December is flying by! It's Thursday again; what fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Caron Alpona. I wish I had bought more of this while it was still in production.
Reminder: this Friday, 12/12, wear something from Christian Dior. On 12/19, we'll do De-stress Friday...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Shown is a Caron pearl travel spray, €395.
SOTD is Aomassai. It’s the right day for it.
I like that one 🙂
I’m wearing one I hadn’t thought of in a while, La Belle Helene. There is definitely lots of pear here, but enough other interesting things going on that it doesn’t smell like shampoo.
Oh, I should dig mine out too.
Vintage Halston Z-14. Sexy, spicy old-school chypre. Man, they just don’t make them like this any more. I have about two doses left and then it’s gone forever.
Ditto w/ my Alpona…almost gone.
I know this is a rarefied, First World Problem kind of thing, but it’s still awful. It’s like being told you can look at the Eiffel Tower or “Sunday on La Grande Jatte” once more and then you never get to see it again.
You smell fantastic! One of my favorites.
Trying Chypre Mousse by Oriza Legrand today and I really like it.
Today is the office holiday party so between the women wearing sparkles and the guys wearing ugly sweaters (there’s a contest) it’s making for a lot of fun in the office. I’m rather interested in seeing how the gift exchange goes since we had to buy a “real” gift and a “gag” gift. Some of the gag ones I’d heard about from last year were horrifying, but hilarious.
That sounds like fun! We’ve been pushing for an ugly sweater party at my office, too!
You can never go wrong with ugly sweaters for the holidays 😉
Sparkle vs ugly….great idea!
This is a fun office 🙂
One year my husband got me a perfume called “Mephisto” Parfum de Paris. When I opened the box a spring loaded black rat popped out.
Ha!
Wow, that’s really weird as part of opening up a perfume, but I bet it was good for a laugh 😀
That is very funny! I would be a sucker for that too. 😉
The most we can hope for at our party this afternoon is a santa hat or two. Wearing the Christmassy Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice aka “You CAN make a perfume out of cranberry!”
Oooooh! I hadn’t heard of that one, but must try it now! I love cranberry! Is it a sweet cranberry or tart?
I would say it’s only slightly on the sweet side, maybe like cranberry juice unlike cranberry cocktail mega-sugar. It supposedly a conifer fragrance, so maybe I’m the only person who gets tart berries…
I don’t get berries at all. I get pine/fir/resins/ perhaps a tiny bit of gingerbread, a walk thru a forest on a cold winter’s day. I always wear this scent when we go to pick out our Christmas tree each year and later when we decorate it. It’s a holiday favorite for me!
I’ve never smelled cranberries in it either! (Although that would be great.) It’s mostly evergreen resin and gingerbread and a wood fire for me, like a really great winter’s afternoon. I love it to bits.
I’m wearing Couvent des Minimes Eau des Missions. The booziness is a little fruity on me, which I like–I wish the booze lasted longer. My nose doesn’t register too much incense, though, so I find this pretty strictly a vanilla scent. Regardless, I’m very happy with my choice today, and I kind of enjoyed spritzing this all over like fairydust this morning.
I got a bottle of this a few weeks ago and am really enjoying it, especially as an evening/bed time scent. Like you, I also like the fact I can go all kinds of trigger happy with this one and it’s never too much.
Great lasting power too!
You smell fab:)
I am celebrating our “cold snap” with Diptyque Eau Lente which is fantastic!
Oooh, that sounds nice. Just added to my must try list!
I started on the Dior project a day early. Wearing semi-vintage Diorissimo, and it’s great. Tomorrow is Poison–watch out world.
Yum!!
Not having such a good day. Wearing ELDO Like This cause I needed something cozy.
Sorry 🙁
I like this one as a happy comfort scent, too. Hope it helped 🙂
Sampling Soivohle Transcendental Orange which has a fairly strong champaca note on me. Nice but not instant love like yesterday’s Rosa Sur Reusse
That champaca note sounds nice.
Washed it off and am now in Kalimantan (my newest full bottle, gotten for a steal on cyber Monday )
Oh, that one is just fascinating to me! But I would rarely be able to wear it here due to the 9 months of scorching heat and atrocious humidity. I bet it’s wonderful in cool/cold weather! Congrats on your Cyber Monday Score 🙂
SOTD is a DSH sample, Vanilla Bourbon Intense, I think it is called. I am loving it, more than Scent of Hope, actually. This is lots of vanilla with increasing incense over time, smooth and not to sweet, but sweet enough to be very comforting.
I bought one sample from DSH and got two freebies included!
Vanilla Bourbon sounds great! It’s snowing here today, and a boozy vanilla sounds wonderful 🙂
At five hours it is close to the skin, warm and lovely…I’ll be bummed if it fades away too fast, but I really like this one!
I have a DSH Coeur de Vanille which is also very gorgeous. I don’t wear it enough! I would love to go on a 3 day trip to Boulder someday and just spend all my time sniffing at her shop and then having tea at that exotic (Dushanbe?) tea house. She has such a vast and interesting line that just trying to buy samples seems impossible. It would be so much fun to explore.
I’m wearing Possets Perfumes Cootie. Strange name, but its an interesting apple and ginger scent. It reminds me of mulled cider.
Wearing Apres la Mousson, a freebie from our lovely Robin. It’s prettier than I remind, though this probably isn’t the best season for it.
Remember*
Glad it found a new, happier home!
SOTD is Bvlgari Au Thé Rouge. I got it in a recent swap and I have been enjoying it a lot (more than I thought I would, which is great!)
Wearing a sample of Oeillet Bengale today from a recent swap with a generous perfumista (thank you hajusuuri!). I like it a lot it but prefer de Profundis, which seems to me more delicate and transparent.
On another note, I just did a blind buy of a small bottle of Bvlgari Omnia (the original) based on reviews I have run across. Hopefully this will work out the same way it did when I did a blind buy of Bvlgari Black, which I love and wear frequently. It was a blind but wise investment!
Happy almost weekend to all 🙂
PS- that travel spray is to die for! Which I would probably do coughing up that much change for it- BUT sooooo beautiful!
Isn’t that gorgeous?? I wouldn’t pay for it either, but it would be nice to have one full of Alpona.
I sprayed Coco before bed and so it’s kind of defaulted into today’s SOTD, with a touch-up! Ahh, if only all perfumes had this sort of longevity.
Works perfectly, though, because the snow is coming down here in Ontario and I feel nice and cozy!
Coco is one I want to love, but just don’t. I did sniff Coco Noir the othe day, and didn’t feel so put off by it. Maybe I’ll try that one out.
I will say that the reformulated Coco isn’t nearly as special. I hate to be “that perfumista” and insist on vintage, but the top notes in my current bottle of Coco just don’t compare to my older bottles. But the dry down is similar – so if you are on the fence and only have access to the current formulation, try it on skin, it might surprise you after the first 30 minutes.
My nose detected the same with Coco. Eventually you get to the same place in the drydown, the overall effect is basically the same, but the opening is not as interesting. The cast of characters on the stage is greatly diminished. I’ll be *that* perfumista with you: a few years ago when I heard it was going to be reformulated, I went crazy hunting down old batch number Coco edp and edt bottles. The ONLY time I ever did something like this: when I called the stores I asked the SAs to read me the batch codes off the bottles before I’d buy them. I hit the jackpot at a sluggish Macy’s in our region. I am set for life!
I wish I’d heard about the reformulation prior to getting my bottle, I would have attempted the same!
I never ever liked Coco… still don’t – it’s too Opiumesque for me… but I agree, it’s had much of its mystery reformulated out of it. Sad.
If I ever smelled it before the reformulation, I don’t know about it so I don’t know what I’m missing! Maybe good for my wallet? 🙂
Whatever works for you! It is a big perfume for an introvert like myself but there’s something about it that I love to the moon and back.
That Alpona bottle is beautiful.
I’m saving my wrists today for a package, due to arrive, with lots of samples, including Une Rose de Kandehar. The package will also contain a replacement bottle of Ellie D Nuit and a Kusmi tea chest. It’s a little Christmas present I got for myself.
To clarify — not an Alpona bottle, just an empty atomizer, although I assume if you buy it in the store they will fill it from one of the urns.
Sounds like a wonderful self-care package. Enjoy your goodies!!
I’m wearing one of my more neglected fragrances DK Black Cashmere, which is wonderful at this time of year. A lot of warmth in that pebble shaped bottle.
Still dithering about tomorrow, I’ve got a mini of Poison esprit de parfum which I might just use for this occasion.
This is definitely the time of year for Black Cashmere
Black Cashmere is so good.
Also dithering about tomorrow. I *have* some Poison (I highly doubt I’ll venture into Diorissimo tomorrow, it’s too COLD), but I also have a small decant of Cuir Cannage and one of nonvintage Diorling.
I’m in Lonestar Memories that has a really great dry down – smoky leathery vanilla. I really like this one – in fact it may be one of my favourite Tauers. This has definitely grown on me though because when I first got the discovery set of samples it was the one that I put aside in the don’t like pile. Tastes change pretty quickly with perfume so always good to go back to those that haven’t worked earlier.
Oh no, I sold my barely-used bottle of Lonestart Memories, and having read your comment now I’m having regrets. I never did overcome my dislike of the leather note/ Maybe I should have given it more time/ Gah, it’s too late now.
Lonestar is gorgeous; for me it was love at first sniff but then I adore smoky scents. I still haven’t got a bottle but the Tauers suffer quite a hefty mark-up when purchased in Holland which so far has deterred me from getting some.
Lonestar was my first bottle of niche and I think it is gorgeous.
It’s snowing this morning and my kitty is running from window to window, monitoring the movements of the big fat gray kitty who roams the neighborhood yards.
Today I’m wearing ELDO Afternoon of a faun. I really loved this one when I first tried it, but I’m kind of luke warm about it now. I think I will have to make some ajustments now that Lyric is in the house. I’m hoping that my perceptions will settle back to normal after some time has passed.
Apropos of absolutely nothing except you mentioned your kitty, here is a link to hearten any cat lovers heart— coffee and cat anyone?
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/johnson/article/Oakland-s-Cat-Town-Cafe-a-creative-humane-5899515.php
Ha, I thought you were going to say your cat was going from window to window to watch the snow. My cat was doing that this morning (and woke me up before the alarm went off, grrrr).
I only tried Afternoon of a Faun in the shop and it seemed nice enough. I was thinking of giving this one as a present. What, may I ask, is not quite right about it now? Is it development?
There’s a fuzzy line between serene and snoozy, and it falls onto the snoozy side.
Ha! Exactly true. It’s on the snoozy side for me now too. When I first sniffed faun, the immortelle note seemed quirky and radical but that was before I experienced richer smelling perfume. Now it seems very quiet but sometimes thats a good thing. Also faun seems to have more development for me in humid weather. As a pretty new perfume lover, sometimes I feel my tastes are all over the place. I can stop liking something and a few months later fall in love with it all over again.
I think that might be the case with faun.
Wearing Spicebomb. I’m a bit fascinated with its pellucid quality.
So looking forward to Dior day. Will my sinuses be good enough for the Poison I’m looking forward to?
I think I just learned a new word. Thanks, solanace!
Me too! I love this blog and the comments- Instead of feeling like I am wasting time dithering around in cyberlandia, I have convinced myself that I’m reading for edification! 😉
I agree. Plus this one is a good Friday project …”wear a scent you admire for it’s pellucid quality!”
Exactly how I feel. This is such an awesome, interesting AND sweet community!
You are welcome!
Hope your sinuses cooperate! 🙂
We are experiencing rain of biblical proportions– sadly sans any appearances by Russell Crowe. The schools are all closed so both of my boys are home, soon to be joined by several other damp middle schoolers. I’ve discovered a leak in our roof, that we have probably had for a while, but with so little rain this is the first time it has had a chance to drip. Aargh!
Definitely a papier d’armenie and fire in the fireplace sort of day. With so many teenage boys around, I suspect work will be out of the question. There is only one solution, Mitsouko extrait. That should shore me up!
Mitsouko sounds like a great choice to soldier on through your epic rains! I hope your house remains dry-ish and your reseviors get full.
I’ve got Attrape-Coeur on today. I always seem to get it out in winter. I used to think it wasn’t very tenacious on my skin, but I’ve changed my mind. I’m wearing it for the second day in row, and I can still smell it on me when I go to bed in the evening! Okay, I do re-spritz during the day. But i take it back – it does linger on.
Still can’t decide between Miss Dior and Diorling for tomorrow. Or Dioressence? Or Dune? Too much to choose from.
My scent of the day is Strange Invisible Perfumes – Magazine Street. I really like the juice (although it’s strangely medicinal and warm & boozy on me) and also the fact that it’s supposed to be a fragrant hommage to my dream destination – New Orleans.
As to Dior – I’m not really a Dior girl (I don’t own any of their perfumes), but I fondly remember my mother’s Tendre Poison and wish I now had a bottle of it, it was gorgeous.
I just got a sample of Santal Majuscule and though it leans a bit more masculine that I usually like, I’m surprisingly intrigued by this! Perfect for a snowy day in MD!
Snow, snow, snow everywhere! Wearing my cosiest flannel shirt with a generous application of Coromandel.
Perfect!
In wearing By Kilian Back to Black: Aphrodisiac. I have a sample. It’s not cheap, is it? It’s just fine, I like the honey notes, though I can’t say it’s particularly original. Reminds me a lot of Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum (or one of the flankers – I forget which vial I’m thinking of – sorry, I’m sleep deprived!).
I’m in YSL Cinema today that I received in the swap. Longevity isn’t great on me but I like the scent. For tomorrow I have only one Dior, so I’ll be wearing Dune from my mini.
I wear Cinema a lot when I go on family visits – it’s so pretty and inoffensive.
Wearing Un Jardin en Mediterranee. I can never remember if there are 2 Rs or 2 Ns and had to look at the bottle to spell it properly. Finally cooling off a bit and I’m enjoying the figgy woody goodness.
Not sure if I have and Dior at all for tomorrow’s project! Definitely no bottles, so I’ll have to dig through my samples and decants. I know I had a small decant of Escale a Portofino, but think that one is gone.
That one is definitely on my “to buy” list. Think I’ll wait until spring though, seems more like a warm weather scent (vs. the cold in the Pacific NW).
I cannot keep up with this month. I am still back on Dec. 2nd. Le sigh.
After a couple days of not feeling well and going scentless, i went with Shalimar edt. Powdery soft and exotic all at once!
I did a layering experience today, Chanel No.5 extrait layered with Pink Sugar and I love the results, it is very cozy at this snowy day.
That’s a very adventurous blend! I can’t even imagine what that would smell like.
The result is really very special, I love layering and this time I feel that these two scents they don’t blend with each other but they stay themselves if that makes sense, sometimes I smell the Chanel 5 and sometimes I smell the pink sugar but I love it
I’m wearing CdG Cinnamon Sherbet. Seemed like a good choice for a cold and rainy day!
Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood. I never find this one as raunchy as everyone else does. A sexy powder bomb, sure, but not inappropriate for mixed company.
An old favorite, PG L’Oiseau de Nuit.
SOTD is vintage Guerlain Vol de Nuit extrait, which is just perfect for shoveling snow …. for the third day in a row 🙁 ! There is nothing like the combo of warm sillage drifting up from under my scarf paired with the smell of crisp snow! Snow only makes that airy cool leathery quality of VdN more pronounced.
It’s nearly 5pm and I never put anything on. I feel deprived. (and have community choir this evening so I can’t put any on until after that…)
Wearing Jour d’Hermes today. When I tried it in the spring, I thought it was nice, but wasn’t in love. But then I saw Victoria at Bois de Jasmin liken it to sun on a cloudy day…. Winter where I live is perpetually cloudy, a dark thick blanket covering the valley. Now, sunny Jour d’Hermes is one of my top picks, applied over-liberally.
Decided to go with Cuir de Lancome today.
Today I’m wearing Byredo’s Mojave Ghost. I took the day off today and did a quick spray of it this morning.
OMG! What a day. My principal and the other counselor was out sick today. I had a temp and was sick as a dog, but had to work. There always has to be a Counselor on campus, so I had to stay. Well I made it. My SOTD was Santal Blush by Tom Ford.
Love Tom Ford’s Santal Blush!
Hope your Friday is better than today.
Oh no!!! You should call in NOW for tomorrow (that’s what I did last night – home sick today). Although you felt terrible you certainly smell fantastic! I hope you feel better soon!
I was doing some xmas shopping today so popped into Mecca Cosmetica, just to look! 🙂
Tried Boudicca Wode on one arm and Rokka by Antonia’s Flowers on the other. Wow. Wode was amazing! Totally fascinating but full-on herbal and deep, dark and mysterious. Wasnt sure i liked it at all but it was strangely addictive and i kept sniffing it, and now want to try it again.
Rokka is meant to be a floral masculine, in a pretty floral bottle. I love the opening notes- fresh licorice and flowers! It is ‘nice’ but ill need to try it again when it doesnt have such intense competition
I want to
try Wode one of these days…do please comment on how your second encounter goes!
Wearing Surrender to Chance Coldwater Canyon and then because my skin drank it, a little Tawaf at the neck. I should have been a jasmine bomb and I was not. Nearly 12 hours in since application, I can still smell this fragrance if I put my nose right on my skin. It was a lovely, fleeting thing and just a little thin for my taste. Your mileage may vary.
