MiN New York Scent Stories

Earlier this year, niche retailer MiN New York launched Scent Stories, a collection of eleven "abstract, yet wearable Eau de Parfums". We announced Moon Dust already; descriptions of the other ten fragrances are below.

Dune Road ~ "Summer walks. Crisp ocean breeze. Foamy Sand. Whispers of herbs, wildflowers & sea grass from a distance. Ethereal. Captivating. Hazy pleasures. Algae, grass, vetiver, and driftwood kiss the skin with sea salt, air, and musk."

The Botanist ~ "A historian of nature with a thoughtful green thumb. All day, everyday... dirt, petals, and roots. A perfume of fruits and flowers with an earthy finish. A luscious basket of apples, bergamot, and grapefruit reveal a bouquet of peonies, roses, lily of the valley, grounded by resins of cypress, vetiver, musk, and ambergris. Pure genius."

Shaman ~ "Otherworldly. Mystical time travelers. Guardians of sacred spirits. Clairvoyant, infinite, and profound. A smoky patchouli with violet leaves and incense."

Momento ~ A perfume of heritage, the scent evokes flashbacks of faded memories. The scent of lost treasures, like a box of old photographs or love letters... A visit to a familiar place from your childhood. This is the scent of love and happiness. Timeless favorites. All good things. Bergamot, lemon, aldehydes, tarragon, absinth, lavender, carnation, rose, jasmine, verbena on gaiac wood, oppoponax, and patchouli."

Barrel ~ "Evident in the first sniff, a slight floral opening gives way to bold, beautiful notes that we tastein full-bodied dark spirits and wine. Peaty, smoky, smooth, and earthy, this is the scent of the selfless vessel that rest in halcyon, incubating the finest spirits throughout the years. A complex cocktail of spirits, spices, dirt, tannin, and woods: absinth, coriander, pink pepper, rum, myrrh, orange blossom, tuberose, oak, oak moss, leather, vanilla, patchouli, and vetiver."

Magic Circus ~ "Turn of the century, a carnival travels at dusk. A scrumptious gourmand perfume. A splendid wonder swirling in enchantment. Candied nuts, cotton candy, caramel, sprinkled with pink peppercorns, bergamot, labdanum, geranium, patchouli, and woodchips."

Old School Bench ~ "A noir memory of young artists etching in school. Pencil shavings, charcoal on paper, blackboards, and vintage desks. Introspection. Creation with incredible focus... souls poured onto canvas. A nostalgic study composed of bergamot, angelica root, wood wax, geranium, rum, chocolate, cedar wood, vanilla, patchouli, and vetiver roots."

Long Board ~ "Salty Surf. Warm Sun on bare skin. Sea birds sing as the Ocean Whispers. Balmy, Suspended moments of storytelling and Laughter with friends. A splash of orange blossom reveals salty marine notes, embraced by tropical coconuts and solar cream. An earthy vetiver heart melts into a base of vanilla and amber. Pure Bliss."

Dahab ~ "DAHAB means "time goes", where the desert meets the sea and stars. Oud burns in the distance, mingled with warm spicy air. A smooth nargileh (hookah). Young men dive under the stars into the desert night. Adventurous, fearless spiritual explorers. Energetic, exotic, nomadic. Seekers of life and truth. Wild & free. Salty aquatic notes mingled with oud, incense, exotic dry woods and spics (saffron, pepper, cumin, and nutmeg) from the spice market nearby."

Onsen ~ Inspired by Japanese Volcanic Hot Springs, ONSEN evokes communion with nature. Mystical, powerful, and spiritual. Cleansing, healing, and introspective. Minimal, ritualistic, and transcendent. Absinth, bergamot, aromatics on hinoki, pine needles, cypress, vetiver roots, oak moss, ambergris, mineral, sulfur, and steam."

The MiN New York Scent Stories fragrances are $240 each for 75 ml Eau de Parfum.

I wish niche lines would get the memo that 75ml is too large of a size. It makes sense for designer fragrances and fragrances that cater to those who own maybe 2 or 3 bottles, but most niche buyers have dozens of bottles, and probably thrice that much in decants/splits, and who knows how many samples. 75ml is overkill.

I think MiN caters to rich New Yorkers not typical perfumistas but yeah…I wish this too.

Offhand cannot think of a brand that caters to perfumistas! There must be one but can’t think of it.

If we are speaking of bottle size, i would have to say Sonoma Scent Studio, as the largest size is ~30ml.
