Happy Wednesday! What is your fragrance today?
I'm wearing L'Occitane Vanille & Narcisse, my favorite of the La Collection de Grasse scents I've been able to try (I never did come across Rose & Osmanthus).
Reminder: this Friday, 12/5, is Friday At The Mall: wear something from a mall chain (Lush, The Body Shop, Victoria's Secret, L'Occitane, etc & etc).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Current formulation of Rochas Femme, thanks to a generous NST lady : )
Nice!
I was craving something fruity so I put on Blackberry & Bay. Curious to see how long this lasts.
Elisa,
We are scent twins today! It usually lasts all day on me. But then again, I am heavy-handed when it comes to fragrances. 🙂
So am I! But this is a sample so I have to be a wee bit conservative 🙂
Wearing Ormonde Woman which is working perfectly on this slightly frosty, sunny day.
I hope the sun comes out here. It is dreary right now.
Started by sampling Yesterday Haze which I decided isn’t really me so I’m now in Jardins d’Armide which is one of my faves.
Yesterday Haze is one that had to grow on me. Now I am debating if it is FB worthy to me. Sorry it didn’t work out for you. 🙁
Yesterday Haze is really well done but perfumes usually don’t grow on me– if it doesn’t grab me in the first hour then I’m not going to buy it or even retry it as I have hundreds of other scents to try (literally)
If I hate something the first time I wear it on my skin, I probably won’t have the discipline to re-visit it. And, yeah, I know that there is a big difference between something not grabbing you and hating something 🙂
I’m with you and kindcrow on this. I will rarely bother. Life’s too short to ‘grow’ a perfume, I have so many I already love.
I really like Yesterday Haze, it’s currently number two on my buy list but that list just sits and collects dust most of the time.
My ranking shifts around but some things sit there for years and others hardly at all. The suspicion that Byredo Green is slipping into discontinuation prompted a buy ahead of my current number one. (The much newer Desarmant)
I am plowing through my sample of Jardins d’Armide at a rapid rate and I like it more each time! I will probably ask for this for my birthday, since I have other items already out there for Christmas. Today is Bois d’Iris. I am on an Iris kick right now….
Jardins d’Armide was instant love for me. I knew I was going to get a bottle almost as soon as it hit my skin. This is such a great scent on me. Love, love, love it
Angela recently commented that a moment of perfume instant love is like a “sucker punch.” I love it when that happens.
I would love to hear more from anyone about Jardins d’Armide. Is the orange blossom prominent? How about the carnation? I recently overdid orange blossom trying BV Knot. It was just a “no” for me. I love carnation, though, so am tempted to sample Jd’A. It sounds lovely.
There wasn’t enough OB for me in JdA. I didn’t love it, but I’ve liked it better each time I’ve worn it.
It’s mostly a honeyed rose scent– I’d describe it as a boudoir scent– pretty with definite sexy undertones
I just ordered a sample of this from STC!
SOTD is Iris Poudre – wanted something cool yet cozy.
And you found it! Have a great day.
Lemming this!
Scent twin :)! I wanted something personal and yet slightly formal, it fits that bill as well :).
Good Morning Everyone! My SOTD is Blackberry and Bay by JM. Everyone knows I am a huge Jo Malone fan. I own so many bottles, its crazy! Next to Nectarine Blossom and Honey, this one is the next best one in my opinion! Hope everyone has a fantastic “hump day”!
Those two are on the top of my list too! Red roses is up there with them for me and Pomegranate Noir is close too!
I love Red Roses, but Peony and Blush Sage is proooobably my favourite. I also love Wood Sage & Sea Salt, so maybe I can’t decide! Hah!
Peony and Blush is amazing!
My brother has given me a complex about Red Roses. He said it’s ” old lady” perfume.
Maybe I should combine it with something. Any suggestions?
I love Blackberry & Bay. I have a sample of the shower gel and I love it! Do you layer this with another cologne?
Nope. I really do need to start playing around with the different combinations . They all smell so great by themselves.
You just reminded me I have a sample of NB&H somewhere, which I picked up because you love it so much. I should dig it out for tomorrow.
Sniffing my way through my Kerosene samples. Today, the eye opening Black Vines, gee, I am not sleepy anymore! Necco wafers and Red Hots in that opening! It settles nicely into licorice with some milky fig and ivy riding a wave of soft, not treacly, vanilla. I think all these perfumes are fascinating, strange and beautiful. I particularly like Dirty Flower Factory, a white floral like no other! Continuing in the Christmas tradition at my house, my husband gives me a bottle of niche every year as a gift, I just have to pick one!
I’d take a bottle of Black Vines!
Me too! I love to wear that one when I’m by myself.
Thanks for the reminder that my Kerosene samples have been neglected. I decided Black Vines was perfect for this dreary day with fix-it folks in my house. Such a weird scent. On me it morphs between a candy melange and citrus rind but it certainly perks me up! Goes well with the cardboard boxes and newspaper thing I have going here in the kitchen.
Wearing Tom Ford’s Plum Japonaise today.
I actually quite like the Néroli & Orchidée from the La Collection de Grasse!
I just received my Viktoria Minya samples in the mail today! But I was already scented so I am saving them for some proper sampling 😉
I like Neroli & Orchidee too! I actually just gave my MIL some store samples since she liked it on my wrist as well. AND I’m TOTALLY jealous about your Viktoria Minya samples. 🙂
I can’t stop staring at the tiny vials too. Calling up all my self-control not to pop them open until tomorrow!
L’Artisan Timbuktu is my SOTD
And you smell great!
Diptyque’s Do Son is an oldie but an absolute gorgeous goody and that’s what I’m wearing today. I’ll never not be in love with this scent.
Are you wearing the EdT or EdP? I haven’t tried the EdT on skin, but I absolutely ADORE the EdP. *swoooon* 🙂
I was wearing the EDP! (I’ve actually since had a shower and I’m now wearing Serge Lutens Chergui! ha!) The EDT actually has wonderful longevity, as well!
After being rather “meh” about Opus vi yesterday morning, midway through the day I realized I smelled something gorgeous and it was coming from me. So I’m wearing it again today, paying attention more to the notes now and unfortunately the opening is still very “meh”. Indolic and rather powdery, which is fine, but…. meh. Waiting for the lovely incense and amber to kick in.
Today I’m giving Histoires de Parfums – Moulin Rouge another go. I think I like it more this time than last time – but probably not love. We shall see how it evolves.
I think this one is very nice. I use it, but I find enjoy it more when I don’t overspray. It can be heavy.
Bright sunshine and warmer temps than we’ve had in awhile make it feel like spring is right around the corner. Winter scents don’t fit today. So, inspired by Robin’s choice and the blackberry others chose, I’m wearing my favorite of Lox’s de Grasse Collection, Magnolia & Mure.
Today it’s Coromandel. And, wow! I think this might be my gateway drug to Chanel fragrance!!!! Sniffing it in the bottle, I wasn’t even sure I’d bother trying it (got a free sample from a generous NST-er, THANK YOU). But decided to be brave. After starting as a strong patchouli, then going quickly to the toned-down-for-super-rich-people version of Angel, it has now mellowed after a couple of hours. Still going strong, but a little quieter, all the edges have rounded out. It’s lovely. I’m shocked. Very happy too.
Coromandel is gorgeous 🙂
It’s the only sorta Angel-ish type scent I can tolerate.
I had that thought when I found and fell in love with Coromandel, but was deeply disappointed in everything else I’ve tried from the line. Some are nice but sooo fleeting.
I agree on the fleeting. 28 La Pausa is like heaven washing over me, but then it disappears after a few hours, breaking my heart. I might still buy it, and just prepare for the bottle to run dry too soon.
Agreed. However, I did splurge and buy a bottle of Cuir de Russie. I love it too much and had to have it.
Cuir de Russie is gorgeous!!
Yes – Coromandel is Angel-ish. Definitely in the family. It is the longest lasting of all the Les Exclusifs. If you are looking for a smell-alike until you get a bottle of Coromandel, I think that the Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights is a dead ringer for it.
I love Coromandel. Surprising because I am often repelled by sweet gourmand scents, but for some reason this one really works. Also my husband thinks it smells like double bubble LOL.
My fiance had the same reaction!
I’m home today with a cold (one of my boys is also sick and missing school), and wanted something warm, rich and sweet so went with my Hermes Elixir des Merveilles sample. I like it! I smell mostly chocolate and bitter orange (lucky my nose is still working, though I do have a sore throat and slight fever). Maybe FB or at least decant worthy. The original Merveilles is already on my wish list, and I like the Amber one too. Nice family of perfumes!
Uh oh, get better soon!
Feel better soon! The Elixir is. a favorite of mine but I get more orange biscuit than I do any chocolate. I agree, a wonderful family of perfumes, I would like to have them all.
I had a small sample of the original Merveilles, which I quickly used up this summer. Love. It feels like something that develops from the inside, rather than something external that is applied. I’ve tried the Amber one a few times, and while I really like it, I don’t get the same feeling of it being inherent, if only temporarily. If that makes sense.
I am in Yosh Ginger Ciao today. I find winter to be a good time to wear ginger perfumes.
I love Ginger Ciao; it’s perfect for chasing away winter chills. You smell great, Mary Carol!
Today, I am trying my mini of Perles de Lalique. I came into work after a week off and there it was, along with Youth Dew Amber Nude. i really like the combination of rose and patchouli, but I think I need a spray bottle, rather than a splash mini. The sillage seems to be a little minimal, and I like my scents to be a little more out there. Thanks to the commenter who recommended this one as another rose to try. I had never heard of it, and even with the minimal sillage I think that it is FB worthy. I also just want to say how much reading NST and the many comments that are generated have helped in my exploration of fragrance. Thank you all for being such a great and helping community.
Do you have any decanting supplies? Maybe get an inexpensive plastic or glass atomizer to try spraying. Accessories for Fragrance (ebay seller) is a good place to start as you don’t have to buy a ton – you can just get 1 or 2.
You smell great! I have a full bottle after trying out a dabber sample and the sillage is much bigger with the spray, for sure. Full-size bottles seem to abound at the discount retailers, if you want an instigator 😉 I worried for a bit that this was too similar to Marni, but I’m glad I own both 🙂
How would you compare this to Marnie?
PeiscillaE, have you tried Rose Cut (Rose and Patchouli)?
I’ve got a bottle of the Narcisse et Vanille lotion and love to wear it either on it’s own or layered with Vanille Tonka. I don’t think I’ve smelled all the Grasse collection scents but from what I’ve smelled Narcisse is my favourite.
I’m wearing Sacrebleu by PdN. Very comfy on a cold and grey day.
Sacrebleu is one of the best scents EVER
Masque’s new Russian Tea adorns my wrist this morning and I highly recommend it.
I want to try this. Is it really rich? Living in SoCal, I am learning that I should really understand that cold weather fragrances are for cold weather …
If you stay here for a while, a day with a high of 70F will be cold weather.
SOTD is MFK Cologne pour le Soir which is quite nice but I don’t think I need a FB. Got a good sized spritz sample from a fumie friend in a swap and I think it’s just the right size 🙂
Cologne pour le Soir is a great scent, weirdly feral musky AND cozy cuddly in turns. It is fascinating. I wish it came in a smaller bottle. You smell mahvelous 😀
SOTD: Burberry Brit Rhythm Burberry for men
I just ordered that one for the hubband. He put it on his Christmas list. I honestly don’t know what it smells like.
Poodle – your husband likes scent enough to put it on a list? Amazing! I was pretty much instructed by my partner not to buy him scent. He sometimes wears the few I gave him once upon a time for me…
Today is 31, rue Cambon, from a recently acquired sample. But I could still smell yesterday’s Bottega Veneta on my wrists, and I’m not sure how much that is shifting this to a warmer scent.
31RC goes to the lovely ambery base on me fairly quickly, within 2.5-3 hours. I think it’s quite warm on its own… maybe it’s the BV, and maybe not.
Today I’m waffling a bit. Started out with a spritz of Calvin Klein Reveal and will probably be snuffing it out with something incense-y like Opus IV.
Trying to stay warm with MPG Ambre Precieux today. It’s freezing here and I have to use the rented porta-potty because the tile man removed the only toilet. The new toilet should be installed this evening but in the meantime…
Yikes! Hope the toilet situ gets resolved ASAP!
In the meantime, you smell fab!
Ugh! Hope they install the toilet on time.
Wearing L’Artisan Vanilia today from a long neglected sample. Light and a little spicy, this is a nice one. Not sure why I never tried it before now.
serge lutens bois et musc for the lovely rain today!
Went for 3 sprays (plus a half spray) of Bvlgari Black this morning. How is that rubber scent so comforting? I would have never guessed.
More than my usual work scent ration, but, as they say, it is what it is!
Black always makes me think of bicycle tires. Or new sneakers, when I was a kid. I tend to find it comforting too.
Scent twins! I gassed myself with 7 sprays from a 10 mL atomizer. The 7 sprays is probably the equivalent of 4 sprays from the FB. I love it!
Wearing L’heure de Nuit today. For a flanker, I really do love it. L’heure Bleue was just too much powder today.
Went with Coco today.
Me too! It was just a Coco kind of day. We smell great!!
Indeed we do!
My SOTD is Guerlain Bois d’Armenie, I don’t own the full bottle and trying to decide if it is FB worthy, I love it so far.
I just fell over this one. It is just about perfect. I only wish it had a tiny bit more sillage. It has remarkable lasting power on me though, esp. if I get some in my hair. Very gorgeous.
Ah, I am deeply tempted by this one, too. We should start a split.
I haven’t tried this one yet, but it sound like something I’d like. I’d definitely be into a split.
I will be in for a split too
Bois d’Armenie smelled like insect repellant on me when I tested it in the store, but my coat smelled like heaven for weeks after.
This may be the Dior that I finally buy. I love this milk and honey and incense thing that Annick Menardo has made. Again, the bottle is really huge. I agree a split would be a great idea. I’ve burned through a 5mL and and most of an 8mL decant. By my rules, I can buy FB now 😀 (It’s on the long list)
Ananas Fizz. I really enjoy its bitterness, which balances the entire thing. Fun!
Good stuff. I hope that they re-issue it.
They already did! Look:

🙂
Passage d’Enfer today, because I had an appointment this morning and thought it would be polite to wear something quiet. Unfortunately, because I used my sample vial instead of the spray bottle, it’s basically gone. I may need to go find something at the mall to sample because I feel unfinished without fragrance.
I am wearing Givenchy Oblique Rewind, which is very nice sweet woody cherry tobacco scent, but it is maybe a hair too rich for the office.
This sounds interesting!
Making a note.
I’m wearing VCA Bois d’Iris from the last nst swap fest all by myself in the studio today. But what I really want to do is shop for vintage clothing. I just saw a documentary called “Advanced Fashion” on Netflix last night. it’s about a group of older ladies in New York who dress themselves in astonishing and beautifully eccentric clothing, hats, jewellery, gloves, the whole nine yards. Very uplifting and creatively inspiring.
I didn’t get any perfumes on cyber Monday after all. I recognised I was having a deal induced psychotic perfume spasm and not thinking straight. So I turned off the computer.
Ugh, I had a panic mode must-get-now reaction after work and before I went out for the night. I bought Journey Woman and Antonio Alessandria Nuit Rouge. (And then I was doubly bad and bought Cuir de Russie last night – just because.)
Oh Good for you that you were able to decide on some beautiful perfumes. Especially wonderful you got Cuir de Russie Enjoy them!
I thought about it, too, but decided that I REALLY needed other stuff more than I needed more perfume. Sigh.
Yup me too. But I appeased my inner fume ghoul by ordering a discounted jar of vanilla patchouli lavender salt scrub and matching soap from Sabon last night. $31 is a lot less guilt provoking than the $150 -$200 I was about to lay out for a discounted Amouage. Which I’m also regretting and very relieved I didn’t buy… GAK!
The Netflix movie is called Advanced Style.
This: ‘a deal induced psychotic perfume spasm ‘ is how I end up buying all my perfume!
Hahaha! Well I gave in to the spasm tonight after writing confessional posts here. First I paid all the bills and then ordered a 100 ml bottle of Amouage Lyric Woman, g-d help me.
If u paid bills 1st it doesn’t qualify! Enjoy 🙂
I was under a perfume-buying embargo until I finished my Christmas shopping, which I did Sunday. Luckily (or unluckily) I was flat broke on Monday, so didn’t even look at any deals. No agonizing, at least.
Sajini, I should have turned off the computer as well – bought things I really didn’t need due to coupon deals. Oh well!
I am wearing Heeley Cardinal on this lovely rainy misty day in San Diego.
You smell great! The weather sounds just right for Cardinal!
Another San Diegan! Hi there!
I hope you love what you got regardless. Perfume is not about practical need anyway. But as a person raised by depression era parents ( speaking for myself here) I always have some sort of buyers remorse about what I consider “non essential” purchases which applies to everything that is not food or shelter…
I absolutely love Heeley Cardinal. You smell sublime!
Samples arrived today, so I’m wearing Musc Ravageur. Might as well get addicted to the current FM scents right before selling the company results in changed formulas, right? 😀 I only went for a 2ml spray but I might go back for a 5 or 8ml spray if there’s a good sale on samples. The prices seem craaaazy till I think about a FB and what I would have to pay to have it shipped to Canada.
I am trying to narrow my focus on samples so I can spring for 2 or 5ml sizes (without any real intention of buying FBs unless there is true love) rather than the smaller dabber sizes. I have definitely hit the point where I have so many full bottles I’m getting nervous about them turning before I can wear them very often.
I get my FM samples from HR, but they are a little difficult sometimes.
My SOTD is Golden Cattleya by Olympic Orchids.
I liked the narcissus and vanilla combination in Vanille & Narcisse, but unfortunately for me, it is really heavy on the amber note from L’Occitane’s pomander, which I don’t like 🙁
Golden Cattleya was SUPER sweet on me. I usually have pretty good tolerance for “sweet’ in terms of florals, but this one is just Too Much. Oh well. Ballets Rouges is terrific.
The first 10 minutes are super sweet on me, but then the sweetness backs way off. I LOVE those first 10 minutes, but I would not be able to take it if the super sweetness lasted much longer.
I also love the intense sweetness of the first 10 minutes of Bubblegum Chic, but I am glad that it doesn’t last much longer.
Memoir Woman body lotion today. Loving it.
Also loving that image, Robin – didn’t see a title for it, but it’s gorgeous.
It’s just borrowed from the L’Occitane website, or their FB page, can’t remember which.
Wearing Tauer PHI Rose de Kandahar for the first time, lovely stuff, I can’t stop sniffing my wrist 🙂
Scent twin! I’m loving it too, I’m so happy I have it now. We smell terrific!
I had Womanity on this morning but now I’m trying Eau Lente by Diptyque. Call me crazy but this one is like a spicy Old Spice on steroids. Definitely stronger and a bit less floral than Old Spice.
Mmmm, Old Spice.
It could just be my nose today but I think Eau Lente has some similarities.
I have been tempted by the Womanity travel-sprays often available at the online discounters. Do you like it? Probably pretty risky for a blind-buy.
Womanity is great if you like Mugler perfumes. Otherwise I’d say sample first. I could send you one if you’d like.
How crazy is it that I have a sample and have tried Eau Lente, but have never had Womanity on skin? I’m shaking my head at my perfume silliness. I really need to pop in a department store and try it. TM fragrances are not boring, and Womanity has generated some polarizing reactions. Sounds fun, and as an added bonus, if I love it, it’s not ridiculously priced. Hmmmm. A perfume pilgrimage for the weekend is born. Thanks!
I hated it at first. Lol. Now I love it.
SSS Incense Pure. Smoky incense goodness, great for a chilly rainy day here in the SF Bay Area. The scent is very linear on me but it sure is a nice line….
Great for bringing out the incense note in other perfumes, too.
I am wearing EL’s Modern Muse today (work friendly).
L’eau d’Hiver today, on a beyond stressful day at work. I worked at my desk until 9pm, drove home and now have more to do. Bleargh. I feel Esprit du Tigre coming on for tomorrow–it’s a pick me up and comfort scent all in one. Be well!
SOTD is Agent Provocateur L’Agent for the second day in a row. I ran out of my usual lotion (Shea Moisture Argan & Shea Frankincense & Myrrh) and the store was also out, so I got their Coconut & Hibiscus instead, thinking, I like coconut, and our hibiscus doesn’t have much smell. I’d recommend the SM C&H to anyone looking for a fruity-floral lotion. It’s too much for me, but the L’Agent holds its own against it, with its smoky incense, without actually clashing. L’Agent would have been a good choice for last Friday, too–it’s about $30 at the discounters. I may just need to read last Friday’s post now, instead of working my way back to it.
Forgot to add, I always like the artwork for these posts–it always gets me to click to see what perfume you’re wearing, Robin, even when I don’t have time to read the whole comment thread.
Well thank you, although I can’t take credit for any of it!
