Monday again! If you've dragged yourself out of bed already, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today?
I'm wearing the discontinued citrus chypre Caron Alpona. My sample is past its prime, but it still smells pretty darned good.
Reminder: this Friday, 1/23, will be Layered Friday: layer two or more fragrances, or layer fragrance(s) with a scented body product.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Nobody up but me? I have to work today, and wanted something refreshing and soothing, so Escale a Portofino is my SOTD. Happy Monday, everyone!
School is off, but my husband is at work too.
I thought they’d do more of the Escale series…
I really loved that one! It was so pretty!
Blind bought Escale a Potofino for a ridiculously cheap price. At first wearing it was a “meh,” but by the third wearing it was a love. I too find it refreshing, relaxing and, as tejas says, pretty.
It’s so darn hot here, it seems there are two suns shining in the sky.
Wearing Divine Bergamote and loving every bit. Another one I’d ger liters of if I ever won the lottery!
Please send me one of the suns!
Trying to, but it’s kinda heavy.
Hahahaha. Ok. In that case we’ll forgive you for keeping it all for yourself 😉
La Via del Profumo Sharif, as a cocoon for a foggy Monday.
Yuck. We had dismal weather here yesterday but no fog today, luckily.
I made a special note of going out to go try something from the Bvlgari le gemme collection. I decided to try Noorah. It’s nice, although I don’t love it. However I was tempted to buy one of the perfumes from this collection just because of the wonderful bottles, but common sense got the best of me.
Good for you! I have not even looked for them yet.
Thanks Robin. I wonder if they’ve reached the US yet, I don’t live there so not sure.
SOTD = Eau No Scent
In my haste, I forgot to wear anything. I am running errands with mom so perhaps it’s for the best. I will wear something later and report in.
Haaaaaaa. That sounds like the makings of a Prix Eau Faux entry!
We are scent tweens! (see my response down-down-down below) 🙂
I ended up rectifying the situation though with Cuir Cannage 🙂
Even though my first crocuses are in bloom it feels very gloomy outside. I’m wearing one of my older friends, Heure Exquise, and can also smell some remains of Mon Parfum Chéri from yesterday on my cardigan. They blend quite well together.
Also meant to mention that the Caron goose down puff is the ultimate in luxury. I held one on the palm of my hand and it weighs like just the meerest hint of air. I almost switched my make-up routine to have an excuse to buy one of them.
Eek, this was not meant as a reply to austenfan but hello to you!
I was wondering whether I had written about Caron down puffs in my subconscious, but hello to you as well 😉
Love Goutal.
I think Songes would do well where you live, it might be a bit powerful on “2sundays” but white florals go so well with hot weather.
I can tell you that I drained my decant of Songes in no time!
I put on some Heure Exquise on Saturday to ward off the winter blues during the evening when I was just lounging around (after my daughter went to bed). It was just so lovely. And then I could still smell a bit of it on my shawl the next day. I can’t wait for spring! There is no house that combines the art of perfumery with evocative reflections of nature like Goutal!
I will get out my bag of AG samples. I want to smell nature, not dry central heating.
😉 Go for it!
It’s such a quiet scent, and contemplative. I remember first smelling it, swoon at first sniff.
Ah, Heure Exquise. So wonderful.
(I am still not sure why I love No. 19 better… but I do.)
No 19 gets right to the point and stays focused! I wear No 19 much more than HE too, even though HE was my gateway green, etc. It has more of a mood to it, and sets me off on dreamy passages.
I have never tried Heure Exquise, but No. 19 is a true love. I find it so fierce, yet utterly beautiful.
SOTD is Bois Naufrage. I’m tired of my winter perfumes lately. Uh oh–it’s only mid January. Long way to go yet. I wore Bois Naufrage all last spring, a salty fig that smells like the great outdoors! That’s what I needed today.
Hmmm…I have a vial of this somewhere. I remember not liking it, but now you’ve made me want to try it again!!
No problem–I will easily find it amongst the dozens of samples that reside here and there. NOT!!
Ha ha. Well, if you find it… I went through many samples before I decided to buy a bottle of this. It smells slightly different every time I wear it. It was not love at first sniff.
Fig fruit or fig leaves, Suzy Q?
I’d say fruit. The neroli gives it a soapy note that is also sweet.
Happy Monday! SOTD is vintage White Shoulders parfum. I found this sad little botttle at a thrift store a while back and forgot about it. This must be at least 50 years old and still has a lovely tuberose note..
Vintage White Shoulders is such a lovely perfume and hardly ever mentioned. You smell great.
Thanks!
It used to be gorgeous. You smell wonderful, I”m sure.
You do smell great! This brings back such happy childhood memories for me!
Thanks you guys! It is a very happy scent.
I’m in Iris. I don’t wear it enough and I’m trying to give my older, full bottles some love. It really is nice this time of year, when it’s cool and dry.
Hermes Hiris, rather – forgot an important letter there…
One of my favorites for summer! I have never tried it in cooler weather and may give it a whirl tomorrow 🙂
I love Hiris in any weather. It is truly my go-to scent.
Vintage Mitsouko extrait. I got a small decant a few years ago, I’m down to the last couple of drops, and it’s official: I like the jangly, ferocious EDT more than the rich plush parfum. But at least now I know!
I like the edt better too! My bottle is at least 20 years old and it smells much more complex than my bottle of parfum which is maybe 2 years old. You smell great!
The parfum is lovely though.
The recent iterations of parfum are DEFINITELY dumbed down: I smelled one four years ago at the Guerlain boutique in Toronto and was massively disappointed (and for all I know it’s even less interesting now, since there’s no reason to assume that Guerlain is not forever revising and reformulating).
My EDT is at least 10 years old, maybe older, still ancient enough to have plenty of oakmoss, and it is thrilling. The vintage parfum is beautiful, yes, but not exciting.
Interesting. When I wear my edt I can still smell it after a shower!
Ambre Sultan! Wanted to wear this since last night actually 😛
You smell great!
It’s the third time I come across this perfume: first I mentioned it myself in a reply to one of the comments on my blog (it was in a context of straight-forward amber scent); then I got it in the newsletter from Serge Lutens (they chose to showcase this exact perfume in the e-mail) and now here. I should probably consider wearing it today too 🙂
Rough Monday at work.
Wearing Cuir de Russie. I seem to be wearing this a lot lately. It’s become a bit of a comfort scent for me.
Cuir de Russie is always a good choice. I hope your day gets better.
You smell amazing today 😉
You smell fantastic! I might wear that on Wednesday (my next day off).
I hope CdR helped you to get through the day.
Hiram Green Moon Bloom. Gray and overcast but should lighten up later and I wanted something big and persistent. For a natural perfume, Moon Bloom has remarkable longevity on me.
I normally have very good longevity from tuberose, but Moon Bloom did a flit after two hours. I don’t know why.
I was dabbing, but I dabbed generously, until I had an area the size of a quarter soaking wet on my wrist.
I sprayed my collarbones and each side of my neck. Maybe spraying makes a difference?
Moon Bloom is a new love for me!
Happy Martin Luther King Jr holiday to all today. Since I am off today, I have set several doctor’s appointments. My SOTD is English Pear and Dressing by JM.
Mmmmm, dressing. I would nibble my arm off if I was wearing that not, lol.
Darn autocorrect. ; )
Lol! It’s supposed to be frescia!
My auto correct is working over time today!
I’ve not got to it yet today and don’t know what I want yet. It’s a slow morning at home with my girl b/c of the holiday. PBS cartoons and laundry. I do still smell a bit like my SOT evening – Ta’if, which I put on last night just because. Ah, Ta’if.
Love Ta’if. You smell marvelous dear.
Thank you very much! Now I’m wearing FM Noir Epices. Ahhh….. I was waiting for the perfect day to dip into my LD that I horde. It’s so complex! It’s like sitting next to a warm fire.
I love Ta’if too – both freshly applied and on the morning after.
A couple feet of snow on the ground and more to come, sauna is warming though and after a shower I feel like it just has to be Russian Tea this morning.
Enjoy your sauna! That sounds like a slice of heaven.
CdG Kyoto because I just ordered a bunch of tiny decants (didn’t I just pledge to stop doing decants for evaporation reasons?) and realized I hadn’t drained all of my samples. I really like Kyoto and should probably just buy a bottle but then I start thinking that I love Avignon too and could really do with Zagorsk…and I buy more samples so I can pick my favorite. I really wish they would do a travel set of these or a set of minis. I’m not going to sucker for the full sized set.
I still have not tried these. I really must since you and I like so many of the same notes!
I have the entire CdG Incense Se.ries and it is difficult for me to say what is my very favorite. I think Avignon may be my least wearable but I love to smell it. It reminds me of the incense in church.
I have the entire CdG Incense Series and it is difficult for me to say what is my very favorite. I think Avignon may be my least wearable but I love to smell it. It reminds me of the incense in church.
Sorry for the double post.
They have that CDG hyper-real thing going for them that I have to be in the mood for but they are just so good, just when I think I’m bored with them I get a craving. They can be a bit chilly and depthless when compared to some of my other favorites but sometimes I want a scrubbed, bare bones, literal interpretation of incense and they are perfect. Hinoki makes me feel like I’ve just stepped out of a hot bath onto a well scrubbed clean deck on a cool misty morning.
Oops, I meant Kyoto.
I hear you! That quartet just makes me confused :).
A travel set would be perfect!
A beautiful day in Coastal Virginia, after the rain of yesterday comes the dry out. Used up my entire bottle of 7 ml Marni over the weekend, honestly just to get it done. It is nice enough on my skin but I am not passionately loving it! Also, the longevity leaves a lot to be desired. So today? I just have not decided yet………
That cute little Marni bottle is going in the recycling unless someone out there collects cute empty perfume bottles? Drop me a line at stinker underscore kit at yahoo dot com and I will happily send it on. Might be a nice way to share a decant of Marni with someone…….
Ooh! Me! Writing you now!
Working today so I can take the day off later in Februrary. Out too late at a party last night. Then kept awake off and on by sound of family member coughing. Rough morning. So beautiful Caleche, liberally applied, to the rescue.
So. Very. Sleepy. Heading to work (yep) and wearing Burberry Body. This has been in heavy rotation so far this year. Easy to wear to the office using a light application, i love the way it smells in winter, and it has great longevity.
You know it’s not going great when you leave your wallet at the gym, your toast burns to a crisp, and the coffee pot runs over. Such is my Monday morning.
It’s cold here but the sun is shining and I just applied PdE Ambre Russe, so things are beginning to turn around 😉
I hope things are getting better.
My sympathies — having a lousy start to the week here too. My flight to Boston yesterday was canceled and they couldn’t rebook me until Tuesday!
Holy cow! Are you camping out at the airport?!? I hope they put you up somewhere and then picked up the tab 🙂
Luckily I’m in my home town, so no need, but I really needed to get to Boston for work. 🙁
It sounds like you need to start all over again!
I don’t know what I’m wearing. I got an unlabeled decant in a swap and decided to try it. Surprisingly maddening not to know what it is! It smells familiar-ish but I don’t know if I’ve tried it before or it’s just a familiar structure. I’m getting saffron, powder, some citrus?
You can search by intersecting notes on fragrantica:
http://www.fragrantica.com/ingredients-search/
Those are 3 of my favorite notes, so now I’m really curious!
Oh that is a handy feature! It reminds me of Fifi Chachnil.
Oh – love Fifi!!!!
Wearing Annick Goutal Neroli EDP. It’s sunny and going to be 64 degrees Fahrenheit. First nice day in weeks!
Neroli smells like summer!
I am wearing a sample of Tobacco Vanille, it is very nice, it is not love for me but both my husband and my daughter have complimented .
In Hermes Mandarine Ambrée today. It was slightly annoying when I bought it, but now I find midwinter is just the right time for it. And it has been with me for nine hours, believe it or not :)!
It was cold and sunny today. In other words – perfect Carnal Flower weather! I swear, this stuff is almost magical when wafting in frosty air. I can’t wait to get paid so that I can finally get a 10 ml spray of it as a little Valentine’s treat.
OH MAN I love Carnal Flower in that kind of weather. I agree, it’s magic – the first time I tested it was on a cold clear day after snow. It was SO COLD here that breath practically turned into a shower of ice in the air, and I had to go pick up The CEO on a remote part of the farm when he was having tractor trouble, and I had to drive the farm truck that was missing its back window so it was freaking freezing… but I smelled so so good it was like a fairy wonderland outside.
Thank god FM puts out those little 10 ml sprayers!
Wearing Karl Lagerfeld Chloe parfum again. This is The Smell of Me, ca. 1986, and it’s either hopelessly dated or a timeless classic.
I’ll argue for timeless classic. I managed to find some of the Lagerfeld version for my sister whi had it as a signature scent for years. Have to say, I was very tempted to keep it for myself.
By the way, I didn’t see the Chloe listed in your tuberose post.
You know, it was on the original list on my laptop, but maybe it disappeared when I formatted the Word doc for WordPress – WP won’t accept any previous formatting, and I wind up going into the doc and changing font colors and so on. I might have accidentally deleted a line. Thanks for the pointer.
I was forbidden to wear my younger sister’s signature scents (first cKOne, then Dune, then some lavender-vanilla thing I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole because of my lavender headache issues).
I you mentioned it sometime recently because I sidetracked myself looking for it on eBay (and was a good girl and didn’t buy any). I did re-read the last several posts though so mention may have been made elsewhere.
I’ll vote for timelessly classic. !!
It’s really nice stuff.
SOTD is Osmanthus Yunnan. Still visiting with my family. So far, my stealth applications of this, Ambre de Marveilles, and Traversee du Bosphore were successful – no comments either way!
What an indicative definition of success! 🙂
Wearing Adam Levine Woman– a new acquisition from the NYC live swap. We had so much fun passing stuff around and sniffing and comparing. Missionista thoughtfully provided 3ml decants so we could share some things. It was a really great experience and anyone that’s thinking of organizing one in their city should definitely go for it
So how’s the ALW? Any comparisons to something else? I’ve been tempted by a 1-oz. bottle.
I seem to get a lot of sandalwood on my skin with some floral warmth but not as spicy on me as Santal Exotique
Worth $8 for 30ml? I think I might splurge. 😉
I’d say it’s definitely worth that price
I completely agree – worth the price. I bought a bottle for about that and am surprised to find how often I wear it.
I’m so happy it found a loving home with you. And it smells lovely on your skin!
I decided on Antica Farmacista Vaniglia, Bourbon and Mandarino for some spicy orange. We’re having a January thaw, but it is gray and cloudy outside, so I thought this one would brighten things up a little.
I volunteered at a community cleanup up today, so no fancy fragrance while I was working up a sweat.
Yesterday I tested Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. I want to put it on again now. I was not expecting to enjoy it that much, since Mitsouko was a bit musty on me. But I really loved L’Heure Bleue. Vanilla, not too sweet, with vintage embellishments. I don’t know yet if I need an FB or if a decant will do. I wish the cute Guerlain bottle was available in a smaller size.
Update: OK, just a decant it is, lol. I dabbed some on across the room and shortly my fiancée coughed dramatically and asked “What did you do?! It’s too smelly in here!!!” I guess he is not a fan. I’m still enjoying it though. Mmm, it’s in the spicy heliotrope phase now.
My husband had the same reaction! I do like it but he has such a full on reaction to it that I don’t wear it!
My bf also didn’t react so well to this one Sprayed one day shortly before he came in, and he said “were there a bunch of babies in here?” I don’t even quite know what that means…but I’m pretty sure he didn’t like it.
Bronze Goddess! To be wielded sparingly but to powerful effect on cold January days.
As much as I love Bronze Goddess, for me it’s specifically a hot weather perfume (preferably – tropical) so I cannot bring myself to wearing it on a cold(er) day.
I also love wearing BG on cold day (as well as warm). But wearing in the cold lets me start dreaming about being warm again.
SOTD PHI Un Rose du Khandahar. I loved it this morning. Small dab from a sample has faded away at noon to faint musky incense on my wrist. Is it not lasty? Do I need a more generous application?
Of all the samples I’ve tried over the last three months, Scent of Hope, Wisteria Hysteria and Séville à l’Aube are standouts, with Oriza L Legrand Marrion-Nous a close runnerup. Seems that flowers and amber are what I am liking…
I didn’t think Rose du Khandahar was particularly long lasting, but I have scent eating skin.
Phi lasts forever on me but I have a bottle and one spritz distributes a healthy dose that lasts all day and sometimes into the evening. There seems to be quite a difference with some perfumes when dabbed vs spritzed. I wish all samples came in spritz form.
I have a bottle and it doesn’t last a super long time on me. I actually thought it lasted longer dabbed.
I really really like Seville a l’Aube when I was sampling, so I bought a bottle. For some reason, I never find myself reaching for it though. I might actually end up swapping it. Go figure.
Oooooh! I wonder what I might have that you might like? Uh, is it ok, to get a big jump on the swap meet?
I’m wearing Roads Cloud Nine today…because I took off work (we don’t get this Holiday) and I am always on cloud nine when I don’t have to get up for work!
SOTD PG Querelle. Kinda chypre-y, but not enough for me. It seems like some different PG scents end up smelling the same. Querelle dries down to something very like PG Coze…
Off work for the MLK holiday and enjoying the sunshine in my studio
Hi – Jeux de Peau for me although I’m still having problems smelling as I’ve had a very persistent lurgy for about 5 days now. Should be good tomorrow I think but really wanting to get my sense of smell back.
Get better! Even if you don’t feel it yourself, we can tell you: you smell very nice! 🙂
I don’t have work today, so I guess I should wear something I can’t wear normally. Muscs Kublai Khan, it is!
SOTD = Dior Cuir Cannage
… from a largish decant. I erased Eau no Scent and wore this for my afternoon / evening. Now I’m off to do MY errands and I will do so as Cuir Cannage develops. I’m in the camphorated portion of the episode right now and it is morphing into its sweet phase. It’s definitely not a quiet scent and is a no-no around scent phobe family members. The overall effect is like living in the cocoon of a giant leather handbag that is not too overpoweringly leatherish.
I liked it, too. Wonder where I PUT my 5ml decant?
Embracing the grey and went with l’Eau de Hiver. Office friendly and it lasts on my scent eating skin, a win win.
I went with Aftelier Tango extrait today, finishing off my sample.
It is unseasonably warm here so I’m thinking wearing DelRae Wit. Debating a full bottle for spring.
And, I’m so very excited about the single travel sprays and new case from Frederic Malle!
Everyone seems to love Wit, I guess I’ll have to try it!
I like Wit a lot. How I wish DelRae released smaller/travel sprays!
SOTD: Iris Nobile EDP by Acqua di Parma. Soft, slightly spicy, powdery floral to celebrate an almost springlike day.
I really like the AdP Nobile line
My mom has bearded iris that smell exactly like the iris accords in Iris Noblie! I love that one.
What color are those iris’s your mom has? I have some purple ones that smell like grape juice, and a light blue one that smells like tulips, but I don’t have any iris’s that smell like iris…
I went to Nieman Marcus and spritzed on 4 sprays of VCA California Reverie. It’s so very pleasant, but it’s been 3 hours maybe and I can barely smell it (and 4 sprays is a LOT LOT LOT for me). It’s so pretty maybe it’s worth a bottle anyways. I could probably drain a whole bottle with the number of sprays I need! (the other arm has Orchidee Vanille, which is also lovely!)
I thought that, too – it was lovely, especially the topnotes, but so fleeting and so expensive that I figured I’d blow $10 every time I wore it.
It was exceedingly pleasant and easy to wear… there’s worse things to blow 10 dollars on right? 🙂
These two sound like candidates for Splitmeet. I already have a FB of Orchidee Vanille but would want to get to know California Reverie better. I think I was the victim of a less than ideal sample container (the SA was nice but the only container he could find was one of those screw top translucent plastic containers that normally hold liquid cosmetics samples. I think the plastic contaminated the perfume so it was not love at first sniff for me but it showed promise!
Well – at least that was a nice gesture. I asked for a sample and I got nowhere with the SA (hence the 4 sprays). It’s very very pretty! It was actually nice having such a light summery scent on one arm, and the warmer vanilla on the other since I was going in and out of the cold 🙂
What?!! You didn’t have your own glass bottle with you?! What kind of perfumista are you?! ;-P
HAHA clearly a failure!!
SOTM was Bond #9 New York Amber, which I wore before but this time was awful! I tried scrubbing but it wasn’t budging. I did get rid of it with Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer, which left me smelling like lemons, but that was preferable. I did finally put on some Chanel Coromandel, which I think I may be becoming “noseblind” to since I wear it so much!
Since I don’t work today, I’ve decided to do some testing of the previously untested samples – right after I put in the laundry and get some coffee… N hours later I’m still scentless. I need to stop reading blogs and go put some perfume on!
You had skin time and didn’t use it????
I know!!!
Since then I put on Carnal Flower (still hate it) and Moon Bloom (Hmmm… if it weren’t for the tuberose in the opening I would probably wove wearing it) and I still plan to wear some Ambre Sultan later tonight.
this happens to me sooo often!! i’m at home with the baby all day, and i get a minute to do some chores, then i’m playing with the baby and then next thing you know its like 7pm and i haven’t tried anything yet! it’s so sad.
Today is my birthday and my gift-to-self was a little bottle of Azemour, so that’s what I’m wearing. 😀
Happy birthday! Enjoy that Azemour.
Oooh! Happy birthday, and what a great treat!
Happy Birthday woolwine! You smell fabulous!
happiest of birthdays to you!
Happy Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Hoping your day has been wonderful!
Happy Birthday!
SOTD is my new bottle of Lavandula; shout-out to Merlin for the encouragement to wear new bottles right away lest your tastes change while you’ve got them hoarded. (The perfume version of the squirrel who forgets where he’s buried his harvest.)
The scent is great–manages to feel soft (sometimes lavender can be a little too spiky for me–I appreciate the shade of vanilla taking the edge off) but still “natural”, i.e. it doesn’t smell like disinfectant. One yoga studio I go to spritzes everyone with a lavender “aromatherapy” during savasana, and I swear they might as well be spraying us down with lavender-scented Lysol. (I guess that’s one way to keep mats germ-free, but I’d rather not have it on my face!!)
do they ask you if they may spritz, or they just fire away?
Luckily they do usually say you can give a hand signal if you’d prefer to be skipped, although sometimes the teacher has already sprayed half the room before she remembers to mention this. The other thing is that this particular class happens at a very popular time, so the room is mat-to-mat–if your neighbors get sprayed, in effect you get sprayed too. Oh well. Straight to the shower afterward for me in any event!
oh, not good for people with respiratory issues!
A sample of 4160 tuesdays the sexiest scent on the planet. I wasn’t too sure at first as I’m not really a woody oriental fan they tend to overpower me, but it’s growing on me though the vanilla wood stage its at now I’m enjoying!
I have been wanting to try that one- I really need to scare up a sample because I have heard so many great things about it. How would it work in the heat, do you think?
It’s summer here in melbourne and warm and sunny here today and it works really well. I’m not describing it really well but it manages to have a freshness along with the vanilla/wood and it sits close to the skin which makes it easy to wear. Makes a nice change from citrus in the heat!
Well, I definitely have to give it a go then! I am in Florida, intense heat and humidity 9 months of the year, and my natural inclination is towards heavier orientals, which can be a bit much. I’m always looking for something that works well in this climate and I have added this to my next sample order- Thanks 🙂
SOTD Tom Ford Santal Blush (Thank you Floragal!)
I really enjoy wearing this. Now that I’ve had it on all day it’s reminding me of a sandalwood solid I purchased about a year ago. I’ll have to dig it out of my swim bag (it was my end of the day post swim scent – digging it out of my bag reminds me of how long it’s been since I’ve been swimming – maybe I should make a belated NYs resolution to get myself back in the pool!). I wonder if it really smells alike in the dry down, or if my memory is playing tricks on me.
Okay, just tried my solid – a sweet sandalwood. Nothing like TF Santal Blush, but still the perfect post swim balm.
A very sad day – A beloved family member passed away this morning.
SOTD Imperial Opoponax
I’m sorry for your loss. 🙁
My condolences.
Oh I am so sorry to hear that. Wishing you all comfort in this difficult time…
I’m so sorry, take gentle care.
So sorry to hear that 🙁
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Thanks sweeties.
My SOTD is Prada Candy, one of my favorites. Had a wonderful day off and enjoyed going to the movies, having delicious brisket, and snuggling up to hot cocoa with my special someone.
It’s a horrible wet and snowy and dark morning in Stockholm. I’m wearing Ysl In love again, hoping it will give a feeling of spring.
