my fingers crossed…the weather map shows us right on the border, could get 5 inches or could get a couple feet.
Ugh, in the same boat. I’m really hoping it’ll only be 5 inches.
Choosing between Dia and Ubar is like choosing between two desserts you like.
I own Dia, but if I had it to do over again, it would be Ubar by a nose. I think it was a happy accident you had.
It’s another grey and rainy day so I’m wearing my beloved Vamp à New York. Perfect antidote to a bad weather day.
That’s a delightful perfume for bad weather.
SOTD is AG Amber Fetiche. Not sweet at all on me, which is exactly what I needed today.
Tried this last week and it immediately joined my to buy list. Fabulous stuff
Do you know if the Orientalistes are continuing in new packaging? I havent seen any sign of AF for a looong time- and i really want a bottle too!!
Haven’t tried that one yet, but non sweet sounds like it would be right up my alley
Miss Dior Le Parfum (2012). Haven’t worn it in a long time. I am enjoying it so far and I think I will be wearing it more this winter.
Honestly, Miss Dior has so much renewals/repromotes/flankers I have completely lost track. I seem to need to google whenever I see one. (Well, except for Miss Dior Original. Need it in EdP please. 🙂 )
Hahaha, I feel the same way. I have that one too and like it a lot 🙂
VCA Bois d’Iris. The end of another iris sample. I like this a lot, different than Scent of Hope, which I love, but very soothing to me. Now have to decide if I want a FB of this…
I spent full price on this – my most expensive perfume purchase by far – and I don’t regret it. But that’s me.
Yes,if I buy a bottle of this it will be the most I’ve spent on a bottle.
SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
I’m in the path of the forecasted epic storm. I decided to work from home rather than risk the nightmare commute home. I’m also preparing for a power outage just in case with flashlights in strategic places and food that can be eaten cold left closest to the refrigerator door so I only have to have it open a crack and grab them quickly. I’m also hoping to be able to do tomorrow’s work today in case I couldn’t log in tomorrow.
Usually I’d love a chance to go home early, but today I was going to go to the gym for the first time and do all sorts of good things out and about.
I hope you don’t lose power!!
SOTD Guerlain Bois d’Armenie….also getting ready for the epic snow. We’re either going to get 8 inches or 18!! So…. I’m getting my legs and hands ready for the big shovel. Puffs of BdA coming out of my coat will help me persevere!
Bon courage, that sounds like some serious shovelling! I like to wear Amouage Gold for arduous tasks.
I’m wearing Gold today (lightly). I suppose getting up and going to work on this cold Monday morning seemed arduous enough, especially since we’re expecting the rain to turn to freezing rain/snow this afternoon.
Ah, Gold! I have Gold for Men. That would be something to luxuriate in *after* I’ve accomplished my task (takes a few hours), took a very hot shower, and just snuggled in for the evening. Good choice!!!
Coromandel for the cold.
Stay warm!
That is perfect for the cold.
Nice!
I am wearing vintage Jean D’albret Ecusson which I was lucky enough to score at an antique shop this past weekend. A full 3.4 ounce bottle, in the original box, untouched. It’s turned in the best way ever and smells fantastic.
Oh, lovely! Lucky find.
I haven’t even heard of it, but it sounds amazing – congratulations!!
OOOOOOOOOH. Vintage score.
Nice find!
Natori, after a weekend spent in my sandalwoods – Nirvana Black and Tam Dao. Everyone seems to love this, as (obviously) do I.
I ordered a decant of Santal Carmin from a lovely woman on a Facebook perfume group and I’m excited to get it. Hajusuuri got me hooked!
Natori is so elegant! It always makes me think of Chanel.
I had to look up this perfume because you wear it so much. The notes sound really nice.
Haha – I know; it’s gotten a little ridiculous with this one this winter. I think it can qualify as a cheap thrill – twenty bucks for a bottle in some places. In the cold months, I keep reaching for the scents with a certain amount of plumminess (this and Feminite du Bois) and or the aforementioned sandalwoods, but I’m starting to have a bit of a Cuir de Lancome thing too. That was SUCH a good blind buy, as everyone said it would be.
Have you ever had one you couldn’t stop reaching for?
I’ve only made one blind buy so far, Samsara, and I do really like it. I tend to reach for it when I need something and don’t have time to think much about it. 🙂
Keep-It-Simple Monday, SOTD: Trish McEvoy No. 9 Blackberry and Vanilla Musk. Sending stay safe wishes to everyone in the path of today’s snowstorm.
Laila, how do you like it? I have a 15 mL atomizer still sealed in a cute bag with a black ribbon handle. I bought it perhaps 3 years ago.
Sweet, fresh blackberries (my favorite berry to eat and as a fragrance note), soft vanilla and a light touch of musk (I’m not a big musk fan), it’s my favorite blackberry scent. Simple and sweet, but not cloyingly so, you can smell the quality in this and it lasts all day on me. i’ve had my bottle for a long time but I only wear it in winter when I find it comforting yet playful. Yours sounds delightful!
I love this scent! I often get compliments on it when I wear it – more men than women.
A man magnet — hmm maybe we need a man/woman magnet Friday or a most complimented perfume Friday!
Yes, Man Magnet Monday, lol! Just in time for Valentine’s season. I enjoyed a yummy vanilla perfume oil from a local bath shop. It got me compliments everywhere, from man, woman, and child! Of course that particular scent is discontinued 🙁
Back to the Vanilla and Blackberry Musk, I’ve heard from many that it does smell attractive to men, and that it is close to Philosophy’s Falling In Love. 🙂
Good luck to all of you who are getting ready for the snow!
I’m wearing Byredo 1996, which is nice on a cold morning. I see they now have a candle in this scent too.
Testing my recently acquired mini of vintage Patou Vacances. It is heavier than I thought it would be but quite interesting
Y’all should come to Texas. I’m in AG Duel today and quite enjoying smelling like expensive linen spray (don’t know why I always think of pretentious gift shoppe circa 2001 when I wear it, but I do).
I’m not being smug about the weather, really I’m not, but it’s suoopsed to be in the mid-seventies all week here and I have a ton of inside bookkeeping type work that must be done today. The cat is driving me insane wanting me to take him out in the yard so maybe I’ll rake leaves or mow later, that would be enough of a chore that I wouldn’t feel terribly guilty.
*supposed. Why does autocorrect only correct properly spelled words?
Do you walk Your cat or do you let him loose while you’re outside? When I had cats, they roamed where they pleased.
I let him wander. When he was a kitten I leashed him but he’s old enough that he tends to stick fairly close to home these days and the new yard is still pretty scary. Both neighbors have been made aware that he will be visiting and are cool with it and there’s nobody behind us. Right now he’s anxious to investigate the rabbit warren under the shed.
You’ll make me think of spring! Duel is perfect for such mild weather. In the middle of summer, when you are suffering from the heat, it will all balance itself out. Cheers!
We’re getting our floors and kitchen renovated, so we spent all day yesterday cleaning and then had to pack up our kitties and take them to my parents’ house. Aside from going a whole week without the cats (which is making me sad), we’re also going to spend the week moving boxes from room to room and eating takeout.
So I think this week is probably going to be all comforting, sweet scents. I’m wearing Eau des Missions at the moment, which feels pretty perfect for today.
Good luck with your renovations! Hope it goes quickly.
Thanks!
We have lived without our kitchen since January 2d. Still not put back together. Refrig in living room; stove in hallway; no running water in there. New cabinets came in last week; granite is “supposed to be” installed this Friday, but who knows. Boxes and boxes of kitchen stuff stacked everywhere.
I’m in Love in White today . . . . because I could reach it. 🙂
Note to self: make sure my perfume is easy to reach…which I should have thought of before I stashed all the food someplace weird!
Eleebelle and Joanne- I hope your kitchens are fabulous when they’re done and so worth the hassle! I find disruptions like that rather stressful, so hopefully its all over soon- good luck! 🙂
Thank you, Perthgirl. Everyone warned me, and I thought I’d gotten myself talked into not caring that we were going to essentially be camping, but I’m finding it very wearing at this point. “Cooking” outside on the grill and washing dishes in the laundry tub are not romantic activities. Then there is the fear that the choices I made won’t look good once installed.
Looks like SW Va is just outside the storm’s path, so we won’t be getting any of the wet cold stuff. I’ve got Tabac Aurea on today, writing at home. Mmmmmmmmm.
Yup, I’m just a bit north of you and we got a good dusting but all seems clear now. Which is fine by me, since I’m in the office now, but once I get home to the fire I wouldn’t mind a few inches.
Serge Lutens Fourreau Noir. I am using up a sample. It is fine, good even, but not going in the fb or decant list.
Whereas I bought it within ten minutes of smelling it for the first time. I adore it: definitely top-5 Serge. So you smell good today, even if it’s not a must-own for you.
Watching the snow outside, and getting ready to pack up for the day at work. Half day in, half WFH and most likely WFH tomorrow. Wearing Coco today. Looking forward to being at home to work so I can snuggle up in blankets with tea at my desk.
I’m in Texas too, so its going to be sunny and in the 60s and 70s for highs most of the week. I grabbed one of the samples that I ended up with over the holidays – Bvlgari Omnia Coral. Fruity floral that is already gone. I’m trying to go through my samples, so maybe I’ll hit Caron or Annick Goutal tomorrow.
SOTD is Untitled (Maison Martin Margiela). Needed a shot of springy-woody-green today.
I need to get a decant of that. I remember liking the sample and using it up and then kind of forgetting about it. Thanks for the reminder.
That is a great go-to scent for me.
Hope every one in the path of the storm is prepared for it (and that maybe, just by chance, it won’t be quite as intense as they’re predicting). I’m in the Midwest, so I know what something like that can be like. I’m in AG Eau de Charlotte today. I have this one in rotation all year long.
Wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris absolue. I had to put it away for a month or so. Last fall I wore it so often that I could no longer smell it 🙁 First time that’s ever happened!
SOTD PG L’eau Rare Matale. Nice comfort for a winter Monday.
It was my first purchase at the Perfume Shoppe – like a cashmere sweater, that one.
it is truly delightful
Shalimar Parfum Initial. I haven’t worn it in sometime. Its quite nice : )
I love Shalimar PI! Which reminds me, I need to get a backup soon 🙂
Ditto!
SOTD is Chanel Beige and I am only liking it so-so. There is something about Chanel base that just doesn’t sit well on my skin. It has a slight cat pee smell after about an hour. I may be scrubbing this off and trying again with another.
I am already in a positive dither about this Friday’s Oud day! I adore oud, I have lots of oud scents, what oh what do I pick?
I recently wore Joy and got a slight cat pee smell right off the bat. Luckily it dissipated quickly.
Ooh how nice to see another oud-lover! It would seem from comments on postings of ouds that the community in general is rather ‘boo! Hiss!’ toward then, so I feel a bit protective toward them. I think oud is simply delicious! 🙂
Here at Keep It Simple Monday I have on Private Collection Jasmine White Moss — it became my Cristalle replacement when reformulation happened to the latter. I just heard at Holts that JWM is being discontinued, as I bought their last bottle…
Oh, sad to hear about the JWM. I lve that one, too, but only wear it in late spring, so my bottle will last awhile.
My SOTD is Ding Ding 5 by Opus Oils. On me, it’s orange and sweet, peppery, but mellow sandalwood. The sandalwood reminds me of a wearable (for me, anyway) version of the sandalwood in Nirvana Black. I really wanted to like Nirvana Black, but after a few fleeting seconds of weak violet, it was all acrid sandalwood … like acrid armpits 🙁
I had exactly the same impression of Nirvana Blech.
I didn’t love it either and don’t get what the fuss is. Nirvana Blech, awesome.
Today I tried Acqua Allegoria Limón Verde. It’s so bad it hurts, but I have to say it does smell a bit like caipirinhas. Cheap cachaça caipirinhas, but still. Anyway, I sprayed O de Lancome on the other wrist for the sake of comparison, and its superiority to the Guerlain was so obvious, specially in the dry down, that I felt a bit sad.
OMG I love that!”So bad it hurts”…..LOLLLLL!!
Did you read about post traumatic scent disorder during the weekend?
I think I’ve tried Limon Verder once and found it rather sharp and thin. My favourite Aqua Allegoria is still the wonderful Pamplelune.
Sharp and thin, that’s it. With a note evoking the kind of caipirinha you get at over crowded beaches. Ugh. I so wanted to love Pamplelune, but it makes me feel like I haven’t showered in a week.
Mmm wish there were caipirinha’s on our beaches! Even bad ones! 😉
I’m in Chamade, which is working well but I didn’t apply nearly enough!
Glad you’re liking it! 🙂
That’s safe to say, for sure! 🙂
Stay safe Stay warm USA!It’s full on summer down here…NOT complaining!SOTD:Musc Ravageur.Well well well…lol. What an interesting experience. I’ve had all sorts of reactions today;from people being slightly put off it,to full on invasion of my private space…LOL.
I’ve been wanting to try MR for ages, since it has been compared to Shalimar.
Chanel Allure edp for a snowy, romantic day in NYC! The city is so quiet and beautiful right now.
Sounds wonderful.Would love to experience New York in the snow one day!
Snow days can be difficult, but they are certainly very beautiful in the city, especially when it’s fresh! After a couple day, not so much 😛
I am wearing Fendi from a sample gifted me from the freebie meet – thank you, Silvrolive! It’s wonderfully noxious – so crazy strong it is nearly eye watering! But still so fantastic! I wish I still had my 1990’s era bottle of this!
I just need to get this off my chest as well:Dear Perfumers/Brands:SLOW DOWN WITH THE NEW RELEASES ALREADY!I mean really!!It’s the 26th of January, and I think I’ve read about a 100 announcements already!CANNOT.KEEP.UP.Just saying.Feeling better.Happy Monday.
Johanob, you need more espresso – come on, get with it! 😉
Thanks for the “backup” M!Lol!!
Well, its just that when I was younger, back in the good old days, people didn’t complain so much about new releases.
Um…could it be there weren’t so many? hmm.
Lol…yeah, back when Le Male was Niche in South Africa?LOL.
You mean it’s not anymore 😮
Courts are still open! Argh. Hoping we’ll get out of here before the standard 4:30pm. Very cold out especially with the wind, and snowing much heavier now.
I did manage, however, to make my way to Elizabeth St and sample the new Atelier scent and was given a couple of samples to take with me.
I also bought a new fig scent they have (there are 4 new scents coming out). It’s a 7.5ml spray, just the size I like ’em!
I also popped over to Diptyque and tried their new Plumeria scent.. meh.
Overall a successful and satisfying lunch break 🙂
SOTD: 31 Rue Cambon
Wow, wish I had such great places to visit on my lunch break!
Oh,you’re on jury duty, right?Have only ever seen that on Law and Order.Lol.At least you smell great!
Not as much drama as L&O but it gets intense at times!
What did you think of the Atelier (grapefruit, right)?
I find it to be sweet and a very realistic grapefruit. I didn’t try on skin yet, but on blotter it made my mouth water. Grapefruit is not a note I typically like but this one might win me over.
Trying this again tonight on skin and its straight pink grapefruit on me. Very little tartness. Still mouthwatering!
Ambers again :), perfect for the snow we’re also getting on this side of the Atlantic. Ambra nobile today, nice, but think i prefer Alahine.
Day two of 10 Corso Como. Ahhhhh.
You smell fabulous! I tried that for the first time this weekend. Great! but sadly only lasted a few hours….
I’m wearing Jacomo Silences today. Perfect for this downright springy weather we’re having (in Texas). Thoughts to all of you in the path of the nastiness.
I’m wearing Calyx today – it’s a grey day here and I needed something that smelled sunny to cheer me up!
Getting ready for the blizzard, bought a jar of peanut butter, sent in the rent and donation checks, paid the bills and did all the invoices plus weekly schedule email today. Laundry ready to do today in case of power outage. SOTD is cozy cozy LDDM.
Yesterday I gave a care package of man perfume samples to my brother in law. He was all over the decant of Reverie au Jardin and immediately put some on. He smelled great in it!
Hi Sajini,
I hope you get through the blizzard okay. It sounds like you’re well prepared for it. Let me know when the samples I’m sending finish the first leg of the journey (I’m assuming you’re having them sent on).
Thanks again for sending the samples. I’m planning to visit my mom so will pick them up then. Please email me with frag preferences and I will put together some man frags for you too!
Wow. Thanks for the offer. I’ll think about it. Maybe just the tiniest bit of that Reverie au Jardin?
Myrrhe Imperiale. A sample. I just love it! My skin seems to draw the vanilla note out of everything and I don’t care for vanilla all that much. It is in there, but plays second fiddle to all the dark good stuff. I will have to get a paper route to afford this one.
It’s beautiful isnt it! Im glad I bought Amber Oriental, which they discontinued to replace with MI, but now I wouldnt mind the Myrrhe as well. I found I really like myrrhe in perfume..
It has such depth! The incense reminds me of a mesquite fire on a cold desert might. I really get lost in it.
It’s unseasonably warm here in Portland (and no snow to ski on) so I am trying to conjure some winter with Slumberhouse Norne, a pine and fir forest in a bottle. I heard that the formulation was tweaked a bit (it doesn’t stain your clothes or cause your wrists to stick to keyboards anymore) but my bottle is older and so I am happily picking lint and dog hair off my wrists in exchange for the extraordinary smell.
The sacrifices we make for perfume! 😉
Now now, no complaining about early spring here in Portland … even if it does probably mean we’ll relapse into serious winter in the middle of March. 😉 It was so beautiful yesterday that I spent two hours outside in the yard, cutting the dead poufs off the hydrangeas, clearing mushy-stringy old leaves from the lilies, and finding new growth on just about everything. SOTD is Cuir Mauresque, a new favorite.
SotD: Estee Lauder Sensuous…. which is so comforting.
It is snowing here in New York, and it is elected to become a blizzard. Thankfully, I was able to leave work early.
Yup, when all the Starbucks are closed in New York City, things are pretty serious 🙂
I went with L’Artisan Fou d’Absinthe today. I really like it. It’s a fougère but its machismo is on the low setting. I wish I knew what absinthe smells like so that I could compare. Is it still banned?
It’s legal to sell it in the U.S.
Thanks. I just did some reading on wikipedia and this current regulation caught my eye: the packaging cannot project images of hallucinogenic, psychotropic, or mind altering effects.
haha! why do I think someone at the Canadian food inspection agency came up with that?
That’s actually from the FDA. It seems that in the USA absinthe must be thujone-free so maybe this is a regulation against false advertising ;)(thujone is the compound held responsible for absinthe’s alleged psychedelic effect).
It’s available but no longer contains any of the interesting stuff, as you found out 🙂 im not sure it contains wormwood in any way now. I suspect it probably used to be bitterer than it is now, hence pouring it over a sugar cube.
I am wearing Aedes des Venusta Iris Nazarena today.
Snow and more snow today, again. I’m tired of shovelling snow of my car daily, and as usual they will probably bring out the heavy machinery to remove the snow during the night. At about 2 am right outside my window…
Warming up with SOTD Mohur Extrait.
Today I reached for l’AP Timbuktu for the first time in a long time. It was the right choice for this rather grey day with rain replacing snow.
Found my Ormande Jayne samples (yay!) so went with Tolu today.
Oh, good choice! I love Tolu — I really need to find my sample. (It’s not in the box: where can it be?)
Yes, Tolu’s a beauty; hope your sample turns up soon!
Tonight, I absolutely overapplied Nicolai’s Amber Oud. I’m at home for the night, so no big deal…I love it, but my cat won’t get within 3 feet of me 🙂 I should admit that my eyes are stinging a little but things should calm down soon
This has become one of my..say…top 10 and has completely changed my mind about lavender. Gorgeous!
It’s really gorgeous, I love it too! Although, I dab it on and have not sprayed as I find it to be very strong. Such a comforting scent.
A sample of cologne du Maghreb. I like it but it’s fleeting!
