Happy Tuesday! What's your fragrance today?
I'm wearing Prada Candy.
Reminder: this Friday, 1/9, is Foody Friday: wear a gourmand or foody fragrance.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD Chanel No. 19. After a month of sweet and cozy fragrances No. 19 is a nice change and feels supremely elegant. There’s also something I love about the sprayer on the No. 19 bottle which always provides a wide reaching mist and perfect aim. Wish you all a wonderful day!
I have so many sprayers I dislike, too! But can never remember which is which.
Me too – and unfortunately I often end up spraying only my earlobe…or completely miss myself and end up with a fabulous room spray.
Ooh, I wore this yesterday! It’s crispness is perfect on certain winter days, isn’t it?
Absolutely – this is one of few that seems to work in any season!
No. 19 – so rarely wrong. Backbone in a bottle, too.
True that! 😉
Wearing Chypre Rouge, the first Lutens I ever bought and still one of my all-time favourites. So interesting and just exactly strange enough — wine gums and tree sap!
Ah, wish I could remember my first! Possibly Douce Amere.
That is a really good starting point, though. How many FBs of Lutens do you have? Or is that classified information?
Not classified at all…but my collection is so badly organized I’m not positive. I think 4, and not my favorites either since they’re basically the ones that were easy to find (and 2 of them, because they were marked 50% off): DA, Santal Blanc, Rousse and Chene. Of those, the one that’s nearly drained is Chene.
The rest of them, I make do with decants.
Probably the 4 I’d most like to own would be Tubereuse Criminelle, Rahat, Iris Silver Mist and Chene. And maybe Attarine too while we’re at it.
I LOVE Chypre Rouge! Was my second SL (after Ambre Sultan) but is it my favorite.
This was one of my first Lutens too and I forgot about it, I am going to wear this tomorrow
Wearing Ysl m7 oud absolu.
Nice choice 🙂
Thank you Robin! 🙂 Sadly it’s only from a tester though.
Hey, that’s even happier in a way!
That’s true!
Is that even oud-ier than the original? Because M7 is just about as much oud as I can take (although I really do like it).
I’m sorry, I can’t say – I’ve never tried the original M7 but I doubt it’s as oudy, but it’s still good nevertheless.
SSS Winter Woods, in honor of the first snow of the year. I wish I was curled up by a fireplace with some cocoa instead of the office. The roads were an ice rink this morning. :/
Scent twins today! I work in Northern VA so I’m also experiencing the first snow of winter. Winter Woods is perfect for this weather, and seems to be lasting forever on my wool sweater.
Luckily I can take the train to work, and have great boots for the ~2 1/2 mile walk from the train station to the office (no shuttle today). Hope we all make it home okay this afternoon!
Scent triplets! I actually did end up staying home from work today. Not by choice but because my car got stuck and I gave up and walked home. Sometime today, I need to figure out how to get my car up the hill and back into the garage…
Eeks! Long walks to the train, stuck cars… stay as safe and warm as well as you can! At least we all smell great.
Seriously – I’m surprised that more of the fed offices weren’t closed. There were SO many accidents this morning (at least in MD).
Yep. I’m in MD as well. I feel so sorry for schoolkids and other people relying on public buses today.
Morning commute through the snow was hell this morning and we’ve not even gotten that much. *sigh*
Wearing Ambre Precieux Ultime and really glad I decided to wear such a warm, sweet scent today. I definitely need it.
Yuck. So far, am staying in today.
When I glanced at today’s photo, thought your scent would be Five O’Clock au Gingembre.
Got a batch of Luckyscent samples yesterday–trying O LeGrand Heliotrope Blanc, which is more gourmand than floral on me. It’s nice, much better than the others I’ve tried from this line. My favorite heliotrope scent is MH Coeur d’Ete–much more floral than this one.
It’s not really a good fit with the Prada…spent too long searching for something that fit and finally just took something weird, or weird to me — never heard of root beer bundt cake. Would have been a better fit with Hypnotic Poison, if I had any.
Aftelier’s Palimpsest. It’s not as cold or icy here as in some parts of the country but I think this would be the perfect antidote to really cold weather.
How do you like that? I’m thinking I will get a sample of it.
I like it a lot. I get lots of ylang and peach, but it feels sort of “thick,” not like an airy tropical scent. I put it on about 4 1/2 hours ago and it’s still strong, which is pretty good for a natural perfume.
I am working on my new year’s resolution and am trying two samples from Ann Gerard– Cuir de Nacre and Ciel d’Opale. I am especially liking Ciel with its bright honeysuckle on this snowy day
SOTD is MFK Cologne pour le Soir from a generous swap buddy. Nice and cozy and something I would reach for quite a bit but it only comes in a gargantuan bottle so that’s out of the question.
Besides which, I am reminding myself right now, I am in a holding pattern with perfume purchases! I have to change my mantra to “no more new perfumes! No more new perfumes!”
It’s not easy…
I took almost the whole year off from purchasing in 2013, and then rewarded myself at the end with a nice purchase of Bois des Iles extrait. No guilt at all! Stepping back in 2013 was mostly b/c of lack of funds, a little lack of inspriation, but it really helped to put on the brakes and think about what I really wanted and enjoyed. Once I accepted the fact that I can’t possibly smell or like everything, it made it better. Now it’s much easier for me to say no, and also to know when I really need something rather than just want to sniff or make an impulse purchase. I accept the fact that I’ve not smelled almost any of the new releases the past two years (and that most of them will be disappointing anyway), and that’s just the way it is. Most of my problem is that I don’t have easy access to any good sniffing, but I want to smell new things! The urge to smell something wonderful and transformative never ends! I think if I lived near a good shop and could go on sniffing expeditions from time to time, then I’d want to buy less. But even so, I think I only got about 5-8 bottles in 2014, and they were all very much wanted. I need to start using up at a much faster rate b/c I don’t want to leave instructions for my bottles in my will!!!! 😉
Hey, fragrance wills may be a real option! It would be nice to know out collections will be going to a home where they get real love and appreciation.
My biggest hurdle is not so much the not purchasing part, although that DOES take some will power…No, the biggest problem is that the scents I am naturally drawn to are heavy orientals which really can become uncomfortable in the wicked heat and humidity here. I have to realize that I need to be a little more concerned about how versatile and useful the scent will be year round so I actually USE it and ENJOY it.
The only thing on my “really really really want” list is Onda VdE, which works well for me no matter the temp or humidity. Onda gives the impression of a heavy oriental but is still somehow transparent and diaphanous. I think its magic! Or maybe I am just trying to rationalize the purchase…;)
SOTD is L’Eau au Masculin (Lolita Lempicka)
Tauer noontide petals. The opening reminds me of Chanel No 5.
I have a new sample of this and look forward to trying it. Do you think it would be best in the springtime, or OK now in winter?
I like it now- I imagine I might find it a bit overwhelming in warmer weather.
Thanks for your advice, I’ll probably give it a try tomorrow.
Calvin Klein Truth. An interesting creamy green.
I thought in the end that Truth didn’t really work (for me) but it was tremendously interesting, that green-and-yellow citrus-bamboo accord butting up against all that vanilla. Certainly the most unusual thing to come from CK in the last fifteen years.
Definitely, though Reveal seems like maybe a return to the same spirit. I hardly ever wear Truth but on occasion I find it pleasant and calming, like being in a greenhouse.
I have a big bottle of this that I do not find myself reaching for very often. I love it in the heat of summer, refreshing and green.
This one used to be one of my signature scents. I love to hear about people wearing it still though it’s been discontinued!
Never tried Truth… but you know me and greenies. I really should at least give it a shot.
Mals, I would be HAPPY to send you some!
I can’t imagine how I missed this one! A creamy green sounds amazing! Is it long gone or maybe still at the deep recesses of TJMaxx gone? 😉
Wearing Union’s Celtic Fire, since it is just so cold and snowy today. I might wear it all week, considering the weather. Given how incredibly strong this one is for most of the year, I can’t believe how it calms down under 3 layers of sweaters in the hideous cold. I can only smell it very close up, and I did not stint on the application this morning, either.
Wearing Lolita Lempicka, already looking forward to gourmand Friday. Hope you are all safe in the snow. Scalding hot here – surely too much for LL, but now it’s sprayed!
One of my favourites, I may wear it on Friday.
It gets a lot of skin time around here. 🙂
Root beer bundt cake! Yum! I’m going to have to check out that recipe.
SOTD: Cuir de Lancôme (and keeping up my New Year’s resolution to spray much more than my norm)
Loving it!
Yay, spray away! I made the same resolution as you 😀 *sniffing in the air to catch a whiff of that lovely leather*
Ha, if you make it, do tell us if it’s edible!
I’m testing Rien today and I swear I smell like bananas. Everything smells sweet on me–worst superpower ever.
And how long does banana-Rien last on you? It’s about the only perfume capable of triumphing over my perfume-eating skin. Trying to think of a perfume sweet-making skin would not overcome by – maybe something like Fleurs de Sel or VCA Midnight in Paris?
Curiously not long, it seems, although I just have it dabbed on wrists and it’s now calming down to reasonable leather. I haven’t tried either of those two and Fleurs de Sel sounds especially nice!
Wearing Bas de Soie for Take it Easy Tuesday.
That sounds very chill!
It’s a hot evening where I am and I’m wearing wide-legged pants, a tank top and Birkenstocks. Nevertheless, I am altogether suave and elegant in Cristalle au Verte!
very beautiful!
I take it you are talking about the Chanel and not the Birkenstocks, lol!
SOTD is Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice. Joining the others in bitter cold and snow, all I can say is, Brrrrrrrrr!
La Traversée du Bosphore to get me in gourmand mood. Truth to tell I don’t need much for that. Much as I do not have a “sweet tooth”, I love sweet fragrances, interesting sweet fragrances I hasten to add.
You smell delicious! Love Traversee du Bosphore 😉
Ooh- good tip – Maybe I’ll wear TdB on Friday! I don’t have too many gourmands.
Trying Bottega Veneta Knot for the first time today. I’m not sure I’ve ever smelled real orange blossom, but this certainly seems close to the wild mock orange that blooms here in the spring. So far it’s a nice choice for another day buried in the snow.
I really like that one. It is nice.
Yesterday in Bloomie’s I tried the Knot body cream and boy did I swoon. Gorgeous stuff and lovely on the skin. I wonder about how it would last throughout the day compared to the perfume which is pretty good. It seemed to be strong in its scent and a friend noticed it right away. Tempted!
The Knot cream sounds great, orange blossom is so uplifting, and it should be very nice for your skin during midwinter… (Disclosure: totally enabling.)
Oh, no need to enable me — I spent some time last night at home searching for a discounted tub of it on ebay and elsewhere.
I think you’re right in regards to the uplifting nature of orange bloosom. This time of year I seem to crave it.
I tried a sample of Knot. I swooned for the first fifteen minutes and was frantically searching for it online. The opening is gorgeous! Twenty minutes later, my swoon quickly turned to chagrin when the scent quickly morphed into a clean laundry musk scent. I wanted the gorgeous orange blossoms not a reminder of housework!
Sadly Knot didn’t really work out for me either – but I’m glad it’s getting some love out there!
Le Couvent des Minimes makes an Eau Aimable/Cologne of Love hand cream: http://usa.lecouventdesminimes.com/aimable-hand-cream,4,1,415,8045.htm#s=871. I haven’t tried the cream, but the cologne is a heavenly orange blossom with no soapiness and no indoles.
Ulta carries LCDM.
I really want to test knot! I do like orange blossom, but already have a few. I want to be impressed very much!!
It’s freezing cold here and I’m finished with morning clients, so I went thru all the perfume looking for something suitably cozy. At first I was going for the RP Casbah because I thought I wanted a snootful of spice, but then I saw the Cuir Ottoman and just had to spray that one. I haven’t worn it in about a year and I have to say I’m loving it much more in the colder weather. It’s a milder fragrance than I remember, kind of like crawling inside a rawhide man bag and finding a little bouquet of irises at the bottom. That suits me fine and I think I will wear it more often in the cold weather.
Wow! That root beer bundt cake recipe looks fabulous.
Sajini, Casbah is a recent acquisition of mine! I’m thinking it will be wearable in the summer because of the sweet-herbal angelica which gives it quite a refreshing and energizing power 🙂 (Though I am hoping it will be good for winter too…)
Casbah in the summer, what a great idea! If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get your Casbah? I’m getting to the end of a carded sample and have put it on my buy list. But it seems to be one of the not so available Piguets. Did they stop making it?
Sajini, I found it at a discounter… But unfortunately I’m in South Africa so that won’t help you. Can you shoot me an e mail at: merlynn dot edelstein (all one word) and it’s gmail dot com. I’m going to try get some spritzers this week and can perhaps send a little decant your way 🙂
Oh that’s really nice of you, I found some through a discounter and there are also a few available on eBay so I think I will get one there.
Glad you found it!
Sajini, Fragrancex seem to have a pretty comprehensive range of Piguet, and have Casbah in stock
Yes I just saw that. Thank you!
I’m another one that is enjoying the looks of that root beer bundt cake! Today I sprayed on Reminiscence Ambre, which is one of my favorite ambers.
D&G Light Blue for me. I have a couple of yoga classes on the schedule today and Light Blue is pretty inoffensive in case someone puts their mat close to mine.
My older sister wears light blue, and it is quite soft and pleasant.
That bundt cake and Prada candy are a wonderful, cozy combination for all the senses!!
My SOTD is Chanel No 5 EDT. It is a Christmas present from my sister.
Oh- you smell nice! I especially like any incarnation of No 5 over winter. There is something about wearing it when it’s cold that brings out the light spicey sandalwood base. It smells very different than when I wear it in the summer.
I know what you mean about it smelling great in winter!
I also love to wear it when its hot outside. I guess there’s no time of year I don’t enjoy wearing No 5 😉
That bundt cake looks delicious! My SOTD is Santal Blush – Tom Ford.
I really like Prada Candy, and I love cake! Today I am wearing Pretty Woman by Barbara Orbison for the first time, got the bottle in a swap. I like the way it smells on my wrist but not my neck, I think I sprayed too much on. I was drawn to it because carnation is one of the notes but I don’t smell it much. It’s worth more sampling.
Over spraying on the neck can be hideous!
SOTD is Arquiste for JCrew No 57. Been wearing it a lot lately. Its just so easy and I keep leaving it on the dining room table – making it even easier to put on when rushing out the door 😉
Frigid Tuesday morning here so I decided to go with Ambre Sultan, but at the last second, I changed my mind and went with Havana Vanille. So cozy!
I’m wearing Chanel Coco today. Seemed right for a chilly morning. But I think I overdid it a bit, and it’s been threatening to give me a sinus headache all morning.
I feel guilty for NOT loving Coco,is that weird?Lol
You shouldn’t feel guilty. It’s just not your thing, and that’s ok. I don’t like No.5 much.
I love Coco! I hope your headache didn’t put you off Coco! Too bad it really needs a light hand. It’s just wonderful stuff.
It never got to the point of full-on headache, so it’s ok… It’s better now that it’s died down. It hasn’t put me off; I just need to remember to go lighter with this one. 🙂
Yep, Coco’s a heavy hitter. A very beautiful heavy hitter.
Today I’m (finally) trying the Xerjoff Lira sample that came in December’s Olfactif set. I figured since its cold and snowy outside (I’m admittedly toasty and warm in my house), a good vanilla would be in order. It’s alright, but fairly simple. I’m only getting vanilla and chocolate. The projection is really strong on me though, so it’s mildly suffocating and it might end up giving me a headache. Oh well – just another bottle I don’t have to buy 🙂
Tiziana Tirenzi White Fire for today, LuckyScent had a sale and I had been wanting it for a while. Technically I bought it in 2014, but I’m including it in 2015 for the Damage Poll because it only arrived yesterday.
I loved the Lira on me enough to splash out for a full bottle. When I was wearing the sample I got so many compliments it seemed entirely worth the large pricetag!
LuckyScent had a sale?!?
I know, I was stunned. The website front page said “Specials” and White Fire and XIX March, along with about 10 other scents from various houses, were marked down. The White Fire was almost $50 off! And of course I used the NST promo code for free shipping.
CdG’s Rhubarb from the sherbet series. Smells a bit more masculine on me than I’d ordinarily prefer, but I still like it!
Frederic Malle Iris Poudre. It’s still the perfume that gets the most complimented at work! One colleague even grabbed my arm for a close-up sniff.Love the nuances between what I sprayed on skin, and what was on my shirt. The top notes lasts longer on fabric,so you get to enjoy Iris Poudre for much longer when sprayed on skin and fabric!
Well, you smell great! Iris Poudre is so universally beautiful and balanced. I get complements when I wear that too, which I love. “You smell good” is one of my favorite complements.
Yes!Love when people aknowledge that you smell good!Lol.Iris Poudre is fast becoming my favorite Malle perfume(next to Portrait of a Lady!)
Iris Poudre’s another one of those no-brainer I-smell-good scents for me. I especially love the drydown.
I love Iris Poudre! It’s one of my favorite Malles too. I’m hoarding my little 5ml mini.
Hi everyone! Working at my local Lauder counter today. Funny conversations with all the ladies. Lots of head shaking and weird looks shot my way lol. I wore the new MK for men today. We just got the tester and my hubby liked the original. Smells similar to me maybe lighter? Not bad, you could do worse. They are all so scared of the original Micheal for women that I am tempted to spray it!
Wow, who would have thought to make a cake with root beer? Sounds delicious! Wearing Fresh Brown Sugar, one of my favorite go-tos, any time of year. Chilly this morning, but it’s supposed to warm up so couldn’t decide what to wear. Sweet and lemony today and just might wear it again on Friday.
FBS is really lemony, isn’t it?
I don’t think I’ll bother with the root beer cake, at least while we still have gingerbread. Yum.
Oh and a young lady asked me for a classy old school style fragrance, so I showed her Lauder Private Collection original. Of course she recoiled in horror after sniffing. Later I saw her buy Very Sexual in a pink blinged out bottle LOL!!!
Lol.At least it wasn’t ANY other celebuscent!
I do not think there is anything more Old School and classy then Azuree. I may have to wear that this week with the appropriately uber cold weather!
I had to laugh. Galbanum can really smack you around, can’t it? (I love the stuff, but it sho’ ain’t modern.)
Very funny story! Maybe Very Sexual/”pink juice” is so old school for the 2000s? How long has Flowerbomb been with us? Isn’t 2005 old now?
I have been enjoying the easy and lovely Burberry Brit Rhythm. On my constant quest for the excellent but cheap, purchased Fancy and am not enjoying it that much. I will put it away and try another day. Going to dinner to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary! Maybe a smidgen of Bal a Versailles would be just the thing!
Bal a Versailles is a perfect choice for such an occasion! Happy anniversary!
Happy anniversary and congratulations!
Congrats! Happy anniversary! 🙂
Happy Anniversary!That is a milestone!!Bal a Versailles sounds perfect;celebratory and classy!Enjoy!
Happy anniversary! I love BaV! Good, romantic, old school sexy choice.
Happy anniversary!
best wishes for the next 25!
I’m also really enjoying Burberry Brit Rhythm and am alway on your same quest of excellent but cheap. I’ve contemplated Fancy a number of times but haven’t gone for it yet. Happy 25th anniversary! What a fabulous milestone!
Continuing with my old-fashioned floral theme started yesterday with Anais Anais, I put on Carolina Herrera, a big white floral. A sillage monster from the 1980s, but a change from spice.
Went out signing legal papers and setting up a new checking account with The CEO this morning, as we have a new loan on some real estate we’re intending as a rental property investment. (I foresee headaches. If everything turns out okay, the rental income will more than cover the mortgage payments, and it *should* rent well because it’s in town, right across from the middle school. But the possibility of things NOT turning out well has me worried.)
For some unknown reason, my hand reached out and grabbed my Byredo Flowerhead decant when I got dressed this morning. I think Flowerhead is gorgeous, but this is only the third time I’ve worn it – I happened to be wearing it for the first time the day our Hayley-dog died unexpectedly last spring. It was kind of sweet that our new dog, Hunter, wagged his tail off when we pulled into the driveway, and then proceeded to lick my wrists where I’d applied the Flowerhead.
Good luck on the rental property. Insurance, insurance, insurance!
Oh yes. We’re already on first-name basis with our Farm Bureau insurance guy (personal auto, farm auto, homeowners, farmowners, life, you name it)…
I wish you the best of luck finding tenants! So far we’ve had good luck with our rentals – not everyone out there is too bad. 🙂
Sacrebleu!
Gorgeous! It’s my fav PdN.
That cake actually does look pretty good. Would probably go well with Diptyque Volutes, which I am re-trying today. Preferring the EDP over the EDT, since it seems to last longer and just has a deeper tobacco note to me. May have to get some eventually next NM has a GWP event.
SOTD was Guerlain Tonka Imperial, SOTE after shower is Vero Profumo Rubj VdE. Snowstorm outside, which means my car will be covered in snow and ice again, sigh…
Snowstorm there,Heatwave here…it’s half past midnight here,It’s 24 degrees celsius…W.T.F is up with the weather!Lol!Iris Poudre is still shining on my skin though!
This morning I needed some serious coddling to deal with everthing! I put on some Bois des Iles extrait. Ah, a liquid mink & cashmere stole to soothe the soul. But this afternoon I needed a very serious pick me up, and get this snow out of here kind of fragrance, so I refreshed late with some AG Ninfeo Mio. A soft green remedy to the dreary snow and 18 degrees F. Blah.
I must have been in the same sort of mood as you today…Bois des Iles to keep me calm at work, then came home to a whole bunch of Bombay Bling to make me whistle a happy tune. Both did their jobs perfectly!
SOTD = SL Boxeuses, inspired by Undina
We got off lucky today in NYC as it snowed after I got to the office and mostly melted away on my walk back to Penn Station. Tomorrow will be one of the coldest days and woo hoo, I am working from home with one errand to run near home and putting out stuff curbside for a donation truck to pick up.
I’m loving the look of that root beer bundt cake. Those thinking of baking it (looking at you Floragal), ease report back 🙂
SHL 777 Kohl de Bahrein today. Really a beautiful scent and one of the few iris fragrances I can wear.
Looks like I’m one of the lucky few with beautiful weather. Supposed to get chilly tomorrow night (chilly for here, at least) and I’m wondering if the heaters and Plankets will be enough to keep my tropicals alive on the patio. I have a hundred-ish potted plants and there just isn’t room among the boxes to bring everything inside (not that I can move the largest ones).
Hope the plants make it!
My SOTD was Five O’Clock au Gingembre. I tried a new dry shampoo this morning and I’ve hated the smell of it all day — not a keeper. I’m off to shower and then find something really cozy for a SOTE…
Yesterday’s sample of Amouage Epic was still hanging around this morning and I kept thinking it reminded me of a cousin of Mohur, so I wore that today. Looking forward to some fresh skin to try the others in the Olfactif box. It’s gotten so cold here that they have closed the schools so not looking forward to tomorrow!!! Give me strength!!!
SOTD was Juicy Couture Dirty English. My 9 year old daughter asked what I was wearing and couldn’t stop laughing when told. I really hope the next time I wear it an adult inquires… I’m dying to see the reaction. That being said, I did smell rather good today. : P
