Serge Lutens La Religieuse ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 23 January 2015 25 Comments

Serge Lutens La Religieuse

French niche house Serge Lutens will launch La Religieuse later this month. The new fragrance is expected to go into general distribution in March.

La Religieuse centers on jasmine (see also: A La Nuit and Sarrasins) and was developed by perfumer Christopher Sheldrake. The notes reportedly include incense, musk and civet.

Serge Lutens La Religieuse will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

This sounds like it could be amazing. Too bad SL isn’t sold anywhere near me.

It could be. I’ve wanted a jasmine incense for eons, so am hoping this is fabulous.

As soon as I read the notes I figured it was something you’d jump on Robin

Sarrasins wasn’t for me, the dry down was just funky fecal on me..La Nuit is great..but not huge on incense. But will definitely sniff. I just hope it doesn’t go all funky like Sarrasins.

Do you think Lutens is referencing the Diderot novel? That seems like his sort of thing.

Or the pastry? Although hard to mesh that with the notes.

Is everybody ok with that name? I like the notes and own several of his fragrances, but I am afraid I won’t be even interested in sampling something with that name :(

I had this exact feeling with l’Orpheline. Please ,Uncle Serge, you don’t have to give up on the harem fantasies!

I don’t consider myself religious at all personally, but I think that fragrances that connote or are derived from religious themes perhaps have an inherent deviant side – maybe it is trying to conjure themes of guilt, sexuality, sin, betrayal, etc.

I also could be reading WAY too much into it. We all know Uncle Serge likes his frivolous ad copy.

And from Fragrantica… “The new fragrance of the Serge Lutens collection named LA RELIGIEUSE will be available at Palais Royal on January 30, 2015. The theme of the new edition is deep, philosophical and religious, and its composition was constructed as a fight of good and evil, a contrast of black and white….”

Oooh, jasmine and incense! A la Nuit and Sarrasins are two of my favorite jasmines … I have high hopes for this one.

You can tell by the bottle’s black label that it’s going to cost slightly more than the bottles with the usual beige-coloured labels

I like the name,Loving the notes! So far the only real meh(!!) fragrance from Lutens was Fleurs de Citronnier.Love almost all the others, including recent L’Orpheline.I like the connotation to religion the name uses, seeing most religious ceremonies are fragrant affairs(flowers at weddings, the burning of incense…)

    JASMINE INCENSE AHHHHHHHH!

so happy. Thank you, Uncle Sergey!

(Now I have an excuse to get a decant of L’orpheline as well — I mean while I’m at it and all….ahem…..)

And curiously, since we’ve been talking a bunch about incense this week – what would the NST community consider the most incense-y of Uncle Serge’s fragrances, export or non? I want to make sure I’m not missing any must-have-sniffers!

I might be CRUCIFIED for saying this, but the most incense-ey Lutens for me,are 2 of the L’Eaux:Laine de Vierre, and L’Eau Froide.Esp Laine de Vierre.Such an interesting take on incense, and I think a fantastically strange perfume.I first found the grainy, woolly notes kinda unsettling, but it turned out to be FB-worthy!

Lol,I’m retracting part of my statement.Uncle Serge can sometimes be very confusing!I went back to sniff some Lutens in my collection:The actual 2 I was thinking of was yes1.)L’Eau Froide, but the other one is actually La Vierge de Fer(The Iron Maiden),from the Paris exclusives line! For me the best 2 in the incense stakes.Laine de Verre is a whole other subject!

This could be good, but the musk/civet thing is scaring me a little. His Serge Noire had a cumin overdose that made it an instant scrubber for me. I do love jasmine and incense though, so will definitely seek out a sample.
